Author’s Note: What’s up, sluts? I’m back. This is NSFW, so beware.

Sukuna did regularly mention that domination and conquest were his pastime hobbies and you would tentatively add that he adhered to them with slave-like zealotry. Whenever he insulted Itadori Yuji by calling him simple-minded, your heart ached with the desire to tell him that he was not any greater regarding his obsessions with strength. However, your self-preservation kept you alive, since a bitch that talks back to Sukuna is a bitch that gets their head separated from their body, after all.
Having sex with Sukuna is somehow leagues safer than speaking to him, you thought, gaze surveying how the apex of his back muscles cast shades upon the trenches of his spine. Inhalation, the shadows grew and deepened. Exhalation, the light re-conquered its territory. You suspected he never slept, even though he physically seemed in deep slumber. His arms were splayed on his pillow, face turned away from you.
You had self-preservation to save your ass 99 percent of the time – this time was probably that one percent where he would snap.
“Sukuna,” you called out, very lightly stroking his biceps with your nails. No answer, but his arm muscles flexed subtly as he moved his arm.  “I want my side of the bed back. I can’t sleep on this side.”
You let out a shriek when his hand shot out at you, palm plastered over your lips. The sharp edge of his index nail hovered uncomfortably close to your eye, the thumb nail piercing your cheek. Out of reflex, your dug your fingertips into his upper arm and attempted to pull away from his show of force.
Sukuna turned his head to face you. His eyes glared with disinterest, though his grasp weakened slightly.
“You’ve been plenty loud during the night; why must you continue now?” he asked, squeezing your cheeks together to allow you to speak.
“I’ve slept like three hours max,” you said, ignoring his question.
“That is not my problem.” He let go of your face to return to his original position. “Go find somewhere else to sleep and I shall wake you whenever I have need of you.”
What an absolute dickhead. This was your bed, not his domination playground.
You released him and patted your face with your fingers carefully. There were no stinging scratches left behind, which was good considering his reasoning that if ‘you weren’t bleeding out, you didn’t need help’ would leave you with annoying scabs everywhere. Why you were even fucking this guy was beyond you, honestly. This was one of the top 3 worst life choices you had ever made.
You slid towards him beneath the covers and supported your upper body with your ribcage on his lower back and elbows on his upper back. His body heat intermingling with yours gave you a dull ache, from behind your breastbone flowing into a tidepool in the pit of your stomach. After pushing your hair to one side of your neck, you lowered yourself onto him. Your lips wet and breath hot across his skin, you blew softly before planting a kiss below his shoulder blade. Had it been another person under you, you would have had the gratification of seeing goosebumps forming across the area.
“Sukuna…” you said, barely audible between his skin and your lips.
The King of Curses arose from his relaxed position. “Did you not listen or are you an idiot?”
“Bit of both, to be perfectly honest.” You pinched a tuft of his hair strands between two fingers, pulling gently. “You don’t need to do anything – I just want your attention.”
He issued you a warning glare, daring you to pull some weird shit on him.
You shrugged one of your shoulders and gave him a lopsided smile. “It’s not like I can hurt you, right? I don’t have sharp claws.” To testify, you released his hair, buried your nails below his neck and dragged them down his back in one stroke. Four faint lines were left behind, a stylistic contrast to his dark markings. “I don’t have superhuman strength or speed.” You felt the muscular ridges above his ribs, your fingers travelling up and down each rib. “At my worst, I’m just very obnoxious.”
“How self-aware,” he mocked and laughed half-heartedly. He seemed to enjoy your tiny monologue, judging by the slight raise of his eyebrows. “Continue.”
His approval increased your confidence. While you scoured your brain for whatever concept that might amuse or interest him, you broke eye contact and directed your thumb to pad the black line running along his back. You followed it up to the crest of his shoulders and pulled yourself up over his torso. A low growl hummed beneath you, indicating that perhaps you were pushing your luck. When you brought your left hand down his chest the sound reverberated through your being, reminding you that you were not the apex predator in here. His eagerness showed as he willingly moved his hand into your range when you struggled to reach it.
“Look,” you said, just as eager to sate his curiosity, “at the difference.”
With his attention on your hand enveloping his, you settled your head on his shoulder, finally eye to eye with the King of Curses. You shifted so that your palms met. Even when ignoring his nails, his long fingers and thick wrist eclipsed yours. Finger pads with rough callouses created in combat, the evidence of a reign of lasting a millennium. You could feel the wisdom beneath your soft pads; you could’ve devoted your entire life to warfare and your hands would still not understand it the way his do.
“You know, I never used to consider myself a small person,” you lied, your voice perfectly stable, “but now I am not so sure anymore. It is quite overwhelming.”
Sukuna’s head tilted towards yours, almost tenderly grazing his cheek against your jawline. The movement gave you shivers, causing your toes to curl. You had no option but trusting his self-control when he dove below your jaw and put his lips to your neck. He sucked the flesh between his lips, occasionally tasting with his tongue.
You sighed, content for the brief attention you had earned. Sukuna’s heartbeat rate did not increase nor decrease beneath your hand, his chest just as firm. He detached from your neck, his saliva cooling down that particular spot. You were on the brink of complaining when the world swirled around and your back hit the mattress, your chest and stomach feeling the room’s chill without Sukuna’s body heat.
Sukuna was not playing around anymore; he aligned his forearms beside your face and blocked off whatever else existed outside with his mere presence, lips taut and eyes alert. He situated his torso on top of yours and separated your thighs with his knee. Not close enough to grind on.
“Tell me more,” he stared you down. “What does being completely outmatched feel like?”
You wondered if he meant how it physically felt or how the emotional part of being outmanned and outgunned felt like. Considering how his empathic ability was low-functioning to non-existing, you wanted to bet your money on a physical description… Yet, your tongue prepared to tell him about the terror and the uncertainty. It was not wise to divulge such details to Sukuna.
Scheherazade’s silver tongue might have saved her life a thousand and one times but not everyone’s talent was located in their mouth cavity. Like always, your hands bought you more time to think, to evaluate your words. You tentatively reached for his collarbones before changing your mind and guiding one hand to his lips. Perhaps he had meant to kiss your fingertips, perhaps he had yet another inquiry but his lower lip separated from his upper one and you cautiously pulled it downwards. A predator’s teeth greeted you.
“I can’t say it without sounding lame,” you said and crossed your arms across your chest. “Don’t laugh.”
Almost immediately, Sukuna leaned his weight on one forearm, allowing him to use the other to restrain your hand against the mattress. “I assure you,” he said, his eyes staring lazily at you, lids half-down, “you are not that funny.”
Suddenly, you wished Itadori Yuji would regain his consciousness to not have to deal with this asshole. Kind, encouraging Yuji would worship your existence. Perhaps you would eventually have learned to worship him in turn. ‘Learning’ being the key word, of course. You would fumble in the dark while attempting to appreciate him. This seemed like a good idea for about three seconds and then you returned to your occult god.
“I want to be inside you.” Sukuna, no longer interested in your thoughts, showed more interest in your body. He seldomly spoke of his wants, rousing your curiosity and – honestly – your arousal. The thigh between your leg shifted closer to your mound, touching your nether lips softly.
“You’re so demanding,” you complained, ending your sentence with a deep sigh. “You want me to be quiet, you want me to talk, you want to be inside me – will you ever be satisfied?”
You rolled your hips upwards in a slow movement, enjoying yourself as your lips parted against his flesh. It did not please you enough, so you continued to alleviate yourself.
“No.” His voice  was unusually quiet. His lower lip brushed yours as he spoke. “Do you think you deserve it?”
You moved your chin downwards, the movement nearly imperceptible for someone who was not expecting it.
“I agree… if it’ll keep you quiet,” he said, releasing your arm to steady himself above you.
And you did keep quiet. Although he remained stone-faced, Sukuna seemed attentive to the way you opened your mouth and frowned in frustration, his crimson gaze traversing across your face.
He angled his hips downwards, pressuring your clit as you ground against him. You had never been more thankful for the things he did than when he let you use his body as a tool to get off. Each upwards motion elected a pang of pleasure, a beach in ebb and flow.
You don’t know for how long he tolerated your grinding but your lower body ached and his thigh was slick with your fluid when he removed his leg from you, its absence pulsating throughout your stomach. Despite your fear that he would push you away, you grabbed onto his neck to heave yourself against him, anything to regain that comfort. The relief that accompanied the heartbeat after he brought you up with him to sit upright lightened your entire being. His hands felt excruciatingly hot, almost unbearably so, on your ribcage.
