Queer history needs to be taught. It’s not enough to say “in the past, people didn’t like queer people” and put a pin in it. If I see one more person say “Ancient Greece wasn’t homophobic” I’ll scream
#i was watching a video about queer history and everyone was commenting ‘I didn’t know this it’s so interesting!’#and it was lavender scare 101. when I say a little part of me died#i understand that not everyone accidentally finds themselves reading legal documents from the 1950s but it’s the lavender scare!!#idk man#anyways#sexuality is complex. gender is complex. and it always has been#sexuality as we know it was only invented in the Victorian era and it was controversial among the queer community#see: Virginia Woolf. she wrote about how she didn’t want to be labelled either gay or straight. she loved her husband and her girlfriend.#understanding the past gives us better insight of the present#also don’t label someone for them. you don’t want your identity chosen for you. don’t choose it for someone else. even if they’re dead
