So there was a post a while ago that referenced Eddie having the (and I'm quoting here) 'autistic rage' that would allow him to beat up Billy if he needed to and I want to dissect a couple of things about that because... woo boy, it's all bad.

So, firstly the phrase. You should recognize that that's a rebrand. In the 80s and 90s (and 00s) honestly, they wouldn't have said autistic, it would have been the r-slur. It was used to dehumanize people and their reactions to, generally, ableist abuse. And it's still not okay to imply that real people become mindless monsters due to circumstances beyond their control. It's a bad phrase, you should strike it from your vocabulary.

Now, the behaviour it is so callously referencing is, as I said, a trauma response. Kids I went to school with used to intentionally trigger violent outbursts in an autistic boy at our school by being relentlessly cruel to him in small but consistent ways because they thought his explosive reactions were funny.

The teachers, who were willfully blind to the abuse because he was difficult to handle, would only adress what they saw as his disproportionate reactions and he would be further punished and traumatized by an ableist system.

Rinse, repeat.

And there is actually an example of this exact type of trauma response in the canon of the show.

To me the fight at the Byers house is obviously that exact thing. That entire night was one triggering event after another until he finally couldn't bear it anymore and he snapped.

And people vilify him for it. Gleefully. And imply or outright state that he deserves further abuse because of it.

Just food for thought.

Lol, posting this even though I’m feeling paranoid because a week ago an anon asked me what I thought her rebrand should look like and I said she should go full coastal grandmother style and have more fun outings with friends.

Then she immediately had “sightings” at the Barbie movie and the TS concert, and now she’s in beiges and blues. Coincidence? I hope so.

But I don’t think it’s a bad strategy. I’m guessing she has a deal with that calming patch company, and that’s not a bad partnership for someone who’s main claim to fame is a high-profile suicide attempt. Going the woo-woo route is also a good idea because she’s very articulate but not very smart. She can’t discuss policy or complicated ideas, but she can do a mean wellness word salad. Can she compete with Gwyneth, though? I think not. I think she’s better off aiming for a less rarefied clientele than Goop’s.

I would advise her to tone down the luxury brands because these many labels for a casual visit screams rabid insecurity. She needs fewer items and some mid-level brand deals.

She also need to narrow her target. The Barbie and TS leaks increase her SEO, but that’s not her target audience. She should focus her press on books, wine, and other areas that interest the wealthy middle-aged women she’s targeting. Barbie, TS, and the rom com she’s working on skew too young. She needs to hit that Eat Pray Love demographic. She should get a good market segmentation report done.

But not a bad start. Definitely better than what she had before.

Meanwhile, Harry is now dedicating his life to charity. So much for Hollywood domination.

New look, same story

Hey folks! Did you enjoy the memory lane posts? I know I did! Before we jump back into the story, I want to give you a heads up. For the TL;DR folks, I'm rebranding The Piersons and Friends, so be on the lookout for new banners, colors, etc.

For those who enjoy my thought process, board my train of thought under the cut. (woo wooooo!)

A year or two ago, I gave my blogs one cohesive look. I wanted to brand myself! So I made this banner and have been using the colors and fonts from it for everything.

In the spirit of rebranding, I also remade the banners for PnF to match this new style.

Recently, I realized this was a mistake. I make different banners for my stories to give them their own identities. Changing PnF's assets to match the blogs essentially took away its identity, and that's probably why I've felt a bit unsettled when looking at it lately; it didn't work for me anymore. I needed to change it, but to what?

This story is a rotation, but it's also the story of a family, the Piersons. That's why I used trees in the previous banner. The tree also reinforces the organic feel I want. The story is funny sometimes, but it's not a comedy. It's sometimes dramatic, but it's not a soap opera. It's everything all at once and flows in and out of various emotions seamlessly--organically!--which is why script fonts work well for the title. Looking back at old banners, I had those elements and didn't even realize what they meant and how well they worked.

It was clear I needed to go back to my roots with the tree and script font, so I set out to make something new. I also needed to move away from the black and yellow. Even though I could think hard and come up with some deep, philosophical reason for why I use those colors, frankly, there is no reason. I was new to storytelling on Tumblr at the time, and I just did what I saw other people doing. Also, I didn't have the design knowledge I have now and was just winging it.

