Oh my god they were narrative foils
#i need someone to read Mogworld then read the JMK books then get back to me#i need need need to talk about how Jim would literally rather be the villainess than a hero#how his pattern of self-sabotaging behavior continues to fuck up the people around him#how he will literally achieve more success than any other author in the galaxy#and he would still view his life as worthless#LIKE. OH WOW LOOK AT THE CHOICES HE MADE#versus Jacques McKeown who has been nothing but a hero#who has never let himself mentally hit rock bottom#who refused to be anything but the kindest person in the room#whose first instinct is to give an inspiring speech when all the chips are down#of course Jim would want to kill him! A guy like that cant exist in Jim's world#'jacques mckeown' was supposed to be a stupid insane ideal! Not a real person!#and then when Jim has the chance to like. be a protagonist. be a hero alongside his creation#he dips. he tries to kill himself AGAIN#like! god!#THEYRE NARRATIVE FOILS OKAY????
