Day 299: Friday October 25, 2024 - "A Freddie Freeman"

Started a new tradition tonight with William that I surprisingly fell in love with myself - I had saved 5 or 6 packs of 2024 baseball cards from mid-season for tonight - for the start of the world series, to pull out and open with William. Even if I got his attention for a half minute with it, thatd be fun. But as it was, with the first inning on the TV, and popped corn in the bowl, we sat and opened two packs together. In it, he pulled a Riley Greene card - way to go! I was excited for him, exactly what I needed - thank you baseball gods! I found his little collection box in his closet and opened a few more packs myself, what an old nostalgic dopamine hit!!! How fun! As I opened one deck, Stanton launched a magestic Home Run that stood to be the difference in the game until the 9th. Would be cool if I pull a Stanton card after that, I said. No - Stanton, but I got a Freedie Freeman, maybe he'll be the hero tonight.!"

The thought of a hero was on my mind, in this old timey historic baseball matchup. I had decided I didnt care for anything more from these two teams than just 7 good historic games that gets decided by a no name pinch hitter and a journeyman reliver and somebody wins in a way we call and talk to our friends about.... Its been a fun baseball season. I hope something really great for baseball happens in this next week. Something that everyone can love - even if it is LA and NY. Audrie was giving me some (admitted) pregnancy grump and I had a great idea - "you need to open some baseball cards!" YEA! I loved watching her flip through her pulls and pronounce the names of the guys. Just like a kid - to see who'd you get and how pretty and special they are. I fell back in love with this old forgotten feeling. What a neat trick. Especially at the end of the baseball year, when all but the most important part of the story has been told, but all the characters have been developed and we just need to see how it ends. Audrie pulled an Anthony Rizzo and it made her smile and I thought that was really great. "He's good right?" Totally, I affirmed. He's right there batting right now! And how loved am I, that here's my tired pregnant wife, that understood my enthusiasm and put on a baseball shirt for the world series.... I didnt even do that! I love her so much and it was fun watching with her and Deni (a Dodgers fan).

The game wound up tied in the 9th, as we navigated William's bedtime, and in the 10th the Yankees played old school national league small ball to get in a run. Buth in the bottom of the tenth, Shohei Ohtani loomed large with an opportunity to tie it....but it wasn't Shohei who'd be the hero tonight...itd be Freddie Freeman instead, with two outs and a no doubter to right field. A Game 1 Walk Off. The first ever walkoff grand slam in World Series History. First in History. Check. Game 1 delivered.

And it wasn't long before I was seeing on social echos of the same thing I was telling Audrie about - about Gibson's shot to Right Field against the Athletics in 88. It was my first memorable sports moment. She watched it with me as I told her vividly how my Uncle Ryan was babysitting me and let me stay up late to watch it. It was probably the first real sports moment for me like that, you know because sports wasn't on TV all the time like it is now. I shared with her that probably more than anytihng up to that point, Boxing was the sport most watched in my house. "Really?" ABC Wide World of Sports - yea it was a different time! But imagine how my Uncle Ryan would have been energized by the moment as it built - this Spartan of his generation who 4 years before led the Tigers to the Championship and now here he was hobbled in LA doing something dramatic - a disney moment, and probably the first time I was ever moved by Sports. Audrie and I watched that long at bat, how Gibby fouled off pitches and worked the count, and then launched a shot to the almost exact spot in the right field bleachers as Freeman's tonight. A Game 1 walkoff. It was uncanny. You know, I pulled a Freddie Freeman tonight? Now thats special... A good way to kickoff this world series tradition. A game Id call my friends about in the morning. William came out from his bath with Grammee and wanted to see the end of the game and sat with me after I backed it up and watched bright eyed as Freddie popped his homer and held his hand up in the high and started to run the bases. William promptly squealed and ran around the house. The Dodgers celebrated and we all agreed, I guess we're cheering for the Dodgers this year. Beacuse that was pretty cool.

as you especially know: planes are cool as hell. which is really reason enough to like the aerialbots but ive always been fascinated with concordes since i was a little kid of of Course silverbolt was going to immediately shoot up to my All Time Favorites list as soon as i saw him (the other day one of my moms said she was surprised there wasnt a concorde tf bc thatd be right up my alley and i was like!!!!!! oh but there is!!!!!!!! and i love him!!!!)

and sidenote to ⬆️ that is that. ive always found planes SO COOL but i didnt rly know how to get started like, learning more?? abt them?? and apparently the answer to that was just to get really into transformers LOL

but also the fact that the aerialbots are like. the autobots bratty teen kids is so fun to me. slingshot especially but the way they all thought the decepticons are So Cool and what are we even doing caring about humans when those other guys can fly too isnt that awesome!!! is so fun. and really shows that like, they dont get it! the war isnt their fight, they were just kinda tossed into it without explanation. the fact that it wasnt just a regular g1 one-and-done plot point rly made them feel more interesting as characters too, since it took literal time travel to change their minds.

