A New Favorite Thing
No warnings
Good ole irondad and spiderson as suggested by @dantedeletes
Set like, a week or two after Civil War this is very very very early in their relationship.
Tony wants to learn how this slightly annoying snot-nosed kid from queens manufactured webbing that a genius billionaire can’t replicate for the life of him. In the end, he learns the slightly-annoying-snot-nosed-kid-from-queens is actually a miniature version of himself, and decides to keep him.
-
All Tony wanted was to find out how the kid designed that stupid webbing.
He had spent five-no-six days holed up in the lab over this, and nothing. Pep was getting concerned, rightfully so, that he hadn’t just asked Peter to show him. But how was he supposed to do that? ‘Oh hey buddy can you teach me how to do the thing i have multiple phds in because you’re smarter than me at 12?’ The whole thing was god awful embarrassing.
Which would be exactly the reason as to why Tony was about to burn the whole tower down if she pulled something like this again. Inviting the kid herself like she owned the place. Well, she did, but that wasn’t the point of it all. He didn’t even know what to do with an annoying little kid!
It wasn’t that Tony didn’t trust Peter in his lab. He had seen the kid’s grades. It was more or less worrying about what he was supposed to do in the highly unlikely event that the kid wasn’t as trustworthy as he seemed. If they got in there and Peter couldn’t hold his own, he would be at a total loss to keep control in the lab. There were so many questions, so many worries in case something went wrong.
Was he even old enough for the energy drinks? What else was in the minifridge up in the lab? Bagels? Did he like bagels? What if Peter got scared up in the workshop? Would he fit into Tony’s spare safety goggles? What if he didn’t like the way the workshop was organized? What if Peter didn’t want to be around Tony after this and got himself hurt?
And this would be why Tony really hadn’t contacted Peter, huh? His own insecurity about how he was supposed to continue on with his relationship with a something-year-old child after no doubt traumatizing the poor thing in a battle and then embarrassing him via benching halfway through.
He’d read the countless articles in old newspapers, seen the police files involving the kid. The Parker boy was a ticking time bomb, no doubt about it. If Tony didn’t keep him in line and make sure not to hurt him any more, those special abilities might turn into weapons of mass destruction. And he really didn’t want to start planning for the kid to go to the dark side.
But, it was time to man up and face the music. Or, rather, the child standing three feet away with the most worn duffle bag to ever grace the eyes of someone with the Stark name. Tony gently smiled, raising his hand for a polite shake that Peter took with innocent eagerness and aptitude. God, this kid is definitely gonna break something up there.
“Peter, nice of you to join me. I’d love to talk a bit about that webbing we discussed before.”
Peter’s smile faltered a little, but returned within the second.
“Yeah, Miss Potts said to bring my stuff. Though, if you wanna do me a favor, let’s not break any of it. Technically, I’m borrowing it from the school labs.”
“You don’t have your own equipment?”
Tony was honestly shocked. Where had Peter been making all of this? He couldn’t have been using public school half-ass production level equipment this whole time, could he?
“No, sir. I just make the web fluid during chemistry when the teacher turns around.”
Well, that answers that question. How smart was this kid? A few years of straight As indicated intelligence but, at this rate, shouldn’t he have skipped a few grades?
“Well then, looks like it’s time to get down to business, isn’t it?”
Peter’s breathing managed to begin to replicate the tune of “I’ll Make a Man Out Of You”. This kid...
“Yessir.”
And as they reached the elevator, Friday automatically carrying the pair of nerds to floor 79, Tony finally said it.
“Stop calling me sir, you make me feel older every time you speak than most people do when they remind me that my father was young and spry in the smack dab middle of World War Two.”
“Only if you start referring to this stuff as “web fluid”, Mr. Stark. It’s very important to repect scientific nomenclature in the form given by the original scientist.” “How much of that was a the answer to a science class pretest?” “The whole thing.”
Fair enough, you little-
The elevator came to a halt (smoothly, of course. It’s stark tech) at the workshop. Luckily for Tony, he had plenty of extra space so Peter would feel comfortable. He pointed to a desk a few feet from his own and briefly stated “Set your gear up over there, tell me what chemicals you need.”
Peter, however, didn’t seem to willing to let his host take the lead.
“Oh no, sir, I brought my own stuff. Midtown is loaded with spare bottles. They won’t notice.”