Although you felt ready for him, your grip on his neck remained hard as he lifted you up above his cock. Sukuna descended you slightly, his tip bulging at your entrance. You knew your limit and didn’t hesitate to sink onto him, a movement less gentle than you wished due to your legs being wrapped around his waist. Your breath was uneven, hitching up whenever you strained against him. Avoiding getting your insides impaled by a guy’s dick was surprisingly hard labour. Eventually you settled at his base, a sense of completion glowing off you.
There were no comforting touches or encouraging words from Sukuna, whose tranquil expression made him seem more like Yuji than himself. His eyes almost shut, jaw relaxed... This was the alternate universe version of Sukuna, a man who did not lust for domination and who would settle down with his loved ones for an eventless life.
Hearing your dumb fantasies echo in your head, you rubbed your eyes with your knuckles until you saw stars. What idiocy. You had to cease these daydream scenarios or you’d be in deep shit in the future. You were an atrocious cultist.

The Springs of Life
"Welcome to the Springs of Life, a healing center for the soul. Please feel free to take a pamphlet on our activity offerings, and may your healing be swift and kind."
A pale blue pamphlet with a printed cloud motif was set into Wei Ying's hands. It felt glossy under his fingertips. It crinkled slightly under the pressure of his thumb and forefinger. Just as it began to crinkle, he had the sudden urge to smooth it out again. He pulled his hand slowly across the pamphlet, giving his best attempt at pulling it flat again. No matter how hard he tried, however, it wouldn't return to its original state.
He pursed his lips, choosing instead to pull his focus from his hands to the waiting room he stood in.
The whiteness of the room was probably intended to be neutral and soothing, but to Wei Ying it was a blindingly bright reminder of everything that was wrong with him. The soft blues of the furniture did little to offset it. There was soft music playing in the background, the kind that they typically played at spas to relax the customers. But Wei Ying wasn't a customer, he was a patient; and this wasn't a spa, it was an inpatient facility.
There were others in the lobby, but they blurred together without recognition. Families. Loved ones. People there to support the other patients' journeys to healing. It was uncomfortable. Wei Ying's lungs suddenly felt a bit too heavy. He swallowed audibly, turning back to face his sister who had been checking him in at the front desk all the while. "I... I don't really need to be here. It's for broken souls. Mine's fine. I'm fine. Everything is good. All I need is my job, my life, my family... I don't need... whatever this is."
Wei Ying's hand slightly shook. He hid it behind his back, desperately hoping that no one saw.
Jiang Cheng turned from where he was filling out paperwork to roll his eyes. "It's good for you, idiot. Just... go heal or whatever. Your life will be there when you come back."
"He's right. You need to go and heal yourself from the inside out. Then you can come back and be the happy whole A-Ying you used to be." Jiang Yanli said softly, worry evident in her kind gaze.
Guilt bubbled in Wei Ying's gut. He was fine. Really. He didn't need the white rooms and soothing music and soft blue furniture. His soul would be fine. Sure, thing's had gotten bad. But he always stepped up before, who was to say he wouldn't do so now? Still... he didn't want to worry his sister any more than he already was. He'd made a mistake. He should have powered through it all instead of moping in his apartment without leaving for three weeks straight. He shouldn't have let his family know how bad he was getting. He could handle it. Really. Most days, at least...
"Just take the help." Jin Zixuan said, scrunching up his nose. "This is the best soul-healing center in the country. Think of it as a paid-for vacation and come back after you're good and healed."
A mandatory vacation. Thought Wei Ying. He shot a look at his brother-in-law, but nodded in agreement all the same.
It's not like he wanted this. It's not like he wanted any of this to happen, for anything to lead to him standing where he was at that moment. He closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath and clenching his jaw just to feel the discomfort of it. It distracted him from the discomfort in his brain.
Jiang Yanli hugged Wei Ying. "Take good care of yourself in here. I'll miss you lots and lots the whole time. And then I'll cook you a big dinner when you get out. Okay?"
It wasn't okay. He didn't need to be there. He didn't want to be there. He was going to be left alone with a bunch of broken souls and have to force himself through class after class that attempted to soothe him, but only made him all the more unsettled. There was no fixing Wei Ying. Whatever he was, it was there to stay. Taking him into the facility was like signing away the last of his freedom. He truly doubted that he'd ever leave again.
"Okay." He found himself agreeing robotically. Funny, the things he'd agree to when his sister asked.
What could he do? They were the ones that broke down his door, that pulled him out of the burrito of covers on his bed, that forced him to shower for the first time in weeks. They were the ones that force-fed him, clothed him, led him to the car and away from everything Wei Ying had ever known. What could he do if his family no longer wanted to put up with him, with his shortcomings, and would prefer to send him off to some old facility to become someone else's problem?
A man in white scrubs opened the door from the lobby to the inpatient facility with a soft scrape across the floor and a soft thud as it his the door-stop. The soft sounds reverberated across the forefront of Wei Ying's mind. Everything else became white noise. Whatever his family was saying, whatever music was playing, whatever noise the other families seemed to be making, all of it became a low rumble. He heard the squeak of the door hinges, the swallow of his own throat, the tapping of someone's fingernails upon the front desk counter.
The man in white scrubs called out Wei Ying's name. He barely recognized the sound.
They made their goodbyes. Jiang Yanli cried some more and held him close. Jiang Cheng hugged him briefly. Jin Zixuan offered him a supportive nod of the head. And then Wei Ying was escorted through the big white doors that led to the inpatient part of the facility. And his family? They were gone.
This is a good thing. Wei Ying repeatedly told himself no matter how much he disbelieved it. He repeated the phrase over and over again like a mantra as he followed the man in white scrubs down the hallway. By the time he reached the end, he still didn't believe it.
Intake was a bit invasive. While they didn't do anything as untoward as a cavity search, they drew blood and took vitals and asked incredibly personal questions. They all seemed to blur together into a single block of mushed up dialogue in his memory, difficult to pick anything individual out. The female nurse in white scrubs scribbled notes on a clipboard as she asked her typical questions. They came out of her automatically, in a rote sort of way that only came from extended repeated use.
"Do you have any known triggers that could have caused the soul break?" She asked.
"No." Wei Ying responded automatically. There was nothing. Nothing was bad. Nothing was wrong. It was just the same old situations Wei Ying always found himself in. It was Wei Ying himself that was wrong.
"Any mental illnesses?" She checked another box in the sheet.
"How is that relevant?" He asked a bit more defensively than intended.
"Mental illness, when run unchecked, can cause distress to the soul." She explained. "Sometimes, if it gets bad enough, it can lead to a soul break. It is very common, especially in your age demographic."
"..."
Wei Ying didn't want to say it. Saying it made it real. Saying it was like admitting to weakness, like he needed all of this crazy expensive soul help. Which he didn't. He was fine. There was nothing off about him that wasn't off already. Nothing new happened. It was just Wei Ying. It was who he was as a person. There was nothing a bit of soul classes was going to do to change that.
"We can request medical records from the psychiatrist your guardians listed on your intake forms, but it would be easier for everyone involved if you just tell us outright. Not knowing how your brain chemistry will react to any sort of treatment can hinder your progress and leave you staying with us longer than necessary." The nurse said.
"..." Wei Ying released a heavy sigh, not even bothering to plaster on his typical sunny smile. These people evidently wouldn't be fooled, and he hardly had the energy for it anyhow. "The B word is scary, I know I know. But I'm really fine. I've got it under control. It's not... I'm fine. I'm good."
"The B word?" The nurse raised an eyebrow.
"... Bipolar disorder. Type II." He muttered under his breath.
The intake nurse nodded. "Any co-morbidities?"
Wei Ying pursed his lips. "Anxiety. ADHD. Insomnia. You know, the whole buy one mental illness get three free deal. But really. It's fine. I've been dealing with this for years. It's nothing I can't handle."
"It's not about how much you can handle. You are very strong for getting this far, and very brave for making the steps to see us today. It is not easy to accept that a soul has been broken, but getting to the point of admitting the problem and seeking treatment is already the first step to recovery."
Wei Ying made a face, but said nothing. The nurse continued.
"Do you have a soulmate?"
"No."
