The Masked Singer Season 3 Episode 14: The Quarter Finals (Commentary & Guesses)

Hello fellow Masked Singer fans! It’s that time of the week aka Ana’s Masked Singer recap time, with your typing host Ana, because nobody else will do it for me haha. We are truly getting down to the wire with only 5 masked contestants left (well 4 after we are done here with this recap lol). So, again, we will be honoring the judges with some trophy emojis because they are getting there and I am kind of shook, but this time I am also gonna give the judge with the worst guess ever a poop emoji because it was a horrible guess. Yes, I am having too much fun with this, let me enjoy my moment. I think I am gonna call the segment “Panel Spotlight.” Ok, so having said that, let’s get started! (Disclaimer: Spoilers ahead, proceed with caution.. don’t say I didn’t warn you)

Alright, so let’s start with the elimination/mask coming in 5th place was:

THE KITTY 

Ok, so this one was also pretty upsetting, but at this point I knew this was going to happen even though I was hoping Rhino would go home instead. The only person I am like really routing for is Turtle at this point (I also really miss Astronaut so I am still sad over that elimination) so whatever I guess. However, I don’t think she should��ve gone home. Her performance of Back to Black by Amy Winehouse was really great, even though it wasn’t her best performance. Anyways, I did know who she was ever since the Super 9 and I was sure... 

Having said that, Kitty was revealed to be...

JACKIE EVANCHO

Alright so yay the Internet convinced me and I got it because of them, thank you Internet! I kinda love you... sometimes. Anyways, if you don’t know who Jackie is, she was on America’s Got Talent when she was 10 as an opera singer and became one of the most successful & youngest platinum musicians ever. Now, she’s almost 20 which is insane and 10 years later full circle moment with Nick Cannon. Anyways, she really killed it as the Kitty, singing not just opera but all types of genres and killing it. Wow, yup, her voice is insane, we are the same age and she is so freaking talented, I can't even. I am so excited to see what the future holds for her. Anyways, here are the new clues that made sense for it to be her:

Clue package, traveling through St.Petersburg, Japan, the Vatican, etc. = all places Jackie has performed 

Somewhere over the rainbow= performed it on Oprah’s TV special in 2011

After Performance clue this time was a “borrowed package.” Hers contained a Bow & Arrow= she is a talented archer as well as singer (this is news to me but I looked it up)

Now time for the PANEL SPOTLIGHT: 

Nobody got the 🏆 because the judges were so clueless.

However, the worst guess aka the 💩 was the guest judge, comedian Jeff Dye, who said “one of those Olsen twins.” I gave it to him because he couldn’t even distinguish which one & the Olsen twins don’t make sense with all of these clues. 

Alright, now we have our top 4 contestants, woo hoo! These are our semi-finalists, my guesses, and commentary, let’s do this: 

1. The Frog 

Performance: Yeah, I’m sorry, I just am not a big fan of Frog. He switched up last week and it was better than his normal stuff, but he just reverted to the same thing again and it’s getting annoying. This time, he performed Bust a Move by Young MC. 

Guess: Bow Wow 

Clue package, calling his “little frog” = he has a 9 year old daughter 

French Bread on the ground = he has a song named Long Bread

Falcon Figure= Atlanta Falcons (where he lives & he is a fan of them) 

Borrowed Package= Model Airplane= The Bow Wow Challenge from 2017 when he faked going on a private jet & was caught in a normal airplane and a challenge was born on the Internet about this

Now time for the PANEL SPOTLIGHT:

Yay! Robin Thicke caught on! He gets the 🏆 for guessing Bow Wow. 

On the other hand, the worst guess aka the 💩 was of course Mr. Ken Jeong, who guessed Derek Hough?! What?! His logic for that guess was way off and Derek Hough cannot rap like that (but it would be cool for Derek to be on the show tho) 

2. The Rhino 

Performance: Ok, so he sang “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling” by the Righteous Bros and it was impressive. This is another one of his best performances. It was a very romantic version of this song and he played into the romance. Also, you could hear some rasp to his voice that shows some versatility, I really really enjoyed this one wow. I think I might have been underestimating Rhino’s performance ability. 

