hi i'm just joesara posting. that's all this is. like. man i love joesara. i can see them both romantically and platonically and either way their relationship is just. so beautifully devastating.

like here is sara, who is always doubting herself. and then joe, who's always countering her self-loathing. sara, who thinks she's too intense and hurts people too much. joe, who tells her that it isn't always a bad thing. sara who can't forgive herself for his death, who blames herself for pointing out that he wasn't the sage, who begged miley to let her switch places with him. and joe, who just tells her she's his best friend and he loves her when he's about to die. who tells everyone they're his friends, that he doesn't blame them.

joe, who carried around a dog keychain sara got him in his pocket for ages, who has accessories with bones on them, who tells sara he will stay loyal to her, "like a dog." who walked back to school after going on a date with her best friend, a date during which he just talked about her, because he knew she was scared of her stalker, who went to the fair with her in her minisode because of the same reason. this guy who sees her "flaws" as her strengths and supports her in whatever she decides to do.

i think the fact that she doesn't realize just how important he was to her until after he's gone is what gets me. he was always telling her she's his best friend, but it's not until she's talking to a robot version of him that she finally gets to reciprocate that, and i just know she'll always be carrying around so many "i wish i told him"s in her heart. but what i think is also so beautiful about her overcoming some of that grief and moving toward acceptance (at least in the emotion route) is that she realizes joe wouldn't blame her.

and i don't think it's entirely because of his AI. it's because she knew him.

sure, it's his AI that tells her that- but sara is well aware that isn't him. what she does finally realize in that moment, however, is that the real joe would forgive her. that he wouldn't be mad at her. that he doesn't blame her because that's not the kind of person he is. she forgives herself because of her own internal strength and memories. she forgives herself because he loved her no matter what.

and she keeps going. she lets go of the blame, but she doesn't lose those good memories she had with him. she lets what she learned from him strengthen her rather than hold her back. she internalizes the same things he always said to her and uses it to become better herself, to uplift the people around her who are still alive. she decides she's going to do everything she can to keep everyone alive because she doesn't want anyone to go through the same thing she did after losing joe. he's carrying her, he's carrying the narrative, long after he dies. spreading goodness.

they're eternally devoted to each other, even beyond the grave.

i Just played her minisode for myself (after watching it some time ago) and i was struck with all these thoughts about them once again. i think what especially gets me is the fact that i think sara did have a crush on him and just. didn't have enough time to sort through her own thoughts, or tell him. there are so many moments, both in her minisode and in the game, where i think it shines through. and that's just another "what-if?" she may not realize for a while, but will always be in the back of her head.

i don't think grief is nearly as... "simple," for lack of a better word, as it's kind of shown in your turn to die. i do love the portrayal of it for what the situation dictates, but if/when sara ends up getting out of the game, and all the survival instinct wanes and she has time to fully process it... i feel so bad for her. there's nothing that won't remind her of him. there's nothing she won't miss. there's nothing she won't wonder about. all of that, it just. god it all makes me so sad.

i don't like when people say "move on" when referring to grief. i think that implies leaving it behind, and if you ever really love something, i don't think it's possible to just put it down and leave it there. but i do hope it gets easier for her to carry it around with her the same way it briefly began to in the death game.

anyway. in the end, it really just comes down to a very simple tragedy; two best friends who would do anything for each other only having the option of doing nothing.

Oh a bit of a challenge! I'll gladly take it since I'm always happy to indulge in YTTD related stuff!

Abnormality Dancing Girl - This is such a Shin song. It's about changing who you are and feeling as if you're going crazy while doing so! I think the lyrics that most back up my choice to pair this song with him is: "I can't go on like this. Constantly being manipulated by useless measures of worth. I've already come to hate this life. So, I think I'll restart my life.

The Rest Undercut

Meltdown - I'm going with Sara for this one! I interpret this song to be about haunting grief, which is something Sara has felt since the death of Joe. She feels guilty like she caused it, which how the lyrics "In my dream I strangled you. In the languid afternoon light. I watched your throat, thin and twitching. I watched your throat, thin and twitching." could come into play.

