Reimagining the characters in Wish

(Part 1- Asha)

Hey guys! I don’t really know how to start this, but let’s just say that I… Didn’t like how Disney’s 100th anniversary movie turned out, like at all.

But I can tell there was a lot of unexplored potential beneath this story, that in my opinion felt overly simple and bare bones.

But if you love it, that’s awesome, more power to you, I wish I could’ve loved it too. And I don’t want to rewrite it to show I’m “better than the writers at Disney” because I’m definitely not lol, I have no experience in writing, and I’m sure they put a lot of passion into the project and I respect them for that. But this movie inspired me with ideas for a different story that I think is worth telling.

But I won’t start telling it today, instead, I'll start a series of blogs sharing my ideas for changes in the characters and their stories, after I get some feedback I will start posting more of the story itself.

Asha✨

Personality

- Asha is a 18 year old girl, with a passion for drawing and helping those around her, sometimes even worrying more about helping others than helping herself

- She’s like a big sister to her 7 friends, always being the voice of reason and acting responsible, but not in a bossy way, she’s actually very playful with them

- To the people of Rosas tho, she's seen as kind of a weirdo, for you see, she spends almost every time of the day drawing in her sketchbook

- She practices everyday to become a better artist, and the people of Rosas find this to be very peculiar, after all, why would you take so much effort to perfect a talent when you can simply wait to turn 18 and wish for the king to make you an amazing artist?

- Asha doesn’t mind these comments, although they have made her less willing to share her drawings with others that aren’t her 7 friends

- As the story progresses we see Asha flourish from a shy and introverted girl to a brave woman who after discovering a terrifying secret about the kingdom’s rulers, steps in and inspires others to join her and fight an evil sorcerer king and his alchemist wife (yes, I made Amaya an alchemist, more on that on part 2 when I talk about how I’d change Magnifico and Amaya)

- Some Disney characters that share similarities with her personality wise are: Belle, Tiana, Pocahontas and Esmeralda

Perceptive and always questioning things around her that no one pays attention to (like why do all the artists only paint the King and Queen?)

Backstory

Oooh boy I gave this poor girl so much angst, okay let’s go

Asha grew up with her grandfather, her parents both died in a fire when she was just a baby

(this isn’t just to fit the “haha Disney princess has no parents” cliche, there’s plot relevance in this “mysterious fire” that I’ll talk about later)

Growing up with her grandpa, he’d always support her dream to be an artist, like her mother, who was an art teacher

Her mother not only drew really well, but she also was able to create the illusion that her drawings could move, by flipping through the pages of her sketch books

In other words, her mom was an animator

Asha saw this technic her mom used as a form of magic, so she would often tell her grandpa she wanted to “Do magic just like my mom”

Her father was a philosopher (this was established in the actual movie but never explored haha whyyyy), who taught people that working hard to achieve your dreams is not only rewarding, but also essential, because it’s part of the human nature to persevere and fight for what we believe, even if we fail, even if it’s hard, just keep moving forward.

This philosophy may sound very “umm duh” for me and you since we all know and hear everywhere nothing in life comes for free… But that’s not the case in Rosas

In this rewrite the kingdom wasn’t created by Magnifico, but rather the kingdom has existed for many generations, being ruled by different kings before Magnifico who also granted wishes… but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The point is that the culture of just asking the king to give you or make you whatever you want to be has been in this kingdom’s culture since forever, so when Asha’s dad comes out saying “hey! Maybe we should stop just relying on the king to make our dreams come true, right?” He’s actually being quite a revolutionary… and sharing a very dangerous belief to other people…

At this point you might suspect what caused that “mysterious fire”

So, back to Asha, growing up with her grandpa, they shared a lot of happy memories together. Reading her father's books and her mother's art books helped Asha connect with them even tho she never had them in her life.

But as her grandfather grew older, he became senile.

Asha went from being taken care of by her grandpa to being the one who took care of him when she was still around 13 years old, and when she turned 15 her grandfather passed away of old age

Asha went on to live with her best friend Dahlia, the two became like sisters.

Though she managed to move on from the loss of her grandfather, she could never shake the feeling that he died without getting his wish granted... But she had no way to prove that, it was just a feeling

The wish granting system works different in my rewrite, instead of there being a public wish granting ceremony once a month, there would only be a public wish TAKING ceremony, that would work just like in the movie, you turn 18, you go give your wish to the king yada yada yada.

But the wish granting part would work like this: Almost every night the king would release the wishes up in the sky, they would float down like balloons to their respective owners while they sleep, and once they woke up in the morning they'd feel that their wishes were granted, for they would wake up changed.

With this method, there's no way of confirming if someone really got their wish granted or not, unless you went to ask the king.

Asha never did ask the king if he granted her grandfather's wish, but her grandfather would sometimes express how he wasn't feeling completely fulfilled in his life, he felt like there was something... missing.

This feeling of hollowness persisted in him until the very end, no matter how hard Asha tried to help her grandfather, she never knew him as his real self, because he gave part of his soul to the king, the most beautiful part of his soul, his wish.

Asha had no proof that her grandfather didn't get his wish granted, only a gut feeling.

But because of this, Asha wasn't that thrilled to give her own wish to king magnifico, knowing there was the possibility of it never being granted.

Not to mention she didn’t even know what to wish for, “I’m just 18 and you guys expect me to already know what’s my heart’s deepest desire? I’m still figuring that out, all I know is that I wanna draw”

Plus she wanted to follow her father's philosophy and achieve her wish on her own, eventually, when she figured out what her wish even was.

Asha never rebelled against the system tho, she wasn't a confrontational person. She just accepted the people of Rosas preferred to rely on the king's magic, but that just wasn't for her.

However, on her 18 birthday, when it was expected of her to give her wish to the king, she simply said she didn't have a wish, and even if she did she wouldn’t want to hand it over, she wanted to make it come true on her own. This lead to an argument with the king, and after a series of events (that I don't have time to summarize here, but you can find out about it on my rewrite) leads to her finding out a terrible truth about her kingdom. And that's how her story begins.

Design

- I’d keep these braid ornaments that Asha had in the concept art

- Since in my rewrite she’s not that invested in the kingdom of Rosas, I’d remove all the Kingdom of Rosas symbols that are present in her design (there are a LOT of them)

- I’d replace these Rosas insignia with more star and constellations themed symbols, to reflect how Asha believes that the stars are connected to people and they can guide us, just like how her father believed.

Final Thoughts

My intentions with these changes were to give Asha a strong emotional hook, and something that makes her feel relatable.

The emotional hook here is how she spent so much of her life taking care of her grandfather that she kinda never had time to worry about her own desires, that alone can be relatable to caregivers of elderly people that watch their grandparents or even their own parents lose themselves as time passes, and end up worrying more about the person they’re taking care of than themselves.

Asha has this internal emotional conflict where she feels she needs to constantly help others the same way she helped her grandfather, and one of the things she’ll learn as the story progresses is that it’s not selfish of her to want more for HERSELF.

Another thing that would be relatable about Asha is her passion for drawing, and how most people in Rosas would say she’s wasting her time practicing so much when she can just wait until she turns 18 and wish to be amazing at drawing.

She’d never stop believing that taking her time to improve on her talent and trying again and again was worth every second of her time, because let me tell ya folks, drawing is HARD, and animating like Asha’s mom did is even HARDER, it takes a whole lot of practice, and Asha was determined to keep trying.

She’d be much like Belle, remaining true to herself even tho those around her considered her odd, and very passionate about drawing just as much Belle was passionate about reading.

I also find it funny how Asha’s motivations are fairly down to earth, like in Disney movies you usually have:

I want to be free from these palace walls!

I want to explore the ocean!

I want to open a restaurant!

I want to find true love!

And then there’s Asha here like

“My life is fine, I just wanna chill and draw stuff”

And that’s it, but, in her environment where everyone is expected to have this great wish that they have to give to the king so he’ll make it a reality, she’s kinda the odd one out, and I love that. Would be a great subversion of the Disney formula.

Of course after she learns Magnifico and Amaya’s true intentions she gets a lot more agency and the desire to save her people, her “call for adventure” if you will.

A (late) piece for dmcweek2024 day 4! I was buzzing to put forward something for the week. Prompt was alt universe.

AU where Eva survived the fire and had to figure out a way forward, believing the twins dead. She becomes an RPG shopkeeper selling wares ranging from antique books to magical goods (Devil May Scry). She's also out for Mundus' blood.

I had...so many more ideas that I'm leaving out to keep this short. It's fun to think how she'd mesh with the cast.

Like! her and Lady. Mother that lost her kid and kid that lost her mother. It writes itself how much unwitting projection can go wrong. And pretty much everything about her, the twins, and Trish :)

In terms of backstory:

After the fire she's alone. Her birth family disowned her long ago. She thinks about revamping the mansion but the idea of staying in that empty space with only memories for company is too much. So she eventually opens a small store.

Starts off paranoid and distant. Still is distant but gets entangled with the local community overtime. Greets people by name and they'll chat about how life has been going. This includes demon hunters and demons and supernatural beings living peacefully; her shop becomes a small safe haven to exchange information to stay safe.

Gets very good at forging protective charms. Haunted by the memory of the enchanted closet, smashed in and empty.

A regular is a schoolgirl who originally came to pick up reserved books for her father but stuck around because hey, this place is quiet and interesting, and the owner serves stellar teacakes. Great place to study. To Mary, Eva's kind, though odd, secretive and a little lonely.

I got inspired by Eva's association with the bangle/bracelet of time and the amulets for her fighting style. It's based around item crafting, like an RPG character slapping on every stat boosting item.

She stitches together different outfits for different needs Cardcaptor style. They're all exceedingly dramatic. It's not clear here but I wanted a bird motif to eventually come through. Phoenix motif, really.

