MILGRAM Best Song Tournament, Round 2, Match 2 BRING IT ON vs. THIS IS HOW TO BE IN LOVE WITH YOU
Propaganda for both options under the cut!
Propaganda for BRING IT ON:
"Reasons why Bring it On should win:
- Just by starting the song, the instrumentals are BANGER. Like his more rock style is very cool, even better than After Pain’s more mellow style - Arthur’s voice (Futa’s va) had bills due because have you HEARD his singing?? His raspier voice fits Futa so well - It feels so explosive and like a call to action in a sense, which very much matches Futa’s mentality during trial 1. He also wasn’t playing victim like a CERTAIN girl… (jk, love you mu!) - SAA HAJIMEYOU USOTSUKI KARIDA - UNDEAD HEROOOI YES SLAY KING HIS HIGH NOTE HERE IS HEAVENLY - His scream at the end. Oh my god. HE LITERALLY ATE THIS NOTE. AFTER PAIN COULD NEVER. BRING IT ON FTW 🔥🔥🔥" - His range goes WAAAAAY higher than Mu. She would end up like PHG if she even tried hitting any of his high notes in the last chorus /j
---
- The vocals are amazing, those growls are so well done - You’re able to get Fuuta’s crime and motive pretty succinctly, only based on the visuals - But it still leaves a lot up to interpretation, like how he only attacked once in the final fight scene. It lead to some cool theories. - On that note, the game aspects are so cool!! Especially when paired with him going after people online, just good synergy with awesome style! - Fuuta’s scared face after he realizes what he did. The great contrast of other foes simply being knocked out then being met with blood splatter. - The tempo of the song changing with his mood is a really good touch as well. Make the song more chaotic which highlights his character traits well
---
"propaganda for bring it on: the music FUCKS it genuinely slaps so hard listening to it. song style is incredible its perfect for fuutas personality and gamer vibes. also the way the mv frames everything as a game? the only time real blood and real gore happens being when killcheroy dies? the little details of all the usernames, the different monster designs, the generally distorted feel of everything being too lighthearted?
okay i could go on about the mv for hours but lets not. aside from that: the FEEL of the song!!! the vocals!!!! it really feels like fuuta putting his whole heart into it, into this point of view that both blows problems out of proportion and minimises them, and DEEPLY fucking up. my darling little hypocrite gamer boy twitter user. he makes his witch hunt genuinely sound like something that could sweep people up into it. also the instruments goddddd. the guitar and synth the bass and the drums the DRUMS. im relistening to it to write this propaganda and it keeps making me headbang when i should be writing. if you arent headbanging to bring it on you are LYING.
the way the lyrics are written is wonderful too!!!! they feel so brash and brave and powerful and like. cocky about it. and it fits PERFECTLY. its gets someone swept up into it and it FUCKS. vote bring it on im serious. lets go!! a victory march!! dan da dan!!"
Propaganda for TIHTBILWY:
okay so like the thing im most in love with: the VOCALS!!!! this song has an absolutely AMAZING singer and AMAZING vocals!!!! the way the conversational talk-singing lines still feel so musical!!!! the cute cute cuteeeee mahiru voice!!!! it brings you so much energy!!!! its a song sung with so much love!!!! mahirus va brings such an amazing feel to the song with such amazing talk-singing!!!! its very skillfully done and it happens in i love you too!! mahiru songs r the QUEENS of musical talk singing
the silly phone call bit. kurururu~!
the little vocal flourish and the way her voice raises up like an excited exclamation in the final prechorus!! daijoubu nante kirai DA!
its such a fast song but everything flows so well!!!! it makes it feel so bright and cheery and peppy!!
the instrumental is so underrated just LISTEN to that catchy bass line thats so pretty in the verses!!!! no for real even if u dont vote this is how to be in love with you go listen to the bass line in the verses it works to move both the song and the listener forward at mahirus sweeping breakneck pace. and the cute keyboard sounding and synth instruments!!!! its SUCH a danceable song!!!! i cant listen to it without bopping along in my seat
the way the ominous bits are subtly hidden? it all sounds so cute but there are just these Things that she sings that are really kind of concerning and unhealthy when she sings them!! and the veiled desperation to be in her relationship- listening to that and the cheery tone and breakneck, quick song pace, it really does represent mahiru SO well. she throws in all these little bits that just go noooo teehee the relationships just fine!! when it REALLY isnt
i would listen to mahiru talk for hours
the MV!!!!!! HER FASHION SENSE THE MAGAZINE STYLE!!!! the magazine style especially works so well with her character!!!! its so cute and stunning and just looking at it you have a blast. also her birdcage!!!! her birdcage and the bright orange and the pink bars!!!! the way everything desaturates and becomes more sickly looking when she wakes up at the end!!!! its such a happy carefully curated and designed dream and then it drains away!!!! also god all her outfits are stunning. mahiru call me
the way she sings "overheat de~!" cutest thing in the WORLD.
the little faces she makes!!!! godddd shes so expressive
actually the whole songs so expressive!!!! shes putting her all into it!!!! her words have so much expression in them!!!! once more praising mahirus va the way her voice can soften and become bright or subtly desperate so quickly is MASTERFUL control of expression when singing and its so underrated. join me in being insane over miho okasaki delivers her lines. shes such a perfect mahiru.
funniest es cover. hands down. funniest es cover.
this is how to be in love with you is FREE serotonin!!!! free energy right there!!!! this is how to be in love with you sweep!!!!!
---
-The song is so cheerful!! I always feel like dancing and singing when this one comes up in my playlists!! Absolute banger, mood definer, kicking sadness in the shin with those high-heels and then hitting its face with a cute purse -THE HIGH-HEELS STEPPING TO THE BEAT OF THE MUSIC IN THAT ONE SCENE (0:50). SIMPLY ICONIC. NO ONE DID IT LIKE HER. -👠💅👝👗 -She is slaying. Look at her outfits. She put so much effort there. She gave it her all. Absolutely serving. -SUKITTE KIMOCHI WAKATTA TSUMORI? NARA KONO MAMA FUTARI O-VA-HI-TO- DE -The storyline of the mv MAKES SENSE and you can form a COHESIVE TIMELINE OF EVENTS (unlike other unspecified contestants' mvs you know 🙄) -look at herr 🥺 she beby 🥺 all she did was love too much 🥺 we all love mappi don't we 🥺 she deserved more let her win this pleease 🥺 -No medical malpractice happened in the making of this mv 👍
---
I care so much about This is How To Be In Love With You- it's visuals are brilliant in the ways it conveys its themes and narrative. I'm never normal Ever about the "Love as marketing" symbolism that is brought in by the use of magazines. It's a lovely upbeat song but the Horrors are Always Lurking under it, the breakup Ritual line is my Favorite Line cause its so horrifying but its said so casually and its so good oh its so good-

