THAT SEASON FINALE!
light, where to begin, a disjointed ramble of things I observed:
Dovie’andi se tovya sagain! - Mat said the words, he said the words!
And he made his own ashandarei! I hope he gets the raven-inlaid one though because I’m sure no one wants him running around with that dagger
And I know he’s going to get a massive S3 glow-up because he sees himself as MORE, now. Yay Mat!
RAND exploding the shit out of the Seanchan including Turak; nice way around his general lack of swordtraining which I’m sure will be remedied
Once the Heron, to set his path!
The interplay between Rand (and Lews Therin before him), Lanfear, Ishamael - they were besties in the Age of Legends, lmao!
I had expected the intro to be a high society polyam party they were attending, not the Sealing of Ishamael, 🤭
The Warder bond was beautiful, flowing, intimate, just what I imagined when reading these books some 25 years ago
I knew Moiraine was gonna say Lan was her better!
I’m so glad they’re back together though, legendary qpp
Nice to see the S1 intro sequence with the gorgeously woven Aes Sedai tapestry
I was a bit sad Nynaeve didn’t heal Elayne OR Rand but she DID swear to make Seta’s mother curse the first kiss her father ever gave her and THAT was cool
Hopper, my beloved! 😩 I would be chopping Whitecloaks too!
It was so satisfying to see Perrin obey his wolfly instincts already!
Elayne being the one to heal Rand’s wound was an interesting choice, and you can tell he was dazzled by her!
Book lines, book lines, book lines making me have conniptions every time one was uttered
“From birth to death I serve the Blood.”
UNO I KNEW YOU WERE COMING YA SHEEP-GUTTED MILK DRINKER
“For the Light, and Shinowa!” still gave me chills even without an expanded story behind it for Ingtar
Egwene al’Vere. I hope she earns a title of “the Unbroken” someday. Remember, Nynaeve even said that about her when Egwene was captured by Whitecloaks in S1!
Egwene, spitting out the damane gag and refusing to rain down fire on innocents, ah my girl, that’s that Two Rivers steel
Egwene, collaring Renna and choking her to death, being stronger than Renna, being able to withstand the pain of that because that’s exactly what Renna taught her
Egwene later, with that amazing shield against Ishamael to protect her friends!
Lanfear pushing Lan and Moiraine out of the ocean Waygate was very unexpected but totally within Lanfear’s lane, just to keep Moiraine away from Rand
Lanfear working to sell the Seals to Bayle Domon, which was so lmao also, and it really enhanced her utter shock when she entered the room later with the Seals all broken.
M O G H E D I E N 🕷️
She is perfectly creepy, perfect in every way. I can’t wait to see her tear shit up, or to see how she will be used in S3 and beyond
Never expected her to cage Lanfear in her webs, either, dang. Lillen Moiral wasn’t near so strong as Mierin. But we know some things are just Talents, and Moghedien is better in Tel’aran’rhiod than Lanfear
Did you notice Rand’s wound swirling with evil bits throughout the healed part? Really cool effect if you catch it
Aviendha, Bain, and Chiad showing they can fight just as well in close quarters in a city as in the Three-Fold Land; and then later acknowledging Rand as Car’a’carn
Though I’d hoped we’d get some good old He Who Comes With The Dawn in here too
Moiraine’s outstanding torpedo weaves that fucked up the Seanchan boats! And she understands the stakes - if the Dragon is gentled, or harmed, or captured, everyone’s life is in danger and that includes her and Lan
Anyhow fuck the Seanchan
Did it look like Suroth got blown up too? Does that mean she’s dead? I guess we’ll see who gathers in the scattered remnants of the Hailene!
The first “I’m not Lews Therin” from Rand
Mat taking a moment to mention Rand’s “shit hair” to Perrin while they were in the mix, lmao
That shadow ashandarei is really scary, it is a laser knife (lightsaber?) on a stick
I can’t wait for Perrin and Hopper to meet again in the Wolfdream
Speaking of which, I think Perrin’s eyes are permanently golden now
I cried at the coming of the Heroes of the Horn, I’m sure many of you did too 😭
Cool Hero fighting effects, I liked those
BIRGITTE SILVERBOW MY LOVELY
I figured Min’s vision of Mat “killing” Rand would be something like this, an accident, not an intentional thing
His blood on the rocks of Shayol Ghul…
AL’LAN MANDRAGORAN, the Uncrowned King, Sworn to the Flame, bonded again, fighting as he was meant to, just slicing through armies, snatching arrows out of the air and stabbing people with them, chef’s kiss
I wonder if Nynaeve’s “failures” and inability to channel at these vital moments will give her the drive to break her block
Ishamael’s channeling at the end was really impressive, a testament to how much more he knows than Rand
I hope that’s not the last we see of Fares Fares, he was remarkable as Ishamael and a truly enjoyable villain
And since they didn’t have the Dragon banner of Lews Therin Telamon found with the Horn like in the books, Moiraine saw to it that he was heralded with literal fire
This I can imagine many people seeing from far away, and of course rumor travels further
The Falmen sure seem to appreciate it and of course the Seanchan are gone for now
Lanfear asking the LIGHT to protect Rand at the end is something interesting and NOT LOST ON ME
I REALLY ENJOYED IT and am looking forward to a full rewatch of S1 and S2!