ECHO - This is so Maple core. The lyrics "What the hell's going on?! Can someone tell me please? Why I'm switching faster than the channels on TV? I'm black, then I'm white. No! Something isn't right! My enemy's invisible, I don't know how to fight!" match so well to when she's freaking out in the pink room.

Appetite Of A People Pleaser - Maybe Ranmaru for this one? The song could be about his need to make Sara happy despite how self destructive it is to himself. The lyrics I think most back up my choice are: "Maybe if I try a little harder, it will be okay. One day. Keep on eating more and more. Divide my life away into servings. And go beyond the point of no return."

Kakakuri Pierrot - This is another Sara mourning Joe song to me! Mostly because of the multiple references to being a clown, and I consider the Joesara theme of the game to be "Clown Song." The lyrics I think most back up my idea are: "It's so easy, and yet so difficult, for I can move on as soon as I accept reality. Unable to believe it, not wanting to believe it, I must be a clown inside your mind, aren't I?"

BETTER OFF WORSE - This gives me Alice during the band era vibes. The song is more overdramatic then what he probably felt about the situation, but I do think it has some basis! The lyrics that make me think this are: "Bleed out for audience approval Tragic, but perfectly on schedule. You think by now that we would have learned. Behind every piece of art is a human to be heard. Rejecting change to keep you there."

Non-Breath Oblige - I think this fits Shin the most since the lyrics all seem like a long winded rant he'd go on! For example: "I'll raise the white flag to the tyranny of the majority. Suppress my ill feelings and say cheese." Plus the chorus has Shin written all over it: "I want to live but I'm told to die."

Bug - This song feels like a panic attack so I'm assigning it to Shin. The lyrics that make me think this are: "Well! It's a desperate situation, I'm doomed to fall no matter what I do! Surely, surely sinking, no, no, NO!"

HIBANA - Another song that I think is Maple and Midori coated! Mostly about their messed up "romance" that Maple was forced to feel despite how poorly Midori treated her. The lyrics that make me think this is: "Come, come, mute the complaints. Hesitating over stupid things. You're kidding, huh? Ahaha!. Seems like unbreakable walls are being pressed for a kiss."

Fixer - Again, I think this is a Shin song! He really fits Vocaloid tunes! The lyrics that make me think this are: "With this shoddy excuse for a smile, I let time fly by, acting as if I know what I’m talking about. I never wanted to end up like this."

Orthodoxia - I know you said ignore the meaning but the song seems to fit ASU-NARO as a whole considering we hear that it may have some basis in religion in Kai's mini episode. The lyrics that I think back up my point are: "I take people’s lives away, devouring even their wishes. I’ve been living by trampling on the misfortune of others. The world was not such a wonderful place after all! If you flatter your idol, then your life will be saved. There is no such thing as correct teachings!"

Bocca Della Verita - I think this fits Maple and Midori since I could see it playing over the scene where she attacks him. The lyrics I think back up this idea the most are: "I-I-I quite hate you, w-w-w-w-what is wrong? You're still so frivolous, while I'm noble. I drag you across the dry floor. If you weren't around, I would be a goddess by now!"

♡ Today is probably my blog's anniversary! ♡

I thought I could share its history on this occasion. This is going to be long so I'm putting it under the cut!

