I swear to god, Zanmu has just been on my mind recently, she's taking over my fucking brain please send help

Artist's Note:

Why is it that everytime I do a drawing of Zanmu I always make the canvas size fucking huge and it ends up being a living nightmare to fucking export. I swear to god I had to go from 1200 DPI to 600 to 350.

Exporting hell aside, I loved working on this piece. With Zanmu's design, I wanted to combine all the design details that I love and have seen in other people's drawings of Zanmu and give them my own personal touches. First of all, her sleeves were inspired by @amemenojaku's design for Zanmu, and I absolutley love that detail because not only does it make her feel more regal, it also can be a callback to Satori and old hell, and also gives me the idea that Satori's fashion sense was inspired by Zanmu because IRL a lot of historical fashion was inspired by what the nobles were wearing at the time, and since Satori was around since when Old Hell used to be Hell, she probably took some wardrobe inspo from her (or it could be my headcanon that Satori could've been Zanmu's royal advisor or she was in her court or something but that theory is kinda grasping at strings from other headcanons I have, but that's for a different post). Also, the eye makeup she has was inspired by @jothelion's drawings of Zanmu, and like, I fucking love that detail because it just adds so much like omg I just love it sm.

And now for the design details I put in. I gave Zanmu tassel earrings because I think they'd look great on her. I also really like to exaggerate her hair and really try to make it look wild, as well as having little grey hairs here and there. I also try to add some wrinkles to the corners of her eyes, but TBH I don't know how visible that detail is, since the image is pretty fucking big. I also really exaggerated the tassles/strings on her outfit, since I really wanted to play around with the potential flow they could have. Also, big fan of giving Zanmu longer sleeves and pants. IDK why but I just like how it flows better. Also big fan of making her taller, idk why a lot of fanart makes her short. Also, I placed her horns closer to the front of her head as I just think placing horns in that position looks cool.

Also, if you're wondering about the halo, I took some inspiration from a few of Caravaggio's paintings where he often depicts saints with this very thin halo around the top of their heads. I just liked that detail a lot so I thought I'd include it.

Fun fact, I was originally gonna make the four skeletons Chiyari, Biten, Enoko, and Hisami but I didn't like the prospect of having to draw four more characters, so I chose to replace them with skeletons (if you wanna get silly with it, Zanmu got Hisami to kidnap Aya, set up some skeletons with bones from her bone collection and told her to take a picture of her).

I kinda gave up on Zanmu's feet and the one skeleton's hands (as if drawing hands normally is hard enough but NOPE, HAD TO MAKE IT LIVING HELL FOR MYSELF BY MAKING IT A SKELETON) and the quality of the image may suffer because of how much I had to fucking compress it (Zanmu's presence alone was enough to make the computer lose all of it's desire and motivation to export the drawing of her lmao), but I have been hacking at this piece for a while now, plus I need to learn when to call it quits when it comes to drawings). Also as I was fixing up the hands there was one spot where I forgot to clean up with the sketch and I can't fucking unsee that now and it's going to fucking bother me until I fix it but fixing it requires going back and putting my computer through hell so yeah.

So yeah, that's about all I have to say with this drawing, it was fun but also a nightmare lol

Raph’s music taste hasn’t changed much from canon, he still likes soul music. He and April has karaoke nights a few times a week, and sometimes Splinter even joins them! He likes something a bit more upbeat when exercising, so he also likes to listen to rap, timing his lifts with the beats

Donnie also still likes techno, something lyric-less as to not distract his thinking, but strong beats to head bop to when doing important projects. But when he’s doing something fun like siphoning money from billionaires and hacking the street cams to people watch, he’ll play broadway musicals and sing along to it

Lee likes classical music and salsa, something he usually listens during his routine dance classes each week. He also have a separate playlist with glamrock songs and this kind of music he only plays in the comfort of his room. Relaxing around in his favourite comfy hoodies

Mikey likes to listen to hip hop music when he’s out doing his graffiti art, something with a rhythmic beat and lyrics he can mouth along to. FINALLY I'VE FINISHED MY FIRST BATMAN CHARACTER REF SHEET!!!!!!! Ignore the fact that Gentleman Ghost didn't even originate as a Batman character okay I just had the clearest idea of what I wanted this one to look like- either way, now that I actually have the format for these set up, it should be a lot easier to make the rest! I'll probably post them as I finish, maybe saving a couple so I can post them alongside other relavent characters Idk.