If I were to rank the new unit songs it would go like doing my best not to account for bias
As a whole-
1. More more jump
2. Vivid bad squad
3. Nightcord
4. Wonderlands x showtime
5. Leo/need
Based on mv alone
1. More more jump
2. Vivid bad squad
3. Nightcord
4. Leo/need
5. Wonderlands x showtime
And based on the song alone
1. More more jump and vbs are tied for this one but maybe that’s just bias
2. Nightcord
4. Wonderlands x showtime
5. Leo/need
This is to say. I really do think mmj ate everyone else up encapsulating what a unit song revamp is supposed to be. It perfectly captures their energy and represents them amazingly, the song is really catchy and feels like it was truly 100% made for them and not like just another cover, the choreography was amazing, the camera work added so much to the experience, and the effects were just the perfect amount for their style.
I tried not to account for bias when it came to vbs, I really do think they just have one of the best. Their song balls so hard, it perfectly encapsulates them, and as always they have the best choreography there. I personally loved the mv, but I do think it was a bit lacking in some areas.
I didn’t think I would put nightcord as consistently high as I did bc tbh there’s was NOT my fave. But I do think, similar to mmj and vbs, it did an AMAZING job capturing their energy and who they are. It was a very pretty mv, although a tad boring to me. I think the combination of slow song + very light and minimal movement + minimal effects + empty background knocked it down quite a bit bc it just made it stand out a lot less and not feel quite as memorable. That said it really is still amazing and I love the aesthetic they have. Definitely not to my tastes but I think it’s very good at what it’s meant to do, though not exactly the best.
For wxs, I honestly didn’t like it very much. The song sounded kind of messy to me and I don’t think it captured their vibe very well with its sound and presentation. Their mv was also pretty immemorable and I don’t think the effects were the best and the choreo was. Alright. But it was far more visually interesting and took its role seriously as a unit song even if I don’t think it was a good fit for them. Tbh wxs and leoni are closer to being tied in my mind I’m realizing.
For leoni, I said this in my last post, but I did like it but it felt really really weak compared to every other units. I really liked the camera work and the cut aways to the instruments and the rain effects. However it had a similar problem to nightcord, a slow not very catchy song (I just listened to it not even ten minutes ago and can’t remember most of it), even less movement, an empty environment, and even though it technically has a lot of effects, they weren’t eye catching or memorable and even though I liked the rain on screen it could be a bit distracting. The filter/colors in the video made it also feel like a pre third anni mv too. DONT get me wrong overall I liked it but it was really immemorable and I don’t think it did it’s job as being a new unit song very well. However I do think it very well displayed their vibe and their story, which was very nice.

Girls' Generation - Forever 1
Well I sure did learn a lot from this album. First, PRODUCTION MATTERS. Like, this album sounds 100% different from 2010’s SNSD, and miles different from their debut album. You can tell that SM has gotten better production since then. It feels really samey after the first few songs, but it’s produced well enough that I kind of don’t mind. The lowest score is a 7/10, that says something. At the same time, only one song got above an 8, and that one was a 9. That says something too. It was an extremely safe album, but I’m sure fans loved it. I could hear their voices so clearly compared to earlier albums, I think it showed all of their vocals off really well. Average score of 7.7.
I don’t know any songs off this album and I find the title kind of ironic because they are not in fact forever 1, unless they were 1.125 when they debuted. Sorry, my Jessica stan is showing.
Forever 1
This sounds so much more modern than their other stuff
Just like, in terms of the production
Still got the group chorus though
Actually this feels like something Twice would do for their 15th anniversary lol
The MV feels kind of generic, but then, the song itself is kind of generic
Can’t really argue though. It’s celebratory and anthemic and it just feels Good to listen to
Not sure I buy the English lyrics. “Just like a love bomb, we are one” like huh?
8/10, it’s pretty good. Not their best title track, and I think I prefer Knock Knock if I want that kind of anthemic encore feel, but it still feels good to listen to
Lucky Like That
Their “L”s are so clean
This is exactly the same vibe as Forever 1 haha, maybe this was a contender for the TT?
I think I actually prefer the vocals in this one
Bridge is kinda boring and uninspired
Oh okay, I guess we get a guitar solo now
This totally fits haha
8/10
Seventeen
Oh okay, it’s not a ballad, it’s dancey
The piano is serving two roles here and that’s super nice
We haven’t heard much vocal flexing yet though, maybe we are due a ballad
Post-chorus is mid
The rap section is actually really nice, love how they’re interspersing sung vocals
7/10, good song but not totally for me
Villain
“GG805” haha wtf
The bass here is nice
I like their vocals in this range too
Haha okay, you can tell from the chorus that this is SM post-aespa
Actually this would be SO good as an aespa song
Doesn’t seem like the producer has worked with aespa, but he has had a bit of work with SM
8/10, I like the feel of this
You Better Run
You can’t be SNSD and release a song called “You Better Run” without me having Expectations about that song
Mkay, I buy it so far
Woah that vocal thing was cool
This album in general is actually not what I expected. I was expecting bubblegum all the way through, but no
Woah this chorus Hits
This is good. I’m glad SM gave them Good music for this comeback
9/10
Closer
Alright, bubblegum time
This is definitely more like the type of song I’d expect from SNSD, but again, the production is just sooooo much better than their original stuff
This isn’t pure bubblegum though, it has this tinge of sadness to it
Woahhh I love how the instrumentals just dropped out there, good stuff
8/10
Mood Lamp
Mood Lamp?
What’s a mood lamp?
Very quiet, vocals and acoustic guitar and muted drum samples
Okay, we’re a bit louder now, adding snaps and a synth and some snare
Ohhh this is a slow jam in disguise, I see
It really doesn’t Sound slow jammy to me but it totally Feels slow jammy
“I would fit you well” woah okay now
Oh my god it ends with “Turn on my light” lmao
7/10
Summer Night
What is this, lofi?
The vocals do sound So good though, with the minimal instrumental
This is honestly so nice
Just like, strip back all the instrumentation, give us a nice chill track to vibe to
I quite like the default sound of this album
8/10
Freedom
Bass is doing a bit more here than the other voices
What is that in the background? A flute maybe? I didn’t get a good listen
Mkay, we’re a bit funky now
I dunno though, I kind of want more from this. If I wanted a chill song I’d listen to Summer Night, gimme something more from this
Oh, the flute is back for the bridge
Can’t say the bridge does much for the sound though
This kinda reminds me of Red Velvet - Look for some reason
Nah these ad libs are not earned
7/10
Paper Plane
Not to be confused with Paper Heart, the other final song I just listened to haha
Yo this entrance is also kind of Look-y
The bridge is kinda wild lol
The thing is, it’s not like, an Anthemic ending to me
The chorus is a bit too quiet, the instrumentals aren’t powerful enough
Also we’ve stayed in a very similar volume-space the whole time
7/10

The Dice album has me in tears from just how proud I am, the tracks are so so so beautiful. So groovy, so smooth, so fun, so emotional, so sweet, so sexy, so Onew. It’s a huge directional pivot after begging to get him out of the grandpa sweater vests and into a title track with bass and choreo and boy did they deliver - without compromising any of his identity! This album is gonna keep me company all summer long with such repeatable tracks and good energy throughout. My only gripe is that I almost miss a track with soaring vocals like the bad love outro they went so hard on every styling choice that I have no idea which fit/scene/track to turn into my wallpaper 😂
Initial impressions:
Dice - THE MV IM SCREAMING I love the whimsical elements and the MTTM call backs and actor Onew and oh lord does he look so good in every shot and the lemon woman at the end is sooooo precious and dancer Onew absolutely slaying?? And the fits and his smile and goo everywhere ugh I’m not saying anything of substance I just love love love it
Sunshine - I usually love the rnb jams the most but sunshine is so damn special. I’m partial to it esp bc it keeps the mttm/dice whimsy vibe alive and it’s just such a stylish arrangement, the joy and groove throughout the track is relentless. The verses are sexy and enticing, but it builds up to such a fantastic can’t-help-but-wiggle-in-your-seat chorus. Very likely this is one of the b-sides he’ll perform on music shows and I can’t wait! Getting ready with pina coladas in the Bahamas. 🍹🏝
On The Way - this song is written by Sam Kim, Cha Cha Malone, Adrian McKinnon, and Tay Jasper, it was already guaranteed to be rnb bop of the century before it even dropped. Because the other tracks have so many fun musical elements or intense vocal power, this one ends up feeling a little more chill and mellow on the album, but it’s welcome! True to the rnb genre, this track flows smooth and sultry, the harmonies are dreamy, the bass and claps the perfect amount of drive without overpowering the vocals, and onew’s tone is *chef’s kiss*
Love Phobia - WHEN I TELL YOU I WASNT READY FOR THIS ONE it knocked my socks off, it’s so colorful and dynamic and I’m always noticing something new even though it doesn’t seem like a powerhouse song on first listen. The pre chorus falsetto followed by those punchy chorus bass synths followed by the lil runs + yeahs? Scrumptious. Taemin liked this track for Onew too so it’s meant to be 😌
Yeowoobi - I haven’t even looked up the lyrics yet and my heart is so soft. The low notes and falsetto in the verse and pre chorus is exquisite as sets up the chorus well! Head over heels for the murky, layered bass esp in the chorus. THE BRIDGE IS EXEMPLARY this is where Onew gets to show off his range the most I believe, just a lovely track.
In the Whale - the 80s synths and velvet soft vocals I’m ascending. Onew wrote some of the lyrics and dedicated this track to shawols so I’m not sure if I’m ready to move from just vibing to possibly probably crying. This song is beautiful.
I am attempting to ahem small river for this one bc Onew really deserves the most, thank you for such a sweet gift jinki 💚

