i am so exhausted of all the d20 non-main-cast seasons and tbqh not at all interested in any different-dm seasons either.
i understand d20 is an anthology series and they can do whatever they want with the show. so maybe this is just me having strong preferences i need to reckon with. that said, here i go:
i was able to tolerate the in between non-main-cast seasons (edit: tolerate is too harsh a word, most of the non-main-cast seasons ive enjoyed!) because i knew the next season would be the main cast with our main dm. but now there’s no such certainty. having season after season being a different assortment of non-main-cast players is not at all appealing to me. and if im honest, i kind of feel used. like d20 lured me in--here is our amazing dm and here are our players with great chemistry and humor--and once they knew i was a loyal watcher went “now we can hold you hostage and throw any ol’ ttrpg at you with any players and we know you’ll watch it” (except, look! an occasional main-cast member is apart of it, look at this carrot on a stick don’t you want to keep following!).
i understand d20 is very aware of its power as a platform and likes to use its platform to give others a voice (edit: which is a good thing that i support and enjoy) but i don’t think this is the way. or, what i mean to say is, i think theyve done too much.
all of these non-main-cast seasons and back to back non-main-dm seasons (seems like that’s going to be the case for these next couple seasons) feel like, if, say, after a couple seasons into the mcelroy’s dnd podcast they did several seasons without the mcelroys (or, hey, maybe one is in it!). that’s how bizarre it feels to me. we were presented with a cast and a dm and a formula that slapped and then they broke the mold. and i have no super strong attachments to all these other people. i don’t know how to better explain it. it’s like, in the pursuit of giving a voice to others, d20 has lost its founding voice?
maybe it all comes down to the fact that im not interested in watching different people play and i need to simply deal with it.
but i think a better formula would be a consistent pattern. a main-cast season then a non-main cast season. or if theyre going to do more non-main cast than they are main-cast then making a pattern for that so we know what to expect. because right now it feels so inconsistent. like they built a stage and wrote a good play with a good cast but now theyre just passing the mic around to everyone performing a different script each time.
#maybe i am simply a grump who needs to change their expectations but i needed to try to explain how im feeling#im not trying to start discourse. but i am interested in hearing others thoughts. if only to help myself get over this lol#edit: i elaborate on my thoughts more in the replies! and i think it's a bit more eloquent and to the heart of things. this initial post was#def more of an unorganized ramble#and more emotional and strong than i actually feel. i have enjoyed almost all of the non-main cast seasons. some of them im obsessed with#(like the seven and mice and murder). and ‘‘not at all interested in any different-dm seasons’’ feels too harsh. im open to other dms.#i used too strong of language b/c i was feeling a bit too emotion driven and i apologize for that.#J: text#dimension 20

How BTS flirt
Saucy disclaimer: this is for entertainment purposes only and not to be taken as fact! This is my interpretation of the cards!!
Lol this is gonna be a fun one so buckle up and hold on to your socks
Seokjin
Lol oki
I think there's two types of jinnie flirting. Casual fun flirting and flirting because he's actually intrested
When he is actually intrested in someone and is trying to flirt its kinda slow moving and not very obvious
Its little things like, "your hair looks really nice today"
Things that are complements but he means it in a flirty way
He'd probably get a bit frustrated bc his flirting tactics are too subtle
I think he would also flirt by showing things he's intrested or possibly things that he's gathered
Kinda like a peacock
He wants the person he's flirting with to know that he's cool and show them what he has to offer but doesn't want to be... showy
He wants to maintain some kind of poise
But I think its because he's a little too shy to be up front and honest
But oh man when he's having fun and flirting for the fuck of it his whole goal is get everyone in a 10 mile radius flustered
He enjoys seeing people blush (I think its because he doesn't always take true compliments well and wants other people to feel good about themselves)
Jin
My boi
His tactics might be a little... strange.. at times
It's endearing though
And smooth
I wouldn't be surprised if he has a list of mid 2000's pick up lines on hand as a plan b
Yoongi
Legit before pulling any cards I heard "like a penguin"
I can't
Now to the fucking cards
WHY IS HE SO ROMANTIC??
What a soft man
He's a romantic flirt that doesn't use many words because he doesn't have to
You best believe he has coffee orders memorized, take out orders memorized, favorite drink always on hand
You needed something from the store?
He bought it.
Very much service and gifts because he wants to provide and kinda show his worth
"Here's this rock I saw. I know you like them so I figured I'd polish it for you too"
Lol he's wrapped around that pinky so tight
He's also very considerate and aware that unwanted flirting can be creepy and uncomfy so he's very very conscious of how he goes about things
I think flirting like this is almost... healing to him?
I think he really enjoys having someone to take care of (he definitely wants the same in return)
Yoon doesn't flirt. He'd rather be courting some one
Don't get me wrong though
He can definitely flirt and shit like that but its his secret weapon
He's also very confident when he flirts
He prefers flirting to come with no expectations
If anyone gets courted by min yoongi I want to see your stack of "rocks" (idk it could be bracelet charms or snow globes or postcards but I wouldn't be surprised if its actual rocks either)
Hoseok
Oki if you don't want to read some not pg then come back when I say it's safe lol
Hobi you horny mother fucker
Flirting is 100% foreplay
I CAN'T
Kissing is definitely in his flirting book
He flirts and establishes his dominance early on (hobi is a dom fight me)
Very confident in his flirting
LUSTY FUCKER
I get vibes that hobi would 100% fuck on the first date
(Kinky mf)
Omg hobi what a fucking tease too Jesus
Blah blah blah his flirting is foreplay bc he's horny and really wants to fuck.
Istg hobi just wait for a designated 18+ reading
Oki it's safe now
On the off chance that hobi isnt using his ridiculous flirting skills as foreplay
He is still very confident
And slow paced
He's trying to win the war not the battle
He is very push-pull when he flirts
It's with good intentions though
He's just really good with people and sweet talking
Very touchy
Flirting can also be a way for him to sus people out and decide if they are cool or nah
Flirting with hobi can lead to:
A. New best friend
B. Increadibly one night stand
C. The love of your fucking lifeb
D. A failed vibe check
Lowkey hobi would be kinda like wolf... very... driven?
Namjoon
A lot of compliments and just general good vibes
Lots of personal questions
"I bet you're really good at that. You should let me see sometime."
Definitely uses his smile
A lot
Very much the type to keep eye contact and be very attentive to the answers that are given to his questions
Its a wee bit methodical
But not in a weird way
He just wants to know where to go
Lots of emotional intelligence
Probs buys flowers or something cute
Very much reassuring and probably would be most flirty over drinks of some kind (like coffee or fancy wine)
Doesn't always flirt for the sake of romance but its pretty obvious when he is
He's just perfect
He gives complements often just in general and I think he absolutely knows how to use his charms
Very smooth
So so so so so witty
Definitely can get some nice giggles going
The way he flirts is honestly entrancing
We all know he is a fantastic talker
Probably uses a lot of beautiful language
Jimin
Very flirty
Flirty flirty
Also a little flexing involved!!
He'd be dressed to the 9's and very obvious
I definitely see him making everything about the other person
Very much peak libra behavior
He'd definitely feel flirty when he's feeling himself?
Flirting is almost like a first defense
Its easier to control the situation when he's flirting and its something that he loves to do
There's a lot of intelligence here with chim chim
He gets bored easily so flirting with him would be something engaging and intellectual as much as it is fun and laid back
Fancy fucking dinners
Flirty boi would like to have his match
Flirting is a competitive (fun) sport
He'd be a bit more toned down and less flashy if its someone he's actually trying to romance
Very fun and very exciting
Taehyung
Sexc
Think mysterious and cool as fuck
That's his flirting style
Very much must pass his vibe check
Be careful its a test
The way he flirts is by not saying anything about himself
He'd drop bits here and there but he has to make sure that you're worthy tbh
If someone makes it past the vibe check this is when the real flirting begins
He'd be very attentive and almost dedicated?
Like he sees flirting as a stepping stone
This is an investment and flirting would be tailored to the person he's flirting with
He's very intuitive and knows what people need
Very very very delacate
Also he might seem a bit intense when he flirts but its not necessarily a bad thing
Homie be regal at first but once he's comfy and is sure that they're compatible then he'd be way more inviting and open and giggly
Oh god he'd be the giggliest flirt on the whole planet
Also very considerate of boundries
Jungkook
Lol
He'd only really be comfy flirting if there isn't anyone else around
Very blushy
Kinda soft ngl?
It's cute soft and shy but he also has very strong boundaries
Flirting is something that he's not great at?
But he is very very very good at learning so the more he flirts the better he gets
This is an oddly personal journey?
He has to get over some stuff to get rid of some possible anxiety
He's also a little unconventional?
