Older Bat-Sis: Beats
Request: More older Batsis content please 💕
A/N: I have missed this.
>>>>——————————>
Already you were dreading the following 18 hours, having woken up on the worst day of the year - the day that set both your anxiety and paranoia on edge as you continued the unwilling ritual.
It was on this day that you were most grateful for living alone, you'd locked all windows and doors not that it'd do much good against lock-pickers but it brought you time at the very least. Time to escape.
.
An ominous ringtone sounded that rattled you to the brink of full consciousness and alerted you to exactly who was calling.
"Morning Bruce, what's up?" Came your raspy voice, yawning as you got the words out.
"What's up? I'm wishing you happy birthday, I do this every year at the same time (Y/n), you should know this by now."
"I know, I - wait! Who's in the Manor right now?!" Urgency took over, and Bruce automatically sensed the worry in your tone.
"What do you-" Before he could finish you had cut him off with something he couldn't argue with.
"Tell me exactly where they are Bruce, I'm serious."
"Dick is at the breakfast table with Damian, Tim is down in the Batcave and Alfred is on his way over." Bruce gave an exasperated sigh, it was too early for this nonsense but he answered you honestly knowing that he was probably the only one you could trust today.
"Okay... that's 3 accounted for, where's Duke and Jason?"
"Duke is out studying and lord knows where Jason is. All the best (Y/n), I hope your training helps." He finished, estimating Alfred should arrive soon.
"Thanks Batdad, I'll see you later."
.
It was no more than 30 minutes after you'd hung up that you received a knock on the door and there stood a pleased Alfred who you instantly embraced out of sheer happiness.
"Ah Miss (L/n) be careful, I put a lot of effort into making this. It's your favourite." The Butler explained, placing a box of handmade confectionary on your counter and you couldn't help but thank him as he handed you a card whilst engaging in idle conversation as you prepared beverages.
However, the moment was disrupted by the rhythmic thud of heavy boots and you couldn't help but glare at the smirking intruder whilst readying a defensive stance.
"Now now sis, you may've evaded me last year but I've got you this time."
"Doubt it Little Wing. Alfred it was a pleasure I love you very much and there's a cup of tea ready for you so please enjoy it during my absence." You politely informed, knowing Alfred favoured your tea before dodging Jason and swiping his grappling gun in the process. He came after you of course, but you side stepped toward the window and as your brother skimmed your wrist he tumbled to the floor courtesy of your precautions.
"You booby trapped your own home?!" Jason reprimanded, untangling the rope knotted around his ankle that left you with a running start.
"Oh my goodness gracious Jason, you've been bamboozled!"
"Damnit (Y/n), that’s copyright!" You barely heard his embarrassed shout as you grappled over to the next building with an echoing laugh.
.
You'd raced across Gothams skyline with a varying degree of grace but your new destination was Selina's place as at least she’d be on your side - however you were suddenly swept off course, wind racing through your hair as the light of early morning spiralled around you before drifting to a halt with feet once again on the concrete.
"Happy birthday beautiful, should I ask why you're running across buildings in your slippers?"
"You know why West." Your eyes narrowed at the charming speedster, knowing he’d been in the loop regarding this tradition for years.
"You're right, speaking of, I'm here on behalf of Dick and Damian - your presence is required at the Manor." There was a hint of sympathy in his tone but ultimately he was enjoying seeing you like this.
"No, Wally please! I'll do anything, don't take me back there!" You grabbed his shoulders, forehead resting against his chest to accompany your sincerity.
"(Y/n), you know your brother is my best friend." He said it as a statement, like it had already determined your fate though he did not want to follow through with it.
"We're friends too! I'll buy you food for a month! Wally I will literally marry you if you save me from them, please!" You gazed up at him with a hopeful yet mischievous expression but apparently it was no use.
"I'm sorry." With that you were rushed off of your feet once more.
Within moments you were in Wayne Manor, Dick happily grinned, stepping closer to your glaring figure as you stepped back only to bump into his partner in crime.
"Nice work Wally, sorry (Y/n) but I had to use all of my resources this year including Damian."
"With my help, the family will not fail beloved Sister.” The youngest Wayne approved, though you weren’t certain he knew the history of this sibling war.
Fortunately Cass appeared in the lounge area just in time, you waved over to her and with the girl being informed of your situation prior to your birthday she instantly jumped Dick as you took the opportunity to take the exit but your efforts proved futile when Wally beat you to the doorway. You heard a muffled sound of victory from the eldest brother but much to your surprise the speedster before you leant on the doorframe, a hand running through his hair and a wistful sigh escaping his lips.
“You owe me a wedding ring.”
“Thank you!” With that you took your exit leaving two frustrated brothers in your wake.
“Speedsters are useless! Titus after (L/n)!”
Now you knew the Manor well but there was no escaping a determined Damian and you weren’t completely surprised when he caught you off guard and had you cornered with an excitable canine by his side.
“Damian, my youngest and favourite sibling, do you know what they’re doing?”
“Grayson told me it was ‘Birthday Beats’.” He spoke the term somewhat questionably, suggesting he wasn’t familiar with it’s meaning.
“And did he tell you what that entailed and why they’re doing it?” You replied with skepticism, hoping that you’d be able to use this to your advantage.
“No...”
“Hm, then let me tell you everything.”
.
After that encounter you were able to remain undetected for the majority of the afternoon, returning home to change and finding a thank you note from Alfred and a gift from Jason for the drinks as they’d obviously caught up after you’d escaped. It wasn’t until you were brought back to the Manor for dinner which was, as agreed, time out to enjoy the meal and company of the family to celebrate and converse. After that it was a free for all and you found yourself caught between Dick and Jason.