hello, i saw your post abt loona n twice, and my reply was too long, so i thought i'd send you a long-ass ask instead.
---
so like i just got into kpop a year ago so I know a bit abt twice and even less about loona.
for me, i personally divide twice songs into their early cutesy concept, their current mature n refreshing concept, and then their (slightly) "darker" concept. i'm not rly involved in the twice fandom, so i don't know if these are widely agreed-on categorizations, just my personal ones. there are also songs that don't fit into any of these concepts, but for the sake of length, i've skipped over them. heart attack by loona gives kinda cutesy vibes, so a few twice songs from their cute era might be your vibe, and then the feels is from their more refreshing era (e.g. right now). my personal favorite is their darker concept. here are some good songs from each era:
cutesy: knock knock, likey, cheer up, tt, what is love
refreshing: the feels, perfect world, alcohol-free
"darker": cry for me, more & more, hell in heaven
all of these also have mvs, except hell in heaven. my absolute fav videos are the mv for more & more and the kelly clarkson performance (not the mv :0) of cry for me.
---
as for loona, i've only listened to a few of their songs, but heart attack might have similar upbeat vibes to hi high, hula hoop. some of their more popular ones that i've also listened to include why not?, so what, and PTT (paint the town). also if you haven't seen the mv for heart attack yet, you should bc it's cute n gay. actually i assumed that was one of the reasons why you liked it - it's actually how i got into loona LOL.
hope this helps! i'd love to hear your thoughts if you ever get around to listening to any of these, or if you ever need any more kpop recs!
Thank you SO so so much omg this was exactly what I was hoping someone would help me out with in terms of song recs omg ur mind is so big!! Thank u! Also I have NOT seen the heart attack mv I just am obsessed with the song but I’m literally on my way 2 watch it RN. I literally know nothing abt K-pop except when I was hyper focused on the black pink documentary and watch it liked three times in a row for some goddamn reason but I really wanted to listen to more girl groups so I really appreciate this :) thank u again legend!

I’m doing this for fun simply because I'm rewatching them all so,
Here's my personal ranking for Every Gorillaz Music video, based both on song and the video itself:
(This is going to be a long post)
PHASE ONE:
Tomorrow Comes Today: 7/10. I love this song and the video fits its vibe, but its still pretty simplistic and not a whole lot of actual animation and no story, so it gets points off for that.
Clint Eastwood: 10/10. I love this one honestly. Its still so charming after all this time and showcases the band well for their early days. Love the more moody tone of it, and I always love seeing the band actually play instruments in their videos too. Bonus points for Murdoc's laugh opening this one because I love that.
Rock The House: 9/10. Pure fun. I don't have a lot of commentary for it, I just think its fun and I love the song itself too. One point off for Murdoc thrusting his hips too many times for my eyes tho.
19-2000: 10/10. This one was the first Gorillaz video that I saw and it really is just a nice non plot connected video. The 3D animation still manages to hold up because of its mix with 2D animation in my opinion and I enjoy it.
Rockit: 5/10. I like the song but the video is kinda meh.
PHASE ONE MV'S OVERALL: Overall I like phase one and I miss Del. Bring him back.
PHASE TWO:
Dirty Harry: 8/10. 2D is just vibing so hard in this video and I'm living for it. That’s all that matters. (Side note but I love the version of this video they did for the BRIT's as well.)
DARE: 10/10. Noodles time to shine, a perfect song, what more could you ask for?? (Also love the bit with Murdoc at the end of course.)
Feel Good Inc: 10/10. This one is obvious if you know me at all. Murdoc playing his bass is what sells this one for me cause I enjoy the animation. The songs amazing and one I find comforting to listen to, and the mood of the video fits it perfectly. Theres some really fun shots with lighting while 2D is standing at the window too in the tower in here that I've always liked.
El Mañana: 6/10. I love this song but it makes me sad and so does the video.
PHASE TWO MV'S OVERALL: Phase One is iconic for its art style and for being The Beginning, but Phase Two is my favorite of the two for its art. I love how these videos are animated, and even if Demon Dayz is my least favorite album, the songs in these videos are all very good. Pretty solid as a whole all things considered.
PHASE THREE:
Stylo: 10/10 LISTEN, I KNOW SOME PEOPLE HATE THE CGI, BUT I LOVE IT. It’s so expressive, this song is one of my absolute faves, I’m sorry to be such a Murdoc liker but hes so much fun in this video and so expressive and it starts the story off for Plastic Beach. I love it so much.
On Melancholy Hill: 7/10. It’s not a bad video, and I love the song a lot, but...not a lot actually happens in the video aside from the bits with Noodle. Bonus points however go to just how seamlessly it puts 2D and 3D animation together, and for how cute 2D looks this whole video.
Rhinestone Eyes: 9/10. WOULD BE A 10/10 IF WE’D GOTTEN OFFICIAL ANIMATION FOR IT ;-; (The fan animated video for it tho is Very very good and i applaud that whole team.) Amazing song, this video has the most story packed into it so far from all the other videos and it’s memorable from its storyboards for that alone.
Doncamatic: 10/10 Listen...Listen I know its a one off and it doesn't really have anything in it but I’m obsessed because its one of my favorite Gorillaz songs tbh and I love Daley’s outfit in it so it gets a full pass from it.
PHASE THREE MV’S OVERALL: I love every video this phase tbh, none of them are bad. All of them are fun,and even if Melancholy Hill is a little slow, it’s still enjoyable. I love this phase because they all connect and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way either.
PHASE FOUR:
Hallelujah Money: 7/10. It’s not at all bad, but I’m as not fond of this song, and the video itself is much too trippy for me. Still has its own merits tho that I won’t knock it for even if it’s not my personal taste.
Saturn Barz: 10/10. Everything about this video is amazing. Character designs and as a comeback for the bands animated counterparts, it was perfect. I loved hearing them actually speak again too it made the whole thing so fun. The song is fuckin awesome and it fits the vibe of the whole video. Bonus points for the more lineless animation style they gave everyone in this video, it was a really neat change from past phases. My one complaint is again stop making me see so much naked Murdoc, I may like him but not like that.
Sleeping Powder: 6/10. I am so split when it comes to the mo cap models. This songs good but the video is again too trippy for me.
Strobalite: 9/10. Would have been 10/10 if Russel got to dance with 2D and Noodle, but other than that its pretty damn good. The mo cap looks way less awkward in here, particularly Murdoc and Russel. Also hilarious that Murdoc made a deal with the devil, and the guy who played him is actually his voice actor irl. This songs too much fun to vibe to as well.
PHASE FOUR MV’S OVERALL: Not much for story, but makes up for it in updated art and great music again. Solid overall yet again. I like it.
PHASE FIVE:
Humility: 20/10. Literally every single person I know who’s seen this video loved it. The animation is Beautiful, the song is so fuckin catchy, Jack Black is in it! What more do you want!! (The only thing I could have asked for was to see more of Ace but that’s its only flaw.)
Tranz: 9/10. I love this song so much but this video is Again just a little too trippy for me. However, we get to see Ace just jamming out in this video and I’ll take the trippiness just for that.
PHASE FIVE MV’S OVERALL: I was surprised there wasn't at least one more video for this phase honestly? I feel like Kansas or Souk Eye would have made for great videos for this phase. That aside tho, both the videos it does have are a lot of fun. My literal only complaint is that I wanted to see more of Ace. Bring him back in the future.
PHASE SIX:
Momentary Bliss: 8/10. This songs fine, but what sells it for me is the video is more slice of life/a day in the life of the studio. I’m always a fan of those moments. Bonus points goes to Murdoc trying to fuckin poison Jamie and it backfiring on him.
Désolé: 10/10: ooooh this song is so beautiful...I love it so much. 2D Noodle and Russel got to have such a fun time in this video and they deserve it. And poor Murdoc, having his little sad times by his asshole self. I love him but I think he deserved it. The others needed a good break from the bullshit and I’m glad they got it.
Aries: 6/10. Video itself is kinda boring, but the song is nice. Murdoc deserved to be left behind in Désolé after what he tried to pull here.
Friday the 13th: 3/10. I don’t care for this video and I really don’t care for the song. Not much else to say.
PAC-MAN: 6/10. Video’s fine, I like some of the little details in it, but it’s nothing special. The song itself is nice tho, super calming, I like it.
Strange Timez: 20/20 MY GOD I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH...VISUALS ARE SO FUN, I LOVE ROBERT SMITH SO I LOVE HIM IN HERE, ITS JUST A GOOD TIME ALL AROUND!
The Pink Phantom: 5/10 I just don’t really care for this song?? I like Elton John but I couldn’t get myself to like this one no matter how many times I’ve listened. 2D got to be happy in this video tho so I’ll give it a pass.
The Valley of the Pagans: 6/10. This song fuckin slaps but the video feels like a boring redo of 19-2000 except for it’s ending. It gets points for giving everyone Plastic Beach feelings at the end and hyping up the video after it.
The Lost Chord: 20/20. Y’all knew this was coming. This was something I’d BEEN hoping for story wise and I finally got it. Was it maybe a little rushed? Yes. But GOD it was such a nice thing to see them say “hey we’ve wrapped up this part of the story for good and want everyone to move on from it, so we’ve given it a properly acknowledged final send off.” And tangibly seeing everyone's emotions laid out about the island and their times there was very nice. And I know Jamie and Damon have stated Murdoc is irredeemable, blah blah yes I know hes an asshole still, but I WILL think about Murdoc in this video and how he seemed actually regretful and what that means to me and the fact that it was no one else but 2D himself being the one to reach out to Murdoc in the end to save him until my dying breath, thank you very much. And this song?? Fuckin beautiful, it had those Plastic Beach vibes again and felt good for it’s send off song, I love it.
PHASE SIX MV’S OVERALL: I may be a little split on some of them and on Song Machine as a whole, but tbh I love the phase six art style so much and most times the videos were pretty good. Bringing back PB in the end was something I always wanted too so it really does get bonus points from me for that. I’m 50/50 on them overall. The great ones are great, and the meh ones are just kinda boring, so it evens out in the end.
STAND ALONE VIDEOS MENTION:
Do Ya Thing: 10/10. I’ve said before I love the 3D animation and the slice of life stuff, so this one’s obviously a favorite, and you really cant go wrong with an Andre 3000 feature either.
Superfast Jellyfish: 3/10. This song is kinda fun but I don’t give a single shit about the music video.
Garage Palace: 8/10. Very fun pixel visuals for a change along with a killer song, super enjoyable.
So what’s my final verdict on Gorillaz and their long music video history?
Honestly for a group thats been going as long as they have, I dont think they have too many misses in their catalog. The ones that aren’t as fun are just kinda there, but the videos that really stand out stand out far above the ones that don’t hit the mark as well and in the end it all feels like a good balance. No band has a perfect video every time, but the ones that Gorillaz did well they did amazing on and I enjoy it immensely when that happens.
Sidenotes after watching all of those:
For the love of god please put Russel in the videos more, please, he deserves it and I would love to see him more.
On that note, BRING DEL BACK WITH HIM TOO!!
And speaking of characters to bring back, I want Ace to come back and join Murdoc sometimes, even if its only once or twice more, I need to see them interact PLEASE.
Last note but Jamie, please, I’m begging, show less of mostly naked or fully naked of Murdoc in future videos, we’ve had our fill by now.
#can you tell im hyperfixating again??? anyways#kief rambles about gorillaz#gorillaz#this was fun but good lord