Meanwhile the twins are having a terrible time but they have each other, even if they don't remember they're brothers. I think it'd be sweet if they have a bond anyway. Everyone else thinks they're rivals at best.

(Nelo is Mundus' favourite to toy with as the proud, eldest son. But when he gets rough, Bianco butts in and acts up for Mundus' attention. This gets him sent to solitary confinement; Mundus figured out Bianco hates small spaces and designed an iron maiden for him. Others think Bianco is a brute who acts out for a fight. But that's ok. It means Bianco can keep buying Nelo time.) (When lucid, Nelo despises his own weakness when this happens.)

Elden Ring Theories: A Retrospective

So, enough time has passed for me to form my opinion on Shadow of the Erdtree and revive this blog. But before posting new theories based on the DLC lore, I decided to take a look at my old speculations and see how well they aged.

Does the Greater Will even exist? ✅ In this post, I compared the Greater Will to the Big Bang and suggested that it might not be an actual deity, but rather an attempt by the people of The Lands Between to explain the world around them: the creation of the universe, the fall of meteors, evolution, and the natural order. The Shadow of the Erdtree continues to present the Greater Will as a scientific concept described by the inhabitants of a fantasy world, allowing players to decide whether it’s a god beyond the microcosm or just an empty circle in Count Ymir’s hat, a mere projection of human imagination

The outer gods are natural forces. ✅ 🟡❔While the Greater Will's cosmic origin was emphasized even further in the DLC, the motives of the outer gods were tied even more strongly to earthly concepts. I have many thoughts about the outer gods and godhood in particular, but one of my ongoing ideas is that they manifest human emotions, given how perception and sacrifices shape reality in a material way in the Lands Between.

Elden Ring and Color theory: ✅🟡❔ While I disagree with some points I made in this post, many of my observations were quite accurate. One clarification I’d like to make is that the scroll sigils indicate the heritage of magic rather than its source of power. I also appreciate the DLC narrative that suggests all the differences are actually man-made.

Translation of Marika's echoes from JP, ✅ The DLC gives Marika such human and deeply personal motivations that reducing her to a mere puppet of an evil outer god feels like an insult to the collaborative work of GRRM and Miyazaki. I must admit that my initial reading of her character was too harsh; I even questioned why FromSoft would write such a one-dimensional character. However, I’m very glad that The Shadow of the Erdtree gave Marika awesome depth without depriving her of agency.

My musings upon Helphen's Steeple design and DLC predictions ✅ 🟡 Well, the Shadowlands are described as a place where all kinds of death come only to be suppressed, and the Shadowkeep, as pointed out by the community, very much resembles the design of the Helphen. You can even find Tibia Mariners' boats here. It’s not the exact version of the spirit realm I predicted, but it’s very close.

Small bonus: Even though I insisted that the DLC should be centered around the spirit realm, I pointed out that exploring Godwyn's story beyond what was shown in the base game is pretty unnecessary.

What's wrong with Ranni's Two Fingers? ✅🟡❌ Right direction of thinking, wrong conclusions. One of the biggest reveals of the DLC is that everything is wrong with the Fingers and their mother, Metyr.

Children of the Erdtree 🟡❔I'm not sure what to make of it. The DLC continues to toy with the Empyrean connection to plants, from the special properties of Marika's people's flesh to St. Trina being a literal flower, but it never makes any direct conclusions.

Bells and Bell bearings ❔ The connection does exist, but it should be explored in greater detail.

Candletrees, Miquella, Death and Sleep 💡❔✨ Now that the DLC has revealed Miquella's plan to replace Marika all along, it’s astonishing to realize that my earlier discovery about Necromancer Garris — who likely collaborated with the Black Knives — had Miquella's butterfly and candletree in his basement is actually quite wild

What is Crucible? 🟡❌❔Although the nature of the Crucible is still a mystery, I think my old theory that it was a different tree is not exactly right. I’ve even started to wonder if the Crucible and the Primeval Current are just different names for the same thing.

Some of my old takes haven't aged well, but if anything, I'm glad that Mohg isn't the "walking uooohh 😭💢 joke" I used to call him. However, my opinion on Miquella was surprisingly accurate. For two years, the fandom preached that Miquella wanted to abandon his godhood, making me seem like a major contrarian for insisting that godhood was still his ultimate goal (at least because it would be pointless from a writing perspective to create another Ranni).

I still believe that characters like Marika and Miquella are primarily vehicles to deliver Miyazaki's and GRRM's ideas regarding civilization development, human nature, religion, and philosophy. So, whatever faults they have are the faults of the concepts they represent. Nevertheless, *Shadow of the Erdtree* did an awesome job of elevating these characters from mere ideas to something more human and relatable.

My old description of Malenia is so relevant, it hurts.

Mohg, Radahn, Rykard and Snakes 🐍 Honestly, I'm not sure if Messmer was initially planned by FromSoft or created specifically for the DLC, but looking back, it's pretty funny that I noticed something weird going on between the demigod brothers and the serpents.

Elden Ring lore is a disaster 🤡 Elden Ring story is such lackluster that it was rewritten with the first day patch on top of the giant mountain of cut content. I’m not sure that DLC, if there will be any, can fix this mess or give any proper answers as it seems that writers got too much carried with the idea of making story as vague as possible.

Someone was overdosing on doomium.

To my surprise, the DLC managed to address most of my old frustrations. While I do wish certain things had better foreshadowing or were explored more, it still did a good job of filling many gaps in the base game lore that were making me frustrated. Looking back, I think some of my grudges over the lore were no less important than my theories because they served as a good indication that something was intentionally left unexplained. It seems that the gaps and ambiguities were not oversights but deliberate choices.

As I explore the new content in Shadow of the Erdtree and revisit my old theories, I will also share my thoughts on the new lore and its impact on the narrative. This fresh perspective has already sparked some intriguing insights, and I am eager to see how these revelations will reshape our understanding of the game’s world.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WDC:BB? (it's complicated)

Hohooh, this will be fun. Let me try to explain how this happened in the simplest of ways, without being put in virtual jail. As it's truly this:

It all started back in 2021. When we were still young, naive and pure....

The Ruby Lucas Appreciation life was seeing a resurgence thanks to some maniacs out there somewhere. Gifsets were flowing, asks were coming in, ideas were brewing.

The domino pieces were being placed...

Anon sends me a message about a trope they like. I agree. I imagine Red Queen in that trope. Kat (@lovecanbesostrange) sees the vision.

A writing demon takes over Kat's body. She writes a fic.

Safe Cage is born.

Unrelated to that (somehow)

Anon sends me a message to share a fun fact about a college football team with an interesting name. I reply with a silly idea for a story. As you can see in the replies under the post, Kat and I went mad again.

The Ruby Lucas Harem Server is created.

RRCAU is born.

It doesn't stop there...

RRCAU is developed over three years of collaboration and compatible unhinged behaviour. The story grows, we uncover the backstory, the supporting characters, the dynamics, the many different developments... It's a complete story.

But see. Kat has been cursed with a fantastic, fruitful imagination...

We had a habit of taking stories and imagining "What-Ifs" to some scenarios (because we struggle with definite decisions when it comes to plot, and we like to experiment! who doesn't?). It was fun to think of what could have been different and how that change would affect the larger story.

Soon enough, Kat had a thought: What if, instead of changing an event in the later parts of the story, we changed it in the very beginning?

What if Ruby's miserable up-bringing in a trailer park with a passively neglectful mother... was WORSE?

What If: Ruby was raised in troubling poverty by a physically, verbally and mentally abusive, constantly intoxicated mother?

Worse!RRCAU is born.

Still not connected to that (Palpatine has returned)

Anon sends me a message about Regina wanting people to kneel. I reply with a joke about Ruby being eager to kneel, so they work as a couple.

Kat sees that. She adds to that. She chooses violence. And she writes about it.

DRK AU is born.

These three AUs lived together in harmony. (Ruby disagrees. She keeps getting fucked over).

Until a 4am thought attacked.

Narrator: she did think mean things.

We.... thouroughly fucked Red over this time. Meticulously. We thought nothing of it. Torturing Red was routine. It was for fun! A 4am angsty brain fart!

But then the scary thing happened: it started to make sense.

There was no coming back from there. The story took over. We had no power over it. It had power over us.

WDC combined the three big stories that contributed the least with the rent in our heads:

Worse (Worse!RRCAU) brought the world without magic and the usual translations that came with it. Along with the setting, it brought the feeling of Red's early life and how it shaped her to be accostumed to abuse. Dark (DRK AU) brought the torture, the body mods, the calculated disfiguration of Red and the need for a domestic life that would attempt to heal it. Cage (Safe Cage) brought the most important: Corrupted Red Snow. Red as Snow's weapon. The manipulation, the abuse, the years and years of conditioning, lying, training, until Red was no longer a person, but a monster to serve Snow's needs. Originally, it also brought Regina, as the opposition to Snow's force, and the person that stepped in at the right time to rescue Red.

It was clear. It was obvious. It was meant to exist.

Art was made.

And something that's important to note: in WDC, Red is kind of the bad guy. She's Snow's Bodyguard, Guard Dog, Pet. She has no agency, and she does whatever Snow orders her to do.

Including severely hurting Belle.

The way that Red hurt Belle is critical to WDC. (Don't worry, I won't go there). It's a major part of Red's story, and a defining moment in Belle's development. The trauma was even responsible for the unearthing of a new ship: Kansas Beauty. A relationship that began in, of all places, a mental health facility.

It was a fascinating story. A vessel to some dark, dark thoughts. It was to be kept in a secret alley, to never see the light of day (much like WDC!RED—). I failed at that one job, but... whatever. Anyway!!

We explored other stories, parallel to that. We have the range. (While confined to the Red Snow spectrum...) We thought of different things...

