Blue Box Episode 5 Review - Aquarium Date, Let's Go!
Romance stories can be so cruel at times. When you like the second lead, but know they’re on the losing spectrum, it makes you sad. That’s how Hina made me feel. She’s a great character, but definitely on the losing end here. It sucks because I find Taiki and Chinatsu so cute together, especially with the aquarium date, but Hina’s not gonna get anything…

The majority of this episode is about Taiki and Chinatsu’s aquarium date. I think out of all the aquarium dates I’ve seen in anime so far, this one has been animated really nicely. I love the water’s reflection is seen in some shots it gives off a magical and romantic feel in a way. While Taiki has been conscious of Chinatsu’s intentions of asking him out to the aquarium, it’s revealed that she mainly did it because she was apologetic for what she had said before, about how he didn’t need to work hard because he still has two more years. Taiki initially thought she was going to confess to him, so their wavelengths aren’t matching with each other just yet. However, I do feel like Chinatsu is into Taiki.

It’s very apparent when Hina shows up at the second half of the episode where she sees Chinatsu at the same sports physical therapy clinic she goes to. She tries to put Taiki in a good light in front of her, but given Chinatsu’s behavior, it seems that it only makes more misunderstandings as she probably thinks Hina is into him. I think Hina is also into him too as in the beginning of the episode, she did see Chinatsu texting Taiki and then when thinking about their progress, a classmate tells her she looks upset. The scene at the end of the episode with Hina crouching under the umbrella in front of the gates of Taiki’s house sort of proves her crush. I do wonder when it came to be. Has she always had a crush on him or was it something she realized once Chinatsu started becoming a bigger part of Taiki’s life?

Regarding the badminton portion of the episode, Taiki’s match with Kishi concludes with the former as the victor. Fortunately, Kishi is a good sport about the loss. Unfortunately for Taiki, he lost to Nishida in the finals and got second place. I wish I could’ve seen that match… Now, Taiki is going to train for prefectural qualifiers and that a big named school could be participating, making them Taiki’s goal to overcome them. Overall, for the badminton, there’s buildup for what Taiki’s next objective is.

Speaking of Nishida, why is it that there are so many Wind Breaker voice actors in this show? Nishida’s voice actor is Shogo Sakamoto, who also voices Anzai in Wind Breaker. This means that all of the important male characters in the story have been in WB as well. The only question I have is: who’s next?

Seeing the last shot of Hina in the rain reminded of that sad Vegeta gif of him in the rain. Gosh, poor Hina. Your only curse is that you’re in Shounen Jump and have pink hair. That totally means you’re not going to be with the MC. I do wonder if Hina will get together with Kyo or if she’ll just be that one single person in a crowd of couples for the rest of the story. What do you think about the episode?
