Road to Home #10
First | Previous | AO3
-----
Marie Todd-Wang.
Why does her new name look horribly similar to what her brother adopted when Batman took him in? Simply its luck and she will hit anyone in the face who decides to use it full.
She has been living with Master Fu for a full year, as she decided to call him because it was rare to call him father (in any case, she could call him grandfather, but it's rare). In that time she learned many interesting things, but especially the fact that the old man in front of her intends that she save the world by wearing magic jewelry as an anime character.
Seriously, what about her life?
The only good thing is that she's being trained properly, she's enrolled in quite a few martial arts classes: Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Capoeira, Krav Maga (she doesn't know where he knows the guy from, but whenever Fu and he meet they seem ready to draw knives and attack each other), Kendo (by the Dragon prodigy, his words, not her), Kung-fu, Tai chi (taught by Fu as he learns to connect with Plagg). Added to that, she's also enrolled in gymnastics and every time she flies she can't help but think of the first Robin (and sometimes she gets mad).
And that is only training, physical, in spiritual subjects she has memorized several books of angelology and demonology, history and different books of magic... that she can't use, only know. Really sir?
Anyway, she has had a very busy year and is still learning. She only masters Kendo (it was actually natural about it, what a surprise) and is switching to fencing as well, a good way to combine styles and sweep with her enemies. Oh, with all that training she could search for the Joker and Batman would have nothing to say, especially with the magic, yes, yes.
She has also been learning French, Chinese and German (also Latin and a language she doesn't know where he got it from, but it doesn't sound like anything she knows).
Marie has barely had time to think about Jason or Tim, but she spends a moment before bed, hoping that her brother will rest in peace and that Tim won't get into trouble (she really has the feeling that the opposite is happening, but okay).
And now Fu wants to send her to school, to her, a dangerous girl with a group of defenseless kids. Very well, she knows that Master Fu is not perfect, it shows that he learned everything self-taught and falling into very deep mud pits, so she doesn't judge him, but she would like him to wait for his developing magical abilities to stabilize. (She says it specifically for the occasion when she accessed Kaalki's powers and ended up on top of the Empire State, oh, the police were very excited to know how she got there.)
This is how she got to this moment.
Françoise Dupont, great school.
She has a bad feeling.
And surprise, surprise. It's fulfilled when she first arrives in the classroom and a conceited blonde throws a grape juice on her pastel pink shirt. Marie resists the urge to move her to the top of the Burj Khalifa and smiles as kindly as she can, if she's going to be a heroine she must create a civilian personality that separates her personality with the mask and her real personality (just see Bruce Wayne, she's sure that the man is not half of what the media say about him).
"Oh, look, a poor insect. I'd apologize, but it's just the welcome you deserved. "
"Yeah, whatever, I have better things to waste my time on." She ignores the blonde, she won't mess with her. The guys who were already sitting look at her with their mouths open, good that there are no flies. Probably because she said it with a sweet smile.
She sits in the back, where she has a complete view of all the students so she can analyze them all.
From that day on, her routine changes a little. After school she has gymnastics, then she has fencing and she ends her day ending with learning necromancy (now, why?). Fu seems in a hurry to make her a magician and, above all, a powerful one if her alchemy teacher is right. Still, Marie knows that her best teachers are the Kwami, who seem excited to see her advance her learning.
Tikki and Plagg teach her about universal balance, divinity, and their intimate concepts, although she still doesn't fully understand them. The Kwami encourage her by saying that when the time comes, she will understand.
"Marie, come with me."
She follows Fu to the room where she keeps the box and opens it.
"You told me you would need more than one ally, in case the situation requires it. Today, you can choose the wonders who, when needed, should be in circulation. "
"And the users?"
"Your first test is to choose your companions."
Marie nods, this is just the beginning of her journey.

Domestic Valduggery Headcanons:
For @skulduggeryweeks and based off of these questions on deviantART.
Who cleans the most? Contrary to that, who is the messiest?
Skulduggery does most of the cleaning, he has to do something while Valkyrie is sleeping after all. Valkyrie is definitely the messiest, partially because she's the only one using half the stuff in the house (I mean it's not like Skulduggery's going to leave mugs or bowls lying around when he doesn't use them). And partially because she comes home after a 48-hour stakeout kicks off her boots, make herself a round of toast and then tells herself she clean it up later when she's caught up on her sleep, and by that time Skulduggery's already put everything away. However, Valkyrie does get better at cleaning up after herself once she moves to Meek Ridge and adopts Xena. You can't just leave shoes lying around with a puppy around after all.
Who usually cooks?