“Gotcha!” The two smugly commented in unison, Dick continuing with his taunting.
“Your streak ends here master, sorry to ruin it.”
“TT - you will not be harming my sister! No matter how trivial it may be.”
“Yes Damian!” You celebrated as he revealed himself and stood by your side, you rustling the boys hair in a playful manner before smirking at the two dumbfounded vigilantes.
“(Y/n) has given us Birthday Beats without fail every year since we’ve been apart of this family and we haven’t gotten her once. Why are you on her side anyway Demon Spawn?” Jason could only give an exasperated sigh once he’d finished his passionate justification accompanied by varying hand gestures.
“Because I like (L/n) more than you Todd. That and we struck a deal.” Damian was relishing in pissing of the Outlaw but nodded signifying it was safe for you to leave without fear of losing your streak.
.
Upon leaving the Batcave you were greeted by a gleeful Stephanie but you knew better than to trust her on today of all days.
“Where is he Steph?”
“(Y/n) I can’t just give up my boyfriend, I’m on his side.” The girl pouted, hoping her facade would last longer than 2 seconds.
As you were already on high alert the sudden appearance of Duke and Tim was expected, unfortunately you had 10 minutes left until midnight but that was a stretch considering you were out of options. You’d evaded them for a good 8 minutes but Dukes abilities were incredibly useful in predicting someone’s next moves thus it became inevitable that you’d lose after all this time.
“C’mon guys, it’s late. Shouldn’t you be asleep?” Was your feeble attempt.
“Not gonna happen, you’re the only one besides Barbara, Cass and Damian that haven’t had Beats (Y/n) and that injustice has gone on long enough. From what I hear anyway.” Duke playfully shrugged, more excited to boast to Dick and Jason that Tim and himself had succeeded where they’d failed.
*SMASH*
The sound surprised everyone, the three of you rushing out to the origin as defending the Manor came before any games you’d decided to play but much to your relief you discovered a calm Alfred sweeping up the remnants of a shattered antique.
“Sorry for the disturbance, damn thing is heavier than I thought.” The butler sighed, rolling his eyes as he continued his chore.
At that moment the clock struck midnight and instantly you released a joyous celebration.
“You’re kidding me, we were so close this time!” Tim held the bridge of his nose but went along with Duke to no doubt inform the others that they were unsuccessful in their final attempt.
“Next year (Y/n)!”
“Thank you Alfred, I owe you.” Came your knowing gratitude, assisting in cleaning up the mess with a sly smile.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, accidents happen all the time around here Miss (Y/n). But, you know how I like my tea.” Alfred responded without any hint of mischief whatsoever but the last statement proved your assumptions.
.
At 00:07 you strolled into the kitchen, the same place you met your father on your birthday year after year and like always he was waiting for you with a newspaper in hand and drink for you on the table.
“What did it cost you this year?”
“My spare keys to the Batmobile for a month, a Ming Dynasty Vase, I’m also engaged now and Jason ate one of Alfreds confectionaries. The highest price I’ve ever paid by my calculations.” You slumped your head into your arms with a sorrowful expression as Bruce shook his head.
“For a start that vase was a replica made specifically for this situation so don’t worry about that and you’re welcome. As you remain unbeaten Barry will be shocked to hear of it.” Your father smirked, a proud look in his eyes as he chuckled to himself.
“You and Barry placed a bet?” You raised a brow at the billionaire before you who could only smile in return before answering your question.
“We did. Barry thought with his nephew helping Richard, your streak would finally be broken this year. But he severely underestimated how ‘whipped’ Wallace is for you.”
“I’m just getting over the fact you are using the term ‘whipped’ right now.” You couldn’t help but release a breathy laugh, smugness in your voice as you pointed to your father as it fell silent for a couple of moments whilst you took a sip of your drink.
“...”
“You have a spare key to the Batmobile?” It was as if it had just properly registered, tone more serious than previously and you had to quickly bring up a more threatening subject to focus on to prevent you getting into trouble.
“Whah - nooo - actually Batdad since I’m getting married can you walk me down the aisle? Yes? Great - thank you!”
“Married? - To who?! (Y/n) this isn’t over!” He called after your retreating figure, no doubt you’d be getting ‘the talk’ as soon as he discovered their identity.

The Case for Vivian Stoll Being the Big Bad...
*Disclaimer:  I’m a forever Jason Dohring stan, who’s afraid if he goes back up in those fruit trees we’ll never coax him back down again.  So when it comes to Chase Graves?  There’s a bit of confirmation bias here.  I’m pulling for him to survive the next episode, preferably outside of a cell or a freezer.  I can’t believe I spent almost 3 days rewatching and writing this up.  I like to tell myself I’m being Veronica Mars, but I’m probably closer to Bo John.
Tumblr media
Personally, I LOVE Vivian Stoll.  There aren’t enough ruthless female villains in fiction, by far.  I was really looking forward to what lying liar, RT was planning to do with her this season, and was really disappointed when she was “killed” off.
Her motive?:  Zombie Island won’t be ready for another 1.5 years, and she is  beyond ready for D-Day.  For somebody who could rattle-off the time span between the July 4th retreat and Wally’s murder (21 months and 21 days), I can’t see her sitting around waiting for disaster.  She peddles worst-case scenarios, and would want to take the fight to the humans before they had the opportunity to gather in numbers or call in the National Guard.   As a secondary motive, I think she was staging a coup with Fillmore Graves, a company she married into.