I'm on Tumblr more than a year - I used to have another blog. I was unaware of the ship discourse and I was immature enough to ship incest but try to convince people that adult x minor ships are bad... At least I never harrassed anyone. I think I posted mostly about Pokemon, Inazuma Eleven and Danganronpa back then? Then I got into Your Turn To Die. I'm not in the fandom anymore (I will gladly play new chapters though!), but looking back, it really changed me. At the beginning I shipped Joesara, just a normal ship between two friends. But when I replayed chapter 2, I noticed how much sense Keiji x Sara makes. It's a very problematic ship, but I just loved it so much! When looking for content of it, I came across the "proship" and "antiship" terms. I really liked the proship mindset. But then I realised that my mutuals might not think the same way. After looking at their blogs I noticed that most of them were antishippers. And there was Keisara week coming in a few days and I really wanted to make something for it! My solution was simple, I just made another blog. It was called keixsara and it was my side blog at the beginning, where I would just reblog Keisara fanart. In the meantime I also tried other social media, but none of them were as comfortable for me as a proshipper as Tumblr. Some time after I lost interest in YTTD and got into Pokemon again. But then I got sick of the fact that I can't be myself on my main blog. I had new problematic ships and I wanted to share my love for them with the world. I decided to leave the previous blog without a word, I didn't need it anymore and there were no people who needed me. It was in February. I changed the proship blog to match my interests from that time and it's still the same now! I chose Blissey as my icon and inspiration for my ulr because this Pokemon has a pretty design, I love its colours (pastel pink is my favourite colour!) and it brings happiness to people. I hope that if you follow me, I succedeed in making you smile at least one time! I hope that the next year will be blissful too!

yeah it’s kind of. at least in my opinion it’s implied that there’s something going on? the manga has shin mistakenly refer to joe as saras boyfriend and then she rushes to correct him (although i hate to use the manga as a source of canon content lol). it kind of feels like one of those things that can definitely be read as one of them maybeeee having feelings for the other. like joe spending his entire date with ryoko talking about sara instead is definitely a funny bit that you COULD read more into if you wanted to. it’s one of those things where bits of the story are there that could be read as evidence, but they aren’t definitively pointing in any one specific direction. yk?

Hair.  [YTTD - Joesara]

When classes let out for the day, Sara found it strange that Joe wasn’t waiting for her at the front gates of the school. He didn’t mention having o-soji duties, and none of the clubs he was a part of had meetings that afternoon. The two of them always walked to and from school together - it was their little unspoken agreement, and had been since kindergarten. Things changed when they were older and got more involved with after school activities, but they kept this silent promise on the days they were free. It was really out of character for him to rush home without telling her.

She decided to swing by his place on her way home to make sure he was okay. He could have just forgotten, but just in case...

She approached the familiar front door, one she had known since her toddler days, and was greeted warmly by Joe’s mom soon after she knocked.

“He’s upstairs in his room,” she said in lieu of a proper greeting.

“Is he okay?” Sara asked while slipping off her shoes. “It’s not like him to rush home without telling me…”

His mom pressed her lips together in concern and seemed unwilling to say. Something was definitely not right.

“Why don’t you go talk to him? He’ll certainly appreciate you stopping by. I think he needs a friend.”

Her avoidance worried Sara. Did something happen to Joe?

She didn’t have much time to linger on it. She bounced her way upstairs to his room and firmly knocked on the door.

“You in there, Joe?”

The faint sound of rustling behind it let her know he was.

“Is that you, Sara?!”

He sounded normal enough. That was a relief.

“Yeah. Thanks for leaving without me,” she grumbled, pretending to be irritated.

“AGH! I’m sorry!! I totally forgot!”

Yeah, he sounded like normal Joe. It was bizarre that he was talking to her through the door, though...

“Are you alright?”

“Yeah! Yeah, I’m fine. Totally normal. Not different at all. Same old same old. Why do you ask!!”

That time, he sounded off. Almost like he had a tremor in his voice. Sara turned the knob, but realized the door was locked.

“Can I come in?”

He paused for a few long moments before replying.

“Um… I’d rather you didn’t, if that’s okay…”

“Are you indecent?”

“WHAT!? No!! It’s not like that!” his voice rang through the thick walls, clear as day.

“Then what’s wrong? Please tell me… I’m worried…”

She heard a dramatic sigh from the other side before he finally conceded.

“Ugh… fine… but you have to promise not to laugh, okay?!”

