noticing the wolfwood mention, i would first and foremost like to apologize for tricking you into thinking that i have ever consumed trigun. i watched like 3 episodes each of '98 and stampede i know nothing about these characters. i just like trigun and always reblog trigun art anyways bc both wolfwood and vash remind me of my friends oc who i am vehemently obsessed with. i do plan on picking it back up though!!!! i want to read and watch it all!!!!

8- oh god. god. oh my god. im such a haterrr im such a hater. clutching my head. im not used to big fandoms so you have to understand the insane whiplash and like flesh-boiling hatred i felt upon getting into one piece(found family! fun/cute characters! cool adventures!) and seeing the community being so hugely shipping and very specifically Being Weird About Zoro. i ffucking hate how very popular it is to take zoro's usual Kind Of Unexpressive And Quiet/Introverted(shy) Nature and turn him into some weird Sexy Bishounen Yaoi Unquenchable Dom Daddy. this is typically also combined with turning sanji into some tiny little weak and flowery hairless biped twink who goes "kya !" for shipping/jackoff material purposes. like im going to kill you. im gonna bite your nose off. get your hand out of your pants and go sit in the corner and think about what youve done.

12- HEADCANONS IS SO HARD. BC I HAVE SO MANY REALLY SELF INDULGENT ONES THAT IM SO SHY ABOUT HEHE. but one i can give you right off the top of my head is that sometimes i hc that hes functionally illiterate, maybe even dyslexic. he was orphaned so damn young and never got any guidance or schooling outside of the dojo which he only found like, definitely after your typical learned-how-to-read age. and i dont really think dojos teach you how to read and write. it probably took a second for (some of) the strawhats to realize that his snappiness about getting made fun of for his shakey and messy handwriting or misreading/struggling to understand texts isnt just him getting annoyed or engaging in typical banter, but is really him literally not having learned those skills and getting embarrassed and upset about it. of course this isnt like. canon at all. he reads just fine in canon. but alas. we are all always one life-changing fic away from a new hc(<-what happened to me). so on the opposite side of the coin, i also hc that (literate) zoro needs glasses/reading glasses... but thats just cause i think zoro looks reaaaaaaaallly cute in them:] i need to draw zoro in glasses more...!

affection headcanons (Law, Zoro)

a/n: i’m revisiting this since it’s been roughly a year since i made my very first x reader post on this blog!! 🥳 i still stand by the old ones i wrote for mihawk and don’t have anything else to add for him so hawkeye’s idiot green son will have to fill in for him 💔

Law

Their affection, once earned, is quiet; Law is a lot more comfortable showing how much they care for you through their actions rather than words - making sure you’re eating right, subconsciously monitoring your wellbeing, and most of all - allowing you into their personal space

Don’t get him wrong, they still seclude themself away from the crew more than they should, seeking the comfort of being cooped away in their office for long hours of the day with only short breaks to eat or (attempt to) sleep, but these days they can’t seem to find the right rhythm unless he can hear your idle movement in the background

When they need proper alone time you acquiescence, and when you need to interact with the crew to prevent boredom, on occasion, Law will let you drag them out with you to socialize for a short while - and once they run out of batteries? You get to have his head resting on your shoulder, one hand on your captain’s thigh, or cuddle with their face buried in your chest 

Law doesn’t think themselves as a super affectionate person, and to a certain extent that’s very much true, but all it takes is a few months away from you, without your touch, without the steady thrum of your heartbeat in his ear and they’re a little worse for wear - they miss the physicality

It’s all internal, “where it should stay” they might add, but those close to Law pick up on their longing for you, the ache, how he might shy away from comfort even more to avoid any reminders of you even though that’s what they need the most

It’d be unfair to ask that you threw away your sedentary life to traverse stormy seas just so you’d be by their side though it luck would have that you were already among the Heart’s ranks, a quiet part of Law revels in that - it wants to be selfish, it wants to be possessive, that even if harm could come your way that it would be sure enough they would protect you no matter what

But of course Law would never admit to it, so they begrudgingly relent to Bepo’s “I can’t sleep alone tonight”s and Penguin and Shachi’s whining for just one more game of cards, knowing full well that this is more for themself than their beloved childhood friends and he appreciates them even more for making the effort for his stubborn ass

Or maybe they would, though only when you’ve long been swept away to the land of dreams, when Law’s insomnia gets the best of them and they’ve got nothing better to do than brush the hair out of your sleeping face and admit to every treacherous tender thought that they’ve ever had for or about you

