and!!!! rulie with the candle. i dont know why im going crazy about a candle but i AM. the fact that rulie uses a light method less modern than legend's old lamp is speaking to me and the inevitable conversation about legend's legacy and the gulf between their eras. this is canon and we've been talking about it for years but seeing them together in direct comparison like this is really hammering it into my skull. and of course jojo's attention to detail is once again UNPARALLELED

also the architecture in this dungeon is just gorgeous. jojo can u design my house pls??? 🥺🥺 i'm in love with all these zoomed out shots as well like holy shit. so effective in creating an atmosphere

the way the games are baked into every panel and plot point of this comic.. im actually deceased. also legend's stance is cracking me up

Unused Essences - Part 2

As I mentioned at the beginning of Part 1. I originally wanted to discuss everything in only one post, but because I hit the 30 image limit. I had to split it into two.

If you haven't yet, you can read Part 1 right here.

So without further fanfare, here's the rest. Below the cut again.

It’s fish. Just fish

Now this is where the unused essences start to get… even less complete than what we have seen this far. While there is a flair model leftover, and even a palette of paints. That palette is incomplete, It has a patterned paint swatch, but only one. The second pattern swatch is black, pure complete blackness. And the rest are pure white like the other essences we have discussed.

Now while I have been showing a render of the swatches up to this point, I do think it is worth showing how it looks in-game as well. Because what would be the second patterned swatch is instead completely pitch black.

It’s also worth mentioning that the one (1) swatch we do have is very similar to the rainbow trout swatch visible in-game. In-fact they are virtually identical to one another.

Sad Bear is an interesting case, while every essence that we have looked at so far has had some paints and text tied to it, this one does not. The only thing that remains is this very cute looking flair model.

We don’t know exactly what this would have been. It’s possible that this was just an earlier form of the final sad essence, but we don’t have any definitive evidence, leaving this one as a bit of a mystery.

Burn is another even more interesting one, and is more mysterious than Sad Bear. 

This one is unique in that it does not have any leftover text, or even a flair model, but it does have two full pattern swatches. But this is even more interesting, with everything discussed before, the Material Sets that allow the paints to appear in-game could be brute forced and loaded in the PC version with no problems, this however cannot.

As a result, whether or not there are any flat paints to accompany the palette is completely unknown.

Ok hear me out on this one.

This last one is just the Cherry Blossom essence. Except under the name of Apple Blossom. Every bit of text, every paint swatch, every everything is the exact same as the final Cherry Blossom, but with ‘appleblossom’ as its internal name. However in the actual text that is displayed in-game, it is still referred to as Cherry Blossom.

Interestingly, while the duplicate textures remain in the game’s files. The material set to actually make them appear in-game seems to no longer exist. Creating another Burn essence situation, where they can’t be seen in-game.

Although it would probably just be a duplicate of the Cherry Blossom’s set as well.

It is worth noting that there are also a few other models in the game files bearing the Apple Blossom name, but none of them follow the standard convention for essence models which is ‘flairEssenceName’, but they do at least provide an alternative idea of what an Apple Blossom essence could have looked like.

And with that, these have been almost all of the unused essences in MySims. But believe it or not, there are still more unused essences to talk about! A whopping 27 that I could find at the time I’m writing this.

However they are… much less interesting compared to the ones discussed today. These have all had some kind of interesting leftover attached to them, whether that’s a model, textures, or text. But these remaining essences on the other hand…

Are comprised entirely out of very basic placeholder assets, which make them not very interesting to look at in comparison.

I do want to talk about them at some point in the near future though, and I can say with certainty that it will be before 2032!

Paintbrush is a tank!!

They’re a mid range melee fighter thats heavy n slow but does high damage

ok heres the actual moveset

Passive- PAINT SPILL

The more you attack, the more paint you lose. Losing paint increases your attack speed but decreases damage dealt. Regain paint slowly overtime or by 50% upon elimination.

Using your primary attack covers enemies in paint each time they are hit. At five stacks apply slow and vulnerability to an enemy.

Primary- (name pending)

Swing your paintbrush forward in a wide radius.

Secondary- DRYBRUSHING/(name pending)

If at less than 30% paint, quickly slash forward four times, favoring speed rather than damage. Doing this doesn’t add marks to an enemy.

With paint, slash twice, dealing knock back and applying slow to enemies hit.

Q- DIP!

At the cost of paint hold ‘Q’ to drag your paintbrush across the floor, giving you a small speed boost. Releasing ‘Q’ or running out of paint: jump and do a flip into the air before slamming your brush down, causing AoE damage.

If you run out of paint before attack finishes, deal significantly less damage.

E- (name pending)

Use your palette as a temporary shield for up to 15 seconds or until it is destroyed. Press E again while your shield is still up to toss your palette in front of you and knock back any enemies.

( Once you toss your shield it doesn’t come back to you until the ability cool down finishes. It’s not a boomerang )

My reasoning behind the moves I chose

you can skip to dialogue if you don’t feel like reading a ton of text cause there’s a lot lol.

My thought process behind the passive effect with the stacking and everything is like- they’re ‘covering’ their enemies in paint, so when covered in enough paint (the 5 stacks) it makes the enemy slower and leaves them more vulnerable if that makes sense. I also wanted paintbrush to have some sort of big limitation which is where the limited paint mechanic comes from cause I had a feeling i would probably accidentally make them too op lol.

Primary is pretty self explanatory. Though, the secondary im really proud of simply because I like the name ‘drybrushing’ lol.