Proclaimed across the sky in fire 🔥🐲

Can you share your name examples? Please!
under a cut in case people feel like guessing or something
putting syllables together and they sound nice: literally almost any fantasy book that doesn't use modern names but like, off the top of my head: Essun from The Broken Earth Trilogy. Sabriel and Lirael from The Old Kingdom Trilogy. Shallan from the Stormlight Archives. The vast majority of women's names in ASOIAF that aren't too close to irl names. No shortage of names in Wheel of Time.
putting syllables together and they sound like arthuriana: Egwene (Wheel of Time) is the big one for me.
Slightly altered irl name: Bunch of names in ASOIAF notably Eddard and Alicent. Really common in actual play (Revvetha is sort of a joke but sort of not; Belizabeth).
Extremely apt character descriptor you know who you are: Kaladin of the Stormlight Archives. As a paladin stan I must stan and the character genuinely is great but like. c'mon man.
Mashup of irl names: Brennan Lee Mulligan does this EXTREMELY often most notably with Raphaniel.
Something meaningful in an irl language: SILAHA is a great example. Idk Dune probably did this.
Something meaningful in an elaborate self-created conlang: welcome to Lord of the Rings, an opportunity for Tolkien to take his conlangs for a test drive.
Something meaningful in a foreign language siri set alarm etc: self-explanatory. look to your left look to your right if no one at the D&D table used an Elvish Translator then it's bc they used the fantasy name generator for a different fantasy race.
IRL names not in common usage: I suppose it's not exclusively but The Locked Tomb does have Palamedes and this is also a Classic D&D Naming Strat.
This is Linda and she fights dragons: Robert Baratheon, whatever the fuck is going on in Dune, when D&D characters are named things like Kristen or Beauregard or Imogen or Ashton. Also obviously true in almost any Earth-set fantasy; I have a taste for like, regency/Napoleonic Wars-set fantasy novels and so people are just named things like Thomas and Catherine and they are worried about Their Place In Society but also they are wizards.
Series of complex and mysterious titles: The Man with the Thistledown Hair from Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (speaking of normal-ass names in fantasy); The Emissary; The Man in Black. Often some kind of eldritch/otherworldly being but like, you could just decide that's your name in a D&D game. no one is stopping you.
Rigid Naming Conventions: offhand my problematic fave The Belgariad has some weird naming conventions (dryads all have names starting with X or, when softened into Tolnedran, Ce' as a prefix; acolytes of Aldur all have Bel- or Pol- prefixes to their names based on gender but the names themselves vary); the weird palindrome names in Stormlight Archives; The Vorkosigan Saga is sci fi and set in a future of our universe so many names are existing ones but the naming convention is often passing down the two grandfather's first names to the eldest son and other such things.
Pun or meme: again, D&D classic; Percival Friedrickstein Von Musel Klossowski De Rolo III, every Crown of Candy PC.
Fantasy name generator already covered. who knows how many people are using it. who knows what data set it uses.
Acronym: I believe this is what Tav is in BG3; This is also I believe where Thedas comes from.
Literally just a noun: Fjord, Keg; The Belgariad has characters who technically are going by codenames bc they are from The Spy Country but practically speaking I cannot actually recall what Silk's actual name is off the top of my head and I've read those books like 5 times and he's a major character. Shadowheart is i guess two nouns but it's the same principle.

Egwene’s scenes from Daes Dae’mar
Egwene has some really interesting scenes in this episode even though it’s only for a few minutes and she says everything without needing words but her line at the end is so brilliant and well delivered.
Her dynamic with Renna is almost like being trapped in an abusive marriage. Last week Renna said some really possessive things like: “You’ll never leave me. Nothing exists for you outside this room.” Then after she beat Egwene and finally got her to pour the water she calls her a good girl (like a pet) and walks out.
Now we see Egwene in full Damane dress from the hair to the golden gag in her mouth and Renna showing her off like a trophy wife but with the threat that if Egwene embarrasses her she’ll regret it. Again with the possessive phrases by praising her power and claiming ownership “every Sul’dam in Falme will see you shine and know that you are mine.” Her cell in the kennels now has a bed, candles and a clothes rack as a reward for good behaviour.
