Hey guys!
Although I was unable to get on the computer this past month, I was able handwrite some things!!
This is based on an OT3 idea that @angrysongbird and @shaynemattison101 and I came up with a bit ago, and I’m finally able to post it!
Warning: This is sad. And it’s an OT3, where three people are in a relationship together. There’s nothing graphic or sexual, however there is a character death, swearing, and some blood. I’ll have warnings in the tags too, and if I missed something, let me know!
Enjoy the pain ;p.
“Shayne? No!” Anya broke free of the agent’s tight grip and flung herself over Shayne’s crumpled form. Fighting to find a pulse, she snarled at Dimitri, “You’ll pay for this.” Dimitri smiled wide, basking in the pan he had just brought upon his greatest rival.
“Leave them,” his husky voice seemed to echo around the living room. Anya frantically shook Shayne, trying to wake him up, barely hearing what Dimitri was saying. “I am not so cruel as to not allow you to grieve. So grieve dorogaya. I look forward to meeting you again. But know it will be our last.”
“Shayne. Please,” Anya’s voice broke, knowing that Shayne’s crystal eyes would never look at her again.
“I loved you once, as you loved him,” Dimitri continued, “Make your peace, you’ll be joining him soon.” Anya shrugged Dimitri’s hand from her shoulder, too broken to really fight back. She hardly heard the footsteps or the sharp click of the door shutting softly behind the man that killed her love.
Finally alone, Anya screamed.
She didn’t know how long she allowed the sobs to wrack her body, hor how many times she called out for Shayne to wake up. Eventually she just sat, hardly breathing, holding Shayne’s head to her chest and doing her best to ignore the throbbing of her bruised and swollen face and the aching in her heart.
She and Raven needed to get out of there, that much she knew, out of the house the three of them had bought less than a year ago. How could they continue to live in the place Shayne had been murdered. How could they sit in the living room knowing that the man they loved bled out on the floor? Besides, it would be harder for Dimitri to find them if they went off grid.
She know she should start grabbing the go bags she had made for everyone in secret, but she couldn’t let go of Shayne just yet.
Then it hit her that Raven didn’t know. Berating herself for allowing her emotions to get in the way of taking care of her loved ones, she dug into her pocket, not caring that Shayne’s blood was staining her hands.
Before she could pull up Raven’s number, Anya heard the door open. Not letting go of Shayne, she reached for the gun under the coffee table. Aiming it at the doorway, she yelled, “Get out of here! Or I swear I’ll kill you, you son of a bitch!” Silence settled for a moment and Anya hand started to shake. Had she imagined the door?
“Anya? It’s me, Raven. I’m coming in, okay? Please don’t shoot me.”
A million thoughts flew through Anya’s mind, there was no way Raven could see Shayne like this.
But Raven was already in the room, silent, staring first at the gun pointed at her chest, then Anya’s bruised and bloodied face, and then to Shayne.
“What..Anya? Shayne…” Shakily, Anya put the gun down and Raven rushed over, falling to her knees and pulling Shyne into her arms. Anya saw tears gather in Raven’s beautiful eyes, and Anya knew that Dimitri really would pay for this. He hurt the two people she loved most.
“Dimitri,” Anya stated simply, and Raven’s eyes widened in understanding before turning to Shayne.
“Shayne…” she whispered, brushing shaggy black hair from his face before the sobs overtook her. She rocked his body as she cried, her heartbreak like a knife to Anya’s chest. She knew it was her fault that the man they loved was dead, and she was going to fix it.
She left Raven to grab the go bags from the hidden compartment in the closet wall- Shayne’s too. Looking at the bags in her hands filled with bare essentials, Anya suddenly felt oddly sentimental. She quickly entered the main bedroom, grabbing the Teddy Bear Shayne had won for her on their first date in England. She also grabbed his favourite sweater and the photo of the three of them laughing on their first vacation. Seeing Raven’s favourite black leather jacket Anya and Shayne had gotten for the younger girl’s birthday, she picked that up too, placing all of the objects carefully in their respective bags, making sure the money, passports, and disguise supplies were all still there.
Seeing that they were, Anya listened for Raven’s sobs to quiet down before she walked through to the kitchen. Raven didn’t even look up.
