#i wanted a rogue hetty protege for so long

You’ve heard my crack-adjacent, crack-lite, and full-on crack theories re: Katya or “Katya.” Now I present to you my crackalacka theory that I’ve not been able to shake today.

It would tie A LOT of things together, so I highly doubt anything like it will happen.

It’s posited on one question: Are all the Callen storylines actually separate, or do they just look separate as misdirects or partial indirects?

Katya is clearly getting help, we’re supposed to realize that the Deep Fake has Deep Ties to other things. We’ve got Hetty off on some Super Secret Mutant Ninja Mighty Morphin’ Lange Mission. G’s mini-spy crosses path with Hetty’s less-mini-spy-pal. This mini-spy came to him during some of the Russia/Katya messes. Before she left, we had the Subject 17 debacle surface. “Greg”/Subject 17 met-cute with Subject Not-17. Katya’s starting to center in on G more. Kilbride is worried more about what the Hetty/Drona thing is going to do to Callen than the Deep Fake, and he has been no stranger to commenting on all the Russian ties and femme fatales. Yet THIS has him concerned.

And Kilbride has had some recurring themes with his character, mainly how he reacts to suicides or apparent suicides and mental health struggles. (Someone theorized that might have lost his son that way, so he’s extra sensitive to it -- though who wouldn’t be.) He’s very concerned with G’s mental health, which seems to be coming to the forefront. Something that wasn’t a recurring theme with Kilbride but very much focused on the Kilbride Mythos: his rogue protege. This was in a Bartels ep, and he tends to strongly foreshadow things. At first it looked like G might have some more rogue-time in the future, especially since Kilbride’s own prized protege Laura Song (a.k.a. Callen-equivalent) did it. 

But what if the foreshadowing was of someone who would target Callen because they were an agent-gone-bad from Hetty’s project? It would be too much of a coincidence for Meet-Cute-Spy-Lady Leah to be shady BEFORE she met Callen. But the actress hinted she’d be back. (Leah is close to Laura, but that’s a stretch.)

So are we leading up to another rogue Hetty protege/subject? Was Hetty trying to clean up some related mess? Is someone with internal connections/access seeking revenge on Hetty by going after Callen, conveniently when everyone would be looking solely at Katya? Is all the mental health talk going to play into this, as well? Did Laura Song make Kilbride extra paranoid about what might happen if Callen goes too far down the rabbit hole after learning more about Drona -- and that’s what Hypothetical Rogue Agent is hoping for: mess with Callen’s head AND turn him against Hetty? (He’d also be a convenient scapegoat with his current mental state, past obsessions involving Hetty and his past, and rogue ways.)

Like I said, crackalacka theory. And hooboy, this was so much longer than I thought it would be.
