hii bestie <333 can i have bookrecs maybe my tbr is ??? going empty ??? wh how??? but yeah mwah<333
omg hiiiiiii bestie <33 and KABVAGSJEB valid okay okay here we go !! i’ll rec 5 and disclaimer: most of these are going to also be on my tbr LMAO whoops bc i haven’t read in so long so 😭
1. the empress of salt and fortune
this is just??? so good??? like first off they/them protagonist !! and it’s so !!!! like the first two chapters make you go huh? but once it get through that it becomes so interesting !!! it feels like you’re being told a story bc you are!!! and it’s so <333 like wowwwwww it’s just. great like the story is everything even though there’s no technical ‘plot’ like you think. also this one scene in the book with her seer…like uh. empress?? you got something you want to tell us?? 👁👁
overall id rate it 4/5 points taken off purely bc the writing style is everything i love it !! but it’s not quite memorable like certain lines don’t just stick to you after you read it like how six of crows did… yk?
2. and then there were none
i. i uh. haven’t read this yet ADSHFSHSVSHD but everyone’s telling me it’s wonderful and amazing and also mysteries are just like?? so fun especially with agatha christie writing it and it’s just. very wild i can just feel it can’t wait to read it !!!
3. the ghost bride
another one i haven’t read but isa loved it and i trust isa so yeah <3 basically this post should cover why it’s amazing and so i’m also very excited to start this next month
4. i’ll be the one
listen this is. it’s a fun cute little read if you’re bored bc this was so nice i had to pause to squeal a bit a LOT like the mc is so !!!!! she’s fat and she’s not like insecure about it like she has her moments thats so normal but she’s confident and it’s just !!! she’s basically trying to be an idol and addresses the fat phobia in the kpop industry with a healthy smacking of white girl bashing (white girl obsessed with korean culture to be specific), asians gfs as background relationships, and complicated mother daughter relationships that aren’t just ‘omg i forgive you and then we love each other’ no the resolution between them is 100% realistic and i just :’) and then !!! and then bi4bi main couple!!! CANONLY!!!! THEYRE BOTH SAID THEYRE BI IN THE BOOK LIKE !!!! they’re both korean too like <3
it’s rated 3/5 bc the writing is juvenile at time (and ngl im fine with it!! the author has written children’s books with an asian protag so the whole YA thing is new to her and it’s rlly good for her foray into this genre honestly!!!!) and also the harry potter and bts references were -_- i know the bts was going to be a thing but the hp??? when the book was made in 2020??? like in this day and age??? no thank you keep that away. there are like uhh less than 10 so a blessing ig
sorry i talked too much about this one i just have many thoughts bc this was THE book that got me out of my slump and it’s nice !! best listened to with kpop playing on low in the background <3
5. finally, the lunar chronicles
this is a nice series !!!!!! the way all the male characters are side characters and each book surrounds the girl yeah <3 the third book is kind of :/ bc there’s a relationship with a 16 yr old and a 22-23? year old i think idk but basically she’s isolated and idolized him and he’s… idk it’s weird but if you just keep in mind that ajd try and ignore how that’s the driving factor for a lot of this it’s fine !!! the plot is nice !! but yeah the rest of them are <33333 and the plot is so !!!! each book is a sci-fi retelling of a fairytale and they all blend into each other seamlessly its just so !!!! the characters are everything as well i don’t care for like half of the men ensemble but the women. aaaaah beloveds 3/5 mainly bc it’s been SUCH a long time i don’t think i can accurately judge it so we’ll stick with a decent rating yk?
also! read heartless by the same author it’s like her retelling of how the queen of hearts became the queen of hearts it’s rlly good !!! cant for the love of me rmbr most of the plot nor can reread it bc it hurts but still. rlly good !!!! 4/5 definitely
ALSO FUCKING WAIT LAST ONE
read xiran ray zhao’s book i don’t remember what it’s called but it’s coming out september 21st and it’s gonna be so fucking good like. i just know it so yeah <3
okay that’s it have fun reading <3

Hello, book-dragons! If you don’t understand the title I’ll clarify it for ya. It basically means I will be recommending Australian Young Adult Books I read ( which I read in my teenage years long ago LOL and I still LOOOOOOVVVVEEEEE,) for you to read on this series of posts. If you don’t know or if you’re new to my blog, I live on the island country Australia. YES, we have many, many, many local young adult books and YES many of them are amazing. YES, you are missing out. ^^
Confession Time: This was originally one huge post of Oz YA that I love but um I got too busy, too distracted and the post itself became way to long. I mean way way too looonng… so I changed into a series of posts of Oz YA recs! WOOO!