(plus silverbolts snark towards the others is a rly nice touch of character for him. hes not just a dweeb thats afraid of heights!)

also Also combiners and their teams are just some of the most fascinating parts of transformers. but like the aerialbots honestly have a lot in common with the stunticons despite being bitter rivals and literally made to fight each other? and the difference in how superion handles the chaos of his components vs how menasor does? love that. plus just within the autobots teams, im rly disappointed that the aerialbots and protectobots havent rly done much together in canon bc the vibes are So different and id love to see how theyd mesh

idk theyre Neat i love every one of them individually and i love them together and i cant ever even pick a Most Favorite Aerialbot bc it changes every week. theyre so much fun

i've never listened to Friends At The Table (though it's on my list now, dnd campaigns podcast wooo!) what would the storyline of the crossover entail? with the HermitCraft characters i'm guessing it's chaotic and interesting 😊

:0!!!! :DDD!!!!!!! if u end up giving it a shot i hope u enjoy it! they dont actually play dnd, they play a bunch of other tabletop games which are all really neat also! (also if u need a suggestion for where to start if/when u get to it, feel free to drop me an ask)

the story follows the typical structure of "group is sent off to do tasks for money, and eventually realise something bigger is going on" so i am largely following the plot in that way, where groups of adventurers are sent out to investigate a series of towers that appear to have some connection to the gods of the world. ajhsjjejhfhjef most of my thoughts about the au are more character based,, so instead of a proper plot summary i can give details and thoughts on where some of the hermits fit into everything so far (while. trying to avoid the big twists revealed in the podcast ig,,?) i also ended up including some sleepybees (sbi + beeduo) in the au but im still not 100% sure on where they fit in (as in i have too many ideas djhdkndnj)

ANYWAY uhhhh some spoilers for the universe im basing this off of, under the cut cos it got long :'D

context/setting:

the specific arc/universe that this au is set in is the one from Seasons in Hieron (SiH) which is their fantasy season! (its. its long,, this arc spans i think. 3 seasons? plus a short interlude season)

the setting was previously a traditional fantasy world that had some sort of great catastrophe (the Erasure) happen, and the current world is after people have rebuilt a new society! its described as "post-fantasy, post-post-apocalyptic" its very fun and subversive and afhdjfbj the worldbuilding is just. real good :>

characters:

im still figuring out where different hermits fit into the au but i am basically taking aspects of various characters from the podcast and splitting roles and traits to hermits, so its all mixed up! also,, there are just. so many hermits,, i have not found places for all of them (not even most of them i dont think) but here is what i have so far:

impulse and zedaph work in the New Archives (a series of huge warehouse-like archives run by the orcs of this world!) impulse is an orc, zed is not! impulse works to retrieve artifacts for the archive, and zed,, hes just kinda there. learning and experimenting with pattern magic (a type of magic done by arranging and rearranging things in specific configurations, often they are obscure and weird things like "27 brown birds in a tree, 5 table legs, 500 buttons, 16 steps to the east" etc.) when the story finds them they are studying a fallen tower in the center of the Mark of the Erasure (a location still showing the effect of the great cataclysm that befell the world)

tango vaguely takes the role of Ephraim, prince of something or rather,,, idk man hes cool and has fire powers, very anime. his powers were a gift from the gods, and he goes on to hv close relations w them! he meets up with impulse and zed later on and become fast friends obviously

joe is an expert in pattern magic, and is on the run from the archives after having stolen a pretty nondescript notebook. its a nice notebook! hes just a human guy. he writes and recites poetry in order to do pattern magic using the notebook!

cleo hails from the city of *Nacre*, where people get multiple chances at life. people from there can get killed but will exist on as zombies, then if they are killed again, they exist as ghosts, and then they pass away fully. she is an undead pirate captain that joe somehow manages to sway over to their side ahjbhfbjf,, she is hunting down the lost prince/king of Nacre.

wels is a pala-din (pal-ah-deen, rather than paladin), a sort of living marble statue that serves one of the gods in the pantheon.

scar is ofc, a wizard! it. it should be noted that wizards dont really exist in this world, people who perform and study magic are mages, not wizards,, "wizard" is kind of a weird term to use sjbdbjhfjjhb scar takes place of The Great Fantasmo in the podcast, and similarly has an invisible assistant! he doesnt seem to remember much of his past...

cubfan works in Velas, a fishing town where the story "begins" he does not enjoy talking to scar, and seems to be sad whenever hes around. perhaps scar reminds him of someone, or perhaps of better times...

tfc hes a priest aagsuijdjhkdgjdkihwhjvd i swear theres a reason for this later,, the role of the npc alyosha is somewhat split between tfc and cub!

