by god im tracing my fascination with death back through the years and i think i can say the fact i chose the death school in wizard101 when i was fucking 9 years old was probably, at least in some part, a product of this too

#man dont even get me started on death magic in w101. augh #i love w101 death sooooo much its so good #its so fun to play AND its so interesting like philosophically #its the best school to solo with because it has the best compromise between healing and damage #but as opposed to life magic which just straight up heals #all of death healing occurs by DOING damage #you can only heal through death magic while also doing damage #so many spells are like attack the enemy and then return half the health to you #and the one spell thats the most interesting in this regard is sacrifice #you can choose to remove health from one of your own teammates; even yourself; and return some to heal another teammate #or yourself!!!#i used to do it to myself sometimes so its like -250 health to yourself in exchange for +700 so its a net of +500 #the philosophical implications of Sacrifice the spell is just so. gah #and the whole healing through damage in general...#AND it lends itself to really fun strategy during gameplay #brot posts #and the main arc 1 villain is a death wizard so the fucking. narrative tension of when you're playing the protagonist as a death wizard too #IT JUST. DRIVES ME CRAYZAYYYY