How in the distant future, after swords have been sheathed and the call to adventure is just a faint hum in the wind, how if they were to ever build a life with someone - and prior to Dressrosa they never thought they would need to - you would be the man Law wanted to grow old with

Zoro

Contrary to popular belief and, well, how he looks (like a toxic male gum rat), Zoro has absolutely zero qualms with saying “I love you” to the people he cares about in his life, only cowards are afraid of emotion, after all

There’s no squirming or (warranted) uncertainty like with Law - just the firm, self-assured statement that he loves you and wants you to know that; frankly you’re a little taken aback and how easily he says it but maybe you shouldn’t be, considering just how affectionate his captain is with him and the rest of the crew

If you weren’t a Strawhat already well shucks, you’re an honorary one now because Zoro cares about you and Luffy loves you too!

You eat with him, you nap together, you train parallel to one another, your routines intertwine sooner than either of you realize and you both pick up habits around each other - the first thing you notice is that erratic sleeping schedule of his

It takes more time than you’d like to admit and an offhanded comment from Brook for the realization to dawn on you that Zoro stays up all night to protect his crew, his nakama; a little longer into your relationship when Zoro tells you about Kuina and the promise Wado holds, how she died in the night, you no longer tease your boyfriend about being able to fall asleep anywhere 

It’s not all bad though, having him nap during the day, you get to chat with Usopp or Franky while Zoro’s head dozes comfortably in your lap, unable to resist slumber especially when your fingers scratch through that layer of moss on his head just right and he pretty much only wakes up if there’s a loud enough explosion (on a good day with the Strawhats, there's one)

Bathing is a battle hard-won when it comes to Zoro, although with a few tips from the resident love-cook, you manage to get him in that bath at least more than once a week; nothing like the incentive of you being there too to sweeten the pot, right?

You coax him in with kisses, touches on his arm, then peel the hazardous material his clothes have become after a week on the ocean battling god knows what the seas throw at them 

From there you’re able to get him into a little bit of a routine; lure Zoro into the bathroom with promises of a “reward”, get handsy while you let him soap you down and vice versa, then soak in the tub after until Nami bangs on the door yelling at the both of you to quit using up the hot water

It’s a nice little system, and plus, hearing Zoro open up a little about his week in the same, raspy voice you get from him post-fuck in the tub with nothing between you is something you could very much get used to

Law

-Law walking passed your room as he was half way open. He was looking at some documents and he suddenly heard the soft melody coming from you.

-He would pause for a moment peeking into the room observing you as you carefree sang hearing the words “you won’t admit you love me and so how am I ever to know. You always tell me perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.” Carrying a tune holding the books in your hands doing a twirl as you made your way to the shelf to place the books back.

-In Law’s mind he admired how graceful you sang and accompanied with the small dance you were doing.

-Finally deciding to get your attention he cleared his throat. The tune disappears from your vocal cords turning to the doorway to see Law leaning against the door frame with his arms lazily crossed.

- “Oh Law, how long have you been there?” slightly blushing.

- “For a while ya. Just to give you an idea ~ you won’t admit you love me~ Very interesting song of choice I must say… but I do admire how well you carry a tune.”

- “you should join me next time!” your eyes sparkled at him as he gave you the small compliment.

- “Yeah not going to happen, it's not my thing...” Law said “but I don’t mind watching you do that.”

-“It would be a nice change of pace.” Walking up to him, cupping his cheeks with your hands “perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.”  Giving him a sweet smile coming out in a sweet melody tune.

- “______ ya that’s enough.” standing up straightly clearing his throat covering his mouth and part of his cheeks with his hand “I have to get back to work.”

Ace

-Ace loves when you’re in a fun spirited mood. The crew having one of their known ship parties.

- “Ace come dance with me!” you excitedly grabbed his hands.

- “Alright! Let’s go babe!” the freckle face grin peering on his face joining some of the crew that was already dancing, some due to liquid courage and other just because they liked to dance.

- Following the rhythm of the music Ace did have two left feet before meeting you. A lot of stepping on your toes but finally he was able to get it down.

-Hearing the lyrics coming from your lips “I'm, I'm so in love with you, whatever you want to do, Is all right with me.”

-Ace would sing the song with you slowly, your bodies gradually coming closer and closer, his arms wrapping you a bit tighter.

-The sweet words of the songs as you both sang with one another. The song did have a lot of meaning you both did go through a lot together and all those tough times made you stronger as a couple

- “Loving you whether, whether, Times are good or bad, happy or sad” both sang the song together with the low melody.

-The tips of your noses touching Ace giving you Eskimo kiss.

Zoro

- “I don’t dance _____ you know that.”  Zoro was working out lifting some weights.