Then later we see Renna trying to win Egwene round to her way of thinking with the weirdly intimate touching when she washes Egwene’s hands and face with a sponge. Renna speaks like she’s explaining something so simple that the Seanchan are heroes that are trying to unite the world for The Last Battle and defeat the Dark One so Egwene doesn’t need to fight her because they’re on the same side. Egwene’s defiance and rage is so palpable the whole way through this episode especially when we see her doing the Two Rivers braid in her hair after she had wore it loose the whole time she was at the white tower, this is her way of reclaiming her identity and knowing she’s not alone.
When she finally speaks it’s in the same soft tone Renna was using and probably the first time she calls the Sul’dam by her name, Renna leans in all hopeful “yes Egwene?” then she delivers the best line “I will kill you.” And then Renna storms out like a spurned lover that thought her manipulation was working.

pulling together some of the s2 images we have so far! there's a LOT of stuff in the two teaser reels, so i'm focusing mostly on the shots from those that i can connect to the new promo images (which are especially helpful since we know what episodes they came from). sorry for the long post, i tried to do a read more but then for everything under the read more the images just displayed one by one instead of 2 or 3 in a row the way i'd formatted them and it looked bad.
first, rand. predicting that some of the first things we'll see from him is dream torment by ishamael (likely the source of the wheel shot) and meeting lanfear while alone and vulnerable:
then he'll go to cairhien and meet up with moiraine and lan, and have his lord arc (and get a fancy outfit):
then duel turak at falme in 1x08 (likely after receiving sword lessons from lan, which could be the Lan Shirtless With Sword shots we have several of):
i think these scenes with moiraine (and lan) are from the early episodes where she still has her s1 outfit and hair:
then she gets a fancy new outfit for cairhien (potentially the crying-in-the-bath scene), which could be where the beach scenes take place - but cairhien is landlocked (though it IS on a river), so maybe she keeps this outfit for the rest of the season and these beach scenes are at falme? i will say that i'm pretty confident the daylight beach scene is the same outfit as the cairhien promo pic, but not confident that the evening beach scene is the same outfit.
on to perrin's plotline. we have several shots (i've just included one) from a scene of his party encountering the seanchan in daytime and being made to kneel. loial is still free here.
loial appears to be getting captured here at night, and there's also shots of perrin's party fighting seanchan at night. the same scene?
we know loial is in seanchan captivity by 2x05, so all the above scenes must happen during or before that episode.
aviendha fights a whitecloak at night, which we've been thinking is the adaptation of the book scene where perrin frees an aiel from a cage (there IS a cage just behind avi here), and thus perrin & co would also be involved in this scene. could be the same nighttime fight scene as above, a three-way fight between perrin & co, whitecloaks, and seanchan? or it could just as easily be a different scene - if so, i'd guess in the second half of the season after loial has been captured and as perrin gets closer to falme.
we do know that the seanchan and whitecloaks will clash in falme, and in a market-y location that looks somewhat similar to the promo pic of perrin and aviendha:
overall, it seems like whitecloaks, seanchan, and aiel will all be heavily involved in perrin's plotline, which is great setup since all those groups are significant parts of his storyline at various points in the future.
from what we know so far, the girls' portion of the white tower plotline seems pretty straightforward and similar to TGH. egwene has novice kitchen duty in 2x01, then later prepares for a journey (with liandrin i'd imagine) and is made damane.
nynaeve takes the accepted test in 2x03 (side note: i'm extremely skeptical that portal stones and the flicker scene will make it and imo they should be cut even though they're cool, so i think the "what might be" episode title is for this episode, referring to the alternate life/lives nynaeve sees in her test, and perhaps rand can still see some alternate lives in his ishamael-tormented dreams). at some point she trains in the sword with warders, probably because she wants to be able to protect herself while being blocked. do we think that brown belt indicates she's an accepted, or is that still a novice outfit and this scene is set before her test?
the picture of elayne could be investigating in a basement while black ajah hunting? i also thought maybe the ways en route to falme, but it doesn't really look like the s1 ways.
mat's storyline is trickier to figure out because we have very limited shots of him so far. we know that in 2x01, he is crying in a room. from descriptions of the scene shown at cons, we know he is imprisoned by liandrin at some point in s2. seems likely enough that the below image is him in captivity, although it's also possible he could be at an inn or something there (feeling guilty for abandoning his friends) and gets captured later in the episode.
the only other images we have of him are these two of him wearing his exact same outfit from season 1 and the crying-in-a-room scene and standing against a generic background:
falme seems the most likely option - the stonework on image 1 looks similar to the stonework in the perrin & aviendha picture, and the arch in image 2 could be a falme arch like what we see in the perrin & aviendha and seanchan vs. whitecloaks picture. alternately, picture 2 could be tar valon since i think there were some white stone arches in the streets of that city too. if it is tar valon, it could be either a) early in 2x01 and we see his capture onscreen, rather than the episode opening with him already in captivity, or b) after he gets out of liandrin's clutches.
how will he get out of liandrin's clutches? maybe he breaks out on his own, or maybe siuan gets wind of what's going on and intervenes to make liandrin let him go - this could also serve as an event to strengthen siuan's suspicions of black ajah in the tower, leading to her creation of the wondergirls task force.
i will end the post here since i hit the 30 image limit haha

Thoughts about 2x03 - What Might Be (show spoilers)
When I started watching the episode and Nynaeve was going through the Accepted test, I was hooked. I really loved what they did with the Arches of What Was and What Is.