Two could play at that game, couldn’t they? Well, there was always one way to find out.
“Yeah, and you’re gonna leave them in the bag and put them back tomorrow morning.”
“Tomorrow’s saturday.”
“Monday, whatever. My cabinet has a billion variations of every science-related doohickey known to man and it could use some more use. No point wasting all the money that school probably spends with the intent of it being used in class, huh? And what did I say about calling me sir?”
“Sorry, sir.”
The kid was smirking. What did Tony do to deserve such cruel treatment from the universe?
Peter tossed his bag onto the desk with enough force to make any non-enhanced teenager look like they were about to throw a tantrum. But, Peter merely glanced at his hands, sighed, and checked that none of the gear had gotten damaged.
Right, super kid. Not a normal intern. Not an intern at all, technically. Unless...
Nope. Later, Tones.
Tony quickly assisted in the set-up, hoping he could rush this and memorize the formula as quickly as inhumanly possible. And that’s when he noticed, Peter’s notes were in the back of his chemistry notebook. How in pointbreak’s name had nobody figured this kid out yet?
Pushing his lack of faith in humanity and all of its company, Tony unlocked the cabinet of infinite chemicals.
“Alright can you grab me some... uhhhhh.... Salicylic Acid, Touline, Methanol, Carbon Tetrachloride, H-Heptane, Potassium Carbonate, Ethyl Acetate, Hexate, BHA, Sodium Tetraborate, and why not just jump the gun and grab the Cactivator Activated Silica Gel now instead of waiting until later?”
Jesus christ this might as well be a liquid bomb with how little he trusts a child with any of these products. Especially silica gel. Don’t kids get high off of that stuff? No, no, Tony, be a good mentor-figure-thing. Now was the time to let the kid have a little room to make mistakes. Let him blow up the lab now instead of later. Sounds responsible.
“Gotcha, Wiz Kid.”
“First off, if I was a sim, my childhood aspiration would be Rambunctious Scamp.”
Tony deadpanned at Peter for another three minutes and twelve seconds before finally responding.
“I literally have no idea what you are talking about, ever.”
Well, ain’t that the truth. However, if Tony was being honest with himself, a little back and forth did wonders to calm his nerves. Maybe the kid wasn’t all too frightening. More like a kitten in the freezing rain.
“What’s next?”
Peter grabbed the worn notebook and examined the page closely.
“Uhhhh, now we add activator degas for 30 minutes, I think. Or is it 45? Wait a sec, I’ll find it somewhere in my notes.”
“You don’t have it memorized?”
“Well, usually I don’t have an audience.”
“Touché.”
Time continued on like that for the next half hour. Back and forth, quip after quip, each remark from the thir-fif-twe-si-fourteen year old “August 10th, 2001, the day the world wishes had never happened. No, it’s a joke Mr. Stark. More of a gen z kind of thing.” reminding Tony of himself. Perhaps, in another world, he could have been as amazing as Peter Parker was proving to be.
He even introduced Peter to the bots, who immediately decided they had a new brother to play with and went hog wild trying to play ball with the kid who was far more interested in marveling at their hotwiring. To Tony, their designs were juvenile and messy. However, to the teenaged dumpster diver next to him, they were beautiful.
And once time slowed, they finally went back to work.
“Now we need to heat it, slowly! Don’t hurt my baby, Mr. Stark!”
“Your baby?”
“You literally just called a little robot your baby but I’m the weird one, ok.”
“Dum-E has artificial feelings, your super glue wouldn’t care if you magically turned to ash.”
Ok, too far. But the kid took it as a joke, no doubt. He snorted the whole way through his laugh. Snorted.
“How slowly is this supposed to be anyway?”
“For the next 24 hours.”
“24 HOURS? What are we supposed to do until then?”
“I dunno. I can swing over tomorrow and we can finish it up then.”
“Yeah, yeah, sounds good.”
Tony helped Peter load his equipment back up, hoping the kid wouldn’t get caught stealing school property.
“Heck, maybe make it a tradition. Lab days until one of us explodes from too much science.”
And Tony smiled. The brightest, most genuine smile he had ever given in his lifetime.
“You got it, kiddo.”
Yeah, Lab days.
He could get behind that.
It might just be his new favorite thing.