- “If you love me you would.” Your index touching one another giving him a wide eye expression.

- The music is already in the workout room. Prior to asking him the question he was a bit distracted during his workout you yourself were singing “I'm falling apart in your hands again, no way, I've got to get away.” Your workout consisted of a dance workout.

-To himself he thought you were picturing yourself in a music video or something. The dance almost looks choreographed and the way you sang maybe not paying attention that you were actually singing the song. It started to look more and more like a music video.

-Noticing through the mirror you caught him looking, that's when you asked him.

-“Come on please.” Your hands tucking around his waist looking up at him. He was a bit damp from the thin layer of sweat. “No one is around, it's just me and you.”

- Knowing you wouldn’t take no for an answer “I’m not going to do all that fancy stuff you were doing…”

-Finally agreeing. Doing a small put that turned into a hum from you. He got the foot steps down pretty quick and began to take the lead.

-“You’re a great dancer, we should do this more often.” You smiled at the swordsman who had a small tint of pink dusting his cheeks

Sabo

-Sabo watched you for a good 10mins, his head resting on his forearms mesmerized how you were able to move as you sang along with the song.  “For the way you changed my plans, for being the perfect distraction.” Coming from your mouth you were in the zone trying to straighten up the living room in the process.

- The song that was playing was the first song you both danced to years back when you first started to date.  Sabo remembering the memory oh so well feeling the smile creeping on his face.

-It’s been a while since he has danced with you. Honestly one of his most enjoyable things to do with you.

-Your back to him as he took this opportunity to sneak up from behind you. Quietly and quickly he made his way to you.

Sabo wrapped his arm around your waist and the other held your hand. Feeling the warmth radiating from his chest he slightly twirled you to face him.

-Seeing the charming smile with his lower eyelid expression. “I couldn’t let you dance to this song by yourself my dear.”

-Your cheeks were  slightly burning. Taking the lead in the dance Sabo guided you around the living room.

- “You're the best thing I never knew I needed.” Sabo looked at you as he sang those lyrics to you.

This boy is in for a ride.

He is already clingy, so when he finds out you're clingy when drunk he's like: hell yeah

He'll be taking you to drink with his friends a lot more just to see you drunk. One beer, two beers, three beers...by the fourth, you like to place your legs on top of him while you're sitting.

He knows you've started to feel drunk

You start getting all flirty.

"Hey handsome..."

"Hey there"

"You alone?"

"Nope, I'm here with my s/o"

"Thats you, dummy"

You hug him, and rub your face against his shoulder.

You start mumbling sweet nothings, as he giggles and kissed your forehead.

If you keep drinking, eventually you'll fall asleep while resting your head on his his shoulders.

Sabo

If there was an inside joke in the revolutionary army, was how you always insisted on making a drinking competition against Ivankov. Of course, Iva-san can't get deunk, but you're determined to win.

"Sabo, [name]'s drunk again...and asking for you"

"Will they ever learn?" Sabo chuckles.

Answer: hell no.

"Sabo!! You're here! Wanna see me beat Iva-san's butt?"

"No, I'm here to take you to bed"

After reluctantly taking you bacl to your room, you're hugging him.

"Have I told you how much I love you?" You whisper.

"I love you too, darling" He whispers kissing your head.

"Would you cuddle with me?"

"Babe, I still have paperwork to do"

I'll help you with it tomorrow! I promise! Can we cuddle?"

With your face all blushed, clinging to him, he could harsly say no to you. So you agreed to cuddle with you.

The next day, you very hungover kept your promise. Even when Sabo insisted that you went back to bed, you refused as youd promised to help him with his paperwork.

Luffy

The crew always thought you and Luffy were a rather funny couple. As Luffy was as clingy as a sloth or a koala, and you weren't precisely the most affectionate person, yet you loved and adored Luffy.

Being childhood friends with Zoro, you'd constantly sit down and just drink. After a few hours of drinking nonstop, sometimes you'd reach your limit.

"Hey, Luffy~"

It was a very particular tone, that Luffy immediately set Luffy on fire.

He identified this as your drunk voice.

Boy, if Luffy was clingy, when you were drunk, he got a lot more clingly.

He'd run towards you, laighing victoriously, wrapping his arms and legs around you several times.

"Ah, yes" you murmrued burrying your face in his chest "You're the best hugger in the world, you know?"

"Shishishi~ you're drunk, [Name]"

"I'm not" You growled as Luffy patted your head.

The strangest noise came out if your mouth, it sounded almost like a cat's purr.

