[stuffing, brief mild belly torture, tummy rubs]
Sunny was laying on the couch when Laurie walked in, holding a pot of box macaroni and cheese in the crook of his arm. He looked up at her, only slightly ashamed, as he dipped his spoon back into the pot. She stared at him, hands on her hips.
"Sunny, what the hell are you doing?"
"Havin' dinner," he said. He'd already eaten half the pot, and his full tummy was apparent even under his baggy pajama shirt.
"Don't you think an entire pot of mac and cheese is a bit much? You know, considering you're a skinny little peanut?"
"No."
"You couldn't at least use a bowl?"
"Come on, Laurie! What, is the pope coming? Let a guy live a little!"
"You are such a fucking specimen. Move," she said, pushing his feet out of the way and sitting at the end of the couch.
"You want some?" he asked with his mouth full.
"I'm good," she said. "Somehow, it isn't all that appetizing." Sunny shrugged and stuck another spoonful into his mouth. Laurie leaned back and turned on the TV, shaking her head. He stretched his legs back out, laying them across hers. She shot him an agitated look.
"Would you get outta here?"
"What, you don't like my jammies?" He tugged at the fabric of his pant leg. "Look, they got dogs on 'em."
"They don't even match," said Laurie, poking the smiling crescent moon on Sunny's belly.
"Sure they do," he said defensively, waving her hand away. "They're both blue. Besides, they're from Goodwill. You can't get matching jammies at Goodwill."
"Okay, fair." She looked at Sunny's belly for a moment, then returned her attention to the TV. "Aren't you full?"
"No," he lied. As a matter of fact, he was full. A little too full. His belly was absolutely stuffed to the brim with flimsy noodles and fake cheese. In his defense, he had been starving when he first sat down with the pot. Laurie had been able to hear his stomach growling from the other room while he was making it. Now, that hunger was a distant memory, and his belly was feeling heavy and bloated. At this point, though, he was committed. He couldn't quit while Laurie was watching. Stubbornly, he continued eating.
"You certainly look full," remarked Laurie, poking his belly again. It gurgled uncomfortably in response. "And sound full."
"Quit it," he said, swatting her hand away.
"How come you can't ever just admit it?"
"There's nothing to admit!"
"You are so stubborn!"
"So are you!" He glared up at her. Fed up, Laurie reached out and pressed her hand into his bulging tummy. He groaned and tried to push her hand away.
"What? You're not full, right?"
"Laurie," he whined, squirming under her hand.
"What? I thought you weren't full!" She pressed more firmly. His stomach felt tight and solid.
"Alright, I'm full! I'm full, okay? Please, Laurie, my belly hurts," he groaned. Laurie's frustration at his stubbornness vanished, and she suddenly felt awful. She took her hand away.
"Jeez, Sunny, I'm sorry," she said, ashamed. He was a little surprised to hear what sounded like genuine remorse in her voice.
"You're so mean," he muttered, setting the pot down on the coffee table. It was nearly empty. His stomach let out a miserable gurgle. He stared blankly at the TV for a moment, then looked back up at her with big, sad eyes.
"Come here," she said softly. With a grunt, he pushed himself upright, then curled up against her side as she pulled him into her arms.
"Always pickin' on me," he mumbled. He wrapped his arms around her.
"Pickin' on you and your poor little tummy," she said, resting a hand on his belly. "I'm sorry."
"I forgive you for your crimes."
"You're a sport." She rubbed his belly, and he immediately began to melt.
"Keep doin' that," he said, yawning, "and I won't even put spiders in your mouth when you go to bed." Laurie laughed.
"Deal."