Alright, getting this out of the way now, some of my inspos are gonna be kinda weird pulls. GG doesn't have the WEIRDEST ones, but I do feel like at least the Scooby Doo one is kinda random- anyways here are some explanations :)

Batman the Brave & the Bold(Cartoon): I love everything about this version of him omfg- I don't have my versions backstory completely worked out yet, but I know I really wanna take the deal with a demon for immortality aspect from this version. It's a really cool idea that I think I could def do smthn fun with. I also really like his overall demeanor in this version! He truly lives up to the Gentleman part of his name, which I know is definitely true for other versions of the character, but the way he's written and voiced in this show gets that politeness across in such a fun way. Also I love the way his cape is animated it's so fun-

Hawkman(1986): Okay, so I'm not really a Hawkman fan? I thought he was pretty fun in DC Superhero Girls, but that and the Harley Quinn Show are kinda the only things with him in them I've interacted with in a meaningful way. That being said though, I saw a bunch of panels from this specific run in the GG tag, and decided I might as well read the parts with GG at the very least since they seemed pretty fun, and MAN I love how he's written in those comics sm- he's so sassy lmao. Sassy Gentleman Ghost my beloved. He's also just overall really funny and has a great presence. I definitely wanna integrate some aspects of his personality in this into my version, and if I were to ever expand my silly little take on the Batman mythos to include other DC heroes, I would def wanna give him a similar dynamic with the Hawks to what they have going on in these comics.

Batman the Brave and the Bold(comic, 2023): He's only in like, one story in one issue, but omfg I love that story so much- I just love the idea that he would go out of his way to protect his descendants the way he does in that story. Also his design is so cool- I love that they actually made him look like a ghost in this comic, what with the blue lineart and the constant unearthly glow. One of my biggest pet peeves with how a lot of people draw him is that he doesn't usually look like an actual ghost, but I think this comic does a really good job with that.

Scooby Doo, Where Are You?(1969): I just love the idea of him coming across like an old Scooby Doo villain. In the hypothetical show I've been writing in my brain(because I'm insane), his introduction would be a full on homage to the long history Batman and Scooby Doo have had together, with the whole thing being set up like an old episode of Scooby Doo and Gentleman Ghost being basically an old Scooby Doo villain along the lines of the Phantom or the Ghost of Elias Kingston. That kinda cheesy but genuinely spooky energy, a filter over his voice to make it sound like he's straight out of Where Are You, all that good stuff. Make this guy Scooby Doo coded.

His backstory(which I will not be sharing) is also inspired by the broad strokes of his comic ones, but not really any specific version of it.

Headcannon voice: Anthony Warlow(Jekyll & Hyde: the Gothic Musical Thriller) or Alex Rochon(the Amazing Digital Circus). I don't really have an explanation for either of these I just think the vibes fit-

HI thank you sm for this ask i love my dreemurrs.... i don't know honestly! i have a huge love of furry art on tumblr i think it's super cool. and i love drawing goats. so yay! it's also just fun to have a style that's distinct within the assload of fandom art in the undertale community

i like their canon designs but imo their sprites look a bit.. flat.. to me yk? so drawing their faces more goat-like helps me visualize them more 3D. which can make drawing sprites like flowey's dreemurr impressions difficult lol

what on earth back at you 😭 i was happy to read this. honestly i just started taking composition semi-seriously 2.5 years ago. my goal has always been to make cool backgrounds, dynamic but odd perspectives. i love odd & non-conventional angles SO MUCH.