Then. Kat thought more thoughts.

And I indulged her with a list of possibilities to fit that desire. Among which there was:

Kat had even more thoughts.

This change took us to a similar place, with a similar brain wave. (It happens often)

And.... yeah..... This had some... unforseen consequences.....

I'm putting these together because they're kind of related. also i don't want to tag for hotd spoilers because i don't want to invite weird anons to find this or weirdos to screenshot my url so be warned i'm talking about the leaks and my dark dany theories in this one. okay-

So first of all...yes, this is why people compare her to Paul Atreides or even Anakin Skywalker in that the concept of being a Chosen One is going to go to her head in a very bad way and it's going to be a huge part of her story going forward. We're all set for this in the books tbh. We have several schisms happening in the R'hollor faith with people already saying she's a savior, and the fact that R'holloric magic works similar to Valyrian magic (ie uses a lot of fire and blood) is not lost on me. There's several prophecies centered around this Promised Hero In The Face Of The Long Night and Dany is linked to several of them; most notably The Prince That Was Promised and The Stallion Who Mounts The World, but now we have this Azor Ahai connection with the R'hollor priests coming out in support of Dany. And what's more is that Dany is primed to believe in all of this stuff - she hatched dragons and the bleeding star showed up with haste, she's had first the HOTU visions and then Quaithe's warning not to mention the whole Stallion scene and her own weird fever dream-prophecies. There's a whole city state of people who call her MOTHER. Oh yeah, she is ready to take a dive head first into being the Chosen One and make that the center point of her entire campaign. Especially imo after Stannis dies and there's this vacuum of who gets to be the insane "i have the divine right" person; Jon Snow doesn't even want to acknowledge he can warg he is not going to encourage any sort of prophecy shenanigans, and I think that opens the door for a) Dany to step into that role and b) for the followers of R'hollor sans Melisandre to see Dany as their messiah.

The problem in the original show is that they bring this up and then just kind of...drop it. When in the books - whether she is killed by Jon/Arya or ultimately pulls a Nettles - this isn't going to be a positive thing. I've seen some people describe these prophecies - The Stallion, The Prince, Azor Ahai - as warnings rather than prophecies, but to be honest, aren't all prophecies warnings of the future? The thing is the warning isn't just the Long Night, it's about The Actual Prince. Look to the Stallion prophecy-

As swift as the wind he rides, and behind him his khalasar covers the earth, men without number, with arakhs shining in their hands like blades of razor grass. Fierce as a storm this prince will be. His enemies will tremble before him, and their wives will weep tears of blood and rend their flesh in grief. The bells in his hair will sing his coming, and the milk men in the stone tents will fear his name." The old woman trembled and looked at Dany almost as if she were afraid. "The prince is riding, and he shall be the stallion who mounts the world."

I think the prophecy, the dream, the vision, the warning, the legend, whatever you want to call it, is warning that as the Long Night happens, a savior will emerge...but they are a false messiah. They will not bring an end to the Long Night, they will only create more destruction. But the people who had these prophecies focused on Bad Thing Happens -> Powerful Person Emerges From The Ashes and took that mean the powerful person will stop the bad things and not exacerbate the bad things and distract from the original problem.

Now I think part of why D&D did the ending Like That is a) they're lazy as shit and b) Dany took off as a character and they had no idea how to reign it in so they just like....didn't. I think there's plenty of evidence in the show that Dany was going to take a Stannis esque turn but depicting that was too much trouble (think about how they cut all her most banger lines because that would involve trying to get her introspective thoughts into dialogue somehow. instead of figuring it out, they just lazily cut it all out. i still can't believe these dudes got handed this IP when they clearly don't care about the themes, it makes me fucking weep. like, filoni and abrams really fucked up star wars but i think it's clear they like star wars ya know? i don't think d&d really like this series that much, not in the way condal & hess seem to) so they just short cutted to that bells scene which was fairly lazy. Her fall from grace is going to be so much slower, so much more complex, and so much more heart breaking than what was in the show. And a large part of this will center around seeing herself as a messiah to the Poor And Downtrod.

And this fall (again....I don't think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Dany snaps out of it somehow - George has hinted we're going to dig more into the magic and how it works, and perhaps there will be some revelations on the exact nature of what The Promised Prince really is that makes Dany finally reflect on her journey instead of refusing to look back, and fuck off into the Great Unknown in an attempt to erase herself from the narrative others have written for her and write her own at last. I'm serious when I say I think that's about as likely as Jon/Arya killing her after she burns KL). this fall of hers is the crux of the entire series. It's where everything is leading to, this realization that there is no promised prince coming to save anyone, it is the climax of every single story in the books. And we know Condal fucking LOVES that idea because he's been out here in interviews talking about Dark Dany since season 6 iirc but potentially even earlier. I think Condal really loves a tragic evil queen and a fall from grace and he didn't like the way they did Dany's descent. Not only that but I do think the prophecy aspect is fascinating to Condal.

The problem with all of this is like.......you can't rewrite the ending of GOT to have that aspect of the story as much as he wishes he could. You can't rewrite GOT so it had 12 seasons instead of 8. I think what he wants to do is really hint at the prophecies in the future and play with the concept of prophecy being untrustworthy but he's been boxed into this weird corner where interacting with the main story line of the books/the main show is nearly impossible because everyone hated it and george will never finish the books but this prophecy affected much more than we realize and also, He Likes It, he thinks it makes for a richer story. IDK how he fixes this, IDK where he goes from here, because having Daemon have a vision of Dany hatching eggs and realizing the prophecy was right, they DO need a Targ on the throne because a Targ will save Westeros IS imo a really interesting change that more or less fits with the story in F&B. BUT it looks like pandering, and it doesn't engage with the ultimate end game which is that Dany is not going to be happy with being the Chosen One. It's not a gift, it's not even a responsibility, it's a horror she's being forced to take up that could eat her alive. How do you even engage with those themes when the original show went Like That?

-Ok so. Bc the twilight travels rift (that’s the name right??? The twigoat statue/bell one? That) has the three colored bells/statues (red blue and yellow) my thought was the bell might have been made by three people? Or goats in this case I suppose lol, haven’t thought much beyond just some kind of sorcerer/mage group of some kind, that’s basically it, not thought super hard on it beyond that but we’ll get there when we get there ig

-Accession/twilight spirits are essentially like the opposite of ghosts !! Even though they look similar I think they are actually more similar to mj, in that they still have their bodies. But for twi spirits it’s because they are basically frozen/immortal and NOT dead. As I said they are opposites, life and death and all that. The way they form is the same as corruption BUT the difference is they are calm/control their emotion/can accept the magic from their soul, where as corruption is rejecting it/being overwhelmed by it. I think a good example of this is in the prologue it was shown that snatcher makes flowers/plants wilt but twilight spirits have their whole flower thing going on yk? You get the idea

-the alps and subcon I think would be close/trade often!! (I think this got mentioned in the prologue Iirc?)

-Delilah’s mothers side of her family live in alpine while her fathers side of the family lives in subcon, hence she vaguely mentions it in fic a few times (but I also think she also clumped lotus in with her family too but more so to use as an excuse to not be super detailed abt her alp trips) (oh yeah uh if u don’t know Lotus is my TG follower twilight spirit goat oc who is dels guardian! :3)

-the bell isn’t supposed to ACTUALLY lead to the twilight realm, it’s more so meant to just a window/peek at what it’s like, …meant being the key word here (hence Hattie’s in game diary mentioning she thinks she wasn’t supposed to be there) probably gonna slip in some lore about it being under a spell/enchantment of some kind? Maybe only people tied to magic or the twilights specifically can enter, weither it be literal as in knowing TG/Lotus or following them, or more metaphorically like hat being from space counted her? Shrugs I’ll think on it a little more later ig all I know is if you got magic or ties to it you can go to the astral plane directly yayyyy :3👍 fun!!! I love going to the disorienting space afterlife for a visit it’s just an average Tuesday for me it’s fine dw about it

-twigoat religion/following is based more so on Buddhism/concepts of nirvana in my head, like there isn’t an underworld or hell or anything it’s all just one place, but TG isn’t actually a god or anything it’s like the game lore they were just a regular mortal goat who decided to protect the astral plane/watch over it after becoming a twilight spirit/traveling to the bell.

-Design detail is all twilight followers wear silver bells! :3 but NOT gold bc that’s basically saying they are doing it wrong/don’t care. (Examples of this: TG, Lotus, Dels, shady sunburnt, Rei (gold), shapes later/timeskip specifically for a different twilight character later that I’m not spoiling rn, and also party crasher has gold bells but not so much for twilight lore reasons but changeling council lore reasons which I’m not spoiling here sorry womp womp)

-I feel like believing in the twilight realm VS following the twilight goat are like separate things? Just bc the actual astral plane is a concept while TG is a person/religious figure so like most characters would know of or believe in the astral plane but not all of those characters actually follow TG youknow? Having proof of an afterlife basically means beleif in that plane isn’t part of the religion but following the religions morals/teachings IS if that makes sense???? hopefully u get the idea.. lol

-Lotus is TGs follower > dels was Lotus’s Follower > so I think @twipsai s oc zebu would be dels follower :3 (like I think they’d just be a reference and not an actual character in aau but idc I’d still kill for a!zebu <3 love that thing)

okay kinda random bc I haven’t seen this season but I saw queen charlotte gifs awhile back and someone was trying to stop the king from being by his wife’s side during child birth (I think ??) and now I’m curious if anyone could’ve stopped Adam in that scenario? I feel like no, absolutely not but 👁️

ooooh my gosh dude okay. okay. OKAY. OKAY!!!!!!!!!!! you have no idea how long, how many Years, i agonized over this topic. AGONIZEDDDD. the constant flipping around between historical accuracy and wanting them to share That Moment and knowing both of their personalities and OH MY GOSSSSHSHDHDJFNEKFJSKDJEKDJDK. alright. let’s get into it.

the fact of the matter is: i have put all 3 of their children’s births into my canon (not Graphically obviously but. the days have been recorded and are on ao3 🫡) so i can explain my thoughts quite thoroughly on how those three magical days went down. i know them quite well!

to answer your question, firstly, (and that scene in queen charlotte IS so good and i love that mini series IMMENSELY) no, there is absolutely nothing that could stop adam from getting to belle. proof of that is right in the movie, with that man doing gymnastic-level LEAPS across the castle roof while being shot at in order to get to his girl!!! so, no absolutely not. he WILL get to belle if needed.