“I promise.”

The door slowly opened, and Sara realized why he’d made such a request. One glance at his hair and she found herself holding back a chuckle. In all honesty, it looked like someone had taken a lawn mower to his head. It was cut unevenly on both sides, some parts in the back sticking up every which way thanks to the hard gel styling his curls. It was already difficult to take Joe seriously before, but this new hairstyle was going to make it impossible.

“...Um…”

He ran his hand through his hair to smooth it down, but it sprung back up in an almost comedic fashion. The poor kid let out another disheartened sigh. He seemed really down; it was unlike him to have such a gloomy expression.

“Pretty bad, right? It’s okay, you can say it. Everyone else made fun of me too.”

Sara gave it a closer look and noticed the hair on his right side was slightly longer than the left. Anger suddenly flashed through her mind; if this had been done as a practical joke, the person responsible had gone too far with it.

“What happened? Who did this?”

“A bunch of people from home room said I should change up my look... at first it was kinda fun to think about, but they all got so pushy… then this one older girl from the drama club showed up. Said she wanted to be a beautician or somethin’. She pulled out all these magazines and everyone poled around us and at that point I couldn’t really say no…”

She didn’t mean to pity him, but hearing this made her feel guilty she hadn’t been there to stand up for him. He was prone to bullying, always had been, but even this was extreme. She cupped his face with one hand and ran her thumb across his skin tenderly.

“Oh, Joe…”

He put his hand on top of hers and leaned into it for a moment or two. Then he gently pushed it away.

“It’s okay… I’m used to being laughed at. How’s this any different from the regular stuff, ya know?”

He was breaking her heart, the way he was frowning like that. She rummaged through her mind, trying to think of ways to make the best of his new hairstyle.

“Hold on. Maybe we can fix it. What if you fluffed it out a bit, like this?”

She reached out both hands and ran them through his hair, combing through the crunchiness of the gel. Her fingers brushed against the sides of his neck, making him squirm ever so slightly. He scrunched his shoulders in defense and let out a breathy laugh.

“Hey… stop! That tickles!”

Feigning ignorance, she fluttered her fingers around his ears and teased him when he giggled.

“Hold still! I can’t fix it if you’re moving around like that.”

“Ehehehe! Doooooon’t!!”

When he was least expecting it, she playfully poked his ribs and laughed when he squealed. He lost his balance and fell backwards onto his bed, giving her the upper hand. She launched an all-out attack and continued to poke all of his worst spots, jumping from his sides to his underarms and once in a while scribbling against his neck, just to throw him off. He thrashed around, giggling wildly with a huge smile plastered across his face.

Eventually, he fought her off, grabbing her wrists and holding them with both hands.

“You’re so cold, Sara! Tickling a man when he’s down…”

Sara giggled back, happy to see him smiling once more. She looked at his hair again, the choppy bits strewn all over his comforter, and suddenly got an idea. 

She stood up abruptly and seized a pair of scissors she saw laying on his nightstand. Her eyes focused on her reflection in the mirror as she held thick clumps of hair in her grasp.

“Hey, what are you do- wait, Sara! No!”

It was too late. Long locks of mousy brown hair fell to the ground. Joe watched in abject horror as his best friend gave herself the most atrocious haircut, on purpose. When she was finished, she turned around to face him.

“See? Now we’re matching.”

Sara now had bangs… uneven bangs, but bangs nonetheless. It would’ve been a cute look, had she finished cutting the rest of them instead of keeping the length on her far left side. To Joe, it looked absolutely ridiculous, so much that he burst into laughter once again. This time voluntarily.

“AHAHAHAAHAHA! You look so funny!!”

Not the reaction she was expecting. Annoyed that her act of solidarity was being mocked, she set the scissors on the table once more before pouncing on him. She began tickling his ribs again, this time much more sadistically. His laughter increased in pitch and sounded much more panicked.

“So that’s what you’re gonna do? Laugh at me when I try to make you feel better? Huh? Huh?”