He has his own way of flirting and it'd be very adorable
Things like
"You're hair would be really cool if it was blue. I like it now too. So you should do whatever you like with your hair. Because its yours. And its nice. Yeah"
Its so CUTE
He'd overthink a lot too
What do I say? How do I act?
He'd also maybe throw in a cheeky back touch or two every so often
Shoulder touching too
Its very much like best friend flirting but koo means it as actual flirting
Honestly, if someone notices that koo is flirting with them it'd be best to just take the wheel and take the stress away

please I Am Begging You do that 20 questions for OT3s with AoKagaKuro
asdfgggdfhjkk ok here we go! prepare for Length...
Who sleeps in the middle?
Kuroko. he gets cold the easiest and likes to be smushed between his two giant bfs. he’s also often the peacekeeper stopping them from kicking each other and stealing the blankets. they both get their share of his ice cold toes and fingers that way, and he’s such a light sleeper that once they’re in that position neither of them can move for fear of waking him up, but none of them would have it any other way.
Who is the best cuddler?
Kagami. he’s like a giant snuggly teddy bear, gives the very best hugs and is always the big spoon no matter who he’s cuddling with. and he’s okay with that. in fact he loves it, whether he’s holding Kuroko or Aomine or both at once, he loves that he can just wrap around them like an octopus and make them feel safe and loved.
Who gets hurt the most?
Kuroko. Kagami might be the biggest klutz of the three but he also doesn’t bruise easily. meanwhile if Kuroko so much as stubs his toe it turns purple and he’ll be limping for a few days. he’s also the one most likely to get in trouble and get scraped up on purpose, whether he’s skinning his knees trying some new technique he’s not prepared for, or picking a fight and getting decked by someone twice his size, he’s always sporting a new bruise or band-aid and getting chastised by his overprotective bfs who are honestly just as bad... just less likely to show it.
Who acts like the baby?
Aomine. obviously. this guy is an oversized toddler in big boy clothes. he’s always pestering for attention and whines and complains when he doesn’t get his way. he’s a picky eater and can throw actual tantrums if he’s annoyed enough -- and usually the root cause is him not getting enough sleep. he’s also treated like the baby of the family, with both Kagami and Kuroko feeding him and taking care of him, but honestly, neither of them mind it much.
Who teases the others the most?
also Aomine. he’s especially prone to poking and picking at Kagami because he knows just what buttons to press and likes to get him riled up. he can’t seem to resist taunting and provoking him at any given opportunity, and he’s just as quick to tease Kuroko, when he can. the difference is rather than turning red and potentially starting a fight, Kuroko will just coolly sass him right back and move on with his day.
Who proposes?
I’m sorry but I can only see Aomine being the one to propose (or at the very least, being the first one). under the exterior, he’s a useless sappy romantic and would probably either insist on doing things proper, buying a pair of rings and getting down on one knee and all, OR randomly blurting it out during dinner with no planning or preparation or anything. either way, of course they both say yes.
Who is the most protective?
Kuroko. looks are 100% deceiving here, he’s physically the smallest but mentally and emotionally, he’s the toughest of the three and he’ll go to the ends of the earth to defend the people he loves. he would absolutely put himself in danger to protect the others and worries about both of them a lot (sometimes needlessly, but there are times they do need it). Kagami and Aomine both put up a tough act, and follow Kuroko around like his personal bodyguards, but don’t be fooled, he’s the one you need to really watch out for.
Who is the closest to the child? (Whether it be a fur baby, scale baby, or human child.)
either Aomine or Kuroko... probably both equally. they’re very emotionally-driven people who love animals of all shapes and sizes (Kagami would have some trouble if their fur baby happened to be a dog -- and considering Nigou that’s a very likely possibility). both of them would form a strong connection with any baby the group decided to have. that’s not to say Kagami wouldn’t also be close to a child or pet and love them, but he’s just a little bit more distant and guarded than the others and it would definitely take him some time.
Who gives the best advice?
Kuroko. he’s (usually) the only one with a brain cell to speak of, and has a lot of practical knowledge and common sense. he has difficulty separating his emotions from a situation to look at it objectively, so he can be a little biased with what he suggests, but it’s still good advice, just the same.
Who is like a therapist?
Kagami. unlike Kuroko, he doesn’t always know what to say or what to suggest, but he is a good listener, and easy to talk to, so he lets the others vent to him and work through their issues, and often finds himself on the receiving end of a long and cathartic story or rant from one or both of them. he’s also much better at looking at things objectively; nine times out of ten he’ll bluntly point something out that makes the others look at things from a new angle, because it’s so obvious to him as an outsider but they’re too wrapped up to see it.
Who sings B and C to sleep?
Kagami. I hc that he can sing in three different languages (English, Japanese and some Spanish), the others especially like when he sings in English, and he indulges them since he’s probably going to be up the latest anyway. sometimes Kuroko also tries his hand at a lullaby, but he doesn’t have the instant power to knock Aomine out that Kagami does.
Is the relationship healthy?
I mean... is any relationship completely, 100% healthy? as relationships go, they have a very good balance between them and there’s a mutual, three-way respect that they all maintain with each other. they’ve got problems and character flaws, of course, they’re very different people and things aren’t always going to be perfect, but they love each other and are all willing to put in the work when it comes down to it.
Do A and B have a stronger bond with each other? Or do C and B or C and A have a stronger bond? Or are A, B, and C close together [equally]?
they’re all close with each other in different ways. not necessarily equally all around, just... their individual relationships within the greater whole have different strengths and shortcomings. It breaks down something like this:
Kagami and Kuroko are probably the most stable with each other. there’s trust and affection and good communication between them, and they’re on very equal footing. the trouble is, because they usually work together so well, they’re not very good at reconciling when they don’t, and things can build up between them that they don’t acknowledge until their whole balance crumbles.
Aomine and Kagami are in tune with each other in a way that’s almost instinctive, they finish each other’s sentences and seem to always be on the same wavelength. they don’t require much from each other, and have a kind of simple ease in each other’s company, when they aren’t getting in each other’s faces. the downside is they aren’t very good at communicating, and tend to avoid difficult subjects and saying what they really mean.
Aomine and Kuroko have history, are probably the most sappy and romantic with each other, and share an almost indescribably intimate bond built up over years, but they’re also the most likely to argue (not just petty squabbling like Aomine and Kagami, or old-married-couple bickering like Kagami and Kuroko, but actually fight and hurt each other). they’re also terrible about enabling and egging each other on and probably get into the most ridiculous situations because they’re somehow the best and worst combination of personality traits at the same time.
Who can be trusted to be left home alone?
Kagami. he’s the only one. do not leave either of the others home alone they will burn the house down, either accidentally or as a result of getting bored and thinking “I wonder what happens if...” (famous last words).
Who cries the most?
Kuroko, by default. he cries about as much as any normal, healthy person would. Kagami doesn’t cry hardly ever, to the point that it’s a little concerning sometimes, and when he does it’s a Big Deal. Aomine cries every now and then, but doesn’t really feel comfortable doing it in front of other people so he’ll usually try to hide it or hold it in.
Who is the softest?
like... physically, or emotionally? you know what, Kagami for both. he’s a great big softy under the tough exterior, and even though he’s the most physically jacked, he’s got enough meat on his bones to have some nice give and be very comfy to lie on.
Who is the shortest?
Kuroko. ....we been knew.
Who is the tallest?
Aomine. again we been knew; he’ll hold that little 2cm sliver of height he’s got on Kagami over his head until the end of time.
Who likes cuddles the most?
Aomine. he will seek out cuddles every chance he gets, he flops down next to both of the others and nudges them like a cat, or just muscles his way into their space until they have to accommodate him or risk falling off the couch.
Last of all, who sings terribly in the shower?
oh dear god. you know what, I think it’d be really funny if it was Kagami. it’s boggling because he can sing perfectly well, they all know it, but for some reason when he’s alone and using the body wash as a microphone he lets loose and goes completely off-key and it’s awful. the others love it though (even if they’re confused) because it sounds like he’s having fun, at least.

The ABCs of Gavin (NSFW)
In honour of the Aerial Sweetheart™’s birthday on July 29th, please enjoy Gavin’s NSFW ABCs! 🥳
Warning: NSFW/18+: Explicit/graphic language - reader discretion is advised.
A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)
Gavin will pull you against his chest to hold you close, pressing his forehead against yours and planting soft kisses on your face, your sweat merging together as your heart rates slow as one
While you’re washing up, Gavin will quickly fly to get your favourite eats and be back even before you’ve stepped out of the shower
B = Body part (Their favourite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
Gavin is particularly proud of his abs. Have you seen them? They’re absolutely delicious. Go ahead and trace the muscles with your tongue. He’s more than happy to let you.
The real reason he likes them is that he loves the look of utter desire that comes over your face whenever he takes off his shirt. He loves the way you see him.