THAT BEING SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! adam actually is not present in the room at renée’s birth! there were Reasons i ended up doing this. (and, just to say, i am still REALLY proud of this fic. i had been thinking about that day for years and then it all finally came to me one random night and i am immensely proud of it. plleeeaaassse read it if you find the time 🥹)

anyway, here’s the thing about adam and belle. as MUCH as those two love each other, as MUCH as they always want to be near each other, and invading each other’s space, i really and truly don’t think this particular (albeit, magnificent) event would strike them as something to be shared together. YES, there ARE plenty of recorded points in history when the man, against the status quo, stood by his wife while she had their children. queen victoria is probably the most famous example. and while i DID factor this in, VERY heavily, i just couldn’t shake the feeling that adam and belle wouldn’t be this way. it may seem counterintuitive to some people but listen, they’ve lived in my head for so many years, i just don’t question them much anymore. especially when it’s sort of Against the obvious fluff that i would love to see, ya know?? but here were my thoughts:

i think belle, having lacked a mother-figure and just like, girlhood & womanhood community in general all her life, would sort of Want this day to be a very, well, womanly experience. she only wanted midwives, there wasn’t even a male doctor present (which would have been weird for a queen!!!) and i think she was very intentional about this decision. she’s HAVING A BABY! and she hates that her mother isn’t here to help her through it and i think she’d just really want to take control and make it as special, in this regard, as possible.

(also adam definitely made sure she had the TOP midwives in the country. he vetted them Thoroughly)

and! i really feel like adam would not have particularly Wanted to be present. OBVIOUSLY HE WANTS TO SUPPORT HIS WIFE AND BE THERE FOR HER OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!! but, given HIS upbringing, i don’t think he would actually genuinely REMOTELY want to witness a birth. even if it Was the love of his life, even if it WAS his child. he has so many complicated issues around manhood and fatherhood and i think that would kind of cloud any other ideas.

i don’t even think they truly talked about it, just given the times. it wasn’t like belle ever asked “hey do you want to be there?” because husbands rarely were. and she was already very set (and very excited!) about having this very WOMAN!! experience. and adam equally wouldn’t have inquired, already being so clouded with the Everything about it. (and, i think his worry about her having to go through that would trigger him to want to avoid it, unfortunately, but it IS okay since she wasn’t expecting him to be there anyway!)

SO !!!!!!! finding their reasons so very sound, i made that decision and wrote it that way! but the whole first chapter of the fic is adam being an anxious DISASTER pacing the floor just down the hall from The Room so i mean, there’s still plenty of fatherly nerves in there. and after he goes to meet his precious darling, belle tells him how much she wanted him there the moment she was born!!!!! so like. they DO LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH and very much Wanted to be near each other. just not for the birth itself! which is valid and i stand by this decision <3

the other two births are kind of wild lmao. and don’t ask me why! i just work here!!

juliette was born a MONTH early. she’s perfectly okay !!! but just tiny and very unexpected. so unexpected that adam was LITERALLY NOT HOME‼️ ough. not to spoil the whole opening premise of that fic but yeah adam was in versailles doing king things. and belle would have come with him but she was quite pregnant! and carriage rides were UNCOMFORTABLE! (and their toddler is VERY attached to her mama!!!) so belle stayed home. and let me be clear, adam DID NOT want to leave. he knew they only had a month to go and his worries about belle only increased by the day. but belle, Of Course, was like dont worryyyyy nothings gonna happeeennnnnn!!!! he was only going to be gone a week anyway so. WHAT COULD HAPPEN?🥲

i don’t know WHY belle went into early labor, don’t ASK me that, i just WORK HERE, but she did. it all happened quite suddenly and it was the most scared belle has ever been. both because she thought she was going to lose the baby and because adam wasn’t even home so everything just felt wrong. one of her ladies in waiting wrote adam an urgent letter and some galant postman hopped in his horse-drawn carriage and told them to fly like the wind, bullseye!! to get the letter to versailles. which obviously took multiple hours because uhhh country big and horses small.

so this time, belle gave birth pretty scared and also more distressed because she knew adam 1. Was Not There Waiting For Her and 2. WOULD BE LOSING HIS MIND THE MOMENT HE RECEIVED THAT LETTER AND STARTED BOOKING IT BACK HOME! gosh. it’s just a very very stressful day 😭 that fic is INCREDIBLY dear to me though because it’s mostly them FINALLY reaching peace. adam returns and meets his second baby girl and belle is at peace now that he’s back and that their baby is okay. (though,,, i do think belle has some postpartum depression because of how intense everything was, and how worried she still was about juliette. she was just so tiny!!! but she really did handle being an 18th century premie like a CHAMP. at one point adam says “that’s because she’s strong, like her mother” 🥹🤧 so anywayyyy adam wasn’t there for that one either but for a wildly different reason!!! i do truly think that if he HAD been there when belle went into early labor, she would very much have summoned him because i think for a moment she wondered if she herself was going to make it and wanted him with her. (which of course made her more distressed that she literally couldn’t ask for him! AH!) anyway the 18th century was craaaazyyyy lol let’s move on !

last baby!!! le prince!!! hooray!!! okay HERE you go i finally give you the fluff we so dearly crave. ADAM WAS AT THIS ONE!!!!!!!!! it happened for a couple reasons. mostly, it was unplanned, lmao. even though maurice came on time, not early like juliette, the labor was also pretty quick and sudden.

(i didn’t even SAY this earlier but belle was in labor with renée for like a full night and day before she even TOLD adam. she’s so stubborn. like GIRL? i know Exactly how that entire day goes but i haven’t actually written about it. i should though. but she basically avoids telling adam because they had a small but “important” luncheon with some dukes and nobles and such that day and belle was like “well obviously i can’t Tell Adam because then he’ll cancel the thing he’s been super anxious about!” not for a moment thinking about THE OTHER THING HE’S BEEN SUPER ANXIOUS ABOUT FOR THE PAST NINE MONTHS— anyway. she’s ridiculous. adam really had to hold back his scolding when she finally told him but oooooh boy he was PISSED. OUT OF CONCERN‼️ but anywaaayyyyy)

this last labor started in the evening when adam and belle were winding down for the night. the girls were already tucked into bed. adam’s reading a book on the sofa and belle is milling about with some project. and then all of the sudden it’s like WHOAH HEY HELLO ! ! and she HAD felt some slight pains earlier in the afternoon but being her usual “you’d say you were fine if your arm had fallen off” self, she just kind of ignored it (you’d think she’d have learned? after the first two? but no💖) but suddenly it’s like REAL and CANNOT ignore. so she tells adam and he’s like WHOAH !!!! and then he’s like aaahAAHHHH OKAY— and they Start leaving for the hospital wing.

(oh yeah i think renée was born in like this nice medical room of the castle. part of belle’s whole Plan. but juliette was born in the west wing since all that happened so intensely and they happened to be closer to their chambers than the hospital wing. they just needed a BED at that point.)

so anyway, my gosh, MY TANGENTS!! so ANYWAY, they Try to start heading to the hospital wing but belle’s like uhhhhhh frankly my guy i do not think i can do all those stairs. this is Happening. and adam is like oooh my gosh and gets worried and Knows how scared she was last time so with all that adrenaline and Husbandly Concern he just takes control of the situation!!! and says that okay, she’s going to have the baby here, and he’s going to send for the midwives to come up, and he’s not going to leave her side. so he doesn’t !!! he helps belle to bed and steps out of their room and tells the nearest guard to get the midwife girlies !!! (who come and stay at the castle around the six month mark of each pregnancy, just to be able to do check-ups and such) and then adam pulls a chair to belle’s bedside and sits by her.

and he just. like he’s SO scared but he isn’t the same guy he was when renée was born !! he’s been a father for seven years! a husband for NINE! he’s grown A LOT ! he’s still not super excited to witness this but at this point he is fully just concerned about belle. he helps her as much as he can. he gets a rag to dry her sweat and lets her nearly break his hand from squeezing it so hard. and she definitely, (stubbornly), tells him multiple times that he can GO and she’s FINE but he’s like yeah nice try + i’m here now + deal with it. and she does! and the midwives come soon enough and things Occur and adam gets to witness the birth of his SON‼️ im not sure what time he was born but it’s like just before sunrise. like 4am maybe.

(they were all born at night !! renée is born around 11:15pm and juliette is born in the early evening, maybe like 7pm or so. (adam doesn’t show up until like 10 or 11pm😭))

and boy it is a WILD experience for adam, my gosh. obviously none of it is truly processed in the moment, with all the worries and adrenaline and utter JOY upon seeing their baby. and it’s so !!! exciting because the midwife basically cleans the baby up and puts him in adam’s arms without much thought. so they keep tending to belle with the afterbirth and all that, meanwhile adam is like ‼️‼️‼️‼️ holding his baby boy feeling like nothing is real AT ALL. and he cries (he tears up upon seeing aaallll his babies) and he’s just. gosh. so happy. SO HAPPY. so happy that their baby is okay and so happy that his belle is okay too!!! he soon puts the baby in her arms and he kisses her forehead and they can’t stop smiling. and a bit of time later, the midwives give them some time alone and leave for a bit. adam gets up and circles the bed to climb onto his side, and he just wraps his arms around them 😭

this fic takes place a couple hours after all that chaos. it’s early morning and adam eventually goes to wake the girls so they can meet their little brother!!

the silliest part is, that after ALL THAT! i do think that adam and belle would both agree that adam Should be there. so they talk about that “for next time.” but little do they know, baby reecy was their last little darling 🥹🥰 so that’s the only birth adam was at!! but wow!!! wowie i love this family of mine!!💖

Hellish Bells

Chapter 4: Paterfamilias Broken

“Charlie.”