And the Arch of What Will Be... My confusion and reaction to that! In my head I went from shock at her never being able to be an Aes Sedai again, to hope when she sees Lan, who offers her to go back to the Two Rivers together. Then I realized I was fooled and I felt so good! Like, that is all she'd ever want. The combination of Lan and caring for her people. But then she didn't go through the gate. She stayed with Lan.
And Egwene and the Tower grieved her... I mean, I had hope that she would come back, but the distress I went through... I was terrified they would take my favorite character away. At the end of the episode, she came back. But only after spending a long time in the Arch, having a little girl with Lan (who let his hair down and was extra hot) and being there with her family and Mat and Perrin, the Trollocs came and killed everyone, leading her to run through a second gate.
This storyline... I have no words for it. It is so good. One of the best I've ever seen, certainly the best in a fantasy series. The other storylines, with Rand in Cairhien, Mat and Min (who works for Liandrin), Perrin and the Seanchan (excuse me UNO), they were very good, but not comparable to Nynaeve's test.
For me, the best episode up to now. Wow. I cried multiple times.

wheel of time season two (episodes 1, 2 & 3) thoughts:
new mat is amazing i love him
leandrin continues to terrify me
ELAYNE
people continuing to clock rand as an aielman lol
moraine's grief for her channeling is so palpable, you can see her despair in every expression she makes
literally obsessed with the double act that is mat and min, the brotp i didn't know i needed
the seanchan and the damane are exactly as horrifying as i hoped they would be and i love how they've got like southern american accents
i actually really like how they introduced elyas as a tracker but it means we got no hurin 💔
RED COAT RAND IN THE CHANEL BOOTS
egwene looking at the amyrlin's dress 👀
i kinda can't wait to see how traumatised nynaeve's going to be after the arches, which is pretty evil of me fr
also rand not being in her arches!reality because she thinks he's DEAD
meeea syal as verin!! and i also think it's smart how they amalgamated her character with vandene
i can't believe what they did to my boy uno
rand working with the mentality ill is honestly so in character, like of course he has so much compassion because he knows that'll be him one day if what everyone says about male channelers is true
MAZRIM TAIN REFERENCE
lan with his hair down looking like fabio
alanna being so cute and likable is really difficult for me because i know what's to come
honestly selene is really hot and i don't blame rand for falling into bed with her AT ALL
also ISHAMAEL IS ALSO HOT WTF
i'm pretty happy with everything so far and none of the changes have made me angry as of yet

body type: slender, toned from training / fighting
dominant hand: right

vices: drinking, gambling, smoking, fighting, sleeping around
sex and romance
sexual orientation: heterosexual
turn-ons: powerful women, especially evil ones lol wait wut don't judge him please
turn-offs: being nagged lol he'd say this. he'd so say this.
love languages: acts of service ( giving ) , physical touch ( both ), gift giving ( giving ) , words of affirmation ( receiving but he might get weird about it)
relationship tendencies: he is very showy, over the top, likes to leave an impression. will do various things - give gifts , plan things, to get their attention or win them over so to speak. very loyal and devoted. but when it comes to emotional things he's very closed off, isolates his emotions. his personality is adaptable to circumstances and company so he's tough to get to know or to figure what he really wants. if pressed on that end he'll get hostile and sulky. he's considerate, charming , attentive. but a little overeager to leave an impression, to make them happy, to make them like him. but that's not something he'll ever admit to. he's a bit of a contradiction. he'll come off either aggressive or passive. but he's not either. physical things are very easy for him though, a little too easy probably.
miscellaneous
hobbies to pass time: gambling, drinking, fighting, dancing, listening to music, training, HORSES, playing stones, women -- can women be his hobby? he wants it to be, fishing, collecting rocks.
mental illnesses: ptsd - from various different experiences. he needs a hug plz .....but like he probably wouldn't hug you back.
self confidence level: i like to say that he's the most insecure cocky, self assured, self deprecating, confident person you'll ever meet.

WoT episode three. Let's do this.
Nynaeve you are my everything.
Oh wait, is this the part where Zoe kept on out-running the cameras? Good stuff.