my #1 inspiration for that & art in general is what environmental concept artists and designers do, they have such amazing range. World of Warcraft was my first exposure to it, especially BC & WotLK. Concept art, but playing through the areas was just as cool

Probably the only other foundational inspiration was Tower of God (manhwa) when i read it in 2011-2014... People shit on SIU's art skills in S1 but he very obviously didn't care and NEITHER DID I. He drew awkward angles and yes it looked OFF... but had beautiful color placement and set the right tone. IDK if he knew what he was doing but he always pulled it off. I loved that so bad. Ok and his background work & creativity never failed to impress me. I could go on long tangents abt ToG being a narrative / comic inspo as well, and about how similar SIU & Togashi are as authors, and how ToG's visuals got everything HxH has & is missing, but instead im gonna share some panels i skimmed for that i really love. but all his early panels are equally thoughtful

Anyway, do you have any tips to get consistent at drawing? Where does your inspiration usually come from?

So for tips on how to stay consistent for me I will be honest and say that it’s quite hard not to get bored. I normally turn on the tv and watch a good show while I am drawing and that’s for keeping me in the zone. A lot of the time I give myself hours of break time to let myself to enjoy other things and just let myself refresh.

A lot of the time I scour Pinterest. It’s literally my number one place to look for poses and art references I use. I even look at other fan art for inspiration and create my own style inspired by different artists art style or the way they design certain characters.

Or I will get bursts of inspiration for different characters just from my own imagination. I like to call them aus in my head because I can make a character I like into an OC of sorts and I just play around. The thought process is simply “oh what would they look like as…” or “oh it would be cool if-” hit in order to map out my ideas I do always go back to Pinterest to help with the composition and the visualization of the ideas.

For the actual art I have since I was in 5th grade tried to try new art styles and I had a problem with “mimicking” art styles which I’m glad I got over in order to find my own personal art style. It can be hard to stay consistent especially when you’re new to art because for me it’s the urge to do better and practice.

This may sound like a repetitive statement but it’s true. I practice so much. Like my entire art history is just so much practice. It doesn’t have to be all day everyday but if you spend your time studying the anatomy of art or the lighting, shading, composition, etc your art will get better and more consistent I promise. I look at old art and I see how bad it is and two years from now I hope I also improve.

This was probably more than what was asked but I actually finding the will to do it and practicing makes it easier and better. It also helps of you’re drawing something you’re hyper fixating on! It makes me more engaged and I see all these characters and I’m like I GOTTA DRAW THEM NOW!!!

january: okay i actuakly drew the piece/upload it on the VERY FIRST DAY OF 2024 aka 1/1, i..dont evne owed the ocs anymore </3 #regrettbh bakc then i stiluse one of my favourtie ibis defualt brush that i ALWAYS uses bc i didnt know alot abt other brushes back then, i honestly kinda proud of this one bc it was a scene art and i was ahving fun abck the, this piece was me trying to imitate the hfjone art style

february: i rlly like pink lols...i rlly love this oc heosntly lowkey kidna regreted not keeping him, i chose this because comapring to the january one it has more to it, this was me experimenting with stuff such as background, 2 lines on their limbs to indicate paws, i wasnt a pro persay bt i was trying and it was amazing! the effort and stuff :)

march: i got into oc trading and stuff bc my bf sprout introduced me to it, tand i always make sure i draw every oc i get form toehr ppl at least once like it was on top of my priorities, i rlly love this oc and sprout did too,i let him offer and it have been a while...shes been in my pending folder for 9 months what @moonsprout-sys KRKRKKRKR hurry your ass up/silly, anywya i picked this bc i started to draw more complex oc from the on it was like a trebuche that shoot me two complex ocs department

It’s finally time for my art summary and I decided to throw my art vs artist 2024 in here as well! I also made two alternative versions for the art summary and art vs artist thing because…well…I think these summarize my 2024 perfectly sdkjskdj

I’m always really thrilled to make these art summaries at the end of the year and reflect on how the year went down. One of my main goals for 2024 was to finally launch the first chapter of my webcomic. Unfortunately, I got some health problems in the beginning of the year and after that, I started to dm my very first D&D campaign and…well…accidentally got obsessed with Blauauge, one of the OCs of the campaign that I completely lost focus on all my art goals skdjskdjsd

Homeboy ruined my 2024, made me forgot to work on my comic and made me start drawing sm*t ksjdskdjsd Jokes aside, DMing is really fun and made me try a lot of new things and expand my creativity. Artwise, 2024 was really, really fun for me, I forgot how much fun it is to be completely immersed in something and I just had so many ideas and thoughts and feelings and love about this blue tiefling.

