speaking up.
(tw: this post contains information about sexual assault, abuse, manipulation, and other possibly triggering topics. If you’re sensitive to any of these, I suggest not reading further than this.)
Before I explain exactly what this post is about, I’d like to start by saying that if you know any of the people mentioned in this post, please do not reach out to any of them or attack any of them. Yes all the people mentioned are small content creators with either less than 100 or just above 1000 followers on YouTube, that doesn’t mean that their story is any less valid or any of them deserve to be treated any differently than any other people who have been abused before. I’d also like to mention that yes, this situation is being dealt with, so I don’t have all the details. However, I’d still like to speak up about what happened since the victim in this situation is a friend of mine, and everyone deserves to have their story be heard. Thank you.
I’m not very sure exactly how to start something like this, so I’m just going to jump to the point and explain. Recently, one of my content creator friends, known online as Katie Bug, has been put into an abusive relationship and this situation has affected her. I’m not naming her legal first name or the other person, so for now we’re just referring to the alleged abuser in this situation as his current discord username, Polief. I’d like to mention that this situation is very recent (starting as far as I know around late 2023, or around the start of the American school year, mid August), so I’m not 100% on every detail. On parts that I’m not certain about, I will mention that, to keep everything here as honest as possible. The first interaction I had with Polief was around early September, however I didn’t get the chance to screenshot what was said. I will admit that at that point, I was worried and wasn’t thinking straight, so some words I said may not have been the most respectful things to say in that situation, and for that I do apologize. In short, the conversation started with me showing up in the place we (my online friend group) usually communicate (I will not be naming or describing as to keep everyone as anonymous as possible.) I had shown up since the place wasn’t super active at that time and I wanted to have a small conversation with Katie. Around the start of the conversation, I was slightly suspicious that someone else had gotten hold of Katie‘s account, as they were acting differently from her normal text patterns, attitude, etc. Now, when I did confront Polief about this (I didn’t know it was Polief at the time), they started to become aggressive, doing things like threatening to break Katie’s phone or hurt Katie. As far as I know, neither of those actions were taken, and that was the only things I can specifically remember from that conversation. Another similar situation showed up a few weeks later, on November 7, 2023. Again, I don’t have good screenshots to provide, but I will quote a few things Polief said that could be considered toxic or abusive. Key phrases said include “if u think i aint her just k-¥-$”, im bout to say something ill regret”, “st f u” (someone mentioned something that could prove he isn’t Katie). Another detail mentioned in this same conversation was said by Katie herself, which was said after she managed to get her phone back from Polief: “First I have to steal my phone back from a specific someone”. I’m including this here because it implies that not only did Polief take Katie’s phone without her consent, but also specifically refused to give it back, leading to Katie having to “steal my phone back” as she said. Another detail that can be mentioned is something Katie mentioned in another chat: “Polief (bf) is jealous. And about a week ago before we even got together he tracked down my email and got access to my YouTube account. And he’s mad that I keep coming to chat and freaked out and turne”.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure exactly what the rest of her message included, as this is the only half I could find. I mention this quote too because it describes behavior Polief has shown that could be considered abusive or toxic, such as stealing someone’s email account out of jealousy, and getting upset about someone interacting with friends too often.
Things stayed calm after that for a while, until a few days ago, when Katie provided screenshots of Polief showing even more abusive behavior. Due to the date shown in the video (I took screenshots to upload to here), I believe the messages shown are from March 3, 2024.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, Polief can be seen threatening and showing toxic traits towards Katie. In a conversation the same day these screenshots were provided (March 4, 2024), Katie mentioned other details related to these screenshots and previous times Polief has attempted to hurt Katie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the phrases mentioned in the second photo, “I’m used to this shit by now”, implies that Polief has tried before to break into Katie’s house and/or hurt her.
Now everything was fine again after that up until March 6, 2024. Polief had managed to get into Katie’s house and hurt her, which resulted in him trying to take her somewhere but being stopped by the police. That same day Katie and Polief were taking in for questioning, and Polief was later placed into Juvenile Detention. Due to messages Katie sent, I can believe that James also managed to r@pe her, and things she had said before imply that this wasn’t the first time.
I’d like to end this off by saying that even though Polief has been placed in Juvenile Detention, this is still a serious problem, and Katie isn’t the only one who’s been through this. However, Katie did reach out to someone, and that’s an important thing to do. Moving forward, to anyone who reads this, if someone does something similar to you or hurts you at all, don’t be afraid to reach out to the police. If they hit you once, they’ll do it again.
to the people mentioned in this post, feel free to reach out to me if you want me to take this down. I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

WOW!!! Warning: there are some SERIOUSLY AWFUL HATERS out here on Tumblr!!! \(°o°)/
Okay, I don’t exactly know how to put this, but I’m gonna try anyway.
What I’m gonna talk about, happened yesterday, but I was kind of in a SHOCK because of it, so I totally didn’t know what to say... But I DO know that I’m INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED and also VERY MAD! Someone TOTALLY insulted me PERSONALLY and even told lies about me as well! It's completely unjustified. That much I know for sure. This person is so hateful, that even though I’m no hater, it’s kinda contagious and I feel like hating that person back. Especially after what all that already happened before the person did what he/she did. What a filthy TRAITOR!
So this person makes fan art and I was a great fan of it. I even had drawings of that person on my laptop lock screen and background. I knew they all were on his/her Tumblr page, but I had no account yet, so I couldn’t like the posts or something else. Eventually, after seeing more interesting stuff on Tumblr, I decided to create an account for myself. One of the first things I did, was following this person, liking a lot of his/her fan art and I wrote many kind comments in which I let him/her know how much I loved the art. I also sent some private messages to this person to tell him/her these things personally (and it were long messages, not just some short sentence like “I like your art”) and that I’d love to see more of the characters he/she drew. He/she replied with a “thank you” and said he/she would indeed make more and I said that I couldn’t wait.
Then (and this was yesterday) I looked at the list of the ones I follow and noticed there was one less. I went to our chat and from there I tried to go to his/her page, but I couldn’t manage to do that (which was because the person blocked me, apparently). I just looked up the page in the search bar and there I saw the message... IT WAS AWFUL. Not only the message itself, but also (and especially) the TAGS. This person was literally talking about ME and didn’t care a thing about letting me know that. It was absolutely disgusting to read it all and I was all like: “WHAAAAAAAAAAT?????!!!!!!!!!!” This person HATES and SCOLDS me, because (he/she said) I don’t support the lgbt+ community. Because I’m homophobic. The person said I’m not being oppressed for being straight... Like, WOT?!
Let me start off by saying this: YES, I don’t support the lgbt+ community, because that’s MY choice and MY opinion. I’m thinking for myself and nobody’s gonna tell me what I must think of anything! Exactly THAT is what annoys me the most! They all want to impose their opinions to me, with violence if it has to. They can’t even respect my opinion, but they expect me to agree with and support THEIRS??? Besides, almost the entire world is already supporting it all. Gay pride here, trans pride there. Those flags are everywhere! They’ve even got a WHOLE MONTH of lgbt+ pride now! Countless people praise and glorify - if not, worship - them and they’re gonna talk about oppression??? Come on, man! If it was all to have the same rights as straight people, to be equally treated as them, it would’ve been lgbt+ NORMAL, not PRIDE.
But that’s another story. What I’m REALLY ANGRY about, is THIS:
I LITERALLY have written on my page that I’m NOT homophobic or something alike. LITERALLY! And I’m not! In fact, I know quite a few gay people and I never got into a fight with them because of it. I may not agree with you on several things, but if you wanna be gay, go ahead! That’s not my problem. You do what you do, but let me do what I wanna do as well. And don’t go bothering me, telling me I have to find this normal and that normal... However, now even THAT isn’t enough anymore! I must support it or some people will hate me, apparently! Anyway, does this person really think I’m BLIND or something? Or PLAIN STUPID maybe??? Well, guess what... I’M NOT. I already had SEEN posts of this person about lgbt+ pride. Did I scold him/her? No. Did I talked bad words about him/her behind his/her back? No. Did I sent private messages to him/her in which I expressed my hateful feelings??? NO!!! But what I DID do, was following this person, liking his/her content and saying many nice things about his/her art. And then you go talking about me like THAT? I 100% don’t get it. Like, seriously, WHAT THE???!!!
Of course, after reading the (very personal) message, I immediately changed my laptop’s lock screen and background. How I wish I could delete this person’s page from my internet...
I thought it would perhaps happen in the future. The far future. But it seems it’s already reality today: you can’t say you’re straight anymore! Because that’s THE ONLY THING I did. My username: not-gae-cuz-i-like-straight-wae. Do I say I hate homos? (Yes, here we go again.) No! My profile picture/the name I use for my drawings: straight weh/straight wayzzz. Do I say I hate homos? Again, no! The title: this blog is not geh. Do I say I hate homos? Once again... No! The banner: hetero pride. Do I say I hate homos??? NOOOOO!
I SAID HETERO PRIDE AND IT APPEARS THAT BECAME AN ILLEGAL THING TO SAY. WELL, I’VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I’LL SAY IT AGAIN: I FIND IT QUITE NORMAL TO BE HETERO, BUT I’M HAPPY TO BE NORMAL.
You know, I actually COULD feel oppressed for being straight now, because this person basically discriminated me for merely saying it! (By the way, there was someone else like that and he/she started to spam long texts and pictures in our private chat, saying he/she was streaming it to Discord. I’m pretty sure that isn’t even allowed! Eventually, I had to block that fool.) I’ve seen so many usernames that included “gay”, “lesbian”, “bi”, “trans”, etcetera, but when I include “straight” in my username, I’ve committed a terrible sin, according to some people! These things are seriously happening, but I still can’t believe it...
Someone choosing to be gay may be none of my business, but I also never said a hard word about it. Just that I DON’T support it unlike almost everyone else these days. And why would you give a darn crap about what I think, huh??? There are MILLIONS of people to back you up!!! Often, I only need to turn my head to see another lgbt+ supporter. I can’t even watch TV anymore without flags turning up on the sides of the soccer field or sometimes even in the stands! So what the FRICK are you whining about??? (Maybe I’m talking to you specifically, maybe I’m not, but I’m pretty sure you’ll know if I do.)
At first, I was shocked by the message and I gotta be honest, I was really SAD too. It came so unexpected and definitely not on the right day (my birthday, I’ll have you know... no joke, I couldn’t even celebrate it due to my school tests, but then I was taking a break after some studying and I do had to see THAT message). I suppose it hurt me more than it should have. But well, the longer I think about it, the more happy I am you showed your true self. The HORRIBLE and RUDE person you are. The truth is one of the most important things in life and I’m glad to have found it out once again. The last thing I want to say, is that I’m not hateful towards those you claim I am hateful to, but now, I DO despise YOU.

You cant call, text, email, snail mail, carrier pigeon or pony tell them. next set up 2-step verification, using every feasible safety option, including printing your recovery codes and stashing them in several places. They will continue talking and say you as much as you habit to know. If the professor asks a question that would embarrass you in tummy of the class if you attempted to answer, or the boss demands for suggestions during a meeting and you obviously have nothing in mind, but he looks at you as if expecting to listen something from you, straightforwardly position your perspective and look at a colleague. He will subconsciously follow your gaze and ask the person you looked at. The social dominoes effect. If incharge of a bureau and you are wondering how you can get them to reach something you want, create it look gone everyone else is play a role it even if no one actually is. This creates an unreal peer pressure and gets people upon board. To growth your odds of getting the upper hand at a bargain, appreciation your head everytime you present your suggestion. The other party will easily attain in imitation of your offer. If you are the kind of person that people don't once to recognize seriously and you in fact compulsion to steer a narrowing across, handily tell what you desire starting in the same way as a phrase when roosevelt later than said that... or as with opined... . create it sound similar to those were the opinions of a renowned person and they will gain credibility.

New Post has been published on https://coinprojects.net/an-ethereum-blockchain-upgrade-crypto-regulatory-battles-and-bitcoin-price-discussion-hodlers-digest-aug-1-7/
An Ethereum blockchain upgrade, crypto regulatory battles, and Bitcoin price discussion: Hodler’s Digest, Aug. 1-7
Coming every Saturday, Hodler’s Digest will help you track every single important news story that happened this week. The best (and worst) quotes, adoption and regulation highlights, leading coins, predictions and much more — a week on Cointelegraph in one link.
Top Stories This Week
Square to acquire Australian fintech Afterpay in $29B deal
Jack Dorsey’s digital payments firm Square entered into a $29 billion stock deal to purchase Australian buy now, pay later (BNPL) firm Afterpay this week.
Just like the name Afterpay implies, Square will essentially be buying the firm now and paying later, with the transaction set for the first quarter of 2022 and to be paid out entirely in Square common stock.
