The name of the ending where the van drives off with MXES is called "whocauseseverything". I think this is trying to tell us that that this IS the van that hit David. By killing David, this caused Edwin to lash out at the mimic and beat it severely, infecting it with agony and teaching it violence, leading to the events of Help Wanted, Security Breach, and So fourth. The van is what set off the chain of events that is the reason why the Mimic is the way it is. This is what caused everything.