Ah, soulmates. Those uncommon-but-not-unheard-of special other halves that match your own very soul. It was one of those things that everyone knew someone who knew someone that had one, but most people never had direct exposure to one. Which honestly, was probably for the best. While a soul break would not necessarily cause damage to the other half of your soulmate pair, if both souls broke at the same time it could cause what was known as a "Complete Soul Split." It was the most dangerous form of soul-breaking. Not only could it cause permanent damage to the souls themselves when left unchecked, like the lesser individual or "partial" soul breaks, it could also cause damage to the delicate soul bond between the pair of soulmates. In worst cases, bond-severing and even death.
But that wasn't a concern for Wei Ying. He didn't have a soulmate, for one. And even if he somehow had one, which he didn't, he'd have to be unlucky enough to have broken his soul at the same time as Wei Ying. Which was... incredibly statistically unlikely. Soul breaks happened, but even they weren't that common of occurrences. The odds would have to have completely been stacked against him, and even he wasn't that unlucky.
Besides, he didn't have to worry. He was fine. Really.
"Okay then, everything seems to be in order. The door behind me leads to the common area. Feel free to get to know the other guests at your own comfort level. We will be serving dinner at six."
Wei Ying rose and left the nurse behind, but he chose not to interact with the other "guests." There were several people crowded around a table playing cards, another group quietly taking markers to coloring sheets, and a third circled around a quiet subtitled television. Everything in the room was the same color schemes as all the rooms before it, white in walls and pale blue in furniture. It did little to settle Wei Ying's unease. He watched a clock on the wall, eying the minute hand as it moved ever-so-slightly with each passing second. He found the rhythm oddly calming, as if it were the one thing left of the outside world that could keep him from drifting away into the cloud-like rooms of the inpatient facility.
Despite typically being an outgoing person, Wei Ying couldn't find it in himself to put on his happy facade. He wished to be alone, to hide away from the world as he once did in his apartment. He couldn't do that yet, however. He hadn't received his room assignment yet.
He found himself drawn to the empty pale-blue living chairs in the back corner of the room. It was slightly darker there, as if the light couldn't fully reach it. Wei Ying immediately liked that about it. There was a man sitting in one of the chairs, reading a novel in utter silence. He liked that too. The man sitting in there was calm, quiet, peaceful. He simply sat in a perfect upright position and turned the pages of his book every-so-often. Wei Ying found his place at the man's side, leaving a chair's space between them out of courtesy.
Wei Ying may have been known to be bold and tactile, but he found that that part in him had diminished along with his soul. He pulled his knees in to his chest, closing his eyes and resting his head upon his knees. Time passed between them. Wei Ying found that he felt comfort in the man's presence. The man was grounding, a constant that neither moved nor spoke, a hand to grip Wei Ying before he floated away.
They remained like that as time continued to move around them, stuck in their own bubbles of comfort. Eventually, the intake nurse in white scrubs found Wei Ying and pulled him back into her office. As he stood to leave, however, the man with the book looked up at him. They caught each other's gaze for a moment, something slight sparking in the abyss of their eyes. He was beautiful, that comforting man. His clothing matched the rest of the facility in color palette, but was distinctly stylish. A soft flowing somewhat-sheer blouse in light blue sat over a white tank and white jeans. Had they been permitted to wear shoes, Wei Ying imagined that he would probably have chosen white for them as well. His look was completed with a pale blue ribbon tying up the top half his shoulder-length black hair.
A tap on his shoulder pulled Wei Ying's gaze from the man in blue. He offered the man a soft smile that didn't reach his eyes. The man returned the favor with an expressionless nod of his head. He followed the nurse back into her office, taking a seat as he stared at yet more white walls.
Cleaning this place must have been a bitch.
"Mr. Wei," The nurse interrupted his straying thoughts. "The results of your physical examination indicated something irregular. We ran the blood test as a precaution to rule out anything unusual, but it unfortunately confirmed what we initially suspected. We are happy to inform you that you do, in fact, have a soulmate. Regrettably, you and your soulmate have both experienced circumstances dire enough to cause a Complete Soul Split."
Wei Ying blinked. What? A soulmate? Him? How could he, out of all of the people in the entire world, get the unluckiest draw? Wasn't it enough that his soul was already broken? Did life truly have to gift him a soulmate only to have them ripped from him before they could even meet?
Well, what did he expect, really? This was Wei Ying. Literal human disaster. False genius. Faker of ingenuity. Speaker of tall tales. Of course he couldn’t have simply just not had a soulmate. Of course life had to tear him down just that much further.
Wei Ying suddenly felt very small and very empty. Very small and empty indeed.
"Your treatment period will need to be lengthened to accommodate your new diagnosis, but not to worry. You won't be alone. We have another guest that will be attending the specialized classes for Complete Soul Splits along with you. Ideally, you would go through the classes along with your soulmate so that you can heal together to avoid re-splitting. Is there anyone you can think of, anyone at all that could potentially be your soulmate? Anyone that you felt even a slight pull towards even if you met them in passing? Having the pair of you heal together can speed up the process and help mitigate some of the potentially permanent effects."
Wei Ying shook his head. There was no one. He was as alone as always. Just Wei Ying stuck in a head full of swirling, racing, stampeding thoughts.
☀︎
Dinner was an uneventful affair. The food was about as exciting as the decor, and Wei Ying pushed it around on his plate for the majority of the lunch hour rather than actually eating. He searched for the pretty man from before, the one that he'd shared that oddly intimate gaze with. The man was nowhere to be found, however, and Wei Ying had little energy to try and join in the conversations at the pristine white tables surrounding him.
He knew it wasn’t like himself to be withdrawn. He was social, enigmatic, friendly, and exciting. He lived for conversation and never shut up and genuinely enjoyed being around people. Typically, at least. When he wasn’t holed away in his apartment during a bad depressive cycle.
Perhaps his Complete Soul Split had done more of a number on him than he initially expected. Could a soul break... really change the core of a human to that extent? To make them a shell of their former self? Or perhaps it was his former self that was the shell, and this empty mess of a person was who he truly was all along. It was a disheartening thought.
Wei Ying followed slowly behind the crowd of broken souls as they exited the dining hall, making his way back to the chairs he’d first sat in after his arrival. The pretty man was nowhere to be found, but he found himself seeking the comfort of the chairs nonetheless. It was easier to stick to himself, far from the crowds. He was safe there in his loneliness, blessed to be free from the obligation of pretending to be anything but the broken human he knew himself to truly be.
He spaced out for a while, following trails of thoughts that tumbled about and went nowhere and everywhere at the same time. He detachedly observed the tables at which people were playing cards and games. It looked fun in a distant sort of way, as if it was fun in concept but couldn’t exactly be applied to him personally.
Eventually, after an indeterminate amount of time had passed, the patients were gathered for a group therapy class. It was set in a moderately-sized room with couches and chairs lining the walls to create a sort-of circle for the patients to sit in. Wei Ying immediately sought out a chair in a corner that was pushed slightly further back than the neighboring couch and chair.
Once the patients had finished filtering in, Wei Ying finally caught sight of a familiar face. The man in white and blue silently took a seat across the room from Wei Ying, giving Wei Ying a small nod of the head before turning his attention to his hands in his lap.
Though no emotion crossed his blank face, Wei Ying couldn’t help but to feel somewhat comforted by the simple gesture. It was nice having an ally in this cloud-like atmosphere. It was... grounding, in a minute way. Just as it had been earlier that day. As if the man’s very presence gently grasped Wei Ying’s sleeve and pulled his drifting head from the endless ethers and back into reality.
The class began with the instructor introducing himself as Xie Lian, a licensed therapist with a specialization in soul healing and (more importantly) a survivor of a Complete Soul Split. There were a few gasps amongst the crowd, the newer patients evidently not having had worked with Xie Lian yet.
The man in the sheer light blue blouse didn’t bother looking up from where his gaze lay upon his hands. His blank expression seemed somewhat somber despite its indifferent appearance, and a small part of Wei Ying longed to reach out a hand to gently touch the man’s face in a show of comfort. That part was, fortunately, reigned in by the physical distance and societal convention separating them.
“We have a lot of new faces with us today.” Xie Lian smiled. “Well, let me welcome you to the Springs of Life. We’re all here for a common goal, right? We all came here from different places in our lives to try and heal ourselves. Healing is such a powerful act, and together I hope we can find the strength in each other to help lift ourselves up.”
A few faces nodded in agreement. Wei Ying remained as he was. He highly doubted any amount of happy words and supportive surroundings would be able to bring him back from a Complete Soul Split. His own sister couldn’t manage to do it so far, and she was the living embodiment of positivity and support.