Bitcoin (BTC) proponent Anthony Pompliano was pleased with the news, noting on his web series The Best Business Show that Square is one of the only stocks he owns, as he forecasted that the firm’s valuation will explode following the acquisition.
In an Aug. 3 YouTube video, Pomp went for sheer and utter clickbait with the title “SQUARE is going to be worth 1 TRILLION dollars,” and he emphasized the potential of rolling out Afterpay’s BNPL services to 70 million Cash App users and 2 million Square merchants.
Ethereum London hard fork goes live
The London hard fork arrived almost on schedule on Aug. 5, ushering in Ethereum Improvement Proposal 1559. An interesting feature of the upgrade is that it also ushered in some bullish sentiments from Ethereum (ETH) proponents and some sour grapes from Bitcoin maxis.
Ethereum has now transitioned away from a bidding-based fee market to a fixed price-and-burn mechanism, which may see the asset become deflationary if more ETH is burned than issued in block rewards. However, this may be more likely after the switch to proof-of-stake with ETH 2.0. If the asset does become deflationary, it would reach the status of “ultrasound money,” which is a term that has also been a long-running meme in ETH communities that mocks Bitcoiners’ description of BTC as sound money due its capped supply of 21 million.
BREAKING: White House confirms support for minor changes to crypto tax proposal
The White House officially backed a last-minute amendment to the controversial U.S. infrastructure plan that proposes expanded cryptocurrency taxation to raise an additional $28 billion in revenue. The amendment maintains stringent reporting requirements for blockchain developers and validators while exempting miners.
However, the amendment’s vague wording and lack of clearly defined terms suggest that crypto developers and proof-of-stake validators would still be subject to expanded reporting and taxation that some have described as “unworkable.”
For some reason, members of the White House seem intent on cracking down on tax evasion in crypto without understanding the nuances of the industry. They also seem to overlook the blatant rorting of the system from multinational giants who essentially vacuum capital out of the people’s pockets while paying zero tax.
Mike Novogratz blasts US officials for poor grasp of crypto industry
Amid the backdrop of looming crypto regulations that will most likely increase taxes and decrease profits, Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz has come out swinging in response to Senator Elizabeth Warren’s remarks calling cryptocurrency “the wild west” of the U.S. financial system.
The billionaire crypto proponent’s jabs were, of course, delivered through social media, with Novogratz taking to Twitter on Aug. 3 to assert that most U.S. officials have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to crypto:
“Crypto is the future of our financial system and our citizens deserve officials that do their homework to understand this new technology. Most of our leaders haven’t done that yet. We also need regulators and politicians who understand that new ideas need room to grow.”
Circle and Unstoppable Domains to introduce username-based USDC payments
Circle and Unstoppable Domains are working to introduce username-based addresses as an alternative to long-winded alphanumeric crypto wallet addresses to aid the not-so-tech-savvy, a.k.a. newbies and boomers.
According to an Aug. 4 announcement, blockchain domain name provider Unstoppable Domains and stablecoin issuer Circle are collaborating to release readable “.coin” usernames for USD Coin (USDC) transfers.
As part of the partnership, both companies will collaborate to enable support for .coin username extensions across wallets and crypto exchanges that list the number two-ranked stablecoin.
Under this arrangement, USDC transfers will become akin to sending an email, likely mitigating the problem of transferring coins to the wrong address, losing funds forever and living with regrets over one’s lack of due diligence.
Winners and Losers
At the end of the week, Bitcoin is at $42,651, Ether at $2,867 and XRP at $0.74. The total market cap is at $1.73 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap.
Among the biggest 100 cryptocurrencies, the top three altcoin gainers of the week are Voyager Token (VGX) at 94.22%, THORChain (RUNE) at 50.69%, and Ravencoin (RVN) at 44.13%.
The top three altcoin losers of the week are Amp (AMP) at -14.97%, XinFin Network (XDC) at -4.74%, and Telcoin (TEL) at -1.66%.
For more info on crypto prices, make sure to read Cointelegraph’s market analysis.
    Most Memorable Quotations
“We can see Bitcoin on the balance sheets of cities, states, governments, companies, small [and] big investors.”
Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy CEO
“We’re now moving into a world where we have these nonfungible software objects that have unique identities that can actually accept money, pay money and can participate in governance, either in decentralized autonomous organizations or potentially other kinds of governments that can govern themselves.”
Joe Lubin, ConsenSys founder and CEO
“I’m spending five hours a day on everything from regulation to licensing and everything in between.”
Sam Bankman-Fried, FTX CEO
“Primarily, crypto assets provide digital, scarce vehicles for speculative investment. Thus, in that sense, one can say they are highly speculative stores of value.”
Gary Gensler, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
“Crypto is a bit like the parable of the blind men and the elephant. People touch it from different sides. They get distracted and carried away and energized about these different topics.”
Marc Andreessen, Andreessen Horowitz general partner and co-founder
“If you put a gun to my head, and you said, ‘I can only have one.’ I would choose gold.”
Ray Dalio, billionaire hedge fund manager
“Just so we’re all clear here, the SEC has no authority over pure commodities or their trading venues, whether those commodities are wheat, gold, oil….or #crypto assets.”
Brian Quintenz, U.S. CFTC commissioner
“The more people with stablecoins in the pocket, the more people who can participate in decentralized finance.”
Matthew Gould, Unstoppable Domains CEO
Prediction of the Week
Bitcoin chart fractal suggests BTC price will have rallied to at least $80K by September
If this latest bullish BTC prediction turns out to be true, Bitcoiners may soon be able to start driving their lambos on the moon.
Nunya Bizniz, an independent market analyst, posted a bullish prediction on Aug. 1, as they highlighted that the recent rally of around 40% in late July included 10 consecutive days of lovely green candles, and not those horrible red ones that bears love so much.
The analyst noted that each of BTC’s previous 10-day bull runs has ended up with at least a 100% price increase within 30 to 60 days. Therefore, if history repeats itself, Bitcoin’s price may double and surge to new all-time highs around the $80,000 mark.
FUD of the Week
South Korean regulator to reportedly shut down 11 crypto exchanges
Crypto regulations in South Korea may become more stringent after news circulated this week that South Korea’s top financial regulator, the Financial Services Commission, or FSC, is reportedly planning to shut down a dozen local cryptocurrency exchanges amid accusations of fraud.
The FSC will suspend operations of at least 11 mid-sized crypto exchanges in South Korea due to alleged illegal activities and fraudulent collective accounts, according to local media outlets.
The publication cited anonymous industry sources claiming that the names of the exchanges were not yet disclosed, so Koreans will not know exactly what to FUD over until the names come to light. The sources argued that the mentioned crypto exchanges will be unable to get approval for operation by the FSC.
The report also notes that the authority is planning to implement stricter regulations for smaller crypto exchanges in South Korea, meaning that anyone firm that wants to partake in illegal behavior will have to do it on a large scale.
Monero’s former maintainer arrested in the US for allegations unrelated to cryptocurrency
Speaking of alleged illicit behavior, Riccardo Spagni, the former maintainer of the Monero (XMR) cryptocurrency, was arrested last month in Nashville, Tennessee, but not for anything related to crypto.
Spagni is facing fraud charges tied to alleged offenses in South Africa between 2009 and 2011, during his time serving as an information technology manager at a company dubbed Cape Cookies.
Spagni allegedly fabricated additional invoices from a supplier of Cape Cookies, which included inflated prices for goods and services, along with his bank details instead of the suppliers’. He now faces a hearing on Aug. 5 to determine whether he is held, pending trial. If convicted in South Africa, he faces 20 years in prison.
Breaking: BSV reportedly suffers ‘massive’ 51% attack
Bitcoin SV reportedly suffered a “massive” 51% attack on Aug. 3 that resulted in up to three versions of the chain being mined simultaneously.
Speaking about the attack, Lucas Nuzzi, a network data product manager at Coin Metrics, stated on Twitter that “someone is seriously trying to destroy BSV,” and added that:
“For over 3 hours, attackers were able to take over the chain. All exchanges that received BSV deposits during that time might have been double spent.”

Bluehost Review: Is It the Best Host for Your Site?
Best Overall Hosting Provider on the Market
BEST FOR
Best Overall Hosting Provider
OVERALL RATING
5 out of 5 stars
Bluehost is a hosting provider with strong customer service, uptime, and value for money. If you're looking to host a WordPress site, then this is the provider for you. Some of Bluehost's features are stronger than others, though – read on to learn more.
Is Bluehost Web Hosting for You?
Spend a few minutes researching the best web hosting providers, and Bluehost will be on your radar almost immediately – it’s widely used and hugely popular. But what sets Bluehost apart from the pack? Does it have exactly what you’re looking for, or would another provider be a better fit?
We’ll cover the most important deciding factors in-depth, but to start, here’s Bluehost at a glance:
  Best Overall Hosting Provider
4.8 out of 5
TOP CHOICE

Value for Money
5 out of 5 stars
We’ve conducted our own user testing of the top hosting providers, and compared our findings for each provider in order to rank each as accurately as possible. Bluehost’s particular strengths were customer support, server uptime, and value for money.
Who Is Bluehost Best For?
Bluehost’s customer support, strong uptime, and affordable beginner plans make it a dependable hosting provider. If you’re looking for old-fashioned reliability, Bluehost is a great choice. That’s why we’ve rated it the best overall hosting provider on the market.  Bluehost is also the best choice you can make if you’re hosting a WordPress site – it’s earned the title of best for WordPress hosting in our research, and WordPress.org itself has been recommending Bluehost since 2005. We also think it’s pretty great for photography website hosting, if that’s your kind of thing.
In the video below, Bluehost customer ‘Melty Way’ (a grilled cheese sandwich restaurant in Utah) discusses how Bluehost has helped to grow their small business:
Utah-based Bluehost came onto the scene in 2003. Since then, it’s become one of the leading providers of web hosting services, and is currently owned by The Endurance International Group, which also owns competitor HostGator. Bluehost currently powers more than two million websites worldwide, primarily out of its data center in Utah.
Pros and Cons
Bluehost Pros
Dependable     server uptime: Bluehost offers a super-competitive uptime guarantee     of 99.98%
Seamless WordPress integration: it couldn’t be easier to set up a WordPress     site through Bluehost
Budget-level pricing: prices are still competitive even after the     first year, and a variety of tiered pricing plans means there’s an     affordable option for every site
Bluehost Cons
Additional     costs: tons     of optional add-ons will sneak into your cart at checkout, and it’s up to     you to uncheck those items before you buy
Storage: Bluehost offers a     small amount of storage on its Basic plan compared to competitors
Cyber Week deal alert! We’ve spotted Bluehost is currently offering some great Cyber Week discounts, meaning shared hosting prices now start from just $2.65. But hurry – these offers expire soon!
Go to the top
Reliability and Performance
We said Bluehost was dependable, and we meant it: Bluehost has a great uptime guarantee of 99.98%. No web host can provide 100% uptime, so 99.98% is a strong showing – it translates to roughly one hour and 45 minutes of downtime per year. That’s second only to Hostgator, which offers 99.99% uptime.
Types of Hosting and Features
Bluehost offers six different types of hosting: Shared, Shared WordPress, WooCommerce, VPS, Managed WordPress, and Dedicated. We’ve broken down the details of each type in our Bluehost Pricing Review, but generally, you can think of the differences like this:
Shared: the cheapest and easiest     general service
Shared WordPress: the     cheapest and easiest way to host a WordPress site
WooCommerce: the     best way to host an online store with WordPress
VPS: not     as expensive as dedicated hosting, and still good for business sites that     need to go beyond the basics
Managed WordPress: even     more features for your hosted WordPress site
Dedicated: the most expensive,     but also the most powerful hosting service
WordPress and Bluehost
WordPress recommends Bluehost as its number one web hosting provider – and that’s no small feat, coming from a company that’s dealt with innumerable web hosts in its time. If you’re already set on having a WordPress site, then Bluehost is the best web host to go with. And if you’re already set on Bluehost, then you should definitely consider setting up your site with WordPress.org – you can install it through your Bluehost dashboard with just one click.
How to Install WordPress on Bluehost
This step-by-step tutorial shows just how easy it is to setup a WordPress website with Bluehost:
Other Bluehost Features
Seamless WordPress integration is Bluehost’s most impressive feature, but definitely not its only feature. We’ve compiled the rest of Bluehost’s best offerings below:
Domain registration        Bluehost offers a free domain to certain users when they sign up for a one-year plan. However, that perk does not include the domain registration fee (between $10 to $15), which you’ll still have to pay for.
Website builder     There’s a drag-and-drop site builder for those who have an idea of what they want to create, but don’t have sharp enough HTML and CSS skills.
