my process for creating my COD oc (that no one asked for)
step one: make a woman in cyberpunk 2077 because you are nerdy like that
step two: research US Army dress and appearance policies; OC doesn't have tats on her neck + minimal makeup + nude nail polish when she wears it
step three: research overseas US military bases
step four: do a shit ton of research on knives for no reason
step five: profit
notes/other random things I will end up rambling about hurrah
obviously natural hair colors only, "mixing" hairstyles is allowed due to unrealistic restrictions put on WoC
US army recently relaxed its appearance policies: less restriction on tattoos, males can wear clear nail polish, less regulation of hair length (males are still very restricted in comparison to the women's new guidelines), still length regulation on ponytails/braids
this all varies from branch to branch, my OC was in the Army so that's where I focused my research
US specops, namely Delta Force, are less restricted in order to blend into civilian environments (Delta Force is still currently men-only afaik)
not much is known about US specops due to secrecy and classification; there are certain groups that are rarely (if ever) acknowledged by the govt (yay for plausible deniability /s). these groups are commanded by JSOC and are known as special mission units (known units are from the Army, AF, and Navy). Delta Force (army) and SEAL Team 6/DEVGRU (Navy) are known to not allow women.
Delta Force is based off of the SAS and was founded by a U.S. soldier deployed to the SAS (notable for CoD lore). a detachment of the Rangers is also believed to be under JSOC (due to highly specialized reconnaissance skills)
apparently lots of SMU operators are recruited from the Green Berets/Army Special Forces and the 75th Ranger Regiment (also army/light infantry.) women are allowed into both, but the first woman to graduate any specops course did so in 2017
i do not understand the connection/hierarchy of different specops groups, but I think it goes from Green Berets & Rangers, to the CIA SOGs, to units under JSOC at the top
both JSOC and the CIA prefer to recruit from GBs and Rangers as opposed to older soldiers due to longevity of careers and being able to teach new recruits
apparently many operators in the CIA SOG are from Delta Force though
today i actually did research on the practicality of butterfly knives/balisongs because all i knew about them were that they were the cool "flippy knives" in valorant; i wanted my OC to use one too
they are very multipurpose so good to know ๐Ÿ‘
generally this is a bunch of surface level knowledge cus i cba to do more, but i wanted her to not be heavily inaccurate
aka a shit ton of this is from fucking Wikipedia
so ya if this ever sees the light of day, take it with a grain of salt and do some research too
kieran out ๐Ÿ˜Ž