☕ The forthcoming new Killjoys comics about Mike Milligram?
oh boy many thoughts but i am bad at articulation
i think that its really cool that gerard has the chance to revisit his original idea for Mike. and i think that mike was his earliest concept for the ‘red hair rebel dude’ so that's cool.
also i feel like Mike really falls into Gerard’s superhero interests, way more than Party Poison does. Tho i do understand why his character was scrapped, he didn't fit in with the creative process of the Danger Days mvs
i really love the pink in his original designs so that's cool
i have dumb gay syndrome, so i dont particularly feel like he’s cis. (i think the fandom saying ‘no cishets in National Anthem’ was kinda :/ bc like...straight trans ppl exists)
I’m really interested in the old Red and Blue and if they arent in love and dont get a happy ending I'm going to knock on Gerard’s door and give them a talking to.
I really dig the ‘existensial crisis punk’ vibes from mike. I'm totally in love with it
I am living for Kyle. Chad Kobra Kid. <33 yes.
i want Kyle’s pants like those are some cool pants
also...we can see mike’s back here....if Gerard doesn't puts him in a crop top im going to be mad and just draw with him a crop top bc reasons
this is me being dumb ig i didnt say anyhting important or revolutionary its me just info dumping
Also my most important point: MIKE IS MEXICAN WHICH IS REALLY AWESOME BC IM TIRED OF GERARD DRY-AS-FUCK WHITE BOYS(read: val velocity ahaha) It bothered me in the comics that the only killjoys that were Hispanic were Vaya and Vamos because California has a very large Hispanic population and Gerard just fucking ignored that which was not cool.
as a Hispanic reader of his comics, its rad and I dont think this fact is talked about enough.
thank you for coming to my shitty infodump

