yall didn't know me back then but 2020-2022 i only wrote smut all day every day on this blog. like it took me so so long to get comfy writing fluff or selfshipping or anything like that and even now i've only been writing fluff bc i'm scared of like diving into my emotions so harshly in more emotional fics. which is to say like i always say: growth is happening all the time.

i just scrolled through my blog and i realised i have only two modes: weird pseudo-philosophical rambling. and absolutely unhinged yelling. AND I TELL YOUUUU IT'S SO FUNNYYYYYYY because i spent so long trying to curate my voice and sound like a normal, fun, easy to approach person back when i first made this blog!

then again it's been 3.5 years so i guess my voice changed naturally 🤨 i'm not smart enough for this 😮‍💨

found this stuck in my drafts and i don't completely remember why, but i think at some point i was going to add or expand on a few things that are important to keep in mind. so i'm gonna try to replicate what i believe i planned on saying.

first is, regarding canon characters and westworld duplicates specifically - just because i may ship romantically with one version of a character or i may like a ship in the context of canon chemistry existing, it does not mean that my end goal is to ship romance with anyone and everyone who writes that same character. i'm really big on treating every portrayal as individuals that are every bit as unique as the muns behind them.

i'm never going to try to automatically assume romance or force a ship/chemistry that doesn't exist between me and my rp partner solely for the sake of shipping. i am probably not going to even be thinking ABOUT shipping very much unless it is something a partner tells me they would be interested in. most everything else i said in the original post still stands.

second point is very similar to the above, but replace 'canons' with 'ocs' and 'duplicate muses' with 'ocs using the same faceclaim' and then that's my stance on shipping with ocs. just because i may ship with some ocs does not mean that i am following every oc with an expectation of shipping with them.

so in terms of canon connections, i am planning on writing full metas about caleb and maeve and also caleb and dolores but for right now i wanna say just a lil bit about how i interpret their relationships and what it means on this blog

with caleb and dolores, i think that their bond is completely platonic. they're more like a brother/sister-in-arms duo to me and they pretty much always have been, but i will acknowledge that they do have all the potential for a good romance in the right circumstances. personally if i ever were to write something in that direction i would be extremely picky about who i'm shipping with and a lot of that is because i have some...residual hangups...from the westworld fandom's hayday.

i'm a lot less picky on the topic of caleb and maeve which i've always found a sense of irony in?? because i literally read an interview once and in it the writers and the actors were like 'oh they're just good friends' and i was like '...are you sure about that??' but just like everything else, the base of this relationship, whether it turns romantic or not, is built on a deeply intimate comradery between the two.

COVID still rages, and the Biden administration isn’t helping - Published Jan 6, 2024

Readers who bristled at my assertion roughly a year ago — when the term “post-pandemic” was used a lot more cautiously than it is now — that we should still be masking really won’t like this: We should still be wearing masks indoors, because the COVID-19 pandemic still rages. And, as a physician writing on The Times’ op-ed page makes clear, the Biden administration isn’t helping.

The numbers of new infections and hospital admissions are sobering: Wastewater data indicate that the JN.1 variant of COVID-19 is infecting about 2 million Americans every day, making this surge second in prevalence only to the Omicron wave that hit in 2021 and 2022. Thanks to vaccines, the Omicron peak was less deadly than the wave that hit in late 2020 and early 2021, when mask mandates and social distancing were still our primary weapons against COVID-19 and inoculation was only beginning.

Even though the Omicron wave for most people marks the beginning of the “living with this disease” phase of COVID — where we forgo mitigation and accept the risks of infection by a survivable virus — large groups of people fared worse than ever. You know who did really poorly? Cancer patients, who died at a higher rate than during any previous surge. With compromised immune systems, they benefit more from mitigation measures such as masking than vaccination, but by the time Omicron rolled around many of us had grown tired of covering our faces and keeping our distance.

For most people, the price of an Omicron infection was mild illness and possibly long COVID; for cancer patients, it was a higher likelihood of dying.