Data transfer          Bluehost offers unlimited data transfer on many of its plans. However, Bluehost also provides CPU Protection – more on this below.
cPanel           Bluehost uses the “cPanel” Control Panel, which is a popular site management system. The company also offers free backups so you don’t lose any key site files.
Storage         Depending on the plan you use, Bluehost offers anything from 50GB up to unlimited storage space for your site files. If all you plan to do is run a WordPress blog with words and images, then the 50GB plan will be fine, as it will take a while to use up that much storage.
The fact that you can get so much in one place is a big draw for customers. When we reached out to our email database for first-hand experiences of Bluehost, Steffi, a consultant, said:
“I used Bluehost, because I could do all in one place: domain registration, email-admin, hosting, unlimited sub-spaces. The documentation was very good and what I needed at the time.”
Pricing
Bluehost ranks highly in our research for value for money, with a score of 4.6/5. The best part? All Bluehost plans come with a 30-day money back guarantee. Shared hosting is Bluehost’s cheapest plan, at $2.95/month for the first year and $7.99/month after that. Dedicated hosting is the most expensive plan, starting at $79.99/month.
Bluehost Starting Prices:
Shared hosting: $2.95 per     month, renews at $7.99 per month
Shared WordPress     hosting: $2.95 per month, renews at $7.99 per     month
WooCommerce     hosting: $15.95 per month, renews at $24.95 per     month
VPS hosting: $18.99     per month, renews at $29.99 per month
Managed WordPress     hosting: $19.95 per month, renews at $29.99 per     month
Dedicated hosting: $79.99 per     month, renews at $119.99 per month
Which Plan Is the Best Value for Money?
If you’re new to web hosting or your site isn’t massive, then we recommend starting with Bluehost’s Shared or Shared WordPress plans. They’re the cheapest, and still offer a decent variety of features. When your site outgrows these shared plans, you can always upgrade to the pricier but better-equipped options.
Bluehost Additional Costs
Unfortunately, most hosting providers will fill your virtual basket with add-on items during checkout. These odds and ends will hike up the price of your plan, but you can always uncheck them before making your purchase.
Learn more about these extra items, and whether or not you’ll need them, in our full Bluehost Pricing Review.
Canceling Your Bluehost Plan
Bluehost’s 30-day money back guarantee means that you get some time to test out the platform and see if it’s for you. But it’s important to make this decision within the first 30 days, because afterwards, Bluehost doesn’t offer any refunds or cancellations.
When we reached out to our email database for reviews of Bluehost, the price of add-ons came up as an area for improvement. One reader said:
“[Bluehost is] pricey. The more add-ons you buy, the more expensive it is.”
When asked about the one improvement they’d make to Bluehost, the same reader suggested:
“Create different level bundles for add-ons and features.”
Security
The best indication of a secure website is an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate. SSL certificates let users know that any information they share on your site will be safe, and these certificates are indicated by the padlock icon and the “https” at the beginning of a web address.
Every Bluehost plan comes with a free SSL certificate, so you never have to worry about visitors getting a warning that your site is insecure. For more advanced security, you can also purchase a premium SSL certificate at $49.99/year. This would be a worthy investment for ecommerce sites, or any site where users will be logging in with a username and password and/or providing sensitive information (like credit card details).
Other free Bluehost security features include Spam Assassin protection, hotlink protection, and Secure Shell access. Basically, Bluehost includes more than enough security measures to get a standard site off the ground – but if you’re looking to scale your site or sell online, you may want to invest in a few extras.
Bluehost offers a lot of additional security measures to choose from, but they can quickly add up and increase your bill, so it’s important to choose wisely. For example, SiteLock Find (advanced security for ecommerce) only costs $1.99/month, but if you want to buy it, it must be billed annually at $23.88/year. That’s still not a lot to ensure the protection of your online shoppers, but it can be hard not to feel blindsided at checkout.
Migration
We know a large proportion of you read our hosting reviews because you’re unhappy with your current hosting provider, and looking to switch. With this in mind, we’ve examined how easy it is to make the switch to Bluehost.
The good news is, it’s pretty simple. There’s a DIY approach we’ll cover in brief below, or you can pay Bluehost to move your site for you. There’s even a bonus free migration on offer for qualifying websites:
1. Moving your own site to Bluehost
Doing the migration process yourself is pretty simple with Bluehost, because it uses the standard cPanel dashboard, so you can follow a general guide to migrating your site (like ours!) without encountering any surprises.
It’s a step-by-step process which can take some time, and people without much technical confidence may feel nervous giving it a go.
2. Paying for site migration
For $149.99, Bluehost will take complete control of moving your site to its servers (You can actually move up to five websites and 20 email accounts for this price).
Bluehost guarantees no downtime in this process, and 24/7 support during and after it’s complete. For many people, just having someone else own this process will be worth every penny.
It’s worth noting that this service is not available for reseller, VPS, or dedicated server accounts.
Not many hosting providers offer such an end to end migration service, so that’s a huge tick in the box for us!
3. Free site migration for (most) WordPress sites
Some WordPress sites are actually eligible to be migrated to Bluehost free of charge! Just fill in the form on Bluehost’s website once you’ve signed up for a hosting plan, and as long as there aren’t any complicated extras, a Bluehost expert will migrate your site free of charge!
Help and Support
Bluehost ranks number one in our research for customer support, earning a perfect 5/5. It has a variety of support options, including live chat, email support tickets, and 24/7 phone support. One user rated Bluehost’s customer support as “top notch,” citing his own experiences with the live chat option:
“I’ve had a few issues caused mainly by my own errors, and they’ve always helped me rectify them. They’re easy to contact via live chat, and I genuinely don’t think I’ve had to wait more than ten minutes to chat to someone.”
…But we wanted firsthand knowledge of Bluehost’s customer support, so we tried it out ourselves. Specifically, we tested the ease-of-use and effectiveness of two important features: Bluehost’s knowledge base, and Bluehost’s live chat. Overall, these features exceeded our expectations by 9%. Although we were impressed in both areas, we were more impressed by Bluehost’s expansive, searchable knowledge center than its live chat capabilities. We would have liked Bluehost’s live chat team to make it clearer how we could reach the same team member again in the future, in case we had more questions.
However, there’s still a lot to like about Bluehost’s live chat feature. When we tested it ourselves, agents’ responsiveness to our questions singled Bluehost out from other top competitors:
“All my questions were answered quickly and accurately, and the conversation felt friendly and natural throughout.”
But it wasn’t just response time that impressed our testers, it was also response quality:
“The agent always responded with relevant and helpful information, often including links and longer replies than I was expecting. They definitely seemed knowledgeable, and in a good position to help me.”
And if live chat isn’t your preferred method of communication, Bluehost offers three different technical support numbers that you can call instead, depending on your needs:
General     enquiries
VPS     and dedicated hosting
WordPress     assistance
A nice thing about Bluehost’s website is that it offers instant answers right on the primary help page for some of the more common issues. Say, for example, you can’t figure out how to transfer your WordPress site from another host – you can click on that issue on the help page, then be shown multiple ways to solve your issue, including a help article, live chat, and the specific phone number you should call.
If you’re feeling especially tech-savvy, it’s worth trying to find the answer yourself on Bluehost’s support forums. It’s often quicker to do the research independently, and it will ultimately provide a better understanding of how a site works.
In general, Bluehost surpassed our customer service expectations the most compared to the three other hosting providers we tested. For example, where Bluehost exceeded our expectations by 9%, HostGator only exceeded them by 3%. Other providers like A2 Hosting and InMotion didn’t even meet our customer service expectations, which started at a baseline of 80%.
Customer Satisfaction
Bluehost customers are most impressed with the platform’s help and support services. One user named Robin wrote:
“I’ve used Bluehost for over five years on my WordPress website. I’ve had a couple of times when my site has gone down due to installed plugin problems, and I couldn’t figure out what to do. Each time they helped me fix the issue quickly. Highly recommended.”
Michael, another Bluehost user, had this to say:
“I’m not a website expert, so I think it’s better to ask someone before I click around and break something. Whenever I’ve had a question, I’ve used the live chat – with an average waiting time of three seconds for someone to join me. I’ve always received a quick, clear answer from a friendly rep in under five minutes.”
Aside from customer support, uptime and WordPress integration are also standout strengths for Bluehost. It performs well in value for money, too – as long as you remember to keep your eyes peeled for add-on costs during checkout. Michael even went on to write:
“Just read everything carefully to know what you’re signing up for. Also, pay attention to the plans and extras – know what your website requires, and simply avoid the rest.”
And we’d have to agree!
Limitations
Many Bluehost customers have expressed frustration with the lack of pre-installed features. It’s true that Bluehost has a lot to offer, but it’s also true that you have to actively pick and choose which of those offerings you want on your site – and often at an additional cost.
Additional Products
We now know about the additional costs that must be purchased outside of your Bluehost plan. But there are a lot of additions that do come included in every Bluehost plan. In fact, the most basic, bare-bones plan you can purchase with Bluehost (the Basic Shared plan, $2.75/month introductory price) still comes with:
50     GB SSD storage
Unmetered     bandwidth
Free     SSL certificate (remember those?!)
1     domain included
5     parked domains
25     sub domains
And if you venture one tier upwards to the Plus Shared plan (at an introductory price of $4.95/month), the number of websites, SSD storage, domains, parked domains, and sub domains all become unlimited. Plus Shared also gives you 30 free days with one Office 365 mailbox, and anti-spam email filtering through Spam Experts.
Final Thoughts
In our overall hosting rankings, Bluehost comes in first, ahead of hosting heavyweights such as HostGator and GoDaddy. In individual categories, Bluehost ranks first for customer service, second for uptime, and second for value for money. It’s also the best hosting provider to manage a WordPress site with.
If seamless features are your top priority, then you may be better off with InMotion rather than Bluehost – as we’ve seen, Bluehost’s extras and additional costs can be confusing.
Our conclusion? It all depends on your site goals – but if you’re looking for affordability and reliability, Bluehost is a solid provider.

Your data is more exposed than you think
Tumblr media
Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) — is the information gathering from the publicly available sources and its analysis to produce an actionable intelligence. The scope of OSINT is not limited to cybersecurity only but corporate, business and military intelligence or other fields where information matters.
Whether you are a recruiter, marketing manager, cybersecurity engineer or just a curious one, reading the article, you will find something useful for yourself. Maybe you want to know what data of yours is out there for others to find or just want to see if the person or the organization that contacted you online is legit. In this article, I will explain how to discover a person’s digital footprint, perform digital investigations and gather information for competitive intelligence or penetration testing.
Many OSINT tools are available nowadays so I’m not going to cover them all, only the most popular ones and those useful in the described use cases. In this guide, I showed a general approach, different tools and methods that you can use depending on the requirements and the initial data you have.
Basic OSINT steps
Start with what you know (email, username, etc.)
Define requirements (what you want to get)
Gather the data
Analyze collected data
Pivot as-needed using new gathered data

Real name
IntelTechniques.com OSINT Workflow Chart: Real Name
Governmental resources
There are dozens of websites where you can find information about people or organizations and depending on the country information openness can be different. I’m not going to write about it in details as the governmental resources I could have provided might have not been relevant for you, as a resident of a different country. Just remember that such resources exist and Google them in need, they are not that hard to find, especially using the advanced search queries I described below.
Google Dorks
In 2002, Johnny Long began collecting Google search queries that uncovered vulnerable systems or sensitive information disclosures. He labeled them Google Dorks. Since the article is about legally obtained information I’m not going to show how to get an unauthorized access, however, you can explore Google Hacking Database with a thousand of different queries. The queries below can return information that is difficult to locate through simple a search.
“john doe” site:instagram.com — quotation marks force Google Search to do absolutely exact match while the search is performed on Instagram.
“john doe” -“site:instagram.com/johndoe” site:instagram.com — hide postings from the target’s own account, but show posted comments on the Instagram posts of others.
“john” “doe” -site:instagram.com — show results that exactly match given name and surname but in different combinations and exclude Instagram from results.
“CV” OR “Curriculum Vitae” filetype:PDF “john” “doe” — search for target’s resumes that contain “CV” or “Curriculum Vitae” in the name and have a PDF extension.
Wrap single words in quotes if you are 100% sure about spelling as by default Google will try to shape your keyword to what the masses want. By the way, what’s interesting about Instagram is with the right Google Dork you can see comments and likes of private accounts.
Perform a search using advanced search queries on Bing, Yandex and DuckDuckGo as other search engines might give you results that Google couldn’t.
People search
There are websites that specialize in people search which can be done providing a real name, username, email or phone number.