Be Okay (Part 2)
Be Okay(Part 1)
Sweet Pea x OC
“It’s always for you And never for me I need it to stop So let me tell you, please I'm always sad And I'm always lonely But I can’t tell you That I'm breaking slowly”
feelings are fatal - mxmtoon
Tumblr media
Here’s part 2! Let me know what you think!
Slight tw: mentions of physical assault, small eating disorder mention, mentions of mental health
Unsurprisingly, Ariane was right.  She wasn't okay. Things weren't okay and at this point, she was sure things would never get better. The negative thoughts rapidly flood her mind as she rolls out of bed to get ready for school, which she has been dreading.
There was a positive side to it at least.
Now, Ariane Cogan is an expert at being heartless. To her, the whole situation with Sweet Pea was all her fault. She should have just kept her stupid mouth shut. Ariane grew up constantly telling herself not to get too attached to people, not to let herself get too vulnerable.
But Sweet Pea was the exception. Sweet Pea was always the exception.
He was the only one allowed to talk to her on her worst days, the only one allowed to provide hugs and warmth and physical comfort, the only one that let her feel.
Ariane should've known it was too good to be true.
People like Sweet Pea don't fall into relationships with people like Ariane Cogan.
Someone as attractive as him didn't need someone crushingly average like Ariane. He towers over everyone with his 6'4 frame, she could get lost in a group of children as she stands at 5'1. Nothing about them matches. Nothing about her matches with anyone.
Of course it's easier to place the blame on others, those who hurt her, but in the end, she's the only one to blame.
She's just not enough.
Ariane shakes her head violently before stalking towards the bathroom, wanting to prolong staying at home as much as possible.
Not like home was any better than school, but it seemed like the lesser of two evils on this particular morning. Unfortunately, the high schooler already missed a week of school due to her embarrassment.
A loud sigh leaves her before she slams the door to the bathroom shut.
She knows the noise she's making is going to lead to her parents raising hell at 6:30 in the morning, but she can't keep her anger contained to her self deprecating thoughts.
After a quick morning routine, Ariane drags herself with her book bag to the kitchen. Her mother is slumped over the kitchen table surrounded by various bottles of alcohol, presumably passed out. The absence of her father leads her to conclude he's on another bender.
"Very nice." The annoyed teen grumbles under her breath. She opens the fridge in search for food to pack for lunch, but isn't surprised to find it empty. Another sigh leaves her.
Well, she was planning to diet anyway, so the absence of food doesn't affect her too much.
Ariane has gone longer not eating anyway.
She manages to find a lone apple and throws it in her bag for her lunch. She didn't really have an appetite this morning either.
After one more glance at her mother, Ariane leaves quietly to not disturb her.
With all the other thoughts, Ariane didn't even have time to think about how she didn't have a ride to school. Sweet Pea used to pick her up every morning.
"Hey, Cogan!" She immediately recognizes his booming voice, but chooses to ignore it. The fourteen year old girl hates attention, which the fifteen year old boy very well knows. "Hey, stupid! Can you hear me?" She tries walking faster in an attempt to avoid him, but his motorcycle travels much faster than her short legs. He skillfully stops the bike in front of her. "Were you ignoring me?" He fakes a hurt expression.
"Yes, dumbass, now let me get to school." She growls at him.
"Ouch, guess I caught you on a bad day. Anyway, need a ride? Or to Pop's, or the quarry, wherever you want to go!" The irritated girl knows he just wants to show off the new bike he probably stole a few towns over, but she can't help but share his excitement. Her best friend having a ride basically meant freedom, especially at such a young age.
"Yeah," she finally lets herself smile. "Yeah, sounds fun. Take me... wherever." She climbed on the back of the bike, awkwardly grabbing on to his waist.
Ariane Cogan could never think of an exact time that she started falling for Sweet Pea, but if she had to, it would've been that moment. Riding with him around town, neither knowing where they were going. That night was spent with too much junk food and Ariane constantly landing slapping her best friend on the back of the neck for the amount of times he pretended to crash his bike.
She felt happy for the first time in a while, and she knew it was because of him.
Ariane forces herself out of her reminiscing and starts the walk to school. She's sure Sweet Pea would swing by and pick her up if she asked, but she couldn't ask him for any favors just yet.
Besides, he's probably taking whoever he's 'seeing' to school now. The tall and pretty girl. The girl that's her exact opposite.
