ahhh sure!!! gonna do this all under the cut because 1) i ramble and 2) i don't want to spoil anything for anyone who prefers to go into fics completely blind!!

okay so blff first!! my prompt is:

Prompt 82: Rivals/enemies to lovers AU where they’re at a house party or something and Louis is talking shit about harry and he says “I can’t stand Harry Styles.” Harry overheard and he’s drunk, so with a smirk he says “kneel then” and that got Louis’s back to straighten and he turns beet red and starts cursing at Harry for being an insufferable prat. Fast forward three months, Louis is kneeling for Harry and preens every time Harry calls him sweetheart.

i think i talked about it before in another ask but some aspects have changed including the pov!! it used to be harry's pov but the story ended up deciding to be louis' instead </3 essentially, louis is the president of the biggest omega sorority on campus and harry is the president of the biggest alpha fraternity on campus and they're sort of "sibling" organizations?? like they do stuff together like host socials, do fun competitions, and host events to raise money... but louis and harry really do not like each other shjklss they take these competitions really seriously – hence the rivals aspect – and are constantly arguing and bickering about everything at team meetings.

harry's vp, naomi, recently came up with the idea to have a mating cycles database between the two organizations!! and louis is signed up but he never really intends to use it unless he has to. however, the way the database works is that when an alpha/omega requests a partner for their rut/heat, their "application" gets sent to those who haven't already been partnered with someone in the last couple of months and whose "preferences" line up!! so louis gets one one day and is ~intrigued~ sjskls (i know you know where this is going) and even though this isn't really something he does, he ends up going for it and clicking yes. needless to say, he and harry get paired for harry's rut which comes as a shock to louis who believed harry wasn't in the database (the only reason he'd ever be a part of it lol) but yes things evolve from there!! (shout out to jas for coming up with both the initial prompt and the idea of frat/sorority rivals!!)

i'm not going to get *too* detailed on this one because i want it to be a surprise for the most part like jafitd was shjskls but you can read a snippet of it here if you haven't already!! basically, louis and harry are on a case!! and it revolves around this small haunted castle off the coast of scotland (orkney islands) overlooking the bay of skaill which has recently been inherited by a man named blaine macgregor. it involves ghost(s), some treasure hunting (because what is an old castle without secret hidden treasure??), and perhaps an unsolved murder as well... aka very self-indulgent shjsks ofc venus will be accompanying them because she is the real star <3 and the others will probably pop in via facetime or something since it's pretty damn hard to get to this castle.

will also say that there is three new characters that will be involved that i absolutely adore <3 (hint: they are not exactly human shjskls) and some twists and turns because y'all know i love those!!

i’ll also just say that i’m really excited about this one!! it involves a lot of things i love but that are also hard to execute sjksl so hopefully i’ll be able to do it justice! the fact that this fic will also obviously be established relationship in particular is something i’ll be working to execute right!! i’ve written variations of it before – my most recent fic and yesterday came suddenly – but it’s definitely not a trope i normally gravitate towards!! i love some angst and pining <333 and although i don’t plan on creating any relationship issues/drama between hl in this fic to provide that extra excitement (they’ve been through enough already shjskls) i will definitely be compensating for that in other ways...

i feel like u never get asked about “works like a charm” !! so this is me asking abt it 🥳🥳 how did you get the idea of writing it? and is there anything else u wanna say about it? feel free to ramble bc i love it when u talk abt ur writing !!!

omg how did i get the idea for writing it??? shjksls okay but seriously, i think it just started with me listing tropes and concepts that i knew hayley (my friend that i wrote it for!) loves: hogwarts aus (specifically with louis and harry both in slytherin), enemies to lovers... choking... etc <3 i also knew i wanted it to be a "shorter" (short for me shjskls) fic so i was trying to come up with reasons for them to be forced to interact and i think me and sarah were discussing it and we considered tropes like them getting stuck together somewhere (which is still a trope i'd want to explore one day since it's a classic!) and more but eventually the idea of louis being injured after a quidditch game and harry being forced to help him around as a punishment formed and things sort of just fell into place after that!!

i remember miscommunication was also something i wanted to explore with this fic so thus was borne the idea for their "enemies to lovers" state. anything else i want to say about it... hmmm.... i guess i'll say that this fic holds a special place in my heart!! channeled some of my love of jily (marauders era fanfics >>) into it and just hp in general (jkr sucks ass but this book series did help define my childhood alongside pjo, etc) it was super fun to dive back into that world but also have it collide with 1d and hl <3 very grateful to my beta jesse for helping shed light on the more obscure details for me because it had been a while since i'd read anything related to that world.

i'd love to one day return to the universe of this fic and see what they're up to now – like, post-hogwarts <3 perhaps that will be a drabble idea for one day!!

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

the first thing that comes to mind is the writing process shjksls i wrote this fic in four days and to this day, i will never understand how the fuck i pulled that off?? i know writers who can easily bust out 10k in a day but that'd never happened to me before, let alone multiple days in a row. do not know what was in the water but it's never come back!

also... i posted it on mother's day, hoping it'd be a distraction from what's usually a really hard day for me but instead i was a nervous wreck afterward, regretting every choice i made and wanting to delete the whole thing. will never be able to express how much those initial kind reactions meant to me on that day!! :') and later that night, someone dmed me to tell me their thoughts on the fic and that person ended up being one of the best friends i've made on here (love you @soldouthaz <3)

alright, enough rambling – for the fic itself, i'd say something that always sticks out to me in this fic is its exploration of love – in this case represented in the form of soulmates! how harry didn't believe in them, and louis didn't have much faith in them either at first, but both of them changed their minds at the end. how harry realized that at the end of the day, soulmates are still someone you choose :’) i know a lot of people got frustrated with his character in the fic and i completely get why but i have a special place in my heart for this scared, stubborn man <3

11: What do you like best about this fic?

ahhh omg good question–– it’s been a while since i’ve reread this fic or immersed myself in its universe but... would it be a cop-out to say hl’s relationship?? that may be an obvious answer (because, duh, of course hl is my favorite part of an hl fic sjksl) but i’m just so fond of their dynamic in this fic and how tender and sweet they are with each other :’) like, just how supportive and attentive harry was toward louis as he went through his pregnancy, and how they were a team going through it from almost the beginning. the hockey game scene is still one of my top fav scenes i’ve ever written (still cannot believe i narrated an entire hockey game sjksls) where louis is so proud and exicted for harry... and then scared and panicked for him... and then absolutely overjoyed and flooded with happiness for him :’) they’re so lovely with each other, ugh!!

14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?

oh gosh... i wish i could say i've had an underlying message from this fic all along but shjks that's not true!! however, i will say that some overall messages and insights that may hopefully be taken from this fic are that one, love will always win. two, family is so so important [”This whole ordeal has had him thinking a lot about family and what it means. It's not just about blood, it's about love and trust. It's about being there for someone and knowing they'll be there for you in return.”] and three, a bit similar but... you are never alone!! louis spends much of the fic feeling alone and scared, but in reality he has so many people who care about him and who will stand by his side :’)

that’s just what comes up off the top of my head but i’m sure there’s some other themes hidden in there somewhere!!