others i have thoughts on but im not settled on yet:

im debating having xisuma as part of the pantheon, but if not, he would be a druid so he can shapeshift into animals sjbakjnsnfjb he would take the general role of Fero in the story, but would also be kind of split with evil x, who captures... a certain stubbornness and deepset frustration Fero has in later times.

etho could take the place of Samol, the first god to exist. he is the embodiment of this world, and is kind of isolated and strange wbhshjhbdbhjdjbdkjn,, strange /pos. hes also. kind of dissapearing though... i wonder why :)

while theoratically i could have xisuma as samol cos. yknow. admin. i think the vibes and role just fit etho better

and... if i had etho as samol i think it could be fun to have doc and bdubs as other members of the pantheon, if u go with their dynamic from the start of s7 they even fit the divorced couple vibe two of the gods have /lh /hj (nho pantheon pog..? maybe. theres a total of 5 deities in the pantheon tho...)

im leaning toward either false + stress or maybe gem + pearl pairs for two of the goddesses in the pantheon, but thatd probably depend on if i can find a better place for them ;P

techno and phil take the role of red jack, and techno is a Huge Oni Dude >:] in canon red jack has a cool horse!!! it fits!! hes also. heavily implied to be kinda immortal?? anyway. im torn on this because techno and phil ALSO fit the roles of some of the player characters, with relation to the missing prince/king of Nacre but im still working things out,,

no matter whats up with them, ranboo takes the role of bluejay, redjacks son, meeting up with tubbo and tommy who take the place of benjamin, the son of one of the player characters. tubbo and tommy kind of. get sent to another dimension to keep them safe,,? and live in a lie for many years before they are brought back.

when i first thought about this au, i also thought about the whole. sending child off into fake dimension to live life, and of course. i thought about. grumbot ofc and originally planned to have mumbo or grian take the place of that player character abhdfvnbrvbn but it also implies one or both of them would be paladins (not pala-din! just the normal religious knight) AND have connections to tubbo and tommy which is. funny but ehhhh idk.

and that. maybe probably somewhat incoherent train of thought is what i have for the au so far! its. still very much a work in progress so thank you if you stuck through all that!! ive still got a lot to think abt in the au,,,, lots to figure out ;P hopefully i can iron it out a bit more in the future, but its fun to think about for the time being

do you have any plots you wanna do with some of the more Specific denny locations like… the vr thing in auriga or the blind date hotel or anything like that?

oh this is a good one because i love the new locations

once i get a character who like, would feasibly sign up for blind dates i 500% want to plot a few encounters with that. just because rping out casual flirting is something i havent gotten a chance to do much but thats been really fun. obviously it COULD always lead to a longer plot, but. i think temporary or brief romance plots are really fun too. so id love to jumpstart something off of the blind date hotel 

the vr thing is another really good one... im trying to think if any my current characters would use it. id say warrior cats (esp like, cats from the lake showing cats not from the lakes/non warrior cats) but when are cats gonna end up in AURIGA. other than that i cant think of many of my characters who would want to/have an interesting enough world to share, or be good for seeing someone else’s world... like maybe laurel and dolores? but theyre pretty good at communicating without that thing, so im not sure. maybe someone in the future! but yeah itd be a really fun situation for a.... really emotional private rp, and im always fond of those so. 

you mentioned camille and laurel going to the siren’s lake in avalon, and i really like that idea because they both have a lot with loved ones theyve lost. buuuut id also like to do it with a dynamic where like, one person would be Really Really tempted to follow the call and one character isn’t as much and has to talk them out of it a bit. (we haven’t planned camille and laurel but im not sure thats the most accurate to their reactions). especially, itd depend on the dynamic, but i feel like i havent had a good “rping the character trying to snap someone else’s character out of it” moment so that would be fun... though huh if you have canonmates that are close couldn’t the sirens mimick one of them and you could have a “who’s the real x” moment?? THAT’D be really fun too

i also want to do stuff with london. a LOT of stuff. but thats more general because that translates to “i want to do supernatural horror stuff” which wow shocking coming from me, i know. 

also the night folk in the southwest swamp. though against thats mostly just zombie stuff. actually though id love to do some stuff with characters besides cats in the southwest, the southwest is just... such a fun zone. 

