ok now i am thinking about the funny zebra pants guy having a 'hollow pit inside' and crying a lil. overanalysis time.
maybe his mistrust of himself manifests as that wackass superstition (even though he ends up being right about fours being bad omens, like, every time) since he puts his trust in a higher power. i mean that takes some of the pressure off him to do well, right. if u believe danger just won't come your way because god or the universe has your back and you're naturally lucky you don't really need to trust yourself to dodge it. same with trusting buccellati or giorno or i guess any of his teammates. it's just easier to be optimistic and put ur trust in reliable people rather than yourself, cause that's stressful, and he obv doesn't like to stress.
also. sex pistols fighting might have something to do with this not trusting himself thing. (I KNOW it's supposed to be because no.5 is a stand in for no.4 and they all don't like 4 bc they're all...mista. but i'm in deep now so lemme run wild) cause obviously ur stand fighting with itself is a reflection of some internal conflict. sex pistols relies on teamwork but they don't always get along. they even argue with mista sometimes! they manage to work together and get shit done and they're all happy when they do but they bicker/wrestle/hit each other along the way; like, they always share the same goal, but have a bit of trouble coordinating with each other. lemme put a pin in that 📌
and then there's how he treats his stand like they're whole separate beings from himself. yk like they're his kids or something. and how he has to feed them and 'get them to work,' etc. as opposed to most stand users who view their stands as extensions of themselves or as tools. Their interactions are very cute dgmw! but also I think it does say something about mista in the sense that, when he looks at the manifestation of his soul, he can't recognize that it's him? Or he just does not understand what he's looking at. which is taking me back to the 'hollow inside' thing- it could be a lack of a solid sense of identity, or probably, more fittingly a fractured sense of identity. it makes a lot of sense to me cause he's, what, 18 and constantly surrounded by gore/violence and previously homeless, so he's no doubt traumatized to some degree. i can see a situation like that leading to hella compartmentalization, and causing all kinds of identity issues + not to mention every teenager ever has had problems figuring out who they are.
My main evidence for this compartmentalization bit is rlly just how he snaps into seriousness when fights start to pop off. think like how harsh he is interrogating scolippi vs how chill he is in literally any non-fight scene. he could just be responding to the situation as needed ofc but most comedic relief characters dont lose their sense of humor on the way into a fight scene yfm. to me it seems like, once he recognizes the severity of the situation, he switches into almost a separate set of traits. So: compartmentalization!! if he's compartmentalized his personality to cope or to survive, it's probably really hard to figure out who he is as one whole person. If it's like; he's a fun easygoing dude with his friends, and a focused, no nonsense killer when he's working, and an upstanding friendly neighbor who helps old ladies with their groceries sometimes, it could be very hard to reconcile all those parts of himself that he has partitioned out when he's eventually confronted with them all at once! essentially i think the hollow pit is the part of yourself where a sense of self would go, and i think mista does not have sturdy enough sense of self to fill it.
📌so back to sex pistols. if we can look at them as symbolic of mista's personality/soul then it is also telling how they manage to work towards a goal despite not always getting along. as a symbol it's representative of the different, compartmentalized pieces of mista's self attempting to coexist in order to achieve something. that'd explain the ups and downs of their interactions, since mista can't or doesn't know how to allow the separated parts of himself to interact. y'know, the neighbors can't see work-mista, they can only see neighbor-mista, etc etc. i dont think the reason they fight is because he doesn't like certain parts of himself exactly, i think it's more likely that either a) certain parts of him don't like other certain parts of him or (more fitting to this theory) b) just the hint that these different parts of himself are interacting, when he knows that they shouldn't be, (which is why they are even separate in the first place) is enough to cause cognitive dissonance- probably subconscious- which makes the stand act out. My gut instinct is telling me mista got his stand and was just like "cool. creatures :)" and didnt think about it for more than five minutes but still!!
(don't even get me STARTED on how he conceptualizes them as things that need to be taken care of and the process of parenting urself after childhood trauma... ;-; funny gun cannibal dude)
but also 'something missing in his mental makeup', lol, my guy just has some screws loose.
M...MISTA???