Joe tried to spit out apologies in between fits of laughter, but was only able to babble as her tickle attack continued. At one point he even snorted, which prompted her to tickle him even harder. His squirming became more desperate, yet his efforts to fight her off were pretty halfhearted. By the time she stopped, his cheeks were flushed bright pink and his hair was even more disheveled than before.

She laid down at his side and spent the next few seconds just admiring him. Taking in his form in all its glory. Even if his hair looked ridiculous, his smile was still sunny and bright and wonderful. Just like him. She reached out and ran her hand through his hair again, holding some of it up to the sunlight coming through his window. It shined in reddish-auburn hues and was soft to touch, almost like silk.

“Hey, it doesn’t look so bad now! I kinda like it with one side styled like this.”

Joe’s laughter had finally died down. Once again, he looked quite sullen, giving her a weak half smile to mask the feelings his heart.

“You don’t have to lie to make me feel better, you know…”

“I’m not lying! Seriously. I think it looks cool.”

Joe suddenly sat up with an intense look in his eye.

“Say that again!!”

“Say… what?”

“What you just said right now!!”

“Uh, I think it looks cool?”

Before she could finish, she found both arms pinned to her sides as Joe wrapped her into a strong embrace. He pulled her back down onto his bed and buried his face in her shoulder.

“No one’s ever said I looked cool before!! Not one single soul! But hearing you say that makes me feel like the coolest guy EVER! I could die of happiness, Sara!!”

He rocked her from side to side as he gushed and gushed and gushed over his unsuspecting best friend. She didn’t mind it, really, and she loved being in his arms like this, but after a while it got to be too much even for her.

“Alright, alright! Enough of the sap.”

He released her and used the back of his shirt sleeve to wipe his eyes. She hadn’t noticed he was crying until then, but fortunately it seemed like it was the last of his tears.

“Do you feel better now?” she asked, sneakily worming her hand into his.

“Yeah, loads!! But uh, you really didn’t have to cut your own hair, you know…”

“I know. I kinda dig it though. Maybe we’ll start a new trend.”

For a second, Joe looked like he was about to cry again, but his typical joyful expression soon returned. He squeezed Sara’s hand a little harder.

“You’re… really awesome. You know that?”

She smiled back at him

“Duh. Now enough moping around. Let’s go get takoyaki. I dunno if I’m up for another night of your mom’s cooking.”

He flashed her a toothy grin and bounded off the bed, ready to lead the way.

“You don’t have to ask me twice!!”

I don't know why, but "She Wants Me (To Be Loved" by The Happy Fits reminds me so much of Joesara. Just them pre-canon, hanging out and having fun,, it means the world to me

SMIRK EMOJI IM SO GLAD U ASKED But legit ! I do have a lot of thoughts on it! The basic gist is that i adore it! But i dont want it to be canonical, which is weird but hear me out! In canon i just dont think it’d help the plot line, because joe’s place as a best friend character is already really good as it is! and adding on that romantic subplot is not only extremely experimental and based on how the player percieves joe, so there would be the risk of “oh i liked joe but, not like that no” ++on top of that, i think nankidai has a REALLY good thing going on!! say if sara does make it out alive, she still has to be the messenger of that info to his girlfriend ryoko which kinda gives that sense of foreboding dread. whether nankidai utilizes this or not doesnt really matter cos in the end, it gets that message across of “this death game is not detached to reality” which is really cool imo!! I feel like i was gonna say smth else but i cant think of it rn </3 ANYWAYS ONTO THE REASON I LIKE FANON JOESARA Boys that say hiii x girls that say bruh + friends to lovers kills me immediately and I enjoy it too much Also its fanon so could be used for fans own twist on the relationship, so theres a lot of room for creativity and how people personally perceived them, and i like that! anyways yozi plans on putting their own take on this one I cannot wait to get bullied but i hope u enjoyed my not so little opinion on joesara!! -Mod Nurd