oh london again: the wishing well is a neat little thing and i thought it might be fun someday to facilitate one of those “i need to find my important object from my canon for my powers, but it’s missing” kind of plot. or at least something meaningful? like if maria was earlier in her arc maybe we could have it bring out mary’s letter, though now would be weird timing. that kinda thing

since the stables in avalon are mentioned to house more than just horses, i want one of my characters to adopt a griffin steed or something. thatd be cool. come on, margot!, 

oh at some point id want to do something with port royal’s treasure/mystic water, as part of an abduction plot. because i do want to do one of those at some point! but yes thats pretty straightforward 

but ummm in general i love how the diverse new locations add some way more atmospheric for characters to live that really.... spices up the options. like if i apped laurel now she’d totally chill in the shady parts of auriga (actually she might take a job doing security there, i havent decided). and i have GOT to get a nonhuman character who lives in the great valley. i just need it. who wants to go on a journey to the great valley with me

also i love the prehistoric wilds having a badlands section. i dont think? i ever mentioned it but maive’s pack’s territory was in a badlands kind of area and so its just. perfect. prehistoric representation!

anyway tl;dr i actually have quite a few ideas for little plots but i just need to wait for the right characters to come along for it

Miscellaneous thoughts for the 'dark pokemon' game

* it could be cool as an actual hack of firered or something, but it seems that would require more coding knowledge than using apps like rpgmaker. Also there's that kit to make pokemon games in rpgmaker but it only worked for the really old rpgmakers and now its got copyright claimed by nintendo so its not really an option. Itd be easier to make this game in the latest rpgmaker cos its not really an outright pokemon fangame but more of a general mons genre thing that could have different gameplay if i wanted it to.

* or would it work better as an actual pokemon prequel thing? Like 'kanto was actually all dark like this back in ye ancient times' and have a bunch of prehistoric/caveman/400AD/whatever time period forms of pokemon or something? But thatd give me less creative freedom with the idea, yeah

* Not sure if your mons should talk or not? One of the initial inspirations i had for this was the underrated gem Swordcraft Story where your four starter monsters are more like a choice of sidekick! They dont actually fight, they just provide a huge different set of dialogue commenting on everythibg that happens, and its fab! But then the game kinda woukdnt have the collectable aspect and i feel that the long journeys between towns would get boring if theres no incentive to battle enemies. And long journeys between towns is kinda a big plot point and thematic aspect of this idea.

* Also i kinda wanna do Cute Pet Game Gameplay as a fun way of stepping away from the pure pokemon formula. And that'd perhaps be a bit weird if your pet can talk? I dunno? Well maybe itd be more like those baby raising games. But i had a separate idea for literally a monster baby raising game so itd be good to not overlap, lol. Wish i knew how to actually do touchscreen petting type stuff in rpgmaker, i mean its on pc so theoretically you should be able to do an equivalent with the mouse? Maybe try and cheat my way into it with my minimal programming knowledge by basically making a "map" where all the tiles are pieces of this one image of a monster, and then you walk over it to select where to pet...? I dunno lol! Anyway bonding with your mons is VITALLY IMPORTANT TO THE EVERYTHING so i need to DEEPLY THINK ABOUT IT. deeply deeply contemplate huggin some babbu

* maybe the game's title could be something like dark walk/journey/stroll/whatever's a good synonym? Cos the whole 'monster tamers are cursed and must walk the earth forever in search of somewhere to belong'

* i'm not sure how to handle the beginning? Cos of the whole aspect of starting off looking like a cliche poke-clone and then slowly revealing the deep dark lore during the tutorial segments. So we'd sorta have to skip/abridge the day of our hero leaving their village, in order to not spoil it. And have a flashback later on at the most dramatic moment! But that means itd be awkward to give you the selection of starter monster? So i dunno maybe do like kingdom hearts and have a surreal dreamworld opening segment? The protagonist is having a nightmare about that day they had to leave their family behind, and everything can be just as vague and confusing as the plot needs it to be. You cpuld be some sort of vague faceless shadow until you decide your gender, and etc? (Protagonist: wait why did i dream i couldnt remember i was a dude)

* oh and maybe you can choose a custom gemstone for your monster summoning pendant thing! Cos if its gonna be one singular thing instead of consumeable pokeballs, itd kinda suck if you had no choice which one thing youre stuck with for the whole game. Or maybe it could change but itd be more like it evolves as well as the monsters? Start off with one design and it has multiple final forms depending on your moral choices during your playthrough. Oh, or if you choose it at the beginning, maybe it somehow affects your starter mon? Like the simplest idea would just be that each starter mon has its own pendant to live in. But what if the pendant choices were elements and then the starter mon is like a vessel to imbue with it? Like you get three designs that are..i dunno, attack defense and speed? And they each have a fire water or grass form, for a total of 9 unique mon options! That way i could keep it limited to three personalities to write, if i go with the idea of the mons being able to talk. But still have a lot more free choice! Oh or maybe its not even 3 elements but 9 elements? Like the three options change depending on the base mon. Attack mon can be fire, electric or darkness but defense mon can be something entirely else. Or maybe have overlap so there's at least two choices for each element but nobody has the same entire three elements? Im bad at math tho so i cant figure outhow to arrange that to make it work...how many elements wpuld i need...?