Valkyrie. She's the only one who eats, and she'd just feel weird asking Skulduggery to make her anything more than a cup of tea or coffee. Although Skulduggery will get her food unasked when he knows she's too tried to do it herself (usually takeaway, but he's made toast and heated up cans of soup quite a few times).
Who is more inclined to be jealous or possessive?
Valkyrie.
Skulduggery's more or less fine with Valkyrie having romantic/sexual partners because: 1) She's a adult who can make her own decisions, 2) He wants her to be happy no matter who's it's with,  3) Her having a romantic/sexual partner in no way diminishes what they have, and 4) It won't last long.
Valkyrie, on the other hand, would get very jealous very fast if Skulduggery flirted with anyone besides her. While she's fine with his past relationships, she would not react well to a new romantic partner - she wants to be the most important person in his life, and damn anyone who comes between them.
How do they resolve their arguments?  They resolve themselves, mostly. Neither Valkyrie nor Skulduggery like to apologise, so it's easier for them to let arguments fizzle out. They're aware they've both got massive egos, so if one of them back off or changes their opinion, they accept that as a kind of apology that saves face. But if someone does apologise it's usually Skulduggery, because  while he's  aware that Valkyrie can forgive him for a lot of things, there's still this underlying fear that she will leave if he pushes too much. Valkyrie's in the position where she knows Skulduggery will forgive her for anything, no matter what she does, so she rarely apologises directly.
Who has the most nightmares and how do they deal with them?
Valkyrie, because she's the only one who sleeps. If she wakes up from a nightmare she usually calls Skulduggery or goes downstairs (when she's staying over) for a chat, to try and distract herself from it. If she's having a nightmare and Skulduggery's around (usually because she's fallen asleep on a sofa or in the car) he'll wake her up if it's severe enough. But if it's not too severe he talks or sings to her in a gentle voice instead.
While Skulduggery doesn't have nightmares, he sometimes has flashbacks. Valkyrie usually tries to help by talking softly and reminding him where he is. If she thinks he might have a flashback, or if he's recovering from one, she might also touch him to reassure him she's there. But she tries not to touch him if he's in the middle of a flashback because it tends to agitate him even more.
Who pays for the food the most, when they go out?
Skulduggery. Valkyrie got into the habit of letting Skulduggery pay for everything when she was young, and didn’t have access to her inheritance, and she never grew out of it. It's literally never occurred to her that maybe she should offer to pay for things when they're together. Skulduggery doesn't mind though.
Do they enjoy dancing?
Yes. Skulduggery's enjoyed ballroom dancing for centuries. Valkyrie enjoyed leaning capoeira as part of her combat training (which isn’t quiet dancing, but there are a lot of similarities) and occasionally dancing at clubs. But they don't start dancing together until they 2021. Skulduggery offers to teach Valkyrie how to waltz in preparation for the Requiem Ball. And they enjoy it so much he ends up teaching her how to foxtrot, then swing, then tango, etc. They end up dancing at a lot of functions and in private after that. The tango ends up being both of their favourites because of the energy and the passion.
Do they ever trade clothes?
No*. Skulduggery is a skeleton who wears carefully tailored clothes and Valkyrie is muscular woman whose biceps would split any shirt of his she tried to put on. And Skulduggery won't be caught dead in anything that wasn't custom made for him, because he's vain AF.
*The only exceptions are the ones in canon when Skulduggery's had to drape a jacket over Valkyrie to preserve her modesty or she's wearing his hat.
What do they do when they're bored and together?
They like to talk about everything and anything. They watch movies, play games on their phones, and share music. Sometimes they'll practice magic or fighting or dancing together. And sometimes they just like to do their own thing in the same space - Valkyrie will read a book and Skulduggery will do a crossword.
What is their ideal vacation?
Valkyrie says her ideal vacation would be lazying around on a beach, but to be honest she'd get restless after a few days and want to try surfing or sightseeing. And then she'd get bored of that after a few more days and start looking for some real adventure.
Skulduggery's ideal vacation would be taking a case in a cultured city (Paris, Rome, Prague...) that's stimulating but where he still gets to spend a lot of quality time with Valkyrie and they come away mystery solved with no injuries.
What do they do after a hard day at work?
Chances are a hard day of work for them involves some form of injury. So it's usually spent waiting for each other in a medical bay or patching each other up at home or in a hotel room. There's usually a lot of thoughtful gestures - Skulduggery will make Valkyrie hot drinks, cover her with a blanket if she falls asleep, etc. Valkyrie will hug Skulduggery, squeeze his hand, or rest her head on his chest. They're both reassure each other verbally if they needed, to make sure the other is okay and feels loved/cared for.