People search websites allow to opt out but after people remove themselves from listings new search services appear with their records in them. The reason for that is the same dataset is bought and used by different services. Some companies own those datasets and even if on one of their websites person removes the listing, on the new domain the old data is repopulated again so previously removed profile reappears in the search. Consequently, if people did a pretty good at cleaning their stuff up you have to just to wait for a new database to appear. One of the methods to find people that opted out is to go the people search service, find a unique paragraph, do quoted Google search on it and find all of the domains that the company owns. There are chances that information your target removed from site A is now on site B.
User name
IntelTechniques.com OSINT Workflow Chart: User Name
Firstly, we have to find a username. Usually, it is a name plus surname combination or derived from the email, domain name of the website the person uses or owns. Start with data you have and do a reverse lookup towards what you need. Obviously, the simplest way is to Google any relevant data known to you at the moment and try to find any pages with the username. Also, you can use special websites that do a reverse username search, like socialcatfish.com, usersearch.org or peekyou.com.
Google Dorks
The same Google Dorks that I showed for the real name search will be useful when searching for a username. In addition, URL search might give you good results as usually URLs contain usernames.
inurl:johndoe site:instagram.com—search for URLs on Instagram that contain “johndoe” in them.
allinurl:john doe ny site:instagram.com — find pages with “john“, “doe” and “ny” words in the Instagram URL. Similar to inurl but supports multiple words.
Depending on the complexity of your search and how successful it was using previous methods you might want to generate a wordlist. It’s useful when you need to try a lot of options as you don’t have a clear picture of what username should be but have a lot of guesses. I have used the Python script for generating the wordlist below:
Name and surname were specified in Names.txt, in Terminal we just see the output
Username search
There are a lot of websites with a username search, I find these to be one of the best: instantusername.com and namechk.com. Usually, one service finds accounts that other one doesn’t so it’s better to use both websites. Apart from online services you can use WhatsMyName — a Github project, included in more advanced tools: Spiderfoot and Recon-ng. However, you can use it as a standalone checker running a Python script.
Searching for “johndoe” username on 152 sites with WhatsMyName
Searching you might get false positives as someone else can use the same username, be prepared for that.
Note: Running WhatsMyName, as well as any locally installed tool, could be an issue when you have certain websites blocked by the ISP. In that case, going through proxy or VPN will solve the issue. Moreover, to avoid exposure you should use anonymizers anyway.
Email Address
IntelTechniques.com OSINT Workflow Chart: Email Address
Google Dorks
“@example.com” site:example.com — search for all emails on a given domain.
HR “email” site:example.com filetype:csv | filetype:xls | filetype:xlsx — find HR contact lists on a given domain.
site:example.com intext:@gmail.com filetype:xls — extract email IDs from Google on a given domain.
Email tools
Hunter — performs fast scan of the domain name for email addresses and reveals its common pattern.
Email permutator — generates permutations of up to three domains at which target is likely to have an email address. Supports multiple variables input to generate custom results.
Proofy — allows bulk email validation which is useful when you generated a list of emails using permutation tool and want to check all of them at once.
Verifalia — validates single email addresses for free without registration. To use bulk validation you have to sign up.
Browser plugins
Prophet — reveals more information about people. It uses an advanced engine to predict the most likely email combination for a given person based on name, company and other social data. Then, Prophet verifies the generated email to make sure it is correct and deliverable.
OSINT browser extension — contains a lot of useful links, including ones for email search and verification. Compatible with Firefox and Chrome.
LinkedIn Sales Navigator — plugin for Chrome that shows associated Twitter account and rich LinkedIn profile data directly in Gmail.
Compromised databases
Data breaches have become a big issue and recently we are seeing more and more data dumps. Security researcher, Troy Hunt, collected released data, stripped off passwords, assigned emails to the breach they were involved in and uploaded it to haveibeenpwned.com. While the fact of the breach itself might not be as important, what’s important is knowing the email of the person you are researching you might get a list of services that person uses or at least used.
Another option would be to use dehashed.com. With a free account it works similarly to Troy Hunt’s website but with the active subscription it shows passwords in clear text or password hashes. From an OSINT perspective, we need that to search whether it was used on some other websites — one more way to find out which services that the person uses or at least used. Doing the search by password or its hash shows not only on which website it was used, but also email address tied to it. Thus, we can get target’s emails we wouldn’t obtain otherwise. It’s important to note that if the password is not unique we might get false positives as other people might use it as well.
Phone number
IntelTechniques.com OSINT Workflow Chart: Telephone #
Sometimes people link phone number and email to their Facebook profile, so typing it in the Facebook search might show you the profile. Another option is to look up user-supplied databases of phone numbers, like whocalledme.com. The database is not limited only to America, numbers from Europe can be checked as well. Besides, for those who want something like this, but on the mobile device there are several apps: privacystar.com, getcontact.com, and everycaller.com. There are many reverse phone lookup services and they are usually country-specific so find the one that fits your need.
PhoneInfoga
PhoneInfoga is one of the most advanced tools to scan phone numbers using only free resources. The goal is to first gather basic information such as country, area, carrier and line type on any international phone numbers with very good accuracy. Then try to determine the VoIP provider or search for footprints on search engines to try to identify the owner.
Features:
Check if phone number exists and is possible
Gather standard information such as country, line type and carrier
Check several numbers at once
OSINT reconnaissance using external APIs, Google Hacking, phone books & search engines
Use custom formatting for more effective OSINT reconnaissance
Well, you can see how many resources were scanned. Definitely faster than manual search.
Android Emulator
Many Android apps will work on an emulator without problems but some might not work as expected. For example, Viber has issues with activating with VoIP phone number, as tested on freephonenum.com. However, there are many advantages running apps on the emulator: your real accounts or phone number will be safe as you don’t have to install questionable apps on your phone and you can easily spoof GPS coordinates.
Save the number in your phone and look at Viber or WhatsApp contact list. These services allow adding a photo, biography, name of the owner and this information can be extracted just by knowing the telephone number.
Bluestacks — made primarily for gamers but runs other apps as well. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux and doesn’t require a Virtual Machine to set it up so it installs easier than Genymotion.
Genymotion — widely used by developers but also has a free version for personal use. Works on Windows, Mac and Linux and has a range of virtual devices to choose from. Use this guide from IntelTechniques to set up the emulator.
AMIDuOS — available only for Windows and leverages device drivers from the system to enable near-native performance in Android. It’s fast and has a straightforward installation. However, while the aforementioned emulators can be installed for free, AMIDuOS comes at a price of $10.
Domain name
IntelTechniques.com OSINT Workflow Chart: Domain Name
If the person or an organization owns a website you have to know how to grab information about it. Its investigation might reveal the operating system being used, software version, personal contact info and more. I have to mention that it is advised to investigate without ever ‘touching’ the target’s environment, such technique is called passive reconnaissance — footprinting that involves the uses of tools and resources that can assist in obtaining more information about your target without directly interacting with it. Below I described methods of obtaining information while remaining stealthy.
Google Dorks
Google Dorks is a passive information gathering method that was already mentioned above. Here I’m going to show what queries might be useful during domain investigation.
site:example.com — limits search to a particular website or domain.
filetype:DOC — returns DOC files or other specified types, such as PDF, XLS and INI. Multiple file types can be searched for simultaneously by separating extensions with “|”.
intext:word1 — search for pages & websites that contain the specific word that you are searching.
allintext: word1 word2 word3 — search for all the given words in a page or website.
related:example.com — will list web pages that are “similar” to a specified web page.
site:*.example.com — show all subdomains. Asterisk acts as a substitute for a whole word or words in search queries.
Whois
Whois provides information about the registered users or assignees of an Internet resource, such as a Domain name, an IP address block, or an autonomous system. There are many Whois resources, these are good ones: whois.icann.org and whois.com.
Reverse Whois
Reverse Whois gives you a list of domains that have the same organization name or email address in their Whois record. For example, if you are investigating a company with the name “John Doe Inc” you can see all the other domains registered under the “John Doe Inc”. One of my favourite websites is viewdns.info as it has an extensive toolkit, including reverse whois lookups.
Same IP
Often discovering what site is running on the same server as your target’s website uncovers valuable information. For example, you might find sub-domains or development sites. Often the service provider who hosts this site is responsible for other services as well, use www.atsameip.intercode.ca and www.sameip.org to check it.
Passive DNS
Using only DNS records you can see what IP resolved to the name or what name resolved to the IP. Sometimes that is not enough and that’s where passive DNS records come in handy. They allow to check all the names that resolved to the researched IP, thus you can build a useful history of resolutions. My favourite product is RiskIQ Community Edition because it gives more information than just passive DNS. VirusTotal or SecurityTrails can be used for that purposes as well.
Internet archives and cache
The WaybackMachine can be used to find previous versions of webpages, enabling one to see how websites looked earlier or to recover deleted pages. Archive.today is another time capsule for web pages with the ability to manually add live url snapshots to the archive.
There are cases when deleted pages were not archived but are still cached by search engines. They can be found on cachedview.com or you can request the cached version with the following Google query: cache:website.com. Didn’t find anything on Google? Check the cache of other search engines but keep in mind that the cache shows the last time the page was indexed. Therefore, you might get the page with missing images and outdated information.
You may also like visualping.io — a monitoring service that takes screenshots of the webpage at the selected time and sends you an email alert if something changes.
Reputation, malware and referrals analysis
Reputation is important to know with whom you are dealing with and whether the website can be trusted. In case of any suspicions, malicious activity check using free online tools might save you the trouble of opening the website in the VM or going through other precaution steps. Referral analysis is a search for inward and outward HTML links. Although doing the test on its own is not going to get you precise results, still, it’s one of the methods that might show you connected domains.
www.siteworthtraffic.com — analyses website traffic (users, page views) and estimates how much revenue it could generate through ads.
www.alexa.com —analyses website traffic and it’s competitors, shows what they are doing better and gives advice on SEO improvement.
www.similarweb.com — analytics tool which provides deep information on website or mobile ranking, performance, the source of traffic, and more. On top of that, it does referral analysis.
https://sitecheck.sucuri.net — scans websites for known malware, blacklisting status, website errors, and out-of-date software.
www.quttera.com — offers free malware scanning and provides a comprehensive report that includes malicious files, suspicious files, blacklisted status and more.
www.urlvoid.com — helps you detect potentially malicious websites. Also, it gives more information about the domain (IP address, DNS records, etc.) and cross-references it against known blacklists.
IoT search engines
IoT (Internet of Things) search engines show you devices connected to the cyberspace, think Google Search but for Internet-connected devices. Why is that useful? Instead of actively scanning ports and services with Nmap, for example, you can request already available information about open ports, applications, and protocols. Shodan.io is the most popular internet scanner with public API and integration with many security tools. For marketers, it provides data about product users and where they are located. Security researchers use it to uncover vulnerable systems and get access to a wide range of IoT devices. There are other alternatives like Censys, or it’s Chinese analogies — Fofa and ZoomEye.
Location search
IntelTechniques.com OSINT Workflow Chart: Location
Geolocation tools
Creepy is a free tool that allows data gathering from social networks and image hosting services for location research. The commercial option would be Echosec that costs nearly $500 per month, but if you are a nonprofit or a freelance journalist, you can apply for access to Echosec Pro at no cost.
IP-based Geolocation
IP-based Geolocation is a mapping of the IP address or MAC address to the real-world geographic location. There are many websites that map IP address to location, one of them is www.iplocation.net. When you know WI-FI access points the person has previously connected to — use wigle.net to map them and do more detailed research on Google Earth.
Useful websites
www.emporis.com — database of architecture, provides images of buildings from all over the world. Might be useful to determine what building is on the picture.
http://snradar.azurewebsites.net — search for geotagged public posts VKontakte and filter them by date.
http://photo-map.ru — allows to search geotagged VKontakte posts, as a previous service, but requires authorization.
www.earthcam.com — the global network of owned and operated live streaming webcams which might be useful during location research.
www.insecam.org — a directory of online security cameras. The coordinates of the cameras are approximate and point to the ISP address and not the physical address of the camera.
Images
When you have a picture and want to know where else it is used or when did it first appear — do the reverse image search using Google Images, Bing Images, and Baidu Images. In addition, TinEye’s algorithms are designed differently than Google’s and as such can return different results. Why is that useful? As an investigator, you may find the person by avatar as people usually don’t bother changing profile pictures for the various social networks they use. As a journalist, you may perform an image search paired with filtering to expose fake news. For example, a picture taken on the day of the event searched with date filter range that is earlier than the described event can’t be found earlier. Thus, if the image is found — it was created before the event, therefore it’s fake. If you need a narrow search across the social network Findclone and Findmevk.com for Vkontakte or karmadecay for Reddit will do the job. Also, its worth to mention browser extensions: RevEye for Chrome and Image Search Options for Firefox. Mobile apps like CamFind for iOS might help you searching for things from the physical world. Moreover, there is an Image Identification Project to identify what’s on the image using AI.