Black doesn't convey organic according to color theory, so I ditched it, made white my primary neutral, and introduced green, which just so happens to be Kameron's favorite color! I suppose, theoretically, we can pay homage to him for generations after he's gone, but I'm sure this story won't be around that long. I also wanted to make the banners more modern to match the present-day setting. After trying a LOT of different designs, this is what I came up with!

I know, I know. "But, Jess! Where's the tree???" It's there! I promise lol. It's just very blurred and covered in bokeh. I think it works for the modern style. It still feels very organic to me, so it's working.

I added the characters' names to the banner because I think it will help new people who begin reading in the middle.

So what do you think??? Did I accomplish my goals? Does it work for you?

My design brain tells me I should go ALL the way with this branding thing and change my dialogue typeface to the sans serif one I'm using for the subheading. But, a. it only comes in regular, thin, and bold, and not having italics is problematic for me (see what I did there lol), and b. Myriad Pro is perfect for what we do because it's clean, readable, and has multiple fonts in its family. I experimented with green text, but yellow just works better. Honestly that's how I started using yellow in the first place. But anyway, that's my announcement! I hope you enjoy the new hotness!

Basically I'm burnt out on GW2 so not playing that currently and getting into FFXIV. I figure rather than making ANOTHER new side blog I can just turn this into a general MMO blog.

puyo puyo (ぷよぷよ) is a japanese puzzle game originally created by compile (but they went bankrupt) and owned by sega!

the series originally started as a spinoff of a dungeon crawling game called madou monogatari (I know jack diddly squat about madou). in puyo puyo the main characters of that game (as well as a few enemies) fight each other using magic spells casted by connecting 4 or more of the same colored puyos together to pop them!

the compile era of the puyo puyo series stars Arle from the madou monogatari series as the protagonist, where in most games she attempts to stop satan (that's actually the villain's name) from doing a bunch of evil stuff. arle's also got a magical rabbit thing as a companion, his name is carbuncle and he likes curry :) other characters from this era that continue to show up in newer games are schezo, a dark mage who accidentally turns every sentence into an innuendo, and rulue, a fighting queen who has a crush on satan.

psst! 3 of the compile era games are available on switch! sega ages puyo puyo 1 and 2 are both ten bucks and if you have nso you can play the snes version of 2 on snes online!

both sega and nintendo tried to localize these games, but in doing so, they stripped the games of their original madou monogatari personality and replaced them with other games. sega localized pp1 as a game you might recognize as Doctor Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine, while nintendo made the slightly more obscure Kirby's Avalanche (ALSO AVAILABLE ON SNES NSO!!)

a BUNCH of stuff happened, the localized games didn't do well, puyo puyo became more popular than madou, and compile went bankrupt after years of shoving puyo puyo down everyone's throats non-stop

they then handed the rights to puyo puyo to sega, but completely forgot about the rights to madou, meaning madou monogatari is completely dead at this point with no hope of a reboot, and puyo puyo is still goin strong.

when sega got puyo puyo they decided to completely rebrand the game, and it ditched it's dark dungeon crawler aesthetic for a more fun colorful vibrant tone, and thus, Puyo Pop Fever was born.

Fever was a sort of reboot for the franchise, starring a new protagonist named Amitie, a very cheerful student who goes to a magic school, and a bunch of more awesome colorful characters (and arle she's still here)! A sequel to puyo pop fever was released in japan called Puyo Puyo Fever 2, but due to the poor sales in the US, the game never made it over to america and this would be the last localized puyo game. for at least 10 years.

also puyo puyo fever 2 introduced sig!!! the best boy!!! fun fact he's half demon but does not care about that at all and instead of doing all the traditional demon things like taking over worlds he simply don't care. he's got the bug autism and likes bugs very much :)

uhh MORE TIME SKIP! another reboot was created called Puyo Puyo 7! New protagonist named Ringo who is a regular middle school student and does regular japanese middle schooler stuff until Arle comes back and is possessed by something and is all like "you have the power. you can pop puyos now." and crazy highjinks ensue!

