OHHH ANON YOUVE GIVEN ME THE CHANCE TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING I NEVER GET TO TALK ABOUT ok here we go this may be not exactly about dc but it ties back so hear me out
so like. historically in fiction there’s this trope where humans are like. special. it’s not talked about enough but it’s like an underlying Thing. like. aliens trying to invade the planet? nope, the humans will kick their asses. zombie apocalypse? nah the humans survive it somehow. dystopian futures? supervillains? dark magic? monsters and chaos and all the scary things out there? robots? clowns? Pure Evil? The literal biblical apocalypse? No matter what the problem is, humankind will prevail. ALWAYS. Maybe sometimes those humans aren’t exactly HUMAN, they’re aliens themselves (like Superman) or they have magic or other special powers (demigods, wizards, metahumans/mutants/whatever you wanna call them, etc.). But no matter what they are, they have this one thing in common:
they’re all from Earth. They’re One Of Us. and like. that part of those heroes, that’s what makes them so special and it’s so DUMB but it’s SUCH a good trope because no matter what happens you KNOW the humans/good people from Earth are gonna win in the end because That’s How It Works. You’re human. There’s something special, magical in that, even if the person themself isn’t magical or special at all, and I just. I can’t explain it in words well but it’s that Thing and it’s just SO GOOD. It’s my favorite trope of all time.
on the topic of superheroes? It’s even better. It’s like, in Justice League movies or shows, you KNOW Batman is gonna kick ass, because yeah okay he’s the only human on a team of superpowered people and aliens and gods and he’s just a guy in a batsuit with a infinity-degree blackbelt. he’s just a dude. but there’s always that moment when it’s down to just batman and the superpowered villain’s like “haha man in a suit of armor take that off what are you” but like he’s like “I’m BATMAN” and saves the day and like. look. he’s really just a guy! but in the end he saves the day and defeats the evil alien freak and it’s like!! That shouldn’t be possible! But Batman is a Human and humans are so badass in fiction even when they shouldn’t be and I just. I love that trope so much someone please write an essay on this