"You guys make me nauseous" Zoro laughed taking the bottle of sake and taking several sips.

"You're just jealous~" you said looking at Zoro as Luffy kept playing with your hair.

Zoro and you kept drinking, as you kept feeling drunker and drunker. And Luffy fascinated by how you became progressively more clingy

In the end, the both of you fell asleep on the deck, wrapped in each other's arms.

HCs: Fem S/O Wanting to Take a Break (Zoro, Kid, Crocodile)

Zoro

“I can’t do this without you.”

- Zoro is a man of very few expressions, and it’s always hard to figure out just what he is thinking most of the time; his brows seem to be permanently furrowed, and paired with that infamous scowl of his, it’s taken you quite some time to figure him out

- but, when you approach him with a sad look, he’s instantly alert to what you have to say as he’s been your biggest comfort throughout the relationship; Zoro was tough and cold at times, but whenever you needed him he was always there to get you through anything (we all know Zoro is secretly a big ol teddy bear)

- needless to say, he wasn’t expecting that his girlfriend all of a sudden wanted to take a break, especially after assuming everything was perfectly fine, if not great between the two of you

- when you tell him that you’ve decided to take a break from the relationship, you see a little shift in his demeanor, as if he’s cracking underneath the surface 

- his scowl is pulled up into tight lips, the brows that always hung low above his eyes are raised in shock and disbelief; and still, no words are able to leave him as he just looks at you, searching for any sign of pretense 

- the way you look at him, like you’re already beginning to view him as a stranger, it doesn’t sit well with him; it wasn’t easy for him to sacrifice his selfish and cold ways to fall in love with you, but he did it any way because he truly believes you are his person and even though he never says it, Zoro knows full well that he needs you in his life

- and now, you looked at him so coldly, so sadly he could feel his heart shattering in his chest; all the months, years you two worked together to make things happen, it was all for nothing?

- he couldn’t believe it and he refused to believe it; the scowl returned to his face as he turned away from you, his attention turning back to what he was doing beforehand, awaiting your laughter and reassurance that everything was fine

- but everything wasn’t fine as you repeated yourself, reaffirming that you wanted a break from the relationship, a break from him

- his back was to you and you figured Zoro had already begun to shut you out, easily accepting your breakup; so you turned to leave, grabbing at your bags and heading towards the door; that was until a firm hand grasped at your wrist, making you turn around

- you turned around to see Zoro an absolute mess in front of you; the usual stoic and stern swordsman was visibly shaking, lips quivering, and eyes messy pools that leaked down his cheeks 

- “I won’t let you walk away like this! Please, don’t leave me. I can’t do this without you.” 

- you were taken aback as you had seen your boyfriend cry before, but nothing quite like this; he was begging for you to stay, and though he tried his hardest to remain strong, he couldn’t stop the cracking in his voice as he cried for you; it was truly heartbreaking to see him like this and you couldn’t help but break down in front of him as well

- you attempted to explain how you were so scared of your immense love for him and how a break would help you sort your feelings, but Zoro would hear none of it as in a state of sorrow and desperation, he couldn’t help but cling to you as you cried together in each other’s arms

- his hands were eager as they roamed your body, rougher in contrast to the sadness in his eyes as he kissed your skin tenderly; he undressed you with ease as he littered your bare skin with affections

- “Please, just stay with me. I won’t let you be scared of us again. I love you. I need you. Always. Please let me love you forever.”

- Zoro shamelessly pleaded for you over and over, embracing and loving your body all the while tears still cascaded down his face; you had been so worried, so terrified of loving Zoro too much, and yet Zoro was only terrified of losing you; you were a fool to think this couldn’t work 

- it was a long, emotional night as you two got lost in each other, crying while reminding one another just what you loved and cherished in one another through passionate love-making

- it was the first time you had ever seen Zoro so emotional, soft, and vulnerable towards you, and with each loving touch and embrace, Zoro showed just what you meant to him and vowed to show you how much he loved you every day so you could see how he was just as crazy for you; there would be no more questioning, no more fears as he promised to love and protect your forever if you’d have him

Kid

“What did I do wrong?”

- the moment you come to him and say that you want to take a break, Kid is fuming, instantly argumentative

- all walls that he had spent breaking down for you are slowly beginning to build back up and he is pissed about it; he loves you and he doesn’t want to shut you out; he doesn’t say it enough but he never wants to lose you!

- why in the hell would you want to go on a break? he’s made himself vulnerable towards you, spent so many days and nights doing whatever it takes to keep you happy! you make him happy! since when was he not doing the same for you?

- is he not enough? is there someone else? do you not love him anymore?