The walk to school takes a lot shorter than she would've liked, but still she forces herself to climb up the stairs to the broken down building. On a normal day, she would wait with Sweet Pea on top of the stairs for the other serpents to meet them. Today, however, she had to walk past him making out with the girl he's seeing. She refuses to look too closely at them, thinking she wouldn't be able to live constantly comparing her to his new girlfriend.
She looks for Toni or Fangs, or anyone, but it seems as if she's alone this morning.
"Great..."
The morning classes pass by quickly. Luckily she doesn't see him at all, but she can't get rid of the weird feeling she has.
Yes she's glad she doesn't need to interact with him yet, but where are her other friends? Shouldn't one of them have made an effort to speak to her by now? Especially because of her week long absence.
Nonetheless, bigger thoughts occupy her mind.
Ariane dreads the hour she has to spend with Sweet Pea, probably with his new girlfriend. She takes her time packing her bag to avoid the awkward situation.
She already planned out dozens of scenarios in her head, each one progressively getting worse. There's not a single way her creative mind can see a positive outcome from meeting his new lover.
Her suspicions are quickly proven to be correct when the first thing she sees upon entering the cafeteria is a tall, blue haired girl sitting in her usual seat. The shade of blue in her hair is one Ariane is able to recognize almost instantly. She can't stop herself from storming over to the table.
"Katherine Hale? She's who you're seeing?" Ariane doesn't even try to hide the absolute disgust in her voice. They all turn to stare disapprovingly at the lone serpent.
"Damn Cogan I get you're jealous, but can you try to act civil for once?" She doesn't really know what she was expecting before walking over to them, but it definitely wasn't the hatred and hostility she was feeling from his stare alone. She never heard him spit her name with so much venom either.
"I'm not jealous Pea! Just... you know what type or person she is, right?"
"Yes? We're kind of dating, why wouldn't I know the type of person she is?" He responds sarcastically.
Ariane doesn't want to believe he'd date someone that spent so much of her life tormenting her. Katherine Hale played a large role in making Ariane feel worthless growing up. Years of bullying that only stopped once Ariane finally snapped and broke her nose.
She feels herself get pushed down before she slides across the floor, followed by laughter.
"You're pathetic, you know that right? Your only friend is that mountain. You guys are perfect together! His height makes him a freak, and you're just a freak."
She let Katherine get away with much worse in the short amount of time they knew each other, but the insults towards her friend were her breaking points.
The hurt girl slowly picks herself up, blocking out her taunting and the taunting from the bystanders.
"Are you going to go cry?" Katherine mocks her.
Without any further thought, she delivers a hard punch to the middle of her face, followed by a sickening crunch.
Ariane never would've thought she would resurface as her best friend's new girlfriend.
"Arianna, I was hoping we could move on from what happened!" Katherine speaks up in a sickly sweet tone.
"Oh my gosh... you know my name." Ariane instantly snaps.
"It was an honest mistake, chill out." Sweet Pea speaks up once again.
"Pea, you're not being serious are you?"
"People change, Ari." Fangs speaks up after awkwardly watching for a little while. "Besides, mixing up Ariane with Arianna is an honest mistake, the names are very sim-"
"Did anybody ask you Fogarty?" She can't help but direct her anger towards Fangs, who raises his arms in surrender. "Look, my point is, people don't just change. Especially not after everything she did to you and me!"
"She never did anything to me. Like, no offense, do I even know you're telling the truth? You are the only that broke her nose, I don't see why you have any right to be the angry one in this situation. We're happy together, can you just be happy for me for once?" His eyes look so unfamiliar to her. They used to be filled with warmth and home, not... hatred.
"I'm trying to look out for you! And when have I not been happy for you, Pea?"
"I'm sorry for causing all this." Kathy chimes in quietly. "I'll leave if you want me to b-"
"Jesus just shut the hell up!" The anger Ariane is displaying is very out of character for the girl who usually chooses to just stay silent and not add her input to any conversation. Maybe if the trio cared enough they would've noticed her odd behavior. "Guys just listen-"
"Baby can we move?" Kathy whines while hanging off Sweet Pea's arm, cutting Ariane off.
"Of course baby." He responds instantly. Sweet Pea grabs his bag and swings an arm around her. Neither of them bother to even look at Ariane, however they make sure to say their goodbyes to Toni and Fangs. Their actions fuel to her anger as she was sure her and Sweet Pea would remain friends, but he has shown recently he has a knack for proving her wrong.