It's interesting how adaptations works. The sacred pool in the Two Rivers is an excellent mirror for the Eye of the World from the books (in this case a well of saidar rather than saidin). It's also in the pool where we see Nynaeve really battle evil for the first time and kick evil's ass.
It also mirrors what happens to Nynaeve at the end of the first book, without extraneous Forsaken and gross attempted rape.
The Dragon's Fang in the water is such a great touch.
The hair flip! Hot damn I love Nynaeve al'Meara.
"That's not how roads work." One of season one's most iconic lines.
Wolves are howling in the distance? I guess Perrin's around.
They're just, they're all friends, you know? They care about each other, they support each other, they call each other dumbasses (affectionate AND derogatory). I'm just having a lot of Feelings about Them.
Another quick book comparison. I recently re-read EotW and was really disappointed with the bits where Egwene and Perrin are separated from the group. At that point, RJ didn't have a really good idea of who Egwene was. And Perrin was written like a ginormous ass. Plus, the undercurrent of "Men think women are mysterious and women think men are stupid" that would permeate the rest of the series really reared its head for the first time.
Anyway, I like the show version a whole lot more.
Nynaeve gathering herbs my beloved.
Perrin, Perrin, Perrin. They wolves aren't trying to hurt you. They're trying to help you.
I love cowboy rockstar Thom Merrillin. Also this song is another banger.
Dana is such a good character. Such a great way to start off the series' true philosophical discussion.
Lan already has Nynaeve's number. Love that for them.
Maria Doyle Kennedy makes every show better. That's just science.
A little Aiel 101. I'm sure we'll never need this information at any point in the future.
This really is the Mat Studies episode. It's all about the contradictions with that one.

Let's (re)Read The Dragon Reborn! Chapter 15: The Gray Man
No, the Gray Man is obviously not the woman in the picture. But perhaps they are in the picture. You'd hardly notice them, so well camouflaged! What you will notice is spoilers, lots and lots of spoilers for The Wheel of Time. So don't keep reading if that's going to be a problem!
This chapter has the mirrored Aes Sedai icon because it's still about the Black Ajah hunt.
Think, Egwene. Liandrin would not have tried to put us out of the way unless she thought we were a threat to her. I can’t imagine how, or to what, but I cannot see how it could have changed, either. If there are any Black Ajah still here, they will surely see us the same way, whether they suspect what we’re doing or not.
Think Egwene, think!
*gestures to the sa'angreal Liandrin tried to steal*
Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power!
But seriously. Nynaeve is always good at cutting right to the heart of scheming, a lesson Egwene still needs. The real question is if Siuan overlooked this angle, mistakenly assumes that it's only because the girls are powerful, or if she's aware of the risk to the DR-associated gals but feels she has no choice anyway even though the only thing keeping the girls safe is that the BA needs to be subtle.
“You sound like Sheriam. You never have before. You have pushed every limit they’ve put on you. Why would you accept limits now, when we might have to ignore them to stay alive?”
It's fun how it's Egwene, the girl who will be the first to come back around to the Three Oaths after questioning them, who is most against them now. It's good character development how she does come to appreciate necessary limitations put on her - I feel strongly that Jordan absolutely did not intend to have Egwene come to the political solutions to the coup that Sanderson creates in his trilogy.
What special reason did Nynaeve have for wanting to learn more of what the White Tower could teach? What was it she wanted to do? Why was Nynaeve keeping it secret from her?
She wants to steal Lan from Moiraine you silly goose.
Egwene caught her shoulders and pulled her to an abrupt halt. “What—?” Something tugged at her hair, stung her ear. A black blur streaked in front of her face to clang against the wall, and in the next breath Nynaeve was bearing her to the gallery floor, behind the railing.
This is probably the closest thing to ta'veren level luck the girls have in these books, which I'm willing to chalk up to early installment weirdness all things considered. If they hadn't beaten Elayne back to their quarters none of this would have gone donw!
I told you there were other ways to defend ourselves. I used Air, to hold him with air. If it is a he; I could not see him clearly. A trick the Amyrlin showed me once, though I doubt she expected me to see how it was done.
Normally it's a bit annoying how characters might infodump to each other things they were both there for, but since it's been months since this encounter and Egwene's had her own training through hell since then I don't mind too much. Nynaeve is finally thinking like a channeler, which I'm sure we all agree is wonderful.
Sheriam Sedai stopped at the top of the ramp, frowning at what she saw. “What in the name of the Light has happened here?” She hurried forward, her serenity gone for once.
How convenient that she happened to be right here when the crime happened instead of literally anywhere else in the Tower. It's almost like Sheriam is the one who let the Gray Man into the Novices' Quarters in the first place.