Do they attend any clubs or formal parties together?
I don't know if this means clubs like night clubs or clubs like rotary clubs, but either way the answer is no, unless they had to for a case.
They regularly attend Sanctuary functions and mage parties together, however. They both grumble about that part of their job, but secretly rather enjoy spending the night dressed up on each other's arm making fun of the other guests. For Skulduggery especially, it's nice to go as a couple, because he spent so many decades attending them on his own (he could only occasionally convince Ghaslty to be his plus one, and only occasionally convince mage hosts to let Gordon be his plus one).
How do they spend time if the other is gone?
Skulduggery tries to keep busy with work, there’s usually paperwork or unsolved files her can work though. He tries not to bother Valkyrie (unless it’s an emergency or she contacts him first) when he knows she wants to spend time with her family, but he’s mentally keeping a list of ‘things to tell Valkyrie next time we talk’.
Valkyrie spends time with her family, takes Xena for walks, catches up on some reading, and works out when she feels up to it. She also spends a lot of time moping around her house, doing nothing in particular. Unless she’s busy with her family or in a bad mood, she’s sending Skulduggery funny texts every five minutes.
Do they have a favourite video game they enjoy playing together?
The only video games they tend to play are the apps on their phone and they can play them in the Bentley while on a stakeout. Skulduggery's favourite is Words With Friends, because it's easy to understand the point of it, he can show off, and he usually wins. He also likes the ones that remind him of old card/board games like Poker and Chess.
Valkyrie's favourite is Draw Something because they get to make fun of each other's terrible drawing skills. She also likes racing games and Fruit Ninja because she's better at them then Skulduggery is.
Also I can imagine a Valkyrie thrusting an old 3DS (with some Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton games instated on it) into Skulduggery arms with a 'here I thought you might like this'. And Skulduggery's not really sure what to do with it, so it ends up in drawer in his house, sitting untouched for a while, until Valkyrie's away for a long weekend (or even in Meek Ridge). And then Skulduggery remembers it, and decides he decides to see what the fuss is about... and he likes it. Not because it's entertaining or stimulating, but because it's this happy little thing his best friend gave him because she was thinking of him.
Thoughts on PDA (Public Displays of Affection)?
They don’t kiss, or do any of this big romantic gestures in public, but there’s a lot of casual touching when they’re not thinking about it. She grabs his hand to pull him along,he guides her with a hand on the small her back, she links her arm through his, he brushes a stay strand of hair from her face... that kind of thing. The frequency of which has led to a lot of gossip in the magical community as to what the nature of their relationship actually is.
Thoughts on each other's friends?
Valkyrie's liked every one of Skulduggery's friends. He's (generally) a good judge of character and his friends tend to call him out on his BS so Valkyrie instantly likes them, and they tend to like her for the same reason.
Skulduggery isn't as keen on Valkyrie's choice of friends. He'd never admit it to her, but he thinks she makes friends too easily. He'll acknowledge that some of them (Fletcher, Tanith) are good reliable people, but he needs to know someone for a long time before he can actually call them a friend. And sometimes she's make friends with dangerous people (Caelan, China, Solomon) and he worries about how much she trusts them.
Would they ever get married?
I go back and forth on this one.
Sometimes I think Skulduggery won't be able to remarry. He spent so long thinking his sole purpose/the reason for his continued existence was to avenge the death of his wife and child, and to remarry would be an insult to that. And then there's the fear that marriage would leave him vulnerable. He (along with everybody in the magical community, tbh) is aware that Valkyrie's death would destroy him emotionally, but as long as they aren't married he can pretend he could cope with it.
But then Skulduggery's also pretty old-fashioned when it comes down to it. And I think he’d like the idea of ebing a husband again. There's this newness to him since he met Valkyrie/Serpine was killed - he accepts that he's a different person now. So if he got married again it would be a part of his new life, and have nothing to do with the old.
I think Valkyrie would be okay whether they got married or not. She already knows that their lives revolve on each other. And she knows that they're as devoted to each other as two people can be. So whether there is a ring involved is irrelevant. She'd say yes if Skulduggery proposed (I mean, assuming they'd been romantic for a few decades) because she'd know how much it would mean to him. But overall Valkyrie's comfortable with the way things are. She wouldn't go out of her way to change things. So for that reason I don't think she would do the proposing.
If they did get married there wouldn't be a big white wedding (because that would be asking for trouble, and who would they invite anyway?). It would just be the bare minimum: a government official, two witnesses, some paperwork... they probably won't even dress up for the occasion. He'd give her a signet ring with his family crest on it - which is the only real outward change n their relationship. Valkyrie would still be addressed as Detective Cain (and occasionally Ms. Cain, but never Mrs. Pleasant). They don't ever announce their marriage to the public - rumours about a secret wedding spread, but nobody but their friends ever get a straight answer.
