for tropes: villain song (and your favorite examples!)
Send me a Trope and I’ll rate it!
No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know |
oh my gosh. so, obviously, there’s disney villain songs, and i like poor unfortunate souls and friends on the other side a lot, while bill cipher’s cut song from weirdmageddon was amazing. it’s called it’s gonna get weird and it. does. also, mother knows best from tangled is just!!! damn. it made me understand how abusive family relationships work, since i have a bunch of privilege and the worst things my parents did to us growing up was being too overprotective
theatre-wise, obviously feed me and dentist from little shop of horrors. they’re both so snazzy and i was. a tooth. in my old group’s prodoction of little shop. i wanted to be audrey ii. master of the house, thenardier’s waltz, and dog eat dog from les mis are so different yet so good. the first one is “haha, we’re awful but isn’t this hilarious?” and then the second is just “we’re still horrible but it’s still funny!” and then dog eat dog is. yeah. and then beggars at the feast happens and it’s just!!! “yay! we get away with it!” like!!! guys!!! you abused the bride as a child!!!
and, for a more iffy, uncertain villainous status, some maybe-villain songs i love are no good deed from wicked, because it’s just so desperate, as well as wonderful because it’s so boppy!!! stars and javert’s soliloquy from les mis are just. he’s so lawful neutral, and he’s the antagonist, but he isn’t cruel. even thogh they make him kind of christian in the musical where in the book his religion was basically just the law, the religion angle works from an adaption compression and a way of communicating how law and religion intersect for him. most of the songs from evita are pretty damn cool, and every character is a jerk who wants their own way and manipulates other people to achieve that, as well as jesus christ superstar from. you know. jesus christ. superstar
then there’s villain songs that are just standalones!!! you’ll know some basic ones if you watched a bunch of amvs when you were thirteen, like plastic soul or don’t mess with me, but i prefer filk or filk-adjacent ones, like what would batman do, or nemeses, or then again, maybe not (which is more about the hero hitting on the villain but shh) (okay so i also have a thing for villain flirt songs), or watch out, you’re being watched
i
i think my tea has gone cold