While I’ve struggled a lot in the beginning (and still do) because I felt super cringe and ashamed to be so obsessed with a character no one knows/cares about, I slowly started to understand that I’ve always been doing art for myself and only for myself and that’s what I like most about art. It’s okay that not everyone is as hyped as me about my OC and the most important thing is that I have fun. Nontheless, I’m super thankful that people actually started to be interested in him so thanks everyone for sticking up with my unhinged OC brainrot 🫶💙 Let’s see how long it will stay since my mini campaign will end soon and we’ll continue our main D&D campaign again. So maybe 2025 we will finally be free of the blue himbo tiefling lmao.

Blauauge brainrot aside, this year I was able to gather a lot of experiences at tabling at artist alleys (8 in total!!!). I had so much fun, I learned so, so much and I met some really cool people and even made some friends. It was truly an amazing experience and I feel like I grew alot. That being said, I also realized that being a convention artist is EXTREMELY time-consuming and takes a lot of energy. Combined with my full-time job and dming, I barely had time for my other creative projects like my comic or my youtube channel and I feel so exhausted.

Looking at my goals from last year, I achieved one of them (attending more artist alleys) but for the other goals, I completely neglected youtube and I don’t feel ready for an art shop at all RIP + I really wanted be better at the fundamentals and I guess I got a bit better at anatomy because of Blauauge (and Blauauge sm*t) so I guess that kinda fits LMAO?? I also start putting more effort into backgrounds for my comic and I’m thinking more about composition while drawing but it’s still a long way for me and I really have to actively study because I feel like I’m at a step in my art journey again where I feel kinda stuck. However, something that really surprised me is that put a lot of my attention on my coloring and I find it way more enjoyable than last year. Also, just a side note, but I’m halfway done with my internship/apprentinceship and I am kinda proud of how much I’vee improved at graphic design and my branding, hehe.

Next year, I’ll TRY (lmao) to attend less conventions. I’m also on a good track working on my comic again SO THIS YEAR, I PROMISE TO GET THAT FIRST CHAPTER DONE!! and I’ll also try to make another youtube video again and maybe even start livestreaming? (no promises lol)

The dynamics between the characters are so ashdhfjgjt- but most of all I think it's the reunion between them that really just makes me happy. It's so sweet. Wil not unpacking all his shit is so in character for him btw. I remember audibly laughing at that. Like of course not, why would he? The way Tommy's art is described is actually so fun to imagine. It's such a unique sounding style and the aesthetic of it? Oooh. If you don't mind me asking, how'd you come up with the idea of his art being that way?

The dancing scenes?? The happiness of the characters practically radiates from your words. They honestly remind me of one night with a younger cousin of mine where we danced around in her room for awhile. They really do create that vibe of happiness and bonding between the characters. Agh.

Also the friend group. Love all them. Such cool friends. I need a friend group like this, this is my goal. lollll The playlist for this fic goes so hard. It was my go to playlist for doing my hw when school started again lol. I took so many songs from it that I listen to all the time now. I'll be honest I don't remember exactly how I came up with tommy's art designs? I think I was just trying to imagine what kind of art he would do and I wanted it to be a bit 'outside of the box' and also match some kind of character representations etc etc so I thought of him doing object head type drawings and really liked it. I'm not an artist myself but I get ideas for drawings a LOT which is very frustrating for me since they can only live in my head unless I find a way to translate them into words. I don't have the patience to learn how to draw (the few times I've tried I've gotten really frustrated when it doesn't look how I want it to because I'm very much a perfectionist about it) so this is how the art ideas I have manifests lol

ahhh I'm so glad you can feel the happiness in the dancing scenes. it was incredibly self indulgent on my end to include so many of those but I'm allowed a little self indulgence from time to time. I feel like one of the happiest experiences you can have is doing a silly little dance with a loved one

So we arrived my actual favorite design!