The Q ability was actually suggested by a friend. Originally Q was just a dash ability to give paintbrush a chance to get away from faster characters since they’re naturally slower but i liked the lil flip idea just cause that seems fun :]

Also I called it ‘dip’ because the slam into the ground made me think of dipping a paint brush in paint? if that makes sense? (though.. that is a very aggressive way to get paint if ur doing it how Brush does in the attack lmao)

Ok my favorite, the E ability!! So if you haven’t seen my other post abt them (go look at it!! their ref sheet, lore and character relationships r there /nf)

But yeah if you haven’t seen it, Paintbrush is based off of the ‘powerful paintbrush’ item, which also comes with a palette that acts like a shield. I didn’t want to give them both a shield and their brush, so I decided to turn it into a ability.

I will say this ability is definitely the most thought out one. The idea is that since Paintbrush is slower they’re more susceptible to being rushed by faster characters like say- Skateboard or Biograft for example. So this shield is there to block those attacks, but also can be used to knock enemies back to give Brush a chance to escape. You can’t attack with the shield up so it’s use is purely to just deflect damage until you toss it or until it breaks/runs out.

Kinda related but there's a detail that always stuck out to me but which I still couldn't fully like rationalize cause interpretations keep teetering into full-on reaching... what is the meaning behind npc name colours? That Ara has a red name. Elster has orange - analogous to red, and that Ara has a direct relationship to Elster. Ariane has a blue name - a complimentary colour to orange, Falke has a purple name - a colour complimentary to Adler's yellow, the "designated couples" compliment and complete each other. Isa had iirc green name - forming an analogous palette of orange-yellow-green with Elster and Adler, and with the amount of parallels these three have between each other....

AND BEO'S NAME IS GRAY. BEO IS OUTSIDE OF THE COLOUR SPECTRUM. BEO IS THE SOLE NPC WHO REFERS TO HERSELF AS HER NICKNAME INSTEAD OF HER UNIT TYPE. WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IT IS BEO JUST ABOVE AND BEYOND THE SHIT EVERYONE DEALS WITH-

as you already know I am a huge fan of this artist (i have two physical prints from his store) so OF COURSE my fav piece of fanart is from him!

I just love the color palette and the backlighting and the expressions and the YEARNING ITS ABOUT THE YEARNING. For only a 4 panel comic w/o any dialogue it does SUCH a fantastic job of conveying its meaning through microexpressions alone. I think its SUCH a good example of the less-is-more approach to story telling.

I could probably talk abt this piece for hours but i'll try to be quicker than that lmao

I love the amt of texture that Mr. Cowboy puts in his digital drawings. There's so much consideration when you look at the different brushes and color contrasts you see in his work that adds SO MUCH detail without the piece feeling too busy. Like seriously go click on the images to enlarge them and just look at the color blocking on the faces and where the highlights are.

This piece is in Mr. Cowboys style while still doing a great job of capturing the likeness of the actors without going into uncanny valley territory of hyper realism (nothing wrong with realism im just not personally a fan of it). I've always appreciated his style bc I love how evocative it is of those vintage posters or pulp fiction novels. And i think Dean and Cas just look real real good in the style. Plus I love some of the personal touches Mr. Cowboy added to their character designs!! Like giving Dean ear piercings and showing a chain around his neck (that is presumably a necklace)

THE RIM LIGHTING. THE RIM LIGHTING!!!!!!! I can't get over it. The highlighted dust particles floating through the air. How their hair and the tips of their noses have an orange/red tinge to them from the warm lamp lighting. How their profiles are haloed by the lamps (which was completely intentional if you read Mr. Cowboys description of the piece) THE FUCKING!!!!!!!! EYELASH HIGHLIGHTS!!!!!! and the way in panel 4 how Dean's eyes just get that much shinier. Like he's holding back tears AUUUUGH MR COWBOY IM CRAWLING THROUGH YOUR VENTS LIKE A RABID SQUIRREL

i am generally just a big BIG fan of like. how do i describe this. blocked gazes/close cropping in art or photos. I can't get enough of it. There's just something about it. Is it my fear of intimacy or eye contact? or perhaps that the piece becomes voyeuristic in nature from the audience's obscured view thereby implying that it is not FOR us and we are only seeing a glimpse into the complex world of the subjects???? Some combination of all of them????????? probably! but yeah i simply ADORE that we don't get to see Cas' expression!

The title of the piece is 'I had a dream and you were in it' which in the tags of Mr. Cowboys post is said to be referring to a Father John Misty song, presumably To S. which i LOVE FJM and im a huge slut for connecting other forms of art to music (hence why i always name my fics after songs)

Basic:

3/4 Zabrak so she has 2 hearts

Has 3 cranial spikes down the center of her skull

Slightly force-sensitive, she gets "gut feelings" and can sometimes sense a shift in the force. However, due to a lack of proper training, she doesn't have any real control over it

Mostly acts as a smuggler but dips her toes in bounty hunting and other occupations

Didn't draw them but she's got slightly elongated canines

Usually always has at least a blaster pistol on her but she's got an entire arsenal she'll use to get the job done as well as some kind of bladed weapon

Speaks several languages which i may have to come back an add

I have no set "era" for her so I'll kind of default to 31 for her age unless plotted/or planned out with someone

The necklace belonged to her late mother. It's never taken off and she's not above killing someone if they try to take it from her

my first impressions of the characters from the twitter post thing that DRDTDev made about the other killing game. First off: I love all of them, and half the cast gives me gender envy. I am continually impressed at DRDTDev’s character designing ability, especially in making them interesting, non-boring designs that still communicate their personality and aren’t too complex or over designed. ugh. love them for it (/platonically and/or parasocially)

First off, here’s an image of the characters!!

Just take a few seconds to admire them.

Ok! I’ll be going over some theories that relate to all of the characters, and then character by character, and then at the end a little general reflection.

So, one of the main theories that have been posed is that this killing game takes place before the events of DRDT, which I am like 87% sure of (up 7% from my last post, woo). It makes sense, especially in the context of the other theories regarding the characters. As well as this, it just makes sense timeline-wise.