[As a an addendum: I think both Valkyrie and Skulduggery would be reluctant to label their relationship (beyond anything but 'partners') for a long time. They'd probably never use words like 'girlfriend' or 'boyfriend' or 'dating' or 'exclusive' even if it resembled those words, because labelling their relationship would mean acknowledging what a mess it is and neither of them want to go into that].
Thoughts on kids?
(I have a plan to write a fic where Skulduggery and Valkyrie discus this, but it's at the bottom of a big pile of fics to be written)
Skulduggery has long since accepted that he'll never have kids, but even if he could, the thought of being a father again fills him with dread. It would feel like a betrayal to his first child and wife. And he'd be living with the constant fear that something could happen to them at anytime. Yet at the same time, being a father was one of the best experiences of his life, and he sometimes gets a bit wistful for it.
Valkyrie hasn't really thought of having kids of her own. If someone mentions it she brushes it off with an 'I'm too young to think about that' (well into her two-hundreds). But when she is forced to really sit down and think she starts to panic. She knows having kids would be disastrous with her lifestyle. And deep down she has a fear that she would hurt them, like she hurt Alice. She loves spending time with other people's kids though, and if she ever got nieces or nephews she'd tried to emulate her Uncle Gordon and be the eccentric relative who lives in the big creepy mansion and gives expensive gifts from far away places.
I think Skulduggery's infertility would put him off starting a romantic relationship with Valkyrie. He knows she doesn't want a family, but he still feels that if they started a romantic relationship, he'd be taking away her choice to have a family. I.E. She won't have kids because they couldn't and not because she doesn't want to. Valkyrie thinks that's ridiculous, and points out there are other ways she could have a kid if she did want one.
Thoughts on each other's family? What does each other's family think about them?
Valkyrie doesn't have much of an opinion on Skulduggery family, for obvious reasons, but she's always interested in hearing about then when Skulduggery's willing to share.
Skulduggery thinks Valkyrie's (immediate) family are nice people. He appreciates that they just want their daughters to be happy and healthy. But his relationship with them is tense. Melissa loathes him - she blames him for Valkyrie's breakdown and can't forgive him for dragging them all into this mess. She's already uncomfortable with the idea of Valkyrie's friendship with Skulduggery (and her involvement with magic in general) and if their relationship went any further she'd flip out. Desmond has mixed feelings. To him Skulduggery is a symbol of magic, and magic is full of awe and wonder. So he can understand why Valkyrie wants to be a part of that (and he thinks it's pretty amazing that she is). He supports Valkyrie's lifestyle choices, including her choice to be with Skulduggery, more than Melissa. But he understand why Melissa is upset, because deep down he's worried about his daughter too.

really ridiculously detailed character stats.
Tumblr media
FULL NAME: Bonbon Rosalia Charbonneau NICKNAME(S): Bunny, Bon, Rosie, Xiuying (mother only). AGE: 19 - 21, verse dependent. MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE: ENTJ BIRTH DATE: December 5th. ETHNICITY: While Ethnicity is a messy case ( having stolen it from humans past, of course ), Bonbon would be essentially Chinese, with an unknown other half ( he has claimed French as his own for quite some time ) on the part of her father. Her mother hails from there, and the nation she was born in was a fragment of the now destroyed human country, China. The French aspect, adopted by her father, is all she knows. PLACE OF BIRTH: While her father insists she was born in Inkopolis, she was technically born on their returning trip back from a neighboring Inkling country --- Wūhanzéi. GENDER IDENTITY: Cisgender female. PREFERRED PRONOUN(S): She/Her. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Pansexual. RELIGION: Believes in the Great Fax Machine. OCCUPATION: The lead pop-star of a musical light show performance, Inkaesthesia. FACE CLAIM: I draw her! But for another verse, I use Allura from Voltron.
