Summary:  While planning the twins' Birthday, Wanda comes to a strange realisation.

Before the date of Vision's new chosen Birthday came around, of course, they had Tommy and Billy's special day to celebrate. Just something small, quiet, with the people who meant the most to them, the people who understood everything they had gone through to make it to this very special milestone.

Nothing too elaborate or over the top. They didn't need that at all, and this was why Wanda, initially, had come to the decision that Tony Stark was not to know about the party until as close to the date of said party as possible.

Wanda actually liked Tony now, strangely enough. His heart was in the right place, most of the time, and he was genuinely funny. But, well, she could have quite easily believed that either 'Elaborate' or 'Over The Top' was Tony's middle name, if Vision hadn't told her that it was Howard.

Tony had a habit of making events much, much bigger than they really needed to be. Wanda would let Tony know the date, of course, and invite him over, she just wouldn't tell him it was a party until he was actually at said party. That would keep him from making some big grand gesture that could potentially overshadow the rest of the day's proceedings. --

At least, that had been Wanda's original plan, until a conversation with Vision changed her mind, and maybe helped her understand her relatively new friend a little better.

"Tony doesn't really mean to overshadow things" Her fiance told her. "Not always. It's just the best way he knows of showing that he cares. It's always been this way for him."

"What do you mean?" Wanda sat beside him.

"That's how Tony's Father showed his love. Howard didn't really have the time to spend with Tony, but he got him everything he wanted from a material perspective. Tony tries to do things in a similar way, but also, he believes, better. He gives the big gifts, but he's also there himself whenever possible, giving the giftee the time and attention he never got from Howard."

"Oh.." Wanda paused for a moment. "I never thought of it that way."

"You don't really know him yet" Vision shrugged, pressing a kiss to the top of Wanda's forehead. "Tony is complicated, and I know can still be a bit much, but he isn't intentionally making everything about him. Not anymore, anyway, and not to people he likes. He's learning. So long as we are very clear about what we expect, I'm sure he'll try to tone it down. And if not, Pepper will keep him in check."

"That is a good point" Wanda chuckled, leaning into his kiss. --

For the most part, inviting everyone was no trouble, and they easily accepted her request that the celebrations be kept relatively small, and no over the top gifts. Peter had asked, rather shyly, if he could bring MJ, and of course Wanda had agreed. Even after her talk with Vision, Wanda had left calling Tony until last.

"Great! So, what do the boys want for the big '1'?"

"Tony.." Wanda flinched slightly at the excitement in his voice.

"A high-tech tree house? I might be running low on time for that, but if I cancel a few appointments.."

"I really don't think.."

"Do they like bouncy castles? I'll get them a bouncy castle, or ten.."

"Tony, I.."

"Are they too little for their own suits? I'll make them some suits.."

"Absolut dracului nu!" Wanda snapped.

"Easy there Little Witch, you kiss my Robo-Son with that mouth? I'd hate to think he was being corrupted. Any way, I was completely joking about the suits. Those can wait until they're three, at least.."

"Tony.." She warned.

"Still joking. Even I'm not that irresponsible. Besides, you're a little late. Romanoff already called. And Danvers. Cap. Bruce. Bruce was a lot nicer about it.."

"Oh.. they did?"

"Yeah. Message received. No stupid grand gestures or inappropriate gifts."

"I'm sorry.." She relaxed a little. "I didn't mean to make a big thing of it or upset you, I just.."

"I'm not upset. The day's about the kids, I get it."

"Well.. Yeah" Wanda realised that he probably did get it, especially now he had a baby of his own on the way. "Not even just that.. It's been a big year, for a lot of reasons, and some time, all together, to relax and reflect on it.. I think that would be a good thing."

"Yeah, I guess it would. I do have presents for the little guys, though. Stark-ified, but not too over the top.. at least I don't think so. I hope they're not, I admit I'm not the best judge when it comes to this sort of thing.."

"I'm sure it will be fine" Wanda chuckled. "I'd better go, if I don't get the twins up from their nap soon they'll never sleep Tonight. Give my love to Pepper and fetita."

"Will do. One heads up, I got a call from Thor too, asking me how many barrels of mead he should bring. Being the surprisingly responsible adult I am these days, I told him that it probably wasn't appropriate to bring barrels of alcohol to a First Birthday Party, but you might want to tell him yourself to make sure he gets the message."

"Will do" Wanda sighed. She'd forgotten that, to Thor, the word 'Party' was synonymous with drinking, no matter what said Party was actually for. "Thank you for letting me know." --

Before she could even think about dealing with Thor, Wanda remembered that she had to wake the twins. Fortunately, she found that Vision had already woken Tommy and Billy, changed their diapers, and set them down in the playpen.