The image itself contains a lot of useful information, like the camera information, geocordinates, etc. — it’s called EXIF data and if it wasn’t removed you might find a lot of interesting info. For example, map geocordinates to find out where the picture was taken or get camera serial number and look if there are pictures taken with that camera on the internet, there is a special service for that — stolencamerafinder.com. Image editing tools allow to view metadata, if you don’t need to install a complex program, Exiftool — the cross-platform free software might the thing you are looking for. The third option is to view EXIF data online: exifdata.com or viewexifdata.com. To remove EXIF data you can use a locally installed tool: exifpurge.com or do it online: verexif.com.
Do you need to perform image forensics and find out if the image was tampered with? Use Forensically or FotoForensics online tools. If you don’t want to upload an image online — Phoenix or Ghiro can be run locally. The latter is more automated and gives you more functionality than the above mentioned online tools. Apart from that, working with images you might need to deblur it or improve the quality, so here are some enhancement tools:
Smartdeblur — restores motion blur and removes Gaussian blur. Helps to restore focus and do image improvements which deliver amazing results.
Blurity — focuses only on deblurring images, doesn't provide such many options like the previous tool and available only on Mac.
Letsenhance.io — enhance and upscale images online using AI.
SOCMINT
SOCMINT is a subset of OSINT that concentrates on data gathering and monitoring on social media platforms. I have already described some social media intelligence techniques, here I will complete the picture by listing more of useful tools.
Facebook
Stalkscan — displays all publicly accessible information about the person.
ExractFace — extracts data from Facebook, making it available offline to use as evidence or perform advanced offline analysis.
Facebook Sleep Stats — estimates sleeping patterns based on users online/offline status.
lookup-id.com — helps you to find the Facebook ID for a profile or a group.
Twitter
Twitter advanced search — well, that’s pretty self-explanatory :)
TweetDeck — gives you a dashboard that displays separate columns of activity from your Twitter accounts. For example, you might see separate columns for your home feed, your notifications, your direct messages, and your activity — all in one place on the screen.
Trendsmap — shows you the most popular trends, hashtags, and keywords on Twitter from anywhere around the world.
Foller — gives you rich insights about any public Twitter profile (profile public information, number of tweets and followers, topics, hashtags, mentions).
Socialbearing — free Twitter analytics & search for tweets, timelines & twitter maps. Finds, filters, and sorts tweets or people by engagement, influence, location, sentiment and more.
Sleepingtime — shows the sleeping schedule of Twitter public accounts.
Tinfoleak — shows devices, operating systems, applications and social networks used by the Twitter user. Also, it shows places and geolocation coordinates to generate a tracking map of locations visited. Maps user tweets in Google Earth and more.
Instagram
www.picodash.com — exports followers statistics of a selected user or statistics by a selected hastag to a spreadsheet (CSV). Also, it exports likers and comments.
https://web.stagram.com — online Image and Video Viewer/Downloader.
https://codeofaninja.com/tools/find-instagram-user-id — gets user ID. Usernames might change so it’s useful to know profile’s ID to not to lose the page.
http://instadp.com — shows profile picture in full size.
https://sometag.org — searches for trending hashtags, locations and accounts. In addition, it compares accounts and exports followers and hashtag statistics.
LinkedIn
InSpy — an enumeration tool is written in Python. Can be used to search for employees of a specific organization. Additionally, it can find out what technologies the organization uses, which is done by a crawling job listing for specific keywords.
LinkedInt — scrapes e-mail addresses of employees in a selected organization. Supports automated e-mail prefix detection for a given company domain name.
ScrapedIn — a Python script that scrapes profile data and imports it into XLSX file (intended to be used with Google Spreadsheets).
Automating OSINT
Internet is the ocean of data and looking for the information manually might be time-consuming and not effective, plus automated tools could make correlation you wouldn’t spot otherwise. It all depends on your case, whether you need to use these tools or not, as most of them have a steep learning curve and are required to solve complex problems. Thus, if you need to accomplish several simple tasks — don’t bother installing software, just use online services and standalone scripts I have described earlier. To save some time and have an investigative environment ready, with all of these described below tools installed (excerpt FOCA), you can download Buscador OS — Linux Virtual Machine that is pre-configured for OSINT.
SpiderFoot
SpiderFoot is one of the best reconnaissance tools out there if you want to automate OSINT as it can be used to query more than 100 public data sources simultaneously and its modularity allows to fine-tune queried sources. What I personally liked is scanning by use cases. There are four different use cases: get everything and everything about the target, understand what your target exposes to the Internet (done through web crawling and search engine use), query blacklists and other sources to check target’s maliciousness and gather intelligence through different open sources. The last one is ideal for passive reconnaissance.
theHarvester
theHarvester is a very simple, yet effective tool used to fetch valuable information about the target on information gathering stage. It is great for scanning domain related information and harvesting emails. For passive reconnaissance, theHarvester uses many resources to fetch the data like Bing, Baidu, Yahoo and Google search engine, and also social networks like LinkedIn, Twitter and Google Plus. For active reconnaissance, it does DNS reverse lookup, DNS TDL expansion, and DNS brute force.
Recon-ng
Recon-ng is another great command line tool used to perform information gathering thoroughly and quickly. This full-featured Web Reconnaissance framework includes a good selection of modules for passive reconnaissance, convenience functions and interactive help to guide you on how to use it properly. For those familiar with Metasploit, Recon-ng will be easier to learn as it has similar usage model. If you are looking for something powerful that can quickly check the visibility of your company on the Internet — this is a tool to go.
Maltego
Maltego is an advanced platform developed for analyzing complex environments. Apart from data mining, it does data correlation and visually presents it. Maltego works with entities (people, companies, web sites, documents and more) which you connect for further information gathering about them from different sources to get meaningful results. The distinctive feature of this tool is “transforms” — a library of plugins that help to run a different kind of tests and data integrations with external applications.
FOCA
FOCA (Fingerprinting Organizations with Collected Archives) is a tool for extracting hidden information and metadata from analyzed documents. When all documents are analyzed and metadata extracted it does automated metadata analysis to establish which documents were created by the same user. Also, it does correlation by server and printer. The latest version is available only for Windows.
Metagoofil
Metagoofil is a command line tool that is used to download public documents from websites with the following analysis and metadata extraction. It works with pdf, doc, xls, ppt, and other formats.
Conclusion
To conclude, it’s hard to stay private in the post-privacy world and control what information is floating in this digital ocean. While you can’t control everything that’s out there about you, it’s important to be at least aware about it. It goes without saying, that in the digital age information plays the key role so those who know how to find it will always be one step ahead. That’s what this article is for, to show how OSINT helps to solve a broad range of problems: from marketing to investigations and cybersecurity. However, I have described the only tip of the iceberg and most techniques in the article are simple but still powerful. Therefore, some of the techniques when used in a malicious purpose might cause damage so I expect you will use them sensibly.
While this article was more about intelligence gathering, the next one will be about the preparation phase. Let me know in the comments if there is something specific you want to know about preparing an investigative environment. By the way, what tools and techniques do you use to gather intelligence?

So back in September I exchanged some messages with a complete imbecile called “lala-slave-labor”; then they made a post where they published the conversation, framing it as “crazy person tried to convert me”. Even though all I did was pointing out that their idea of “free speech” was completely impossible, because...
They initially claimed that limiting the speech of bigots is not “freedom”.
However, I pointed out that, when bigots are left free to spread hate speech, this INEVITABLY results in bigots limiting the speech of their victims.
Therefore, Lala’s solution was that bigots and marginalized people should “compromise”.
...Which is against Lala’s definition of “freedom” (see point 1).
Anyway, Lala deactivated, but SYABM was one of the few people who reblogged it, uncritically siding with Lala (because of COURSE he is). Anyway, post under the cut.
For easier reading, Lala’s messages are bolded, while mine are not.
lala-slave-labor + aridara
lala-slave-labor I have seen your posts. Do you honestly believe everything you post? Do you honestly believe everyone else that is sane is with you on this?
09/03/2020 aridara Be more vague.
09/03/2020 lala-slave-labor The shit you post a lot about
09/03/2020 aridara MORE.
lala-slave-labor Shit you were postin’ yesterday, you dense mother fucker.
aridara M O R E
lala-slave-labor Do you fight for racial justice? since you’re a daft cunt
aridara Yes.
lala-slave-labor ACAB?
aridara The system is completely fucked up, from how management completely fails to make cops take responsibility for pretty much anything, to how cops are trained. So more like “tear down everything and start over”.
lala-slave-labor Everything?
aridara Yep.
lala-slave-labor Even how America does elections?
aridara What does the USA electoral system have to do with the USA police system?
lala-slave-labor the politicians set how the cops do their job
aridara Hold on, you mean the USA presidential elections or… pretty much every other political election in the USA? Given that they use two very different systems?
lala-slave-labor The politicians make the policies.
Are you even American?
aridara No.
lala-slave-labor Yet America is a racist country?
aridara Maybe you should ask non-white people in America.
lala-slave-labor I am not-white
aridara With all due respect, you are one and they are legion.
lala-slave-labor non-whites are a hive mind? A collective? We all believe the same things?
aridara No.
lala-slave-labor “you’re the only one and they are legion” you so sure?
aridara It’s similar to your body: every cell has a different opinion, and yet you aren’t dissolving in a pile of molten flesh just because half your body wants to go in one direction and half in another.
lala-slave-labor Do all or 90+% black people hate cops? Are cops killing blacks because they’re black?
aridara 1) I don’t know. Probably.
2) They are much more harsh towards black people for no reason* other that they’re black. (*: Reasons that are directly contradicted by their actions are ignored.)
lala-slave-labor I haven’t been shot or arrested because I’m not white. None of the other non-whites here haven’t been shot. Where are you getting your information?
aridara ……Are you claiming that non-white Americans do NOT get shot? Because that’s wizardry.
lala-slave-labor Mostly by non-white people… Have you been to American big cities?
aridara Fun fact: most crimes involving white criminals affect white people. And yet, white people have literally never cared about white-on-white crime. To your question: no.
lala-slave-labor Because, at least where I live (a 90+% white state, with a sub-10% crime rate), no one gets shot or arrested. It’s big news when it happens, and that’s because it happens…ohhhh, maybe once a year, if not rarer.
lala-slave-labor Where are you getting your information?
09/03/2020 aridara God.
lala-slave-labor What? Straight up… Gee Oh Dee God?
aridara Also lots of people, for They are Her creation, and They are the Many to Her One.
lala-slave-labor How do you feel about gay people? Trans people?
aridara They face a lot of discrimination and should get the same rights as everyone else. Also, I don’t get why transphobes are literally obsessed with genitals - especially those of children. It’s super creepy.
lala-slave-labor God does not approve. And God is just and good. Soooooo
aridara Different God.
lala-slave-labor There’s only 1 God. But which God is this?
aridara In pretty much all monotheistic religions, the name of the god is literally the word for “god”.
lala-slave-labor “they’re all the same”
aridara No, they are not. Christianity is a lot different than Islam, for instance.
lala-slave-labor Islam always kills the gays based religion
aridara Nope. There’s tons of Islam currents that are pro-LGBT.
lala-slave-labor That’s a vast minority.
aridara Fun fact: there were quite a few major currents in the Middle Ages where forcibily converting other people into Islam was punished with exile at best, death penalty at worst. Also, “vast minority” is pretty inaccurate.
lala-slave-labor Have you spoken to many muslims?
aridara Yes.
lala-slave-labor More than 1000
aridara They treat people like ISIS in the same way I would treat, say, Mussolini. And yes. Have YOU?
lala-slave-labor You won’t believe me.
aridara I believe a lot of things.
lala-slave-labor like Social Justice?
aridara But, admittedly, not EVERYTHING. For example… Do you know someone in real life well enough that you know their tumblr username, and yet you have no idea what their name is?
lala-slave-labor No
aridara Exactly.
lala-slave-labor Nice deflection.
aridara I got someone claiming that ten people do that: they know me in real life well enough to know what’s my Tumblr blog, but not my name.
It’s whack.
lala-slave-labor Do you believe in that social justice?
aridara But enough venting.
Yes, I DO believe in Social Justice.
lala-slave-labor Yikes you have a lot of mental illnesses, don’t you?
aridara No. But I have scoliosis.
aridara …You’re searching “scoliosis” on Wikipedia, aren’t you.
lala-slave-labor Crooked spine no I know a chick with that condition But I digress, do people who don’t believe in social justice have mental illnesses?
aridara No?!? That’s like saying that people who prefer Star Trek to Star Wars have mental illnesses. It’s nonsense.
lala-slave-labor Didn’t you recently post “Trump supporters are racist”?
aridara I’m pretty sure that I did. And I stand by it.