Guess: Barry Zito 

In the package, he said that he had struggles before meeting his wife= he was a bad boy in baseball & his wife straightened him out to be a man of faith. 

3 little elephants’ picture= reference to his 3 kids 

Turkey hand drawing= has his own Red Turkey baseball card

Borrowed Package= Navy Hat= he was in a 2003 episode of JAG playing a Navy officer & him/his wife have a charity to donate to the military

Now time for the PANEL SPOTLIGHT:

Ok so this one is gonna be surprising because nobody said it but somebody was close. Surprisingly, Ken was close so I am going to give him the 🏆 for mentioning JAG when seeing the Navy hat clue, so let’s give him some kudos there.

Tbh, none of the guesses were absolute 💩 so we are going to skip this one for the Rhino. 

3. Night Angel 

Performance: Ok, so not a fan of the Night Angel either (she is way too inconsistent for my liking), but this was probably one of her best performances so far, if not her best performance. She sang “Last Dance” by Donna Summer and the song choice was perfect for her voice. I really liked this performance too, wow this episode is actually pretty good performance wise (except for Frog, but whatever) 

Guess: Kandi Burruss 

Lipstick = has a makeup line & final studio album of Xscape was called Traces of my Lipstick

"Say Baby I Love You”= hint to her writing for Destiny’s Child

Columbia on a map= her first studio album was recorded in Columbia Records 

Borrowed Package= Ski Gear= reference to her Bravo special Kandi’s Ski Trip 

Now time for the PANEL SPOTLIGHT:

Nobody caught on this episode so nobody gets the 🏆.

On the other hand, I also can’t give a 💩 to anyone because the guesses were pretty tame & okay. They didn’t hit the mark, but they weren’t overly horrible. 

4. Turtle 

Performance: Best for last, baby! The show allowed him to perform Fix You by Coldplay for last, because he is the best & nobody could tell me otherwise. Ok so now that I have professed my love for the Turtle, I just wanna say dude this was one of his best performances (I still think his best one was his first one when he sang “Kiss from a Rose”). The song gave me chills, it was so good. It was raw & emotional, you could really feel all the words he was singing. Best performance of the night 1000%!!

Guess: Jesse McCartney

Wedding Cake Topper= the man’s engaged to his girlfriend of 6 years, Katie Peterson

Yay! Nicole finally caught on! She gets the 🏆 for guessing spot on Jesse McCartney even though her reasoning was a bit off & kinda weird.

On the other hand, the worst guess aka the 💩 was again our guest judge with the ever so terrible guess of Norman Reydus. This is so far off, it’s almost laughable.

╚ He represented 2Able Company, he placed 62nd and he was a member of the fan-made group, RAINZ together with his fellow PD101 members. They debuted October 2017 with their debut song, Juliette and disbanded after they wrapped up their Japan activities on October 2018. Wontak debuted solo after RAINZ and he do have solo tours

╚ He represented his company, 2Y and he was a member of RAINZ who debuted on 2017 and disbanded last year October. Kiwon placed 53rd in the show.

Roh Taehyun and Ha Sungwoon

╚ Taehyun and Sungwoon represented Ardor and Able Company

╚ In the show Taehyun placed 25th. After the show, Taehyun joined his and Sungwoon’s original group, HOTSHOT for their comeback song, Jelly.

╚ Taehyun was also a member of the first fan-made group of PD101, JBJ. They debuted October 2017 with Fantasy, they got their first win on their first comeback, My Flower. The group disbanded after seven months of promotion.

╚ Sungwoon placed 11th at the end of the survival show, making him Wanna One’s Main Vocal

╚ Both are debuting SOLO this year before returning to HOTSHOT

╚ After the show these two trainees of Blessing Entertainment debuted as a duo called UNLOCK. Woohyeok placed 75th and Jinwon at 66th.

