Thoughts On: Sengoku Night Blood Episode 2
Episode 2 of Sengoku Night Blood means the first time we do the “Thoughts On” for this episode and the first of the fall season. Next one is tomorrow night with TsukiPro So this week was a pick up of where last week ended with the big head honcho of the Werewolf clan (For my personal sanity that is what we will call it) in Nobunga whom had found Hide and the protagonist (we’ll get to her name shortly) and then the first of two “fight or flee” segments occurred (okay it was really 3 but who’s counting) and from that point we learned that...YEAH THIS IS AN OTOME ANIME but there WILL BE fighting and bloodshed which is always fun! Things picked up in a hurry after the first encounter with Nobunga though. Hide came up with a BRILLIANT plan the following morning back at the Vampire base: He would get the girl (whom we find out is named “Yuzuki”...I prefer “Ami” but that’s just me) to marry him. This leads to a problem at the end of the episode BUT we are getting ahead of ourselves. Last week the entire clan introduced themselves so this week would (eventually) be one when introductions of the main characters as far as how they feel towards the girl would start. Hide made his intentions clear to marry the girl and, as would come later, we had Toshiee (who is a bit of a loose canon) and Mitsunari even express his feelings about the girl in his own way. The personalities of the three are interesting because of the fact that when you break them down to the SIMPLEST FORM its like this Hide - “Mr. Knows what he wants and will get it in the end if he has to” Mitsunari - the official “Tsundere” of the group and I say that because, while he wasn’t TOTALLY COLD to the girl when he let his feelings slip out it was AMAZING Then of course we know we have Toshiee who is reckless as all get out BUT he also likes to protect people which is awesome! Vampires apparently aren’t 100% DICKS all the time now are they? The thing is for this episode it actually was a pretty quick moving show. Now when I say that what I mean is you go from when it begins and within the first minute past the OP there is some s**t going down be it a fight or a chase scene so action is the name of the game here. I think this was done because they wanted to kind of make it known that “We know our audience wants to see the romance but we also want to see some fighting!” Order completed! Going back to plot point with Hide saying that he wanted to marry the girl...it was interesting to see the confession this early cos for some reason I thought they were going to really drag that out and I’m kind of glad they didn’t because then you have to wrap up the plot point quicker if you waited and then people would have speculated with “OMG WHAT IS HIDE GOING TO DO?!” One thing I REALLY LIKED also is, while the marriage proposal was a big plot point with Yuzuki, (and if I am getting the name wrong I do apologize) the episode in its 23 minutes also allowed us to put a spotlight on Toshiee and Mitsunari which I liked. Toshiee is reckless but the admirable kind and I liked Mitsunari last week too! I think having him also make that “confession” that he liked the girl was actually cute the way they did it because when you look at him you PROBABLY THINK “Stuck up” or “aloof” and he CAN BE but he seems to have a genuinely big heart and I want to see more of how that goes So final verdict on the episode I liked it a lot! When you have a series like this you have to stop and think about how to present it to the viewer because...in Japan if you are airing this on TV you flip the channel but if you are watching this and its boring on a stream site you click off and never watch it again. Do I think you NEED to have one fight an episode? Not really because you CAN USE the “filler” to develop the relationships but at the same time I think they know they can’t do that so its 5th gear at the start and then let off later on in the episode which sounds like backwards building and it CAN BE but the reality is that its not that bad and when you go through and watch it you will enjoy it...and maybe find a best boy out of the bunch (and really even if you are a dude you might find one you like...I’m a sucker for Meganes myself) Anywho...that is the review for this week and tomorrow its TsukiPro so I will see you then and take care