The Soulless, the Gray Men, give up their souls to serve the Dark One as assassins. They are not really alive, after that. Not quite dead, but not truly alive. And despite the name, some Gray Men are women. A very few. Even among Darkfriends, only a handful of women are stupid enough to make that sacrifice.
I think part of it is that so many Darkfriend women are likely Black Ajah and it would be a waste of their actual talents to do this. I don't think it's translation convention that it's "Gray Men" instead of "Gray People" or "Gray Folk" or whatever, but a genuinely gendered term because Gray Women are so rare.
You will speak of this to none but me, or to the Amyrlin, should she mention it first.
A great way to cover things up, as Siuan will never know about it to mention it first.
Egwene curtsied, and tugged at Nynaeve’s sleeve, but Nynaeve said, “Why did you come up here, Sheriam Sedai?”
Egwene's right to point out that Nynaeve's questioning here is not remotely circumspect, but she's right that risks are necessary. Sadly, neither notices that Sheriam's refusal to answer is exactly what keeps her so suspect.
But when she reached the door to her room, the heavy bolt was gone. Only the jagged chip in the stone beside the door said it had ever been there.
Sheriam already took care of that for Egwene, and again is being bound by the need for secrecy to avoid calling her out directly.
“Forgive me, Sheriam Sedai,” she said hastily, dropping a curtsy and settling her cloak on her shoulders at the same time. “This . . . finding a dead man—a . . . a Gray Man!—it made me cold. If we may go now?”
Not the best excuse, but believable enough. Sheriam wouldn't see through it immediately except for how she's in the know.
Nynaeve rounded on her. “What are you babbling about? Have you forgotten what we’re doing?”
Nynaeve demands realistic dialogue only and will not condescend to Egwene's very forced attempts to worldbuild about how Healing works.
She never wondered who stabbed him.
Because she knows! Why are you two not more suspicious about this?????
Next time: Nynaeve kicks hot coeds out of her bedroom!

the girlfriends have asked
esseastri asked: DAV meme: A L L (but especially 2, 4, 6, and 11) kogiopsis asked: AWW HECK YEAH. DAV asks: 3, 4, 8, 9, and 16?
2. Which Dragon Age game is your favorite so far?
probably 2 for the relationships and whacky plot hijinks and its the one i think about the most now, but i did really miss the tactical parts of dao, so that's my fav gameplay
3. Do you usually play as a warrior, mage, or rogue? Which class are you planning to try first this time around? Which subclass?
rogue and rogue, so probably veil ranger bc i like sniping
4. What does your worldstate look like going into DAV?
my canon one is mildly different from how i actually played it initially bc i couldnt bring myself to leave hawke but i know thats. what should happen for my characters. so i changed it in the keep. still hurts tho. uh, warden is busy skipping around looking for a cure (in game, at least, in my headcanon shes an aeducan so she overthrew bhelen and works on orzammar reform and smooches her divine wife). hawke is poly with all four of the babes (and she would take varric and aveline too if they wanted. canon is just isabella tho) and was mostly running with everyone to keep anders safe but also try and get the mages to calm down and then adamant happened. im so sorry everyone. the spouses are all extremely mad. and then my quiz is still doing quiz things with sera and trying to keep the peace i guess and mad at solas for lying and blowing up her shit. uh. what else matters.
oh i made a post about this once.
6. Do you have your Rook(s) planned out to any degree? If so, would you share some details or ideas you have?
uh. dwarf lady rogue but beyond that no idea. i havent decided on a faction yet bc they all sound interesting but need more details.
8. What faction are you most excited to learn more about?
the veiljumpers i think for new ones but also wardens make me go asdg;asdkhg;asdjf
9. Which romance, if any, do you plan to pursue first?
honestly it will probably be taash bc. big woman. is my type. but damn it emmerich doesn;t sound tempting.
11. What's one thing you'd really like to see in this next game?
im excited to hear about the CC improvement and more hairstyles! i'm playing DAI on my xbox rn (with Elayne Trakand Trevelyen, Daughter-Heir of.... Ostwick. and the hair options are horrendous Elayne would never allow this. Where are her fluffy dresses. I was going to work on my Egwene playthrough but i guess there are no qunari hair options without mods?? and that is just wrong)
16. What's one crack theory you subscribe to (yours or someone else's)?
if you left hawke (or whoever i guess, but no one else is as important as hawke) they're still alive. and theyre either not happy or someone had to make nice with the elvhen gods to get out, and thats gonna be an issue. Or Merrill finally figured stuff out and she will actually get some development or at least a mention!
as a not question: my second playthru is my wheel of time run. I did the boys (Perrin Cousland, Mat Hawke and Rand al'Trevelyen) and I was working on a third wondergirls playthrough. But like. I need a 4th boy. Who's gonna be my 4th boy?? Gawayn or Galad??