Relationships
PARENTS: She’s definitely daddy’s little girl. Her relationship with her mother, albeit improved over time, is still mostly on a seldom basis --- when she feels kind enough to reach out. Despite Celeste’s best efforts, Bon still seems to hold a ( misguided ) grudge.  SIBLINGS: None. SIGNIFICANT OTHER(S): She’s gentle and doting, as she is with anyone else. A needy attention whore, to say the very least --- you’ll know damn well when she’s feeling affectionate, considering she ( quite literally ) sticks to you.  CHILDREN: None, presently. LEVEL OF SEXUAL EXPERIENCE: She’s not a master at it, but she’s had sex before. At this point, she’s not particularly adventurous, but she’s no qualms ( granted you won’t catch me roleplaying it anymore ha ha fml ). STORY OF FIRST KISS: Does it count if she grabbed them by the collar, yanked them down to her height, and held their lips there for the longest time? Movies made it seem so romantic --- she couldn’t help but do the same. A shame that their back probably hurt after the fact. A SOCIAL PERSON? From time to time. There are other moments where she’d rather be on her own, reading a good book in the peaceful solitude of her own home. HOW DO THEY THINK OTHERS PERCEIVE THEM? She’s come to grow into a sense of greater self-esteem. Knowing that she is an idol, and thus a role-model to many, she places upon her persona a better outlook for those to look up to. As a result, she thinks she is within good graces with the community ( at least, those who she has not wronged in the past ). HOW DO OTHERS ACTUALLY PERCEIVE THEM? As a result, she is indeed treated with returned kindness. It is not without fault, however --- those who have yet to forgive her make their perpetual disdain known. It is with grace that she accepts it --- provided it never interferes with her day-to-day life. She isn’t above sabotage, even though her more brutish ways are long gone.
Physical Traits
EYE COLOR(S): Lilac. Her pupils are stars. HAIR COLOR(S): Pastel pink ink, gradient to lilac. HEIGHT: 4′0″ at her ( unfortunate ) max height. WEIGHT: 69 lbs. ;^) BODY BUILD: A very bottom-heavy pear. Thick, toned legs. Her arms boast some muscle, but most of it belongs to her legs. GLASSES? CONTACTS? She wears them purely for aesthetic ( and reading small text ). STYLE OF DRESS/TYPICAL OUTFITS: You’ll often find her in flowy attire, things that trail behind her, or poof outwards --- lolita-style, so to speak. She has an air of grace around the things she wears, loving to be fashionably jarring from time to time. One day, she’ll wear pretty pastels, fluffed out dresses, all lavish with ribbons and bows. The next, she’ll wear a slim-fitting tuxedo, tails flapping behind her ( and those days are, of course, the worst for those who find themselves enthralled by plump lower halves ). Most commonly, she’ll wear things that accent her growing collection of bio-luminescent freckles. JEWELRY? TATTOOS? PIERCINGS? There isn’t much fondness for things that rest on her skin, so despite being the type to be ridiculously fancy, she wears little jewelry. Tattoos are also by and far pointless for her --- considering her body naturally grows a “type” of their own. Piercings, however, mostly extend to a simple earring on her right ear, one that makes a jingle as she turns her head. ATHLETIC? Very. Despite having others to guard her, Bon’s activity has not ebbed. She still practices Capoeira --- both on her performing stage and in her spare time --- and strengthens her lower body. Her arms are toned, but by comparison, the power remains honed in her legs. The Dapple Dualies, too, are a method of exercise, for the power of jet propulsion must be assisted by body as well. HOW DO THEY WALK: Contrary to popular belief, the way she walks is merely an imitation. She once saw a girl’s sashay, the way she rhythmically crossed her legs, strutting in heels... and mimicked it for her own. Her hips push from side to side, her tentacles swaying like a pendulum behind her. Her heels dance around one another as her careful catwalk cuts her a path. Despite the air of debonair and confidence, she still finds herself to be sheepish when it comes to attracting the attention of others unintentionally. HOW DO THEY SMELL LIKE: Roses. Honey. Cinnamon. Tea. All things she loves to consume --- the roses included. Not the healthiest diet, but she definitely leaves a wonderful wafting scent about the room. WHAT’S THEIR POSTURE LIKE? She holds herself high, straight, but no longer stiff. Her hands, either resting upon her thighs or ensnared behind her back, are bound solely to keep them from flying wildly as she gestures. It’s frequent that you’ll find her swaying, ( unfortunately ) shaking wide hips from side to side. In reality, while she attempts to pose herself like a goddess, she is a bouncy mother fucker. In private, she slouches, throwing her legs up and kicking back. You can easily find her in an array of confusing poses, like the cat she truly is. It purely depends on her closeness with you as a friend to determine which you’ll get.
Phobias and Diseases
PHOBIA(S): Thalassophobia, monophobia, athazagoraphobia, and sedatephobia. MENTAL DISEASE(S): Synaesthesia, Autism, Generalized Anxiety Disorder. PHYSICAL DISEASE(S): None. WHEN WAS THIS DIAGNOSED? The unfamiliar strain of the former was discovered at birth, while the latter two are unknown. Through healthier methods and lifestyles, it matters less than it did in her childhood.
