I’m gonna make a tunic first, then do the toga. I just need to figure out how to dye only a specific area of my fabric...
#i wanna make a tunica laticlavia#(tunicam laticlaviam? should i decline it when im using latin words in english??)#bc like idk why not make a senatorial toga and tunic#more fun than like plain ones#but idrk how to dye just stripes on something#i feel like i could use tape to tape off the areas but actually No bc wouldn't the dye just bleed#like i should def research that but ughhhh#i literally have enough canvas laying around from my cloak to make a tunic#like i could make a tunic *today*#and so i am so distraught that i have to first figure out how to dye laticlaves into my fabric#oh and get the right color of dye#like oh man somewhere between purple and red whyy#do i end up going more purple so people actually know they're purple stripes#or more red bc that's what it looked like#sobbing#toga#togae#tunic#tunica#dante dicit#im sorry this is so incomprehensible

“It will be a little short,” I think, planning to make a toga that is 12 feet long.
#it should probably be closer to 15-16 ft#i still can't decide if i want to include a sinus or not though#sinus would help draping look Good but also God no not more fabric#i've also seen two ways to drape it (one where you kinda wrap it around the legs once??) and idk which one to go with#the leg-wrap one looks like a more full-coverage garment and includes a sinus from what i've seen#while the one that just drapes as you'd expect doesn't have a sinus and is a little less long but leaves your legs a little bare#i'll probably go with the no sinus one but then im gonna wear leggings w/ my toga which is a little weird#the leggings are weird not the toga in the first place duh#also i honestly do not know how to add a border to rounded fabric#bc i wanna make a senatorial toga/toga laticlavia but it's like a 2-3 inch border#and togae are curved#so like i'd have to figure that out#and it seems hard#anyway im gonna sew on the border instead of trying to dye it on so at least the tunic/tunica will be easier#this project kinda sucks bc its a whole lot of hemming#i know it's better to make the tunica too big and then make it smaller#but like Noo that'll be such a pain in the ass#bc it's just hemming so much fabric omg#toga#togae#dante dicit