Exo’s DO MV hairstyle rating: a comprehensive list
What is Love, 2012.
Probably the longuest DO’s hair ever been. Surprisingly, I don’t mind it. For some reason, the demarcation between the super long and super short hairs isn’t that stark. I like that. It looks super dated, tho.
Final rating: 5/10 KS
History, 2012.
A different version of the previous hairstyle but leaving the waves aside. I like it because it seems more achievable in his (probably) pin straight hair. Looks soft and fluffy :D
Final rating: 6/10 KS
Mama, 2012
Eh, no. He looks like a fluffy rhyno. What are those spikes on the sideburns? I bet all that fringe hair without gel to hold it flings straight into his eyes.
Final rating: 2/10 KS
Wolf, 2013
Let’s agree that everybody looked horrendous in Wolf. Like ma boy here who could be strutting the best catwalks in Syberia but the moment he stopped walking he’d freeze to death because he’s not wearing a coat. He looks like a fluffy mushroom and I wouldn’t eat one of those.
Final rating: 0/10 KS (Shame)
Growl, 2013
This must have been the “wildest” color KS’s ever wore, right? I don’t really know about this one. I can appreciate the attempt to change the color, as it’s very obvious he’s not one to experiment much with that sort of stuff. So A for effort. Now, that fringe is all messed up. When his hair falls down naturally without being gelled up he probably has strands sticking out in different directions and all different lengths.
Also, the more I stare at this picture, the more I can sense Uncanny Valley creeping from my toes up and I don’t like that.
Final rating: 3/10 KS
Miracles in December, 2013
Here KS has what in my language is called a bowl cut. I don’t even know if that’s the term in English and I don’t really feel like looking it up.
Either way, from what I’ve seen in the Korean media I’ve had access to is that this hairstyle seems to be super common among teens and young adults. That surprised me because where I am it’s a hairstyle reserved to little kids.
I understand the appeal, tho. He looks soft and cuddly despite having been ghosted. He’s not menacing (because you can’t see his brows). Makes you want to give him hot cocoa and bundle him up inside a big, soft, fluffy white blanket.
Final Rating: 8/10 KS
Overdose, 2014
So baaaad... I mean so gooooooooood.
I really like this one. It’s longer, but it’s longer in an unniform manner. Also, this looks like he’s woken up in the morning with each strand of hair in a different possition. He’s then washed his face and making sure he’s wetting his hair as well. He’s us’ed a comb to make a very precise parting but then hasn’t combed through the rest of the hair, so now that’s getting dry, all the strands are starting to stick up again.
That’s very relatable.
Final rating: 8/10 KS
Call me Baby, 2015
This is one of KS’s best looks and I will die on this hill.
It’s rather short. Blunt. Structured. Has a little flair but the flair is not too long that it sticks into his eyes. The color is natural and dark but has subtle golden and redish highlights. Looks very effortless. NOICE.
Also, filled in, strong eyebrows.
Final rating: 9.5/10 KS (Because there’s always room for improvement)
Love me Right, 2015
Ohh, yes. This is the second main contender to the first position, Again, to me this looks effortless, which is exactly the type of lifestyle I can see KS having. Chill, easy, no fuss, manageable. I woke up like this and I think I last brushed my hair two days ago. A natural man.
I love the styling too.
Bonus Chanyeol happily vibing in the brackground.
Final rating: 9,5/10 KS
Sing for you, 2015
KS is barely visible in this MV. You know he’s there; you can feel him looming ominously around the borders of every scene. You can hear his voice. But you can’t really see him. The natural darkness of a B&W video shot in a supposed snowstorm grants a shadow for him to disguise himself into.
That’s the reason why I’ve had to take those screenshots directly on the mv and why we can barely see his hair. But we can imagine. Looks shot and functional. Not so short and functional as it’s military counterpart. Seems like it would be nice to stroke it. It’s not flashy or attention grabbing. Discreet, but with a little room to play, represented as the spikiness of the fringe area.
Imma give this one a lower rating because I feel there’s another hairstyle that unites all those characteristics and that both KS and I like better.
Final rating: 8/10 KS
Lucky one, 2016
This is just a shorter version of the Sing for you supposed hairstyle. It’s alright. Although it’s a little bit lazy, I feel it fits the aesthetic of the video quite well. Clean and neat. I like how his perplexed expression during the beginning of this mirrors my own façade so well every time I rewatch this MV.
Final rating: 7/10 KS
Monster, 2016
The styling of the hair may be the exact same as in Lucky One, but I don’t really care. My eyes dart directly to the bruise on his cheeks and the scar on his eyebrow. The holes and burns on his clothes. There’s something really special in a rugged man for me.
Final rating: 8.5/10 KS
Lotto, 2016
This is a problem, because there’s two main stylings of which I hate the first one and really like the second one. In the first one, they obviously wanted him to look like he actually jumps into the cages with the roosters and physically trains them on fight. The second one looks pretty standard, soft and floofy. It’s shiny too and it looks healthy. Also I like the pirate like clothes styling here.
I’m conflicted.
Final rating: 4/10 KS
Dancing King, 2016
He doesn’t have a lot of screen time in this MV. Most of the time, he’s either on rehearsals or performing. He wears a lot of caps. I never really understand the purpose of a cap if you’re not out in the sun (or scaping fans and papparazzi). Seems easy to knock off accidentally, a gust of wind could suddenly come by and snatch it off your head. You are going to make it all sweaty because all that dancing and then you’re gonna have to stick it into the washing machine. Can you put a cap on the washing machine? Does it lose its shape or smth?
I digress. The cap is, despite all the previous reticence, one of the few accessories he seems to wear irl. So Imma going to give him a good rating for realism and for giving us a little more BTS content.
Final rating: 7/10 KS
Coming over, 2016
It was impossible to find still of the video but he wore the same styling as in this card, We have to set things straight. 2016 was a hell of a year. They released six different MVs, one of them a collaboration and one of them in japanese. There’s just not enough time for drastic hair changes. Hair doesn’t grow that fast. And it’s easier to leave the more lowkey members in a simple style so you have more time for the not that lowkey members. I get it. Imma a bit bored but I get it.
Final rating: 6.5/10 KS
Kokobop, 2017
Yeeeeees, the change we’d all been waiting for. Aaaaand I hate it. I dislike that his hair matches his jacket. I dislike the fact that even his eyebrows look color coordinated. If it wasn’t for the blue shirt, he’d look as if he had been passed through a sepia filter. Not into it.
Final rating: 3.5/10 KS.
Power, 2017
I love this whole look. Almost everybody’s looks, in fact. It seems like it was a very fun video shooting. We hadn’t seen a KS smile since love me right. He looks so young and playful, so boyish.
There’s not much to say about the hair. It’s all carelessly hidden under a crownless cap? and some other accessories, but we can appreciate he’s gone back to his natural color. Praise the stylist noonas.
Final rating: 7.5/10
Universe, 2017
Ahhh, my white whale in the shape of a head. You were short and fleeting, but at least there’s a MV and a whole film to remember you.
I love bald KS. I definitely don’t appreciate Eggsoo, but what’s not to love about a shaved head? Especially, his bald head. He’s extremelly symmetric and looks so uniform all around. It probably feels like a stroking a very dense but soft brush. He’s said himself he like this hairstyle. It’s strong. Durable. Reliable. Pragmatic. Still, soft, aesthetically pleasing. All KS really is.
I also love the lighting and the clothe styling in this MV, it’s like a honey and caramel wet dream.
Final rating: 9,5/10 KS
Electric Kiss, 2018
There’s not much to say about this either because it’s not easily visible. Looke like he has his sides shaven. The top is definitely longer but not a lot. Unceremoniously passes.
Final rating: 6/10 KS
Tempo, 2018
I think he looks specially good in tempo. Boyish but not too much. Longer hair, which is a change. The worst part is that he doesn’t have a lot of parts and even less screen time. I love how his lipstick matches the background.
Final rating: 7.5/10 KS
Love Shot, 2018
I love this. Men driving are a kink for me. Black hair, yes. Aviator jacket, yes. Strands of hair loosely framing your face, yes. You usual stoic expression, yes.
Final rating: 7.5/10
His final MV pre-enlistment was a success. Let’s hope for more good looks when he returns.

𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝟎𝟎𝟑: 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡'𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬
sophie’s thoughts on wish’s title tracks.
like ooh-ahh: in sophie’s opinion, it was the perfect debut song. it highlighted exactly the type of vibe wish wants to give off as a group and it fit their concept in the best way possible. looking back, she thinks it was very tongue in cheek for them to have the mv set in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, almost as if wish was the one good thing in the middle of a bunch of bad things? she looks back on it very lovingly.
cheer up: as good of a debut as like ooh-ahh was, cheer up was definitely The song that brought wish to level of attention they carry until now. without cheer up it was likely they wouldn’t have gotten as famous as they are now. sophie thinks the music video is fun and it’s obviously one of her favorite for the sole fact that she got attention for her shy shy shy. sophie thought people exaggerated a little bit but she doesn’t mind doing it whenever anyone asks, even now.
dream girls: it’s not a song she goes back to a lot, especially because she thinks she looked particularly baby in it. she was still sixteen when wish shot that music video so that’s not really surprising. if you asked her to dance this on the spot, sophie sure would struggle remembering the choreography
very very very: she can’t listen to it without it being stuck in her head for the rest of the week. she does understand the hype though, as it does exactly what a pop song must do – it sticks.
tt: another iconic wish song. sophie loves that for the second year bc had them do a type of halloween concept. she does wish they had gotten the chance of doing live stages wearing the costumes of the music video, more live shows that were aligned with that halloween concept.
knock knock: honestly, following tt sophie thought knock knock was a bit of a let down. she knows it’s something a lot of fans also agree. it’s not a bad song and it’s not one sophie hates, it’s just another that she cares very little for.
signal: a concept where they have powers? sophie was so excited she didn’t care about how weird sounding signal is. she knows the song is very different from anything wish has released but shooting the music video was a lot of fun. unpopular opinion but she loves the part where they look like aliens.
likey: it’s her absolute favorite wish comeback until now. she loved the song at first listen especially because it sounds a bit more laid back if compared to other things they’ve released but it’s still super upbeat and has the wish vibe. the experience of shooting the mv was very different from everything else they’ve done and it’s not as much of a glamorous mv like others they did afterwards but there’s something about how “simple” it is that is super charming to sophie.
heart shaker: it’s written off as another of wish’s end of the year comebacks that don’t count for much. it’s not one she thinks about often and another choreography she most likely has forgotten by now.
what is love?: it’s one of her least favorite if only because she thought it was too similar to heart shaker. she knows it’s a similarity that people have noticed and it was something that kind of bothered her? sophie loves the mv and thinks it’s a very fun concept but what is love? is not a song she goes back to.
dance the night away: wish releasing a summer concept? it was such a crazy thing to her that she doesn’t even realize that song exists sometimes. she definitely remembers shooting it though and thought it was very fun to shoot a music video on the beach even with the wind and the sand making it a bit hard for them to dance.
yes or yes: another halloween type of concept and sophie loves it. until feel special was released it was her second favorite. probably the only thing that annoyed her about it was that it was the first time their choreography got properly difficult. it’s a very demanding choreography and it left them super tired but she also knows the fans enjoy it, so.
the best thing i ever did: it does its job as a kind of christmas comeback, doesn’t it? sophie didn’t care for it at first and certainly doesn’t care for it until now.
fancy: sophie knew that with the girls growing up and all of them already being truly grown ups now that sooyeon’s turned 20, that wish’s “cuter” concepts wouldn’t work for them anymore. or at the very least that bc believes that it’s time for them to go on a slightly more mature side without letting go of that wish brightness. she thinks fancy works as a perfect transition song. she was surprised listening to it the first time as well as learning the choreography, on a good way, and she knows the fans were as well.
whatta man: she loves the sample in it but between fancy and feel special, sophie didn’t think much of the song.
feel special: it’s her third favorite comeback so far. she knows it’s one of the worst charts for wish, peaking at #9, but sophie doesn’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. she checked their album sales and knows they still sold as much as they did for other eras and maybe even more, so she doesn’t understand why bc would be too worried. sophie loved the outfits, loved the concept, loved that, for once, the lyrics can be more in reference of friendships than romantic relationships.

MILGRAM Best Song Tournament, Round 1, Match 2 BRING IT ON vs. AFTER PAIN
Propaganda for AFTER PAIN:
"so here is why people should vote for AFTER PAIN !!"
Muu's vocals. Need I say more?
The bridge to it is absolutely wonderfully done, the way she softens her vocals to an almost creepy point is incredible
during the final chorus you can hear the desperation in her voice and it’s very well portrayed
The coloring in this music video were phenomenal
The overlapping vocals at the end of the song just have a really really nice effect
Its just a pure banger
In some parts of the song there’s the sound of a clock ticking in the background used as a sort of beatline… GENIUS??
Its just a banger
even with what we found out about Muu in her second trial, After Pain on its own portrayed bullying in a very realisitc and artistic way (from someone who deals with it regularly)
---
"After pain propoganda: She just girlbossed too close to the sun and happened to be holding a knife at the time"
---
"Gosh everything about After Pain... How can you NOT like it? It's literally such a good song and is very singable. The instrumentation is absolutely amazing and I've listened to it on loop so much."
#milgram#milgramtournament#fuuta kajiyama#muu kusunoki#(ooc: im voting for bring it on because i love his dumb stupid walk cycle. and also his evil little laugh at the beginning)

“Enough” by SF9
I first heard SF9 a few years ago. They were performing at KConNY and I was supposed to be going with a friend (who cancelled right before we were going to buy the tickets, thus I bought all three versions of SEVENTEEN’s Al1 album instead). While preparing for the concert, I began to buy a few songs by artists who were said to be performing, including SF9. I loved their sound, but I’m not really a member of the fandom. I prefer to support them from afar instead.
When I watched the MV for their newest comeback, I was struck with a sense of nostalgia similar to how I felt when watching Seven O’clock’s MV for “Get Away” (except I liked SF9′s) and though it’d be great to do a review.
Overall Sound
Talk about a bop! Something about this sounded a little nostalgic, but they also sounded fresh and new. It’s something you don’t get tired of, even though the words don’t quite feel different throughout the song. It started and ended nicely and the dance break was amazing. I’ve never been so in love with the music used during a dance break.
MV/Lyrics
The MV is where I get the nostalgia from. The lighting, lack of other people, use of mirrors...I kinda felt like I was watching “Ring Ding Dong” by SHINee. The hair of most of the members didn’t help, either. However, I feel like using a lot of mirrors was perfect considering the song’s lyrics. The song itself is them telling the listener that they (the listener) are already pretty enough and don’t need makeup. They repeatedly say “Don’t be pretty” to say, “Hey, that’s enough.” The lyrics are sweet, although a bit possessive, and cover a topic of positivity while still keeping a dark theme for the boys/mv. It all flows together nicely.
Choreography
What I love about this choreography is the balance between “flashy” and “synchronized.” Yeah, they have moments where they’re all together, which is good for a chorus. Still, they have other moments where they frame the member who sings. There’s the scene where they all lay down and two members literally pull one up while one of the two moves to lay down. While they’re simply things, they really leave an impression and do good to keep your attention and stand out.
I’d listen to this song if I was...
If a song sounds like this, it’s a “before work” song. It’s a song I listen to when I need to get pumped up. This is especially true on days when I’m feeling a bit down and out. I may not feel like I’m at 100% and I need a little positivity while also getting psyched to go clock in and see my friends. If a song like this can’t hype me up, my friends at work certainly won’t be able to.
You might like this song if you like...
Honestly, it makes me think heavily of Monsta X. The sound, the lyrics, the concept. The music video just isn’t as up there as Monsta X. The specific ones I’d list would be “Hero” and “Jealousy.” The former is a great song to get hyped up with. “Jealousy,” however, fits the theme while also having that beautiful sound to it. Out of all songs, I’d say “Jealousy” and “Enough” are a match made in heaven.
If I had to pick another song, it’d be “Knock” by KNK. Both give me that retro vibe that reminds me a bit of an early BEAST MV (like “Say No”). Not Highlight - as they’re more cheerful. I’m saying BEAST like back when they were at Cube.
However, overall their sound is something that’s hard to compare to others. While I may connect other groups to Monsta X, I can’t necessarily connect other groups to SF9. Whether that’s good or bad remains to be seen.

