Steb fencing au... featuring a team event!

A team event is where teams of three go against each other. If you're all of the same weapon, then everyone will fence each other once. Each bout goes up to 3 points, and the points from the previous bout carries onto the next. The winning team ends with a final score of 27 points.

If you are of separate weapons, 1 of each discipline (foil, epee, sabre), then the respective weapons of each team will go against each other (eg. foil vs foil, epee vs epee, sabre vs sabre). Bouts can go up to 3 or 5 points, with the winning team ending with 9 or 15 points total.

If you two are on the same team

You two are always so soft and encouraging with each other. The 3rd person on your team always feels like a third wheel if you two are on the same team

You two hook each other in when it's time to swap in/out

He doesn't cheer you on while the bout is ongoing (as he would have to be more vocal for that, and Steb is on the quieter side), but always praises you once you finish your bout. He hands you your water bottle and praises you for the wonderful bout and how well you fenced and all the rest

He always fences really well whenever you two are on the same team, partially because he wants to impress you, and also because he loves hearing your cheers and praises. Your words give him so much motivation

You two always stand beside each other when you're both off and strategize together. Steb is really observant, so he's really quick to pick up on habits and patterns in his opponents and point it out to you

If you lose the bout and apologize to Steb, he puts his hand on your shoulder and reassures you that it's okay. He's very gentle and encouraging, and tries to get you to look into his eyes when he says that it's alright, so you know he's being sincere

You can't help but admire Steb whenever he's fencing. He just looks so pretty and cool... and vice versa, Steb can't keep his eyes off of you when you're fencing. He always looks star-struck when he's watching you, but you never notice because you're absorbed in your bout. Your other teammate (Maddie, maybe?) teases Steb for the way he watches you

If you two are on opposite teams

Tension galore

Steb always looks super energized whenever he goes against you. The way he looks at you when you salute each other makes you feel excited--in more ways than one

Playful teasing and goading each other on?? You betcha

If you two are both off, sometimes you'll go up to each other and talk / tease each other and rile each other up (and occasionally get told off for "fraternizing with the enemy") (playfully of course, it's never that serious)

Steb still watches you while you fence, and he tries to pass it off as him trying to observe your habits and patterns, but in reality he's a bit too distracted by you to pay any real attention

He doesn't go easy on you, but that doesn't mean you can't catch him off guard. If it's you, it's surprisingly easy to fluster or catch him off guard

Your handshakes at the end of a bout are always a little too long

Sometimes, after a bout with you, Steb is a bit more flushed and breathless than usual, which is strange considering he has such good stamina and doesn't get tired out easily, but for some reason going against him just makes him breathless?

He loves flushing you. He loves running at you, the brief moment of proximity to you that grants him, the way your eyes widen when he flushes you--and if he gets a point off that, then he likes seeing your exasperated expression. If you parry him and get a point off him instead, then your smug and victorious expression makes his heart race a bit