Point-by-point analysis under the cut.
Helicopter Crash:
We never see Vivian get on the helicopter.  Was her body recovered?  Burned beyond recognition?  Scattered in tiny pieces over the countryside?  We’ll never know, because Liv conveniently mutes the television during the news report.
Harrison Graves
Vivian’s beloved “deceased” husband.  First scratched and extorted (by Blaine?).  He wanted to selflessly leave her so that she wouldn’t have to be celibate, but while he slept, she scratched herself and became a zombie.  He found his own source of brains, and a week later, he never returned home again -- implication, killed by Blaine.  Vivian vows revenge.
Some Possibilities:
Harrison died at the hands of Blaine or another party.  Vivian died in helicopter crash.
Unsatisfying story-telling.  You shouldn’t tease a vendetta and then kill off the injured party before they can get answers or revenge.
Harrison died at the hands of Vivian.
Infinitely more interesting.  Did Harrison learn of Vivian’s plans to escalate a zombie/human war?  Did he have to be silenced?  Did he inform his thoroughly-ripped, but absent brother of his suspicions?
Who would make a better scapegoat than a formerly criminally-opportunistic amnesiac?  He can’t even defend himself.
Harrison is alive and being held prisoner somewhere.
Vivian’s prisoner?
On Zombie Island?
Harrison is alive and pulling the strings from behind the scenes
My #2 theory, if Vivian turns out to be dead after all.  The lack of closure on his death really stands out for me.
Additionally, why does she volunteer the information that Harrison was going to leave her.  “He didn’t want her to lead a sexless life” is valid reasoning, but a bit TMI for complete strangers.  Had Harrison drawn up divorce papers at some point?  Was she trying to get out in front of it  in case those papers surfaced?
Contracting Zombie-ism:
We only have Vivian’s word for how it went down.  A General in Equitorial Kundu (ha!) turned biological weapons on his own people and a dozen Fillmore Graves employees.  Two weeks later, later at the annual 4th of July retreat, every single Fillmore Graves employee contracts the virus.  Vivian, motherly saint that she is, cures them all with a scratch.
Where else do we hear about biological weapons?  Oh yeah, Ravi tells us in ‘Looking for Mr. Goodbrain’ that ‘Aleutian Flu’ is code for biological weapon. And Katty Cake is doing the investigation.
Did things go down at the retreat like Vivian said?  Or did she turn a biological weapon on her own employees as an experiment in creating super soldiers?  A pre-Max Rager Super-Max?  She owns the formula for that, by the way.
Another theory - does she hope to infect Seattle’s humans with the bio-weapon to force a join-us-or-die situation?
Vivian and Chase
Vivian volunteers plenty about her husband and her employees.  Just one great, big, happy family, she says.  But she never mentions Chase even once.
Right after the news report of the helicopter crash, Major tells us that Chase is taking the reins, and is flying back from Tripoli (via Paris, perhaps?).
Our first glimpse of Chase is at Vivian’s wake, where he has a bit of a temper tantrum, shutting off the music and berating everybody for their revelry.
Is Chase the enemy of fun?  Does he have a stick up his existent and totally adorable ass?  Only Liv knows the answer to that, but a few episodes later, we see him at Finnegan’s and Coons’ wake, laughing and smiling in the background while Major sings with his crew.  What makes this wake different?  #NotVivian.
When first introduced to Liv, he sharply cuts her off when she’s attempting to express her condolences for Vivian.  But relaxes enough to give her the Dohring-smolder, once she lets the Vivian subject drop.   While Vivian seems to have a “Bring it on/Come at me” attitude towards D-Day/Chase seems much more cautious and disciplined about about discovery, doing everything possible to maintain zombie secrecy.  He worries exposure will lead to extinction (is he lacking confidence in his army?)
He immediately quizzes Liv on the Tuttle-Reed murders.  His language is specific.  He wants hard evidence to have the culprits “put away”.
In a later scene, he  worries about the safety of the Chaos Killer victims, but he never says a peep about catching Vivian’s killer.  Which, I suppose, could be an argument that he’s her killer (revenge for killing his brother?)
Some possibilities
Before his death, did Harrison Graves confide in Chase about concerns with Vivian?
Does Chase suspect Vivian of less-than-pure motives for zombifying the Fillmore Graves employees?
Assuming Vivian is the Big Bad, is Chase the fall guy?  Once he’s killed/arrested/neutralized, will she come out of hiding with a sob story about how she tried to stop him from starting a zombie/human war, but he overpowered and imprisoned her?
Tuttle-Reed Murders
We start the season immediately after the Max Rager massacre.  Vivian learns that Clive Babineaux, a human with connections, knows about zombies.  She has three choices.
Do nothing - Pray that Clive keeps his mouth shut, and doesn’t ruin everything.  Walk on eggshells, hoping not to make him suspicious.
Kill him.  Make it look like an accident - Too risky when she doesn’t have anybody inside the ME’s office.  If caught, she could make some powerful enemies.
Turn him into an ally
We know that Vivian went with option number three.  First, she gave Clive/Liv/Major a tour of the campus.  Humanized the experience with warm stories of her love for her husband, her employees, her family. She’s caring, nurturing, and has all the PowerPoint slides to put a mind at ease.   However, Clive isn’t so easily convinced.  After the tour, while still on campus property, he expressed his uneasiness with the secrecy of a private army, “armed to the gills”.  He needed an incentive.  How sweet was it, the way he peeked through the classroom window to make sure little Wally was getting a proper education.