That, or they’re ACCIDENTALLY racist.
And honestly, I don’t know which is worse.
lala-slave-labor I guess I, a non-white, is racist somehow
aridara By supporting a massive racist, which fucks over non-white people in general you included? Yes.
lala-slave-labor And an immigrant
aridara Look, if you voted for a guy so racist that frikkin NIXON told him to cut it off, maybe you should pause and think about what you’re doing.
lala-slave-labor He’s better than Biden, by miles.
aridara In terms of bigotry or in terms of competence?
lala-slave-labor Both
aridara Because we’re talking about the guy who managed to bankrupt a casino. Multiple times. How the FUCK do you manage to bankrupt a casino.
lala-slave-labor That’s retarded, bro
aridara I guess if you get bombed, or if there’s some kind of natural disaster… But neither of these applies to Trumpadilladilladome, house of the Drumpatilladimmsdimmatrumbadillampadome. ™
lala-slave-labor “he ain’t competent, he let a business go bankrupt hurr hurr” My people, my neighbors matter. The rest of world can burn for all I care.
aridara MULTIPLE businesses go bankrupt. Including ones that, if you start up with some capital (like him), they’re pretty much impossible to bankrupt. Hold on, let me Google it.
lala-slave-labor Trump has been good for my community. We also don’t have many dead by cop black people here
aridara Six bankruptcies (is that the plural for “bankruptcy”?) between hotels and casinos.
lala-slave-labor Outta how many?
aridara I don’t know about the hotels, but casinos have a 100% bankruptcy rate.
lala-slave-labor Yet our economy, pre-covid, was amazing.
aridara 5 casinos. Until he decided to intervene personally, instead of changing the directives of Obama and Bush. Trump Steaks evaporated.
lala-slave-labor I support racism, bro. Nothin’ wrong with that.
aridara As for Trump University [pre-registered laughter] Racism is pseudoscience.
lala-slave-labor “we’re all the same”
aridara In big numbers? Yes.
lala-slave-labor If racism is fake pseudoscience, how come we gotta end racism? It ain’t real.
aridara Because a lot of people still believe that it’s not only true, but a valid science.
lala-slave-labor Where are you getting these sources?
aridara “Oh, look, I proved that black people have a much lower IQ than white ones! I compared poor black people that couldn’t finish school because they had to work to support their own families, and white college students that studied how to solve IQ tests for years!” That was from Stormfront, by the way. Not an exact quote - obviously - but the sentiment was there.
lala-slave-labor And yet I put in less work but got better grades than my white peers. It benefit me, so not a problem.
aridara With all the due respect, you have a Spider Georg situation.
lala-slave-labor what?
lala-slave-labor Is it because I’m not white?!
lala-slave-labor But I don’t eat spiders.
lala-slave-labor Why are you commenting in American politics?
aridara Spite. Also, America influences the rest of the world, for better or for worse. For example, Trump’s election significantly increased the amount of right-winf extremists in my country, followed by a sharp increase in the suicide rate of said extremists.
lala-slave-labor Sorry you live in a country that is so weak that other nations can mess with it. I don’t go around saying “hey, guys and gals from (your country), don’t vote for that guy”. You don’t have that PRIVILEGE.
lala-slave-labor Your country affects America, too. But I don’t go around tellin’ your people who to vote for.
lala-slave-labor Why are you so spiteful? What’d Trump (and/or America) do to you?
aridara Do I have to list all the waya Trump messed up with international politics and encouraged the rise of right-wing extremists in pretty much all of Europe? Not to mention the fact that he is Putin’s ally, to the point of repeatedly breaking the law for free just to save hostile Russian agents?
lala-slave-labor Right-wing bad, huh? You’re the good guys, on the right side of history, yeah?
lala-slave-labor Freedom is absolute. Everyone can say what they want, and it’s not a crime. Someone said a slur? So what, they have that damn freedom.
lala-slave-labor From what my aunt and grand mother said, in Germany, Merkle invited them in herself. Did it to themselves.
lala-slave-labor They orchestrated the fall of the EU. No one liked the EU. There was never any good reason to stick with that fascist hell state.
lala-slave-labor humans yearn, nay DEMAND freedom!
aridara Funny, because hate crimes - including murder - significantly increased. By the way: absolute free speech is impossible. You either limit bigotry, or you end up with bigotry’s victims being silenced.
lala-slave-labor And we have a moral mandate to stop discrimination and hate speech?
aridara I mean, if you don’t want people like us advocating in favor of sending people like you + your families + your friends death and rape threats every single day for the rest of your life. Especially the children.
lala-slave-labor What’re you proposing we do to ensure all is safe and welcome? We can’t just let everyone do as they please, right? I mean, words kill, right?
09/04/2020 lala-slave-labor What do you think of…Yuri Besmenov?
09/04/2020 aridara The idea is pretty simple: if you advocate in favor of discriminating against, deporting and/or harming entire groups of people for no reason other that said groups exist, you go fuck yourself, and people have the right to take you at face value. And I never heard of Besmenov.
lala-slave-labor Freedom is absolute. He called this social justice stuff back in the 80’s, to a T but everyone is pissed at him because he made them (rightly) look like inhuman monsters who hate freedom.
lala-slave-labor Do you want to ban freedom or let people be discriminated against?
09/04/2020 aridara Do you want to ban the freedom of bigots, or the freedom of the bigots’ victims?
lala-slave-labor why do we have to ban either?
aridara Because here’s the thing: every single time “advocating in favor of discriminating / deporting / harming an entire groups of people for no reason other that said groups exist” was freely allowed, EVERY single time it got worse to the point that said groups of people were threatened and harmed into silence.
So, we can’t have both. It’s one or the other. So, what do you pick? The bigota? Or their victims?
lala-slave-labor For no good reason, huh? Is it really because racism?
aridara In absence of any other reason*, yes. (*: Claiming that your reason is X doesn’t count if it is demonstrated that your reason is NOT X.)
lala-slave-labor So what the native populace wants isn’t a valid reason? We should just try to accommodate everyone from all cultures in the same neighborhood?
aridara Did you actually read what I wrote?
lala-slave-labor Yes. Different cultures cannot coexist.
aridara They have. Throughout history. I mean, random example: the UNITED States of America.
lala-slave-labor It’s mostly white, Christians
aridara So are Italy, Spain and Germany, and yet they’re very different cultures. Like the USA. The USA are 50 different cultures in a trench coat.
lala-slave-labor Most of America is white people. Most of America is Judeo-Christian.
aridara So are Italy, Spain and Germany. And yet they are extremely different cultures.
lala-slave-labor They don’t have freedom. Freedom or bust
aridara You don’t know that “culture” means more than race and religion, do you?
lala-slave-labor Do you, as an Non-American, know what freedom is?
aridara Do you? Is it “I can do whatever the fuck I want, and fuck everyone else”?
lala-slave-labor I can cause offense without having the government all up on my ass.
lala-slave-labor I can legally own guns.
lala-slave-labor As long as it’s not a threat or you’ve been asked to leave, you can generally do what you want. Wanna spray slurs on the road? GO FOR IT wanna call entire groups of people names? GO FOR IT The government literally can’t stop you unless you start affecting other people. and no, calling say, gays, mean things isn’t “government gonna stop you” worthy. Can you do ANY OF THAT where you come from? without getting arrested or “given a talking to by the local cops”
lala-slave-labor all you’re saying is “I don’t like x, if you do x, you’re a shit person and I’m better” and “You’re X. I don’t care if I’m wrong, you’re X.”
lala-slave-labor That basically shuts down all conversation. It’s proving you’ve got nothing of value to say. It’s why you and others like you with your points pull that.
lala-slave-labor There is a third option to your question. Don’t get the government involved, and let the people themselves solve the issue. Don’t want foreigners around? Kicked out. And they aren’t wrong for it. Foreigners might radically change the neighborhood to something the locals find offensive and obscene.
lala-slave-labor Unless you can grasp that “let people solve their problems” by taking a third option to your query, stay the fuck out of American politics.
lala-slave-labor Last point: the victim can use freedom of speech to get the bigot thrown in jail. They aren’t helpless…usually. Though, that usually is just the mentally ill ones.
aridara Nope. As I said, either you defend bigotry; or you defend the victims of bigotry. Can’t defend both.
For example, in your scenario, bigots are allowed to call for the deportation of gay and “foreign” (read: anyone of the “wrong” race) people, for absolutely no reason besides “those people dare to exist”. This inevitably escalates into harassment, threats and crimes, until gay and foreign people are silenced and kicked out. Voilà: total freedom of speech is lost, because entire groups of people are now unjustly silenced. We saw this happen literally every time bigotry was freely allowed. Every. Single. Time. But it’s clear that you would pick the bigots. “Don’t want foreigners around? Kick them out.”
09/04/2020 lala-slave-labor Fine, you fucking retard. Yes, I’ll defend the bigots. Now fuck off with that “they might silence people” moralistic bullshit. Yes, it is as you say, people will get treated like shit because they aren’t locals. You’re so fuckin’ hung up on it. “b-but the victims they bsbdoifjweoij” “you can’t defend both” why not? Because I HAVE TO PICK A SIDE Is that how this works?
lala-slave-labor I don’t have to pick a side. People are dying daily in America, but guess fucking what, I don’t have to give a fuck, you European cunt. You’re basically saying “we should protect everyone”. You realize what happens when we strip away freedom right?
lala-slave-labor No one in America genuinely likes you Europeans. We all openly mock you.
lala-slave-labor “but they might kill themselves” yeah and? That’s not my problem. They’re free to do that. So long as they aren’t taking other people with them, far be it from me or anyone else to stop them.
lala-slave-labor If you place the safety of the people above all else, you get tyranny. And if I see any tyranny, it’s my duty as a patriotic American to kill it.
lala-slave-labor Freedom is absolute. It allows people to be harmed by assholes, but if it goes away, everyone will have 0 rights, not just those stupid foreigners you so love to “care” for. But hey, I’m not a tyrant-in-the-making, like some people. Because, newsflash, asshole, everyone is equal in America. It’s literally illegal to be treated like shit by government and jobs because of what or who you are, within reason.
lala-slave-labor You are going to have to restrict someone’s rights. Who, then, will be on the receiving end? The bigots? That rapes their rights. The victims? Again, rapes their rights. Not only that, but it kills the rights.
lala-slave-labor You’re being a moral guardian-type busy body. No sane, rational American liked you assholes in the 90’s with that Satanic Panic bullshit, and we sure as shit don’t fucking like it now with this puritan, social justice bullshit. So yes, I’m gonna defend the bigots. But I’m also gonna defend the victims you say you care for. Because it’s my duty to protect the rights of all within my country. Sure, people might kill themselves, but the alternative is a dystopian “utopia”.
lala-slave-labor So, until you, a collectivist prick, gets it through your thick fucking skull that you don’t have to side with either bigots or their victims, that you can defend both, stay the fuck out American politics.
lala-slave-labor I am not taking your shit. Speak plainly, you wanna make a world where all are safe from being emotionally harmed.
09/04/2020 aridara Are you done? The fact is that you cannot defend the speech of both bigots and their victims. Is one or the other.
aridara Literally every single time I asked people to find me ONE place where 1) “Advocating in favor of discriminating/deporting/harming entire groups of people for no reason other that said groups exist” was freely allowed; AND 2) Where that decision did NOT result into the bigotry becoming way wider-spread and worse, and the bigotry’s victims getting silenced,
- nobody answwred. Because it’s utterly impossible. You can’t defend both. You defend bigotry, you give up the rights of the victims of bigotry. You are not American.
aridara You said it yourself: unless you defend EVERYONE’s rights, you aren’t American.
09/04/2020 lala-slave-labor I don’t have to live by people from Syria, Nigeria, Algeria, Greece, Japan, China, Peru, Mexico, let alone anyone else. You won’t be honest about what you’re trying to say. If they immigrate LEGALLY, they won’t get deported. I’ve been here for 28 years. I came in legally. I don’t fear deportation. Comes with citizenship.
lala-slave-labor If you’re a citizen, you won’t be treated like shit by the government.
lala-slave-labor My father’s family has been here for 200 or so years, if not longer. But we have to share HIS LAND with people who weren’t even born here, that no one has ever met?
lala-slave-labor His side of my family has spent the first 200 years I know of booting foreigners. They don’t have a right to our land. They aren’t OUR people.
lala-slave-labor I’m not gonna stop the bigot from calling blacks niggers, calling trans people trannies, and all other manners of slurs. But I’m also not gonna stop the victim from contacting the proper authorities to deal with it. The issues doesn’t involve us. It’s between the two engaged. But hey, I’m debating a retard online what can’t even be honest about what he’s activisting about. I’m not about to rob the victim, as you keep pointing out, of their agency. They don’t NEED any help. But what can I say? I’m not on the right side of history, am I? Out with your intentions. Lying is a sin. You market your beliefs, removing the negative parts. Have you not thought of the consequences to these ideas? Or do you just not care?
aridara Not what you said. You said that, if the people don’t want to stay around “foreigners” (read: people of the wrong race), then they have the right to remove them from the country.
lala-slave-labor It’s not a race thing, you doofus.
aridara Also, again: there is NO space where freely allowing hate speech did NOT end up with the victims of bigotry being silenced. None. Zero. Nada. Nothing. Which means: you either defend hate speech, or you defend the victims of bigotry. Can’t defend both. In either case, according to you, you are against freedom.