As for long COVID — when crippling symptoms persist for months or even years after infection — it’s hard to quantify the price to society from millions of people walking around with brain fog and fatigue for interminable periods, not to mention the increased risk of heart disease and stroke long after infection. Deciding to live with COVID doesn’t mean any of this goes away, if by “living with COVID” you mean refusing to wear a high-quality mask.

Writing on our op-ed page, Dr. Eric J. Topol — whose work communicating the risks of unfettered virus circulation I consider indispensable — reminds us of the damage this JN.1 surge does to people without fully functioning immune systems, and the need of the government to continue developing vaccines that deliver better protection from COVID variants. He ends his piece, appropriately, by criticizing the Biden administration’s complacency:

“It’s crickets from the White House on COVID now, with no messaging on getting the updated booster or masking. The Biden administration has done far too little to accelerate research on effective treatments for long COVID.

“This passivity reinforces the illusion that the pandemic is behind us when it’s actually raging. And this season will be followed by a more quiescent period, which will, once again, lull us into thinking the pandemic is over. But there is no getting over it until we recognize reality and double down on the research that will allow us to block infections and virus spread, and achieve lasting, variant-proof immunity.”

As we head towards this year's election, remember just how much pain and suffering Biden's inaction on covid has caused and continues to cause. There are several candidates running whose covid policy is light years away from Biden's. Vote for what you believe in, not out of fear. Do everything you can to make a better future instead of stifling better for maybe perhaps kinda not as bad (for you personally based on vibes).

Avalanches, icy explosions and dunes: NASA is tracking New Year on Mars

Instead of a winter wonderland, the Red Planet's northern hemisphere goes through an active—even explosive—spring thaw. While New Year's Eve is around the corner here on Earth, Mars scientists are ahead of the game: The Red Planet completed a trip around the sun on Nov. 12, 2024, prompting a few researchers to raise a toast.

But the Martian year, which is 687 Earth days, ends in a very different way in the planet's northern hemisphere than it does in Earth's northern hemisphere: While winter's kicking in here, spring is starting there. That means temperatures are rising and ice is thinning, leading to frost avalanches crashing down cliffsides, carbon dioxide gas exploding from the ground, and powerful winds helping reshape the north pole.

"Springtime on Earth has lots of trickling as water ice gradually melts. But on Mars, everything happens with a bang," said Serina Diniega, who studies planetary surfaces at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

Mars' wispy atmosphere doesn't allow liquids to pool on the surface, like on Earth. Instead of melting, ice sublimates, turning directly into a gas. The sudden transition in spring means a lot of violent changes as both water ice and carbon dioxide ice—dry ice, which is much more plentiful on Mars than frozen water—weaken and break.

"You get lots of cracks and explosions instead of melting," Diniega said. "I imagine it gets really noisy."

Using the cameras and other sensors aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), which launched in 2005, scientists study all this activity to improve their understanding of the forces shaping the dynamic Martian surface. Here's some of what they track.

Frost avalanches

In 2015, MRO's High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera captured a 66-foot-wide (20-meter-wide) chunk of carbon dioxide frost in freefall. Chance observations like this are reminders of just how different Mars is from Earth, Diniega said, especially in springtime, when these surface changes are most noticeable.

"We're lucky we've had a spacecraft like MRO observing Mars for as long as it has," Diniega said. "Watching for almost 20 years has let us catch dramatic moments like these avalanches."

Gas geysers

Diniega has relied on HiRISE to study another quirk of Martian springtime: gas geysers that blast out of the surface, throwing out dark fans of sand and dust. These explosive jets form due to energetic sublimation of carbon dioxide ice. As sunlight shines through the ice, its bottom layers turn to gas, building pressure until it bursts into the air, creating those dark fans of material.

But to see the best examples of the newest fans, researchers will have to wait until December 2025, when spring starts in the southern hemisphere. There, the fans are bigger and more clearly defined.