Of all the zombie families in all the gin joints, it just happens to be the family Clive shares an emotional connection with that wound up dead.
A visibly sad Vivian hears the news about the Tuttle-Reed murders, but was she sad about the murders themselves, or in the necessity of sacrificing Wally and his fam?  Liv visits, and in dialogue-less montage, allies Team Z to Fillmore Graves.
Vivian fans the flames in the aftermath, selling the “humans want us dead” tale to her employees.
Zombie Truthers
Where are they getting all of their information?
Assuming Vivian wants this war to begin sooner rather than later, are the Truthers her unwitting ace in the hole?
Did she post the Tuttle-Reed address on the zombie message board?
Did she anonymously give Harley a heads-up about the tracker in his vehicle?
Baracas
Is utterly crucial to Fillmore Graves in a post D-Day world.  In 3x1, we learn that the Chaos Killer victims were whisked away from Max Rager to Fillmore Graves, where they’re debriefed and sold a cover story.
Vivian hand-picks Baracas as her mayoral pawn, and will do anything to get him elected.
While Chase Graves is understandably invested in helping Baracas win the mayoral race, the writers go to the trouble to show us they have no past association.
Chase:  “Carey, I should probably meet this candidate we’re bankrolling”.
Baracas: (when told Chase wants to meet him:  “Who?”  Carey Gold:  “Only the most important zombie on this planet.  Endeavor to impress.”
Did Chase arrange the shooting of Baracas?  Possibly.  It definitely helped win the election, but I don’t get that impression.  The best response for the mastermind would be to let the shooter get away, but Chase fires WAY too many bullets up into that balcony.  He’s not trying to miss.
I’m with Peyton when it comes to Roxanne’s murder.  Baracas doesn’t want his predilections getting out, but he doesn’t seem to be complicit.
Weckler
We know Vivian put security details on the Chaos Killer’s victims, including her pet politician Baracas.  Presumably, security reported back to her about Baracas’ visits to Roxanne the Dominatrix, and the peeping tom who witnessed everything.
It’s two birds with one stone - turn Weckler’s daughter into a zombie, and then blackmail him with her safety.  “Keep your mouth shut about Baracas, and while you’re at it, we’re going to need you to steal the memory card evidence.”   Oops.  You weren’t supposed to murder her.
I’m guessing that the second lawyer’s whispered comment to Weckler had been for him to confess and halt the investigation in exchange for Tatum’s safety.
The prison guard is almost incidental. Anybody could have paid him to kill Weckler, and anybody could have paid the second killer who killed the guard.
Stolen Cure
Why did Vivian learn that Major was human again?  She didn’t do anything with the information.  In fact, she was dead ten minutes later?  So why did the writers go to the trouble of showing us that scene?
Major, right before the crash:  “She wants to talk to Ravi about how I was cured when she gets back.”
***Sidenote.  Ravi doesn’t share a single scene with Vivian or Chase.  I’m predicting this is on purpose, and he’ll do something undercover in the finale.
Assuming Vivian wants to start a human/zombie war, a cure for zombie-ism is her worst nightmare.  She can’t have her fighters being captured and cured.
Chase, on the other hand, doesn’t ask about a cure.  He seems to assume Major was human all along, and just really fucking lucky.
Aleutian Flu
So Aleutian Flu is code for a bio-weapon, and this particular strain has been traced a specific Paris - Seattle flight.  At the time of Katty’s killing, all passengers have been interviewed, with the exception of four first-class passengers.
Old racist woman, who knows nothing.
Sikh father with a baby, who heard a barking dog nearby
Miserable husband, whose wife ended up in coach due to a mixup.  To appease her, he traded seats with 17D, Patrice Gold.
???
Between the barking dog and the napkin with Katty’s name written on it, my boy Chase is looking awfully suspicious here.
On the other hand, (1) Liv and Clive have a list of the four passengers, and would both recognize his name if he used it.  (2)  is he stupid enough to leave evidence connecting him to a murder on his nightstand?  (3) is he even more stupid to bring the woman investigating the murder back to his bed, knowing the napkin was there?
Possibilities
If Chase was on the flight, did he also switch seats with another coach passenger?
Or had Katty already interviewed him and cleared him from suspicion.
Is that why he had the napkin with her name on it?
He clearly did not have sex with her.  His scene with Major earlier makes it clear that he knows Zombie/Human sex is off limits.
And Catty wasn’t a zombie at her time of death.
But SHE wouldn’t know the danger of sleeping with him, and there was nothing stopping her from shoving a napkin at him with her room number.
I mean, I WOULD!!!
Or is the napkin there for another reason?  He jotted the info down while listening to a voice mail?  He thinks their luggage got switched?  Vivian manipulated it somehow?
Assuming Vivian is the Big Bad, she would know the date of her “death” in advance, and would have time to send Patrice to Paris to await further instructions.
Like “Chase will be on flight xyz at this time.  Make sure you’re on the same flight, and release the toxin then.”
Vivian Stoll vs. Chase Graves
Most of this analysis rests on the assumption that Chase remained in Tripolli prior to Vivian’s death.  It’s completely possible that he came back to Seattle weeks or months earlier in order to wreck mayhem everywhere.
Where Vivian edges Chase out, is that we’ve been shown her connection to the different entities:  the Tuttle-Reed family, Harley John and the tracker in his car, Baracas and the other Chaos Killer victims, the cure, and her admission of infecting all of the FG employees.  If Chase shares any of those connections, we haven’t been shown on screen.