* maybe you could choose your rival's gender as well as the protagonist? Thatd be neat if they also looked different in every playthrough. I mean the variety of starters would encourage replays so we wanna have some other stuff that changes too. And if you could choose rival gender then it wouldnt be limited to the "always the opposite gend so thus heterosexuality" sort of thing. Oh and maybe what if other characters had potential smaller changes? Like your family members having similar skin and hair colours, or you have a single parent but whether theyre a mum or a dad depends on what you picked? Or if i cpuld figure out some other more gameplayish things that i could give replay value to? Like maybe you actually have a choice of what town to go to at each point in the story, and you cant revisit the other one without replaying that chapter? And your team options would be wildly different depending on which journey you took, so itd be a nicely large difference! Tho maybe make it so that most mons are still all available on each playthru, its just that some would appear early if you made a certain choice but be at the very end of the game if you chose differently. Oh and maybe the champion would be different depending on your choices!!! Like if you complete certain sidequests you might have just added a new candidate to the potential final boss roster! Itll be whoever's your bestest bestie by the end! Tho i mean with this different setting there isnt really a league or a champion so id just have to think of some other climactic ending thing, lol.

Yeah... a pretty big chunk of the groups I'm into are getting to an age where the members have to start enlisting 😔 I've temporarily lost three biases to the military already and the time is coming when another (Youngbin) is going to have to go as well :( this is what I get for biasing mostly older members... At least enlisting earlier means they'll be back earlier though 😭 small comforts

It is super neat to figure out how things tie together! Ah I see you have a mindset kind of like mine 😂 I love learning so much and I would study everything if I could, it's too bad there's not enough time to learn about everything (not to mention the amount that would cost in tuition!) I think that's the one thing that would tempt me to seek immortality... imagine having unlimited time to discover more about the world and how it works, and people and how they work, and to explore places and ideas and skills... man it would be so cool!!

There are a few tricks I use to stay cool but I think the easiest one is to take a cold shower and then not dry your hair afterwards (obviously dry it enough that it doesn't drip everywhere, but like... as little as possible), the water will cool you off and then since your hair is wet it won't act as insulation to keep your head warm, and as it evaporates that will also keep you cool! Another one is to use ice packs, those can help a lot.

Tbh I think the fires are a lot more dangerous than the earthquakes at least in my experience, I've never been in an earthquake big enough to cause any damage but there have been some really serious fires in my area that affected a lot of people including ones I knew so that feels like a more immediate danger to me - idk though, every place has its risks and benefits and I'm willing to put up with it haha

Hm I think I'm most excited for the music but also the MV, it seems like it's going to be really cool! I'm obsessed with aesthetics so I can't wait to see the whole thing 👀 and I bet the gifs and edits everyone's going to make will be amazing as well!! the project is about truecasing, which is basically (to my understanding) getting the program to return the proper casing (uppercase, lowercase, etc.) of a given word based on context and probabilities. it's helpful to use on text that might have misspellings or things that are typed all uppercase or lowercase (like texts/messaging). it seems pretty interesting! tho i did almost fall asleep when I was doing the reading last night, but i'll blame that on the fact that i was tired out from skating 😂😅 and yeah there's a lot of programming and i told myself I should do a lot of practice over the summer at the end if the semester and yet..ive barely done anything. which is why I was excited when my professor mentioned this project bc I really need to get back into things. thank you for cheering me on!! im rooting for you as well 😚❤❤