TRACIE’S TOP 20 KPOP 'HITS’ OF 2017
I have been saying that I would make this list for a few weeks now. I am FINALLY DOING IT!
I have a very weird music taste. You’ll probably see a lot of “top kpop lists” out there analyze songs for a number of reasons. Let me tell you now, I just go by what I like, not by musical compostion and production -- and I have a very different taste.
That being said, all of these songs are 'title’ songs - AKA, they have a music video tied with them. I MAY DO A SEPARATE LIST OF OTHER FAVORITE KPOP SONGS IN 2017 THAT DON’T HAVE MVs, BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF GREAT SONGS.
I MADE A PLAYLIST IN ORDER OF MY TOP 20, SO YOU CAN LISTEN ALONG AS YOU READ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVaV7AwqBWg&list=PL-fUHABWqfXEH52Or6oDGQSowuri2tAFT
20) Wanna One - Energetic
"You make me feel so high, I’m so crazy...” This song...gives me these... happy, blissful feelings. I can’t fully describe how this song makes me feel, but I love it. I can see why Wanna One already has such a dedicated fanbase, everything they’ve put out so far has been amazing. It TRULY IS a very “energetic” song - it puts me in a good mood.
19) GFRIEND - Fingertip
I always get the vibes of older kpop music when I listen to this song (at least, the chorus reminds me of that). Old kpop has this unique, techno-EDM-esque sound that I am really bad at describing, but GFRIEND brings out the best of it in this song. And they add their own flavor to it.
18) HyunA - Babe
“I am just 26, 26, 26~” HyunA has always had this cool, sexy, unique style - but not a lot of her music really resonated with me. Then I heard BABE. Catchy, cool beats and I love to sing along. I love her mix of rapping and singing.
17) Never Ever - GOT7
I unfortunately got into GOT7 late in the game - this is one of the first songs I heard by them. And this song is just so good, amazing. My GOT7 babies always have amazing songs. They’re now in my top 3 favorite kpop groups.
16) Blackpink - As if its your last
While this isn’t one of my favorite Blackpink songs, it is my favorite Blackpink MV. I love the vibrance, colors, outfits, and style. This song still is amazing, too. The beginning is so catchy - I LOVE IT.
15) Girl’s Day - I’ll be Yours
“You want me? I’ll be yours” I was considering putting this higher up on this list. I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. I like the jazzy, but modern concept. I saw a lot of people criticizing this song, but I can’t understand?? I think I just have really different taste from others... I like the jazzy mix in this song...
14) Red Velvet - Peek-A-Boo
Look, everyone has been saying that Red Flavor is Red Velvet’s hit song of the year. Am I the only one who just loves Peek a Boo? Don’t get me wrong, Red Flavor has grown on me a lot and I’ve grown to love the song. But Peek a Boo has a different, cool sound that I appreciate a whole lot more than Red Velvet’s typical up-beat bops.
13) Winner - Really Really
Winner has won the hearts of SO many this year - I’ve been seeing many kpop fans say this is one of their top songs of the year. This really is a great bop, and it makes realize I need to get into Winner more in 2018. Also the MV with all the different girls dancing is cool, haha.
12) NCT 127 - Limitless
"Oh baby, it’s you -” OK Y’ALL - I need to talk a bit about Limitless (also yes the Japanese version has the better MV). If you all don’t know, NCT is one of the groups that really drew me into kpop in 2016. WHY IS THAT? Because, again, I HAVE A UNIQUE TASTE IN MUSIC and I truly feel NCT always embodies the epitomy of my music taste. This song is the prime example of that. THIS SONG CAME OUT ON JANUARY 4th. I WAS STILL UNSURE HOW DEEP I WAS GETTING INTO KPOP. THIS SONG HELPED ME GO FULL KPOP STAN. Thank you, NCT. This is why I heavily support and stan NCT.
11) GOT7 - Teenager
“I can do anything if you tell me good boy...” Because this song has a performance MV, I’m adding it in here even though it’s not the “title” track of 7for7. THIS SONG IS SO COOL - I LOVE THAT THE RAPPING IS THE CHORUS AND THE SINGING IS THE VERSES. It is different from a lot of other songs. I like the instrumental sound in the background to this song. One of my favorite GOT7 songs of the year. Side note, I didn’t realize there was a faint “moaning” in the beginning of this song until I read YT comments about it. Now I can’t un-hear.
10) Don’t Recall - KARD
Look, a lot of people have their crticisms of KARD. Which to some degree, I can understand. They are still a very new group, but they have a more mature sound that I really like. They don’t have overly upbeat music. This song is one of my favorites by them. I love KARD so much and can’t wait to see them flourish.
9) BTS - Spring Day
It might be sacrelige for me, being an ARMY, to not have this on my top 5. If you’ve not learned anything from this list, I’m not the biggest fan of ballads. However, BTS is always an exception to that. And Spring Day is arguably one of the best songs they’ve ever produced. I mean that. This song has a lot of undertones that could lead it to have a deeper meaning than just the hardships of distance in friends. But even on the surface, this song has a really strong message, visuals, and it is most definitely the best kpop MV this year - it has even won awards for being the best MV.
8) Twice - Knock Knock
TWICE is one of the groups that I heard in 2016 when I was first getting into kpop, and at the time it was very hard for me to like their music. During my intro to kpop, I didn’t like overly cute concepts. But I’ve become quite attached to TWICE this year (they’re now my second fave girl group after Blackpink), and this happens to be one of my favorite songs by them.
7) Monsta X - Dramarama
Ohhh my gosh, can I just say how PROUD I am of Monsta X this year?! They released so much great music, but never got the recognition they deserved. Dramarama, released toward the end of this year, FINALLY GOT MONSTA X THEIR FIRST WIN. AND I AM SO HAPPY. This song has SUCH A COOL CONCEPT. IT’S DAMN CATCHY AND UNIQUE AND COOL - THE EXACT THINGS THAT I LOOK FOR IN A KPOP SONG. I LOVE BEING A MONBEBE AND I LOVE MONSTA X.
6) Seventeen - Trauma
Shit, Seventeen man. I became a huge fan of Seventeen in the later half of 2017, not long after I saw them at KCON. At first, Seventeen had a lot of cute concepts (which are very hard for me to get into) and my favorite song by them was Highlight. But then they started releasing more ‘mature’ concepts. This song is another song that is the epitome of the music I like and IT CAME OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY. Hiphop with a good beat, good flow. This song has SUCH A GOOD FLOW. I NOW FULLY STAN THE SEVENTEEN HIPHOP UNIT. Also in 2018 I’m becoming full Carat. I LOVE SEVENTEEN.
5) Sunmi - Gashina
Gashina is another one of those songs that has hit the top of many people’s ‘2017 Kpop Lists’. And for good reason. Sunmi killed it with this beat, this dance, this singing. This is a kpop song that will be legendary - will be one of the top songs for years to come. Also I just love the lyrics and concept of this song - and her confidence in the MV. This is like my life anthem right here.
4) BTS - Not Today
Ah yes, Not Today. Another song that came out wayyy early this year and is one of the best songs of 2017. I remember hearing this song live at the Wings Tour in Anaheim, it was BTS’ opening song. It blew me away then. It also blew me away when they first released it in February.
TBH, this song is one of the first songs I introduce people who are new to kpop. It’s a great “intro to kpop” song. There is SO much more I could say about Not Today, but it has all already been said - BTS are kings of my life. The concept of this song was the perfect introduction for BTS’ most successful year. This song is perfection.
3) EXO - Ko Ko Bop
MY EXO BABIES. EXO EXO EXO. This song. Is. FOREVER MY SUMMER JAM. OK, now let’s talk about it.
Screw anyone who doesn’t like this concept, because I LOVE THE REGGAE BEAT IN THIS SONG SO MUCH. I LOVE THAT EXO EXPLORES NEW CONCEPTS AND I LOVE THAT THIS SONG IS SUCH A DIFFERENT SOUND FROM MUCH OF THEIR OTHER MUSIC. The mix of reggae vibes with electronic beat is SO COOL. I will forever love this song and this era of EXO. I don’t care what anyone says. Ko Ko Bop is such a damn cool song. I even got temporary tattoos of their ‘Bird of Paradise’ EXO logo. Some parts of the MV are a little weird, but overall I love it.
2) BTS - MIC Drop Remix
It is getting harder and harder to write about my favorite songs of the year. I almost feel bad for putting this song on here and not DNA. But honestly, if I had to pick a song that more fits my style - it is MIC Drop. I am so proud that BTS was able to collaborate with Aoki and Desiigner. While Not Today was the perfect intro to 2017 for BTS, MIC Drop is the perfect exit to 2017 for BTS. I was so obsessed with the original version of this song when it released that I learned the entire song in Korean. And learned the dance. As I’ve stated before, I love the hiphop aspect of kpop - and Bangtan originally started as a ‘hiphop’ concept and I love that they’ve kept going with that hiphop vibe. So with that, I will say that MIC Drop is a killer song. It will forever slay my life.
1) NCT 127 - Cherry Bomb
“I’m the biggest hit, I’m the biggest hit on this stage.” Da-da-DUM! Here you have it, my #1 song of the year. I feel like I might be one of the only people who has this song as their #1 kpop song of 2017. But why? Why do I love Cherry Bomb so much?
As I’ve stated many a-time before, NCT is one of the groups that propelled me into kpop because of their unique and experimental concepts. They don’t release your ‘typical’ kpop songs, they experiment with weird electronic sounds and effects. Individuals who are overly critical of music might not like the loud, repetitive lyrics in Cherry Bomb, but I think that’s what makes it stand out above other kpop music. There is nothing wrong with coming out with a catchy, repetitive beat that will have you singing and dancing for hours.
The song begins with a weird “ppallippalli pihae Right” that has a mix of vocals over each other that creates this cool, unique sound that fits so well with the song. Then incomes the harsh, electronic sound in the background. It brings out the “neo-culture” that NCT stands for.
Continuing on with other aspects of this song, the coreo is SPOT. ON. (only one part I don’t like). The vocals and rapping are incredible (Mark’s rap in this song is his best ever, another rap that I learned this year). The outfits and hairstyles are damn cool. I love pink, so ofc I love this concept.
I remember when I saw the teasers for Cherry Bomb back in late May. I didn’t understand...but I was so interested. Normally, kpop teasers don’t do much for me - but these teasers had me so intrigued. I don’t stay up for every kpop MV that releases, but I did stay up for Cherry Bomb. And I was immediately hooked. I know it took a while for this song to grow on some, but not for me. I was immediately hooked.
And finally, I had the amazing opportunity to see Cherry Bomb performed live at KCON. And it was the most amazing thing ever. I was the happiest girl alive in that moment. Seeing one of your favorite songs performed live is...something else. I will be a NCTzen forever, I hope SM takes good care of my boys. I CANNOT WAIT to see what NCT has in store for 2018.
Runner up songs that almost made it to the list: DNA by BTS, Likey by TWICE, BLING BLING by iKON, Excuse Me by AOA, Black Suit by Super Junior, Burn it Up by Wanna One, Power by EXO