Gavin finds the nape of your neck absolutely irresistible
Every time you sweep your hair to one side or gather it into a ponytail, his gaze is instantly drawn to that delicate area, his eyes following the lines of your body as they curve out gracefully into the slope of your shoulders
He loves to press soft kisses to the nape of your neck, hold you close from behind to nuzzle his face into the area and inhale deeply, relishing the tickle of your soft strands against his cheeks
C = Cum (Anything to do with cum)
Nothing makes Gavin happier than the thought of you one day carrying his child, so he loves to give you that creampie (don’t worry, he would totally ask for your consent first!)
Outside of cumming in you, Gavin also enjoys ejaculating on your stomach while imagining it swollen with his seed
D = Dirty Secret (Pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
Gavin has curated quite the collection of porn (and the protagonist always bears some physical similarity to you)
The Aerial Sweetheart™ has had to amass material to help maintain his sanity during extremely long dry spells while he was patiently waiting to reconnect with you
He was extremely embarrassed when you first found out (you’ve never seen anyone turn that red), but now the two of you love tuning in together, sometimes laughing while critiquing the storylines, which typically involve a delivery girl delivering an empty pizza box (oops! 😉)
E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they’re doing?)
Gavin isn’t particularly experienced, seeing as he’s been waiting for you ever since he first laid eyes on you in that downpour as a high schooler
The officer has had a couple of relationships in the past (it was bound to happen, with all the women throwing themselves at him and his super hot body), but they never lasted long because you were always in the back of his mind
BUT that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know what he’s doing — Gavin is driven to pleasure you and keep you more than satisfied in the bedroom/on the rooftop/on his motorcycle
You may be surprised, given that Gavin doesn’t strike you as being particularly talkative, but he is quite communicative during sex (e.g. “Does this feel good? Do you like it when I touch you here?”) - especially when he’s first getting to know your body and preferences well
This sweetheart just really wants to pleasure you and treat you like the queen that you are
F = Favourite Position
Your man is a big fan of the Missionary position, because it gives him the freedom to control the speed and depth of his thrusts (by shifting the position of your legs), but also enables him to see each and every beautiful expression of ecstasy that flits across your face in response to the way he moves within you
This position also allows him to embrace and kiss you just as deeply as he’s fucking you
G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc.)
Gavin tends to be more serious in the moment. He can’t help it: he has wanted you for much of his life and still needs to pinch himself every now and then to make sure he’s not dreaming when you’re lying in his arms
When your feelings run that deep, you’re typically not in the mood to laugh
H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)
The officer is well-groomed and scrumptiously clean
The colours match
I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…)
Sex with Gavin can be so sweet that the man literally has you crying from the sheer force of his passion for you
This officer is a man of action: he communicates with every kiss, every touch, every thrust — his body is telling yours the extent of his love and affection in ways that words never could
Gavin cannot stop kissing you, even when you’re both moaning with ecstasy into each other’s mouths. Expect him to lay soft kisses on your eyelids, trace the angles of your jaw with his lips until they lead them back to yours, already open and waiting for his tongue to slip back in
He loves to gather your hair into his palm and press his lips reverently to the silky strands before deeply breathing in its scent
Gavin finds it incredibly hard to hold back when he sees your tears; hang on tight, because you’ll be in for a rough (and sexy) ride
J = Jack Off (Masturbation headcanon)
On average, the officer will masturbate 2-3 times/week, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on whether or not he’s had the chance to engage in some sexy times with you and how busy he is with his top-secret duties
Gavin would die if you ever found out but…he enjoys setting up a comfortable atmosphere by lighting some scented candles before he touches himself
K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)
Gavin loves to fuck you on the rooftops of buildings
He enjoys the way you cling to him for dear life as he’s propelling you through mid-air
He’s also found that you get incredibly wet when he’s got your skirt hiked up around your waist and your panties in his back pocket, thrusting hard and fast into you from behind as you grip the railing at the ledge, eyes focused on the lights of the city below without actually seeing anything through your haze of ecstasy
Feel free to give voice to your pleasure as loudly as you want — with the wind whipping, no one will hear you, and that’s another reason why Gavin takes you up so high in more ways than one
Also, although it’s a bit small on him now, Gavin has saved his high school uniform and was hoping you did too. Perhaps you could reenact the moment of your first meeting? 😉
L = Location (Favourite places to do the do)
Gavin enjoys his sexual exploits in high places (see Kink above)
Has also been known to lay you out on his motorcycle
To be honest, your apartment is still his favourite place: it’s private, he doesn’t have to feel rushed while making love, but he also loves to learn about you by looking at what you keep close: the dog-eared copy of The Little Prince on your shelf, the bite marks on the caps of your pens, the faded teddy bear from your father that you would never throw out no matter how tattered or torn, the snacks you keep on the tallest shelf in the pantry (and the step stool conveniently located nearby)
M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)
Officer Gavin’s greatest motivation and biggest turn on is your love for him
Nothing gets him harder faster than knowing you desire him like he desires you
Want to really unleash the beast in the bedroom? Tell him he’s the love of your life, your soulmate, that he’s the first thought in your mind when you wake and the one you see in your dreams, because then, Gavin will know he’s not the only one who feels that way
Gavin also loves to see you in his clothes: that loose white tee, his unbuttoned uniform — preferably with nothing on underneath
N = NO (Something they wouldn’t do, turn-offs)
Like the other boys, Gavin refuses to share you with another person (please don’t ask him to, he will die on the inside)
Gavin also shies away from more extreme kinks that may result in bodily injury to you (he can barely bring himself to spank you, and once he does, he’s immediately rubbing the reddened area and soothing it with kisses)
O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
Officer Gavin likes to give as good as he gets
His oral game is strong, but fingering is his specialty
P = Pace (Are they fast and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.)
Gavin can do both
He tends to get fast and rough when you whisper words of love in his ear — it’s like a dam on his emotions breaks and he’s unable to hold back
Note that Gavin will never, ever, be needlessly rough. Never.
Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)
Gavin prefers extended lovemaking sessions, but is also down with quickies (see Kink, above)
R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)
The man is down with experimenting up to a certain extent. As mentioned in “No” above, he draws the line at anything that could cause you bodily harm
Other than that, he’s willing to try new experiences (he’s pretty much willing to do anything for you)
S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…)
Gavin. Is. A. Machine.
He’s ready and willing to go for as many rounds and as long as your body can stand, if you’re up for it
Not gonna lie, he came pretty quickly the first time you had sex, out of sheer excitement (Gavin’s internal monologue: “Oh my god I can’t believe this is actually happening am I really making love to my dream girl omg omg omg…”)
BUT you best believe he ain’t no One-Minute Man (don’t worry, in addition to magic fingers, Gavin also has a habit of going south when transitioning to different positions so things stay nice and wet and comfortable)
T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)
Gavin does not have toys to use on himself. He has scented candles, his imagination (Psst! He’s thinking of YOU) and his hand thankyouverymuch
You know Gavin will pretty much do anything you want, so if you wish to include toys in your sexual repertoire, your man will oblige
Bonus points: take him with you to a sex shop to peruse the goods and watch him grow uncomfortably red
U = Unfair (How much they like to tease)
Gavin’s not really one for teasing, inside or outside of the bedroom
The extent of his teasing will be limited to whipping through the air or going faster on his motorcycle, just to get you to press closer to him
V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make)
The officer tries hard to rein in his volume, but finds it difficult to keep his voice down, especially if his climax is close.
Gavin’s biting his lower lip, breathing hard through his nose, furrowing his brows from a mixture of both ecstasy and concentration, but the odd moan and groan still manages to escape
The sound of his low voice in your ear drives you wild
There have been times when you could’ve sworn you heard Gavin softly whimper when he came
W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice)
Gavin loves your scent so much that he secretly purchased a bottle of the perfume you regularly wear just so he can inhale it deeply and think of you when his longing is particularly bad
He keeps it at the bottom of his underwear drawer please don’t go looking for it
X = X-Ray (Let’s see what’s going on in those pants, picture or words)
Average girth and slightly above-average length, with a slight upward curve
Uncut
Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?)