There is also a theory that every character is somehow connected to someone in the current killing game, which I am still a little unsure of. I can definitely see it for some characters, but we know so little about each of them that it’s really hard to say whether or not that’s true. I will be going over who I think could be connected to who, just in case it does end up being true. However, I think a more likely theory is that a couple of the people involved in this killing game (likely the survivors) are connected to the current one, and exactly how much is up for us to discover.

Ok, on to the characters!

First off!

(I don’t know why, but she’s the only one who’s photo is cropped. oh well)

Pretty!! For the sake of this post, I’ll be calling her Spiral (I will be using the names that @xmicrophonyx came up with!).

My first thought when I saw her (besides the obligatory screeching) was that she gave me teacher vibes? That might be since I already had the context of this story being “about a person who wants to become the perfect teacher”. But outside of that, she definitely looks shy, with her hunched over posture and expression. I do adore her color palette, and the pops of teal add a lot.

In terms of a possible talent/role, I still think she gives teacher-y vibes, whatever that means, although outside of that I would think her talent is something a little more professional, considering her attire being formal (the coat, top, and scarf most of all). So other possibilities could be a secretary, librarian, buisness woman, etc.

Spiral could also be some kind of fancy art critic, or someone who works with the Spurling Foundation, if we need to connect her to the current killing game somehow.

Next up!

The boy!!!!

I’m going to be honest with you. I think he’s my favorite. His demeanor, the neon green jacket, the fingerless gloves, the cap, the khaki capri pants, the aura of a 14 year old shoujo protagonist—he is the moment. The fan name for him is Soundwave.

I think he likely deals with music, since the pattern on his shirt reminds me of sound recordings. Specifically, he probably is into the more technical side of music, such as EDM or techno or something like that (I know pretty much nothing about music, so take my word with a grain of salt).

Because of this, I think Soundwave would be connected to J. J also is in a similar sort of technical profession, so I think that maybe he could be someone who ends up working with J in the future/has worked with J or something like that.

There’s one thing with Soundwave that also is present in 2 of the other characters—he looks quite a bit younger than most of the cast. He’s shorter, yes, but his proportions also make him seem younger. However, the DRDTDev specifies that all of the characters present are 18 or above, so it likely doesn’t mean anything. People can just look young, after all.

I think that’s all, but I’m really excited to learn more about this character because he just seems so fun :)

Oh boy, let’s talk about them…

Hello there, XF. I will also be trying my best to use all of his pronouns! (Those being he/she/they). I am so happy to have yet another gender-non-conforming character in the general DRDT universe, and it is amazing to see such a wide array of diversity and representation in this cast, as well as the cast of the current killing game. Genuinely, I am just… blown away.

She is also the character which we have the strongest connection to the current killing game/a character from the current killing game, that being Min. Min mentions in her bonus episode that an organization called XF-Ture Tech were the ones to sponsor her for the test to become the Ultimate Student. On XF’s coat is an XF-Ture Logo. As well as this, they have the exact same tie clip that Min has.

PLUS, on top of this, he has the same purple/pink eyes that Min has. That last detail almost made me think they were related, but I don’t necessarily believe so. I mean, they might be, but I’m more inclined to believe that XF is just affiliated with/the leader of XF-Ture. There are A LOT of theories for her (along with a lot of simping ahem), but I won’t be mentioning all of them.

If they are the founder of XF-Ture Tech, I imagine their talent would be something like Ultimate Founder, Ultimate Inventor, Ultimate CEO, or something in that vein. He may not be the founder, however, and instead may just work for XF-Ture Tech. I’m not entirely sure, but I am inclined to believe that she is the founder because of the pink eyes. I have a theory that Min actually wears contacts, and that’s why her eyes look the same as XF’s. I may be totally wrong about this, and I thought that DRDTDev already said they weren’t, but I looked through the QnAs and I couldn’t find anything saying that. Unless it is confirmed somewhere, or it gets confirmed, that’s my theory for now!

As well as this, in the chapter 2 part 1 QnA, DRDTDev mentions that Min’s least favorite color(s) are pink and white together, because it’s “annoying”. Since that is a part of XF’s color palette, that draws an obvious connection between the two of them. If Min has had a lot of interaction with XF, and perceives them as annoying, this could be the reason for that connection. It definitely furthers the theory that Min and XF are connected. I’m pretty sure I barely scratched the surface in terms of what has been theorized about them, so I recommend you check out @accirax @googledetective and the posts they made, as well as any of the posts that are bound to be made by the rest of the DRDT theorists.

Him!!!!!!!

For all of you who don’t know, this character uses he/him pronouns and I absolutely love him for that :,) I am truly just… flabbergasted at how amazing DRDTDev continues to be in adding representation to their stories, and not only that, but doing such a good job of it.

Anyways! I will be calling him Dandelion after the dandelion in his hair.

As far as what we can deduce based on his outfit and demeanor: obviously this is a character who messes around with gender presentation (we stan) and doesn’t fall into the rigid categories that many cultures try to enforce. He also looks somewhat naive, and young (though all of these characters are ~18, of course). I also definitely don’t think his talent is something physically demanding, since he seems pretty skinny, and his clothes don’t look like they would be good for running around in.

However, this character has a few things that might key us in to what his talent might be. The first of which is his clothing, since my first thought on seeing it was that it looked trendy, or like something an influencer would wear. In a way that kind of juxtaposes their outfit, however, he has a dandelion in his hair, through the band keeping it up. It is very different from the rest of his color palette, and dandelions are usually considered ‘weeds’, which makes me think that Dandelion’s talent is instead something plant-based.

Since that dandelion is just so different from the rest of his outfit, I believe the latter is true, and that his talent is something like the Ultimate Botanist.