#thank u#age of dragons#i have many feefees about my canon group#ah my tags for them are#erya 'double bird salute' aeducan#avi 'oh my maker' hawke#a la bob belchers oh my god voice#and#lidia 'fuck bitches get money' cadash

Full spoilery reactions to S2E1 below the cut
- The Xray says this is TAR. How does someone bring their child to TAR? Why would someone bring their child to TAR? Or maybe she just dreamed herself there somehow and it’s not actually her mom?
- A while back I saw a really cool theory that it was in Amadicia and it was her house. It was based on the house being star shaped, and the map of cultures inspiring costumes for the Westlands.
- I miss the opening credits so much.
- I do not think I could be adequately motivated to take a bath if I had to haul that much water that far. Sponge baths only for me! She doesn’t really do this every day, right? Like, how would she get anything else done?
- I love the bath scene from S1E1 so much; this is such a sad parallel to that relatively happy scene.
- Rafe knows what his audience wants. Daniel does such a nice job showing how Lan is handling this without a word.
- Adeleas is all of us.
- I like that Moiraine is getting her visitors from TDR. And we actually get to have an idea of just what information they are bringing.
- Bayle Doman! I saw someone was unhappy he didn’t have the book facial hair. I didn’t think anyone would be disappointed in much of RJ’s hairstyle ideas being avoided. At the very least the Cairheinin and Maidens of the Spear are upgraded.
- This is not subtle Egwene foreshadowing with the Amyrlin dress.
- “I have enough character.” Yes you do, girl!
- I’ve seen plenty of people comment that learning a weave to decontaminate water is so much more useful for girls who may never advance beyond novices than juggling balls of light, but it’s so true it deserves yet another mention.
- I love that Nynaeve has no ability to meditate on a flower bud opening. I don’t think I could either.
- Interesting Nynaeve hasn’t channeled at all. She’s never been mad enough? Find that hard to believe.
- Nynaeve is my QUEEN. Don’t let those Aes Sedai boss you around.
- I wonder if Liandrin was the one who beat Moiraine, instead of Elaida like I assumed? Is that how a Novice died under her?
- Sheriam’s hair swirl on her chignon is amazing.
- Perrin’s clothes are definitely a step up.
- I fully support swapping in Elayas for Hurin. It works with canon and is a great way to introduce him.
- Yes, make the audience love Uno. This definitely will not come back to bite us later.
- I don’t see the fuss about Masema being hot. But the religious undertones are spot on.
- I love how they are visually showing us Perrin’s wolf-sense with the ability to see recent events. Also how he has to learn to not react to them.
- Does this mean the girl is still alive? Will we see her again? Will we have a child Darkfriend???
- I love how Lan bites off “she’s afraid,” as if even admitting to another Warder that his Aes Sedai is ever afraid is a betrayal, and he regrets the words slipping out. Daniel and Rosamund just get their characters so well.
- Is that how you pronounce Adeleas?
- Is it cool to say you’re available to be Warder for another Warder’s Aes Sedai’s? It seems like that would be super rude.
- A moon dial outside Cairhein, you say???
- That was a cool/cold move, Moiraine! At least she follows up her bargaining with genuine concern and just passes him ten marks like it’s nothing.
- How many takes did Rosamund need to say “The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills” that fast?
- I like Nynaeve with the Warders. She actually has some friends of her own in the Tower, unlike in the books. I love that they seem to care about her too.
- This Alanna scene is hilarious. Maddie playing up Egwene’s awkwardness and discomfort so physically is terrific.
- Egwene is wearing her hair like the other Novice’s do. It makes Nynaeve stand out more with her braid that she’s refusing to adapt, rather than that Egwene so readily adapts to whatever culture she is in. Or both, I guess.
- Kate Fleetwood kills in this kitchen scene. A very nice change from Suiane doing this to Liandrin. Ups the intensity because Linadrin is the more threatening one currently. Her distain for Warders—what great line delivery. But insult/threaten Lan and you (finally) provoke Nynaeve enough to make her channel.
- She saw it once and copied it!
- Nynaeve shielded is reacting an awful lot like Moiraine last season. Further support for the inverted weave shield theory! (I think it’s going to unravel on it’s own, like Asmodean’s, instead of Rand or Nynaeve fixing it. But I’m terrible at predicting the show.)
- “I want to see you become so powerful that no man, no woman will ever be able to take that away from you.” Such a great motivation. Probably not the right one for Nynaeve, but I think Linadrin really wants Nynaeve to succeed.
- “Why are you doing this for him?” “All men deserve a proper burial…Does it bother you that I’ve bestowed this small mercy on him?…Anger won’t bring my men back.” Random other fandom thought: this makes me think of the end of The Black Cauldron—it’s easy to judge good and evil unmixed.
- More Perrin struggling with his rage and violence.
