can someone please teach instagram users that a fit and flare dress is not automatically 1950s fashion
#i typically don't engage in nitpicking historical fashion but.#yes the new look was a very important fashion movement and it did coincide with the early 1950s despite starting earlier#but first off a lot of what people pass off as ''1950s fashion'' is just a fit and flare dress and not the right silhouette#like the 1950s new look silhouette is very structured and a lot of these dresses are. not that#and then also there is a lot of 50s fashion that isn't fit and flare dresses#especially later in the decade there's of course the rise of the wiggle dress#but also like you'll see pencil skirts and pedal pushers and slinky evening gowns all the way through#anyway this concludes my complaint#soapbox
