a juke au, brought to you by juke jeudi and a side of greek tragedy:

au where luke is the deity or demon or whatever of death: he goes around picking up souls who are about to pass on and makes their transition to the afterlife easier, more comfortable, less scary (which helps when you’re a goof who loves music and uses that as a way to ease people into death)

and one day he shows up to rose’s hospital room, at the end of her bed….which causes julie to jump and freak out and ask him who he is.

luke is confused julie is confused— how can she see him? it wasn’t her time yet..he wasn’t here for her- only those who are about to die can see him, but she’s full of life and yet?

but anyway he takes rose away when it’s her time, but can’t stop thinking about the mortal that can see him…so he goes back to check on julie, to make sure he wasn’t dreaming — and she can still see him. except now she hates him for taking her mother away…

so it’s a struggle - but luke doesn’t give up, as he keeps following her until eventually something happens and they fall in love etc etc i haven’t thought that far ahead 👍🏻

(bonus tragic-adjacent ending: when the time comes for julie to pass on, she can no longer see luke..for some reason everything’s reversed and tho she could see him when she was alive, she can’t now. so luke does the only other thing he knows will put her at ease- he sings to her, guiding her with his voice…she eventually joins in as they make their way to the afterlife)