Intellect
LEVEL OF EDUCATION: College graduate. LEVEL OF SELF-ESTEEM: Knowing that she is a role-model and favorite to many, she has created a persona that holds itself with extreme dignity and pride. In reality, she is a self-critical and fidgety being. Ultimately, it balances out --- she is of high self-esteem more often than not --- but she is not immune to moments of weakness. GIFTS/TALENTS: Song, dance, and a literal Killer Wail for a voice. She’s also harboring a brain that can recollect numbers and advanced vocabulary with ease. SHORTCOMINGS: Socially inept, occasionally unable to decipher communicative cues, morally grey.  STYLE OF SPEECH: As a result of witnessing the carnage she can cause with a raised voice, Bonbon becomes very soft-spoken. Her voice is like a lilt, a harmonious meld of crescendos and intentional pauses. She treats speaking like a song intentionally --- when bored, or disinterested, the monotony she holds is ridiculously noticeable. This way, she can keep herself entertained throughout the conversation, without the need of it being something she’s intrigued by.  “LEFT BRAIN” OR “RIGHT BRAIN” THINKER: Right brain, for sure. ARTISTIC? Very! She writes her own songs and designs her own dances. MATHEMATICAL? She’s definitely got a penchant for numbers. MAKES DECISIONS BASED MOSTLY ON EMOTIONS, OR ON LOGIC? Emotions. She likes to pretend to be logical, but she’s all about following her heart, now. MOST SENSITIVE ABOUT/VULNERABLE TO: Her ears. Her voice. OPTIMIST OR PESSIMIST? Optimist! EXTROVERT OR INTROVERT? Ambivert! It really depends on how she’s feeling and/or who she’s with. You’ll find that she’s ( somehow ) more extroverted, though.
Details/Quirks
NIGHT OWL OR EARLY BIRD? Night owl. LIGHT OR HEAVY SLEEPER? Heavy sleeper. FAVORITE FOOD: Soft things! Chewy things! She loves the sensation. LEAST FAVORITE FOOD: Yogurt and eggs. The latter much more than the former. COFFEE OR TEA? CATCH HER DRINKING TEA LIKE LIFE FUEL. CRUNCHY OR SMOOTH PEANUT BUTTER? Smooth! She loves to lick the spoon. LEFTY OR RIGHTY? Righty! FAVORITE COLOR? Pastels of any kind! CUSSER? HAHAHA--no. SMOKER? DRINKER? DRUG USER? Nope, na uh, zero. PETS? Her fiance keeps trying to avoid getting one. :c

SNK OC profile (this is hella long, let me tell you now)
Thanks to @misa-misa-chi for giving me the link for this template: https://alicecantbestopped.deviantart.com/art/Attack-On-Titan-Blank-OC-Sheet-400915409.
It’s mad detailed and kinda forces you to think hard about who your oc is (kinda). So here’s mine-it’s by no means complete but whilst giving away as little as possible, i think there’s enough to get an idea about Nina’s character:
Name: Nina Were Meaning: Strong, graceful dreamer (not much of one, tho) Age: Almost 20 Gender: Female Birthday: 17th May Birthplace: Base metropolis, somewhere in the southern region of the Alpha-continent. Relationship Status: Single af (she is not good at relationships) Language(s) spoken: au variations of eight European languages, few words of au Japanese and her own native tongue Life-Long Dream: To build a plane and fly off the continent/ around the world Goal(s): Stay alive and get out Like(s): Sleeping, flying, milk, horses, machinery, rain and water in general           Dislike(s): Secrecy/ Deceit, Liars, people who don’t value what they have, the cold, arrogance, black tea, unneeded self-exertion, being talked down to, being touched,                                                                                                            Bad Habit(s): Endless sleeping, eating without chewing, skiving, tunes out a lot, will ignore you completely if she becomes mentally preoccupied/she thinks you’re talking rubbish, chews and gnaws on things to ward off hunger (even when there’s no need), walking around barefoot, popping her joints in and out. Hobbies: tinkering, drawing, cloud-watching, agriculture Fear(s): not knowing what’s going on, people suffering because of her, weakness Personality: (ISTP) seems quiet and unassuming but is in reality brash and upbeat. She can be very blunt and untactful but has an uncanny understanding of people once she gets talking with them. Is actually quite thoughtful and can pick up on true intentions and character very quickly. Has a quick and terrible temper-has a very short fuse except with people she knows well. Even though she gets on with most, she isn’t particularly sociable and keeps to herself mostly. Highly independent and doesn’t respond well to authority-doesn’t like following orders without good reason. Very impulsive, entirely self-driven and can be hard-headed. Is neither a team-player nor a leader-wouldn’t call her a lone wolf either. She’s like a delinquent? Prone to being wild and takes crazy risks. Cannot turn down a challenge. She relies heavily on her own instincts but will listen to and evaluate advice for herself if she thinks the giver has good enough wits. Surprisingly cynical and in rare moments is a real downer-slightly pessimistic.