Where Chase edges Vivian out, is we’ve been shown a connection to Katty and the Aleutian Flu through the napkin and White Fang.  If Vivian shares this connection, we haven’t been shown on screen.  And if Chase was in fact on this flight, that negates the idea of him being in Seattle all along.
Potential Accomplices:
Zack Stoll:  Share’s a last name with Vivian, but seems genuinely decent.  Also, caught in the blast, though it looks as if his upper half makes it out.
Carey Gold:  Maybe?  A little TOO convenient, especially with Clive learning she’s Patrice’s mother.  Has constant access to Chase.  Capable of slipping Katty’s napkin in his pockets while he’s naked tanning (thank you Rob Thomas!).  At least mildly involved, as Tatum is living in her home, and her daughter was on the flight from Paris.  Still, I don’t think she’s the main accomplice.  She seems surprised too often, and only owns one everyday dress.  Pay your employees better, Chase.
Patrice Gold:  Probably capable of conspiring without her mother’s knowledge.  Her seat number was written down on Katty’s napkin, and she was obviously the passenger Katty was killed to keep from interviewing.  Also, Tatum seems more frightened of Patrice.
Justin:  My choice for most likely suspect.
Becomes Major’s Insta-BFF at a time when he needs one the most.
Convinces Major that he’s a great guy, then targets Liv for romance with Major’s blessing.
The cans of Super Max.  Liv initiated that request, but from Chase’s reaction to the theft, I’m guessing they were under lock and key.
Not saying Chase wasn’t an asshole to shoot him, just that I feel like there’s something more to the Super Max angle.
Who found the guns in Harley John’s truck?  Oh yeah.  This guy.
Who worked the Baracas party where a shooter fired the same guns?  You guessed it.  Justin.
In Conspiracy Weary, Justin lies and tells Liv that Harley John’s compound wasn’t worth checking out.  It hadn’t been used in months.
Liv questions this statement aloud once she gets a look at it.
Harley’s been building his underground bunker for all this time.
And the machinery was so loud, even the neighbors could hear it.
Justin conveniently pulls Major out of the party mere moments before the explosion.
Too. Good. To. Be. True.   Nobody’s that sweet and pleasant.

Since you did a shot where Reverb kidnaps Caitlin, could you do one where Killer Frost is the one who kidnaps Caitlin (yup, I love to see Caitlin kidnapped haha) and Cisco has to save her from her but he struggles to fight someone with Caitlin's face?
Here you goooo! You have awesome timing, because I was honestly so bored and couldn’t think of anything to write. Also, let’s not question how Killer Frost got to Earth 1, okay?
Read on AO3
Frostbite
If Cisco hadn’t been woken up by the vibe, he probably would have been clued in by the thick layer of ice coating the Star Labs parking lot. He manages to slide his way inside, and is very relieved that the ice ends at the doors and none of his equipment is ruined.
The relief vanishes when he finds Caitlin’s purse and jacket still at her desk, her phone placed neatly next to her tablet. Caitlin never goes anywhere without her phone. Cisco used to tease her about her habit of taking it with her even to the bathroom, until she reminded him that you’re more likely to be abducted when you’re by yourself, say, on the way to the bathroom, than around other people. Cisco stopped making fun of her, and also made more of an effort to keep his phone with him. Just in case.
He brushes his fingers over the phone, closes his eyes, and watches, nauseous, as a blue-tinged Caitlin is forced at icicle-point out of the lab.
Cisco sits heavily, rests his head in his hands and tries to breathe deeply, before calling Iris.
Caitlin sits as primly as she can with shackles on, looking down her nose as Killer Frost hovers over her.
“What do you want?” Caitlin asks, keeping her face closed off.
Killer Frost smirks. “Isn’t it obvious?”
Caitlin rolls her eyes. “I wouldn’t ask if it was obvious. But whatever it is, you’re not going to get it.”
Frost sits down in the chair across from Caitlin. “All I want is your help.”
Caitlin frowns at her for a long moment. “Kidnapping me is not a great way to ask for a favor,” she says flatly. “My friends definitely aren’t going to see it as a cry for help.”
“You would have locked me up if I had just showed up.”
“Maybe we would have,” Caitlin says. “But that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t have listened.”
Frost stands just as a breach opens behind Caitlin. Cisco hops out just ahead of a red flash, which zips around the room before coming to a halt behind Frost.
Frost’s eyes glow electric blue and the temperature plummets.
“Get away from her,” Wally shouts.
“You don’t want to do this,” Frost hisses, turning to face Kid Flash.
Cisco flinches. “Caitlin?”
Both Caitlins turn to look at him.
“Cisco!” Caitlin yells.
Cisco can’t tear his eyes from Frost, though, her jaw firms and she blasts shards of ice over Caitlin’s head. Wally unties Caitlin in a blur and brings her to the corner of the room.
“Wally, Caitlin, get out of here,” Cisco says brusquely.
Frost saunters towards him as Wally whisks Caitlin away. “What are you going to do to me, Vibe?”
Cisco stumbles backward. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
An icicle forms in her hand. “Big mistake.”
Cisco dives sideways at the last second to avoid her stab, and he lands awkwardly and goes down hard. He looks up at her, a boom shaking his hands, struggling to be let out. But all he can see is Caitlin in the way her hair falls over her face, the determined set of her mouth, the long limbs that are somehow awkward and graceful. And her eyes, amber now, and so familiar. The boom fizzles out. He meets her eyes. “Caitlin.”