Spiders

Another difference between ice-related action in the two hemispheres: Once all the ice around some northern geysers has sublimated in summer, what's left behind in the dirt are scour marks that, from space, look like giant spider legs. Researchers recently re-created this process in a JPL lab.

Powerful winds

For Isaac Smith of Toronto's York University, one of the most fascinating subjects in springtime is the Texas-size ice cap at Mars' north pole. Etched into the icy dome are swirling troughs, revealing traces of the red surface below. The effect is like a swirl of milk in a café latte.

"These things are enormous," Smith said, noting that some are a long as California. "You can find similar troughs in Antarctica but nothing at this scale."

Fast, warm wind has carved the spiral shapes over eons, and the troughs act as channels for springtime wind gusts that become more powerful as ice at the north pole starts to thaw. Just like the Santa Ana winds in Southern California or the Chinook winds in the Rocky Mountains, these gusts pick up speed and temperature as they ride down the troughs—what's called an adiabatic process.

Wandering dunes

The winds that carve the north pole's troughs also reshape Mars' sand dunes, causing sand to pile up on one side while removing sand from the other side. Over time, the process causes dunes to migrate, just as it does with dunes on Earth.

This past September, Smith coauthored a paper detailing how carbon dioxide frost settles on top of polar sand dunes during winter, freezing them in place. When the frost all thaws away in the spring, the dunes begin migrating again.

Each northern spring is a little different, with variations leading to ice sublimating faster or slower, controlling the pace of all these phenomena on the surface. And these strange phenomena are just part of the seasonal changes on Mars: the southern hemisphere has its own unique activity.

what do you think are good resources for someone who wants to get into Elf Religion?

there's quite a lot floating around out there, luckily! most of the effort comes in hunting it down and winnowing out what works best for you! there's also lots and lots of mixed or multi-source elf stuff out there, i just work primarily with tolkien sourced stuff. i can't comment much on other sources, so what i list here will be tolkien based or tolkien adjacent at the least! reading the fullness of the legendarium, not just the silm but also HoME and other texts, will also help you find what feels right.

so before we get to the long stuff, i really recommend you go through t-e/wal's website first and look at the statement of faith, valar page, and loa page. that's a pretty good summary of the most basic parts as far as belief goes. practice is something you can make unique to you! t-e/wal has a very modern-festival-paganism vibe to their rituals. i-v is doing modern western 'shamanism' (quotes bc that is a stolen name and i don't condone its use, but the alternative 'imaginal gnosis' is unwieldy and not commonly used).

if you already have your own favorite magical practices, you could find ways to adapt them to the loa and the valar! have fun with it! some of us do lots of magic, some of us mostly do worship. it can be as complicated or as simple as you want. this list comes from a collection i have been working on since 2022 and lists both orgs and individuals posting their own experiences.

T-e or wal : a shortening for Tie Eldalieva which changed its name to Way of Arda's Lore in 2024, which is a religious organization based in the usa for tolkien religionists. Hi! Great question! This will be a long post, so please only read if you have the time to read it.

For context, I joined Tumblr as @/aisabts and did readings continuously for bts tarot. But it felt unfulfilling after a bit and the community was overwhelmingly full of negativity so I decided to leave. I made a lot of great friends on Tumblr both readers and nonreaders alike, so I contacted them separately on a non-tarot account, and they encouraged me to come back as a reader. I thought why not after some time and came back some time in 2022 or 2023 (can not remember).

I started doing readings again as @/aisanakismet then settled down to @/aisaariel. In case anyone was wondering, "Kismet" because it's an Arabic/Persian/Turkish term for fate and destiny. I was hoping my blog would be a place where a lot of people can interact and heal with one another. I also wanted to offer guidance to those who wanted to reach out and chat with me. "Ariel" from The Little Mermaid because I was thinking about changing my username once and for all and had "Under the Sea" play in my head a bunch. I also liked how Ariel got her voice back from Ursula in the end. Lots and lots of powerful symbolism that I loved.

