i did make a post about how embarrassing the historical illiteracy of the median australian is, particularly wrt the history of his region of the world (SEA and the southern pacific).

Well, dear followers, I threw a stone in a glass house because I know next to nothing about the malayan emergency nor the degree of australia's involvement in the indonesian anti communist genocide of the mid 60s

#i was too busy learning about pre columbian americas and turn of the century US policy and economic development and 20th century chinese his #well you get the picture. pretty big oversight #“why didnt you study pre colonial aborigional history of australia” great question: the historiography is really bad to a depressing degree #i really have no excuse for the malayan emergency though #I think I also fell into the common ausfailian tendency to view australia as unremarkable and boring and to generally be embarrassed #which thankfully i have outgrown