Gavin’s sex drive is a bit higher than average
Hence, whenever he insists that you cover up in public, it’s to keep himself in check as much as the prying eyes of others
Z = ZZZ (… how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)

thoughts on Voltron s7
this is prolly old hat by now, but I still wanna throw my two cents to the wind. this is gonna get very rambly, and I’m gonna derail A LOT to air out other grievances I have w/ the show/fandom. a rant like this has been a long time coming-- the reception to s7 only pushed me to write this now. so beware, I guess. also I’m not rly tryin to Start Shit, so I’m slottin’ this under the cut
I think I should start at the beginning: I didn’t like Voltron for the first 3 seasons.
it was perfectly passable, but not.... exactly the kinda thrilling saga Tumblr made it out to be. all the hype put me under the impression that VLD was a deeply emotional/character-driven story much like ATLA-- I was sorely disappointed to find this wasn’t the case. instead, I found a typical space-mecha plot populated by pretty tropey characters-- certainly not bad, but not all that emotionally gripping either
I actually grew p bitter over Voltron’s particular brand of popularity-- mainly the comparisons to ATLA, as if VLD was anywhere as deep and clever. I wasn’t mad that it was popular so much as it seemed popular for the wrong reasons
now I’m not saying that enjoying VLD is “childish” or whatever, I’m just saying that comparing VLD to ATLA is p damn insulting, imo. ATLA has a level of depth in plot, worldbuilding, themes, character arcs/interactions, etc. that’s incredibly impressive-- esp for a kid’s show. u just don’t get that depth from VLD-- and honestly, that’s just fine! I know I’m singing ATLA’s praises to the heavens here, but I’m also kinda sick of Tumblr trying to compare every damn thing to ATLA, as if every piece of media HAS to be another ATLA to be worthy of praise (like the whole “Zuko redemption arc” thing has been taken wayyyyy too far when critiquing villains...)
ATLA and VLD aren’t trying to accomplish the same things, so it’s kinda shitty to place those kinda expectations on the creators of VLD when they’re trying to do their own thing? like, I don’t expect Osomatsu-san-- a very stupid show I deeply adore-- to be the next FMA just b/c both shows have a focus on brotherly bonds; they’re clearly two separate things that I can enjoy for different reasons
anyways, to cut that ramble short, VLD just wasn’t my thing when I first started it. I’m not big on mechas, and I typically prefer pointed storylines over ‘adventure-of-the-week’ setups. not that VLD doesn’t have some underlying plot for the first couple seasons, but it takes a while to get past random villain fights and/or adventures every ep and condense it into a continuous plot thread. some ppl like that kinda thing, I just don’t. the reason I continued to watch it-- despite my misgivings-- is b/c I like watching things with friends. my bf has always liked VLD and wanted me to see it, so I enjoyed watching it with our audience of two
I’m glad this setup forced me to continue watching, or else I would have never reached the turning point-- episode 33 (s3): “The Legend Begins”
this was the point at which my feelings switched from “eh” to “oh... OH. OH SHIT.” I’d finally started to get INVESTED. I finally began to develop real attachments to the characters! I was finally eager to learn what happened next; finally perched at the edge of my seat in anticipation! VLD had finally found its footing and solidified its unique voice, and I couldn’t have been more proud!
yet, what did I hear from the fandom as this narrative transition began?
“the show has gone downhill, and it’s only getting worse!″, "[x] characters aren’t developing anymore” and/or “the showrunners HATE [x] character!”, etc. etc.
though I suppose it’s a bit simplistic to say the fandom as a whole thought this way; in reality, just a vocal subset of the fandom thought-- and continues to think-- this way
yes, patient reader, this is one of those conversations. because we really can’t have a proper fandom discussion anymore w/o getting into those topics, can we? god, if only
so I’ll stop beating around the bush: antis fucking hate the new seasons, mainly because:
1) a lot of antis love Lance for some reason? antis don’t like the fact that Lance isn’t, like, the entire damn focus of the show (calls for “black paladin Lance” galore....), so they don’t like the fact that other main characters play significant roles in the show. this has devolved into unfounded critique of Lance’s character development in the last few seasons, when in reality Lance has gotten SIGNIFICANT development from s4 onward (just like most every other character..). he’s gotten more confidant in his abilities and is less defensive of his character, he’s more cooperative w/ his teammates, and he’s learned to (usually) recognize when a situation requires a serious approach rather than nonchalance. like, as someone who doesn’t much like Lance, I think it says something that my feelings have advanced from, “jesus I can’t stand this guy, can he shut up for one goddamn second,” to, “nice, Lance is mostly bearable and sometimes charming, now.” this point bleeds into the next point--
2) a lot of antis LOVE klance-- or the ship Keith/Lance, for any random readers that don’t know the Voltron fandom. klantis-- as these particular antis have been dubbed-- hate ANY semblance of connection either of these characters have w/ other characters, b/c it threatens klance. Keith and Lance both canonically have strong connections to other specific characters (Keith to Shiro, and Lance to Allura), so these ships are the most threatening to klance
now, all stans/shippers have fans that are a bit too defensive, sure. I’m not saying that sheiths (Shiro/Keith shippers) or any other stans/shippers in VLD aren’t ever at fault. but antis always ALWAYS bring an insidious dimension to fandom wank in the form of-- for lack of a better term-- “social justice posturing”
I’m not claiming that discussions abt representation and sj issues in fandom aren’t important, but antis always take these sensitive issues and simply use them as ammo in what are typically giant ship wars. there’s no nuance, no room for different interpretations-- only black/white divisions of what is “valid”/”canon”/”acceptable”, which are then strategically warped in favor of what the antis of that particular fandom favor (which, in the case of VLD, is Lance/klance)
of course, not ALL VLD antis are specifically out to discredit just one ship, as evidenced by the proliferation anti-shaladins (those against shippers of Shiro w/ ANY of the paladins). BUT this is exactly where anti tactics are utilized in full-force, and where this petty ship war further devolves:
antis fucking HATE Shiro.
Shiro poses the biggest threat to klance (at least in terms of fandom, b/c Allura canonically poses a much bigger threat tbh), thus antis have steadily built a “case” against Shiro not only as a bad partner to Keith, but as a bad character in general. the more “reasonable” antis claim things like, “Shiro’s too mentally ‘broken’ to be with anyone!” “Shiro’s too old to be with anyone, he’s practically a grandpa!” and, “Shiro’s too much of a parental/guardian figure to consider any paladins as potential partners,” while more extreme antis have claimed that Shiro literally IS a pedophile, or straight-up dangerous due to his mental hang-ups
there is clearly a lot wrong here both canon-wise (Shiro has shown 0% confirmable attraction to any character in canon; everyone’s actual ages are vague at best, thus there are no exact age gaps to measure, etc.) and in terms of plain ethics (callin a guy w/ ptsd “too broken” fuckin WHAT). but this is what antis have devolved to-- dismissing Shiro’s mutual connections to his fellow paladins at best, then accusing him of straight-up horrific shit at worst. all in the name of protecting a ship. boy howdy.
(*SIDENOTE* I hypothesize that Allura doesn’t get nearly the same level of hate b/c mlm ships are favored in fandom, thus there are more sheith shippers than allurance (Allura/Lance) shippers to oppose klance. she may also be protected by Tumblr’s over-the-top glamorizing of any and every female character, but that’s a rlyyyy weird discussion that’s hard to quickly/accurately dissect, so I’ll just leave that particular hypothesis to the side..)
anyways, patient reader, let us return this tangent back to the original point: the general criticisms directed at s4 and onward. how do antis relate to this?
well, it’s real fuckin convenient that ppl suddenly started recognizing VLD’s writing/plot/etc. flaws when the show wasn’t catering quite AS much to Lance, or Lance/Keith interactions. real fuckin convenient ppl suddenly started criticizing Shiro as a character when said character’s relationship w/ Keith began to gain more focus and development. real fuckin convenient that ppl are finally recognizing that VLD isn’t as great as ATLA, when the last few seasons have gotten PRETTY DAMN CLOSE to ATLA’s level of emotional depth
so I’m bitter abt Voltron again. but rather than being bitter abt VLD being popular for the wrong reasons, I’m bitter that VLD’s flaws are finally being recognized for the wrong fucking reasons
and this is where it gets real fucking dangerous, b/c antis are dangerously persuasive to the general fandom public
since antis use sj language as ammunition for petty-ass shit, they can easily gain the attention of... god, I hate that I have to unironically use this term, but Tumblr “normies”. I literally have no better, simple term to describe somebody on Tumblr who hasn’t watched VLD (or simply hasn’t engaged in the fandom in a significant way), so please just roll w/ me here, for my own sanity. so Tumblr normies-- as those on Tumblr are prone to-- are vigilant in keeping up w/ sj issues across the board. this is good! it’s good to be aware of and critical of the content we consume..... until it’s. not.
I’m not the first to say that Tumblr has a very warped, very dangerous approach to sj activism. much like full-on antis, there is so much black/white thinking, lack of nuance, swift and unforgiving retribution for even slightly differing opinions, etc etc. it’s why so many ppl on Tumblr even ARE antis, b/c it’s rly just the fandom-offshoot of this mentality
but even beyond the most extreme “activists” of tumblr, anti’s sj language is dangerously appealing to even the chill normies-- nobody WANTS to support dangerous relationships or bad representation, after all! so they latch onto that rhetoric too, b/c when normies see antis' (usually unfounded) criticisms thrown around, they don’t know the show/fandom well enough to be able to verify those criticisms. and like, I get the appeal of it-- I’ve def made similar mistakes w/ unfamiliar fandoms as well, b/c I want to support a cause that seems just. it’s p natural to want to align w/ what we perceive as a just cause, esp when convinced by a persuasive speaker
thus, antis have gained a significant following of normies due to the simple fact that Tumblr normies DO care abt sj issues, but they DON’T care enough to research the show themselves to see what’s what
so, let me quickly recap the stage I’ve set for you here:
1) the fandom in general has given Voltron more credit than is due, and has subsequently placed ridiculous expectations on it. this has given Tumblr normies a false impression of VLD and its standards
2) antis are SUPREMELY protective of klance (and Lance in general), and have thrown around WILD accusations at any ships that threaten it, leading to--
3) antis throwing Shiro under the bus time and fucking time again.