Her head snapped up from the wedding book she’d procured from Alastor. The bar was empty this time of day; it was group therapy time. She was just deciding on the cute little bells to hang up around the Heaven Embassy…

Emily was helping them out. After Sera Fell, Emily became the new High Seraph. And, thanks to her, more human souls were being Redeemed than ever before! Which wasn’t hard to beat as Sir Pentious and Anthony had been the only two she’d managed. When Charlie had mentioned getting married, Emily was more than happy to offer the embassy as the location. That way their Heavenly friends could come. Sir Pentious, Cherri, Anthony, Husk, and so many others…!

Alastor was, surprisingly, more willing than Vaggie. He muttered some things about ‘blasphemy’ and ‘deviant’. Which didn’t matter so much, because Charlie and Emily would be there to make sure that he didn’t pull anything funny.

Blinking, she said, “Oh! Dad! Hello!”

Her dad sat heavily into the stool next to hers. He waved a hand and his favored bourbon appeared under it.

Charlie was concerned. He almost never drank! That bottle was from the first batch ever crafted on Earth! What was wrong?

“What’s wrong, Dad?” she vocalized.

Her dad took a GINORMOUS swig of the bottle, apparently thinking. Then he said, “I wish you’d listened to me and your mother about deals…” He rubbed his head. “My daughter, marrying an Overlord…” He sighed. “I wish…” his gaze ventured to her hand with the ring. “I wish I could see those rings. I could figure out something with them. But it’s a personal contract. Only between the three of you. I can’t do anything, not even give advice. I, I haven’t felt this hopeless since I…Fell.”

“Dad, it’s okay.” She put a hand on his. “I know it’s not the best circumstance, and I’m kinda being forced into it. It’s okay! Really! I’ll get the wedding of my dreams, and me and Vaggie will be married. Really,” Charlie waved a hand dismissively, “Alastor probably won’t even care . Political marriage and all.”

Her dad frowned. “Don’t think that, Charlie. Demons have a way of surprising people, and they don’t have the decency to play fair.”

“Alastor said those words himself! He wanted me and Vaggie to get married so he wouldn’t have to deal with it!” Charlie defended.

“I don’t trust him.” Her dad said it like it was something new.

“You don’t have to.” Charlie leaned over, giving her dad a big, solid hug. “You can be my guiding light through this. I trust you to know when there’s something funny going on.” She considered not saying her next piece. Overriding that was her need to be fully honest with her dad. Their relationship had improved drastically, and to hide this would be betraying him. “I trust Alastor to uphold his deal. He always does. And…and he’s kind and considerate to me. I think he’ll treat me okay.”

“Mm-hm.” Her father was tightlipped for a moment before he was cheerful again. “Now, I know that he doesn’t actually plan to do anything to you. It’s better to be safe than sorry.” Suddenly there was a board sitting on the counter, covered in pictures of birth control. “What do you have questions about? Let me tell you, you’ll feel much better even if nothing happens if you’re protected.”

“ Holy shit Dad put that away .” Even though no one else was around, the embarrassment at her dad being so brazen about presenting something like that threatened to eat her alive.

“What? Do you WANT to give birth to Overlord spawn?”

Charlie hadn’t dedicated ANY thought to that particular idea. She WAS Hellborn, so she could get pregnant. Her dad seemed certain it could happen. Children…she hadn’t considered anything about it.

Before she could give any kind of answer - not that she even had one - her black ring magically spat out a little notecard. Charlie looked at her dad. He was still waiting on an answer. Apparently he couldn’t see the card. Curiously, she picked it up and read what was on it.

For a dinner date in his room today. Please RSVP!

Oh goodness. This wasn’t going to go well. Especially as Vaggie’s name wasn’t Vagatha.

“Charlie? What are you reading? Another little ‘deal’ from Alastor?” her dad said spitefully.

“Not a deal. A dinner invitation.” Charlie flipped the card over. On the back were two glowing words: ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. “I’m supposed to reserve a spot.”

“Hmph.” Her dad fumbled, trying to grab the card he couldn’t see. Frustrated, he said, “Why would you willingly want to interact with him? Stick to the basics and limit your interactions!”

“I can’t do that!” Charlie protested.

He gave her a truly evil eye. “Why not?”

Charlie paused. Why not? Why didn’t she want to do the minimum possible?

The answer was easy.

“Because I believe in him,” she said simply.

Her dad set the bottle down after another swig. “Charlie, I love you, but your blind belief in people will lead to trouble one of these days! Some people belong in Hell . Like Alastor!”

“I understand that some people are meant to be here.” Charlie straightened up. “That doesn’t mean that I harden my heart to everyone! I may get hurt sometimes. As long as I help even one more soul reach Heaven, I don’t mind.” She crossed her arms. “I know you think Alastor deserves to be here. I’m not so sure.”

Her dad burst into laughter. “Really? You don’t think the Radio Demon deserves to be here? Do you know how many souls he’s eaten?!”

“As long as he feels repentant for it, I don’t see how he can’t be Redeemed,” Charlie said stubbornly, digging her heels in on this opinion.

“So what, you’re going to fix a Bad Boy? Do you hear the cliche you’re saying?”

“That’s not what I meant! I mean that everyone deserves a chance,” Charlie explained.

Her dad’s lips twisted before he sighed. “I’ll do my best to watch over you and give advice. The main show, what you want and can do, is between you, Vaggie, and Alastor. I’m a bystander now.” Before she could comfort him further, he opened a portal to his tower and dragged the bourbon with him.

“Dad…” Charlie wished he understood. Everyone had good in them.

And Alastor…he did his best to hide it, to hide his real feelings, but the last few weeks Charlie had gotten a measure of something more from him. Wisps of the feelings behind the smiling mask. She wanted to know more. To bring him out of his shell. To help him realize he didn’t need to keep the barrier around him, that he could let people in.

Thinking that having a nice dinner with Alastor would be a good icebreaker into truly starting the process, Charlie pushed on the ‘Yes’ option on her card.

drop five facts each abt all your Wednesday ocs pls!! (including Esther bc it’s a crime that I don’t know much abt her fr) -🍂

Ahhhh, thank you so much for asking about them, Alvita!! I am also gonna tag @luucypevensie and @dancingsunflowers-ocs since they’re my other Wednesday girlies. <3

We’ll do some facts about Esther first, since she’s my properly-introduced baby:

Given that I don’t think I’ve properly explained Esther’s outcast type to anyone besides Grace, I’ll explain it now: she’s a nephilim! Her mother, the woman who acted as a surrogate for her fathers when they were having her, was herself the daughter of an angel and a human, and because of this Esther is able to tap into a few different angel powers (if not all of the ones available to a nephilim, because Esther is a quarter angel rather than half).

These powers include being able to manipulate and generate light, being able to calm other people’s mental distress simply by projecting calming energy at them, being able to release powerful blasts of light that can cause physical destruction (which is what lead to the collapsed bell tower that got her transferred from her old school to Nevermore), and being able to wield a glowing angel sword by summoning it from the astral realm which is able to destroy demonic creatures (not that Esther has met any of those yet).

Esther’s family is actually pretty rich, with both of her fathers being lawyers and partners in their respective firms (which are actually rival firms, a fact that Esther and her younger brother Maddox find hilarious). Esther doesn’t like showing off or flaunting her family’s money, but she also doesn’t let it stop her from wearing nice clothes and buying her friends expensive gifts on their birthdays or other special occasions.

The St. Claire family also has a golden retriever, which Esther’s fathers rescued as a puppy when Esther was seven and Maddox was three. Esther was allowed to name her and chose the name Reno, after the main character in the musical Anything Goes, because her obsession with classic musicals had started even at that young age. Reno is an absolute sweetheart who always misses Esther whenever she’s away at school, and the entire family absolutely adores her.

Esther has never officially come out as a lesbian to her dads and Maddox - they’ve all pretty much known since Esther was pretty young, and when Esther finally comes home on a school break holding Wednesday and Enid’s hands, everyone just kind of shrugs and welcomes the two girls into their home.

Next, let’s talk about my beloved bitchy lesbian fairy Padma:

Every fairy has an affinity for one of the five forms of elemental magic: fire, water, earth, air, and metal. Padma’s affinity is for fire, because of course it is.

Padma is a twin! Her brother Akshat has an affinity for earth, doesn’t attend Nevermore - he is instead homeschooled as the majority of fairy kids are - and is pretty much the exact opposite of Padma in every way. He’s very quiet and passive, and doesn’t have even a hint of her quick temper.

Like Esther, Padma is also a rich girl (I mean, her family has been around for centuries since fairies live a really long time plus they can literally enchant people), but she is a lot less afraid to show it off. She’s always wearing the latest fashions and has her nails and makeup freshly done, and whenever she gets a coffee from the shop in Jericho she always leaves a twenty dollar tip or something even more because she just has no idea of how much thinks cost.

A really big part of the reason Padma is so determined to compete academically with Bianca for so long is because, deep down, she’s really afraid of people seeing her as just a stupid, pretty rich girl, when she’s actually wickedly smart and cunning. She’d rather rip out her own teeth than admit this, though, or at least it takes her a long time after they even start dating for her to admit it to Bianca.