This post series on my blog is going to feature one Oz YA recommendation that I love and came straight out of my awkward teenage years. I will post a new post within this series twice every month and hopefully I can help spread more love and attention to these deserving and wonderful books from my corner of the world!
To start this series off I will be recommending to you one of my favourite Oz YA trilogies, probably ever. Drumroll please
Silvermay series by James Moloney
The Silvermay series has a historical setting. The series is set in a universe where wizards exist. The Wrydborn are a race of greedy wizards used as soldiers by the ruling class, kings and lords. Wyrdborn are very strong and can only be killed using an item that they own. The Silvermay series is the story of a teenage girl named Silvermay who gets caught up in a adventure with an unusual Wyrdborn named Tamlyn and baby Lucien. It follows their quest to free baby Lucien from his cruel fate.
If I somehow miraculously didn’t butcher the story for you, phere is James Maloney’s synopsis for the first book titled Silvermay:
…Silvermay Hawker is sixteen years old when Tamlyn and Nerigold seek refuge in her village for themselves and a new-born child. Like every other girl in the district, Silvermay is immediately attracted to Tamlyn’s solemn good looks. She also becomes a friend to Nerigold who is ill and often leaves Silvermay to care for the baby, Lucien. Poor Silvermay’s heart becomes hopelessly confused when Tamlyn seems to show her more attention than he shows to Nerigold.
At the same time, dark forces are closing in, seeking Nerigold and her baby. These are the Wyrdborn, a despicable breed of wizards so corrupted by their own evil that they are easily manipulated by kings and lords to act as soldiers. The most dangerous of these is Coyle Strongbow and he has a special reason to get his hands on Lucien.
Warned of the danger, Tamlyn announces a sudden departure and despite her heart’s anguish, Silvermay goes with them to help with the baby. They are heading for the mountains of Nan Tocha where the secret of Lucien’s importance is hidden, but along the way Silvermay discovers that Tamlyn is one of the Wyrdborn. He doesn’t deny it, yet claims to be a different kind of Wyrdborn, taught by his mother to experience compassion and even the stirrings of affection. Silvermay is now freely and unashamedly in love with him, even though the threat of betrayal dogs her every moment.
By the time they reach Nan Tocha, Nerigold is very weak and Silvermay begins to worry that Lucien may be the cause. They meet Arnou Dessar who shows them ancient mosaics deep in an abandoned mine which reveal why Coyle is so desperate to get possession of little Lucien. The news comes too late for Nerigold, and Silvermay finds herself pledged to save the baby from his terrible fate. The key seems to lie in a far off land named Erebus Felan. But does it even exist?
This is a grand adventure, tinged with romance but also the most repellent evil. Ride the winds with Silvermay, as she battles her heart and the forces that would destroy all that she loves.
Why do I love this series?
The Wyrdborn. I haven’t quite read anything with a race similar to them. They are an interesting race. Physically stronger than normal humans, they have less emotion, greedy for power and material possessions. Because they can only be killed by something they own they don’t trust anyone, most definitely not their fellow Wyrdborns.
It tackles very big topics. What does it mean to be human? Can you change your nature? Throughout the series Tamlyn works to be less of the greedy, selfish, heartless Wyrdborn and more human. However, he also learned that even though humans have emotion and capable of beautiful things like love as a race they are also capable of many evils.
Silvermay in general. Silvermay Hawker is not a Wyrdborn. She has no magic or power but this girl is fighting a fight against people who do have power, magic, and authority. She is literally normal girl who is in love and is fighting to keep a promise. No, she doesn’t learn how to hold a sword. I don’t quite know how to explain her but I love her as a character but I’ll say this: Silvermay shows that you don’t have to be a warrior or physically strong to fight for the people you care for.
But all the characters, in my opinion, are very interesting and full of depth.
The story itself is compelling, easy to fall into and very very enjoyable!! ❤ ❤
Bonus:
The covers are gorgeous mate! Feast your eyes on these beauties!! ❤ ❤ ❤
Beautiful I know. Now go read it! ^^
Have you read the Silvermay series? What is your favourite Oz YA book? Did you even know that Australia exists? (i didn’t at first…)