4) by abusing sj language/tactics, antis appeal to Tumblr normies’ sense of duty, thus gain their approval in ganging up on whatever antis deem unjust in VLD-- whether it’s actually valid or not
so fuckin forgive me for being a bit skeptical when I heard rumors of “bury your gays” in Voltron from antis/normies, when these same ppl are actively throwing around accusations of pedophilia in the name of goddamn shipping
but I’ll fully admit, I passed judgement on this criticism a bit too quick, considering I hadn’t even seen the new season yet. it’s never good to blindly accept opinions purely on the basis that they bolster ur own assumptions, and I’m not immune to that charming trap (tho thankfully I’m not typically a vocal member fandom, so I was mostly just nodding along w/ my fellow shieths asdfg)
so finally, dear reader, we reach the actual point of this post: after seeing s7 for myself, what even ARE my opinions on it?
well. the handling of Adam and his relationship to Shiro............... wasn’t great. it was pretty fuckin terrible, actually. despite all I’ve said against antis, I agree w/ their general view that Adam’s relationship w/ Shiro (and his subsequent death) was shoddy, underdeveloped, and disrespectful to some degree. I’m personally not sure it’s worth the title of “bury your gays” for several different reasons, but I wouldn’t fault someone for calling it that, b/c there are definitely several other reasons that reinforce that trope. it’s worth discussing, and definitely worth voicing criticisms towards, esp in terms of Dreamworks’ “lgbt rep” advertising before s7′s release (which was absolutely scummy, there’s just no other word for it)
so if I agree w/ antis’ basal complaints in this instance, then why the hell am I even talking abt this? why am I putting so much effort into dissecting the fandom, only to essentially reach the same conclusion as those I fundamentally disagree with?
well, I suppose it’s all abt the framing.
I’m not gonna link the post b/c, again, I Don’t Wanna Start Shit, but most of y’all have prolly seen that one post that breaks down the history of the “bury your gays” trope, and how it was possibly utilized in VLD. it’s a p good argument in that respect-- I think it hits the main points of how/why Adam and his relationship w/ Shiro was just plain Bad
and to the untrained “normie” eye, that’s all it is. however, there is a cryptic framing present that reinforces anti talking points, which only someone involved in the fandom would recognize.
(*SIDENOTE* I don’t mean to pick on SPECIFICALLY this post, I just think it’s a nice rundown of a few of the main rhetorical tactics used by antis. it’s certainly not a unique post in the fandom, but merely a good example of this brand of posts)
for one, this post forces an emotional distance between Shiro and the paladins. this post INSISTS that Shiro can ONLY be interpreted as a guardian character that can’t relate to the other paladins in any significant way due to age gaps and traumatic experience. THUS, according to antis, Adam was the only person that Shiro could have intimately discussed his problems w/ b/c they’re the same age and have a history. Adam's death removed this potential confidante, thus leaving Shiro to sort out his issues alone
while I agree that it would have been nice to see Shiro chat w/ a new character he has a history with (esp considering we rly haven’t gotten much backstory on Shiro yet), so much of this argument is simply false
I’ve already mentioned the bullshit that is the vague age gaps, but even if we were to take them into account, there ARE characters who are assumedly at or over Shiro’s age: Coran and Allura. and yeah, Coran is prolly not the best choice in terms of real emotional connection, but Allura? she could prolly fuckin relate. Shiro’s had his body and autonomy violently violated by the Galra, to the point that his original body is now destroyed; Allura has had her culture and people violently violated by the Galra, to the point the her original planet/culture is now destroyed. Shiro is/was a leader to the paladins, and takes their collective failures to heart as his personal failures to his team; Allura is a literal princess to her people, and takes their downfall as a personal reflection of her lack of ability to protect them. their situations obviously shouldn’t be 1:1 conflated, but to say they have no points of relation here is fuckin insulting
but since age gaps like this mean JACK SHIT when it comes simply developing emotional connections and mutual respect, we don’t even need to go so far as to match ages! this is evidenced by actual intimate interactions Shiro has had with the paladins!
the first one that comes to mind even involves antis’ favorite-- Lance! episode 45 (s5): “The White Lion” involved a moment where Shiro approached Lance on his own and opened up abt his mental health, saying he, “didn’t feel like himself.” now it could be argued that this was Shiro’s clone-- not Actual Shiro-- approaching Lance for help. tho I firmly believe that are still true parts of Shiro present in his clone, even if he’s not fully there. the clone is still protective of his team (before his mind is COMPLETELY hijacked, of course), and I believe any connections/loyalty/trust Shiro has towards the paladins is still true for the clone (even if this can, once again, be forcibly overridden). this moment is Shiro-- the part of Actual Shiro that’s present in his clone-- approaching a fellow teammate for help. of course, Lance doesn’t know exactly what to do in this situation, but he at least stays w/ Shiro for support
and then of course there are all the great moments Shiro has w/ Keith that antis want to forget abt. moments where Keith has laid down his health and safety for Shiro, moments where Keith has barred his soul to Shiro, moments where Keith has done everything in his power to reach out to a hurt and struggling Shiro. moments where Keith has made it ABUNDANTLY fucking clear that he’s here to the bitter end, that he’ll NEVER give up on Shiro. it literally doesn’t fucking matter if u interpret these scenes as platonic or romantic, b/c the fact of the matter is that Shiro and Keith care DEEPLY abt each other in some shape or form. disregarding that is forcibly ignorant. also, we've now confirmed that Keith and Shiro do have a HISTORY back at the Garrison together before all this Voltron nonsense started (even if it isn’t necessarily a romantic history), so Keith also has that leg up
the subtle framing of Shiro as STRICTLY a “guardian” character is also a classic anti tactic, as it implies a sort of pseudo-pedophilic undertone to any Shiro/paladin ships, which is just.... gross and dishonest. yes, he’s canonically a leader to the paladins, and oftentimes takes on a guardian-type role, but once again, he also canonically opens up to other paladins on a mutually respectful/intimate level. there’s nothing in canon that would strictly suggest he’s ONLY a guardian figure-- “space dad” is a fandom interpretation in the same way that framing him as Keith’s lover is a fandom interpretation. neither is more or less 'canon', and it's petty to suggest otherwise
another weird point in that post is the insistence that Shiro is a “tragic gay character”, which is just..... not fucking true, first of all. he’s definitely suffered the most out of any main character, I agree, but he’s GETTING THROUGH IT. he’s been pulled through it by the paladins, and he’s learning to use his own strength to pull through as well. he’s so incredibly fuckin strong and it’s a fuckin shame that ppl don’t see how inspirational he is to those that may be struggling emotionally. plus, he's never suffered BECAUSE he's gay, nor has he ever had a damn HINT of queer-coding until Adam was shoehorned in (which is its own separate problem w/ the show, but it's not a "tragic gay" problem)
but beyond all that is an even more subtle insistence that Shiro has always been a beloved character to ALL in the fandom. antis’ underlying implication that, “hey normies, Shiro-- our beloved Space Dad-- has been given the shit end of the stick, and u should be mad abt it too!”
as if antis haven’t spent the last several years shitting on Shiro at every turn, saying he’s got “scrambled egg brains” b/c of his ptsd, and other horrific shit. the fact that they can turn around to “defend Shiro’s honor” now that he’s *confirmed queer* (and, initially, confirmed less of a threat to klance due to Adam) and STILL be taken seriously is goddamn terrifying
like I am literally seeing posts like this-- IN 20FUCKIN18-- that normies are taking at face value and reinforcing:
to any normies reading this: SHIRO AND KEITH AREN'T FUCKING RELATED!! racist antis insist that they have to be related b/c they're both Asian and the second half of their last names (Shirogane and Kogane, respectively) are similar. I'm literally so baffled over how this tactic is ever taken seriously, but who fuckin knows I guess. and if antis are trying to make a case for adoptive siblings, Keith canonically met Shiro by at LEAST his early/mid teens-- LONGGGG past the developmental age of youth where he might latch onto another person as a strictly non-romanceable relative, so. No. fandom is free to interpret Keith and Shiro’s relationship as brotherly, but to say that that is the STRICT and true 'canon' interpretation of their relationship is, once again, fuckin petty and dishonest
just. how fuckin DARE antis act like they give a SINGLE goddamn shit abt Shiro’s emotional needs and trauma after pullin this shit. how fuckin DARE antis misuse real sj issues to appeal to the lowest common denominator in normies, looking for fodder to fuel the flames of hate
so, if I may be so bold as to utilize one of antis' many battlecrys: this discussion does not exist in a vacuum. Adam's shoehorned relationship w/ Shiro is shitty and worth criticism, absolutely. but brushing aside the fandom history driving the resulting uproar-- as if ship wars aren't HUGELY influencing this backlash-- is SUPREMELY fuckin ignorant
antis latched onto Adam HARD when he was first announced, despite all the signs he'd be a side character at best, that he was stated clearly to be Shiro's ex, and having no context for his personality. Adam was antis' newest shield to their ship-- somebody to take Shiro's romantic potential away from Keith, thus leaving Keith open to Lance. Adam's death eliminated that shield, leaving antis reeling-- they couldn't just jump right back into hating Shiro after having showered his newly-christened gay ass w/ praise for all of the Tumblr normies to see. so, their anger was tactically redirected towards Adam's development
there is nothing shocking abt any of this tbh. all antis is the same, and they're all bitter assholes that are completely willing to abuse real sj issues for their own goals. plain and simple.