“I’m not her,” Frost hisses. “Stop looking at me like I am.”
“I can help you,” Cisco says. He holds out his hand.
Cisco limps home through Earth 18, which has a light vibration that doesn’t jar his twisted knee as much as any other Earth. Iris is fussing over Wally, hovering as he eats a nutritional bar. They both look up as Cisco comes in.
Iris glares at him, hands on her hips. “What were you thinking?” she snaps. “How could you go up against Killer Frost alone?”
Cisco yanks his goggles off his face. “Iris, I’m fine. We’re just short-handed today. Harry and Jesse are on Earth 2.”
Iris’ face sets into a familiar expression. The mom-look, as Wally calls it. “And you couldn’t go get them? It’s not like you can’t Earth-hop or anything.”
He looks away and suddenly Iris’ shoulders drop.
“I’m sorry. I just - I can’t lose anyone else, okay?”
Cisco nods and hobbles over to squeeze her hand. “Where’s Caitlin?”
Wally grimaces. “She locked herself into the break room and told us to leave her alone.” He glances at Iris. “We figured you’d have an easier time getting her to come out than us.”
Cisco waves at them over his shoulder as he makes his way down the hall. He knocks first, and when he doesn’t get a response, he rattles the doorknob. It’s not actually locked, and he eases the door open slowly. Caitlin is curled up on the couch, wearing the yoga pants she keeps in her desk drawer and one of Cisco’s sweatshirts, her hair spread out over the pillow behind her.
Cisco closes the door behind him. “Hey, Caitlin.”
“I’m sorry,” she mutters into the cushion.
Cisco sits at her hip. “Excuse me, what are you apologizing for?”
She hugs herself tighter. “I should have been paying more attention. I shouldn’t have let her sneak up on me.”
He risks putting a hand on her wrist. “I really don’t blame you for not trying to fight someone who can turn you into a human popsicle in seconds.”
She turns to look at him. “She just wanted help.”
Cisco grips her wrist a little tighter. “I know.”
Caitlin blinks watery eyes at him. “Thank you for coming for me.”
He smiles. “Every time, Cait.”
She sits up and turns so he can lift his aching leg onto the coffee table and she can rest her cheek against his arm. “What happened?”
Cisco sighs. “I told her to come in tomorrow and I can make her a power dampener.”
“Why tomorrow?”
He shrugs. “I thought you might not want to be here when she came. Figured I’d give you enough of a heads up.”
“I want to be here,” Caitlin says firmly. “I guess I… I guess I want to know that it’s possible to not go evil if-”
“If you get powers?” Cisco asks gently.
She nods.
“You could never be evil, Caitlin, trust me.”
Caitlin relaxes. “I do trust you.”

Title: Stretch right up and touch the sky Chapter 4
Author: @blaineandsamevanderson
Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow/Arrow/The Flash/Supergirl
Ship: Iris/Eddie, will have many more to come
Rating: G
Summary: Camp STAR is one of the North East’s most popular science camps.  Every year, young minds arrive to learn and explore.  Unfortunately, a few weeks before the camp was to open for the season, a large explosion in one of the labs and the ensuing fire made the camp uninhabitable.  Not wanting his campers to miss out on their summer, Owner Harrison Wells called up Joe West, Owner of Camp Superflarrow, who he knew was looking to expand the science discovery program at his own camp.
Author’s notes: There are a few random counselor names thrown in to fill out the lists.  They will not be of importance.
**
**
“Gimme a boost, boys!”
In a practiced motion, Barry grabbed one of Iris’s hands while Eddie took the other and they lifted her up onto a tall stump by the camp gates.  From there, all the counselors and CIT’s would be able to see her as she made a brief announcement.  After today, such announcements would be done by the head counselors, but as they had just arrived, Joe was letting Iris hand out cabin assignments this year.
“I know some of you have summered with us before,” she was saying and a cheer rose up from most of the returning campers.  Iris grinned back at them before continuing, “This season, we’ve got a lot of new faces joining us and we’ve also got lots of new programs and guest speakers available for all campers.  Dad and Dr. Wells will fill everyone in at the Welcome ceremony, but for now, I’m sure you all want to know where to store your gear.”
Cabin assignment time.
“First up, we have the Penobscot Cabins, which house our younger boys.  Cabin 1, Barry Allen and Eddie Thawne.”
Barry tossed an amused grin over at Eddie, who held out his hand for a fist bump.  “Joe wants you to keep an eye on me, right?” the blond joked, but Barry winced a little at the comment.  Eddie’s eyes widened.  “Oh God, that’s actually it!”
With a shrug, Barry admitted, “He may have muttered something about making sure you stay in the cabin at night….”
Eddie groaned as Iris continued to read off names.
“…Leonard Snart & Jefferson Jackson…Oliver Queen & Winn Schott…Mon-El Daxam & Tommy Merlyn…Bruce Wayne & Steve Trevor….”
After that, she moved on to assigning counselors to the Sequoia (Boys Middle Age) Cabins. “James Olsen & Ray Palmer to Cabin 1…Wally West & Nate Haywood…Cisco Ramon & Curtis Holt…John Diggle &Roy Harper…Rory Regan & Rene Ramirez…..”
Kennebagos (Older Boys) were next.  Clark Kent & Julian Albert, Mick Rory & Hartley Rathaway, Carter Hall & Rip Hunter were paired to watch over cabins while Lex Luthor was given a cabin of his own with fewer boys to manage.