I choose the word patronus or soul animal because im not sure the relationship i want to it to be that ii physically become it or am it in another life but maybe something that i live vicariously through it or something ha whatever thatd be called! Id always kinda thought of a snake bc theyre so svelte but also i wanted an aquatic animal bc what a different world in the water and that must be soft getting to move smoothly in more than two dimensions. So its cool bc it says these guys can go on land and mostlyin water. Plus their little fins look cool and they still look sleek. I didnt want an animal that looks too much . Plus its a good size, 3-5ft, 5-7 pounds - thats a size thats not easily smooshed and stepped on its substantial but not overbearing or threatening or something that cant fit anywhere lol. Plus i kinda like its life. Nocturnal so i dont have to deal with the sun or looking at all kinds of crazy stuff sometimes a lot of visual stimulation is overwhelming lol. Just everybody be quiet and dont look at me loll. I mean idk. It uses mostly smell to get its food which is also my fav sense lol. Its like a magic sense because its like invisible and you cant even see or feel anything, its like its just telepathy lol. I like how it only eats small things without blood that arent a big deal to eat and that probs dont have many feelings, like bugs . Because like, chill down!. I like its choice of habitat. Freshwater bodies of water are like, my favorite thing in a habitat, even as a human. So fresh and refreshing and invigoratig yet safe lol. One of my fav landscapes. Because it has so many elements to it to ground and engage you, in good ways that arent gross or overwhelming. Sound of waves lapping a distinct but nice smell. Water and mud are gentler than like trees and ground and rock. Plus they get born in the gulf of mexico apparently - all of them lol?!. Thats cool, it mist be nice and warm there, neat place to start-and end apparently. Yea i also like how they do get to stay in like one spot all their lives, but at the begining and end they get to do some travelling alll the way back to their birth place. I like an athletic animal, especially ones that can swim. Amazing not to even drown lol maybe its hust bc i see it from a human perspective. I like this sense of loyalty which i value in this life-even if for them its just biological rather than emotional.. how nice, i love that , they go backk to theirr birth place to give birth again and die. After spending all their life in one place . I also like their predators even. Theyre just these chilll big fish and like herrons. I could respect a chill big fish like a bass. Bass has fed my human species so why not give back. Yea i mean i respect all species but if i had to pick my predator id rather have someone whos not gonna get all dramatic and violent and obnoxious about it lol. Like a shark w all their scary teeth or like a raptor with its hella claws and sharp beak . Just just like a graceful herron whos like kinda respectful to me and is as quiet as it can be before it comes for me, disrupting as little of my life as possible before it kills me, and then you dont even notice it w its little legs and narrow beak, just going like ploop!, i imagine, and nabbing me up before i can realize it lol. Or like the bass, does it even have teeth? Idk i dont imagine it making much of a fuss, just cooly coming by and slurp! In i go, dead! Sure i can accept that probably lol if i had to. Plus its not scary but its not gonna be anyones bitch. Hopefully all animals wont in their own way. But its fun to me how ironic it is that ud think out if all the animals these snake like eels would have the short end of the stick youd think, because they dont even have any damn like legs or arms or barely any teeth! But. They can live allll the way under the ground like a meter under the ground and theyre slippery on purpose so u cant catch them And they can swim as fuck it looks like which is cool. Like its cool when they can survive because of skillz and abilities not just because they got a good bod built like that they dont have to contribute anything about. #ugh english is hard today lol.

On the downside theyre a little ugly and i sure wouldnt wanna touch one all slimy for goodbess sake. And it might get lonely and cold living at the bottom of a river during the day all day erry day. The heck how are you supposed to make friends. Cant even get a spouse which couldve been nice like penguins, they just layy eggs for the dude to fertilize - and then the mon dies! Bummer. But they can live to like 30. For an animal who just idk, doesnt make friends or learn about the world butt who can swim which is cool - i guess thats a substantial amount if time to do enough fish stuff and have a good time with fish things - i like how they doo get to travel. Always thought that was impressive and must be fulfilling like wih geese who fly far- what an accomplishment.

between the ages of like 10 and 14 i spent a majority of my free time and school recees walking around and daydreaming about one solid story and its different spinoffs constantly. 

in this story i essentially created a universe like ours except it revolved around the logic that if “the emotional/mental pain you feel is great enough, you wont feel phyiscal pain” cuz i was like 11 and edgi and thought i was so very special compared to my peers.

so anyways this storys protagonist was a self insert character who, just like me, went to school and all that jazz. And then, as many preteens/teens might dream about, a Tragedy™ struck my school and it was Attacked by Random Terrorists™ and my character so Heroically Died Trying To Protect Everyone(™)

so anyways due to plot points i cant exactly remember but might get to the character didnt actually die. INSTEAD, they were thrown back into the dawn of time. Like, they ended up being the first thing existing. And the thing was that due to this was before literally everything else existed, death wasnt a thing yet. So! Character could not die! Just. Yeet around and exist! What a wonderful existance!

So anyways after like. A Long Time™ of that, gods just sorta appeared. And they did Not Like the existance of this character. like: “this dude is not only older than us but sentient and cant die???? bitch. fuck you” was their entire character. also they were evil and garbage.

But this didnt affect Character much. After all, they cant die. so why be afraid? they kept yeeting around trying to find a meaning to existance for a while.

And then! Sentient life happend. Dont remember if it was accidental or the gods created them or smth but anyways the Character fell in love! :0!! Got a nice wife and cottage to live and was happy!! :D

then the gods basically grew tired of the sentient life and killed them all. which made Character mad. And gave them super emotional pain cuz 12 y/o me thought “hm. whats the most emotionally painful thing that can happen to you? losing someone you love? like a wife? hm. make sense. lets roll with that” and yea.

so Character was not only basically immortal before, but now theyre Super Immortal! wow! so yea they went on a rampage hunting the gods and killing them all. (god of war style)

And this is were the Fun Stuff (according to 13 y/o me, cuz i reapet this part of the story Constantly) happens! When killing a god, their powers got absorbed by Character! So by the end of it all they were The One All Mighty God. which was like. neat ig. 