Tw: Can't have roses without the thorns. (That doesn't mean I don't like roses)

You might think because this is my favorite design that means I would not have as much to complain about, maybe I would leave it be like I did Cleo's after all this is my favorite design surely that means-

Why is her outfit star themed??? Why? Did they change the theming last second? They barely have any indication her being a storm witch or having stuff with the weather/lighting/thunder or at least rain on her outfit. All the things that are suggesting that, look like they done last minute to fit the theme (I'm not in anyway saying they look bad, no, not at all, just out of place with the star theming)

(Also her pants straps? Like huh? I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of the straps, they're fine, just like, why...? Just a personal opinion.)

Well back to me goshing over the design! Put aside that she has no reason to be star themed (she does, kinda, but I will talk about that later, I'm aware of esmp2 dw I'm just talking about lore later on), she fits the theme very nicely! Like the cape is just chef kiss! I can't do it justice in my art but believe me it looks amazing! The constellation on it was a great idea and another point for the artist nailing patterns! I also love the little star pin in her hair, the star on the end of the hat, the star holding the cape together! Did I mention the shoes??? They look so gooood I love them from the bottom of my heart, simple but perfect, especially with the yellow spots, like I love them sm! And the little skirt-like ruffle on the shorts! Ahhh that's my favorite part! It's just a joy to draw and looks incredible nice! The ruffle like gloves as well!

Ohh my, this design is just such a fun design I can't conway trough the format of text and miss using of the punctuation marks!

Just check it out and admire it or scratch that, get out a piece of paper and draw her now! I dare you! You will love it! And the vibes, the magic, the rain in the background turning into a clear sky above the storm with stars fully visible and the lightning ball in her hand and just my goodness I love this so so much I can't describe.

This would be a great time bring up how much I like the artist's style and the shading on the skin is one of my favorite part (the other would be the amazing cellshading on clothes like how?!), the little redness on the knees and elbows really makes the character come to life in my opinion! All the better how they also could do the opposite with Cleo making her much less lively, perfectly fitting her being dead and all. They're really cool for that.

Overall I love Shubble's design and her design is my favorite to draw!

hi hi! eheh i also have a soft spot for my mer Y/N (meryn is my private name for them ashdjfjdj) happy to hear you're enjoying too☺️💗 they're so fun to draw, though my fnaf obsession overshadows that lol

i've actually reached the stage in my fic drafts where i need at least a semi-clear description of their guardian! though no one will get to read it for a while😅 i may draw them sometime. here's what i've got:

their guardian is humanoid, but we'd be able to clock them instantly as non-human. they have hair like us, but it's more akin to straggly spines and the part of the hair close to the body is 'alive' - as in it would hurt to cut, like when you trim your nails too short. the overall mass isn't large, but the individual strands are thick and slightly squidgy and can be styled. their brows and lashes are very sparse. they have hand and feet webbing, which Y/N has inherited. their skin has a significant grey hue and is a different texture to that of a human, something close to scaled. their eyes are yellow and they don't have nails. instead, the scaled skin hardens towards the tips of the fingers and toes. like Y/N, they go through a quarterly cycle of growing and shedding a second set of new teeth while keeping their adult teeth permanently. they don't have molars, most of their teeth are pointed or serrated. i picture them as having a wide mouth, white hair and an eye shape that resembles Y/N's, though their body is more angular.

there are other things that aren't rly appearance-based - they have a huge lung capacity, and babies can swim pretty much from birth (not Y/N though🥲.) but yeah, that's what i got so far! not everything here will make it in the story, but it's useful as a base to draw from when i need to describe something.