- “Perhaps Fain had a reason for doing what he did.” What’s that Intar? Taking this conversation a bit personally, perhaps?
- Dang, Moiraine is cold. Couldn’t she, like, make up a mission to send Lan away on? Instead of trying to be so mean he leaves on his own?
- “Make it yourself. And have it wherever you want.” That would be a really cool line to storm out on if you didn’t immediately follow it up by making her a plate.
- How is it Bel Tine already?
- Perrin may not talk much, but the man can write a good letter.
- Liandrin just straight up lied here, right?
- Oh, my poor Mat. It’ll get better!
- I’m glad Perrin keeps his ring. And that he has a lantern for Rand.
- What, is it pick on Lan night? I mean asking them to wait is annoying. And he has kept trying to throw himself pity parties. But Moiraine is making it really personal for him! He’s justified in being frustrated and angry.
- “I think that’s the first time in my life someone’s told me I need to be quiet.”
- I want some na’an bread.
- Can Lan not sense the Fades because he doesn’t have the bond? Or were they shielded like the Drakhar like in the book?
- I was annoyed that Lan couldn’t take on two Fades, but then a read a thread of Fade encounters and two at once is a lot even for Lan. One at a time is doable but not guaranteed in canon.
- “Wing flutter” in the captions made me think maybe we’d get a Drakhar anyway.
- “What aren’t you telling me?” is a pretty heartbreaking way to end this scene.

The Shadow Rising new reader thoughts: chapters 31-35
(Full disclosure: as I write these, I am on chapter 42. I got way behind in writing up my reactions)
Chapter 31: Assurances
Alanna is a bit scary. Her talk about forcing a bond on the ta'veren boys was... uh... concerning. Verin remains my favorite Aes Sedai after Moiraine, and probably my favorite side character overall. She's so quietly sassy. "An easy manner?" Verin said, blinking. "Moiraine? I never noticed." I love her so much. RIP Owein aka Maksim.
The conversations between Perrin, Tam and Abell were nice. Wholesome dad behavior.
Fucking Whitecloaks again. Also I JUST learned that Padan Fain merged his soul with the Shadar Logoth guy. IN BOOK ONE. Who was going to tell me this???? I had to get it explained and I still don't really understand, but oh well.
Chapter 32: Questions to Be Asked
I have approximately zero thoughts about this chapter. I just don't find the Two Rivers reunions all that compelling. It's funny that Perrin still isn't suspicious of Faile's backstory even though the narrative has a blinking neon sign going "SHE'S SECRETLY A NOBLE."
Chapter 33: A New Weave in the Pattern
Lord Luc is 1) tall and 2) has red hair. Who does that sound like? RAND. I really can't be bothered to figure out that family tree, though. The book will tell me when it tells me.
Intrigue! Verin says to watch out for Alanna... I think there's at least a 30% chance Alanna tries to force-bond Perrin by the end of this book. I hope that doesn't happen because I like Alanna but at this point the possibility has been mentioned too many times for it to be nothing.
Every time I read the name Lewin, my brain just goes to Lews Therin and it's extremely unhelpful.
Chapter 34: He Who Comes with the Dawn
"Mat was a great complainer at small discomforts..." This is the most I've ever related to Mat. "Great complainer at small discomforts" should be my tagline.
This chapter actually fucks hard. The description of Rand's dragon tattoos was badass, and we got a lot of exposition on Rand's biological parents. Shaiel is a cool name for a cool woman, and I'm pretty sure Janduin was ta'veren.
MOIRAINE LAN CONTENT - Lan being worried for Moiraine in the arches, and then running down to scoop her up as soon as she came back! We got three whole paragraphs, I'm living. [Also then I read this missing scene fanfiction by that's very good.]
Chapter 35: Sharp Lessons
This chapter title is so good. Also Egwene seeing Elayne shirtless in Tel'aran'rhiod is very sapphic.
I want to slap Egwene at the end of this chapter. She's like "Oh, Moiraine looks upset from what happened in Rhuidean, I should check on her." Then when she checks on her and Moiraine spouts some frankly concerning sentiments about the Pattern and her life, Egwene is like "Wow what a bitch."
“The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills, and we are only the thread of the Pattern. I have given my life to finding the Dragon Reborn, finding Rand, and seeing him ready to face the Last Battle. I will see that done, whatever it requires. Nothing and no one can be more important than that.” Shivering despite her sweat, Egwene closed her eyes. The Aes Sedai did not want comforting. She was a lump of ice, not a woman.
This is fascinating because what Egwene hears is that Moiraine would sacrifice anything to help the Dragon's cause, but she completely skips over hearing that Moiraine has already sacrificed her entire life and everything she holds dear. This happens again and again with different characters and I feel feral every time I think about it. But I'm always feral about Moiraine so what else is new.
