When looking at both Godwyn's death and the (properly translated) explanation of Ranni's endings, an important facet of Ranni's beliefs becomes clear. Her views aren't just end justifies the means, but are more specifically that those in a place of power have a responsibility to sacrifice for the greater good. Just as she was willing to subject Godwyn to an eternal soulless life, she's just as prepared to walk an eternal path of solitude and cold if it ensures that faith and order will not condemn people to an imperfect system.
While this doesn't make her assassination of Godwyn any less horrible, it does illustrate her rationale behind it and highlight that her view of herself is similar to her view of Godwyn.
#girlbob.txt#elden ring#elden ring spoilers#i guess#idk many its been a year and i feel like most people know she was behind the night of black knives but just in case#im gonna make this not rebloggable I think its mostly just for my own ramblings#ranni's ending also shows marika fading away#suggesting she let marika die and possibly chose to host the ring herself#as marika remains a husk of a host in the other 3 repaired ring endings#i see this as an act of mercy from ranni upon one of those affected most by her actions#perhaps she views marika's punishment as enough for the flaws of the order#or perhaps she pity's marika's obeisance to the two fingers/greater will#no way of knowing but im happy to speculate