- so many questions are rambling through his head that he can’t even think straight; he wants to kick and scream and hit something because he’s so upset right now; he hates not feeling in control of himself and at this moment he is collapsing right in front of you

- Kid is a very sensitive person, highly insecure though he tries his best not to show it; but the moment you try to end it with him, he can’t help but break down

- he yells at first, spitting false accusations, spilling guilt trips, blaming everything and everyone under the sun; nothing is making sense anymore but god the thought of losing you just makes him go crazy!

- then come the tears when he sees you not budging; he’s still screaming, not at you but more so at the situation, but the tears are evident as they roll down his pale face

- his body is shaking, and he’s near the point of emotional exhaustion after having that outburst; he’s still so mad, eyes clouded with agony, but he just wants to know why

- once the thunderstorm is over, Kid just reaches out to you, grasping for your touch, a reassurance that this is all just a horrible nightmare

- “Please, don’t do this to me. I need you. I really need you. Is this what you want to hear? What do I need to tell you to make things okay? I fucking love you! Is that not enough? What did I do wrong?”

- when you tell him your fears, the fact that you love him so much that it’s terrifying, and how you think a break would be best so you can sort your feelings…Kid doesn’t take that, and you should have expected as much from this stubborn man

- he rushes to you instantly, yanking your body close to his, and settling you down on the nearest surface; his stained lips are on yours, sloppy and desperate, his flesh hand roaming your entire body; he grabs your face to make you look at him 

- “Like hell I’m just gonna let you go so easily. Don’t say stupid shit like that. I love you and you love me. Isn’t that all we need?” 

- in heated passions, he undresses you fairly quickly, ripping and discarding your clothing without second thought as you let him; he needs to feel you, touch you, he needs to show you what you mean to him so you can forget your petty insecurities

- Kid has never been good with his words, he knows that, you know that, so he makes sure to show you with his actions by making sweet, passionate, intense love to you, reminding you over and over again how much you mean to him with every loving thrust 

- there’s no room left for questioning as he holds you close and rocks into your body with a tenderness only you get to experience from him; Kid’s not a sappy guy but he would be anything for you, so he doesn’t hold back in whispering sweet nothings in your ear, reaffirming his feelings for you, begging to hear you say you love him back

- he needs to hear you say it; he’s too emotional to go without hearing you confirm that you do in fact love him and that you won’t ever leave his side; please just say it

- when all is said and done, he won’t allow you to be so insecure any more; he makes it a point to say/show how much he loves you just a little more every day so there’s no more questions

- he needs you after all; you’re supposed to be by his side when he becomes the Pirate King; no King is going to let his Queen escape so easily! 

Crocodile

“You don’t mean that. Tell me you don’t mean it.”

- very disbelieving at first and is not amused if this is some sick joke; he can’t believe what he’s hearing and you can read it all over his face

- when you express to him that it’s not a joke, and you wish to have some distance from him….he can’t help but break down that calm and collected facade of his

- his voice unintentionally raises at this notion, he’s not quite yelling yet, but it’s obvious that what you’re saying has heavily upset him as his brows are furrowed and the scowl on his face has only sunken deeper

- Crocodile is an independent man and has little to no need of other people in his life except as pawns in his plans; but you, you’re the exception to all of it

- he’s given himself to you wholly, unconditionally, with no regrets; he’s chosen to make a life with you as his partner and he chooses to love you and only you every day

- and now all of a sudden you just want to throw it all away? he can’t let that happen, he won’t let that happen 

- when you explain to him how insecure you’ve been feeling, how scared you are of your feelings for him, his heart drops into his stomach and his body begins to shake visibly

- when you tell him you want to leave for a bit to sort things out, he can’t help but bite his cigar in half, digging his nails into his thighs

- “You don’t mean that. Tell me you don’t mean it. Come here.”

- even in the midst of your breakdown, you still find yourself obliging to your lover as you approach him, a part of you wanting to touch him one last time before you leave

- “You’re scared because of how much you love me? Don’t you think I was terrified to fall in love with you too? And still, I choose you, only you, every single day, and I’ll choose only you for the rest of my life. I’m not going to allow you to throw this away, (Name). I love you, so much. And I know you love me. Let’s not waste that.” 

