Note
this may be a convoluted question, but i am curious if there are any specific Hebrew words used in the bible that have especially fascinating translations/debate over translation for you? i am interested in how the different translations for single words may alter the understanding of entire passages.
hebrew bible terms that are nontranslatable, that evade translation, that refuse it, and that i return to hold anyway—the tetragrammaton; gen 1:2's tohu vavohu (nonformed unform); exod 34:35's qaran (radiant/horn); exod 21:22's yəladeyha vayaṣə'u (unformed fetus); num 19:2's 'adummah parah (red cow); chaqaq (phallus/staff/inscribe); rechem (womb-ish); exod 22:23 and lev 17:15's utərepah (mangled flesh); chor (hole, and, chora)