No, Wei Ying was certain. Certain that he would never truly be able to recover.
Xie Lian handed each patient a blank sheet of paper and a brightly-colored marker. "Today," He began. "We will be compiling a list. You may list as many or as few things as you like. Today's topic will be 'Obstacles.' I would like each and every one of you to jot down a few of the obstacles impeding your life from getting to where you want it to be. What is getting in the way of your healing? Of your progress? Of your goals? What obstacles have led you to this very room?"
Wei Ying popped the cap off of his blue marker, but somehow couldn't manage to touch the ink to the paper. He glanced around the room, eyeing where the other patients were obediently scribbling away. His gaze returned yet again to the pretty man in the pale blue blouse. The man popped the cap off of his red marker, expressionlessly wrote down a single word upon his piece of paper, and then closed the cap once again. Wei Ying returned his attention to his own paper. He sighed deeply and began to write.
1. My brain
It was his sick brain, after all, that had gotten him into this mess. If he only could've held it together, or if he hadn't had to bother with mental illness in the first place, his soul most certainly wouldn't have broken. His life was fine. Everything else was fine. It was just Wei Ying that wasn't.
2. My soulmate
This issue was, in part, due to his soulmate as well. The pair of them created a
Complete Soul Split
together, which most likely is what incapacitated Wei Ying in the first place. So it made sense, then, that his soulmate was partially to blame. Deep down he knew that such projections were childish. It was not as if his soulmate chose to break his soul, just as Wei Ying did not choose to break his. But a far more childish and petty part of Wei Ying's mind enjoyed having someone else to blame. To resent. To feel bitterness towards. Even so, Wei Ying found that writing those two words did not bring him any comfort.
3. My-
He hesitated. There were a million things he could put in that place, but ultimately only one held truth. He scratched through the first three points on his list and instead started anew. He wrote upon the page only one single thing:
Myself
For ultimately, it did not matter that his brain was sick or that his soulmate caused him potentially irreparable damage. It did not matter his relationships with his family and friends, nor did it matter his place of residence. It did not even matter whether or not he enjoyed his job. And... he did. Sort of. Most days. He enjoyed the flexibility of freelance work. He loved creating new designs, even if they had to be constrained to the requests of his clients. He took great pleasure in lording the fact that he didn't have to go into an actual office over his brother's head.
But none of that mattered. Wei Ying's greatest obstacle, as always, was ultimately himself.
Eventually, the caps of the markers closed and Xie Lian stood with a soft smile upon his face. "Good, good. I'm glad to see everyone feeling so participatory this evening. Now anyone who would like to is free to share some of what they put upon their list. Some people may feel the need to protect their privacy, and that is also okay! But for those of you that feel like sharing, we can go around the room counter-clockwise. I will begin with one from my own list."
Xie Lian took in a deep breath and continued. "A large obstacle in my life right now is conflict between those closest to me. It makes me feel obligated to step in and fix things, but that is not always the healthiest or most needed step of action."
The patients nodded in understanding. Then the person to Xie Lian's right declined. A few patients here and there began to share things from their own lists: poor communication, a dead-end job, an unfaithful spouse, etc. Wei Ying had begun to tune them all out when he found himself being asked to share. He stared upon the single word on his own list, looked back up at Xie Lian, and shook his head. The moment passed, and other patients began to share their own obstacles as well.
The attention made its way around the circle, eventually reaching the man in the light blue blouse that had yet to look up from the paper in his hands since he first wrote it.
"Mr. Lan?" Xie Lian asked. "Would you like to share any of what you've written with us?"
The man in the light blue blouse, Mr. Lan, slowly looked up from his piece of paper. His eyes met Wei Ying's for a single electrifying moment before he turned to look at Xie Lian. He then turned his piece of paper around for all to see.
Wei Ying couldn't help but to gasp. He'd thought the man attractive, surely. And electric. Magnetic, even, one could say. But he was also cold and distant, untouchable in an indescribably distant way. Yet, somehow, this man that appeared to float amongst the very clouds that formed the motif running about the Springs of Life had come to the very same conclusion that Wei Ying had.
Mr. Lan had written a single word in large red strokes:
Myself
Wei Ying studied the man's blank face, searching for any sort of explanation as to why he'd answered the same. When the man offered none, Wei Ying flipped over his own sheet of paper. The man's eyes widened and his jaw dropped ever-so-slightly, creating a small 'o' between his lips. They shared an electric gaze fueled with curiosity. They remained locked in their shared silence for several moments before Xie Lian cleared his throat and re-diverted the attention back to the class at hand.
"Thank you, thank you. Anything either of you would like to elaborate on that tonight before we move on?"
Both Wei Ying and Mr. Lan shook their heads. Xie Lian gave the last few patients a few moments to speak before the attention finally circled back to him. "Good, good. Now then, next I would like each and every one of you to take the paper within your hands. Now imagine that this paper holds the very obstacles you listed. Good. Envision it. Feel it. Believe it. Now take the paper and tear it to your heart's content. Don't hold back. Really let those obstacles have it!"
The sounds of ripping and shredding sounded throughout the room as everyone appeared to rather enthusiastically fight their problems. Wei Ying's eyes met Mr. Lan's. There was almost a... twinkle of amusement in his tired eyes. It certainly was odd to ask the pair of them to tear up representations of themselves, but in a way Wei Ying supposed that might have been exactly what he wanted. He ripped the paper. Tore it. Decimated it to smaller and smaller bits. It certainly was cathartic, even if the metaphor was probably not what Xie Lian intended. Mr. Lan ripped his own as well, albeit in a much more calm and organized fashion. Wei Ying found his own amusement in the action.
After all of the obstacles had been good and obliterated, Xie Lian began to hand out a second sheet of paper.
"Now then," He began. "Let's start the next bit by writing down how we can see our lives with our obstacles no longer holding us back. Really dig dip and envision it. I want everyone to really put in the effort to visualize it."
Wei Ying looked upon his blank sheet of paper. What would his life be like if he didn't get in his own way? What would he see? What would he feel? What would he be?
Wei Ying decided that he had no answer to any of those questions. He left the page blank, setting it to the side and bringing his knees into his chest. He spent the rest of the time observing Mr. Lan, who sat long and hard staring at his paper with the slightest furrow in his brow. He noticed that Mr. Lan wrote nothing either.
"All right, all right. Now then, I'll start the sharing and this time we'll go clockwise." Xie Lian instructed. "I envision that when my obstacles are overcome that I will find a more peaceful environment where I can have more group gatherings."
A handful of patients either skipped or shared, then made their way to Mr. Lan. Mr. Lan glanced between his blank sheet of paper, Wei Ying, and Xie Lian. Xie Lian smiled encouragingly. Mr. Lan eventually shook his head, choosing instead to skip his share. Wei Ying didn't miss the slight look of disappointment that crossed Xie Lian's face before he returned once again to his perfectly sunny disposition.
The remainder of the class skipped and shared, but Wei Ying tuned out the noise. His focus was drawn to the white of the walls, the fabric of the chair beneath him, and the silent rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. Wei Ying wasn't sure if or when he was addressed, only returning his focus to the moment at hand when everyone began to stand and filter out of the room. Mr. Lan looked ready to bolt immediately, but Xie Lian called him back to stay behind.
Wei Ying slowly rose to his feet, knowing it was rude to eavesdrop and yet wanting so very badly to know any sort of detail about Mr. Lan. He made his way out as slowly as possible, picking up bits and pieces of dialogue as he made his way out.
"I'm very proud of you sharing today."
"You've gone so long without speaking up that I was worried about the lasting damage to your soul."
"You've made good progress, but you have to be willing to keep going, okay?"
"Your brother sends his regards. Your uncle, too."
The door closed being Wei Ying with a click. Suddenly he was back once again in the main gathering area with all of the other patients. They had resumed their card games and coloring pages, eager to discuss all sorts of unimportant bits of chatter. The sort of useless chatter Wei Ying once loved to partake in.
He sat once again in the chairs in the corner, bringing his knees into his chest and resting his head upon them. This was his life now. This was where he would remain until the facility finally realized that Wei Ying would be an incurable case. Until, perhaps, he even died of Complete Soul Split. He didn't want death, not really. It's just that he didn't much care for life. Not as it was, so empty and banal and draining. Not with the heights of pain and depths of despair. Not when he, and likely his soulmate as well, were broken beyond repair.