Sometimes when Eugene’s not around and she’s stressed, Padma will go to the spot where he keeps his bees and just chill with them to calm herself down. Fairies, being forest creatures by nature, have an innate connection with all plants and insects, even if they don’t have an earth magic affinity, and Eugene’s bees really like Padma and will often bump against her face to say hello to her.

Now let us talk about Gus, my beloved stoner werewolf:

Despite werewolves very rarely maintaining canine characteristics when they’re in human form, Gus very much does - he always gets incredibly excited when someone he likes returns after being gone, even if they were only gone for a few minutes, and if you scratch a certain spot behind his ear he will just melt into a happy puddle.

Gus is also insanely clingy and affectionate when he’s high, and it doesn’t even really matter who it is he’s clinging to; if you’re close by and not already hugging or cuddling someone, you can expect a lap full of Gus, burrowing his head into your shoulder and giving you a bunch of compliments in a hazy voice.

Gus has had a bi flag hung up above his bed in his Nevermore dorm since he first arrived at the school. His first roommate, a haughty psychic who came from a super rich family, made a douchey comment about it, and it didn’t even take a whole week for Gus to report the incident to Weems and get his roommate expelled (Nevermore, thankfully, has a very strict no-discrimination policy). He doesn’t really care if people insult him, but he was not about to let the guy think that kind of behavior was okay and risk him repeating it with someone else.

As kind of a surprise given his general sunny disposition, Gus actually really likes true crime podcasts. On most given nights when there’s not some kind of get-together he needs to provide weed for, you can find him sitting on the window seat in his dorm room, smoking a joint with the window open and with his phone playing a podcast beside him.

Gus’s first kiss was actually with Yoko; it was at a little party thrown for Ajax’s birthday freshman year, after Yoko’s spin landed on Gus during a game of Spin the Bottle. The kiss was really quick, but it was also nice, and Gus is pretty proud to say it was his first kiss (and to tease Yoko about her supposedly wanting to kiss him again, which she always rolls her eyes at him for).

Speaking of Yoko, let’s finish these facts off with her new girlfriend, Holly:

I’m still not going to reveal exactly what Holly is just yet (you know, Alvita, of course, but I’d like to keep it a bit of a secret still), but I can tell you with absolute certainty that she hates it about herself. Despite attending a school full of what most people would consider “monsters,” Holly sees herself as an actual monster, and would give almost anything not to be the way she is.

What she is has also caused a lot of problems between her and her family, and as such, she’s one of only a handful of students who stay at Nevermore year-round, not going home for the holidays or summer break, which only serves to add to the layers of mystery and fear that most Nevermore students have around her.

Holly very nearly gives Xavier a heart attack the first time she speaks to him, after Wednesday defeats the Hyde and she decides to start trying to make friends - which, consequently, is the first time she’s really spoken to another person since coming to Nevermore. He nearly winds up falling off a balcony, she scares him so much, which Holly feels really bad about, but he’s also quick to reassure her about it and strike up a genuine conversation with her.

During the time when she kept to herself and didn’t speak, Holly would usually keep herself busy with embroidering various things, which she learned from her grandmother. She’s incredibly good at it, and even gifts Yoko a handkerchief embroidered with a quote from Dracula for their first anniversary.

Holly’s favorite holiday was always Halloween when she was a kid (coming from a family and a very long line of outcasts, it was kind of inevitable), but due to some very significant reasons from her past she can hardly stand it anymore. She now throws all of the energy she used to put towards Halloween into celebrating Christmas, and though of course everyone around her notices how much she avoids Halloween, they’ve learned by now not to question it.

i finished reading "as old as time: a twisted tale"! i still have some nitpicks about the romance, my biggest one now being how it kind of went from "belle and adam have a slow-growing connection but don't quite seem to realize they have mutual feelings for each other" to "belle's parents are the ones declaring that they obviously love each other and are going to be married" without any chance for them to say they love each other or have anything similar to the ballroom dance from the movie. i also have mixed feelings about the ending, though i don't want to go into detail so as not to spoil it--it's just a little unsatisfying, but it's also a fun idea in its own way? ultimately it kind of just made me want a part 2 to the story, but i still had a lot of fun!

i think my favorite thing about this book was that, although i wouldn't personally want belle's mother to be the enchantress in the actual movie canon, i liked what they did with her in this AU. i think rosalind is an interesting and nuanced character. she cursed an 11 year old boy, and it's acknowledged by him, by belle, and by rosalind herself that that was a cruel act, but she thought she was protecting what was left of her people from someone who was shaping up to be just as heartless of a ruler as his parents had been--and avenging those who his parents had already hurt. she suffers greatly for it and in the end, when she reunites with her family and with the very person she cursed 10 years ago, she apologizes, does all that she can to try and make up for it, and is forgiven. i also thought what we saw of her romance with maurice was so sweet and now i'm convinced that it would be pretty awesome if belle's mother in the movie canon was a witch, fae, or magical being of some kind. and beauty was half-fae in the original beauty and the beast novella from 1740, so it actually makes sense!

7 question ask: Belle

Three facts about them from my personal headcanons.

She inherited her love for stories of magic, adventure and romance from her mother, as well as her ladylike bearing and manners. I imagine that the 1991 Belle's mother died when she was between seven and ten years old. If she had never known her and Maurice had raised her alone, as in the 2017 remake, I think she would be more of a tomboy, as the 2017 Belle duly is.

Her curiosity and impulsiveness got her into all kinds of trouble when she was a little girl – since they still sometimes get her into trouble in her adulthood – which only reinforced the villagers' idea of her "oddness."

She can't cook. Maurice did all the cooking when she was growing up – he approached it as a science, just like inventing, and even though he favored eccentric ingredients, he did well. As a result, Belle would be comically hopeless in the kitchen.

A reason they suck:

She makes the mistake of revealing the Beast's existence to Gaston and the other villagers.

A reason they are great:

Her personality is such a wonderful blend of sweetness, strong will, emotion, intellect, dignity, and warmth.

A reason I relate to them:

I also spend more time reading than I do socializing.

(what I consider to be) the top tier otp/ot3 for that character:

She belongs with the Beast/Prince Adam, no question.

Five things that never happened to the character that I believe should have happened:

I don't necessarily think these things should have happened, because they might have needlessly complicated the movie. But on a purely emotional level, they appeal to me.

She should have conversed with another villager besides the bookseller near the beginning of the movie – preferably with a woman for enhanced Bechdel Test-passing. She could have seen that villager doing some heavy work and helped her (showing that she isn't a lazy snob who shuns her hardworking neighbors), and then they could have talked about Belle's dreams of adventure, with her neighbor sympathizing but reminding her "We're poor people, we can't afford to dream." Belle would agree, saying that between laundry, errands, gardening, tending the animals, and taking the chickens' eggs to market, she only has an hour or two each day to read. (Again, this would make it clear that she doesn't just read all day while her neighbors work.) Then she could say something like "But maybe if we hope and wish hard enough for a better, then maybe someday..." And her resigned, practical neighbor would shut her down with some remark like "You're a kind girl, but you are odd" and walk away.

She should have conversed further with the Beast about his temper, and offered him a kind suggestion for how to control it by describing what she does to calm herself down. Visualizing something pretty and peaceful, for example, or privately venting to an imaginary friend, or going for a walk outdoors (much like she talks to the chickens and goats and then runs out onto the hill when she's angry about Gaston's proposal). I would have liked to see that, because real-world anger management requires more than being shamed.

She should have had a chance to talk about her mother. Not in the way of the 2017 remake, per se, but in some way. Maybe in the above conversation with the Beast, when she tells him her method of calming herself, she could explain that her mother taught it to her when she was a little girl.

She should have had a conversation with Mrs. Potts in her dressing room before the dance scene, paralleling the Beast's with Lumiere. Or better still, a conversation with Mrs. Potts and Fifi/Babette, giving the latter more characterization than just "flirty French maid." More female/female interaction, please!

In the final scene, she and the Prince should have been shown taking a break from ballroom dancing, and stopping to look at a mural on a wall that depicts a map of the world. (Similar to Linda Woolverton's original idea of showing her sticking pins into a map near the beginning.) The Prince could ask her where she wants to travel to now that they can leave the castle, and she would exuberantly point to all the places from her favorite books (Verona for Romeo and Juliet, England for King Arthur, etc.) while the Prince laughs at the sheer number. Then one of the servants would point out that the music is starting again and they would go back to the dance. This would let the audience know that Belle hasn't given up her dreams of adventure.

Five people that character never fell in love with and why.

Gaston. No explanation needed.

Lefou. Ditto.

Lumiere. He's a good friend, but he's slightly too old for her and a little too flamboyant and vain.

Cogsworth. He's also a good friend, but a little too old for her, and too stuffy.

Chip. He's nowhere near old enough.

I Wonder how Melody would react if Kyrie or anyone for that matter asked if they were to have children or how the future would be between them. Like would she joke about it, have no idea, be upset or some other . You could just answer it or make a short story someone Asks, completely up to you! (Didn’t mean for this to be sexual in any way, just Wondering how Melody will handle the future with Kyrie in different au’s)

Dear anon this has rambled in my head since i read it. I was like oh I could answer... or write a few things. I wound up writing something which is more or less Melody's reaction to kids being brought up by someone.

Melody's Asked About Kids (Mer, Guardian, and Knight au)

Mer AU:

“You’ve talked about that man you’re seeing a lot lately,” Melody’s mom said in their latest call. She still wouldn’t come to visit. That was better, Kyrie would give the woman a heart attack. “When do we get to meet him? What are you two planning? Any wedding bells or grandkids?”

“Mom!” Melody shouted, a rare time her cheeks turned red. “Kyrie… doesn’t think like that.” The right words were failing her. It wasn’t like she didn’t like the idea of a wedding and maybe even kids, but that didn’t seem possible. He was over fifty times her size. That wasn’t going to work out.

