RANDOM WIP DAY THAT ENDS IN Y

This is a rough draft of a section of Generico!Verse story I'm tossing around. More of that pasta yeeting, as you will.

It's part of a planned story, made of episodic chapters, that tells the Generico!verse saga from Rebecca's (Becky Lynch's) POV.

I still need to get a better feel on 'Rebecca's' voice, which is pretty much impossible because in this case, Rebecca isn't Becky, she's meant to be Rebecca KNOX, who I have no access to outside of one random match. So Rebecca's 'voice' may just end up being a completely made up one. Anyway, enjoy this draft, and if anyone likes it, let me know.

Writing this style of story is a pain in the ASS and I'm gonna have to do a damn cheat sheet between this and the Abuela Carla stories on how to tell when Generico is speaking Spanish that the text translates into English, or when Generico is ACTUALLY SPEAKING ENGLISH.

So, it is what it is and, for the moment, enjoy.

Synopsis: Rebecca Lynch has been home in Ireland for about a month or so, forced into an early retirement. But thankfully, it's 2007, and the world is in a brand new age. An age where you can easily talk to someone on the other side of the world via the internet.

And an age where that internet can almost (but not quite) allow you to understand him.

Story below cut

“EireChick87” hadn't been expecting a message.

Rebecca usually left AIM on in the background in case anyone did, but when a message came up on her screen from “GenericoNo1” she was equal parts shocked and excited?

es esta Rebecca? It asked.

mi amiga?

Becky didn't speak Spanish. At All. But she recognized Generico's manner of “speaking” immediately.

Quickly, she typed her answer

YES!

There was a pause before the reply came.

si?

… the conversation was all of three messages long and Rebecca already saw a problem.

Thinking fast, she opened a new tab on Firefox and, heading to Babelfish, typed her message

You don't know how to type in English, do you?

Quickly, she got a translation and, copying and pasting it, sent it along.

Shortly the response came.

no lo siento. 

And back into the translator THAT went.

No I am sorry.

Becky sighed. Moments earlier, she'd been so excited. Now, she was wondering how quickly she could learn to speak Spanish.

It wasn't that bad an idea, actually, especially considering Kevin certainly would never bother learning. She didn't know why, it would have made sense for him to do so ages ago, but for some stupid reason, he was unwilling to even try.

So, if he wouldn't do it, at least she could.

But, that was later. In the meantime, the crappy online translator would have to do.

I don't speak Spanish, she typed back, But if you can put up with lousy online translations, we might be able to pull this off.

She translated it, copied it, pasted it, and sent it off.

The reply took longer that time, and she immediately filtered It through her translator again.

It is good enough. I understand.

It wasn't perfect, but yeah, it would work. Although she was pretty sure there would be stuff lost in the translations.

In the meantime…

How are you messaging me? Are you using Kevin's computer? Did he let you? 

A quick response that time.

no

Rebecca rolled her eyes.

If you are using his computer without permission, Generico, he will skin you.

There was a longer pause that time.

No. I am using my computer.

Rebecca blinked. Hard.

When the hell did Generico get a computer??? she thought, more than a little alarmed. 

It took her a moment to collect herself but, once she did, she responded.

When did you get a computer? And how? 

Copy, translate, send.

And after a long pause…

It was a hell of a lot of Spanish, and Rebecca knew the translator would have a hell of a time with it, but…

There was a man in a store in the city.  He had this and I paid him cash.  It cost a lot but Kevin didn't know he had money.  Not now.  But it works.  He needed to talk to you.

Well that doesn't sound right. Did he steal Kevin’s money???

Who needed to talk to me?, she asked. And did you steal Kevin’s money?

NO! the response came. Generico dinaro! Geneirco habla! 

Becky didn't need the translator that time.

Not that it would have helped anyway.

Messaging through a translator, especially one that was trying to compensate for her friend's speech patterns, was going to be a bitch, she could tell.

So. It was your money, and now it's your computer. How much did it cost?

Two months, Generico replied.

“God,”  she said aloud, staring at the nonsensical translation, “This is shit. How the hell are we going to work this???”

You know, Generico, if I'm going to message you, I should probably learn Spanish.

si. espanol muy bien.

She was already beginning to treasure the messages she didn't need babelfish for.

Suddenly, her phone began to ring.

BRB, she quickly typed And, sending it along, she answered the phone.

It was Finn.

“Becky!” Finn said, far too enthusiastically for, among other things, the middle of winter, “Are you busy? I'm in your area and was thinking maybe lunch.”

Rebecca looked back at her screen where a lone question mark had appeared as a response, Generico clearly not understanding what BRB meant in any language.

And as she stared at it, thinking of how excited she had been to get that first message and how sad she knew in her heart Generico would be if she logged off so soon, she couldn't help but smile into the phone as she replied.

“You know, Prince,” she said, invoking the nickname she had given Finn years earlier, “I think I am.”

- About backgrouns, a detailed background costs 5 USD till 10 USD. A detailed background got details as windows, furniture, buildings, trees, etc a simple background is just a mixture of colors and Illumination.

A TENER EN CUENTA:

- No dibujo: Furrys, mechas, no habrán personajes en pelotas en poses censurables (?).

- Puede ser fanart, usted al lado del ser amado para atarlo o sus oc's.

- Puedo rechazar algún pedido si no me encuentro de acuerdo o creo que no podré hacerlo.

- Como pueden leer en las imágenes, un personaje muuuy detallado, que tenga demasiados elementos encima, puede incrementar el costo, como también animales, pokemones, criaturas, monstruos o pedidos específicos en animación (respecto a pixels).Esto se les notificará previo a aceptar el trabajo. - En caso de los fondos, un fondo detallado se podrá cobrar de 5 a 10 dólares. Un fondo detallado posee elementos como ventanas, parques, edificios, elementos de una habitación, etc, etc, etc. Un fondo sencillo es tan solo mezcla de colores e iluminación.

- El TIEMPO DE ENTREGA puede ser desde un par de días, una semana, dos o incluso un mes dependiendo de cómo vea mi tiempo o que tan detallado sea su pedido. Cualquier tipo de retraso estaré avisando, no se espanten.

- Haré una línea de comisiones como la vez pasada donde colocaré a las personitas en orden de pago y que actualizaré cada que termine, inicie o acepte algo.