"I love you" Wanda sighed happily, wrapping her arms around him.

"I love you too" Vision smiled. "How did the call with Tony go?"

"It actually went very well.." Wanda paused for a moment, thinking, then quite suddenly burst out laughing.

"What's so funny?" Vision looked at her, a little confused.

"Tony calls you Robo-Son a lot.."

"I have noticed.. but why is that funny?"

"Well," Wanda chuckled, "I just realised he's kind of going to be my Father-In-Law."

"Oh.." Vision seemed concerned for a moment. "Does that bother you?"

"A year ago, it probably would have horrified me, but now.." Wanda smiled, "No. I could even get used to the idea.."

VIDEO GAMES—Sunday Chats (10-29-17)

There are a lot of video games, and I haven’t done questions in a minute, so those too. Let’s get to it!

ExtraLife 2017

I wanted to throw a PSA in here that Irrational Passions, my “conglomerate” is throwing together our big special ExtraLife show for 2017 on November 11th, starting at 12pm Eastern Time, and we’ll be playing video games and live streaming them for 24 hours from then. What’s on Tap

Two things, that are not games, that I want to mention.

Stranger Things Season 2 is out now on Netflix and I have watched all nine episodes of it. It’s very excellent, and you should take the time to watch the series. It’s fun, and funny, and tense, and has a lot of great relationships between characters.

And actually, above all the amazing things to come out this week in the media world, my favorite, hands down is the new cover album from Ninja Sex Party, featuring Tupperware Remix Party (TWRP). It’s called Under the Covers Vol 2 and it’s legitimately incredible. Easily my album of the year, and I’m listening to it right now while writing this. Dan Avidan’s voice is perfect.

That is all on that front.

The Evil Within 2

So I finished The Evil Within 2! It’s great, very fun, very well made, very polished, and has some excellent mechanics.

I think the weakest aspect of the game really is the story, and specifically in that the performances of the characters. There is just not any one really well done character save for the two major villains of the game.

I actually rolled right into New Game Plus right after finishing it too, and that’s been fun since you just get so much extra points and parts to upgrade your guns and abilities, so you turn into a powerhouse pretty quickly. 

It reminds me a lot of Dead Space 2 weirdly enough, just not quite as excellent. Regardless, it’s still a really excellent game and worth a look, especially if you at all liked the first.

Super Mario Odyssey

Joy.

This game is just purely joyous, and unabashedly so. It just takes delight in its own mechanics and creativity.

It’s just a massive breath of fresh air, in a similar way to how Zelda was, but in a totally different way as well. 

Nintendo has laid out some stellar stuff this year, and Mario is no exception. While Mario has never held the same special place as Nintendo’s other properties for me, this one channels all the best parts of Mario and his lineage and brings that glee to light. It’s excellent, and I’m sure you didn’t need me to tell you that.

Okay, but I mean is this—

Um... Okay. Yeah dude. You do you. Glad you got a Switch and the Mario and stuff...

But really, a lot of playing Mario for me has been falling back in love with the Nintendo Switch as a platform. I’m curious what you think of it Logan! Glad you seem to be enjoying yourself!

No. For sure not. I also didn’t really love their E3 showing, so who knows. I think Sony is gonna have some cool stuff to show, but I think the “Second half of E3″, if that is gonna be anywhere outside of E3, is going to be at PSX, especially after The Last of Us 2 drop last year. With Uncharted fully done now, we know Naughty Dog is likely all hands on deck with Last of Us Part 2. I cannot wait, with that in mind, even though it’s likely still 2019. But I think PSX will see the reveal of Sucker Punch’s next game, so I don’t know what that leaves for Paris Games week.

This is a great question! It’s hard to pin down, and I’m honored to say some of my favorite things I’ve read this year have been on IrrationalPassions.com. But outside of that, I wanna give a shoutout to Jason Schreier’s unveil of what went on with EA and Visceral, from this very week.

It’ll be in the Checklist section, but it’s kind of the first of these big exposés I’ve sat down and read all the way through in one sitting, and it was phenomenal. It really opened my eyes to the different kinds of struggles that studios can run into that I had no perception of at all. It’s a fantastic read, and an even better story.

I mean, yes. And no.

Taking into account that I know you, and I know you don’t really like 3D games and games of that ilk, of course, yeah I get it. Taking those big ones out, games like SteamWorld Dig 2, Stardew Valley, HiveSwap, Shantae, and more can’t carry a year like the heavy hitters in the 3D space. But I think you have to take that step back and look at the wider "games” as a whole. 

To use me as an example, I don’t like Wolfenstein nor do I plan on playing the new one, or Battlefront 2, or Call of Duty World War 2, those are the big games that don’t click with me, but that doesn't mean those games can’t be incredible, and just because I don’t like them doesn’t mean they’re not great or incredible, but my appreciation of them will be different. But that’s my critic’s perspective.