I don't rly have a proper ending for this. I'll just say that I like s7 a helluva lot, and Adam’s shitty development doesn’t rly phase me? not everyone feels that way, which is valid, I just don’t particularly give a shit abt Adam. I have hope for s8-- esp in terms of potential development for Shiro. since Shiro got such heavy focus in s6, it makes sense that he was pushed to the sidelines a bit this season to leave room for the other characters (Keith, Lance, Commander Holt + Earth stuff in general, etc.) to develop and shine. I've heard rumors that Adam did in fact have more development that was cut, which I'm honestly willing to believe b/c the development we got felt cut short, rather than simply planned that sparsely in the first place. my hope is that s8 will return some focus to Shiro, and possibly slot in some of these cut scenes to bolster a better backstory to their relationship? pure speculation tho, and it doesn't rly excuse Adam's treatment in s7, but it's worth considering
before I completely end off here, I just want to go on one last FINAL tangent: I'm so damn disappointed that everyone is sleeping on kexa (Keith/Acxa)??? if anything it poses MUCH more canon threat to BOTH klance and sheith purely b/c it's 'safely hetero' and b/c the show itself has hinted at potential feelings there (“She’s always been sweet on that one with the flippity hair,” and “Oh look Acxa, it’s your favorite paladin~”). like I haven't seen antis OR sheiths even mention this, it's baffling. the fact that it'll prolly be canon is bittersweet for me: bitter b/c DAMN I love sheith, and sweet b/c damn.... I'm rly diggin kexa....
so the moral of this post is: blease appreciate Keith's beautiful goth gf, she deserves love
thank u and goodbye

( MICHELLE CHAE’s LIFE IN VIGNETTES ● FROM 1999 → PRESENT )
SCENE I. VALLEY GLEN, CA — Q4, 2007. UNDISCLOSED ICE SKATING RINK.
“She’s a natural on the ice; it’s incredible to me how quickly she picked things up. Has she ever done this before?” The instructor queries as she gazes out at Michelle; watching closely as she finds her balance and gains more confidence the longer that she can stay upright. Never having realized how graceful she is, she aligns her small limbs beautifully to assist in her glides—merely understanding how to hold her posture for better balance. “Y’know, you should really consider getting her a proper coach. It’s not often that a kid just... knows how to control themselves out there.”
Her mother listens, then nods; letting each suggestion sink in before responding. “Well, if she likes it, then we’ll have to consider it...” It’s a simple response that she hopes suffices, and while she would want nothing more than to support her daughter in discovering what she excels at, she can’t help but think about the money in the family bank account—and how it’s nowhere near as high as it should be given the amount of people in their household.
“Look, mom!” The little one yells from the center of the rink, being brave enough to raise one of her legs into an arabesque while she skates; somehow not tumbling over in the process. It’s in that moment when the instructor cheers, gobsmacked at the progress. “See what I mean?” It’s a lot to consider, especially as Heesun knows the cost of putting a child through such a rigorous training regiment. It’s not only paying out-of-pocket for the materials needed or making sure the coach is paid what their worth, but it’s also long hours practicing and grueling schedules. How on earth any child can sustain that while also attending school is unheard of to her, but all at once, she notices how wide Michelle smiles as she coasts, and it warms her heart.
“Do you have any recommendations? I can’t really afford to pay an arm and a leg for it at this time, but if it’s within reason, I think it would be good for her... so long as it doesn’t get in the way of her studies.” Nodding, her teacher guides her mother into her office, but that doesn’t stop the rising figure skater from continuing. Little does she know, she’s falling in love.
SCENE II. BOSTON, MA — Q1, 2014. THE TD GARDEN, ARENA.
“You’re going to do a great job! We’ve been practicing a lot, your routine is great, and even if I’m hard on you sometimes, I’m still really proud of you!” Her coach urges, and she nods, but she’s not really paying attention to anything that she’s saying. Instead, her eyes turn backwards to the bleachers—doing her best to see if her father had arrived to join her mother in the audience. It’s literal milliseconds before she’s set to take to the ice, but so far, there’s no sight of him. Back at home, he’s her biggest cheerleader, but whenever it comes to showing up at important events, he constantly fails, and unfortunately, that’s not his only flaw either. Now that she’s gotten a little bit older, Michelle understands why her mom and dad don’t talk much, even if it’s only recently that they all sit in silence at the dinner table.
Right on time, the announcer calls her name and she rises; gliding over to her mark. She’s upset knowing that he’s not in attendance, but she does her best to suppress all of her emotions.
Like coach always says: “Now’s not that the time for that.”
Taking a deep breath, she easily finds her opening pose and holds it strong; powerful. So many thoughts race through her mind in that instant. She thinks about the choreography she’s spent months learning. She thinks about the plans that her mother made for after they’re done at the rink. She thinks about her dad and what he’s up to... and right then, almost as if to snap her out of her trance, the music starts pounding through the speakers—muscle memory kicking into high-gear to guide her through each detailed motion. It’s a release of her emotions through her body, and it’s in these moments where she feels the most free.
What’s unfortunate is that this rush of adrenaline never lasts as long as she’d like it to, and only after a few minutes, she’s back to where she began, but now poised in her final position.
Skating back towards her coach, Michelle takes her seat once more; a blanket draped softly over her shoulders for warmth. When her scores are revealed, they’re the same as always: fair. While she’s typically relieved to sit pretty in the middle, today, she responds negatively to them; feeling as though all of her hard work didn’t add up to a well-deserved win.
She also blames her father for promising that he’d finally make an appearance as her official “good luck charm” only to forsake her yet again.
Michelle spends the rest of that evening pensively staring out of windows; text messages arriving from her dad—all apologizing for not being able to make his flight after work.
SCENE III. VALLEY GLEN, CA — Q3, 2016. ULYSSES S. GRANT HIGH SCHOOL.
STUDENT A: “Gross... she comes across as so desperate, like...” STUDENT B: “I don’t understand what guys see in her, she’s obnoxious!” STUDENT C: “Yeah like, she still acts like she’s in seventh grade.” STUDENT D: “Hey, wait—didn’t she used to figure skate?” STUDENT A: “That’s right! I heard she had to stop ‘cause she’s broke now.” STUDENT D: “Desperate, cheap, slutty... guess that’s Michelle Chae for ya.”
—
Dad started to sell their personal belongings in order to feed his newly discovered habit. Mom was driven wild. It didn’t take long for things to explode, and with the end of their relationship came a screeching halt to Michelle’s figure skating career. With her father no longer being an active part of her life, she and her mother barely made end’s meat—barely seeing one another due to the lengthy hours they both worked to pay the bills. She’s only seventeen and instead of saving money for college, she puts every penny towards supporting her family. She spends so much time being responsible that she deeply sacrifices any personal pleasures and friendships.
Then again, it’s not like people at school are clamoring to get to know her.
From an early age, she knew that she got along better with boys as opposed to girls. In truth, Michelle spent a lot of time around other figure skaters ( most of which were female ) that often treated her poorly, so she’s learned not to really trust members of the same sex easily. Most of the time, those “friendships” turned into gross competitions, camaraderie devolved into petty rivalries, and honestly, she absolutely fucking hated it.
In her heart of hearts, she knows that it’s not good to alienate herself from other girls, and it’s something she works on, but at the same time, because of her close friendship with many of her school’s male students, some of her peers refer to her as a “whore” and a “slut,” and sadly, this label has stuck with her since middle school. Some say that she’s too sweet which makes her “easy.” Others say she’s fake and has stolen many boyfriends—which isn’t accurate at all.