Kim Donghyun and Im Youngmin

╚ After the show these boys debuted in a duo called MXM under Brand New Music which means More and More, and also Mix and Match. Their debut song is I’m The One and came back for the first time with Diamond Girl, second with Ya Ya Ya

╚ Youngmin placed 15th and Donghyun at 28th during PD101

╚ Aside from MXM, they also debuted in a four-member boy group, YDDP together with Starship boys. They debuted with their song, “Love It, Live It”

╚ Youngmin and Donghyun will debut together with Daehwi and Woojin S O O N under the rumoured group name, ‘AB6IX’

╚ 2/4 of BNM Boys who debuted with Wanna One. Daehwi won the 3rd place and Woojin won the 6th place

╚ Fact: Daehwi continued composing songs. Actually, some of his songs were featured in MXM’s album. Daehwi also composed a song for PRODUCE 48. Daehwi was also confirmed to have produced a song for Yoon Jisung’s upcoming solo album

Arredondo Samuel (Kim Samuel)

╚ He represented BRAVE Entertainment and was one of the most popular trainees of Produce 101 for he debuted before entering the show and was supposed to be a member of one of the biggest boy group, SEVENTEEN.

╚ After the show, Samuel debuted solo with his song, SIXTEEN and he came back with a full-length album, Eye Candy. (Candy as the song title). Samuel also promoted in Japan with Pony Canyon assisting him for his Japanese Promotions. So far, he have 3 OSTs, 1 television series and he won 2018 New Hallyu Performance Award in Soribada.

╚ He has scheduled fanmeeting tours in Asia and will soon debut as a member of ‘C9BOYZ’

╚ He represented Hanahreum Company and left the show to undergo a surgery for a serious injury (he was treated for three weeks) making him land on the 59th spot

╚ After the show, Taemin debuted as an actor. So far, he has 1 Drama entitled, Sunny As Well (2018) and 1 Film entitled Whisper (2018)

Park Woodam, Woo Jinyoung, Jeong Woncheol, Jo Yonggeun

╚ They represented HF Music (Happy Face Music). Woodam placed 35th, Jinyoung at 40th, Woncheol at 95th and Yonggeun at 93rd

╚ Woodam was known for his high notes and he is the brother of SISTAR member, Soyou. Jinyoung amazed the national producers with his performance of SMTM's I Am Not What You Think where his nickname "Woo Jinyoung micheotji" (Woo Jinyoung is crazy) came from.

╚ After the show, Woodam, Jinyoung and Yonggeun joined another survival show, MIX NINE. Woodam didn't made it to the cut, Yonggeun was eliminated in the 3rd round and Jinyoung actually WON the show, he was in the 1st place set to debut in YG's new group. UNFORTUNATELY, YG and other companies disagreed with the new contract YG set (As far as I know, YG changed the contract saying the winning members of MIX NINE should promote for THREE YEARS which is very impossible for a SURVIVAL SHOW group since they came from different entertainments). This misunderstanding made HF Music file a lawsuit against YG Entertainment (and up until now, there's no result yet). Like, guys Jinyoung BEGGED YG for another chance during MIX NINE cause he is so determined to debut. He did well during the show and got the 1st place but YG suddenly fucked up. (Sorry, I'm just mad at YG for not letting MIX NINE debut)

╚  AND here's the good news, Woodam, Jinyoung, Woncheol and Yonggeun is in a group under HF Music called HNB 

╚ Jinyoung actually debuted solo!! :)

Park Sungwoo

╚ He represented HIM Entertainment and placed 37th. He was known as the oldest trainee during the show and the trainee who looks like Song Joong Ki.

╚ After the show, Sungwoo became a model and an actor. He got the Support role for "The Omniscent Viewpoint On Crushes" (2017); Main Role for "Oh! Dear Half- basement Goddesses" (2017) and another main role for "Because It's My First Time" (2018).

Kim Sangkyun

╚ He represented Hunus Entertainment and placed 26th.