In terms of characters he might be connected to, my first thought was Levi. They both are fashionable, and if my previous thought of Bunny being an influencer or something of the like, it makes sense for Levi to know them somehow. Still, it’s a shaky theory.

I love asymmetrical designs, and the green/blue hair strand balances out his hair really well. I do also really like the strap on his leg, it gives him a slightly edgier look. I will be calling him “Scale” for convenience (I had names for each of these characters before someone came up with better ones, but @pastelclownkitty and I actually had the same idea for this guy!).

So, firsts things first: I do not think he is Elliot Cuevas. I saw this theory, considered it, and have come to the conclusion it doesn’t make sense (at least to me. if this is one of your theories that’s totally fine!). Elliot is described, by DRDTDev in the chapter 2 part 1 QnA, as having looked “shockingly similar” to how Charles looks now. I think the comparison is vague at best, not shocking. They do both have purple hair and dark skin, but both shades of those things are darker for Scale.

In terms of talent, the pattern of his shirt has been pointed out, and I agree that it probably relates to his talent. In fact, Scale somewhat reminds me of an anglerfish, with that bright green in his eyes and that strand of hair. I don’t know, I think I’m just saying things at this point.

Due to the mentioned factors above, I believe his talent is related to fishing or swimming, something like the Ultimate Angler. I can’t discern his build from under his clothing, but he looks a little skinny to be the Ultimate Swimming Pro or anything like that.

Ok. I’m sorry, but he looks a little… Fishy (don’t mind the pun). Maybe it’s how calm he is, or his mouth, but he reminds me of Rantaro somewhat. I love his design, though, and I think his color palette is supremely cool. I also like how his hair highlight is very faintly rainbow. It reminds me of how when you look at water a certain way, it shows a rainbow.

Our protag!! Or, well, Teacher.

Now, I’m pretty sure almost everyone agrees that this character is the Ultimate Teacher, or something of the like. He also has an ID card which says:

This ID card is the property of Hope’s Peak Academy. Use of this ID card by any person other than the rightful holder is prohibited. Report lost or stolen ID cards by contacted 555-483-7367.

Now, numbers starting with 555 are used for fictional phone numbers, specifically in North America, which is how we’re able to tell that this killing game’s participants probably come from the same Hope’s Peak that the participants of the current killing game are from. Other than that, it doesn’t really tell us much, other than our Protag has an ID card for Hope’s Peak. This leads us to believe that he may be staff, however DRDTDev confirms that these are 11 students.

One thing, though, that I think may be something…

What if Teacher is, instead of just a student, a student teacher? Basically, what if he is someone who comes in to help the actual teachers with the class load and such, but isn’t a classmate of the rest of the Ultimates. Either that, or he’s just a student who carries around his ID card from a lanyard. Like a weirdo (/j).

Now: The Mai thing. Many people think that Teacher may be a relative of Mai, or connected to her in some way, due to the red in his hair, on his shoes, and on the inside of his coat. However, the red used with his colors is very different from Mai’s red. Another theory to why he might be related to Mai is because his eyes are always closed in all the art we’ve seen of him, so maybe he’s related to one of the cast and DRDTDev is keeping his eyes closed to not spoil who. I do believe this part, just not with Mai.

Okay well, here my theory goes:

Teacher is the older brother of Teruko. Teruko mentions in chapter 1 episode 4 that she has an older brother, but they were separated when she was 5. She likely doesn’t remember much about him at all (and I suspect that he was the one who Teruko says she “couldn’t remember the face” of as well). Although they don’t have the same hair color, they do have a very similar skin color, and the closed-eye thing could be just as true with Teruko as with Mai. As well as this, most characters in all of DRDT have a gradient on their eyelashes. 3 characters who don’t? Mai, Teruko, and now Teacher.

Imma be honest, it’s a bit of a crack theory, but I kinda like it, and think it’s interesting. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be the only one to believe this haha

Oh wait! I almost forgot! The whole thing on him being the “Teacher” referenced in secret text. I don’t have much to say on that except that yeah, that’s probably true. Maybe. Who knows.

Sigh, I love men.

I’ll be calling this dude Mint, which I know is separate from the names that @xmicrophonyx came up with, but… I think it’s cute, so. First off, his design is great, yada yada, and I love his little cropped jacket. Very cute.

I definitely think his design is pretty sporty, especially with the layers of the undershirt, over shirt, and jacket, along with the coat around his waist. My first thought for him is that he does some kind of racing, either with cars or motorcycles, because that’s what his jacket reminds me of. Race car drivers do wear gloves, so this would make sense for that. I imagine this isn’t his actual racing clothes, instead just casual clothes, but there are still elements of his racing clothes in there. Along with this, it makes sense that he’d have his hair tied back so then he could fit it under his helmet and it wouldn’t get in his face too much (although I suspect his ponytail is too high to fit under a helmet. Oh well, he might wear it lower on race days).

His personality seems like it would fit that sort of thing as well, since he looks serious and somewhat aggressive. He also has those little marks under his eyes. I’m not entirely sure what they’re for, but I’m sure I could connect it back somehow if I wasn’t working on this post for like 3 hours and had any energy whatsoever to do research into it (I just got home from a very long car ride, so keep in mind I am still somewhat delirious). Idk. Maybe he just wanted to look pretty/intimidating/whatever so he put markings under his eyes.

A Child?!? Well, no, probably not, but she does look very, very young. Perhaps it’s the fact she’s right next to Teacher, who I’m pretty sure is the tallest out of the cast? Maybe it’s also the fact that the color that dominates her design is pink, and her complimentary color is baby blue.

So, her design is pretty clearly inspired by sheep/rams, since her pupil is the same shape as them, her braids are coiled up similarly to ram horns, and the bottom of her coat/dress looks like sheep wool. The bell on her bow also looks like the pupil of a sheep, too. I actually had a phase of drawing people with that type of pupil, too, because I thought it looked so interesting and unique. I still think characters with those kind of eyes are pretty cool.

