10 Examples of Good and Bad Advertising
Mercedes (good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLwML2PagbY
KFC, The Whole Chicken (bad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KykM1kwdaOA
Both examples use chickens and the movement of them. Mercedes using theres to show the smooth suspension of there cars. Showing off there comfortable ride that you will get from the car shown in a funny way that is memorable. However KFC used theres to show that chicken they sell in there foods is organic but rubbed off the wrong way on people. People found that it gave too much life to there food and showing the chicken being happy when you know how its going to turn out is too barbaric for some people.
Panda Feta (bad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X21mJh6j9i4
Like Old spice this advert was comedic and also a viral ad campaign, however it didn't seem to catch on as well. I think this is down to the fact its really not clear what they are trying to sell. With the Old spice ad they are always holding the bottle up and in the centre of the screen. With Panda Feta its only briefly shown at the end. I think Old Spices humour helps with that as its supposed to be over the top while Panda Feta just falls short
Ipod Silhouette (good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpM5nzSEyXE
This advert from the early 2000's properly captures the mood of early technology and dance. With the rise of portable music devices Apples shows you the mobility and versatility that they offered. This advert was pushed hard and it sold well. Ipod becoming the device everyone wanted and turning apple into the tech giant it is today. This advert was used over and over again and parodied by others.
Da Beers Company - Diamond is Forever (good) http://www.magazine-advertisements.com/uploads/2/1/8/4/21844100/de-beers-diamond-engagement-ring-1.jpg
One of the most successful adverts of all time in my eyes. So effective a lot of people dont even see it as an advert but more like a rule. There 1948 ad campaign to tell people that a ring for marriage should be worth two months of salary led them to be a giant in jewellery. Coming out of WW2 americans went through a golden boom in consumerism. With people having more money than ever to spend on goods and services Da Beers saw this ad launched there now monster ad campaign. They some how convinced the entire generation that you should pour money into a ring and people feel under peer pressure that if they didn't spend a huge amount of money on a ring they would be dissowned by their partner. Now a days we dont really care and most people are happy with a cheap ring then spend more money on weddings and honey moons or even putting it into savings for their children but at the time diamonds seemed to be rare and precious. However diamonds are not rare, they are extremelly common but Da Beers fooled everyone into thinking they were rare by bottlenecking the production of the diamonds and keeping them stored away increasing the rariety of them. This was achieved because they had such a monopoly on the market when it came to diamonds. There is a lot to talk about including controveries such as blood diamonds which Da Beers try to seperate themselves from but that is unrealted to the ads. So if they put away all the controverisy that Da Beers has and focus just on the ad campaign I believe it to be one of the biggest ad campaigns out there.
Coca Cola and Christmas (good) http://www.coca-cola.co.uk/content/dam/journey/gb/en/hidden/History/Coca-Cola-and-Christmas/Non-Hero-article-images/coca-cola-and-santa-02122014-image7-280x360.jpg
This is the best ad campaign I believe there has ever been. Father Christmas used to be green but Coca Cola changed that decades ago and made him the mascot of Christmas for Coca Cola. How Coca Cola changed the idea of Father Christmas to the Western World is insane to me, that would never happen these days with coporate idendtity. Also how Coca Cola made there drink, which is a cold drink a holiday drink is crazy, I thought everyone wants a hot drink at Christmas. Their ad campaigns are essential as they need to convince everyone that there drink, which is stupidly unhealthy and bad for you, is a treat when people really drink it all the time.
Coca Cola - Duffy (bad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=SgP1U8wN0u8
Now on the over side, a advert that was hated. After Duffy had clamied 3 Brit awards and 7 million album sales she starred in a Diet Coke advert. One of the adverts that just don't work with her voice being butchered and the completly wrong song for her to sing. This is another sad case of board executives not knowing why some art works and trying to pair good artists with the wrong work.
We Buy Any Car (bad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXiJBp7HK5o
Who let this happen? There are so many cheap adverts like this out there. Annoying repeative song and dance moves. Just makes you sit there waiting for it end. These adverts don't work, they just don't they make you hate the product.

Old Spice (good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owGykVbfgUE
This ad is so infamous I don't know anyone who doesn't know of it. They have made a killing of this really simple advert and made it more extravagant through each new advert. They even made a spin off deodrant that was stronger and muskier and had Terry Crews be the front man for the adverts, known at the time for work in Expendables and other action movies.