Honestly, Michelle has ever understood the rumors. If boys gave her their attention and made her feel special, why should she be “burned at the stake” for engaging with them? For simply finding pleasure in their gazes; their touches? Instead of being embraced by the frigid cool, she’s wrapped up in the strong arms of a lover—that same rush of adrenaline now found in-between bedsheets as opposed to anywhere near a skating rink.
The downside to all of this, though? She falls in love far too easily, and more often than not, her heart ends up broken—and sometimes, it’s all her own fault.
SCENE IV. SEOUL, KR — Q2, 2020. SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY.
“Sorry!” Michelle exclaims, in English, to a passerby she accidentally bumped into—completely lost on her first day. It was her mom’s idea for her to attend school ( for at least two semesters, anyway ) in Seoul, and even though she was really hesitant at first, she thought that it might be a great opportunity to learn more about where she’s from. That, and well, she’d be able to see her grandparents way more often, especially since they’re getting older. That being said, it’s not been an easy transition, and the culture shock is rampant.
Luckily, she knows how to read and write the language, but that’s about as far as it goes. She’s embarrassingly American—her seniors often view her as rude and loud, but she has absolutely no idea about any of the social customs ( and spoiler alert: still doesn’t ) and knows that she fucks up a lot. Despite this, she fails to truly pick up on them, even after she’s been corrected.
After trying to find her first class, she takes a wrong turn and ends up back where she started—and as she groans in annoyance, someone calls out to her from behind; prompting her to turn around. When she sees a slightly older man approach her, she offers a grin, then a sloppy bow.
“Are you talking to me?” She asks, tilting her head gently; curiously. “Yes! I’m sorry to bother, but I think you might be just who I’m looking for!” “I... don’t think I know what you mean?” Michelle questions, a little creeped out.
Later that week, she attends an audition to join an entertainment company, and even though she has never had training in singing or rapping, she miraculously makes it in... and decides then to skip out on her nursing degree in favor of a totally risky once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
That being said, her mom’s going to be beyond livid.
SCENE V. SEOUL, KR — Q1, 2021. BC ENTERTAINMENT HQ.
Having only started training in April of the year prior, it’s not even been one year since Michelle began her training, so when she’s called into the talent manager’s office, she’s not expecting to hear any good news. After all, she’s constantly being told that she’s lacking in comparison to the other trainees, so how on earth could she have earned a chance to début? She knows a girl group’s being formed and that some of the others she’s trained with have already been given slots, and have even recorded promotional singles. Needless to say, she’s not feeling especially confident.
She takes the seat offered to her and does her best to be respectful, and when she’s informed that she’s been selected as a member for their upcoming project, she thought it was a joke.
“What?” She asks, gobsmacked, and the manager further explains why she’s chosen. In essence—well, at least from what she remembers—he said that she has great potential, and her skills in English, her unique vocal color, and willingness to learn are all assets to the group in various fashions. Stunned, all she could do was nod and agree with him; realizing then and there that this is actually happening to her. In what seemed like no time whatsoever, she’ll be standing on-stage as a somebody. She’ll be thrust in front of cameras and made completely vulnerable to the public. Truth be told, she thought she’d be working hard for a few years before getting a chance to become an idol, but now, it’s consuming all of her reality at a rapid pace.
As scared as she is, she hopes that being given yet another rare opportunity will convince her mom that this is a good idea. She also hopes that she’s able to pull off the image that they’ve discussed for her—one that rivals that of Snow White and Alice In Wonderland as far as purity is concerned. It’s no secret that she’s a bit rough around the edges, so she’s terrified.
All she can do now is hold out hope for the best, even if only the worst case-scenarios continue to plague her thoughts lately.

Panels Far, Far Away: A Week in Star Wars Comics 9/5/19
Star Wars prepares for its big finale. Lost Stars releases its second collection of manga. Some Jedi prep to go spelunking in a spooky temple. Star Wars comics! Good ones too!
Star Wars #71 written by Greg Pak and art by Phil Noto
C-3PO rock translator is some of the best stuff in Star Wars right now. I know. I’m as shocked as you are. Greg Pak has tapped into something really unique and strange in Threepio’s philosophical bond with the sentient rock creatures of K43. It makes for some of the most bizarre Star Wars material we’ve gotten in quite a while, but also brings a delightful sense of high fantasy to the space opera. The fact that Pak also uses this plot to touch upon a genuine feeling of uselessness and maybe even resentment within the protocol droid creates for a surprising emotional gut punch. To close it all off with the tease of our poor droid having to serve as a mediator between the rock folks and the Dark Lord himself is great stuff and is enough to sell me on the rest of this arc alone.
But yes, there are still two other stories and yes the fragmented nature of Pak’s arc long plotting still continues to be an issue. Compared to the Threepio stuff, the minor developments in Han, Leia, and Luke’s stories all can’t quite muster the same excitement, wonder, or emotion. Sure, the plan on Lanz Carpo takes a fun turn, but the pacing on this particular story has hit a rut over the last several issues. Luke channeling his inner Chirrut Imwe is also a fun moment and Phil Noto’s visual storytelling here is particularly strong, but it’s a fun set piece and not much more.
In short, status as usual. Greg Pak and Phil Noto’s arc on Star Wars, which we are now learning will be the comic’s last, continues to be a fun, beautiful time with awkward execution. What I’m saying though is that we should be all rock people all the time. I want a love triangle with Threepio, Artoo, and a rock man. I want Threepio becoming a rock Jedi. I want rock people lightsabers. Rock people.
Score: B+
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order- Dark Temple #1 written by Matthew Rosenberg and art by Paolo Villanelli
We get a single player, story driven Star Wars game this fall. That’s still more than a little shocking to think about, especially considering that there hasn’t been one since the not so great sequel to The Force Unleashed back in 2010. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order looks to tell the story of a Jedi fugitive unlocking the secrets of the Force during the height of the Empire. Before we get to step into this world in November, Marvel is introducing us to the past of its supporting cast through a five issue miniseries entitled Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order- Dark Temple, which is more than a mouthful.
Matthew Rosenberg introduces us to a dual narrative. One taking place closer to the game’s present which sees the malevolent Inquisitor, Second Sister, leading a planetary invasion that happens upon a Jedi survivor. Meanwhile, in the past, we follow Padawan Cere Junda as she joins her master Eno Cordova on a mission to observe a newly unearthed temple from the galaxy’s ancient times. While it’s not immediately clear after the first issue how both narratives connect, Dark Temple does a strong job of setting up both stories as entertaining chapters in their own right.
The “cold open” of the Second Sister’s charge towards victory is great spectacle. Paolo Villanelli brings a violent energy to the pages that is both exciting and intimidating. Colorist Arif Prianto creates a dark and foreboding atmosphere that makes the scarlet whir of the Inquisitor’s saber all the more striking. The Second Sister is an imposing and impressive force from the first panel and it is almost a disappointment when we leave these pages behind, the action is just that fun and impressive.
The art never proves quite as strong as is it does in these opening pages, but Cere and her master’s dynamic proves interesting in its own right. Cere’s practical and erratic approach to being a Jedi feels like a familiar trope, but Rosenberg writes her in a way that feels empathetic and relatable. Similarly, the set up for Master Cordova’s archaeological trip is densely plotted and intriguing. Rosenberg manages to fill a great deal of plot into this opening issue and it sets up what could be a fun series to follow.
Score: B
Star Wars: Lost Stars Manga Adaptation Volume 2 written and drawn by Yusaku Komiyama and adapted from the novel by Claudia Gray
With each passing year, Claudia Gray’s debut Star Wars novel, Lost Stars, grows closer and closer to being a classic for the franchise. With its saga spanning narrative and tragic central couple, Gray’s story of two warring lovers has quickly become classic Star Wars. While completely capturing the emotion and scale of Gray’s book is a difficult task, Yusaku Komiyama continues to bring this book to life with its own sense of identity and style.
Komiyama excels at staging and depicting Lost Stars’s story as it heads into its dark second act. As the war heats up and both sides experience incredible losses, the central duo of Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell along with their supporting cast are forced to confront the true nature of the Empire that they have come to serve. Komiyama’s art is best at selling these huge moments of emotional shock and realization. Whether it’s Nash’s horror at seeing his homeworld of Alderaan destroyed, the desolate void of space where the Death Star used to be, or Ciena’s feeling of entrapment by the Empire manifesting itself in metaphorical chains, Komiyama’s creative way of visualizing Gray’s original novel is some of the best comic storytelling you’ll see in a Star Wars book.
There are some rough spots, however. One of Lost Star’s selling points was its Forrest Gump like quality of having its dual protagonists stumble their way through various points in Star Wars history. While it still remains thrilling to see Ciena meet Darth Vader face to face or watchThane fly in the Battle of Hoth, the transitions from these moments feel more than a little clunky and overly episodic in nature. Komiyama struggles in helping the narrative transition from beat to beat and it can lead to a clunky reading experience. Yen Press’s translation is also a bit stilted at times. Not all phrases of dialogue feel natural in their execution here and it’s hard to deny that this likely read much stronger in its original language.