╚ Before entering the show, he is a member of the boy group toppdogg where he use his stage name, A-Tom. After PD101, Sangkyun joined JBJ and promoted for 7 months. After his promotions with JBJ, Sangkyun left ToppDogg. After months, he and Kenta formed a duo named JBJ95. (THEY WILL HAVE A COMEBACK PLS SUPPORT THESE BABIES)

Kim Yeonkuk, Nam Yoonsung, Ryu Hoyeon and Choi Heesoo

╚ They represented I.One Entertainment where Yeonkuk placed 76th, Yoonsung left the show, Hoyeon at 87th and Heesoo at 96th

╚ The Eastlight concerned a lot of fans after the news that they are being mistreated by their CEO. Up until now, the case isn’t clear yet and that I haven’t heard anything from TEL yet. But I hope they are all fine and well

╚ Daniel won the 1st place on PD101. He was Wanna One’s Center, Rapper and Dancer. Daniel will be debuting solo after Jisung’s debut (pending). LM Entertainment and Daniel are having misunderstanding at the moment, and Daniel decided to file a lawsuit against LM ENT. (Like, LM ENT fucked up BIG TIME. Why the fuck they would not give Daniel HIS OWN SNS accounts? excuse me LM ent! Whatever he does, whatever his decisions, we will wait for our Kang Center)

╚ Jisung placed 8th. He was Wanna One’s vocal and leader. Jisung debuted solo and starred in a drama. (LM ENT THE MOST ANNOYING ENT EVER JUST FCKING CANCELLED TWO OF HIS FANMEETINGS. MY BB DON’T DESERVE THAT SHIT)

╚  Jaehan left MMO after the show and signed up with Wynn Entertainment where he debuted with SPECTRUM

╚ Jinwoo left MMO and signed up with film company, Finecut Entertainment to debut as an actor

Mi Jeong Jeon, starting as T3 at the beginning, shot a 6-under 66, and join the leading spot with fellow A Lim Kim at 12-under 204 for the tournament. Playing KLPGA tournament is a rare plan for Jeon. “It’s an unforgettable experience for me, the quality of competition is in high level here.” Jeon said. “Wearing a pink pants make me feel more confident on court, I can’t wait to accept the challenge tomorrow.”

Taiwanese Pei-Ying Tsai shot a 3-under 69, currently sit for 3rd place at ten-under 206 for the tournament. “My putt is working very well this week, nothing is better than hitting a birdie on the 18th hole to close it out today” Tsai said. Talking about “Korean Squad” are striving for glory, Tsai answering the question with her sunshine smile. “A Lim Kim is a nice and warm person, we’ll cheer each other up, try to keep the atmosphere in quite positive way.” When Tsai was leaving the course, she met Kim on her way, and they wish each other best of luck in the final round tomorrow.

The highlight of day 3 would be So Yi Kim from Korea, shot a 8-under 64, and break the Hsin Yi Golf Club 65-record. Talking about being the new record holder, Kim was quite shy and humble. “I am able to learn from previous rounds, and try to improve everything. Overall I am happy with my score today. Moreover, I believe wearing red T-shirt bring me some good luck, make me feel more confident on court today.”

Hometown heroine Yu-Ju Chen had 6 birdies today, currently sit for 7th place at six-under 210 for the tournament. Chen is quite excited playing in front of her home crowd. “Overall I am happy with my score today. My putt is working very well, only need 27 putts in this round.” Chen said. Wearing a Shocking Green pants make her become the feature on court today. “This pants make me feel more confident on court. But I have only one Shocking Green pants. This pants have to be washed today, or I’ll wear the same one tomorrow.” Chen explained with a big laugh.

Featured former world no.1 Yani Tseng of Taiwan, there are many hometown fans who followed her every stroke and putt today at Hsin Yi Golf Club. Tseng shoot an even-par 72 today to tie for 18th. Amateur Hsin Yu Lu was not as sharp as previous round, currently sit for T11 at five-under 211 for the tournament. Local favorite Wei-Ling Hsu shot an even-par 72 today at one-under 215 for the tournament to sit at T28 with Taiwanese amateur Ho-Yu An.

Former world no. 1 Yani Tseng will tee off tomorrow at 10:06 A.M. Local favorite Wei-Ling Hsu will start at 09:22 A.M. Taiwan Women’s Golf Open has returned to the tour calendar after 12 years with a total purse of US$800,000. Co-sanctioned by TLPGA and KLPGA, TWGO aims to promote Taiwan’s golf development as well as the splendors of the host city, Kaohsiung, to the world.

This is the first time in history that a national golf championship will be held in southern Taiwan. It not only shows CTGA’s ambition in balanced regional development but its endeavors in laying the cornerstone for future golfers in southern Taiwan.
