Do you think about Amy Rose and hope?

Do you ever think about that terrified kid stopping to talk to another hurt, terrified kid, choosing to ignore the warnings because way deep down under all the anger, she saw someone desperate for hope that things can get better?

Do you ever stop to think how horrified Amy Rose was when Shadow 'died' changing his mind? Stopping the Biolizard? Saving the world?

Do you think she saw that flash of a falling star as Shadow burned in the atmosphere and felt fear grip her? Only to have a moment of hope when she saw Sonic walk through the door, only to have her heart drop through the floor because he's alone?

Do you think it keeps her up at night?

Do you know this isn't the first time this has happened? She reached out to Gamma, to the living, hoping thing inside of them, and Gamma died, too. But that was different. The living, hoping thing inside of Gamma got to live on. What is left of Shadow but a name whispered without making eye contact, if that?

Do you think she fears she's cursed?

Do you think she hates herself a little?

Do you think she wonders if this is why everyone leaves her behind?

Do you stop to wonder what on Earth was going through her mind when she saw Shadow again?

Do you think she wanted to tell him?

Do you think she was afraid?

Do you think she saw that blank stare and realized he didn't remember?

Do you think about when Amy found out Shadow was homeless? Do you think she was was angry? At herself, at GUN, at the world? Thank goodness Rouge took him in. Thank goodness Rouge was there, her and Omega. She and Rouge might not have always seen eye to eye, but that doesn't matter. Not right now. They won't let anything bad happen to him. Anything worse, anyway.

Do you think she was afraid during the Black Amy's invasion, terrified upon loosing track of Cream? Then there's Shadow, silent like his namesake, and without any questions asked, he helps. How shitty does she feel? She hasn't told him yet. She can feel the anger, the sadness, the confusion radiating off of them. Still waters hide a lot. They run deep and cold and faster than you expect. As afraid of being honest with him as she is, she knows she has to at some point.

Do you think of how she took the news of Shadow joining GUN? Do you think about the thoughts racing through her head as she tried to figure out what to do with her face? With her hands?

Do you think that, as he remembered bits and pieces, as she saw the lights come back on in his eyes, she wondered if he remembered what happened? On the ARK? In the dark of that observation room? That quiet conversation between two scared kids talking about hope? He doesn't talk to her much. She wants to reach out so badly, but at the same time, she's afraid of hurting him.

Do you think about that deep breath she took as she buried that fear and anger way down in herself? Like bacteria in the center of a pearl, she tucks it deep and works on fostering something new.

Do you think about Amy Rose, and how hope springs eternal?

I need to talk about Julian's whole thing with Sloan in Extreme Measures cause it does actually make me feel a certain kind of rabid

Extreme Measures is a great episode for the Julian/Miles dynamic and has a lot of great moments with them but I think an underrated element of the episode is how it very plainly shows just how much the Dominion War has changed Julian, and how his morals have shifted into a much greyer area

Julian in this episode is very callous towards Sloan even as he's literally dying. he has no issues violating Sloan's mind, and when Sloan dies, the only reason he actually cares is because the answers and secrets Sloan has will die with him. truly cannot emphasize enough just how deeply Julian fucking hates Sloan, and sheer hatred isnt something we really see all that much from Julian, especially not to the degree he was with Sloan

even with that, though, Julian has never been like that with another patient. Julian doesnt let his personal feelings get in the way of being a doctor, and always treats his patients with the utmost care and his best work. Julian was willing to find a cure for the Jem'Hadar's addiction, simply because they asked for help, even if it meant potentially making them into a much bigger threat than they already were. Julian treated Tain in Camp 371. and, sure, Julian does treat Sloan, but he does so explicitly because Sloan has information they need, not because he has any care for Sloan's life

and I think that- his willingness to violate Sloan's mind to get what they need, and how he didn't particularly care that Sloan died- is a really bleak look at just how much the war has changed Julian and how much it's shifted his moral compass. throughout the war, Julian has been ordered time and time again to compromise his morals. add to that several traumatic events- multiple of which are orchestrated by Sloan- and a slide into deep depression, and it's no wonder he gets to a point where he can do the things he does in this episode

and I dont think it hits him until much later. I think one day, long after the war has ended and theyre still rebuilding everything that was broken, Julian lays awake at night and remembers how bad it got and what he became willing to do, and it makes him sick to his stomach
