you seem really knowledgeable about japanese lit!! were you interested in that before you got into bsd, or did bsd encourage you to learn about it? :0
I knew next to nothing about Japanese lit or much about modern Japanese history prior to bsd— I was even months into bsd before I started seriously learning more.
(I didn't even realize the author motif wasn't a Guild bit until the anime introduced Fyodor Dostoevsky— at which point it occurred to me that if they're introducing authors that aren't North American, the Japanese characters were probably inspired by authors too. Which is embarrassing because... bungou, lmao.)
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#i recognized “no longer human” because junji ito adapted the story...#but i didnt remember the og author's name 😬#anyway#im living proof that idiot americans CAN learn

I wonder if Beast!Dazai was inspired by Junji Ito's adaptation of No Longer Human
In the adaptation Yozo (Dazai's self insert) meets the author. He looks the same and has almost the same life story, and it's the only person Yozo is comfortable with even after Dazai recognizes the mask, because they're both wearing the same mask.