Since her design looks so much like a sheep/ram, you would think that was involved in her talent, however in her eye you can see a little needle. That makes me think she’s a tailor or seamstress or something like that. Perhaps, since wool is a big material used for fabric, she cares for sheep and then makes fabric out of their wool, or something in that vein.

She seems pretty peppy and happy, so I assume she would take on an Eden-esque role in this killing game (Though, I assume, she is actually far different, and likely more naive than Eden is).

Our girl Fire! She is hot, amiright? (Cue the applause). I don’t know what came over me, with that pun. Maybe the spirit of Whit or something.

But no, seriously, she is certainly a… very attractive woman. The snakebite piercings, eyebrow piercings, nose piercings, and bellybutton piercing? Oh my. A win for the girlkissers. A win indeed.

She certainly gives aggressive energy, like she would fight you (and win, obviously. It wouldn’t even be a competition). She looks like she could take Xander. Also!! I really like her teeth, because one of my teeth stick out like that too. I’m pretty sure it’s the one in the exact same spot as her, just mirrored. I’ve always kind of liked it.

Now, her outfit is definitely very sporty, though I’m unsure of which sport exactly. Her abs and chunky gloves give the vibe of something like a boxer or weightlifter, but she also has chaps on. I’m truly unsure if the chaps are just decorative or if she actually does ride horses (I want to say they’re just decorative because white chaps? Not a good idea. No white clothes are really a good idea when you ride horses a lot. Especially if the horses are unruly lol). Plus, she has a lot of skin exposed, and I can say from experience that flies and bugs are a bitch, and there are a lot when horses are involved.

I also just wanted to point out that Fire and Ice (her brother, who I’ll be talking about next) have eyes that are half brown and half grey, and they each have a color palette of either brown or grey and another color (the extra colors are also complimentary). I personally believe this is because the siblings/twins are very different, and likely don’t get along too well, but that’s just a theory. A DRDT theory. I’m mentally unwell, I think.

Favorite Color: Man, it's really quite hard to choose a favorite honestly. Especially as an artist I just like combos more than colors by themselves. Usually I say blue (specifically cyan) and pink. If you google Ori Will of the Wisps Luma pools thats like my ideal color palette.

Last Book/Fic: My latest read was Dreams of the Downside by my friend VonVenerables! Latest chapted made me feel a lot of feels ohhhh. Also, surprisingly fitting with my latest musings abt meaning of life and death and stuff (i guess it's semi-related to the chapter itself, but they're there in spirit!).

Last Movie: Man, it really has been a while sincei've watched any... The latest I can remember is Inside out 2 i think??? Great movie! Last TV Show: Also been a while since i've watched any... Prooobably Blue eye samurai? (it's been months since I've finished it but shush lmao). One of the best tv shows i've ever watched! I read the companion novels for this version and they’re so prominent and have cool abilities and cultures and kingdoms but !! They don’t show any of that in the movie !! Like why add lore if you’re not going to show it… also I like the fact that in the companion novels they rule over fictional seas and their world map is different from ours, but then in the film they just mention real world locations like… pick one

- okay I gotta talk about it 😔 Ariel’s ocean transformation dress. Not to mention that whole scene. It’s one of my favorites in the original and they just… scrapped it. I was looking forward to them actually showing Ariel’s transformation back into a human at the end because I thought the original should’ve included it too (hello I love a good Barbie transformation scene) but they still didn’t show it… AND they didn’t even show the gold magic going to her tail OR her reaction!!! Like BRO WHAT???? And the fact that they took out her magical dress???? And just put her back in RAGS like they put my poor girl in a torn up smelly dress and for what 😭 not to mention the fact that they imply she had to swim naked, find the rags dress, and climb up all those stairs AHEM YEAH THEY ALSO TOOK OUT THE RISING FROM THE WATER SCENE LIKE BRO also if they didn’t want to include the ocean dress (mistake but ok, they could’ve had her scales transform into a dress but ok) they could’ve at least fixed up her blue dress… added some shimmer or shells and coral idk man

- yeah she needed at least one more day outfit… my girl wore the same dress for three days in a row… and one of those days it fell in a lake…

- the fact that every transformation scene was either dark and hidden or not shown at all (come on budget??)

- the screen test version where Ariel had more upper body and arm scales… was better. She just looked so empty compared to her sisters it was a weird choice they made to make her top look more like an actual bandeau bra with a harsh cut off and everything

- yes Ariel and Eric needed a duet

- where was the ensemble?? The choir??? Both in under the sea and kiss the girl??? Under the sea should’ve had a lot more people singing as the song went on especially since he’s talking about instruments and animals (that don’t even get shown???) but instead it sounds so empty since he’s singing by himself until Halle joins and a tiny quiet ensemble — and in kiss the girl it was such a BAD choice to have it just be scuttle Sebastian and flounder I’m sorry but it ruined the sultry smooth jazz calypso vibe of that beautiful song 😭 flounder’s vocals threw me so far out of it lmao they could’ve started the song singing it but the ensemble should’ve come in!!! Where were the harmonies!!! Anyway the broadway version is my fave listen to that instead

- the lyric changes were so unnecessary… Ursula’s a villain, duh she’s gonna spout some shady misogynistic advice… plus that was my fave part of the song 😭 also the whole “use your words boy” line was unnecessary… because when he leans into kiss her multiple times he doesn’t even ask………… like they missed the point there (also why was he already so willing to kiss her, he should’ve been super reluctant 😭)

- they took out les poissons which, fine, I guess but we’re not even gonna have a kitchen scene in any way?? Also Ariel got over the whole food for slaughter thing real quick but I’m glad they brought it up at all

- they could’ve had Sebastian rap at the ending bridge of under the sea (as an alternative to scuttlebutt)

- where was the finale song !!! With all the merpeople and humans singing together!!! At least have Ariel sing the deleted clip of it !!! Now we can walk now we can run… ugh we needed it

- loved the ending… but that final shot was a bit wonky?