and then time passed or smht idk i dont recall anyways it rolled aroudn to the time The Character Aka Me would be born and they foudn out that they lived in a time loop! and had to basically give up their existance to place their soul in the child thats about to be born so they can exist and everything will repeat forever and ever. 

character was like. hm. ok. i will like. fix this so i am born. but like. fuck the not existing part. 

and just. didnt cease to exist. idk how this worked it just Did and apparently they never thought of this in the previous loops or smth? so anyways they decided to return to their old life like. either right as they died or a year later. i never made up my mind which version to roll with

version 1: right after they die

so imagine this kid just died infront of the entire school due to some attack or smth and suddenly they just jump back up and demolish everything. yea thats the plot

version 2: a year later

so imagine this kid who died a year ago shows back up at school all of a sudden but now theyre Super Cool and Edgy and also like. and all powerful god. yea thats the plot. 

so anyways after living the regular life for a while they decide that. hm. lets do smth else. and then just fucks off to do whatever the fuck i could think of across the multiverse. 

remember that thru the entire thing they always had the “i am in too much constant mental pain to feel any kind of physical pain” edgy broodin attitude. and kept it forever. plus they were literally an all powerful god so they could do anything but was like. nah. im gonna use like 2 powers on like 0.00000001% forever (it was a literal Big Thing several times that they would like. use “100%” but in reality they just use like an entire 0.00000001%. cuz they kept limiting their own power for the lulz). 

and also at several points they transformed themselves into a woman for several reasons, some top mentions being:

to fuck a woman cuz apparently being a lesbian still was an option? idk man im dumb now cuz i was very dumb back then

idk man point bein this happend a Lot and i probably shouldve realised i am trans way earlier than i did

i think i stopped daydreaming about this story fully when i was like. 15. cuz i cant remember any of it beyond 14.

COMIC TEA PARTY- THURSDAY BOOK CLUB START!

Good evening, everyone~! This week’s Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Goddess of Paradise by Dee S. / Beedee~! (http://paradise.bluedubia.com/)

Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!

QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?

my favorite scene so far i think is when eridu runs into ekka. it was nice to see a character actually be happy to see her after a slew of eridu running into charas who dont really care all that much. and i just think its a good balance in general to all the hard truths eridu has woken up to.

although my second favorite scene admittedly is probably when she meets amun. just cause amun is gonna win all those awards for being lazy and laid back

but in general i liked how casually amun reveals that nah bro, its been 1200 years of slumber. as if its no big deal (which tbf for gods probably kind of isnt to a degree but still XD)

My favourite scene was near the start of Chapter 4, with the human encounter. In large part because there was mention of a "dead human", making me think "wow that took a dark turn"... then it turned out she wasn' t dead and there was the whole "ick" factor, that wasn't dark at all.

Nice sort of twist, is I guess what I'm saying.

I also do like the Ekka scene though. In part because of my tendency to enjoy yuri ships.

ah that was a hilarious moment. where eridu is basically treating the priestess like shes some dead insect or roadkill. but i also like within the comedy you see a really blunt and significant view into how she views humans

Amun was cool, it was a good way to advance the plot, I'm not always keen on the laid back types though, heh.

Yeah, roadkill's kind of a good word the way that happened. ^.^

It's really interesting the way it's developed in first person overall too.

Reminds me a bit of a picture book, but the first person is a different take on that too.

for the record you mean 2nd person. first person is "I do this thing" second person is "you do this thing"

but yeah this is probably the first 2nd person comic ive run into. im interested to see where it goes cause 2nd person is generally the more difficult pov to make work but theres also a lot of potential for creative stuff

yeah it does work. although i also like that the comic has tons of silent moments that just let the visuals speak for themselves. because these are definitely some gorgeous visuals!

another scene i really like is when eridu shows up back on the island and all the green sprouts. cause its beautiful imagery. but im also haunted with questions about what happened to those two people who were watching

Oh yeah, that was great. Goddess of amazing entrances or the like - though we saw the real one later on. ^.^ In retrospect, I feel like that made sense too, with humans being a footnote that she hadn't even expected to be there.

Though I do wonder about them too.

Maybe they were worshippers.

QUESTION 2. After a 1200 year slumber, the Goddess Eridu finds the world quite different. Besides people being on her island, what else do you think will be a culture shock for Eridu? Do you think she’ll be able to adjust to all the changes, or will she refuse to accept them and continue to try to return the status quo? What do you think the other divine aspects have been up to over the years? Do you think more will be glad to see Eridu, like Ekka, or will more act like Amun and not care? Do you believe Eridu will manage to gain back her divine powers, or will something prevent her? Overall, how do you think this journey might change Eridu’s perspective on her divinity, on humans, or anything else? What will that change (or lack of change) mean for Eridu’s future actions?