“All of you, make sure to keep your boys out of the girl’s cabins, you hear me?”  Iris teased.  “Our younger girls are in the Acadia Cabins.  Cabin 1 is me, Iris West, & Caitlin Snow.  We’re gonna have fun!”
Barry tracked her wave to a pretty auburn haired girl of about their age.  The summer sun painted her curls in colors that reminded him of fall and Barry blinked before refocusing on the cabin assignments.  Not that he’d remember all of them, but it was good to be able to match unknown faces to names.  “…Sara Lance & Lisa Snart…Kara Danvers & Felicity Smoak…Diana Prince & Eve Teschmacher…Cindy Taylor & Lyra Strayd….”
Next came the Baxter (Middle Girls).  “Lyla Michaels & Jesse Wells…Lucy Lane & Amaya Jiwe…Megan Morse & Thea Queen…Cassandra Savage & Linda Park…Nyssa Al Ghul & Evelyn Sharp…Dinah Drake & Isabel Rochev….”
Finally, she reached the Kennebeck cabins, where the Older girls bunked.  “…Lena Luthor & Laurel Lance…Alex Danvers & Maggie Sawyer…Lois Lane & Kendra Saunders…Patty Spivot & Leslie Willis…Cindy Reynolds & Siobhan Smythe…Helena Bertinelli & Elena Vasquez….” Iris read off, then nodded to the crowd.  “See you all at the campfire in an hour.”
As Eddie helped her down off of the stump, Barry raised his voice to call out, “Wally, help any new Sequoia counselors find their way!  Rip, you got the Kennebagos!”  A happy wave from Wally and an annoyed eye roll from Rip said that they’d heard him.  “Lyla, take the Baxter?  Thanks! Laurel, Kennebecks?”
The two girls started leading their newbies as Iris called, “Acadia & Long Creek this way, Penobscots with Barry.”
Everyone gathered up their gear and began trooping off into the camp, splitting into smaller groups as they headed for their cabins.  As they made their way through the campground, Barry began pointing things out and rattling off bits of information.  Most of the boys in his group had been to camp before and were only listening with half an ear, but some of the newbies peered at the tennis courts, soccer fields and climbing towers with interest.
Once they reached their small cluster of cabins, each with a plaque bearing the name Penobscot and a number, they paired off, hauling their things into their bunks. The cabins were spacious log buildings with large windows that could be opened to allow airflow through the screens. Bunk beds filled the main room and there was a storage room to keep clothes and belongings in beside the small counselor’s room.  At the other end of the cabin was the shower and bathroom, all newly renovated and each cabin had a small, attached porch.
“You okay if I take bottom bunk?” Eddie asked as he and Barry entered the room they’d be sleeping in for the summer.
“Sure,” Barry agreed amiably as he opened the windows, letting the cross draft flow through the room.  He’d already brought most of his things over earlier, but he had a bag with bedding that he dug his sheets out of.
As they began to make their beds, Eddie said, “You were kidding about spying on me for your dad, right…Barry?”
He wasn’t planning on narcing on them, but it was fun to tease Eddie with the idea.  Maybe if he played his cards right, he could get Eddie to take care of the particularly messy criers in exchange for keeping quiet….

“This is more like what I though camp would be like when Alex first started talking about going,” Kara enthused, grinning at Felicity as they entered their cabin.  “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I loved STAR, but I didn’t expect dorms and stuff like that.  Movie camps look like this!”
The dorms at STAR had been large and spacious, each room holding 2 campers, single beds, dressers, desks, chairs and closets.  Each room had a ¾ bath attached, air conditioning, a kitchenette and a tv.  It seemed more like a pre-college experience than a camp, and a pretty spiffy college at that.
Superflarrow was far more camp like, with cabins and many more outdoor activities.  Their cabin was neat and clean, rows of bunks taking up the main room, a large, shiny bathroom taking up one end of the building. The counselor’s room was at the other end and they had their own separate bath.
That was nice.
The bunk beds might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they didn’t bother Kara.
“Do you mind if I take the bottom bunk?” Felicity asked a little sheepishly. “I’m not the biggest fan of heights.”
“Not a problem,” Kara assured the other girl.  Felicity was another transfer from STAR, so she was happy not to be rooming with a total stranger.  Not that she wasn’t eager to meet new people, but what if she didn’t get along with her roommate?  Alex seemed okay with bunking with Maggie, whom they had met on the bus, but she was glad for a familiar face.  “What did you pick for your specialty?”
Each counselor had an area of focus that they would direct activities in.  The cabin pairings were probably assigned so at least one counselor from each cabin would be with their campers at any given time if the other had to go off and lead a sport or class.
“The Camp Radio Station,” Felicity told her with a smile.  “I know not as many campers will take an interest in that, but me and Cisco will be able to have fun with it, doing daily announcements and improving the camp’s audio systems.  I mean, did you see the old school, mega-phone looking speakers nestled in the trees?”
Kara nodded.  “I thought they blended in pretty well, considering someone went to the trouble of painting them green.”
“I’ll give them points for that,” Felicity agreed, then asked, “Which program are you working in?”
“Voice,” Kara told her.  “Alex says I put the Kara in Kara-eoke.”
Felicity let out a giggle.  “That’s an awful joke.  I love it.”
Yeah, this rooming situation was going to work out just fine!

Hello hood-ex! I really love your meta posts! I'm a newer fan of DC. I'm slowly work through the older stuff, but most of what I know comes from N52 and Rebirth. Thus, your Roy and Wally metas have been really awesome to read! In the newer stuff, it doesn't seem like Dick and Slade interact much, but it looks like they do a lot in the comics, or is it just in the teen titans cartoon? Whats your opinion on how they interact? Thank you for all your wonderful posts, and hard work!