Truly, so many different things happened during 2023 and 2024 that I would have never expected, and I was almost never logged in to Tumblr except a couple times I visited to chat with friends, do a couple readings here and there, and catch up on what was going on in the Tumblr community. I felt there was really no point in keeping the blog going because I would not have been able to consistently fulfill my responsibilities as a reader.

I deleted my blog and I lingered. I saw some anons mentioning me and how they were upset about how I left and I never thought that anyone would necessarily care or notice! The goal was to quietly delete my blog. At that point, a lot of my long-time tarot friends were inactive or deleting their blogs too so I no longer felt called to stay either. I came back and even announced myself in bts tarot since a lot of you all found me through bts tarot because I thought it would be nice to still continue aisaariel but do general readings for you anons specifically rather than any kpop readings.

But, alas, I'm sad to say that I think it's really time for me to go. I deleted @/aisaariel for a reason and I do not think I should start this blog only to not be able to commit to it and possibly delete it again in the future after doing readings.

Thank you to all of you all that reached out to me with such warm welcomes and I am really sorry that I am letting some of you down by leaving again. Whether you liked me or not, were rude to me or not, thought/think I'm just seeking attention with this blog/post or not, I will really miss every single one of you. You all are really really really special people who deserve lots of love, happiness, and blessings in this world. I cannot imagine how my life would have been without interacting with you lovely life fighters and warriors! (This is a compliment. I was always so impressed by how you all were so resilient no matter what happened in your lives.) Please know that any and all "Aisa" readings were done solely through the guidance of my tarot cards, intuition (checked so many times to make sure it was not my personal bias or opinion affecting the reading), and spiritual guides. All readings were completely authentic and each post was a virtual manifestation of my love, time, energy, and efforts.

If I ever hurt anyone's feelings throughout my time here, please know that I did not intend on that at all. I have always genuinely wanted to have a good time here with everyone and to share and stand for love and positivity. I can confidently swear that I have never partaken in any form of online bullying, hating, or fighting. Whenever/If I had an issue with someone, I specifically reached out via Tumblr messages to talk about it, not harass or attack someone. I do not know if there was/is anyone (hopefully not), but if someone said/says I partook in any form of "hatred" or "drama" for whatever reason, please know that they are lying and spreading false rumors about me.

I trust that above all, I Aisa am known and remembered for my integrity and credibility as a tarot reader and my love for the readings I have done in this tarot community. From today and on, there will be no return of Aisa (me) as a tarot reader in the community ever again. I will only linger and see what is going on in the community from time to time whenever life allows me to do so.

So we can add Gatchaman (not Battle of the Planets, Gatchaman) to 2024's ongoing comic theme of "old license gets new comic after years of inactivity and/or a rut", which in Gatchaman's case was a financial flop and poorly reviewed 2012 live-action movie, and the very divisive Gatchaman Crowds, which even fans of the show felt fell off in the second and final season. And I say that as a fan of the series (even have the Blu-Ray boxset with the Alex Ross box art)

It joins the Energon Universe and its massive success, the hodgepodge that is the Nacelleverse (even if just about everyone is there for the Biker Mice from Mars and nothing else), a very well-reviewed first issue of a Space Ghost revival on the 30th anniversary of Coast to Coast which aims to make him a serious character again, a Thundercats comic fresh off the disaster that was Thundercats Roar, a Johnny Quest comic following the end of the seminal deconstruction/parody of Quest (and Silver/Bronze Age superheroes) that was The Venture Brothers, and probably some others I missed.

Although again, this 2024 of comic revivals, either on their own or before announcements of bigger projects (Thundercats currently has a movie in pre-production from the Godzilla X Kong director Adam Wingard who described it as a dream project) has me once again wondering why Voltron has had nothing announced since the bidding war for the movie rights back in 2022. It's the franchise's 40th anniversary, and while Legendary Defender was a flop and a failure and had an insane fanbase, was it really as bad as Thundercats Roar? I mean Zaslav wrote that thing off for taxes.