Twice - Someone Like Me
Time for my review of the album. On the overall this album was not my favorite but it was not my least favorite! (I didn’t really like Twicecoaster that much, though TT and Next Page are really good and I like listening to Knock Knock because I love the aesthetic of the MV, and I can’t choose my favorite between The Story Begins and Page Two)
1. Signal
To be honest, I’m always scared when JYP announces he will produce a song. There are a lot of his songs that I don’t like. But Signal is okay, it took me 4 listens to actually appreciate the song. But there are a few parts of the song that always make me listen to it again. Mostly the chorus I like and this 찌릿, it kills me every time. This morning when I woke up I started singing the song so it’s a good sign, it means I like the song.
And to talk about these ONCEs that are hating on them right now, I simply don’t understand. It’s extremely immature and disrespectful to their biases, if you don’t like the song, appreciate the fact that they work hard for you. It’s impossible to make a song that will please everybody at the same time, we all have different tastes.
2. Three Time a Day
This song is so my style. I love the style, I love the instrumental, I love the vibe and girls’ voice fit well with the song. I don’t have much more to say about this song, though I had time to listen to this album a few times while I painted yesterday afternoon and every time this song came up I would stop painting just to feel the vibe of the song.
3. Only You
During the spoiler video, I told myself that I would not like this song. I was right at first but then completely wrong. Nayeon and Jihyo saved this song for me, I love their parts so much, it’s so good. The more I listen to it the more I like it now, though I still have a hard time liking the beginning of the song.
4. Hold Me Tight
This song is the opposite of Only You for me. I liked it at first but now, not so much. It’s a cute song though, there are still parts of it that I like, mostly Nayeon’s parts but I’m very biased, she’s my bias for Christ sake♥! Turns out it’s a song I get tired of very quickly. Well, it’s my loss, I can’t love every song every time!
5. Eye Eye Eyes
Chaeyoung and Jihyo’s song! The one I was waiting for the most. I’m not that into the instrumental, but I still love it. And the girls did well with the lyrics. Must be hard to sing this song though! They all did great. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT MINA’S VOICE IN IT!!! I feel like I’m in heaven every time I hear her!
There’s just this sound in second 16-17, it sounds like the beginning of my phone ringtone so I get a jump scare every time it comes up.
6. Someone Like Me
This one is my favorite. I listened to it so many times last night. I love it so much. Usually their calm songs are enjoyable but they are not my favorite at all. But there’s something about this one, damn. I would really love an MV with this song. For once I would love a music video for a calm song by Twice. I would actually see an MV in the same style, kind of, as BlackPink’s Stay.
Overall
I liked this album, I will definitely buy it. It was not the kind of music I was expecting though. I would love to see something more badass and less cutesy from the girls in the next album. Or something more like Like Ooh Ahh. But if they stay on the cute side next time, I will still be okay with it. I am proud of the girls, they did amazing and I hope they will do great during their Japanese promotion.
But what I will remember the most about this album is Mina’s beautiful and unique voice. She sounds too good for my ears!
Now it’s bias short fangirling time: Oh my God, Nayeon is so damn beautiful. I die every time she appears in the music video and every time she freaking sings in the album. She is so good! And she’s so cute when she’s pouts, her grumpy face is to die for. And my damn, she is so damn beautiful with this long red hair, goddammit.♥ Last time I bought their album I got Nayeon’s photocard. I was literally dead for a week after. I was so happy. I hope I will get her photocard again!!! (if I don’t, it’s okay, I love them all)

Favorite thing about your bias? He’s such a cutie, a nerd, and like I said, a ray of sunshine! At the same time, though, he’s bursting with talent and charisma. But what I love MOST about him is how much he cares for his other members. He’s a great leader and I don’t think any of the other members could be as amazing of a leader as him. He fits the job way too well. He knows how to get them all....in sync? Knows how to get them together and be serious, and also knows how to lead this group of goofballs ;D He cares so much for them, even though they’re teasing him 24/7. He supports them so much bckjvblbv seriously such a great person to look up to!!

Who do you end up liking more in groups; Leaders, Maknaes, mood makers, vocal, rap, “mom”, “dad”, English speaker, drummer, guitarist, pianist? I don’t really go for a specific type. It all just depends on personality for me
If your bias got a girlfriend/boyfriend how would you feel? I wouldn’t mind, I’d be happy for him!! ♡
How would you feel if your bias came out gay/lesbian/bisexual/etc.? I would 110% support it!!

Do you prefer saying “Oppa” or being called “Noona”? I’ve never said or called anyone those, neither have I been called those sooo
Is it cuter when KPop Idols know your language or don’t know it and try to speak it? I love it when they try their hardest for fans to speak English it’s the thought that counts. I think it’s adorable!!