- Crocodile pulls you into his lap to embrace you and soothe your insecurities; his big arms wrap around you without hesitation, his flesh hand petting at your hair

- he lets you cry into his shoulder though his heart is racing, awaiting you to tell him that you’ve changed your mind and that you won’t be leaving him; the wait to hear you say you love him is agonizing

- the moment you pull away to apologize, he responds rather quickly with connecting his lips to yours; it felt like years before you said anything so he wasn’t going to waste a second longer 

- his lips are passionate and his thumb wipes at the tears that flow freely down your cheeks; he leaves kisses all along your face and neck, gentle affections that form as apologies for letting you worry so much

Favorite thing about him: HE’S A TALKING SKELETON. HE’S ONE PIECE’S SCHRÖDINGER’S CAT, DEAD AND ALIVE AT THE SAME FRICKING TIME. HE’S SO LIGHT HE CAN WALK/RUN ON WATER DESPITE HAVING EATEN A DEVIL FRUIT. HE DRINKS MILK TO HEAL HIMSELF BECAUSE HE’S JUST A PILE OF BONES YOHOHOHO.

The way he talks freely about his feelings. (you rb that GIF set earlier and I was like “yes, yes, YES. Take example everyone, be that open about your deepest insecurities and have a Robin in your life.”)

Least favorite thing about him: the panties joke. (Although Shakky was willing to show him hers and I respect that)

Favorite line: “May I see your-” Just kidding! I don’t remember a precise line but his yohoho of course. We’d be so lost without it. Oh and that 90° angle joke! Fall for it every time.

brOTP: with the Straw Hats. Like give me nakamaship, nakama-fluff and I’m on board? Can’t wait for more interaction with Jinbe. And maybe more Swords Bros things with Zoro, Law and the new lovely people of Wano? Did he ask to see Kiku’s underwear yet?

Have you read Weight of a Soul by startaroux? If not, do it. It’s worth every minute you’ll spend reading it.

OTP: Never considered actually. For various reasons I avoid shipping the Straw Hats (together or separately) (bar Frobin because it’s already canon). But... Are there pairings with Brook out there? And centered on Brook, I mean? Quick search gave me OT3 so...

Could Brook/Yorki have been a thing? Just to add more heart-break because, you know... (*after a quick search*) There’s actually 6 results on AO3 and I don’t know when but I’ll read them all because I think I’ve definitely found my OTP for this one. Please make it hurt.

nOTP: Honestly I think Brook/Anyone is my nOTP. I want him happy, I want his (canon) dreams fulfilled. I might be wrong but I don’t think a romantic relationship would play well into that. Even in AU, I always saw him as the cool old musician neighbor. Platonic for the win, I guess. or with Yorki apparently now ahahah

Random headcanon: Never wrote about him or thought that much about him honestly... He wore glasses while human, he has no eye-balls anymore but still sees like before. That would be fun if he still had eyesight problems. Chopper would totally be freaking out. New medical enigma.(I want to write it now, good job Lily...)

Unpopular opinion: Can’t find one cause I’m out of the loop about him and fans’ latest dilemma or scream-about.

Song I associate with him: Le bon rhum de Binks, bien sûr! Binks no Sake but in French because that’s the version I heard first. To this day, it’s still stuck in my head and I hold it dear, teenage years in front of the TV, singing in the kitchen, feeling like a pirate and all. I remember Ryuma humming the tune. I instantly loved it. Plus I love Brook’s original voice but his French voice actor is doing a very very good job.

Here’s the stripped version post time-skip. I like it better than the long one during the party at Thriller Bark. Plus there are whales and when you look into it, the fiddle tune sounds a bit like whale sounds. (Another headcanon on why Brook’s fave music instrument is the violin?)

Hello Icy! I used to write really bad fanfiction, but have improved my writing skills through school and reading. Do you have any tips for getting back into the fanfiction game?

Whoot, yeah! Welcome back to the world of fanfiction! (blink twice if you need help ;p)

As someone who went on a very, very, very extended hiatus myself and then came back in a brand new fandom, I’m going to pull from my own experiences for this one. If anyone else has something to add please do chime in in the comments! 

1. Write what you want to write. It can be easy to want to write something “popular” so you get a lot of hits and comments, but if your heart isn’t in it then it’s going to show. I have a number of older fandoms that I enjoyed writing it and while the audience was never really there it was something for me to look back on (and cringe, really now, but at the time I thought I was God’s gift to that fandom XD Shoot me) and read and enjoy myself. 

2. Have an update schedule! This one is really important. Whether that means you pre-write the entire fic or you buckle down and commit to a regular posting (which is how Color was for me for the first couple months until I pre-wrote enough to kick back and relax a bit xD) be it weekly or bi weekly or every two weeks (the other bi weekly? Such a weird word) you do that. 

When you get people on a schedule and they are more likely to come back and comment with something other than the dreaded “update soon!” because they know you are going to update soon and when exactly that is. Give readers something to plan and look forward to, just like a favorite TV show that airs weekly. 