“You always used to talk about how you wanted kids. Did that change?” She could hear the disappointment in her mother’s voice. That made it a bit easier to talk about.

“If he doesn’t then it’s fine. I’ve been less interested since the whole cursed family line thing anyway.”

“I had you and things went fine! I know you like to blame us, but your father and I-”

“Mom enough! I’m not blaming you, but I don’t want a kid to go through what I did.” She didn’t mention Caprice’s life either. It wasn’t like they’d even attempted to tell them about his tail. It wouldn’t end in a happy family discussion. She didn’t need a kid secretly able to cast magic once they touch the water. 

“Right because your childhood was so bad.”

“Let’s just drop it mom. For now Kyrie and I aren’t talking about kids and I’m not bringing it up.”

Melody sighed as she sat on the hill staring out over the horizon. Kyrie’s tail breached the water.  She’d never brought it up to him. It wasn’t like she could have a wedding with all her friends. Merfolk had to be a secret. It wasn’t likely he thought about those things either. Slowly the massive head of blue hair came closer. She still couldn’t name the shade.

“Melody!” he chirped as he came close. His nose crashed into her chest, making her laugh. She loved this feeling now, even when her fear of his size came back. The rumble from him came quickly, a purr that didn’t feel like a purr. “Missed you.”

“It’s been half a day,” she laughed. It didn’t take long for her to wrap her arms as best she could around his nose. He chirped more as he knocked her off her feet. “I missed you too.”

“Love you.” Kyrie chirped loud enough her bones vibrated. She laughed again.

“I love you too.” Weddings and kids didn’t matter. She was happy, happier than she had been in a long time. Although someday he’d have to meet her family, that was something she could put off for a long time.

Knight AU:

“You two are cute together,” the woman said. 

Melody had removed her armor before entering the town. They needed supplies and had to keep a low profile. No one could know they were knights. Kyrie didn’t mind the act, he liked the illusion she put on his armor. That when he leaned against her it looked like just two normal humans together.

“Thank you, I love her a lot,” Kyrie grinned. She buried her head in his arms.

“How long have you two been married?” Melody squeaked. She could feel the beam on Kyrie’s face.

“We aren’t-”

“A few months.” He cut her off. It made more sense to lie like that, but she couldn’t. It had probably been a good idea. Knights weren’t liked around here, but still it made her cheeks red.

“Any kids on the way yet?”

“No!” she yelled. Both Kyrie and the woman stared at her. The arms she’d liked wrapped around her pulled away. The woman’s face morphed to a pitying look as she looked up at Kyrie.

“Don’t worry, I had nerves too. She’ll come around fast.”

The woman’s face changed. Melody looked up, Kyrie was glaring at her. All too quickly the woman left and she was alone with the giant she loved. For the first time when they weren’t in danger he grabbed her hand and dragged her away. Quick steps that made it hard to keep up. She wound up stumbling as he pulled her from the town back into the woods they’d come from.

“Kyrie what are you-” Melody tried. 

The sharp look in his eyes stopped her. She… she must have upset him. Screaming no to the idea they had kids. That they were going to. It was just too much she hadn’t thought about it at all. They’d never talked about it. He let go as they reached their camp. She hugged herself. Of course she’d messed up again. They hadn’t even talked about her secrets yet.

“Kyrie I…” she tried. There was nothing she could think of to say really.

“That woman in the village was nosy,” he laughed. She could hear the strain in his voice. Not something she wanted to hear. It was too familiar, he was trying not to be hurt. “I said we were married thinking that would stop her from saying more. I wasn’t expecting to ask about kids. That was too far-”

“Stop.” She grabbed his wrist and made him look at her. His eyes were shining. “I… was embarrassed. It’s not like we talked about any of that. I mean how could we? I’m half fae you’re a giant… it’s not like we have options.”

“Melody…” She was pulled into his arms. Almost without thinking she reached up with both hands and unlocked his armor. The arms holding her moved. The armor fell, the crash almost reassuring. As his arms grew she could hear more of his heart beat. Racing and calming all at once. “It’s ok, we don’t have to. You can just say-”

“No! I… I’ve thought about it. Having kids I mean.” She forced herself to look up at him. One of his hands bigger than her head cupped her face. “Just, it’s unheard of. Giants don’t usually walk around as humans and half fae don’t usually stay around others. I… I was scared to ask about…”

“If you want to have kids someday, we’ll find a way.” Kyrie lifted her up. She squeaked as he tightened his hold on her just before he fell to the ground. She started laughing as his hands moved to hold her head against his heart. It made her smile. She’d almost forgotten his words.

“I just want to be with you. Everything else can come later.” The massive hand started to pet her. It made her laugh, he liked the feeling of her hair. The day he learned her secret was getting closer. She wasn’t ready to lose him.

They sat in silence after that. Kids were a topic for later. When they knew everything about each other, when secrets were gone. Next time someone asked she’d try not to panic. A voice in the back of her mind liked the idea, but it made her shiver. Kids may not even be an option, a safe option, in the future. That was something to worry about later.

Guardian au:

“So how have things been since you moved out here?” they asked. Melody was out with her closest friend. They’d gone out for bubble tea. Their favorite and easy enough to send a bigger one back to the house. She couldn’t pick one up to surprise Kyrie when she got back on her own anymore.

“Good, Kyrie knows about my thing with heights now,” she smiled. “We’re working on that. He can’t take the medicine, it’s painful.  He’s his full height most of the time.”

“Does that mean you two aren’t thinking about kids anymore?” Melody choked on the tea she was drinking, thankful she’d missed any bubbles. 

“Where did that come from!?” 

“I mean you were talking about kids before weren’t you? You were the one telling me about it.” 

“Well we… we haven’t really talked about it.” Melody looked down at her tea, avoiding her friend’s face. Of course they had before he grew. She wanted to raise kids, maybe not her own. It would be harder now, Kyrie wouldn’t be able to help a lot. 

“Oh my god your face is red!” Their shout made her slide down in her chair.

“Shut up!” She focused on her tea for a bit. “You’re the one here on vacation, we're not talking about that right now!”

Melody sighed as she walked into the house. Empty on her side, she could still picture the times he’d jump up to grab her things from her. When she could walk in with something she’d seen hidden behind her for him. It made her sad in a way, the things they couldn’t do anymore. Of course the loud thump from nearby knocked her from those thoughts.

Looking over, Kyrie’s eye was staring at her. Her face softened as her bag fell to the ground and she approached him. She could see the moment he realized she was walking forward. The joy in that sparkling blue iris. A different shade from the one she knew before he grew. From the one that made her talk to him in the first place.

“You have blue eyes,” she smiled. The eye widened before his laughter boomed around her. It was the same response she got when they met. When the words slipped from her back then too.

“My hair is closer to blue now too,” his booming voice made her heart pound. She kept walking until she could see more than just his eye. He wasn’t even that close to the smaller house. When she was at the entrance to his half she saw the mostly blue hair lazily tied back. She wanted to play with his hair again. “How was bubble tea?”

“It was fun, they asked me how you and I are doing.” Melody walked up and put a hand on Kyrie’s nose. The kids didn’t matter, the future didn’t matter. Once they were truly comfortable together again they’d talk. If they wanted kids they would figure it out. “I told them we’re figuring it out.”

“Just how we’re doing?” She could hear it in his voice. A bit of anger slipped into her heart.

“You told them to ask me about kids, didn't you!?” The nod knocked her back, but she glared at him. “Why didn’t you ask me yourself!”

“In case you were scared to tell me…” His voice was quiet. “I mean, we talked before this and you were worried about everything else. I didn’t want to scare you…”

“Kyrie, you aren’t going to scare me.” Her anger died just as quickly as it boiled up. “I told them to shut up, but for you.” She paused and kissed his nose. He shuddered and made her laugh. “We’ll figure it out when we want to decide. For now, we need to figure us out. Kids can be later. We have time.”

“If you want them I can take the medicine to help. I can learn to handle it. We talked before all of this. I still want to-”

“Kyrie, it’s not out of the question. We’ll just worry about it later. Maybe once I can sit in your hand when you walk around.”

“Are you sure? I mean I know you wanted-”

“I want a life with you, whatever that means. There will be options that work with both of us when we’re both ready, ok?”

Melody squeaked as fingers pinched her sides. She hadn’t even noticed his hand coming near her. He lifted her quickly, the racing of her heart a mixture of fear and joy. The fear disappeared as she was dropped onto his massive chest. Beneath her his heart pounded. 

“Are you sure?” he asked. His voice a deep rumble she felt more than heard.

“I’m positive,” she shouted. It was always hard to be sure he heard her. The subtle laugh gave her more than enough of an answer. “I love you Kyrie.”

The hand that hovered nearby froze. She didn’t look at the face she knew would be facing her. He was looking at her, she didn’t often say she loved him first. She was pressed firmly against his heart as fingers wrapped around her. She didn’t mind this, it was getting easier. She knew he’d keep her on solid ground.

“I love you too,” he said. He made sure to speak louder than usual, it left her in awe. They’d work things out eventually. For now it was best they focused on their own lives.

You know what I would love to see/read/write more of?

Rumple and Belle actually being a part of the big and messy and a little crazy but close-knit and loving and loyal family that is the Charming-Mills-Swan-Gold-(Jones) clan.

Rumple developing normal positive relationships with people.

Rumple being a reluctant — at least at first — (because he had been what is classified as villain for a very long while... and most fairytale characters have according attitude towards him) hero and protecting Storybrooke from threats that rain down on it as if from a horn of plenty along with the so-called 'hero squad'.

Rumple interacting with Henry and Prince Neal (mind you, he might have a hard time calling him by his name, especially soon after Neal's birth, when the memories of his own son's death are still too painfully fresh) and other kids of Storybrooke.

