Break and fear for Pietro 🤔👀
Break: What would cause your OC to break down completely? What do they look like when that happens? Has anyone ever seen them at their lowest?
So, here's the thing about Pietro: when he was a kid his father frequently physically abused him and belittled him. He could never do anything right in his father's eyes. This led to him having severe low self-esteem as a child and often he wondered why he wasn't loved because he was a very tame, slightly nervous, introverted child. Eventually as a teenager, the result of so many beatings and cruel remarks led to him snapping and in that moment?
Pietro saw nothing but black as he knocked his father out with a lamp. To this day his father refuses to talk to him, his sister is far more empathetic but to know your little brother is capable of such rage is frightening and always lives in the back of your mind as something to avoid or try to subdue.
There were a few more moments, when Pietro was a petty con artist/gigolo where he got into similar brutal situations like this. It typically stemmed from the feeling his life or safety was at stake. Pietro doesn't like feeling like he's out of control of his emotions, he truly feels like that wrath is an out of body experience and therapy has helped him find coping mechanisms to avoid any accidents.
But, there are still exceptions to Pietro absolutely losing his cool and breaking. And that's if you harm his dog or harm Rosaria. Fredo and Rosaria are two people he genuinely cares for, outside of himself, and unfortunately he finds himself identifying with the exploitation Rosaria faces with Raphael, which amplifies his need to protect her.
Fear: What is your OC's greatest fear? What do they do when confronted with it? Are they open with their fear, or do they hide it away?
So, I don't depict this in Sink or Swim at all, but Pietro really is a religious person and he has certain deep paranoias about improper religious conduct. He believes you will be cursed for claiming yourself to be higher than God, he believes that horror movies like The Omen or The Exorcist invite demonic thoughts into your mind, and he doesn't like God-related jokes because he feels like that's inviting trouble. In fact, while I'm on this topic, Pietro absolutely believes in Sicilian curses and the evil eye. He is vocal about how he would like to avoid these things at all costs.