Her cousin taught her a coping mechanism-‘the box’ where she shuts unwanted memories away. Sight (do you need glasses?): the opposite-vision is perfect and can see fairly well in the dark Mental (Any problems? Example: depression): Has bouts of confusion and withdrawal when she gets flashbacks of her past life. Physical (Do you take care of your body or harm it? Often falls asleep when she’s bored/ in the middle of training and other odd times which she can’t explain Allergies/Other: Nope
Abilities/Statistics (1- lowly skilled, 10- highly skilled and tell why) This is going to be hard-Nina’s performance really doesn’t fit into categories this easily. It also depends if she’s using her sword or using the standard two blades of the 3Dmg 3D Manoeuvring Gear: 8 once she got the hang of it Intelligence: 8-she has high awareness and knows what needs to be done almost instantly but often doesn’t use everything she gleans from a situation. Also doesn’t think of the bigger picture until a bit later. In terms of book work-if she wants to get something, she won’t stop until she’s an expert in that field. Not a classroom learner and isn’t bookish Martial Arts: 9-weak points are like magnets to her and she exploits the hell out of them. Fighting style is similar to Capoeira and good old street brawl. she tires easily though and aims to end fights quickly. Battle Skill: 10-she was top pre-combatant back home (I would say more but spoilers). Excels at ground and internal combat.(this is when using her sword-she is much less proficient with two, smaller blades about a 7) Agility: 8-10 (in terms of flexibility it’s gold, reflexes are sharp too) Strategy: 5-8 depending on her mind-set in the moment. Teamwork: 1 atm (she is awful, absolutely terrible with teamwork-been like this from childhood. I don’t know how to describe this-it isn’t arrogance or just foolhardiness-she’s really that impulsive and can’t think outside her own field of combat- it’s just a part of who she is.) Passion: this can be rock-bottom or 7ish- again depends on her motivation at the time. (she’s not passionate persay-dealing with titans is very matter of fact to her-get rid of them so you can get out) Affiliation: hmm…I sense spoilers Former Affiliation: Base Hunter Status (Alive, Missing, etc.): She alive
Relationships- Parent(s): Maxim Were and Nyo Alam Sibling(s): None Other Relative(s): Cousin-Lindia Were fn Love Interest: LOL Best Friend(s): Isach Hosef and Kiito Wep Friend(s): Nor and Kago Enemy(ies): no one rn (sometimes the whole world) Hero(es): nu-uh, she’s not idealistic like that but she did admire her father Rival(s):we shall see

Tekken is a seminal entry in the pantheon of early 3D fighting games, and one of the only series still running, alongside Virtua Fighter and the somewhat newer Soul Calibur. While other fighters opted for a six-button setup using light, medium, and fierce punches and kicks respectively (like Street Fighter), or a four button strength-based system (like The King of Fighters), Tekken used a limb-based system, where buttons corresponded to left punch, right punch, left kick, right kick.
The early days of 3D in games are intriguing, to say the least, as companies scrimped and saved every bit and byte, while trying to deliver the maximum visual bang for their buck. As Capcom and Namco prepare to release separate Street Fighter/Tekken mashups, we spoke with Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada, who has been there since the series' inception, about the origins of Tekken's systems, its unique aesthetic, and its nearly nonsensical story.
In the original Tekken, what was the thinking behind a "four limb"-based button system as opposed to a strength and intensity-based one?
Well, before Tekken, at the time Namco had been conducting a lot of R&D into polygon-based graphics, and the consensus we had was that true-to-life animation was going to become a huge aspect of game graphics going into the future. That turned out to be very true, of course. The limb-based control scheme sort of grew from that, but the scheme also felt really good for a fighter -- you could execute these one-two punch combos really quickly and intuitively.
Right, the R&D was a big deal - when I talked with Yu Suzuki a few months ago, he talked about how in those early days everyone was in this race to create the most realistic 3D graphics possible. Was the extra complexity a part of the decision, too -- having four buttons instead of the three that Virtua Fighter had? [Virtua Fighter was a year old in 1994 when Tekken was released, and only had punch, kick, and block.]