Wei Ying closed his eyes, listening for the gentle tick-tock of the clock on the wall opposite him. He could hardly pick out the sound over the noise, but once he managed to isolate it he focused on it and drowned himself in its rhythm.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
The white walls and pale blue furniture that decorated Wei Ying's new life fell away. The sounds of the world around him ceased to exist. It was just Wei Ying and the gentle tick-tocking that grounded him and prevented him from truly flying away.
Tick. Tock.
Tick. Tock.
Tick.
Tock.
The strict rhythm allowed for no error, no manner of mistakes. It was a force to be reckoned with, not a disaster waiting for a moment to go off. It was... everything and nothing at all. Even as Wei Ying fell far enough into his head to disappear, the tick-tocking still stuck to the forefront of Wei Ying's mind. That, and the sight of a soft pale-blue blouse gently blowing in the breeze. Everything else, including Wei Ying himself, momentarily ceased to exist. But the clock and the blouse? They were all that remained in the world.

***Loosely Edited/Proofread***
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
“Oh my god.” Your jaw was dropped and you were spinning around gawking at the two additional stories above you.
 “Yep.”
“Oh my god. Are you serious, prince puppy?”
“As serious as bad head.” Your head snapped to him before you kneeled over and laughed your ass off.
“Oh wait, you found that funny?”
You couldn’t stop laughing long enough to get an answer out, all you could do was nod your head. He smiled and chuckled along with you.
“Oh wow, that’s—great. The last woman I told that joke to said I had a crude sense of humor, told me to grow up.”
You laughed louder and tried to catch your breath. He didn’t mind the eyes of the people as they walked around the two of you. After almost two minutes you finally stopped and stood up.
“Oh my god. Wow. I’ll tell you a secret, I love crude jokes, it’s a naughty habit.”
“Naughty? That’s what you call naughty? Wow, I think we should part ways here fancy, I think I might taint you.”
You snorted and playfully rolled your eyes.
“I can’t tell you the last time I was in a candy store.”
“This is not just any ol’ candy store. This is three levels of sugary heaven. They have every single candy under one roof,” he boasted.
 “Every candy?”
 “Every candy,” he confidently repeated
You looked to be contemplating something as you wandered further into the store looking around at the shelves that held different kinds of candy. You looked like a kid in a literal candy store.
“The best part is you can try every candy here, but you have to try only one piece,” he informed.
You took up one of the tongs and dipped into a clear container of pink and orange sherbet colored gobs. You placed it into your mouth and moaned.
“Oh my god, this is good. It tastes like pink lemonade and rainbow sherbet all in one.” You moaned again and he smiled and took one of the sugar balls and chewed. He nodded his agreement; you were right about the taste.
 “Good taste buds.”
 “Not your favorite huh.”
“Nope.” He walked off leaving you to follow behind.
“Tell you what, let’s play a game,” he suggested.
“What kind of game prince puppy?” He smiled again. You knew he must have been tired of the name and it brought you joy.
“Find my favorite candy and I’ll find your favorite.”
“Uhh—in a store of thousands of different candy?” He nodded with an even bigger smile.
“Ummm, well that sounds like torture. Why would I do that? What’s in it for me?”
“Wow, silly humans and gratification,” he teased. You rolled your eyes but smiled.
“Three guesses, the winner gets to choose what they want.”
 “So anything I want?”
“If you win yes, anything within moderation. You can’t say a million dollars because honey I just don’t have that kind of cash.”
“Eh, money is overrated,” you muttered.
“Spoken like a woman who’s had too much of it her entire life.”
Your eyes locked and neither of you dared back down. After almost a minute he was the one to look away.
“So, do we have a deal?” He held out his hand and you thought about it. looking down to his hand you wanted to touch it even if you didn’t strike the deal. You bit your bottom lip and peered up into his cerulean eyes that held a hint of seductiveness and flirtation. As you stared you took his hand and shook it.
“You have a deal prince puppy.” You then walked off and carefully assessed the contents of the store. “Meet you on the top floor in thirty,” you called out over your shoulder.
He smiled warmly, he loved a challenge and you were a challenge, a mysterious challenge. As he roamed aisle after aisle he thought about your tastes all night. You liked coconut rum, a lot and just now you liked that sweet fruity candy. if he were a guessing man he’d guess you preferred things with a fruity flavor, that narrowed things down but not by much when he thought about the fact the store housed thousands of fruity choices. He wasn’t going to give up though or let on that he was a little lost. With fruity in mind, he decided hard candy was probably a good place to start, so that’s where he went.
You, on the other hand, went right to the soft candy, the chewy stuff. For some reason, you thought this was the right way to go. There was nothing from the night you could use as a good estimated guess. Gin didn’t taste like candy, it tasted like gasoline to you. His breakfast food choices didn’t give anything away either until you stopped and remembered he poured the syrup that was a mixture of two. You didn’t remember what the mixture was though. Without an idea, you perused the shelves and scanned them all thinking of what he may like.
After fifteen minutes you had two possible choices, sour candy straws otherwise known as Sour Powers, and nerds. Who didn’t like Nerds, you thought? Before you knew it your thirty minutes was almost up, and you still had one more to pick. You nonchalantly took a few pieces of the butterscotch hard candies, paid for your assortment and hurried to the top floor.
When you got there, you saw him standing there watching you climb the last step. He tapped his wrist and shook his head.
“Fuckity, fuck.” Everyone around you looked at you as if you were insane.
He let out a loud laugh that echoed throughout the floor, it was a contagious one and soon you were laughing with him. The two of you laughed as if you had not one care in the world. When you finished you slid to the floor and leaned against the glass encloser for the stair railing. He slid beside you and sighed out. “Wow.”
“It’s not my fault I’m late, I don’t have a watch and you made me turn off my phone.”
“Oh whatever, there are clocks posted around this place and you could have easily asked anyone you passed. You’re late. It’s a clear forfeit.”
Your jaw dropped as you stared at him. his eyes dropped to your mouth and he licked his lips. It was a nice mouth.
“Not fair prince puppy.” You pouted and crossed your arms like a child and waited for him to change his mind.
“I’m not going to change my mind. Fair is fair, fancy.”
 You groaned and sighed out.
“So, I’m the winner by default,” he announced.
“You’re the winner by bullshit fine print which is technically cheating. You’re the bullshit winner.” You didn’t mean for it to sound salty, but it did, and he picked up on it and laughed again.
 “Wow. You’re a sore loser.”
When you didn’t respond he caved. “Fine, I am the winner, it’s established and accepted but I do want to see the candy you picked out, go on present.”
You rolled your eyes and peeked into one of the three white confection bags you held. You decided to go with the Nerds first. He took the bag and took them out and smiled.
 “Nerds, yess. I love Nerds.”
 “So they’re your favorite?”
“No, not my favorite, but loved all the same.” He opened the box and took a palmful and tossed them into his mouth then moaned. “So good. It’s been a minute since I’ve had these.” He looked at the box and nodded his head before he looked to you. “What’s next?”
You handed him one of the bags without looking. When he dug in it he produced the package of Sour Power. His eyes lit up.
“No way. Do you know what these are?” You nodded and smiled at his excited demeanor.
“Oh my god, I haven’t had these since middle school. I used to bring these to trade on the playground. My dad could always get the good flavors so I’d produce them, and the other kids would give me really cool stuff in exchange. The clincher is my dad is a dentist, so he was giving me candy.” His smile was wide as he played through the nostalgia. You smiled with him and felt some sort of pull to him. Right now, he seemed relatable.
“So you were the quintessential definition of a drug dealer in middle school.”
 “Drug dealer?”
“Uh yeah, drugs don’t have to be just the illegal kinds. A drug is a substance that is addictive and can cause maladaptive health concerns. So Sour Powers, diabetes, obesity, cavities, you name it. It’s the best-known gateway drug.”
He laughed loudly again, and you smiled and leaned your head back against the glass. His laugh drew tens of eyes, but you didn’t care because it was doing other things to you.
“Wow, yeah. I guess I was a drug dealer. The fluffy white stuff.” More eyes flew to you and you couldn’t help but laugh. They probably thought he was talking about cocaine.
“Not coke people, the other white stuff.” He laughed again and dropped his head onto your shoulder. The action was unexpected but not unwelcomed.
“You are a bad influence,” you added. He looked at you and you met his eyes.
“Are you complaining?” thinking about his question you looked over his face until your eyes landed on his lips. The air between you felt heavy and supercharged, almost electric.