I guess the question at the end of the day is - How badly did Legendary Defender screw this franchise over that even as Johnny Quest, a punching bag at Warner for years, gets a new comic, the most Voltron gets for its 40th anniversary, when either under the auspices of Universal (who still have leased distribution rights for the original series last I checked) or Amazon MGM (who are reported to have the movie rights) are some re-releases of old Playmates toys and a $700 figure of the VLD robot which no one will buy because fans of VLD don't care about the robot. I think it's a damning indictment of how the insane fanbase damaged the brand, where any sort of new product runs into the fear of bringing out deranged shippers and other weirdos.

WE ARE AT THE HOMESTRETCH! Approximately ~16 fanadventures stand between me and meeting my goal, and I’m feeling so good after the latter half of 2022 that I think I might just do them all tonight. Maybe. Who knows. WELCOME TO 2023, THE YEAR OF REVIVAL! Everybody’s getting back into MSPFA, Everybody’s so EXCITED about the fandom, and oh yeah, HOMESTUCK BEYOND CANON is back with a brand new team that ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF every time they post an upd8. Life’s good. Life’s going to be even better in 2024, the year I am *currently* residing in, but since we haven’t technically made it to the end of that year yet (though we are close…) I have decided to call it quits and declare the end of this project in 2023. Okay. Enough pre-ramble (emphasis on “ramble”) let’s talk about JADESTUCK.

I can only assume, at this stage, that Jadestuck is what happens when you replace every single character with Jade Harley. I can only hope this is the premise, but probably it is not.

Hey author of JADESTUCK: stop saying you think you are bad at art. I am currently looking at one of the most detailed render of a beanstalk I have ever seen, that I could never do in a million years (on page 6, btw). You can’t draw me THAT and then tell me you are bad at art. You are not bad at art, author! Believe in yourself! Jade Harley would! And I do too!

Sadly, it looks like Bec is literally Bec in this comic, so my hopes about what Jadestuck actually is are dashed to smithereens. This is an unfortunate day for me, and my hopes. But fortunately for me, there was a gag that I snickered at, so that should be worth SOMETHING at least.

The accession, the Trial, and the Crossroads on the party

After weeks of intense negotiations, our guy Sejourne, the former leader of the centrist Renew group in the European Parliament and a close ally of Macron, secured a spot for himself on the European Commission on Wednesday evening. The vote was a resounding success, with a large majority of MEPs confirming Séjourné as one of six executive vice presidents appointed by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

THE PRICE OF POWER. The S&D group’s anger at von der Leyen’s deal-making led to threats to sink the EPP’s candidate for the powerful competition and climate portfolio, Teresa Ribera. After intense back-and-forth between the Parliament's political groups, the S&D conceded to von der Leyen on Fitto in exchange for the EPP’s backing of Ribera. The EPP’s support for Ribera only came after she endured questioning by the Spanish parliament regarding her ministry’s management of the deadly flooding in Valencia and refused to commit to resigning if indicted by a court.

A BACKROOM DEAL. The deal, which paved the way for the new Commission to start work on December 1, meant that no country’s nominee was rejected — the first time that this has happened since 1999. Although touted by von der Leyen as proof of the EU’s political unity, the deal, struck behind closed doors between a select group of MEPs, has been criticised by some as a backward step for the power of the European Parliament.

A THREAT TO THE CORDON SANITAIRE? Some Renew, Green and Socialist lawmakers opposed Fitto’s confirmation, arguing that his leadership position, along with that of Séjourné, represented a breaking of the cordon sanitaire between mainstream parties and those on the far right1. The EPP’s decision to back Fitto and Séjourné has led to concerns that it will normalise relations with the far right, potentially paving the way for the future inclusion of such parties in government.