Certainly we were constantly aiming to improve ourselves, trying to avoid doing things that were already done before. One thing with VF was that the action your character took depended on which side he was facing -- his moves were flipped depending on whether he was facing left or right. Including all the animation data to make that function is a ton of work, and required what, at the time, was a lot of data. The control system for the first Tekken was an attempt to avoid that requirement and just execute the same moves no matter which side the fighter's facing -- that, in turn, freed up more storage space for things like extra characters and moves.
Most previous fighters were working along the lines of light/medium/fierce -- both in movement and in thought process. What was the thinking behind moving away from that?
I think the light/medium/fierce system is a pretty good way to represent fighting in a video game, but it's hard to define which moves go into which "level" of force. It gets even harder with certain fighting styles, because how can you define what a "weak" sumo or capoeira move is? That's why we concluded that the light/medium/fierce system wasn't really appropriate for a game trying to encompass a really large variety of martial arts like what we were aiming for.
Where do you draw the line between fantasy and reality? To some degree you're going for realism, but flash is important too. Capoeira, for example, would not really be a powerful style to use in fights like this, but it looks super cool.
We certainly realize that "realism," as defined within the bounds of this game, can be a very different thing from what would happen in real life. Rocky, for example, is a film that a lot of people liked -- but that was a work of fiction, and real-life boxers would never use really flashy moves like that in an actual match. It's not "real" realism so much as "wouldn't it be nice if things were like this" realism. That's what we aim for here, this manga or movie-like atmosphere that has impact upon the observer. We try to portray what people expect of the reality they see within games.
You have to build in those kind of dramatic moments -- having the final hit replayed at the end of the match, and so on.
Right.
I feel Tekken has its own universe of physics, definitely different from reality, and from other games, as well. You punch someone and they're immediately off their feet and horizontal, or flip around in the air and so on. How did you come up with this type of physicality?
That flipping around in the air thing is actually something that I devote a lot of close attention to. We want that manga-like atmosphere, to recreate the wide range of expression possible in manga. There's an older manga called Ashita no Joe, and that's one I draw a lot from.
Was it part of the plan to make getting hit as dramatic as hitting, so to speak?
Definitely. You want it to feel as dramatic and exciting as possible for the person attacking, to make him feel like "Yes!" when he lands something.
Going back to animation, I talked with Yoshinori Ono from Capcom about this -- in a fighting game, speed is one of the most important things. When a player hits a button, they need that impact immediately. Disney animation emphasizes the setup over the impact, but fighting games have to take the opposite approach. There's this delicate balance between finishing animations and making sure moves come out on time. Tekken seems to animate a bit more and for longer than other series, so I wanted your take on the button-to-move gap.
The Tekken series treats both the feeling of speed and the feeling of exhilaration seriously, which is part of why you can throw people into the air so easily -- it feels lighter than it should, and it's fun. Another thing we treat importantly, though, is the feeling of weight which the attacks give off.
That goes back to what I said about taking damage -- the animation's done up to make that feel powerful, and emphasizing a certain fluidity to the animation contributes to that feeling of weight or power, like you're really winding up your kicks and other techniques. Tekken doesn't have much of a frame buffer between button presses and onscreen attacks, but we try to use what we have to create that feeling as much as possible. It's a balance, like you say.
As a fighting series progresses, additional complexity kind of gets layered in. New players coming to Tekken might be intimidated. How do you address this? Street Fighter IV did a good job with trials and bringing people back, and the Arcade Edition has a little achievement-style crawl like King of Fighters 13. Even with that, though, it's very hard if you don't know the basic inputs.
That's an important topic for any fighting game. You can have a practice mode that really goes in depth and strives to help players improve, but what we've found is that a lot of players never even touch practice modes. It's worth noting that when the fighter genre first hit arcades, there weren't any real tutorials. Instead, the designers tweaked the difficulty level such that after a couple of credits, you had already gone from beginner to intermediate player -- something you could then improve upon by learning more moves and practicing.
That's the ideal that any fighter should go for, and funnily enough, although a lot of people complain that Tekken is too hard to pick up, a lot of other people say that it's too easy for beginners to enter the game and beat people by mashing buttons!
Personally, I don't see that as such a bad thing if it gets more people into the series, gets them curious about it. Another idea is to have an online mode where players can just beat on each other without any life gauges, chatting each other while learning the moves. There are lots of things like that we'd like to try.
Here's a tough one. Tekken has a very complicated story. Can you summarize it within 30 seconds or less?
Ooh, that's hard! (laughs) Basically, there're these three generations of father and son that don't get along, and two of them have this Devil Gene, so their dad wants to know what the Devil Gene is, and so they argue with each other about it for a bunch of years. All the other characters just sort of get caught up in it.