Rumple offering Emma his help in controling her magic (aka Rumple teaching Emma because as much as I like the idea of Regina teaching Emma magic, I believe Rumple would be a better teacher because of his experience + change of perspective that would make him a less mean and more helpful teacher).

Rumple helping Snow out with the baby, either through advice ( because he was a father and a rather good one at that, and though it was a very long time ago, those memories come back easily... plus, it would help him build his self-esteem a little, show him he can do good things and be helpful and appreaciated ) or some of the home remedies he learnt to make either from his spinner aunties or other women in the village when Bae was little or just holding Neal for a while and keeping him calm ( because I headcanon him to be a bit of a Baby Whisperer ) so Snow can have a little rest.

Adding to that, a rather surprised Rumple finding himself welcomed easily (maybe, even warmly) in Storybrooke's Mommy Group because Snow shared some of his advices with other mothers and they turned out surprisingly helpful.

Rumple's friendship with David. That’s just... I love their relationship, especially as it was portrayed in S2, very much)

Rumple/Weaver and Alice/Tilly's relationship. It's just so... special. The way Alice was determined to not let him forget who he is at heart and not let him be alone, at least, when it began to seem like he did forget. The way Rumple basically adopted her from first sight. The less openly affectionate but still quite caring relationship between Weaver and Tilly — the "I care about you and you know I care about you but we're gonna pretend very badly that it's not the case because I've got a tough cop/girl reputation to uphold" of it all. Just... Theirs is the relationship(s) I didn't know I needed but once I got it, I can’t imagine not loving (and watching and writing and giffing) the hell out of it.

Speaking about S7, Rumple's reluctant friendship with Wish!Hook and their partnership (and co-parenting) as Detectives Weaver and Rogers is another case of "I didn’t know I needed it". Because I don’t like OG!Hook and would never even think about him having any kind of positive relationship with Rumple, but Wish!Hook? He's another matter entirely. He's not perfect, of course, but I like him a ton better than his counterpart and love the growth of his relationship with Rumple. What OG!Hook never could do, Wish!Hook did (and I love him for it).

Just... instead of being forced into the role of a secondary villain every goddamn season since S4, Rumple being allowed to continue his redemption arc and grow the same way the writers let Regina and Zelena grow.

Class of Heroes AU: Science Kids (w)Bonus Headcanons)

A continuation of my Disney Hero AU, I would like to thank the lovely @artzychic27 for allowing me to use their OC’s from Mendeliev’s class, and for giving me the ideas I used for Nathaniel and Nino. I hope you like my choices!

Jean: Kuzco. Flamboyant and overdramatic to the core, this young emperor was sent to the school to learn how to focus on others and properly carry out his duties. (Still a work in progress…) They love to be the center of attention and head the school’s drama department.

Denise: Wreck-It-Ralph. A video-game baddie brought to life, beneath their tough exterior lies a caring and protective friend who’s tired of being labeled as a ‘bad guy’ due to their… destructive tendencies.

Simon: Peter Pan. A curious forever-teen with the ability to fly and a penchant for making wry and sarcastic comments, he loves to tell stories of his adventures back home. Though he’s considering leaving Neverland due to his growing feelings for Denise.

Cosette: Robaire. The lead singer of a famous and beloved pop group, 4-Town. They decided to take a break from performing in order to attend school. It has legions of fans who would jump at the chance to spend even a moment with her, but only one blonde has their eye…

Reshma: Isabela Madrigal. The eldest of a family blessed with magical gifts, Reshma often feels the pressure of needing to be the perfect daughter, though she’s learning to let loose more with help from her friends. Has the power to grow flowers.

Ismael: Genie. Alix’s childhood friend (She found him much younger and used her first and only wish to free him.), Ismael is sharp as a tack with the wit to boot. He can still use much of his power, but likes to pull pranks and use it for snark purposes.

Aurore: Blue Fairy. Caring and motherly, but also rather strict in terms of behavior, Aurore watches over her class and is always quick to act when there’s a problem.

Mireille: Simba. A young human/lion hybrid Queen-to-be who is fearful of the responsibilities and timid in the face of adversity, her newfound friendships at school help her gain the courage she will need to stand up to her evil uncle. Very worried about making her late mother proud.

Lacey: Tinker Bell. Spunky and creative with a fiery temper, this tinker fairy is always on the hunt to try new things. She doesn’t like being told what to do, and will challenge someone she feels has hurt her friends, especially Simon, her lifelong bestie.

I immediately knew that Jean was Kuzco. Who else could he be? As a bonus, here are some HC’s from my AU!

* Juleka will sometimes get extremely upset and start ‘beasting out’, tearing apart everything in sight. Luka will soothe his sister by playing music, one of the few ways he can still communicate with her since becoming a piano. The curse’s deadline looks closer every day. (I used the 2017 version for this particular part, where they’re becoming real household objects.)

*Ondine has a year to fulfill the terms of the witch’s agreement. If the one she loves declares their love to her and seals it with a kiss, she will be able to remain in the surface world. If not, she’ll turn back into a mermaid and be the witch’s slave. And she can’t tell anyone about it.

*Tomoe was blinded fighting with Mor’du(He probably needs a new name since they’re not Scottish, I’m open to ideas). (She serves as Elinor and Fergus.) It’s a big part of the reason she keeps her daughter so close, fear of her being in danger again. Naturally, she hates bears.

*Aurore was the one who brought Sabrina to life, and as such feels responsible for her, in a way. She looks after her like a big sister and tries to keep her on the right track.

*Tikki and Plagg both serve as Mushu for Marinette, with Plagg filling the role more closely and Tikki actually trying to be helpful.

*Kim is Alix’s favorite victim when it comes to her thieving habits. You would think he’d learn to check his pockets around her.

*Marinette fell for Adrien when he used his power to heal a wound she had gotten training. One of the first things she told him was that he had a beautiful voice.

*Nino frequently misplaces his wand, and it’s led to to some mayhem around the school…

*Reshma is quite protective of her youngest sister, the only one in the family not to receive a gift, often defending her from the ridicule of others.

*Jean has a burning hatred for llamas. No one knows why.

I think the time has come to write a little bit about my Regency AU. Big note: I grew up watching all the Jane Austen Movies one hundred times because my mum loves them so I steal a lot of ideas from them.

I developed this AU when I was quite new in the fandom and I have never written about it so here we go.

Historical accuracy is not the point of this AU, the regency era serves more as inspiration.

It’s set in the fictional country which I haven’t fought of a name yet, in the fictional village Breitentrepp and the capital city Luardock. Breitentrepp is a village in the countryside while Luardock is a large city by the sea, mostly inspired by London, Vienna and Hamburg.

Even though my AU is inspired by an historical setting it’s 100% fantasy, first indicator is that the people in it are cat people. The society also function differently than in regency era England. All in all society is more open. Same sex couples are treated the same way as heterosexual couples and being polyamorous is a widely accepted form of partnership, even with the option to marry more than one person.

What’s not different from regency era though is the wide obsession with class and belonging to a certain class of people. It’s important to marry somebody who has a good standing in society, a lot of money or is coming from the right family. So while everbody acts very open and accepting and like true love is the most important to them, a lot of marriages and partnerships are descided not by love but by status,  especially in the aristocratic and bourgeois milieu.

Also there is magic. Some people possess magic, there are light and dark magic, as well as elementar magic, such as fire, nature, water and weather magic. People who belong to the higher classes keep their magic hidden, especially fire magic is seen as evil by most people.

There is also a war going on in the west of the country against a mysterious ice giant but I haven’t fully developed this plot line yet.

The first arc: Breitentrepp

The three main characters of the story are three siblings of the Bell-family: Rumpleteazer (22), Pouncival (21) and Electra (20). The story starts in the village of Breitentrepp where they and their family is introduced. Their parents are Jennyanydots (biological mother of Rumpleteazer and Electra) and Jellylorum (biological mother of Pouncival). Jenny comes from a line of nobility but her family has been declinging in society since a few generations and their life is now closer to a life of farmers than nobility. Jellylorum is a doctor and she is the doctor for her own and the surrounding villages.

(Also living in the Village are Asparagus Jr. and Gus. They are the tailors and own the cloth shop. Asparagus Jr. is Pouncivals biological father.)

The Bell-family lives in a farmhouse on lands that are owned by Jennys family. The starting point of the story is spring. It’s quite a warm day and Rumpleteazer and Pouncival are out and about in the surrounding forrest where they meet city cat Mistoffelees, who got lost. He reveals to them that he studies Botanics at the university in Luardock. He was looking for some plants for his doctor thesis but got lost. They help him find his way back into the village and invite him to dinner.

Over spring and summer a friendship forms between him and the family. At the end of summer he  has to return to the city. On the dinner table where he tells them about his soon depature Jannyanydots also reveals that Rumpleteazer and Pouncival will visit the city too during the winter time to take part in the ball season (yeah, here it’s during winter like in Vienna) to find suiting partners for both of them. (Electra already lives in the city because she is studying medcine like her mother Jellylorum). Mistoffelees promises to introduce them to everybody and to find a fitting partner for each of them. It’s the first time he reveals himself as part of the Luardock high society.

Rumpleteazer is not happy. She is not really interested in marrying somebody just because of money and status and would prefer to stay with her mothers on the countryside just marrying some farmer some day but Jenny wants “a better life” for them and convinces Rumpleteazer to go to the city. Pouncival doesn’t have to be convinced because he already developed a crush on Mistoffelees and is very eager to see him again. Though it kind of did hurt him that Mistoffelees wants to find a partner for him and does not consider himself as an option.

So at the end of autumn he and his sister move to their uncle Skimbleshanks, who lives in Luardock to take part in the ball season.