- where was the cruise ship????? If we’re not gonna see the wedding on the ship (missing triton’s water spout and rainbow) fine but not even the engagement cruise?? Hello budget??? We didn’t even get to see Ariel swimming her butt off to get to Vanessa?? But we got her tackling her instead 😭😭 odd choice

- I’m sorry but the visuals were not giving on wild uncharted waters, at least in the first half… like show something!! Show him on the beach at least!! At Ariel’s rock??? Show flashbacks?? Idk something??

- the fact that Sebastian is no longer the court composer 😔 and he’s not dignified anymore he’s just an abused wannabe advisor who is harassed like whaaaaat he’s supposed to be one of her father figuresssss,,, also the fact that he’s so miffed and takes things into his own hands during KTG is because he’s a composer, it’s why he mentions bands and instruments in under the sea!!

- I was afraid of this when the casting announcement was first made but I was looking for some more expressive… expressions from Halle :( mainly in the poor unfortunate souls scene and when she has no voice, like she does a great job but I do think she needed to be more expressive in some parts

- why does Ariel call him father?? And not daddy?? Small nitpick but it seemed a lot colder/distant when she called him father lol like it threw me out of it in the goodbye scene

- the whole concert scene was gone lmao not to mention that we barely even see other merpeople or their culture, we literally just see the sisters in an otherwise empty sea until the ending

- no lyrics to Vanessa’s song :( but it was sung beautifully. Oh also it made no sense that Vanessa’s melody started singing before she even put the necklace on?? Like wha?? Why would Ariel’s melody change on its own? Also why did Vanessa not talk in Ariel’s voice? That girl had three voices come out of her XD I guess they wanted the actress to be able to talk??

- also I wish Vanessa were black too since she was supposed to look so similar to Ariel and be mistaken for her (Halle could’ve played her, or even Chloe!) but the actress did a great job so it’s fine

- I’m sorry but Eric should’ve been Hispanic imo… :( they made sure it takes place in the Caribbean but still had a white Eric? Who was adopted? Idk man I wanted a Latino prince :/ also wasn’t a fan of the way they styled his hair or stubble because he looks much better in other things he’s been in

- Eric had only one outfit, even for his wedding XD, and what was up with that weird blue vest

- the shot of Ariel in the sun was too blurry and dark :( didn’t give off the same vibes as the og

- Carlotta 😭 poor girl was written out!!! Lashana was obviously supposed to be her so why change her name?

- I do kinda wish they made the three days longer (give her a week?) but I get why they didn’t, that’s just a personal thing

- some of the underwater scenes were shot at an angle that were unflattering to Halle which pissed me off because she looks stunning in every other part of the movie

- why did Eric’s castle look like a gray European fortress 😭 where were the red tiled roofs and the canals

- Atlantica went from a glowing golden magical city-palace to an underground rocky coral cave… couldn’t we have done a mix?

- flounder was so unnecessary he was barely in the movie in favor for the scuttle/Sebastian dynamic

All in all I HOPE they make a sequel (but please don’t base it off of the terrible animated one lmao please no kids) and give Ariel and Eric a duet, give Eric a tail!!! Make him explore her world too!!! And actually address the fact that Ursula killed the queen like the companion novels state… also please include a full transformation scene lol also why does no one make a version where she can switch between worlds freely, it’s okay I’ll write that into my own version

Fae OC Whom I Can’t Name

I changed their design and I’m so glad because the old haircut… BLEH! I had to draw this with my finger and hence the lines are a bit wobbly. I changed the suit from the original one with a slightly different lapel, a different pattern and removing the bow tie so that I could replace it with the gem this and the ruffles. I also BARELY changed the shoes but I did that in my schoolbook so I need to get that book to share it. Initially I planned on giving them a monochrome green colour palette and damn am I so thankful to myself for managing to learn to tolerate other colours. As you can see they have mushroom earrings (hey, yeah, you, pretend that whoever made those earrings is really stupid and can’t mould a literal mushroom properly- yeah) to allude to fairy circles aka circles of mushrooms. Also have the mushroom tail. I don’t know how original that is I’m just hoping it is otherwise I’ll look really stupid for copying some DnD species- I say, having played DnD… because I never properly read the rules :D. The cracks are just there I guess and they have guw (however you spell it) but I didn’t draw that in this because I wasn’t sure what colour it would be. I’m concerned this looks too much like a tumblr s*xyman and/or a hazbin hotel character- damn my obsession with that show. Ok maybe making them less thin salvaged it. I dunno this is an antagonist and is a fae but you know the evil sort.

Truthfully, I’m prepared to abscond permanently from school and make an indie animated show with comics with my friends. YES IT WOULD BE A MUSICAL AND YES THE CHARACTERS WOULD REGULARLY HAVE FUNNY FRAMES! YES IT WOULD BE INSANELY QUEER MWAHAHAHAHHAH

I recently watched Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and it literally describes the British educational system perfectly (I don’t know what it’s like in other countries so other people would have to say). Like the creative episode was literally just art. No hate whatsoever to our art teachers but why can’t we draw any cartoony stuff? As in the curriculum specifically discourages it. I mean art is literally meant to be creative so… eh? Kind of sad… also the love episode. That one I feel was more to do with society but that’s just me because my schools have never taught us about love. I dunno as an aro ace person I laughed so hard whilst watching it with my friends. Also the animation in that show is fantastic both in the YouTube series and the bbc series (I know it’s on channel 4 but meh whatever). I think red guy is probably my favourite character. Help the fact there’s him and then Allen from Smiling Friends who I find insanely funny and they’re both red. I don’t know I’ve only really watched clips of smiling friends but turns out it’s on channel 4 I think so I think I could watch it then.