Sucks to be you.
lala-slave-labor RIGHT… As if the victim can’t use their freedom of speech to bring the bigot to fucking justice. Or just fucking walk away! You’re assuming everyone is as weak as you! Insulting. That is not “silencing” you are FREE to make your fucking comments YOU ARE NOT ENTILTED FOR PEOPLE TO LISTEN TO THEM OR TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY it’s not SILENCE SILENCE IS TO STRIP YOUR RIGHT TO TALK them not wanting you to talk, is not silence Maybe them not wanting you to talk for a very good fucking reason It’s not silence, you retard. You know naught of freedom!
aridara Nope - they cannot. Again: if it was possible, then there should be at least ONE space where hate speech was freely allowed, but where the victims of bigots were still allowed to speak.
But there is not. No amount of religious fundamentalism will change that.
lala-slave-labor Then I should be dead. I face those bigots daily.
aridara Give it some time.
lala-slave-labor Give it time?
aridara Hate speech becomes harassment, which becomes discrimination, which becomes violence.
lala-slave-labor What, I’m so weak, I’ll kill myself?
aridara No. It means that the bigots escalate until they straight-up kill you. See for example what happened in America in recent years.
lala-slave-labor What do you speak of? The George Floyd thing?
aridara No, that was just one of the last steps. I’m talking about the progressive worsening of police racism, coupled with “law and order” politics that heavily disadvantaged black people and immigrants, coupled with multiple economic crises and an epidemic, coupled with one of the most patethic presidencies in USA history. Coupled with a president who blatantly aligns himself with white supremacists. Good job: you now are on the brink of a civil war. And your Dear Leader is doing PRECISELY what he shouldn’t be doing in this kind of situation - which ensures that the situation WILL escalate. Enjoy your next six years.
lala-slave-labor Then what is Antifa to you? And BLM? hell, what does Brexit mean to you, while we’re at it.
lala-slave-labor How has Trump allied with white supremacist
lala-slave-labor Where are you getting all this information?
lala-slave-labor ‘tis not the illusion of freedom, that which America prospers under. ‘twould appear as so you are jealous, to be frank.
09/05/2020 aridara Antifa and BLM are a decentralized movement without an actual leadership. Brexit is the result of extreme nationalism, which is notoriously short-sighted.
aridara Among other things, Trump repeatedly employs nationalist policies, and heavily prioritizes attacking non-white immigrants over attacking illegal immigrants.
aridara I get my information from various sources. But my knowledge of how the USA is going towards civil war? That comes rfrom FM 3-24.
lala-slave-labor What’s wrong with nationalism? Are borders bad, or something?
lala-slave-labor Plus, like, everyone who is in a place, regardless of if they’ve been allowed in said place, should just be allowed to like, do as they please, with the full rights of people who have lived there their entire lives, right?
lala-slave-labor So, tell me somethin’, will ya? What’s more important? Freedom or feelings? Because you refuse to answer simple questions, I must spell it out for you.
lala-slave-labor Are you just? Are you on the right side of history? I think I know the answer, but it’s best to get it straight from the horses mouth, as they say.
09/05/2020 aridara Extreme nationalism (like white nationalism - which must not be  confused with nationalism in mostly-white nations, they’re different things) is actively harmful, as demonstrated throughout history. No, I don’t think there should be borders. Again: your feelings on the matter are completely irrelevant. You either defend the speech of bigots, or you defend the speech of the victims of bigotry - there is no magic third option. And yes, I do think that I am on the right side of history.
lala-slave-labor Because people get killed, I have to pick a side?! Are you fucking crazy?!
aridara Yep. You either pick the side where bigotry escalates until people get killed; or you pick the side where you limit bigoted speech.
lala-slave-labor ahahahaha no You’re gonna have to kill me.
aridara Again: there’s no third option.
Literally every single time I’ve asked me to bring ONE example where they defended both bigotry and the victims, they failed. Whine all you want, die all you want; these are the facts. If that makes you die, then you are doomed to perish no matter what I or you do.
lala-slave-labor The just thing to do is to strip rights away from assholes you don’t like?
aridara Stripping the rights of others is not a right. Bigotry, unless opposed, inevitably strips others of their rights. Do the math.
aridara Let me put it this way: if someone unjustly attacks you, and the only way out is to kill them, you have the right to kill in self-defense, right?
lala-slave-labor Every psychopath in history thinks they’re in the right. That’s what having twisted principles will do to you.
aridara But if you are the one unjustly attacking someone with deadly force, and they have no other option except to kill you to survive… do you still have the right to kill in self-defense? After all, they ARE attacking you with deadly force…
lala-slave-labor yep You think this is proving your point?
lala-slave-labor We must be intolerant of intolerance, yeah? Even though we’re the tolerant ones, right? what if I think your words are harmful or bigoted? Do I get to just kill you? Why do you get to decide that? What gives you the right? crap, autocorrect I and me, not you and you. what if I think your words are harmful or bigoted? Do I get to just kill you? Why do I get to decide that? What gives me the right? there, better.
aridara So, basically, what you’re saying is that we should allow the victim to kill the murderer AND allow the murderer to kill the victim, right? You don’t see any problem with this?
lala-slave-labor You see a problem with that? Do you hate fascism? Is everyone on Trumps side a fascist by virtue of being on Trumps side?
aridara You have a problem.
lala-slave-labor yes I’m a retard lol
lala-slave-labor Now answer the question.
09/05/2020 aridara Yes and yes.
09/05/2020 lala-slave-labor Thank you for taking the time to out yourself.
lala-slave-labor If you respond, I’ll have to do something drastic.
09/05/2020 aridara You literally had two world wars where you decided that fascism was bad.
09/05/2020 lala-slave-labor You’re a good little idiot. They will kill you if you don’t keep up, if you aren’t useful to them.
lala-slave-labor And don’t go thinkin’ “I won’t be killed over this by my own party”. Hate to see it, but it happens. A lot. You don’t think BTLM? FUCKING FASCIST!
and then you’re getting death threats. Then they’re attacking you in the streets. You never said Black Trans Lives Mattered or not. But you never said they didn’t.
lala-slave-labor You’ll one day become a fascist to them. All because they keep changing the rules. Eventually, it gets to a point where…enough is enough.
lala-slave-labor You cannot accommodate every identity. Some identities want the rest dead. I’m not the judgemental, tyrannical fascist here. YOU ARE.
lala-slave-labor You have become the thing you hate. Because eventually, you will be branded a heretic.
aridara No, I won’t. Antifas haven’t killed anyone in the USA in the last 25 years. Meanwhile, Trumpers alone have killed multiple people. Same goes for BLM and white supremacists.
lala-slave-labor Is antifa not an organization? They have chapters like you would the Free Masons.
aridara You know how I’m 100% sure I won’t get branded as a fascist? Because I’m not a fascist.
And don’t give me any of that “Antifa calls EVERY innocent who disagrees with them 'Nazi’!” bullshit. It didn’t work with the neo-Nazis at the Unite The Right rally, it won’t work now.
lala-slave-labor Where are the neo-nazis?
aridara And yes, we CAN accommodate every identity. What we can’t accommodate is bigots. Can I replace your eyes? Because they clearly aren’t working.
lala-slave-labor So how do we get rid of bigots?
aridara We need to replace your ears, too. In fact, I think this is a “just throw away the whole suitcase” situation. Anyway, step one is to find a wall.
lala-slave-labor If you don’t accommodate bigots, are you really accommodating everyone? Find a wall? And what, pray tell, will happen once we find said wall?
aridara Get closer to it until your nose almost touches it.
lala-slave-labor And then?
aridara Then you stare at it for the next 30 years, without distracting yourself. Every 6 months, make some kind of noise so that we can know that you’re still alive.
It’s very easy. While you are at it, think about ONE single space where bigotry was freely allowed and you could accommodate for both bigots AND their victims.
lala-slave-labor Is that what you’re calling execution?
aridara No.
lala-slave-labor That’s the part where you shoot them in the head for being a bigot. I’ve seen videos of that happening. Hundreds.
aridara Nope.
lala-slave-labor Let me guess: fake news meant to make the good guys look bad.
aridara No, it means that’s not what I am doing. Of course, there’s always The Alternative. But you won’t like that.
lala-slave-labor The Alternative?
aridara Yep, The Alternative.
lala-slave-labor And that is?
aridara Are you sure that you want to know it?
lala-slave-labor I wanna be on the right side of history.
aridara Because it would require to sacrifice a fundamental part of what makes you “you”.
lala-slave-labor And that is?
aridara Your concept of “freedom”. Not freedom itself; just the way you are currently interpreting it.
lala-slave-labor Just toss it? Why? What’s wrong with it? Victims killing themselves?
aridara You can discover it only by taking The Alternative.
lala-slave-labor And do what, make America more like Europe?
aridara No. More like how America was supposed to be.
lala-slave-labor And how was that? A place where everyone is/was supposed to be safe from anything they dislike or were uncomfortable with?
aridara No. But you’ll have to take The Alternative to find out.
Are you sure that you want to know what it is?
lala-slave-labor You keep dancing around it. Just out with it.
aridara It’s pretty simple:
Just admit that you cannot accomodate both bigots and the victims of bigotry.
lala-slave-labor And then what? How do we solve that?
aridara The first step is to accept it. You still haven’t.
lala-slave-labor Why? Because it isn’t allowed where you live?
aridara Your concept of “freedom” requires you to find a way to accommodate them both. Your concept of “freedom” is based on the assumption that such a thing is possible.
lala-slave-labor Yes. It is. It happens here.
aridara This is what I meant by “you must throw away your concept of freedom”.
Because you must accept that it’s impossible.
lala-slave-labor Then what’s the correct definition of freedom then?
aridara You have black people killed for no reason other that they’re black. Gay and trans people tortured until they go insane and kill themselves. People being arrested for no charges. You don’t have freedom.
lala-slave-labor Right, that guy I nearly killed was for no fucking reason.
aridara And you sure as hell you aren’t accommodating both the bigots and their victims at the same time. Only the former.
lala-slave-labor Prick deserves a fate worse than death. Why can’t we be allowed to have bigots?
aridara You must accept that your concept of “freedom” is impossible. Only then you can heal. Until then, you are trapped in your delusions. Why you can’t have bigots?
lala-slave-labor Yeah. Why can’t we?
aridara Because if you have them, then their victims lose their rights. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”. So, you must stop bigots.
lala-slave-labor Why do they lose rights? Because some prick is bein’ mean to them? They can’t fight back?
aridara But if you stop the bigots, then they lise their right to be bigots. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”. So you must allow bigotry. But if you allow bigotry, then the victims of bigotry end up losing their rights. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”.
So, you must stop bigots.
lala-slave-labor Good. As intended.
aridara But if you stop the bigots, then they lose their right to be bigots. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”.
So you must allow bigotry. But if you allow bigotry, then the victims of bigotry end up losing their rights. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”.
So, you must stop bigots. But if you stop the bigots, then they lose their right to be bigots. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”.
So you must allow bigotry. But if you allow bigotry, then the victims of bigotry end up losing their rights. And that goes against your concept of “freedom”.
So, you must stop bigots.
lala-slave-labor No I don’t.
aridara But if you stop the bigots, then they lose their right to be bigots.