ANOTHER TIME SKIP!

puyo puyo 15th anniversary is released and surprise surprise it's also a reboot but this time it features (almost) ALL the important characters from the previous games! woo! and then 5 years after that 20th anniversary happened which was much better!

a crossover game between puyo puyo and tetris called Puyo Puyo Tetris was released in 2014! remember this!

*FINAL TIME SKIP I PROMISE*

oh hey remember what I just said? guess what! it's 2017 and sega is acknowledging for the first time people in america want puyo puyo! they then release a localized version of puyo puyo tetris onto nintendo switch and other platforms and it's a hit! people liked it! they liked it so much that in 2020 it got a direct sequel which wasn't just left to rot in the prison of region exclusivity and actually got localized as well! hooray for puyo puyo!!

Sonic Mania: One of the bosses in sonic mania has you playing Puyo Puyo against Eggman, and once you beat that boss you unlock a special mean bean machine side mode!

Puyo Puyo Champions: A puyo puyo game purely focused on competitive play, with no story. You can play using either normal puyo puyo rules, or the special ruleset introduced in fever.

Puyo Puyo Tetris: A crossover game between puyo puyo and tetris, featuring new characters based off the tetris blocks! Has a pretty ok story, the localizers took a few liberties here and there, sometimes they didn't understand the references to things and left them out.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2: A direct sequel to the game I just mentioned. Improves upon the story alot, all the previous characters return as well as 2 new characters! There were also a few characters added in later through free dlc! Currently the second newest puyo puyo game, and also the second most definitive with a bunch of cool sidemodes!

Currently, the newest game in the series is Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, which is THE definitive puyo puyo game! unfortunately it's stuck on apple arcade so you need an iphone, a bluetooth controller, and a subscription for that if you wanna play. this game technically is incomplete as the story is being added in through updates, but what they've got now is really interesting!! they're finally doing something with the "sig is half demon" concept and now he's the villain of the game! so cool! god I want this game ported to consoles so badly... SEGAAAA GIVE ME EDGY SIG!!!

there's also a japan exclusive mobile gacha game called puyo puyo quest. it's aight. I've played it once and then deleted it because gacha games update regularly and my phone is running low on space.

William Hann has a nice ring to it... but alas in On a Friday baby Hann has been rebranded as Christopher and he's going to stay that way 😂

I was feeling really ambitious in terms of getting a lot of writing done (it's a holiday in the US so no work today woo!) today, but unfortunately did not get as much done as I had planned so far. Somehow Fictional!InfectionVerse!Matty is being really difficult this chapter and I'm like sir you are unconscious you're not supposed to get to have an opinion. I'll get it sorted and ready for tomorrow though! Then we'll have Make Way for Ducklings, and hopefully the next chapter of my Matty x Taylor Fake Dating fic soon as well - that one is my current favorite child and my baby and I haven't been super happy with the second half of that chapter, hence the delay (then again I might be the only person that likes that one haha) I also have more prompts to fill! And am also always accepting more prompts even if I am slow with them.

Okay, sorry this took so long, Rosie,that is a very lovely meaning. My story, I think, is a bit silly. So back when I was like 14, I did a bunch of different usernames I wanted to use; some were like Blue Hood because I like capes with hoods, and a lot were related to stars, especially one playing with the word Nova.

And here comes the silly part: back in those days, they were using a lot the word noob, and I had the idea of combining Noova with noob, because I was a noob at the moment, but one day I´ll be a professional, and I think I would then do something like a rebranding, which now I don´t think would be a good idea just changing my name when I am well established (and I also like my username).

I´m also not a native English speaker, but for another username I had, I learned that two oo sounds like you in Spanish, and I liked the sound of it. It sounded really cute. Fun fact: I wasn´t sure that the sounded I wanted was correct until @inkabelledesigns said it on one of her streams, and I was like, "Okay, it sounds like I wanted woo!" So thanks, Kat!

Multicolors is a reference to two things: 1) the idea I had where my sona would change colors based on emotions, and 2) my different taste in genre, like one day you get fluff, another a big angst, maybe a bit of horror.

And that´s it! I still like my username, even with the silly backstory.