3. Respond to comments. Whether you write giant-ass paragraph responses (cough, I really need to tone myself down sometimes xD) or even a simple “thank you ♥” it goes a long way. I know I always am more inclined to really keep up on a fic where the author has shown to appreciate their readers (although if I read your fic and like it I will comment regardless ♥)

4. Read other authors’ works you enjoy but do not self-promote. Please don’t do that. I hate it when I see that and it makes me even less inclined to check out a fic (I’m already very picky with what I read and don’t read much at all). By all means comment on the fic and be like “I headcanon Keith is a good cook too!” because those personal details are lovely and maybe that’ll inspire that other author to click on your profile to see if you’ve got a fic with such a theme to go read.

But otherwise, keep your comments about their fic (or your reaction to it) and show your excitement and passion for that fic. Bookmark too (and Ao3 lets you add comments; you can bet if I see a nice comment on a bookmark tag I’m clicking on that author to see a; what else they’ve bookmarked and b; if they’ve written anything). Well written and passionate comments tell a lot about a person and if they can write a nice review they likely can write a nice fic and could be worth an extra click to see their profile. That is indeed how I’ve found several authors and fics I now read :)

5. Write an engaging summary! Simple in concept, but believe me, it’s hard. Especially if you’re on FF with their character limit (although it does force you to be concise and I prefer that over the sometimes 300 plus word summaries you see on AO3). Use that paragraph as your hook, line and sinker all in one. Make people want to click on your story. Stuck? An engaging piece of dialogue is always my go-to and I craft the rest around it. Do not ask for reviews in the summary or go “this is a crack story that I thought you all might like” etc; save those for author’s notes in the fic please.

6. Cliffhangers are your friend (even if readers curse you out over them ;p). They are an amazing writing tool that builds up that suspense and tension and makes people keep coming back because they need to know how it ends. Use that to your advantage :D But not every chapter as no one’s heart can take that kind of stress ;p

7. Chapter length. This I have noticed over time but shorter chapters (for me around 3k-4k) tend to get more comments than longer ones because people have “more time” upon finishing to leave a comment. It doesn’t always work but it is something I’ve witnessed on more than one occasion. That said, don’t write a chapter of only 1k words and think they’ll pour in because it’s short. Leading on to…

8. Whatever your chapter is, make sure it has content that people will want to respond to. Not every chapter has to have explosions and action and intense heart-to-hearts, but every chapter should have something memorable. Filler chapters are unavoidable, especially in longer fics, but do what you can to make them not quite so “blah” and give them some heart. 

9. Tag appropriately (if applicable, i.e. Ao3) and also put warnings/tags at the top of chapter one. There is nothing worse than reading a story and enjoying it and then boom; character death. Boom; unexpected romance. I will still never forgive this One Piece fic I was reading that was all about Sanji and Usopp friendship and was really well written with a great plot and then I kid you not walked right into a Zoro x Sanji sex scene that I have no interest in reading. Ugh. Legit thought I had somehow clicked to another story, but nope xD  Don’t do that to your readers. If you are going to have a relationship, mark it as such. If you’re going to kill someone, mark or note a major character death (you of course do not have to say who).

Also, do not fill up the tag space with every tag known to man. Just because you can does not mean you should. I know I skip over any story where the tags extended more than a few lines down (taking into account tagged characters and relationships as depending on that it can fill up quick xD)

10. A good number to end on ;p And this one I really relate to. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, meaning really write multiple things. I came off my hiatus with Color and knew from the start it was going to be around 25-30 chapters (how naive I was). I also knew that I was going to be a Lance whore and there was no prying me from that part of the fandom. That said, I did make the decision to branch out to a few other fics (Over the Edge, my Burning/Shining series, Sin) to explore different facets and characters because different people like different things, even if all of them (cept for Keith’s backstory fic) relate back to Lance.

Having a mix of a longer running chapter fic (for those “episodes” back in bullet point two) to keep people coming back and having a few shorter fics (be one-shots, two-shorts or shorter chapters) to draw in new people and help you out when you get stuck on your other fic is invaluable. I have never been much of a one-shot person outside of challenges, but writing a whole host of them this year (i’m up to what now, 25? Something like that) definitely expanded my audience and brought in new readers and gave me little boosts of support whenever I uploaded one.