I wonder if technology exists on a world where Gods/Goddesses are just wandering around.

depends on how we want to define technology. like for instance back when the world was young a loom would technically count as technology just cause it was a machine for advanced tasks.

im gonna laugh if eridu gets to a village and like theres electric lights everywhere. and she flips a light switch on and off wondering how humans came upon such magic and which god gave it to them

i feel regardless technology would advance

since if eridu can be considered a look into the average god/goddess than they probably mostly just ignore humans

unless theyre like "man i feel like being worshipped today"

Well, that's a fair point. I guess I feel like if you can just ask a god to turn on the lights, there's not much need to do the inventing.

I also kind of wonder if one of the divine aspects is what put Paradise to sleep in the first place. Like, maybe was in league with that Enki new God type.

Unless Enki turns out to be a posturing human that the divine aspect was using as a puppet or something.

Also, this is a small island in the middle of nowhere. Maybe the mainland is rather different in terms of society.

this is also a large possibility. i considered that too. that whatever the island is it might not be representative of the world. honestly it could be argued the island has more old world values even cause theyre the only ones with a shrine left

but yeah the twist, i just wouldnt think itd be possible cause the divine aspects are like parts of herself. so itd be hard to imagine one getting powerful enough to oust her. but that is what would make a twist like that so interesting cause it seems so unlikely

i think as far as the aspects though were gonna meet more amun's than ekka's XD not necessarily as laid back as amun, but more like they moved on in life/got bored

Might not be old world values as much as it's just new gods have taken over everywhere and they haven't gotten around to dealing with the island yet.

I kinda thought about the parts of self thing... but isn't there a part of ourselves that we sometimes hate, and wish we could get rid of? And the Goddess doesn't seem like she'd be the nicest person to that part of herself, maybe. Though who knows, I may be way off.

I wonder if some of the others might also be asleep, or be serving other goddesses or something.

the impression im getting is theyre all in their inner sanctums. so cant exactly serve anyone if theyre stuck there. and i also doubt they would cause i dont get the impression they think eridu is dead

thats like declaring loyalty to the assistant manager while the manager is on vacation

QUESTION 3. The largest mystery presented in the story is why Eridu slept for so long. Who do you think forced Eridu (and her spirit aspects) away from the physical plane? What do you think the reasons were? Was it someone trying to do away with Eridu, or was it for some larger, greater good purpose? Does whoever Enki is have something to do with it? Or is Enki just some innocent bystander who was mistakenly identified as the one who created Eridu’s island? What do you think will happen when Eridu finally runs into Enki? Also, considering Eridu was already forced away from the realm, do you believe this could easily happen to her again? What is stopping the culprit from banishing Eridu back?

I feel like Enki is more an opportunist than the one who engineered everything or totally innocent. Though we've yet to meet him.

Kind of like the Wizard of Oz, in a way?

i definitely think thats a distinct possibility. im on the page enki isnt this malicious entity and i dont think enki is responsible for what happened to eridu

but maybe enki is no one. maybe hes just some human who found the island and said "hey my dudes lets live here this island is great." and then as history usually goes stories got exaggerated and eventually a human of great deeds became a god

Oooh, maybe. Like, he doesn't actually exist anymore but put lots of things in place so people wouldn't realize that. (Makes me think of some societies from Star Trek.)

I guess I just feel like that's too obvious of a solution. Goddess blaming the person who's actually behind it. I expect a twist, like how there weren't originally humans on the island.

I hadn't considered Kur as having a part in it. That's interesting.

Enki could also be the one behind it, but he was told to do it by Kur, or someone else.

Incidentally, I like the map feature. That's clever. Tracking the path over the island.

i like to think the reason eridu was sent away was not to do away with her. like maybe eridu did something bad she doesnt remember (or didnt consider bad). like flood some other god's island that got too close to hers. only that island was heavy populated already.

QUESTION 4. Eridu’s arrival seems to coincide with several “coincidences” within the story. Why was the Dragon-God Kur also slumbering for at least 1000 years? Is it somehow related to Eridu, or was it for a separate reason? Why has Kur woken up early? Also, what is Ekka making for Kur that he even goes to the effort of sending Eridu to help get it? Further, we see a few other gods talking about Kur. Why is Shulsa seeking out Kur so desperately? What exactly could go “badly” that Zida leaves to prepare for it? Also, who is Daiard looking to settle a score with? Lastly, why do you think the priestess of Enki was conveniently near where Eridu crashed? Was that just a coincidence, or was she there for a related reason to Eridu?

Kur forgot to hit the snooze alarm. Or whatever the equivalent is. (Oh, maybe that's what they were bringing to him...) I'm also not sure what to make of the interlude. Does make it clear that there are other Gods around, the Priestess wasn't making things up or delusional or something.

Maybe Enki told the Priestess to go there because of all the vegetation.