I think that’s okay, but I’d encourage you to keep trying those games you typically don’t like and search for something in them that you can find and enjoy. I’ll try the betas for Battlefront 2 and CoDWW2 and try and try and look for something I like even if I can’t find it, because I’d rather waste my time looking for the good then take the easy road of assuming the bad.

But eh. That’s just me being a goody two shoes as always.

Yeah, it does! I would love to see that extend out to Bandai Namco! Getting games like Dark Souls, and the upcoming Code Vein on Switch would be excellent. But more over, I think they’d be shrewd, and quiet, like the Bethesda team up. Bandai Namco isn’t the biggest publisher, not even top three, but it covers another niche of games that Nintendo can draw to its platform. Those kinds of players maybe are to chopped on what system they play on, just how enjoyable that experience is. Going the obscure route has worked so well for them, and I think this could work to.

Plus I really want a Dark Souls remaster/re-release with some new features/better frame rate, and it being on Switch may be even better.

Princess Peach, Princess Zelda, and Samus Aran. 

We’d have tea and crumpets, and discuss cute color combinations and space ships, because I think all four of us would have some broad, sweeping opinions on all of the above.

Another good one, a bit more serious, is Nathan Drake, Marcus Fenix, and... Well, Samus Aran again.

Can I just have a date dinner with Samus Aran?

And hear me out, because the wolf would probably kill me a lot slower.

But the same shit with Octopi that is with spiders, which I hate. Octopi got too many legs, and I just don’t wanna fuck with it. And it’d be all slimy. And I know both would ultimately kill me, because Octopi do NOT fuck around, but I can like, imagine the Wolf is a cute fucking doggo and be slightly less sad about it.

Also like, then I’d get to see a wolf, which I’ve always wanted to see, and I never want to see the sea-spider for as long as I live.

He is a v. v. handsome boy Cameron and you should be proud.

I think it’s definitely up there. I love it for sure. I love that it’s doing something different on Netflix, and blending this weird nostalgia and referential material into a really cohesive and well made original thing with its own ideas and things to say.

And these latest season has a ton of Ghostbusters so I’m a fan.

I just love this shit. I hadn’t seen it, but it shows the tenacity and ingenuity of players from all walks of life. What I’d really like to see, and it’d be hard to set up, but having all six players on six screens in the same room so the Shadow Realm folks  didn’t need to say anything, and the ones outside could just look and know. It’d be super rad, and we may be able to do this at ExtraLife, but we’ll see.

I love making new and original solutions to problems, and just like I said with the whole jargon-discussion when we played the raid, this is this team making their own jargon for the raid.

This is the first one of these I’ve actually really read, at least since Klepek’s last one I would have read. And it was fascinating. I have so many thoughts and feelings on this piece, and I know Schreier has a book out about them, and did one for Mass Effect earlier this year, but this is the first one I’ve ever really sat down and read. And it’s phenomenal. And eye opening.

This is a weird story for sure. And I wish i could talk to Patrick about it. It’s invasive, but it’s also incredibly well reported, and I think clears up a lot of the misconceptions in the situation. There are no biases in Patrick’s writing. It’s really excellent, and help me get a grasp of what went on on Gaf. And I appreciate it.

Florians:

@kinglyben: I actually think he and @malfaeryx make a ton of sense! After all, he’s our king and she’s, like, the unofficial princess of the Isle - it’s a smart move in uniting our worlds and they seem really happy together; plus, if she’s with him, she’ll probably never go evil, which is good considering she probably has dragon-powers and that would be terrifying. But if it ever didn’t work out with Mal for whatever reason, I think I would pair him with one of the following: (A) a royal from Auradon who knows how to play the political game and can take some of that stress off his chest - I used to ship him and @eveningstardubois for this very reason, or may as I be so bold as to suggest myself or (B) another Isle girl who’s poised and beautiful and has a big heart and exemplifies how good someone from there can be so even the oldest of old stuffy people here in Auradon are forced to admit that they’re a-okay - my nomination is @dizzy-t, because really, who wouldn’t love her as their queen?

@chloeoftheball: Chloe is super sweet and pretty and smart, so I’m selfish and ship her with my brother tbh. Chad could definitely use a girl like Chloe around, and how cute do their names sound together? Chad and Chloe, Chloe and Chad. But if she doesn’t want to marry into my family, which is ridic because who wouldn’t, there are some other guys she’d be just as adorbs with. @ticktockbents or @lucasbelrose would be a good place to start - who doesn’t think that childhood friends growing up to fall in love is an adorable love story, right? Or, oooh, that @heathlemon might not be a bad fit for her either! He’s another nerdy-but-hot type and I’m not saying a couple has to have everything in common but it helps! And they’re smart in different fields, one in science and one in literature, so it’s kind of like opposites attract, right? I’m onto something here, I can feel it in my fingertips!