“No,” you whispered. His eyes fell to your lips also and his head moved half an inch toward yours. It was almost missed but you caught it and the sweet smell of his breath, it smelled like the Nerds he’d just had. you knew his mouth would be sweet.
“Attention shoppers, we’ll be closing in fifteen minutes.”
With the start of the announcement the two of you pulled back and looked away until it was finished. He took a straw and held one out to you.
“Thanks.” You chewed it and savored the sweet and sour taste. You loved Sour Powers as a kid too. “I’m guessing it’s not your favorite.”
He smiled and shook his head. “No, but again, loved all the same.” you nodded feeling like you’d struck out.
“Don’t be discouraged, you have one more try. Let’s see it.” you handed him the last bag and he dug out the hard butterscotch candy. a smile tickled his lips but for the most part, he was unreadable.
“Butterscotch. Interesting choice.” He popped one in his mouth and looked off to the shoppers who walked before you. He didn’t speak again, instead, he held out one of the white bags to you. You took it and pulled out skittles. You smiled warmly.
“You seem to like fruity flavors; skittles are the epitome of fruity flavors.” You tore open the bag and dropped a few in. they were good.
 “I like skittles.”
“Ah, like, not love. Okay. Next.” He handed you another bag. This time you took out a blow pop. Your eyes lit up. you loved blow pops. You ripped off the wrapper and smiled as you tasted the cherry goodness.
“Mmm, I love blow pops. My god, I used to put these in my buns going to school. At the start of the day, I’d have four and by the end, I was left with one. Lots of memories with this thing.” When you looked at him you saw his eyes on your mouth as you twirled the sweet treat between your puckered lips. You had an idea where his mind was, men were easy. Playing up the fetish you pulled the lollipop from your mouth and produced a “pop” then you stuck your tongue out and licked it. his eyebrows shot up and you caught a sultry look hidden in his eyes.
He cleared his throat and looked away and looked as if he were struggling for a minute.
 “You okay?” Smiling he nodded.
 “So, favorite?”
“No.” He nodded again and handed you the last bag. You held the lollipop in your mouth at your cheek and the imprint produced a bubble under your skin. When you put your hand in you took a peek and smirked. Pulling it out you held a soft caramel chew. He’d actually found it.
“Caramels.” You took the lollipop out and put one in your mouth and moaned a little too loudly and heartily. You could feel his smile.
“Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner!” he stood and did a victory dance that was atrocious. You laughed and shook your head.
“You’re ridiculous. How did you know?”
He shrugged and held his hand out for you. Taking it he easily pulled you up. “I don’t know. It—seemed right. Who doesn’t like caramels?” You smiled and sighed.
 “Fine. You got it.”
“Don’t be a sore loser. You would have won too.”
Your eyes shot to his, he was smiling again like the Cheshire cat.
 “What? I found it didn’t I?”
 “Butterscotch.”
You grunted and pushed him. “Oh my god, I would have won anyway.”
“If only you weren’t late.” He shrugged but didn’t look as if he felt any sympathy for you.
“All right, I will take this technical lose like a woman. What do you want?”
He stared at you contemplatively for a few moments then placed another butterscotch into his mouth. “I want a new name.”
It was your turn to laugh loudly.
“Of all the things to want and get that is what you wanted the most?”
A caddish look washed over his face and he took a step to you. “What exactly did you have in mind?” You rolled your eyes.
“Doesn’t matter. You chose a new name. Okay. What name do you want prince puppy?”
“You pick it, but I have to like it.” The two of you began walking down the steps as you thought about all the possible choices.
 “Candy ass?”
He snorted and laughed again. “Definitely not, there is nothing candy about my ass.”
 “Hmm, Candyman?”
“No, no, no. My god, I was terrified of that movie when I was a kid,” he exclaimed.
“Oh my god, me too. That and the other one that should never be named.”
“Which one? The one with pins—”
“In his face? Yes!” He nodded along with you and you could have hugged him. No one in your circle felt the same. they just laughed and teased you about it. He was you and you were him.
You walked down the remainder of the steps in silence. When you stepped outside once again you sighed and looked at him.
“Okay, okay, okay, fine. You win. White prince.”
His eyes widened and you could have fallen to the ground laughing.
 “Wow.”
“What? You wanted prince back in the bar, I gave it to you.”
 “And the white part?”
“Sugar, the other white stuff.” He smiled then rubbed his bearded chin and jaw.
“Oh man. You’re not going to make this easy for me are ya?”
You looked him right into his eyes and shook your head. “I’ve never been easy, white prince. If easy is what you want, you’ve got the wrong one.” He slowly licked his bottom lip and gave you a flirtatious smile.
“Good thing I like torture.” He walked away down the street. “Come on fancy, there’s still hope.”

“Rejection”; Chapter Twelve
NOTES: Extra long chapter today to make up for the wait. No swears, and... well, you’ll find out for yourself towards the end of the chapter.  (▰˘◡˘▰) (=゚ω゚)ノ
______________________________________________________________
                                             (The next morning…)
You awoke at around 9:30 to the scent of something sweet. Rubbing the crust from around your eyelids and ruffling your hair, you saw Papyrus setting something down on the kitchen table. It appeared to be… spaghetti. You frowned, and sat up straight. The tall skeleton must have saw your sudden movement, as he rushed over to you. He sat down on the floor beside you, booming out a hello.
You covered your ears, wincing from the loud noise. “GOOD MORNING, SLEEPY HEAD!” Papyrus chuckled, and cocked his head to the side. You smiled from his goofiness, and stretched. None of your bones popped, which irritated you, but it didn't last long. “Hey there, Paps.” You yawned mid-sentence, and scratched your shoulders. Papyrus’s happy demeanor faltered for a second, and he fiddled with his gloved thumbs.
“HUMAN, I AM SORRY THAT I MADE YOU CRY LAST NIGHT. I HEATED UP SOME LEFTOVER PASTA TO MAKE YOU HAPPY!” He lowered his head the same a puppy would do when being yelled at, and your brain ached. Oh yeah. I’d completely forgotten. I don’t think I had any dreams last night either; except for one part where I was in the Arctic, freezing, and a warm breeze passed over me to keep me warm. Weird. It felt real...
You reached out a hand, and massaged the innocent skeleton’s skull lovingly. “Oh, Papyrus. I could never stay mad at you!” Papyrus jumped up into the air, and scooped you up into his arms. You braced yourself for the spinning, but instead Papyrus settled back down onto the couch behind you and embraced your body tightly. “THANK YOU, FRIEND (Nickname)! I CANNOT IMAGINE GOING ON WITH MY DAY KNOWING THAT YOU WERE STILL UPSET!”
You felt a tear streak down your cheek at his worry, and squeezed him back hard. “Papyrus, I will always be your friend. Don’t you ever forget that.” You whispered by his face where his ears should be, and felt his cheekbones warm with pure joy. The two of you stayed like that for a moment, until he reached for your blanket and laid it atop your lap. He scooched from out under you, and handed you the remote.
“YOU WAKE UP EARLY COMPARED TO MY BROTHER, (Nickname).” Papyrus mentioned, and an idea occurred to you. “What time do you wake up?” You asked, and Papyrus struck a heroic pose. “I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WAKE UP AT 6 O'CLOCK SHARP.” Your jaw dropped, and wrinkled your nose. “Why?” You laughed, when his eye sockets bulged slightly.
“DON’T ALL HUMANS WAKE UP AT THE SAME TIME THE GREAT PAPYRUS DOES?” He inquired, and you shook your head. “As you can probably see…” You gestured to yourself, “...that is not true.” You giggled, and Papyrus brought a hand up around his chin. “INTERESTING… FRISK IS AN EARLY RISER LIKE I AM. PERHAPS YOU ARE SPECIAL HUMAN, (Nickname).” You blushed at his compliment (was it a compliment?) and waved a hand at him.
“Hey, what can I say? I’m a night owl.” You shrugged, and Papyrus made a bewildered expression. “I THOUGHT YOU WERE A HUMAN!!” It took you a second to figure out what he meant by that, and when you did, you burst out into laughter. The walls reflected the loud noise, and Papyrus started yelling at you to calm down. “I’M SO CONFUSED!!!” He shouted, and started flailing his arms about like an idiot.
You only laughed harder, and plopped flat onto the floor. Papyrus stopped his crazed running around, and threw you on top of his shoulders. “(Nickname)!! EXPLAIN YOUR RACE!” You wiped a tear, not even minding how strong this guy must have been in order to pick you up so fast like that. “It’s a figure of speech, Paps. I’m a human; when I say I’m a ‘night owl’, that means I like to stay up later than most.”