Anya grabbed the stash of guns from the kitchen. One under the sink, one in the cupboard, one and and few hunting knives from the junk drawer. Grabbing a box of matches from a different drawer, Anya called softly for Raven. When she didn’t get an answer, she left the bags on the countertop and made her way to the door to the living room, poking her head in. Raven was silent, running her fingers through Shayne’s hair, staring absentmindedly at the wall.
“Raven?”
Raven slowly turned to meet Anya’s gaze, her heartbreak obvious in her eyes. Anya couldn’t tell if she blamed her for what happened, but she supposed she would find out soon enough. “Raven, we have to go.” Raven nods as if she knew it was coming.
“What about Shayne?” Raven’s voice was barely audible as her eyes flitted from Anya’s to Shayne’s closed ones. Anya’s heart sunk. She knew what needed to be done, but her dark hair lover was not going to like it.
Silently, Anya made her way to the slider door, opening it and stepped out onto the porch. Grabbing two jugs of lighter fluid Shayne had gotten for the grill, she took a deep breath and stepped back inside.
“We need to go, now. I’ve got go bags in the kitchen. I-I don’t want you to see this. Please.” Anya broke the seal on the of the jugs.
Raven looked up, horrified. “No. Anya. you can’t--”
“I have to, Raven. It’s the only way.”
“No, Anya. We can’t do that. We have to bury him. Properly. He deserves that…” Raven pulled Shayne closer to her.
“I know, Raven, I know,” Anya tried to keep her voice from shaking, “He didn’t deserve to die. And he deserves a proper burial now that he has but...we don’t have time. That is want Dimitri wants, Raven. For us to stick around and grieve and bury him and then kill us. Shayne wouldn’t want that. This,” Anya shook the jug, brown liquid spilling over her fingers,” This is the only way the two of us have a chance to survive. That is what Shayne would want.”
Raven fought back tears, shaking her head, “I can’t...we can’t…” Anya knew that physically forcing Raven to leave would be damn near impossible, the smaller woman had a lot of feisty fight power.
“Raven, please. Trust me, this is the only way.”
Raven sat, pulling Shayne close. “It’s the only way?”
“Yes.”
Raven sat another moment before kissing Shayne’s head and standing. “Okay. What do I need to do?”
“Go to the kitchen. Make sure all of the bags are ready, there are three, and you can pack the guns into them. Then wait for me by the door. You don’t need to see this.” Anya wasn’t going to let her see this.
“But--”
“No.” Anya gave Raven her stern stare, the one Raven and Shayne both learned not to mess with. Raven gave one last look to Shayne before nodding and wiping her cheeks, turning and exiting to the kitchen.
Anya got to work pouring the liquid over the living room, not looking at Shayne’s body. As she made her way through the rest of the house, it took all she had not to stop and burst into tears. She had to suck it up, she had to be there for Raven who didn't have the training she did.
All that was left to do was the kitchen, but Anya needed to say goodbye to Shayne first. Kneeling down, Anya placed a gentle kiss on his lips. “I am so sorry, my love. You didn't deserve this. Dimitri will pay. I--I love you.” Blinking back tears, Anya stood and poured some of the fluid in Shayne’s body, not looking at him as she did so.
With half a jug left, she made her way to the kitchen. The bags were gone, and so was Raven. Anya sighed in relief, thankful that Raven had actually listened to her and was waiting in the entryway. Any poured the lighter fluid around the kitchen as she double checked for weapons and necessities she had missed.
Saving a bit of the fluid, Anya led a trail to the entryway where Raven was waiting, ready to go with a dead look in her eyes and a box of matches in her hand.
Anya gently took the matches from her fingers, giving Raven’s hand a gentle squeeze before letting go. Raven’s lips turned upward slightly before she bent down to pick up two of the bags. Throwing the other two over her shoulder, Anya lit a match.
“I'm so sorry, Shayne. I love you.” A single tear fell from her eye, landing just before the match. She stood watching the flames trail back to the kitchen until Raven took her hand.
“Come on, Anya. We need to get you cleaned up and hit the road.” Anya had forgotten about her own wounds while she was taking care of the house, but the pain came rushing on her all at once.
Pulling the younger woman into an embrace to hide the pain evident in her face, Anya took a deep breath, allowing herself a moment of weakness before she had to continue to be strong. “I love you, Raven,” with those four words, Anya hoped Raven knew she meant a thousand,”Let's go catch this son of a bitch.”
