Love that there was two very obvious supermarket employees in uniform and then me in a giant oversized inuyasha shirt, anime dog boy featured on front AND back + dumb sun glasses + green trackie pants and yet a little old man was like yeah, she's the one I will go and ask for help from

tbh i probably think about being a parent more than other kids my age (who don’t have kids). I think about how I would be a better dad to my kid than my dad ever was to me. My father taught me nothing. He has a terrible sense of humor, no style, no backbone, and sits in front of the TV all day. I am thankful however, that he motivates me to become someone who makes their kid proud to call them dad. Without his help, I’ve navigated through life’s challenges with girls, cars, school, and life in general.
Here’s a recent short story. Yesterday my dad came to Boone to check in, which was very surprising and weird for the reason that we both have a mutual discomfort around each other because of past circumstances. He said he’d take me shopping at Walmart. I said ok. I brought my 8 week old german shepherd puppy with me, as he always comes along in the cart at Walmart. I park in the Wally World parking lot and he asks why im bringing the dog in and tells me to instead leave him in the car. I say Why, I do this every time. “Is he a service animal?” my father says. “No, he’s a puppy. service dog in training actually. He comes with me every time” I tell him. He continues to argue with me telling me how “it’s against the rules...not a service animal...” SO i walk through the front door with my pup in my cart and my dad trailing behind. I begin to look at produce, and I look back to see my father near the front door with his arms crossed yelling at a Walmart employee about how the dog isn’t a service dog. The employee is mentally-handicapped and I could tell that he did not know what to say. Whilst my dad is standing there in the doorway, shoppers are blocked from entering the store. He points. He yells about rules. I was embarrassed. I took my dog and left the store, told him to come with me or else he’d have to take a bus back. “So if you rob a bank and you get away with it, are you going to rob another bank?” My father says in the car on the way back. He is referring to me taking the dog into Walmart on previous occasions. “WTF REALLY?! It’s a freakin puppy in a shopping cart, I’m not robbing a bank”
While the story might not have had the impact I wanted, it is a fine example of my father’s spineless character. I really wish I had a father I could respect and look up to as a role model.