Ariane watches sadly till the couples is beyond earshot.
"Well, good riddance, right?" Ariane humorlessly jokes, expecting smiles and laughter from her remaining friends.
"That was uncalled for Ariane." Toni is the first to speak up.
"What? She was being a bitch. I can't defend myself anymore?" Ariane doesn't mean to snap at Toni, but the feeling of her friends turning on her causes all her frustrations to bubble up.
"No she wasn't. She was trying to be nice. Try it sometimes. You can't pull shit like that and expect to still have friends." Ariane isn't used to the coldness Fangs is using with her, but still tries to act unaffected.
"Okay, forget it, let's just move on! What's been going on with you guys? I haven't seen you in like a week." The brunette quickly tries to fix the tense atmosphere.
"Actually, we're just going to sit with Pea and Kathy. I'm sure you can come, if you want." Fangs's tone makes it obvious he'd rather the unfeeling girl not follow them.
"Oh, I forgot I had make up work to finish up anyway. Have a nice lunch." She grumbles, standing and turning away from them, throwing her apple out on the way.
The whole interaction quickly made her lose her appetite.
You're so stupid, her thoughts come back to taunt her. Should've just kept your stupid mouth shut. Just stop talking from now on. Only bad things happen when you talk.
It didn't seem like such a horrible thing. Her mouth does seem to ruin most of her relationships.
Not talking couldn't be too hard. It didn't really seem like she had anyone to talk to anyway.
Ariane walks through the empty halls, not too sure where to go. All her lunch periods used to be spent with her three best friends, but they so easily replaced her. None of them even gave her a second thought, which proves how little she meant to them in the first place.
Why would they care about you? You're nothing.
Nothing, that's what she's been feeling for a long while now.
Too caught up in her thoughts, she barely feels the impact of hands pushing her backwards and another pair grabbing her arms. It's the conversation that snaps her out of her trance.
"Heard you got replaced?" A ghoulie that Ariane couldn't be bothered with learning his name taunts her. Before, the serpent had the protection of the other three members. Now that she's alone, she's a very easy target.
"Where'd you hear that?" Although the two boys tower over her, she easily shoves their hands away and tries to push past them. However, the taller of the boys shoves her into the lockers behind them.
"Here and there. Also, why else would a serpent be wandering alone?" Ariane's skin crawls at their closeness but doesn't let it show. Emotion doesn't show easily on her face.
"Because I want to? Now get your damn hands off of me." She growls at them.
"No thanks." Unexpectedly, one of them deliver a punch to her stomach. Ariane groans in surprise before collapsing to the ground. The assault doesn't stop there. The two boys relentlessly throw punches and kicks to any part of her body they can.
Internally, Ariane knows she would be able to defend herself from them. This isn't the first time she had a run in with ghoulies, these two specifically. However, with everything that has been happening recently, Ariane definitely wouldn't mind any excuse to stay home from school.
"This is no fun." One of them complains. "I thought she would fight back." He adds a kick to her aching stomach for extra emphasis.
"Shit, me too. She always fights back. Guess losing her boy toy took the fight from her." The taller taunts.
"Do we just leave her here?" Ariane can tell he's at least two years younger than the taller boy based on their conversation, but she can't really think straight right now.
"I guess. What else would we do? Is she even alive?" He kicks her lightly with the tip of his boot but she can't find the energy to move to respond to his question.
"Did we go too far?" The other whimpers.
"No, shut up Gash."
Gash. That's his stupid name. Fitting.
The bell ringing interrupts their thoughts.
"Let's just leave her here, okay? No one cares about this slut anyway."
True.
She hears them quickly scurry away as the hallway floods with more students leaving the cafeteria or entering from the courtyard.
Ariane gathers herself as quick as she can to avoid stares or any further damage.
The decision to limp out of the dilapidated school wasn't a hard one to make. She ignores as much of the dirty looks as she can, especially those she knows are coming from him and the rest of them.
Once again, she is alone, covered in cuts and scrapes, but she has never felt less than she has in her entire life.
Not even the physical bruises are enough to make Ariane Cogan feel.
Being abandoned this time was the final straw.
Nothing and no one is worth feeling for again.
She only has him to thank for it.
