little test sketch of hollystar on my newly-fixed desktop!
#hollystar#boughclan hollystar#clangen oc#clangen#warriors#warriors oc#warrior cats#drawing on my desktop is kind of weird and slippery compared to drawing on my laptop#i think it's because of the different aspect ratio? but i've never been able to close the disparity haha#i might continue to line on my laptop just because i like it better#but also i hate lining from a sketch so i may also just clean up my desktop sketches into the lineart. which would result in messier linear#it was already a bit messy anyway! hehe i love messy artwork

Artistic Statement
During my time in this course, I came in with no prior knowledge of figure drawing. It was definitely a learning experience, and while I have been drawing for some time now, I've always avoided drawing the figure because it seemed complicated to me. My learning experience I feel has been a great take away for me because I struggled greatly with proportions of the human figure. I feel that over time with the practice I saw my figures improve and it was rewarding. My goals for this class when I came in was that I wanted to understand the human anatomy better and understand placement. I ended up superceding my goals and was amazed that I had learned so much in such a short amount of time.
When it came to my favorite materials for the class, I would definitely have to say I love the bristol paper. It is a really great paper for pretty much anything. It works great with graphite, charcoal and acrylic. Though I did struggle painting on paper with acrylic, I feel that it was durable and held well. I haven't painting in a while so I would say I am rusty but I found the process rewarding and eye opening to add painting into one of my practices.
My favorite assignment out of all of them was definitely the never ending figure drawings. The reason being was because I found it to be extremely rewarding to see my progress the more I did them. The most reflective assignment we had was the self portrait. If I'm being honest, I haven't been the type of person who loves to take pictures of themselves. It's a combination of self esteem and anxiety. When being assigned this I was hesitant to draw my true self, after everything I was able to complete the assignment with personal reflection on many different aspects and it helped me a lot. Visually, I loved doing the final. It was hard to paint the figures and the background because I don't think I was applying the right technique but I do love working with color which was a nice refreshing twist.
Obstacles that I personally felt the most was the time constraint. While being a full time student, i did take a semester off from class to deal with personal issues. It has been hard to adjust and being in such a fast paced term it was hard to manage but I was able to overcome that by applying time management and breaking down assignments into sessions. Technique wise, I struggled painting the final assignment. I haven't painted on bristol in some time and while I do find it great material for paint, It soaked up the paint faster than I had expected or am used to. I struggled with head placement and size a lot, what really helped my figures become more proportioned was when we learned about lines, the lines and the head to body ratio count were game changers in my figures.
Overall, this was a great semester and this class was very enjoyable. Though it was fast paced and had it's challenges, I feel that the reward was to see my art get better.