The skeleton pondered for a moment, and then started chuckling. The rattling of his laughs made you bounce slightly, causing you to wrap your arms around his neck for safety. “OH! THEN MY BROTHER MUST BE AN OWL TOO. HE SELDOM GOES TO HIS ROOM EARLY; MAINLY BECAUSE HE HAS TO READ ME MY BEDTIME STORY.” You recalled how he told Frisk that same bit of information, making you smiled.
“IT’S CALLED-” “-Tales of the Fluffy Bunny?” You finished his sentence for him; he looked up towards you, smiling wide. “HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT, HUMAN?” You flinched, reminding yourself that around Papyrus you had to keep your mouth shut. “U-uh, you told me last night while making dinner! Remember?’
He frowned, and narrowed his eyes at the messed up couch. “HMM… I THINK I DO. BUT, ANYWAYS, LET’S GO EAT THAT DELICIOUS BREAKFAST THAT I HEATED UP JUST FOR YOU!” Papyrus cheered, and took off towards the kitchen. You clung to his scarf, and froze. “Wait, Papyrus-! I’m not gonna fit through the-” Your head clunked painfully against the entryway, and you slipped off of the younger brother’s shoulders.
You fell to the ground hard, and cried out when your spine landed first. You shrunk into the fetal position, and Papyrus spun around quickly. “OH MY GOD!! DEAR (Nickname), ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! I AM SO SORRY!! HOLD ON, LEMME GET SOME HEALING SPAGHETTI-” You cringed at the thought of him pouring spaghetti on you while you mentally screamed in agony. Hair was stuck in your mouth, so you spat it out grossly.
Dear God… I’m about to fall victim to a pasta avalanche. Papyrus came out from the kitchen, and held your breakfast up in the air. He had a fork clutched in the other glove, and you widened your eyes. “HERE YOU GO! THIS SHOULD FIX YOU RIGHT UP!” He fret, and you wrapped your hands around your head, preparing for the attack. Just as you could hear the fork scratching against the plate, a voice called out from above the stairway.
“woah, woah, woah! paps, what are you doing?!”
                                          (About a half hour earlier…)
Sans opened his eye sockets slowly and took in a deep breath from his nasal cavity. A distant noise had disrupted him from his slumber, and it annoyed him greatly. He glared at the clock on his desk across the room, and growled. 9:34. seriously? this is probably the earliest i’ve woken up in a long time. He sat up on his mattress, and cracked his bones tiredly. The loud vibrations bouncing off his door continued, and it almost sounded like...laughter.
Not bothering to get dressed, Sans slipped on his slippers and passed his treadmill. Santa had gotten it for him as a Christmas present a couple of months ago, or whenever the first reset was. He rest a hand on the doorknob, and ignored the dog flying around in his self-sustaining tornado.
The noise was indeed laughter, he confirmed, but it sounded nothing like his brother’s. It was a little deeper, but not much. It made Sans’ hand tremble on the brass, from either anxiety or nerves. The door creaked open, and the noise stopped. He yawned, and scratched his sternum. An emptiness grew inside his ribs at the void of the sudden laughter that made his pulse rise quickly.
He peered over the stairwell, and smiled when he saw Papyrus messing around with someone. Sans squinted, and realized it was (Y/N). He remembered everything that happened the day before, and was shocked how Frisk still hadn’t reset yet. It’d been a few days since the kid moved back in with Toriel, and befriended all the monsters Underground.
A weight fell upon his shoulders from all the information he now has to deal with and try to comprehend that was given to him from the new human yesterday. His grin fell into a frown, and he shut his eyes. (y/n) said that our entire world is a videogame. got it. she also mentioned that she practically knows everything, except for this timeline. she apparently has a very unique soul; one that does not remain the same color or dominant personality trait.
He rubbed his temples frustratingly, but relaxed when he heard Papyrus say something about “breakfast”. Sans opened his eye sockets just as (Y/N) collided with the top part of the doorway to the kitchen; he practically jumped a foot into the air from shock. Sans winced as she hit the ground with an “oomph!”, and curled up into a ball. He waited to see if Papyrus would check for any injuries, pick her up and lay her on the green couch on which she slept, or perhaps even take her hand and-
“OH MY GOD!! DEAR (Nickname), ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! I AM SO SORRY!! HOLD ON, LEMME GET SOME HEALING SPAGHETTI-” Papyrus nearly shrieked, and ran into the room beside him. Sans just watched in confusion from his brother’s choice of action, but made no move to teleport by (Y/N) to make sure she was okay.
However, when he saw how Papyrus was about to dump some “healing spaghetti” onto the wounded human, Sans decided to intervene. “woah, woah, woah! paps, what are you doing?!” Sans shouted, but not so loud that Papyrus would think that he was angry at him again. Sans ran down the stairs, and slid across the carpet next to (Y/N).
He held his hands up in the air, ready to flip the girl and look her over. “I-I WAS JUST PLAYING WITH (Nickname) HERE AND SHE FELL OFF MY SHOULDERS! I THOUGHT THAT SINCE THE PASTA TASTED REALLY GOOD, IT WOULD HEAL HER TOO-” Papyrus stammered, freaking out a little at (Y/N)’s almost unconscious body. Sans grabbed her bicep gently and tugged to see her face.
She laid still, but was groaning under her breath at the welt that was sure to appear on her forehead. Sans sucked in a breath through his teeth upon seeing a large bruise already starting to form above her right eyebrow, and forced himself to remain calm when blood seeped out of the left gash. “paps, use your magic on her.” Sans commanded tenderly, and Papyrus kneeled down across from Sans quickly.
“WHAT SPELL?” He asked, and Sans tripped over his own words. “i-i dunno; the one you used when i broke my finger the other day.” Papyrus nodded, and waved his hands just above her big glasses. Sans wasn’t one for learning healing magic; all his life he was trained to use blue magic, the kinds of spells and summonings for attacks and destruction only.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Paps was really good at treating illnesses and fixing things. There was no way his magic could rival Toriel’s; she was practically the master of all things medicine and curing. But while Tori was far away from most towns to help sick subjects, Papyrus was always there when someone needed him. He could run very fast, as his legs were practically four feet long, which was an attribute Sans did not have.
Sans was not meant for taking hits, as he had very little HP and a low attack stat, but that didn’t mean he was weak. In fact, Sans was probably the strongest and scariest monster there is in the Underground. He’s right up there next to Asriel Dreemur in his godly form; proving that whenever Chara possesses Frisk and goes through the Genocide route, it’s going to take an insane amount of time and skill in order to beat him.
Sans’ endurance in battle is amazing; most would think that the bigger and bulkier you are, the more of a chance that you’ll win in battle. At least, that’s what the Underground’s mindset was. This is why people always underestimated Sans; because he wasn’t bulky, and he most definitely wasn’t a big bad-ass Boss Monster with a huge reputation. If only people saw what his true capabilities were when he needed to dunk a certain demon wreaking havoc to all monsterkind.
Normally, Sans was a lazy skeleton who enjoyed ketchup and making puns all day. But when you take away his most valued and prized possession, you might as well just give up completely. Because that possession was Papyrus, the only family he has left and the only thing he has to live for whilst dealing with his depression.
After a few silent minutes of Papyrus working away and doing his thing, (Y/N)’s eyelids fluttered open. The blood on her face had evaporated into thin air, and the bruise on her forehead had disappeared back into her tan skin. She also noticed that the pain in her spine had gone away, too. Sans breathed a sigh of relief, and sat back onto his heels. Papyrus wiped the sweat beads that formed on his skull away, and looked down at (Y/N).
She groaned softly, and blinked when she saw the two skeletons above her. “What is it with you two making me hit my forehead on stuff?” She chuckled, and bringing a hand up to her hairline. When she brushed it back, Sans smiled at the genius joke that popped into his mind. “i guess papyrus was getting a little a-head of himself.” Sans smiled when his bro glared and reprimanded him.
“I SWEAR TO ASGORE SANS, IF YOU START WITH THAT NONSENSE I’M DISOWNING YOU.” Papyrus mumbled, and (Y/N) giggled. Sans was glad to see that she was already feeling better. “sorry, i didn’t mean to make that as-gorey as it came out. maybe a less bloody joke will help lighten the mood.” Sans chuckled deeply, and his ribs rattled softly. (Y/N) laughed a little louder, and Papyrus shot up immediately.