One thing I can’t forgive Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared for… they coloured in the tiles at the end of the first episode- I FELT SO INFURIATED THAT I CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR AND STUFFED MY FACE UNDER MY BED! WRATH AND FURY WERE MY SOLE EMOTIONS!

But seriously I love the animation in both these shows.

I mainly wanted to say that your tumblr blog is like a breath of fresh air as someone who saw a lot of the pokemon character shipping wars when I first got into the fandom around 2015. I'm also an amourshipper, it was my first ship and the way I got into fandom, but I genuinely love seeing other ships also get love, multishipping is so fun and just freeing, like why choose when you can just enjoy both!

Also do you had any amourshipping headcanons?

I've been in this fandom on YouTube and on Deviantart since 2007, I thought it was so peaceful compared to the current shipping fights, Of course I was a person who rarely looked at ship comments, since I wasn't interested. I have had contact with many if not multi-shippers, they were respectful and seemed to make fanart of everything (Poke, Advanced, Pearl, Negai...even Amourshipping and Yumeshippers or Canon X OC), I think it helped me to be neutral in that sense...

Oh I just love them so much, I have so many different headcanons I consider them as multi verses (UAs) both what I wrote in 2013-2018 and what I did in this fandom in 2019-2023.

Well, let's take it one step at a time. In 2013, I started watching XY and joined the fandom on Deepy. I watched absolutely everything other than AMVs...uh I looked at FanFiction FF net (I used page translation to read on my first phone) and saw that there were many other different things, I chose some ships to write about... specifically (Amourshipping/Mirroramourshipping) being the main ones from my pre-teen era the second one I chose to write about was, Palleshipping (I thought I had to have a separate account for everything so... I kind of did something like "I was a Palleshipper") which wasn't very cool, but I apologize because I was a kid and didn't know that, I didn't need to go THAT FAR, and could have posted this on my main (2014-2015) I started reading Shinsato, before I saw some things but...it was just hitting some random site lol, I just ignored it. Sapphirepearlshipping IS THE NEXT WHO I CHOOSE WRITE 😭🩷🤎🧡🥰

But reading it all and rewatching it I know I'm neutral to the palettes on screen. I also got to write Gary X Serena lol I just didn't see it happening in the show but it was fun to make this conflict of feelings so you could say it's my fanon (this was probably the beginning of my bi Ash Ketchum headcanon)

When I was younger I didn't know about the things that PokémonRangerboyguy did, but...I remember watching his own videos with Fancyfashionshipping (Dawn X Serena with Lost in you style) so it began + my wlw Serena agenda and Dawn lesbian even more deeply (despite knowing Sana x Serena and Miette X Serena...I was more neutral towards them too and saw them as friends/BFF)

I admit that in my new rewatch... I was more in favor of Serena X Aria imo...

Now, let's go to part 2, wlw SatoSere this is something that I simply, ONLY found out about entering the miraculous fandom, they usually have a VERY strong headcanon wlw ship or mlm ship or male/fem genderswap...male Marinette/ trans Marinette/ transfem Adrien/ fem Adrien Agreste etc. I just took this and did the same for SatoSere (I already wrote Adrien X Marin and Marinette X Adrianne (which helped me to do Amourdreamshipping) crosdessering Ash in fem Ash slash SatoSere...many things I couldn't finish or start in 2016-2017 because at the time I didn't have time (in high school I tried teacher training and it took up all my time 😭🫠 so I deleted all the stories I was working on)

Now, the third part is that I REALLY LIKED MIRRIOR ASH HE SO CUTE AND HOLY SHIT IT TOOK MY MIND ✨⭐ I DID SO MUCH THINGS WITH HIM THAT I CAN'T SAY one blog without becoming bigger than it already is 😭 but one universe in particular is that he is AUTISTIC (before I was diagnosed with autism) so this is my favorite. ❤️🫠

ooh okay so i sent that ask about ulta!! the palettes you recommended are soooo gorgeous but unfortunately i'm a deepset/hooded eye girl and i don't have much lid space to work with so i've never bothered much with eye makeup. i totally forgot ulta has chanel makeup though so i've been browsing through what they have bc i've wanted to try their makeup for ages (ever since i read that's what emma d'arcy's makeup artist used on them in house of the dragon). also the pat mcgrath blush you recommended is so so pretty!! i think i've decided against the snif samples but i'll definitely get the l'occitane lotions. i'm on the hunt for a new fall/winter fragrance but i honestly am just not that interested in most of the fragrances ulta carries i feel like it's mostly designer which is just not my thing. although they do have a couple from tocca which i tried like years ago and remember liking, any opinions on tocca? and maybe this is really specific but i wonder if you happen to have any thoughts/recommendations for a powder blush? i really like a soft matte look for the colder seasons but i haven't found a powder blush that i really like yet. anyway, thanks so much for your recs i really appreciate it!!!!

OH MY GOD im so sorry i literally jusy saw this!!!!!!!!um ok so the palettes are a no go thats ok!! and i like tocca ok they are one of the more okish cutesy designery but somehow not a designer brands out there. i had cleopatra for a long time. very light and airy and summer/springy most of their fragrances and inoffensive to good for the most part 🙂 they have one thats like an exact dupe for the offensively named byredo fragrance i cant remember which one it is.

and powder blushes! i am SUCH a blush girl i looooove blush i have easily like 40+ blushes. my fav powder formula is probably the tarte amazonian clay to be honest its such an oldie but a goodie like they are cult favs for a reason!!!!! i have the shade risque as well as two others but risque is far and away my fav. its like a nude-ish pink almost a peach but not quite? and a bit darker than a lot of blushes and i find it sooooooooooo flattering like unbelievably gorgeous on the skin. heres a swatch and ill donother swatches of my other fav powder blushes too which are the pat mcgrath ones!! such a wonderful formula i have the shades nymphette and nude venus i find they have a very beautiful soft focus finish to them. i woul recommend the milani ones but they are quite luminous and none are really matte finish.