Zombie-tongue translations AKA Ly is once again way too invested in fictional things

Don't judge me

I wasn't gonna trust my own bad hearing on his rap so I found that in the YouTube comments on the My Year video, idk if that person wrote it by ear or copied it from somewhere, so that may or may not be official lyrics. It did look copy/pasted so there's a chance? The rest I just played over and over again and wrote down whatever I thought it sounded like, sometimes I couldn't quite tell exactly what it was so I put down a few possibilities and that's where there's /'s. Anyway, here's some notes on how I figured some of these out, just in case it's not obvious. If anyone has some suggestions for what I couldn't translate or alternate translations to what I could, go ahead and share 'em~!

Notes/explanations:

I'm sure we all got "grusic", "za" and "gar-garziga" down straight away. And probably "zagrabage" too, so there's no need to go into them. I'm not feeling too ambitious so all I'll say on the rap is that I think "ziggy" could be "hungry", if only cuz it's the most similar sounding word there? And evidently, you add "-ka" or "-ska" to the end of a name, I'd guess which one you use depends on what flows better with the last syllable of the name. Alternatively, "-ka" could be used for zombie names and "-ska" for human names...?

I guessed "zu ru" pretty quickly because it seems pretty obvious to say "for you" when giving someone something like that, and it fits the kind of syllable count/near-rhyming pattern I'm seeing (side note, this is the most precious moment, his voice is so soft and his tiny smile...!!!)

"Hug-ga ru, za?", again, has a pretty obvious meaning but it's more how it's written/punctuated that I wanted to get down. Since "za" is "yes", it could easily be used for, like, asking for confirmation/permission and I had picked up that "ru" is "you", I could put all that together and that would make "-ga" a sort of signifier or something? It's been a while since I took English language so I don't remember if that's the right word but I'll just hope you know what I mean (you could always just ask me if you don't)

I'm not too sure about his response to "no more classes in a dingy basement!". He might be saying his own name, I can't tell if there's a 'B' there or not, which could mean zombies refer to themselves in third person, or it could just be a habit Bonzo has (more fuel for my autism headcanon!). If not, I don't know what he could mean. "Gu reh"/"greh", I think could mean "go in"? Just "let's go in"? Seems like it could be something a bit more than that, but it's a possibility. Thoughts on this one...?

Then as Zed, Eliza and Bonzo are walking past the "no zombies" graffiti and Zed is talking about Addison, Bonzo makes a comment "zabaya/zabala greeska". If "-ska" is like an honorific/signifier-type thing for a person, and, as in a later line, "gree( r )" means "cheer", "greeska" could be "cheerleader", which fits nicely into the context. He's making some comment about Addison which Zed pretends to laugh at and snaps "very funny". So "zabaya" or "zabala" is something Zed would be annoyed at him for saying

Ah, "gazar nutty garzain garstick". Oh, Addy. You tried. Might not seem obvious at first, aside from "nutty", but it does really make sense. Pretty much explained in the table. But what's interesting about this one is we can pick up something about the grammar/syntax/structure of Zombie-tongue from it. The phrase only seems to have "thanks", "peanut butter" (or just "peanut", I guess) and "umbrella", which would mean the "rubbing" part would have to be implied. So Zombie doesn't really structure its sentences like English does, which kind of brings us back to the idea that the language was made to be easier for zombies to articulate. Dropping particles of speech and mostly unnecessary words would help as well. I think a more direct translation would be "thanks for the peanut-butter-y umbrella". That's a thing I just typed. Let's move on

WHATEVER THE HELL BONZO SAYS TO ZED AFTER BAMM. I DON'T KNOW. BUT IT MEANS "WHAT'S UP?" BASICALLY. At first I thought it ended with "-zo" but with the context, "what's up?" or "something up?" made sense and the pattern tells me it should be "-zup", plus it had to be something that Zed could respond to with "I don't know". I just can't tell if that was a 'B' or a 'G'. Can anyone tell? Then "zorog" or "zoro", to which Zed says "don't worry". Just saying "worry" or "worried" to show concern, again, could just be a way of simplifying speech for zombies... or it could be even more fuel for the autism headcanon. Still, any other ideas what it could mean?

"Agraza"/"agaraza". I have no idea. I wonder if Bonzo knows what they're actually doing with the Z-bands? Maybe he was asking what she was talking about? Is he suggesting an actual answer? This one just completely eludes me

And finally, "deh gree( r ) jadganook" gets directly translated by Zed! And I have no clue how to spell the Zombie for "championship", or if there's an 'R' in the Zombie for "cheer" but it's coming up to 1am and I have spent almost an hour on this already

... This was fun. I kinda wish there was more *^* Please, Disney, give us either a sequel or, better yet, a series, if for no other reason than for me to translate Zombie-tongue