@lenflorian: Ugh, I love Len so much! My fellow young blondie and royal gorgeousness deserves someone way awesome. I can’t quite picture her with any of the castle boys she grew up with, though; she needs someone outside of the box. Maybe @maggienottingham? That girl is fierce and interesting and knows how to act like a royal, which is tres important when it comes to marrying into the royal family. Buuut I guess @berniewijanto could fit this role too, if he wanted. He’s so so weird but it’s in a really fun way and Len deserves all the fun in the world. I just wonder whether or not he’d look as good in a crown as Maggie would. One way to find out! Oh, oh, or @gastonlegume3! Since he’s the non-taken Gaston and also kind of seems like the nicer one? He and Len would look so so good together! And I could kind of see them getting along, actually.

Dubois:

@liamdubcis: I am officially writing too much about all of them, ugh, I need to chill out, but it’s hard! Especially when it comes to people with multiple options like Liam. I think if I had to pick just one for him it would be my cousin @ava-tremaine. I’m all for all of my little Tremaines ending up on some throne because let’s face it, they’re all regal and gorgeous as heck. Ava keeps it real and she’s hilarious and gorgeous and she and Liam could be interesting together but I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that he and @faciliersfreddie would make way too gorgeous of a couple. Plus they’ve got that star-crossed angle working for them, they’re musically gifted, and can we talk about their faces?! Good Lord, if they had a baby, it would be automatically the most beautiful baby in the world. Maybe we shouldn’t ship them because of that, because of the unfair gorgeousness that is their faces side by side, but I’m a sucker for beauty!

@eveningstardubois: She and @kinglyben were so what I expected but I guess it’s been long enough that we can officially call them friendzoned, sigh. Since she’s proven to like Gamma Chi boys, what about @emmettvardaros? He’s single now and proven to be a good boyfriend, which is what Miss Evangeline needs. Plus he’s kind of got an Auradon’s Most Eligible Bachelor thing going on about him, and sorority and fraternity presidents ending up together? Wouldn’t it be so romantic?! And imagine the mixers that would be born from it. If that doesn’t tickle your tastebuds though, maybe her and @happyevieafter could make it work! Let’s do the math - they’re both gorgeous, both close to the crown, both good at seeming royal, and Evie could make sure Evangeline was always the best dressed at any event. I mean, Lina did throw Evie a ball last year, hello?! And it’d be the easiest thing ever for them to double date with Ben and Mal, oh gosh, I’m convincing myself!

@jimdubs: I used to ship @abigailtremaine with Liam when it came to the Dubois brothers, but upon further reflection, I think Jimmy might be more her speed. And that’s assuming she doesn’t stay with her fittie of a boyfriend, but hey, weirder things have happened! Jimmy is hot and funny and has a voice like melting butter and my cousin has proven to like at least two of those things. If Jimmy and Abby don’t work for you though, I would also be down for him and @lexi-la-bouff. I know everyone expects him and @maddielabouff and trust me, I love the girl - she’s a great riding partner - but it’s sooooo cliche at this point and his little Valentine’s Day video? It was more amusing than it was heart-warming; maybe that’s because everyone’s pairing him with the wrong La Bouff! And Lexi is sweet and adorable and who knows what could possibly happen?! 

Tritons:

Melody: Okay, there are more Tritons than any other royal family so I’m going to try really REALLY hard to limit my rambling. I like Melody and @parkerspan, I always have. And didn’t Parker’s dad have a thing for the Neverland mermaids? Maybe it’ll be like father, like son. 

@harmonytriton: She and @zoetomago have the robo-girl thing going for them both and they’d look presh together, but idk if I want to pair her up with someone who could help her build something scary. Maybe I’ll say @regdubois. He seems her speed.

@toritriton: Why did she and @viperbubbles break up again? Does anyone know? Because I sure don’t and I can remember a time where I thought they were the cutest thing with four legs soooooo……. If you’re forcing me to pick another option, I like her and @frankiefearless too.

@olivia-triton: I like her and @dylan-donati! I think they’d be really compatible and Dylan seems like the kind of guy who’d treat a girl right, you know? Plus he can cook! Oh, or her and @briannakluck! I think they would look so so pretty together.

@littlejoanna: JoJo! She’s so presh and I adore her which means I know she needs a beach bum if they’re going to make the distance. I’ll say a Kawena, tbh - @hokukawena maybe, how cute would that be? But also she and @racheladale would probably have fun every day soooooo idk! Oh, or @hasira-mwitu! Running on the beach together would be so hot!