Fishing for the moon in the sea at night

Just finished the game, it was pretty fun. 

Ok first why does this game has 3 names? Fishing for the moon in the sea at night / Towelket one more time 0 / Yorunoumi2

I have wanted to play this one for a long time, I have said it a couple of times before but TK4 is my favorite TK game (maybe one day I will explain why in detail) so a “remake” immediately caught my attention. In the end the game was completely different from what I expected it to be. While it borrows some concepts and story beats from TK4 it really is its own thing.

This game look so pretty. One of my favorite things about the series is watching how the art progresses in each game. I absolutely love how the world of the inn looks. White, black, red and blue look so nice together, and thanks to the border it’s like reading a story book. 

Also the sprites look nice, it’s the same style from 5 so I have no complains... ok maybe I have one complain. Mocha’s sprite. I’m sorry but the sprite from 4 is still the better looking one. Oh also Buritoba and Sekken-bako got new sprites and now they actually look like TK characters. It bothered me a little how normal their sprites did look in 4. They were literally just girl#1 and girl#2.

I almost forgot to talk about my favorite sprite, that’s right Nekojita’s(?). This weird fusion of Warawau and Nekojita that came out of nowhere. I love it, it’s adorable. Their palettes are pretty similar so no surprise why it works so well.

Music was good as always, I could listen to Furikusuku’s mansion theme for hours.

About the gameplay, almost no battles this time around. There are a couple of mandatory fights, but you are basicaly guaranted to win. I think it’s alright, battles have always been one of the weaker points of the series, and this game clearly wants to focus on the story. I hope they return in the next games though.

This game is pretty unique in the sense that you need to play it multiple times to actually understand the story. It has a “route system” where you can date 1 of 11 characters and depending on who you dated you get a different ending. Most endings are pretty much the same, but some are essential to understand what’s going on. On my first playthrough I went for Koucha and after beating the game I was so confused that I blamed the MTL, but no, it turns out a lot of concepts and lore are in the other routes. Even the Koucha route splits! And did you know some dialogue can change based on the gender you choose? So save a lot if you play it. I ended up using all 15 slots. 

And this brings me to my first complaint. I think the route system ended up hurting the story overall. One of the things that I really did like from 4 is the amount of time you get to spend with Mocha and Koucha, we get to see how their relationship evolves, them interacting with others characters or just fooling around, by the end of the game you know them pretty well and you care if something happens to them. In this game you spend very little time with the character you choose, so the more emotional parts didn’t really do a lot for me. I understand that asking Kanao to write that much dialogue for 11 characters is just unrealistic so I wish we had less routes so the other routes could have more dialogue.

Trying to piece the story together was pretty fun. I understand “The true purpose of the inn”, “The story of Mocha and Furikusuku” and “The sins of the Inkeepers”, but I’m still confused about concepts like the Tokage and Uikechuke transformation. You get 2 examples for the Tokage one, but almost no info for the Uikechuke transformation.

This game introduces Smile DK, I think she’s okay, but she only really shines when she’s with Nyanyamo, they are really funny together. Also I really like what’s been done with Nyanyamo design and personality. If I had a top 5 she would definitely be there. Pucchi remains a consistently good character. PPU was there and had more lines than in 4. Please give Agochu her labcoat back.

Overall a fun and solid game, but I have to admit that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.  Maybe I had too high of expectations. 

A now some trivia: 

1) If you examine the game files it looks like a Buritoba route was considered at some point before being dropped, I didn’t even notice until I read a thread in Japanese Yahoo.

2) If you extract the StringScripts for the game there’s a lot of dialogue for what appears to be a route in which Koucha is possesed by Furikusuku. I couldn’t find any info about this, so please tell me if it was actually implemented in the game.

3) To unlock the Moochasu route you need to go on a date with him before going to Barrieland, then you need to tell Kyuuri or Chihedo that you love her when she confesses, so she connects the inn 1 day earlier. Finally you need to be on the Koucha route so you can go to the inn when you get the wedding ring. Moochasu is inside the bath, give him the ring and you are done. Took me a while to figure how to date him so I hope this helps someone one day.

ok so the main reason why i started liking him so much in the first place was getting to know his past reincarnation as yyj and how he feels about it and his development(?) from it so. i’ll put this under the cut

the fact that he’s someone so.. somewhat rooted in the present, and has moved on completely from his past reincarnation as yinyue jun/dan feng is just? really admirable to me?? he was so firm in saying that he is not dan feng anymore and he won’t let dan feng’s past hang over him. and he’s right- he really isn’t dan feng anymore and the fact that he’s so self assured made me admire him a lot.

his conversation with jing yuan was so tense but bittersweet, and while i can tell jing yuan had some mixed feelings about it (i imagine he saw dan feng as a dear friend.. or more, and seeing him again—sorta—only for him to say that he is not that friend anymore, n being told that wld hurt obviously), he was ultimately very happy that dan heng choose to leave it behind and really. move on to a new life with his found family in the express. and i’m also rly proud n happy of dan heng for being so….. so Agh. i can’t explain. so assured!! it’s so nice to see.

i can only imagine how hard it wouldve been to get to that stage- but that scene. that conversation with jing yuan where he firmly tells him that he will not walk in dan feng’s shadow anymore was what made me start liking him so much. it made me quite emotional ngl

but also that scene where he was forcibly turned into yinyue jun and the one whr revealed the dragon palace (with samudrartha playing in the bg) were so cool n hype i just ghdufhekgleklejf;@:£&/
