I do agree with you and believe that people especially those trauma and pain can feel cathartic when seeing problematic or sensitive issues portrayed in fiction media and other media, I've seen it happen personally and have personally especially catharsis watching some shows.

But it has to be done with a level respect and shouldn't a glorification of these topics. Raphielle though doesn't, he sees it yes as problematic and a messed up dynamic and there is a sliver of psychological nuance in his art and animatics BUT when looking at the whole picture Raphielle is glorifying r*pe in his art and animatics and gets a sort of kick out of it (I do not kink shame anyone but I'm sorry going to be VERY personal here r*pe kinks and many other egregious kinks I cannot condone, I live in South Africa literally the "rape capital" of the world... Nine-year age gap is such a weird thing to get fixated on? I know healthy couples with 20 year gaps, once you're an adult it's really not a big deal. I've seen a lot of Nicky/nickstat hate recently coming mostly from loustat and lesmand shippers and it seems like they're grabbing at straws to invent reasons to hate Nicky. Saying how ugly he's in comparison to Louis and Armand, how Lestat never loved him and only used him for sex. Perhaps it's a part of the declining media literacy because some of them uncritically believe Armand's fanfic? And like, Nicky was long dead before Louis was even born, he's no threat to anyone? The worst part is when shipping wars encourage people to post ugly comments about actors, I saw people calling Joseph "an ugly wet rat" on twtter and- unlike Sam- he actually is on social media so he's gonna see it! I I can't imagine how worse it will get after s3 :(

Yeah, I mean, look, one of the areas I work in both as a freelance writer and at the theatre company I work at is in personal safety, which ranges from child safety to cultural safety to interpersonal safety, so I'm kind of taking off a meta hat here and putting on a Real Life Hat, but the internet age gap discourse outside of relationships with minors (which, of course, is very different), is, frankly, a bit silly. Like, yes! It can be a factor and it's important to discuss the reality that even outside of adult-minor relationships, age and experience feeds into relationship dynamics, and can contribute to abusive dynamics, but treating it like it's the be all and end all of power in a relationship belies so many other elements from gender to race to class to education to somebody's isolation and vulnerability, to a million other things.

Social power, and as a result, power in relationships, is not a flat issue and shouldn't be treated as such. It's so, so dependent on context, both historically and currently, and to deny that I don't think does anyone any favours.

As for the Nicki hate - - I mean, I'm not surprised? It's disappointing though that people wouldn't embrace the reality that people can and do love more than one person in their life. I tend to hope that people who feel that way are pretty young and haven't been in many relationships, but like - - I don't know! I feel personally at least that relationships I've had in the past have made me love others more, not less, and Nicki gets to be a vital part of Lestat's story while not being his entire story? Like that's compelling! Characters should have histories! I personally don't want protagonists popped out of blister packs, and it lowkey bums me out that some people do.

I hope Joseph isn't seeing the Nicki hate, but you're probably right that he is. Unfortunately, I don't think there's all that much that can be done about it.

it is because that piece is a redraw of wiru sons cosplay. i was particularly concerned that without explicit mention of that it would rob them of credit too for something that wouldn’t exist without their work first. i feel involved in that also even though I know it wasn’t me who made that video.

In my original post on twtter I made it very clear that it was based off wiru son and it was a post wiru son acknowledged. It is unfortunate that the piece is reposted without this important context.

i don’t know how to speak out for myself in these situations. i am very easily overwhelmed with anxiety. i don’t think people realize that is a thing i experience in these situations and it is incredibly hard for me to do anything besides shut down if i think about it too much. i just try to pretend this one didn’t happen.