“THAT’S IT! YOU ARE NO LONGER RELATED TO ME.” Papyrus stormed out of the living room, taking the plate of spaghetti with him. Sans sighed happily, and turned his attention to the clock above the TV. 10:02. “wow, time sure does fly when you’re making puns.” Sans looked back down to (Y/N), who was trying to sit up.
When she let out a cry, Sans’ smile dropped. “hey, take it easy pal. i know paps’ magic is pretty awesome, but that doesn’t mean you should be making any sudden movements so soon.” She grinned sweetly, and nodded. “I thought the phrase was, ‘time flies when you’re having fun’?” Sans raised his non existent eyebrows, and thought to himself. He shrugged, and winked playfully at her.
“it is, but i don’t think that getting injured is much fun. unless to you it is, which i can respect. a bit masochistic, but i’ll accept it.” He said nonchalantly, and (Y/N) rolled her eyes back. “Touche.” She laughed again, and went quiet. She stared down at her clothes, then brought her attention back up to Sans.
“So...am I just gonna lay here until Papyrus’s magic settles, or…?” Her voice trailed off, and she bit her lip. The way she looked at that moment with her all messed up and long eyelashes batting slowly towards him made his soul jump unexpectedly. An idea came to his mind, and he thought it would work fine.
“nah. here, lemme help you over to the couch.” Sans leaned over, and curled his arms under (Y/N)’s back. She gulped, and let out a nervous yelp. Sans stood up, and she wrapped her arms around his neck like she had done to Papyrus’s scarf. “S-S-Sans!! What are you doing?!” Her face turned beet red, and the skeleton chuckled. His own cheekbones released a light blue tint, and his eye flared softly.
As he walked her over to the couch, Papyrus peeked from around the corner and saw what was happening. He saw both of their expressions, and smiled devilishly from his spot in the kitchen. He knew something had been off with Sans ever since (Y/N) arrived, and was sure to talk to him about it later in private.

Do Canine Smile? 5 Canine Mouth Questions Answered!
Is there a sight on the earth extra cheering than seeing a canine smile? Is there a sensation as pure and comforting than child pet kisses? Even asking these questions aloud suffuses me with a heat internal glow. However wait a second — do canine smile, actually? And maintain on; I’ve by no means seen a canine pucker up! “Kisses” are simply what we known as being licked by a canine.
In case you’ve ever spent a major period of time fruitlessly obsessing over the contours of your canine’s mouth, you’re in luck! We’ll discover questions on your canine’s mouth, like “Do canine smile?” and be taught just a few info about canine anatomy and habits within the course of. Canine actually can’t speak, however do you know that their mouths can nonetheless inform us how they’re feeling? Our tour across the outer rim of a canine’s oral cavity will try to deal with the next queries:
Do canine have lips? Why do canine have bumps on their lips? Why do canine have black lips? Do canine smile? And do canine kiss?
Do canine have lips?

Earlier than we reply, “Do canine smile?” let’s discuss canine lips. Since there are 4 additional questions on canine mouths and lips, it’s protected to imagine that sure, canine do have lips, however they’re very totally different in type and performance than those that adorn human faces. We will simply inform our higher lip from our decrease lip, however our jaw strains are so distinct from one another, it’s no marvel individuals doubt that canine have lips in any respect! Regardless of obvious variations, one widespread function is that, like a human’s lips, a canine’s lips type a steady protecting circle across the outdoors of a canine’s mouth.
What are canine lips known as? In canine, the decrease lip is just the decrease lip, however the higher lips are known as “flews.” The flews range in size from breed to breed. Hound-type canine, and different heavy-muzzled, big-drooling breeds — Bulldogs and Mastiffs amongst them — have lengthy, low-hanging flews draped over their higher jawline. Together with voluminous facial hair in different canine breeds, the flews can fully obscure a canine’s decrease lip.
A significant distinction between the mouths of people and canine is discovered within the cheeks. A canine’s comparatively longer jawline is balanced by smaller cheek capability. In people, cheek and lip muscle mass work collectively, offering suction that retains meals and water in our mouths. Run your tongue over the roof of your mouth. The ridges you are feeling are a lot bigger and extra pronounced in a canine’s mouth. A canine’s tongue and laborious palate carry out an analogous operate to our cheek-lip combo, however are much less exact. That is one purpose a lot falls out of canine mouths once they eat and drink.
Why do canine have bumps on their decrease lips?
One other query you may need when pondering, “Do canine smile?” is — “What are these bumps on their decrease lips?” Have you ever ever seen the finger-like protrusions lining a canine’s decrease lip? Regardless of how deeply I dug into canine anatomy, I couldn’t discover a satisfying reply to what they’re, what they’re known as, or what goal they serve. The one dependable point out I got here throughout was in Auguste Chauveau’s The Comparative Anatomy of the Domesticated Animals (1873), which notes that the canine’s “decrease lip is all the time scalloped on its free border close to the commissures.” Extra on the commissures beneath!
Why do canine have black lips?
What concerning the colour of these canine lips? Anybody who pays shut consideration to canine physiology may have seen that a canine’s nostril and the outer lining of their lips are usually the identical colour. A fast peek across the canine park will let you know that not all canine have black noses or black lips. Melanin is accountable for all eye, pores and skin, and coat colour variations aside from white and pink, which aren’t colours themselves, however expressions of lack of colour.
Very similar to eye colour, the darker a canine’s lips and nostril are, the extra melanin their genetic inheritance makes obtainable to them. The most typical nostril/lip colours, from least to most melanin, are Isabella (dusty), liver (brown), blue (gray) and black. Genetics are fickle and inconsistent, although, which explains why some canine have noticed noses and lips. Canine with darker noses and lips have higher pure safety from the solar than their friends.
Do canine smile?

Let’s get round to the principle query, “Do canine smile?” I discussed the “commissures” above; that is the technical time period for the corners of the lips. You may inform simply as a lot a couple of canine’s way of thinking by the commissures as you may by a wagging tail or an excited bark. There are at the very least two quite common “smiles” that canine carry out. There may be the “submissive smile,” which intently resembles a snarl, with the entrance enamel bared behind tight lips. The subsequent time your canine growls, discover how the corners of their lips tighten up.
The reverse is true of canine when they’re having enjoyable, completely happy and even once they’re play-fighting with different canine. Do canine smile to convey happiness in the way in which that people do? What we would interpret extra precisely as a canine smile is that this: The canine’s lips are flaccid, particularly on the website of the commissures. Mixed with the vibrant eyes and lolling tongue, the unfastened contours of the lips inform us that, if this canine isn’t smiling per se, he’s at the very least contented and relaxed.
And do canine kiss?
Just like the thought, “Do canine smile?” it’s tempting to interpret being licked by your canine, or watching a mom groom a litter of puppies, as indicators of pure affection. Sadly, an interpretation is all it’s. I’ve investigated the query of why canine lick individuals earlier than. Whereas there are lots of causes for canine to lick people and one another, none of them bear the romantic or erotic weight we’re asking about right here.
It might shock you to be taught that, not solely do canine not kiss one another, however most human cultures don’t both! Certainly, a 2015 research printed in American Anthropologist discovered that romantic kissing is a standard observe in lower than half of 168 human cultures.
Do you kiss canine? Learn their lips!
Canine don’t kiss one another, nor can they correctly be stated to kiss their house owners. Our anthropomorphic interpretations of what our canine do with their mouths doesn’t appear to trouble us in any respect once we’re utilizing our lips to plant kisses of our personal on them. Do you have to kiss your canine? It might be satisfying to pet dad and mom to indicate affection with smooches for the pooches, nevertheless it’s in all probability not one of the best thought. Human and canine respiratory sicknesses — the widespread chilly or kennel cough — aren’t zoonotic, and might’t infect the opposite species.
On the similar time, simply take into consideration all of the unseemly locations your canine’s tongue has been these days! I’m as responsible as anybody of kissing my canine in a cheerful second, and different individuals’s canine, too, now that I give it some thought, however I additionally carry a tube of Listerine mouth spray in my pocket. Do canine like being kissed? Look to your canine’s lips for clues. Does your canine lick his lips while you method for a kiss? Do the corners of your canine’s mouth tighten up? Your affectionate pecks could be making your canine nervous! Some people use their lips to convey affection — romantic, familial, or in any other case — however canine function by totally different guidelines!