Hi anon! I appreciate the kind words and I’m glad my metas are helpful to you :)
You’re right, Dick and Slade haven’t interacted as much in recent comics, but they do run into each other more frequently pre-52. I think most people would say they have an interesting relationship since they’ve fought against each other and have worked together as temporary allies.
Originally, Slade was sought out by an organization called The H.I.V.E. to kill the Titans (Robin, Wonder Girl, Starfire, Cyborg, Changeling, Kid Flash, and Raven). The H.I.V.E didn’t want to pay Slade upfront for the task, so Slade bailed before making a contract with them. However, Slade’s son, Grant Wilson, was intent on killing the Titans with the powers he acquired from The H.I.V.E. When Slade and Grant teamed up to attack the Titans, Grant’s own powers ended up killing him. Slade unjustly blamed the Titans for Grant’s death. And Since Grant wasn’t able to complete the contract he had with The H.I.V.E. (aka killing the Titans), Slade assumed responsibility for the contract.
That was where Slade’s “relationship” with the Titans began. At that point, Slade hated the Titans collectively. He wasn’t really tuned into Dick specifically.
Then we jump to The Judas Contract storyline found in the Tales of the Teen Titans comic. Slade respected the Titans by then, but his contract stated that he was to bring the Titans to The H.I.V.E dead or alive. By using Terra to infiltrate the Titans and to gain information about their secret identities, Slade was able to hunt down and capture all of the Titans. Well. All of them except Dick. Slade tracked down Dick at his apartment and they fought. Dick managed to jump out a window and he ran away. I think it was at that point that Slade started to take more of an interest in Dick. He acknowledged that he was able to capture the Titans with superpowers, but failed to catch Dick, who had no superpowers. Dick’s disappearing act rattled Slade because it was the first time someone managed to escape from him.
After those incidents, Slade popped up in Dick’s life intermittently. In The Titans comic, Slade came to the Titans for help. Dick was leading the team and was cool with helping Slade out, even though he obviously didn’t trust him (he put a tracer in Slade’s costume). They also had their differences during the mission:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Titans #10
But ultimately, they were acting as allies on that mission. And while we’re on The Titans, I’d also like to point out that when Roy was trying to stop Slade from killing Cheshire (Roy’s baby mama), Slade made this comment, “At least Nightwing doesn’t talk as much as you.” I just thought it was an interesting observation. It’s not really relevant but it implies a sense of familiarity between Dick and Slade (from fighting each other so much, obviously). And just because they may act as allies sometimes, it doesn’t mean they won’t go back to fighting each other when the situation calls for it. There’s a few examples of this in the Nightwing Vol. 2 run and in Infinite Crisis #4. At one point, Dick was a police officer and he had a partner/captain on the force named Amy Rohrbach. Slade was hired to kill Amy and he came to Blüdhaven to take her out. Dick intercepted him and fought tooth and nail to protect her. He wasn’t worried about himself because he knew Slade was only interested in killing the person he was hired to kill.
Tumblr media
Dick decided to stop Slade with an unconventional method…
Tumblr media
Nightwing #82
And, well, you know. Slade’s loyalty kinda lies wherever there’s more money to be made, especially a large amount like $30,001.50. So with money on the table, he was easily persuaded to absolve his contract with whoever hired him.
In Nightwing #112, Slade wanted Dick to train and teach his daughter, Rose, useful skills. Dick accepted and did train Rose briefly until more beef came up between him and Slade, resulting in Slade forbidding Dick from being around Rose. This put Dick and Slade on bad terms again. In fact, Slade was so intent on getting back at Dick that he helped a group called The Society destroy Blüdhaven with Chemo.
Tumblr media
Infinite Crisis #4
Chemo was a living chemical weapon that was full of toxic gases, radiation, and acids. It destroyed a large portion of Blüdhaven, and in Adventures of Superman #648, it was mentioned that 100,068 people died from the attack.
Dick was surprised that Slade would contribute to the destruction of Blüdhaven. While Dick navigated through the quickly deteriorating city, he thought,
“Did I miscalculate so badly? Underestimate Slade or the people he’s working for? The Slade I know never could have condemned this many people to die just to… just to what? Prove a point? Punish me?” - Nightwing #116
Since Slade helped destroy the city Dick swore to protect, Dick wasn’t going to let him off the hook for it any time soon.
Tumblr media
Nightwing #117
Dick also made Rose realize that the kryptonite Slade implanted in her eye was carcinogenic. A carcinogenic is a substance that causes cancer. Rose was obviously horrified to learn that the kryptonite would slowly kill her and cause her a lot of pain. She ran away from Slade screaming, “I hate you!” Keep in mind, Slade had two other kids who already died, and he was hoping to keep Rose on his side. He lost Rose’s loyalty because of Dick. So between that and the destruction of Blüdhaven, I think it’s safe to say that Dick and Slade felt pretty hostile towards each other at that point.
Anyways, I think it’s interesting how Dick and Slade have a level of respect for each other’s skills even though there’s a shared hatred between them. I’m sure they have other interactions that can be analyzed, but these are the main ones that come to mind.
If you want to know more about the differences between Slade from the Teen Titans TV show and Slade from the comics, you can read a meta about him: here. There’s also a post someone made on Quora about Slade’s moral code and I think it’s pretty interesting. You can read about it: here.