BACK HOME IN FRANCE, Séjourné’s political patron, Emmanuel Macron, is no stranger to forging alliances with those on the right. Since winning a second term as French president in 2022, Macron has been forced to rely on the support of the conservative Les Republicains (LR) party to push through his legislative agenda4. The recent appointment of LR heavyweight Michel Barnier as prime minister was seen as a sign that Macron is willing to do whatever it takes to maintain his grip on power, even if it means sacrificing some of his party's core values.

However, Barnier’s premiership has been marked by a series of political crises. A major crisis revolves around the substantial budget deficit, which reached 6.1% of GDP in 2024, significantly exceeding the initial projection of 4.4%. This issue has triggered sharp criticism of the previous governments, including that of Gabriel Attal, from the Senate and opposition parties, back in Paris...

FINANCE FURORE. As I said in my previous newsletter, the news isn't looking good for our guy Gaby. Senate report on France’s budget deficit, which paints a damning picture of the former Prime Minister’s economic stewardship, would not help his already plummeting sondage. The report, spearheaded by Les Republicains (LR), has not only put Attal in the hot seat, but also threatens to torpedo the fragile “common ground” coalition he needs to achieve his political goals.

The Senate report accuses the Attal government of “irresponsibility” and “inaction” in the face of a rapidly deteriorating fiscal situation.

Specifically, the report criticizes Attal’s decision not to introduce a corrective budget in early 2024, despite warnings from his own finance ministry.

Attal and his former ministers have hit back, calling the report “full of lies” and a “politically motivated attack." They argue they took steps to address the deficit and blame the crisis on a global economic slowdown.

The National Assembly is set to conduct its own inquiry into the budget deficit, though the legal implication is minimal, they may lead to further scrutiny of Attal's time in government.

COALITION CONUNDRUM. The deficit debacle has exposed deep fault lines within the “common ground” coalition that brought together Macron’s centrist EPR with the conservative LR. As Attal sets his sights on the mayorship of Paris, this internal strife presents a major obstacle.

Attal’s relationship with his successor, Prime Minister Michel Barnier, has been characterized by tension and disagreement.

The Senate report, spearheaded by LR, is seen by some as an attempt to distance the conservatives from the economic failures of previous Macron-led governments.

Attal and LR leader Laurent Wauquiez have clashed over policy issues like raising employer contributions and the allocation of key parliamentary posts.

Tensions are high between Attal’s EPR group and their LR partners, with Attal accusing Wauquiez of being more interested in personal gain than in supporting the coalition.

MAYORAL PROSPECTS. Despite the current turmoil, Attal remains a strong contender for the mayorship of Paris. However, he faces a complex political landscape and will need to carefully navigate the challenges ahead.

A recent poll found that 42% of Parisians believe Attal would make a good mayor.

He will likely not face competition with the current Minister of Culture and mayor of the 7th arrondissement, Rachida Dati, but he will need to make a concession with the woman who has long laid her eyes on the position. Similar to what he did with Elizabeth Borne...

While being far less popular, Incumbent mayor Anne Hidalgo has not ruled out running for a third term, and the Socialist Party remains a force in Parisian politics.

Two Path, One Party

As Attal prepares to succeed Sejourne as the head of the Renaissance party on 8th Dec. He would point new direction to the party, namely:

ORGANISATION AND ELECTION. Attal is expected to expand the party's executive board to include more representatives from different regions of France. This move suggests a desire to make the party more inclusive and responsive to local concerns, echoing Stéphane Séjourné's broader efforts to decentralise Renaissance.

CONTROL OVER NOMINATIONS. Attal plans to appoint Franck Riester, one of his close allies, as the head of the elections division and the president of the National Investment Commission (CNI). This strategic placement will give Attal a key advantage in shaping the party's electoral landscape and promoting candidates aligned with his vision.