Overall, manga fans, Star Wars fans, and especially those of Claudia Gray’s books are sure to find much to love here and it is definitely worth picking up. Let’s hope that the third and final volume arrives much quicker than this one.
Score: B+

Tru’s Writing Notes
I’ve had people ask me after seeing my feedback on stories if I’m as overanalytical with my own stuff. The answer is yes. My stuff may often be written at 4 AM and typo-laden, but yes.
Because of that and @thesecondsealwrites talking about process (though unlike her post, this is more the why/how than the everyday practicalities of writing), here are some of the notes I’ve left myself in my journal. These apply mostly to the way I write my original rather than my fic, but they can apply to both. Can I add: a lot of these probably seem very obvious, I know, and I don’t always manage to bear them in mind. Also, I’m not a pro or even a talented amateur, and these aren’t addressing an audience, they’re addressing me - and they apply more to the way I write than writing in general. But if anyone might find this interesting or wants to know if I worry about my writing, here’s your answer.
People tend to like a strong story, with good reason. The best plots tend to be simple, and then you build outwards and maybe twist. A compelling central arc, certain genre tropes or something familiar tend to be what work: forbidden romance, or an unsolved murder and a maverick. We have a fair idea of what’s going to happen, but it’s the anticipation - and/or the eventual subversion - that brings the fun. Plot and drive.
Again, try to have a strong idea of where it’s going, or the spirit of it. Terry Pratchett once said that you want to be able to write your own blurb: it’s a good sign if you can distil the essence of your story into a hundred words or so.
Just like real people, characters have verbal tics, peculiar turns of phrase and certain mannerisms. Learn them, and use but don’t overuse. Keep it natural.
Some people just don’t like present tense, or past, or first person, for whatever reason. You may be buggered from the start, and sometimes all you can do is try. Try and know your audience, try your best. Try not to bang your head against a wall.
However, present tense is a slippery bastard. At its best, there’s almost nothing that can match it for immediacy and visceral intensity. At its worst, it can either be staccato, bleak and overly clinical - or at the other end of the scale, it can be overwrought sensory overload. Either way, a reader will be put off. Ideally, I try to balance the two and end up somewhere in the middle: punch and verve, but with restraint and room for the reader to infer. I rarely manage this, but God do I try.
Speaking of inference: don’t assume the reader is an idiot. Sometimes the best punchline or explanation is the one that’s never given. Myself, my favourite horror stories are the ones that don’t go for shlock and shocks: they’re the ones where I finish them feeling mildly unsettled, go and do the washing-up while my mind puts the pieces together, and then go, five or ten minutes later, “Oh God, it was behind the door the whole time! That’s... Argh.”
People are terrifyingly complicated. Every reader brings something to the text, whether they’re aware of it or not. This can add unexpected beauty or poignancy, but it can also make implication, idioms, dialect and offence into total minefields. People can come out with things that would never have occurred to you. Something might fly over someone’s head, or something might turn out to be an incredibly offensive phrase in their country and perfectly innocuous in yours; someone might find your happy ending the most depressing thing in the known universe, and someone else might hate your likeable romantic hero because he reminds them of their arsehole ex. Sometimes you can anticipate this and take countermeasures for clarity’s sake; often you don’t need to because theirs is a perfectly valid interpretation and part of the joy of making a cake is seeing people eat it; and mostly you just can’t know, because people come in so many different permutations and you’re not actually psychic, so leave them to it. Gah.
Watch your tenses. Things like flashbacks are nightmare territory and ripe for grammar slippage. Never be afraid or too proud to read up on usage.
Same with semicolons. Tricky little gits.
People mangle language. Doesn’t matter whether you’ve had the “perfect” education, everyone does it at least sometimes. People lose words, misuse vocabulary (me, all the time), go for double negatives, mix metaphors. You always want your dialogue to be readable, and you don’t want your portrayals to be hackneyed or offensive, but it’s generally unnecessary to aim for perfection in dialogue unless it’s for effect: say, if you want to make a character less approachable, if you want to show they’re not human, or if rose-tinted dialogue is a stylistic choice. Generally, true-to-life dialogue is inherently descriptive rather than prescriptive.
Sometimes said mangling leads to fascinating new quirks, dialect and expressions.
Speech is very different from thought. A character’s narrative voice is often quite different to their dialogue voice. Thought is much faster than speech, and sometimes someone will answer their own question before they’ve finished saying it. Thought is by nature more disjointed, and thought is also a monologue, unless everyone’s suddenly turned telepathic or you’re dealing with dissociation/multiple personalities. In contrast, speech has a listener, which changes it. Nerves can make phrases choppy or make them fail completely. Often people interrupt each other. Realistic dialogue should reflect this.
On a similar note, let your characters talk. Know where to draw the line - no-one wants the tension ruined by a half-hour conversation about socks - but very few people are all business or all dramatic emotion all the time. (Those who seemingly are will have reasons for it, and those are often worth exploring, too.) Unless you’re on a particular word and/or time limit, let your characters occasionally be real people whose eyeliner runs, or who dislike artichokes, or who make bad jokes - and people who don’t revolve completely around your protagonist, with their own internal lives. When done right, relateable is not boring - especially if you’re working in a fantastic or dramatic canon. The odd anchor to reality can grab your heart and tug.
But do know where to draw the line. Let them be enigmatic and heroic when they need to, because often the magic is in that contrast between the epic and the mundane. Characters can do and be what we can’t. Don’t take away all their mystery and more idealised qualities.
There’s no one way to do funny, and there’s no way to write an instruction manual for it. Again, like most other things, it’s a matter of interpretation: everyone’s tickled by different things. But often humour relies on the subversion of expectation - bathos and anticlimax, for example, or giving an established word/phrase an entirely new meaning - or it relies on particular character idiosyncrasies, or on the other side, the utter, crushing fulfilment of expectations. (”Save the world, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.”) A good source of jokes is often that “I bloody knew it!” feeling.
Characters have biases, too. Always try and account for this in the narrative.
Foreshadowing is your friend, and often a key to emotional closure for the reader. Unless you can do some serious, stylish authorial sleight-of-hand, deus ex machina endings will prompt pissed-offness rather than satisfied applause. Even if you don’t introduce your secret weapon/s early on - best right near the beginning, if possible - at least get the key themes and characters down. You want to get an, “Oh, of course,” not “Well, that was a total arse-pull.”
Screenwriters sometimes talk of an A-plot and a B-plot. The A-plot’s the main one, and B is a seemingly separate subplot that inevitably turns out to be all tangled up with A. It’s pretty standard for detective dramas: there’s a murder, they start investigating, and the seemingly unrelated corpse on the other side of town always ends up being central to the case. A and B always converge. Often, if it’s a story with depth and a well-reasoned plot, the B plot will grow naturally. Of course, that’s only one way of doing it: some stories have a strong, driving A plot that drives everything and stands on its own, and have some C, D, E, F, so on plots. I admit, I’m not much good at the A + B plot thing, so I don’t tend to do it. If I have subplots, they tend to be less connected and a bit more character-driven, rather than about world-saving/murder-solving like the A plot. (I tend to half-jokingly call these C plots, where the C stands for “character” or “crying.”) Good characters usually write their own C plots - they have ulterior motives, hidden aspects, unexpected connections, and if you let them wander off they’ll make trouble for themselves. C plots are connected to the main plot, but unlike B plots, not a fundamental part of it. Sorry, screenwriters, for the terminology mangling.
Another trick to nick from Hollywood: the meet-cute. Sometimes you want someone to enter the narrative sneakily and unobtrusively, but often, especially with protagonists and love interests, never underestimate the power of a good, memorable character introduction. Audiences remember the ways they meet your characters, and the ways that characters meet eaxch other.
It’s not necessary for every story, but often it’s good to have a rock-bottom moment where everything looks hopeless. It reminds your audience viscerally of the stakes and penalties for failure, and it makes eventual victory even sweeter because it’s against the odds. Unless the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. In that case, rock on with your downer-ending self.
Often the best plot comes from character. (After all, Greek dramatists went on about this all the time with concepts like hubris and hamartia.) Even when nations clash, nations are run by flawed, corrupt people. Antagonists ought to have strong motivations unless you’re writing senseless violence/cruelty intentionally. So on. People often talk about the heart of drama being conflict, and some people, taking that to heart, write a war or their couple arguing. Yeah, that can work brilliantly, but there are other ways to do it, and conflict can be smaller-scale, too. It can be as simple as different aspects of the same character clashing; for instance, if they’re torn between love and duty (there’s a reason that one’s so popular), or the conflict between their past and present selves.
