sometimes i forget metal sonic being nonbinary transfem is just like. my headcanon and not actual canon. like idk i think when teenage me (in the closet about being nonbinary myself) got super into metal sonic my brain picked up on the themes of identity everpresent in like 90% of the storylines metal is involved with in like all the continuities their mental health issues about being unable to reach the perfect ideal expected of them (one revolving around in part becoming (and also murdering but that’s beside the point) a male character) and also the fact that neo metal sonic is like literally a goth girl (their design has a skirt! the design of their arms literally gives them sleeves and gives the impression of clothing in a series where typically only female characters are fully dressed! the bottom two of their star shaped spines literally look like long hair and they have eyeliner!) like it probably wasn’t Intentional but the fact that when metal sonic had a choice of their own appearance they presented very femme is kind of just literal canon. and i went “huh metal sonic is like me!” (unaware that what I was having was gender dysphoria) and it just kinda evolved from there and now I cannot see them as cis.