POST-MACRON MOMENTUM. Attal's leadership could also lead to a shift in power dynamics within the Renaissance, potentially diminishing the influence of long-standing Macron loyalists. Sources suggest that Attal aims to "dilute the weight" of figures like Richard Ferrand and Stanislas Guerini who currently hold significant sway within the party as de facto official members, despite barely participating in any party works or burex meetings. This move could signal a desire to assert his own authority and potentially distance the party from its close association with Macron, especially as he prepares for a potential presidential bid in 2027.

Hiiii! I’m Zanna, I lost this account a few years ago and just recently got it back and am starting to use tumblr more. Most of the people I follow are inactive accounts from 10+ years ago but you’re still going strong and live-blogging and i just want to 1. say thanks bc your posts remind me of the tumblr i love and remember lol and 2. ask if we can be friends and talk about ice skating and stuff.

I started trying to follow real world skating after watching Yuri on Ice (of course lol) and I always watch it during the olympics but i’d like to watch all the other events too and have someone to discuss with <3

You're back! Welcome back!

I'd love to be tumblr skating and fandom buddies-- I'm probably going to be even more on my bullshit than usual because this year my wife (that happened while you were off I think. But the woman I used to call my bestie is now my wife ;) and I will be GOING TO WORLDS.

This is a perfect time to start blathering at each other about it, because the grand prix season just started! If you have peacock from the Olympics they stream all the grand prix as well (no challenger though. Boo), but you have to poke around in the live and upcoming sports area for it. Or, if you were to have non-US internet the isu has streams on youtube (the non-US internet part is required there, because geoblocking).

Every weekend for the next few weeks is one of the grand prix--next up: Skate Canada. I'm super excited for it because it's Jason Brown's first grand prix in a while (he went into semi-retirement after his amazing Sinnerman at the Olympics, where he did ice shows around the world and then only showed up for nats and worlds. As a country we decided he deserved that for doing Sinnerman. But he's planning on 2026 Olympics so he's gotten serious again this year and it looks super good. Much better form already in September than he had at Worlds 2024, when he usual peaks later in the season).

Also coming to Skate Canada are:

Cha Junhwan. You may remember him as Korea's Male singles skater in the Olympics/ the skater with the best ina bauer of all time. He had a tough time last season recovering from injury and switching coaches (to the same woman who coaches all the junior Korean women and seems to wish she were Eteri or Hamada. V worried there). I'm really hoping he has a better time this season and was given proper time/support to recover

Kaori Sakamoto! I saw her new programs at a challenger and think they could be a lot of fun, plus. She's Kaori <333. A double axel that covers one side of the rink, deep edges, gorgeous lines, and a commitment to choreo that can't be beat (literally since the Olympics at grand prix and higher. 3 time world champ!!)

Ekaterina Kurakova is so much fun and will definitely win for best costume change on ice! Also, she had trouble last season and I'm wishing her the best

Speaking of wishing the best: Alyssa Liu. Alyssa has been off since the Olympics to focus on her mental health and this is her second competition since March 2022. She looked wonderful at the challenger event she did earlier this season and I'm really hoping she continues to perform well and feels in a good place. She was forced by US Fed into the position of 'America's Leading Lady' far too young and I'm so glad she took time off for her mental health. I hope it'll be a blueprint for a more sustainable way forward.

Ilia Malinin. You've missed the rise of the Quad God if you haven't watched since the Olympics. He's not one of my faves, but I can't not mention the reigning world champ will be there. He's improved a TON in the past two years, finally gotten choreo he appreciates, and his jumps are still. Gorgeous. The quad axel takes my breath away every time. And, iirc, one of his current programs has him do a quad jump into a spread eagle. His transitions!!

Shun Sato, Sota Yamamoto, Kim Yelim and Gabrielle Frangipani are all others singles skaters I'm excited for. Frangipani is a relatively new Italian senior man who had some great speed and power when I saw him last year & Yamamoto + Sato can both be brilliant when they're on. Kim Yelim is just. I've loved her since the Olympics

Hopefully this wasn't too much blather. I'm just. In full figure skating mode and enjoy every chance I get to talk too much about it!