So you must allow bigotry.
lala-slave-labor I don’t have to stop the bigots, nor do I have to save the victims.
aridara Yes, you do. Your concept of “freedom” requires it.
lala-slave-labor Your concept of freedom is shit. It’s no wonder why both World Wars started in that shithole of a continent.
aridara No, it’s YOUR concept. You want to accommodate everyone’s rights: both those of bigots, and those of their victims So, if you limit bigotry, you are anti-freedom.
lala-slave-labor Why do we have to limit rights?
aridara And if you allow bigots to take away their victims’ rights, you’re also anti-freedom.
lala-slave-labor No.
aridara Yes. You said so. You wanted to accommodate both of them.
lala-slave-labor I don’t have to, nor am I compelled by emotion, save either.
aridara Well, go ahead. Do it. Or perish trying. And if you don’t want to do it…
…why do you hate freedom?
lala-slave-labor Do you even have freedom?
aridara Do you? I’m sure that you don’t.
lala-slave-labor I do.
aridara You either defend bigots, which means that their victims lose their rights, and freedom is lost…
lala-slave-labor I can go around screaming “nigger tranny faggot get the hose” and shit and nothing happens.
aridara …Or you stop bigots, which means that THEY lose their rights, and freedom is lost.
lala-slave-labor I can do that all day.
aridara You are encouraging bigotry to spread. And the more it spreads, the worse it gets. Until bigots kill people.
lala-slave-labor And?!
aridara Which is against freedom.
lala-slave-labor big fuckin’ whoop
aridara Why do you hate freedom?
lala-slave-labor that is what it means to be free.
aridara Hating freedom means being free? Not having freedom means being free? Preserving the freedom of some, but not others, is “protecting freedom”? Is that why they hated you?
lala-slave-labor Right, the victim of bigotry has no rights. The cops will totes just side with the bigot. Is that how this works?
aridara When bigotry spreads enough, yes.
lala-slave-labor Or are you projecting how your not-free hellhole handled shit?
aridara Because then the bigots enter in the police system.
Which is precisely what happened in the USA. It’s not random that 40% of cops are domestic abusers.
lala-slave-labor You’re right, not 40%. It’s not even 10%.
aridara Because they are bigots. And they have spread to the point that they have invaded the police system.
lala-slave-labor And I’m not about to rewrite the system over less than 10% of the cops being shit people.
aridara And nope, it’s 40%. At MINIMUM.
lala-slave-labor No cop where I live is like that. Everyone respects them.
aridara And that’s without going the open white supremacy of many cops. We’re talking “I want an ethnic cleansing” amount of bigotry.
lala-slave-labor It’s only like that in the big cities, which is a small minority of the nation. Good on them. They’re free to do it.
aridara Keep telling yourself that.
lala-slave-labor You can’t save everyone.
aridara Are you feeling this safe because you know that your cops are as bigoted as you?
lala-slave-labor Better the fascist than you subhuman communists!
aridara So it was never about freedom at all, eh? It was only about YOUR freedom - at the expense of everyone else. It was about POWER.
lala-slave-labor Americans first. Foreign scum never.
aridara I find it hilarious that you disbelieved my “40% of cops are domestic abusers, minimum”. You know, considering that you have the exact same mindset as an abuser.
lala-slave-labor Freedom is absolute. If I restrict the rights of one, freedom isn’t absolute. That means bigots get to stick around. But what’s so bad about bigotry?
aridara But by doing so, you are restricting the rights of the victims.
lala-slave-labor You seem hellbent on getting rid of it.
aridara Which means that freedom isn’t absolute. So are you.
lala-slave-labor Oh, it is. I don’t have to pick sides.
aridara Nope. You ARE picking a side, whether you want it or not.
lala-slave-labor “bigot is bein’ mean” okay have fun. “this foreign scum is musclin’ in on my turf” okay have fun.
aridara Letting bigotry spread is one side - one that harms the victims of bigotry and leads towards their rights being denied.
That isn’t “having fun”. That isn’t freedom. That’s AGAINST fredom.
An infinite paradox, one that has only two solutions.
lala-slave-labor The victim needs to grow up. Compromise. As does the bigot.
aridara Nope. Compromise is not freedom, according to you.
lala-slave-labor I have no right to interfere in the affairs of others. Not like some godless heathen like you’d know about that.
aridara And letting bigotry spread directly leads to bigotry interfering with the affair of its victims. Not like some godless heathen like you would know about that. You only have two solutions. One is to give up your flawed ideal of “freedom”.
lala-slave-labor So what’s your real answer? Kill the bigots? They won’t stop being bigots. aridara Don’t change the argument.
lala-slave-labor That’d infringe on their right to life.
aridara Don’t change the argument. You only have two solutions. One is to give up your flawed ideal of “freedom”.
lala-slave-labor I don’t bend to the will of a terrorist.
aridara The other is to give up this existence.
lala-slave-labor Every coin has an edge. There’s a third path!
aridara It is not my will, nor the terrorist’s will. It simlpy IS. There is not.
lala-slave-labor If you loved freedom enough to even consider dyin’ for freedom, you’d know that!
aridara And yet, despite the fact that you loved freedom so much that you considered dying for it, not even you managed to find this “third path”. Because it doesn’t exist.
lala-slave-labor Because of a few assholes kill niggers? Or that trannies get bullied to death?
aridara Because letting bigotry spread leads to a LOT of assholes killing black people.
lala-slave-labor Life isn’t perfect. And it shouldn’t ever be.
aridara Then your idea of “freedom” is impossible.
lala-slave-labor The only solution that will please you is to genocide the bigots.
aridara No, it is not.
lala-slave-labor They won’t stop being bigots.
aridara And?
lala-slave-labor Bigots have no place in this world, right? Hell, not even in this universe, no?
aridara That’s what YOU think.
lala-slave-labor It’s the logical conclusion to your extremist ideology.
aridara Nope.
lala-slave-labor Said it so yourself. Bigots must be removed.
aridara Nope again.
lala-slave-labor Putting people into a corner gonna change them?
aridara Who said anything about change?
lala-slave-labor That violates their right to speech, of free expression.
aridara And their bigotry violates their victims’ right to speech. Your point?
lala-slave-labor How?
aridara Just like your ideal of “freedom” cannot exist,
lala-slave-labor Why? Because of a few assholes?
aridara your idea of what MY beliefs are… doesn’t actually exist. You just delude yourself into rejecting reality.
lala-slave-labor What does Karl Marx mean to you?
aridara That is how you manage to claim that you are defending freedom for everyone, while simultaneously admitting that your beliefs cause entire groups of people to lose THEIR freedom.
lala-slave-labor Who says they’ve lost their freedom? Someone with 0?
aridara Because you delude yourself into ignoring reality and how it contradicts your beliefs. See, you aren’t even responding to my words anymore. You just rant about whatever you wanted to rant before.
lala-slave-labor No.
aridara Because you ignore anything that hurts your feelings.
lala-slave-labor I was in middle of something else that required my attention.
aridara This conversation is pointless. Farewell.
lala-slave-labor  could not send It’s pointless? Because you can’t convince a wet paper bag?

Return to Sender: Email Marketing Is NOT Dead, But It Needs Rejuvenation
Oh, look. Another death of email marketing headline. All too often, we see posts that lead with this provocative clickbait proclamation, while keeping the contradicting nuances under the surface. Ironically, this kind of practice is exactly WHY email marketing has seen its reputation tarnished. The focus has shifted too far toward style at the expense of substance. Marketers became so singularly obsessed with compelling opens and clicks, through irresistible subject lines and poppy CTAs, that many of us lost touch with the core value of this digital channel: direct, one-on-one engagement. I’m here to tell you that this value still exists, and might be more essential today than ever, in spite of (maybe even because of) the waters becoming so muddied. Recipients will welcome a little freshness and clarity in their inbox, from those brands and influencers that are willing to buck the trend. Dead? No way. Email marketing is alive and well, and it can still be a central component of a successful, customer-centric marketing strategy when done right.
The Rise and “Fall” of Email Marketing
This life experience might be unique to fellow millennials, but I’ll never forget the jolt of excitement I felt as a preteen logging into America Online in the mid-90s and hearing those three magical words: “You’ve got mail!” The internet in general was too new and grand a concept for my young mind to grasp, but anyone could take delight in a mysterious message sent expressly to you — like a present waiting to be unwrapped.
via GIPHY Fast-forward a couple decades, and the quaint charm of a full inbox has largely disappeared. Irrelevant messages began to proliferate and pile up like AOL trial discs. Spam started running amok, to the point where — as of March 2019 — 56% of all email messages were categorized as such. The sheer volume of messages we receive, and the dread of digging through them all, can cause legitimately troublesome levels of stress and anxiety.  As a result, many emails are now being cast aside, either because inundated human users click delete instead of open, or because increasingly stringent filters are diverting them to the spam folder — especially if they come from a company or unfamiliar sender.  There’s no doubt that trust has been shaken. Anecdotally, I’m sure most people reading this have been scarred by an experience where they had to completely shut down an email address because it became overwhelmed by promotional junk, or where they repeatedly tried to unsubscribe from an unwanted newsletter to no avail. It is at times like these that well-intentioned, creative, value-driven marketers can answer the call and rise above the fray. Here’s how.
Rejuvenating Your Email Marketing Strategy
A fact that might surprise you: open rates aren’t in a state of steady, ceaseless decline. In fact, according to Super Office, the average rate has generally been increasing (or at least remaining steady) year-to-year over the past decade-plus: Meanwhile, a new Email Usage Study from Adobe finds that the average person spends 5+ hours per day checking email, including 3+ hours at work.  As Adobe’s Sarah Kennedy puts it in a blog post: “The Adobe survey findings solidify how important email still is in the everyday lives of our customers, and this means there is still a big opportunity for marketers to utilize email to engage with people in relevant and useful ways.” Relevant and useful. Therein lies the key. Here’s how we can pursue these ideals.
Refine Your Mailing List
First of all, opt-ins are essential. If you can’t verify that a person on your list actively volunteered to receive emails from you, remove them. You might even want to consider a double-opt-in (send a confirmation email once a person signs up). It’s better to write for 10 people who truly want to receive your messages than 100 who are ambivalent or worse. From there, any type of segmentation you can do will help. Can you divvy up your list based on areas of interest or specialization? If so, you’ll be able to create different content (or even slight variations of the same content) oriented more toward the specific individuals receiving it. A little personalization goes a long way. Use Email to Build Relationships, Not to Sell
There are multiple problems with salesy emails. One: people generally don’t like them. Two: spam filters tend to be triggered by the terminology used in these messages. Three: they represent a fumbled opportunity. When someone opts into your newsletter and then starts getting overtly pitched right away, it can feel like a betrayal of trust. As a relatively direct and personal form of marketing communication, email should be used to deliver value and build brand affinity. This is not to say you must avoid any type of lead generation elements in your messages, but make them subtle and sparse. [bctt tweet="When someone opts into your newsletter and then starts getting overtly pitched right away, it can feel like a betrayal of trust. @NickNelsonMN #EmailMarketing" username="toprank"]
Speak as a Human, to a Human
Your emails should never come from an address that looks like this: [email protected]. Use a real person’s name in the sender field (an executive or marketing manager or whomever you want to use as the face of your outward brand communications) and craft content in a way that feels human and friendly.  Ann Handley, Chief Content Officer at MarketingProfs, has an awesome newsletter called TotalAnnarchy that epitomizes this genuine vibe. At Social Media Marketing World earlier this year, she gave a talk about creating a newsletter people want to read. Among her tips: focus less on the NEWS and more on the LETTER, make it delightful, and write as if your message were only going out to one person. I love the way Ann frames the present value of this channel as a marketing tool: Email is the only place where people, not algorithms, are in control. [bctt tweet="Email, when it's done well, is like hot fire. It can burn like nobody's business. Ann Handley @MarketingProfs #EmailMarketing" username="toprank"]
Make Your Emails Visually Interesting
This is tricky terrain because different email clients will display images differently (and sometimes not at all) but in general it’s wise to err on the side of making your emails more colorful and lively. Among their examples of powerful B2B marketing campaigns, Campaign Monitor shares this webinar promo email from AdWeek featuring an animated GIF to infuse their content with understated movement.  (Example via Campaign Monitor) Just like on social feeds, compelling visuals can make your emails stand out in a crowded inbox. But make sure you don’t cross the line into gaudiness.
Make Email a Thoughtful Part of Your Overall Strategy
“We need more traffic to our blog post. Do an email blast.” This kind of reactionary thinking is a problematic aspect of email marketing.  As we say repeatedly, promotion should be built into campaigns from the start, and every channel should have a distinct purpose. Connect your email strategy with your goals and give it the proper effort to become a worthwhile standalone piece rather than an obligatory add-on.
Bring Your Email Marketing Strategy Back to Life
The rumors of email marketing’s death are greatly exaggerated. This channel can still be a key fixture in your content strategy if you give it the care and attention it deserves. But like other content channels, in order to maximize its efficacy we need to emphasize quality over quantity, focus on building trust-driven relationships, strike a human resonance, spice up the visuals, and connect it to our larger goals and strategy. When you achieve this, you just may reignite that “You’ve got mail!” spark of wonder that recipients feel when your messages pop up in their inbox. Email marketing isn't the only form of promotion that may be missing from your strategy. Learn how to cure what's been called "invisible content syndrome."
