ok time to actually talk about them:

their dad -

to those outside of the sect, he very much lives up to Intimidating Nie Sect Leader position and is generally pretty :/, even with allies. very curt, rarely maintains a super long conversation, etc etc

to those in his sect? absolutely lovely. he’s patient with his disciples but still p stern, he’s a tad bit lenient on some things/situations, bt just. very understanding and shows a lot of care. 

Basically if he barely knows someone thats within his sect he’ll have an hr long conversation w them but if the person is Not under his sect the max amt of words ure getting from him is like 10.

he spoils the HELL out of his kids and wives. its where mingjue gets his habit of buying everything nhs asks him for + more, and its also why nmj was pretty easy on nhs about things until his death.

he can cook pretty well, and was teaching mingjue how to cook before his death, and he always cooks with nmjs mom

He also was a p good artist, bt got embarrassed abt it easily. hes got lil journals filled w sketches of his family and friends. nmjs mom gave them to mingjue before she passed, & he brought a tiny one w him everywhere during sunshot (where he also started doodling in his own journals)

nmjs mom -

VERY strong cultivator. VERY. to the point that if she wanted she could’ve overthrown her husband and taken over as sect leader w/o problem

She went on every night hunt that her husband went on, disciples went on, etc. etc, and the SECOND mingjue was able to come with she was so excited and nmjs dad had to be like “honey pls let him do smth himself” even tho he was just as excited

She started studying different instruments during her pregnancy, mainly Erhu since it was commonly played in her home sect, and she used the music to sooth nmj once he was born (and eventually nhs) so when nmj hears an erhu he j I Sleep on impact

When nmj started doodling as a kid she also tried to learn w him but they eventually just turned to scribbling. or, on the rare occasion nmjs dad would let them Have a drawing or two, they’d color the drawing in

She was very much involved in nmjs training w the saber, and would teach nhs the basics of using a sword, so a lot of her quirks in fighting passed on to him.

and speaking of quirks, nmj got his eyebrow quirk from her.

oh also she absolutely ADORES nhs’ mom and nhs of course...........she referred to nhs’ mom as her wife constantly and nhs is her baby boy........she taught nhs the music knowledge She knew before her passing, hence him being able to pick up the flute so quickly in fatal journey

she was also the one to first meet nhs’ mom and the next time she saw her while w nmjs dad she just “what if you married her too. what if i married her.” and he “im down w either way bro” and then they both married her

I’ve kinda hinted about how she died (VERY SUBTLY) in Fog in The Mountains but again its super subtle and i think most people perceived it as nhs trying to set nmj up to go see lxc himself SOBS. I’ll be discussing it more openly in another one shot im planning tho

nhs mom -

absolute tank. when ppl hear of her they assume she was nmjs mom not nhs’.

She has two older sisters, w one becoming the sect leader of her home sect. sect leader sister is even bigger than her.

She wasn’t rlly one to settle like. for real. like obviously she spent a lot of time w her kids, but she always went back and forth between her home sect and the unclean realm and wherever else she wanted to go.

Every now and then she’d take nhs & nmj or her wife n husband, or all of them, with her as mini trips, but for the most part she goes by herself. 

probably spoiled nhs and nmj more than their dad did, bc every time she returned from a trip to the unclean realm her horse was packed w bags of gifts for them.

(nmj got his first dagger from her when he was like 7 and his dad j HES TOO YOUNG bt his moms gave it to him anyways) (nhs also gets a dagger when hes 7, but his mom wasn’t . alive by then :( )

she was actually a p good seamstress and made some of nhs’ baby clothes, along with a fabric fan that nhs still has. he only brings it out for his birthday celebrations anymore, because hes afraid to damage the patterns sewn into it.

She ended up being very involved in the minor war between her home sect and another small sect, and as discussed in Snow Field, she died fighting for her home when nhs was really young (abt 6ish)
